This paper presents an explicit correspondence between two different types of integrable equations; the quantum Yang-Baxter equation in its star-triangle relation form, and the classical 3D-consistent quad equations in the Adler-Bobenko-Suris (ABS) classification. Each of the 3D-consistent ABS quad equations of $H$-type, are respectively derived from the quasi-classical expansion of a counterpart star-triangle relation. Through these derivations it is seen that the star-triangle relation provides a natural path integral quantization of an ABS equation. The interpretation of the different star-triangle relations is also given in terms of (hyperbolic/rational/classical) hypergeometric integrals, revealing the hypergeometric structure that links the two different types of integrable systems. Many new limiting relations that exist between the star-triangle relations/hypergeometric integrals are proven for each case.
Starting from known solutions of the functional Yang-Baxter equations, we exhibit Miura type of transformations leading to various known integrable quad equations. We then construct, from the same list of Yang-Baxter maps, a series of non-autonomous solvable recurrences of order two.
Consider the statement "Every Yang-Baxter integrable system is defined to be exactly-solvable". To formalise this statement, definitions and axioms are introduced. Then, using a specific Yang-Baxter integrable bosonic system, it is shown that a paradox emerges. A generalisation for completely integrable bosonic systems is also developed.
We explore two distinct methods to introduce integrable defects in a family of integrable sigma-models known as Yang-Baxter models. The first method invokes a modified monodromy matrix encoding an integrable defect separating two integrable systems. As an example we construct integrable defects in the ultralocal version of the $S^2$ Yang-Baxter model or 2d Fateev sausage model. The second method is based on the so-called "frozen" Bäcklund transformations. Lifting the construction to the Drinfel'd double, we show how defect matrices can be constructed for inhomogeneous Yang-Baxter models. We pr…
A variety of Yang-Baxter maps are obtained from integrable multi-field equations on quad-graphs. A systematic framework for investigating this connection relies on the symmetry groups of the equations. The method is applied to lattice equations introduced by Adler and Yamilov and which are related to the nonlinear superposition formulae for the Bäcklund transformations of the nonlinear Schrödinger system and specific ferromagnetic models.
Yang-Baxter (YB) map systems (or set-theoretic analoga of entwining YB structures) are presented. They admit zero curvature representations with spectral parameter depended Lax triples L1, L2, L3 derived from symplectic leaves of 2 x 2 binomial matrices equipped with the Sklyanin bracket. A unique factorization condition of the Lax triple implies a 3-dimensional compatibility property of these maps. In case L1 = L2 = L3 this property yields the se--theoretic quantum Yang-Baxter equation, i.e. the YB map property. By considering periodic 'staircase' initial value problems on quadrilateral latti…
Based on properties of the universal R-matrix, we derive universal Baxter TQ-relations for quantum integrable systems with (diagonal) open boundaries associated with $U_{q}(\widehat{sl_{2}})$. The Baxter TQ-relations for the open XXZ-spin chain are images of these universal Baxter TQ-relations.
An operator deformed quantum algebra is discovered exploiting the quantum Yang-Baxter equation with trigonometric R-matrix. This novel Hopf algebra along with its $q \to 1$ limit appear to be the most general Yang-Baxter algebra underlying quantum integrable systems. Three different directions of application of this algebra in integrable systems depending on different sets of values of deforming operators are identified. Fixed values on the whole lattice yield subalgebras linked to standard quantum integrable models, while the associated Lax operators generate and classify them in an unified w…
In this thesis we study the Darboux transformations related to particular Lax operators of NLS type which are invariant under the action of the so-called reduction group. Specifically, we study the cases of: 1) the nonlinear Schrödinger equation (with no reduction), 2) the derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equation, where the corresponding Lax operator is invariant under the action of the $\mathbb{Z}_2$-reduction group and 3) a deformation of the derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equation, associated to a Lax operator invariant under the action of the dihedral reduction group. These reduction gr…
Applying braided Yang-Baxter equation quantum integrable and Bethe ansatz solvable 1D anyonic lattice and field models are constructed. Along with known models we discover novel lattice anyonic and $q$-anyonic models as well as nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLS) and the derivative NLS quantum field models involving anyonic operators, $N$-particle sectors of which yield the well known anyon gases, interacting through $δ$ and derivative $δ$-function potentials.
Non-polynomial Baxterized solutions of reflection equations associated with affine Hecke and affine Birman-Murakami-Wenzl algebras are found. Relations to integrable spin chain models with nontrivial boundary conditions are discussed.
A common approach to the quantization of integrable models starts with the formal substitution of the Yang-Baxter Poisson algebra with its quantum version. However it is difficult to discern the presence of such an algebra for the so-called non-ultralocal models. The latter includes the class of non-linear sigma models which are most interesting from the point of view of applications. In this work, we investigate the emergence of the Yang-Baxter Poisson algebra in a non-ultralocal system which is related to integrable deformations of the Principal Chiral Field.

We propose a construction of 1+1 integrable Heisenberg-Landau-Lifshitz type equations in the ${\rm gl}_N$ case. The dynamical variables are matrix elements of $N\times N$ matrix $S$ with the property $S^2={\rm const}\cdot S$. The Lax pair with spectral parameter is constructed by means of a quantum $R$-matrix satisfying the associative Yang-Baxter equation. Equations of motion for ${\rm gl}_N$ Landau-Lifshitz model are derived from the Zakharov-Shabat equations. The model is simplified when ${\rm rank}(S)=1$. In this case the Hamiltonian description is suggested. The described family of models…
We consider a special class of quantum non-dynamical $R$-matrices in the fundamental representation of ${\rm GL}_N$ with spectral parameter given by trigonometric solutions of the associative Yang-Baxter equation. In the simplest case $N=2$ these are the well-known 6-vertex $R$-matrix and its 7-vertex deformation. The $R$-matrices are used for construction of the classical relativistic integrable tops of the Euler-Arnold type. Namely, we describe the Lax pairs with spectral parameter, the inertia tensors and the Poisson structures. The latter are given by the linear Poisson-Lie brackets for th…
Integrable sigma model with generalized $\mathcal{F}$ structure, Yang-Baxter sigma model with generalized complex structure and multi-Yang-Baxter sigma model
A discrete nonlinear system is analysed in case of open chain boundary conditions at the ends. It is shown that the integrability of the system remains intact, by obtaining a modified set of Lax equations which automatically take care of the boundary conditions. The same Lax pair also conforms to the conditions stipulated by Sklyanin [5]. The quantum inverse problem is set up and the diagonalisation is carried out by the method of sparation of variables. Bäcklund transformations are then derived under the modified boundary conditions using the classical r-matrix . Finally by quantising the Bäc…
We prove that one-dimensional elastic relativistic collisