The classical spin system consisting of three spins with Heisenberg interaction is an example of a completely integrable mechanical system. In this paper we explicitly calculate its time evolution and the corresponding action-angle variables. This calculation is facilitated by splitting the six degrees of freedom into three internal and three external variables, such that the internal variables evolve autonomously. Their oscillations can be explicitly calculated in terms of the Weierstrass elliptic function. We test our results by means of an example and comparison with direct numerical integration. A couple of special cases is analyzed where the general theory does not apply, including the aperiodic limit case for special initial conditions. The extension to systems with a time-depending magnetic field in a constant direction is straightforward.
This paper presents an explicit correspondence between two different types of integrable equations; the quantum Yang-Baxter equation in its star-triangle relation form, and the classical 3D-consistent quad equations in the Adler-Bobenko-Suris (ABS) classification. Each of the 3D-consistent ABS quad equations of $H$-type, are respectively derived from the quasi-classical expansion of a counterpart star-triangle relation. Through these derivations it is seen that the star-triangle relation provides a natural path integral quantization of an ABS equation. The interpretation of the different star-…
In this paper we give an overview of exactly solved edge-interaction models, where the spins are placed on sites of a planar lattice and interact through edges connecting the sites. We only consider the case of a single spin degree of freedom at each site of the lattice. The Yang-Baxter equation for such models takes a particular simple form called the star-triangle relation. Interestigly all known solutions of this relation can be obtained as particular cases of a single "master solution", which is expressed through the elliptic gamma function and have continuous spins taking values of the ci…
We consider the Heisenberg spin triangle with general coupling coefficients and general spin quantum number $s$. The corresponding classical system is completely integrable. In the quantum case the eigenvalue problem can be reduced to that of tridiagonal matrices in at most $2s+1$ dimensions. The corresponding energy spectrum exhibits what we will call spectral symmetries due to the underlying permutational symmetry of the considered class of Hamiltonians. As an application we explicitly calculate six classes of universal polynomials that occur in the high temperature expansion of spin triangl…
In this paper we discuss the integrable chiral Potts model, as it clearly relates to how we got befriended with Vaughan Jones, whose birthday we celebrated at the Qinhuangdao meeting. Remarkably we can also celebrate the birthday of the model, as it has been introduced about 30 years ago as the first solution of the star-triangle equations parametrized in terms of higher genus functions. After introducing the most general checkerboard Yang--Baxter equation, we specialize to the star-triangle equation, also discussing its relation with knot theory. Then we show how the integrable chiral Potts m…
We show that the equality of 2d $\mathcal{N}$=(2,2) supersymmetric indices in Seiberg-type duality leads to a new integrable Ising-type model. The emergence of the new model is the result of correspondence between the supersymmetric $SU(2)$ quiver gauge theories and the Yang-Baxter equation. Using this correspondence, we solve the star-triangle relation and obtain the two-dimensional exactly solvable spin model. The model corresponding to our solution possesses continuous spin variables on the circle and the Boltzmann weights are demonstrated in terms of Jacobi theta function. Using the soluti…
We prove that the cosine law for spherical triangles and spherical tetrahedra defines integrable systems, both in the sense of multidimensional consistency and in the sense of dynamical systems.
We show that the space of orthogonally separable coordinates on the sphere $S^3$ induces a natural family of integrable systems, which after symplectic reduction leads to a family of integrable systems on $S^2 \times S^2$. The generic member of the family corresponds to ellipsoidal coordinates. We use the theory of compatible Poisson structures to study the critical points and critical values of the momentum map. Interesting structure arises because the ellipsoidal coordinate system can degenerate in a variety of ways, and all possible orthogonally separable coordinate systems on $S^3$ (includ…
In a previous work we have introduced the concept of quasi-integrable quantum system. In the present one we determine sufficient conditions under which, given an integrable classical system, it is possible to construct a quasi-integrable quantum system by means of a quantization procedure based on the symmetrized product of operators. This procedure will be applied to concrete classes of integrable systems in two following papers.
We propose in this work a concept of integrability for quantum systems, which corresponds to the concept of noncommutative integrability for systems in classical mechanics. We determine a condition for quantum operators which can be a suitable replacement for the condition of functional independence for functions on the classical phase space. This condition is based on the properties of the main parts of the operators with respect to the momenta. We are led in this way to the definition of what we call a "quasi-integrable quantum system". This concept will be further developed in a series of f…
In this paper, we prove that the linearized system of elliptic triangle homographic solution of planar charged three-body problem can be transformed to that of the elliptic equilateral triangle solution of the planar classical three-body problem. Consequently, the results of Mart\'ınez, Samà and Simó ([15] in J. Diff. Equa.) of 2006 and results of Hu, Long and Sun ([6] in Arch. Ration. Mech.Anal.) of 2014 can be applied to these solutions of the charged three-body problem to get their linear stability.
We study the root of unity limit of the lens elliptic gamma function solution of the star-triangle relation, for an integrable model with continuous and discrete spin variables. This limit involves taking an elliptic nome to a primitive $rN$-th root of unity, where $r$ is an existing integer parameter of the lens elliptic gamma function, and $N$ is an additional integer parameter. This is a singular limit of the star-triangle relation, and at subleading order of an asymptotic expansion, another star-triangle relation is obtained for a model with discrete spin variables in $\mathbb{Z}_{rN}$. So…
In this article we consider two particular examples of general construction proposed in arXiv:2012.15529. We consider the integrable extensions of the classical elliptic Calogero-Moser model of N particles with spin and the integrable Euler-Arnold top related to the group SL(N,C). The extended systems has additional N-1 degrees of freedom and can be described in terms of the Darboux variables.
The following work is an exploration into certain topics in the broad world of integrable models, both classical and quantum, and consists of two main parts of roughly equal length. The first part, consisting of chapters 1-3, concerns itself mainly with correlations between results in classical hierarchies and quantum lattice models. The second part, consisting of chapters 4-6, deals almost entirely with deriving results concerned with quantum lattice models.
We construct integrable Hamiltonian systems on $G/K$, where $G$ is a quasitriangular Poisson Lie group and $K$ is a Lie subgroup arising as the fixed point set of a group automorphism $σ$ of $G$ satisfying the classical reflection equation. In the case that $G$ is factorizable, we show that the time evolution of these systems is described by a Lax equation, and present its solution in terms of a factorization problem in $G$. Our construction is closely related to the semiclassical limit of Sklyanin's integrable quantum spin chains with reflecting boundaries.
In this paper we give examples of applications of general methods of quantization by symmetrization of classical integrable systems, which have been illustrated in two previous works by the same authors. We consider two classes of systems in n spatial dimensions, which respectively describe a point particle in a central force field and a freely rotating rigid body. In the former case, the application of the general methods to an integrable classical system leads in an almost straightforward way to the quasi-integrability of the corresponding quantum system. In the latter case instead, a modifi…
We build a combinatorial invariant, called the spectral monodromy from the spectrum of a non-selfadjoint h -pseudodifferential operator with two degrees of freedom in the semi-classical limit. We treat small non-selfadjoint perturbation of selfadjoint h-pseudodifferential operators in two case: in the first, we assume that the classical flow of the unperturbed part is integrable; the second case, more interesting, when this flow is assumed to be quasi-integrable.
A four-wave mixing Hamiltonian system on the classical as well as on the quantum level is investigated. In the classical case, if one assumes the frequency resonance condition of the form $ω_0 -ω_1 +ω_2 -ω_3=0$, this Hamiltonian system is integrated in quadratures and the explicit formulas of solutions are presented. Under the same condition the spectral decomposition of quantum Hamiltonian is found and thus, the Heisenberg equation for this system is solved. Some applications of the obtained results in non-linear optics are disscused.
By applying methods already discussed in a previous series of papers by the same authors, we construct here classes of integrable quantum systems which correspond to n fully resonant oscillators with nonlinear couplings. The same methods are also applied to a series of nontrivial integral sets of functions, which can be constructed when additional symmetries are present due to the equality of some of the frequencies. Besides, for n=3 and resonance 1:1:2, an exceptional integrable system is obtained, in which integrability is not explicitly connected with this type of symmetry. In this exceptio…
We study the three-dimensional lens partition function for $\mathcal N=2$ supersymmetric gauge dual theories on $S^3/\mathbb{Z}_r$ by using the gauge/YBE correspondence. This correspondence relates supersymmetric gauge theories to exactly solvable models of statistical mechanics. The equality of partition functions for the three-dimensional supersymmetric dual theories can be written as an integral identity for hyperbolic hypergeometric functions. We obtain such an integral identity which can be written as the star-triangle relation for Ising type integrable models and as the integral pentagon…
We establish a correspondence between an infinite set of special solutions of the (classical) modified sinh-Gordon equation and a set of stationary states in the finite-volume Hilbert space of the integrable 2D QFT invented by V.A. Fateev. The modified sinh-Gordon equation arise in this case as a zero-curvature condition for a class of multivalued connections of the punctured Riemann sphere, similarly to Hitchin's self-duality equations. The proposed correspondence between the classical and quantum integrable systems provides a powerful tool for deriving functional and integral equations which…
We present certain classical continuum long wave-length limits of prototype integrable quantum spin chains, and define the corresponding construction of classical continuum Lax operators. We also provide two specific examples, i.e. the isotropic and anisotropic Heisenberg models.
We give a short summary of our recent works on the classical integrable structure of two-dimensional non-linear sigma models defined on squashed three-dimensional spheres. There are two descriptions to describe the classical dynamics, 1) the rational description and 2) the trigonometric description. It is possible to construct two different types of Lax pairs depending on the descriptions, and the classical integrability is shown by computing classical r/s-matrices satisfying the extended Yang-Baxter equation in both descriptions. In the former the system is described as an integrable system o…
Basic notions regarding classical integrable systems are reviewed. An algebraic description of the classical integrable models together with the zero curvature condition description is presented. The classical r-matrix approach for discrete and continuum classical integrable models is introduced. Using this framework the associated classical integrals of motion and the corresponding Lax pair are extracted based on algebraic considerations. Our attention is restricted to classical discrete and continuum integrable systems with periodic boundary conditions. Typical examples of discrete (Toda cha…
Many quantum integrable systems are obtained using an accelerator physics technique known as Ermakov (or normalized variables) transformation. This technique was used to create classical nonlinear integrable lattices for accelerators and nonlinear integrable plasma traps. Now, all classical results are carried over to a nonrelativistic quantum case.
We study amplitudes of five-wave interactions for evolution Hamiltonian equations differ from the KdV equation by the form of dispersion law. We find that five-wave amplitude is canceled for all three known equations (KdV, Benjamin-Ono and equation of intermediate waves) and for two new equations which are natural generalizations of mentioned above.
This note is a review of the recently revealed intriguing connection between integrable quantum spin chains and integrable many-body systems of classical mechanics. The essence of this connection lies in the fact that the spectral problem for quantum Hamiltonians of the former models is closely related to a sort of inverse spectral problem for Lax matrices of the latter ones. For simplicity, we focus on the most transparent and familiar case of spin chains on N sites constructed by means of the GL(2)-invariant R-matrix. They are related to the classical Ruijsenaars-Schneider system of N partic…
We examine certain classical continuum long wave-length limits of prototype integrable quantum spin chains. We define the corresponding construction of classical continuum Lax operators. Our discussion starts with the XXX chain, the anisotropic Heisenberg model and their generalizations and extends to the generic isotropic and anisotropic gl_n magnets. Certain classical and quantum integrable models emerging from special "dualities" of quantum spin chains, parametrized by c-number matrices, are also presented.
This thesis studies the role of free fermions in certain classical and quantum integrable models. The classical models studied are the KP and BKP hierarchies of partial differential equations. We review the presence of free fermions in the theory of these hierarchies, a topic which was established in the work of the Kyoto school. The quantum models studied are descendents and relatives of the XYZ model, or its lattice equivalent, the eight-vertex model. We give a number of new results in the context of these models, revealing the presence of fermions in typical quantities such as Bethe eigenve…
We rigorously establish the asymptotic equivalence between the height function of interacting dimers on the square lattice and the massless Gaussian free field. Our theorem explains the microscopic origin of the sine-Gordon field theory description away from the free fermion point, which has previously been elusive. We use a novel technique, based on the combination of discrete holomorphicity with exact, constructive, renormalization group methods, which has the potential of being applicable to a variety of other non-integrable models at or close to criticality.
We prove that any classical affine W-algebra W(g,f), where g is a classical Lie algebra and f is an arbitrary nilpotent element of g, carries an integrable Hamiltonian hierarchy of Lax type equations. This is based on the theories of generalized Adler type operators and of generalized quasideterminants, which we develop in the paper. Moreover, we show that under certain conditions, the product of two generalized Adler type operators is a Lax type operator. We use this fact to construct a large number of integrable Hamiltonian systems, recovering, as a special case, all KdV type hierarchies con…
We study the equilibration properties of classical integrable field theories at a finite energy density, with a time evolution that starts from initial conditions far from equilibrium. These classical field theories may be regarded as quantum field theories in the regime of high occupation numbers. This observation permits to recover the classical quantities from the quantum ones by taking a proper $\hbar \rightarrow 0$ limit. In particular, the time averages of the classical theories can be expressed in terms of a suitable version of the LeClair-Mussardo formula relative to the Generalized Gi…
For integrable inhomogeneous supersymmetric spin chains (generalized graded magnets) constructed employing Y(gl(N|M))-invariant R-matrices in finite-dimensional representations we introduce the master T-operator which is a sort of generating function for the family of commuting quantum transfer matrices. Any eigenvalue of the master T-operator is the tau-function of the classical mKP hierarchy. It is a polynomial in the spectral parameter which is identified with the 0-th time of the hierarchy. This implies a remarkable relation between the quantum supersymmetric spin chains and classical many…
This is an introductory survey written in Japanese on classical integrability from the viewpoint of symmetry reduction of 4-dimensional anti-self-dual Yang-Mills equations. Twistor construction methods are discussed in detail in 4-dimension. Exact local solutions are, in this article, presented in terms of quasideterminants in a compact form. Some integrable aspects in lower-dimension are clarified in the context of the reduction. Noncommutative extension and higher-dimensional extension are briefly discussed.
The paper deals with the semi-classical behaviour of quantum dynamics for a semi-classical completely integrable system with two degrees of freedom near Liouville regular torus. The phenomomenon of wave packet revivals is demonstrated in this article. The framework of this paper is semi-classical analysis (limit :). For the proofs we use standard tools of real analysis, Fourier analysis and basic analytic number theory.
We study a family of classical solutions of modified sinh-Gordon equation, $\partial_z\partial_{\bar z} η-\re^{2η}+p(z)\,p({\bar z})\ \re^{-2η}=0$ with $p(z)=z^{2α}-s^{2α}$. We show that certain connection coefficients for solutions of the associated linear problem coincide with the $Q$-function of the quantum sine-Gordon $(α>0)$ or sinh-Gordon $(α<-1)$ models.
We consider the algebraic setting of classical defects in discrete and continuous integrable theories. We derive the "equations of motion" on the defect point via the space-like and time-like description. We then exploit the structural similarity of these equations with the discrete and continuous Backlund transformations. And although these equations are similar they are not exactly the same to the Backlund transformations. We also consider specific examples of integrable models to demonstrate our construction, i.e. the Toda chain and the sine-Gordon model. The equations of the time (space) e…
We take a soliton solution of a classical non-linear integrable equation and quench (suddenly change) its non-linearity parameter. For that we multiply the amplitude or the width of a soliton by a numerical factor $η$ and take the obtained profile as a new initial condition. We find the values of $η$ at which the post-quench solution consists of only a finite number of solitons. The parameters of these solitons are found explicitly. Our approach is based on solving the direct scattering problem analytically. We demonstrate how it works for Kortewig-de-Vries, sine-Gordon and non-linear Schrödin…
A tensorial approach to the theory of classical Hamiltonian integrable systems is proposed, based on the geometry of Haantjes tensors. We introduce the class of symplectic-Haantjes manifolds (or $ω\mathscr{H}$ manifolds), as a natural setting where the notion of integrability can be formulated. We prove that the existence of suitable Haantjes algebras of (1,1) tensor fields with vanishing Haantjes torsion is a necessary and sufficient condition for a Hamiltonian system to be integrable in the Liouville-Arnold sense. We also show that new integrable models arise from the Haantjes geometry. Fina…
In this paper we study factorization formulae for the Lax matrices of the classical Ruijsenaars-Schneider and Calogero-Moser models. We review the already known results and discuss their possible origins. The first origin comes from the IRF-Vertex relations and the properties of the intertwining matrices. The second origin is based on the Schlesinger transformations generated by modifications of underlying vector bundles. We show that both approaches provide explicit formulae for $M$-matrices of the integrable systems in terms of the intertwining matrices (and/or modification matrices). In the…
We obtain a new solution of the star-triangle relation with positive Boltzmann weights which contains as special cases all continuous and discrete spin solutions of this relation, that were previously known. This new master solution defines an exactly solvable 2D lattice model of statistical mechanics, which involves continuous spin variables, living on a circle, and contains two temperature-like parameters. If one of the these parameters approaches a root of unity (corresponds to zero temperature), the spin variables freezes into discrete positions, equidistantly spaced on the circle. An abso…
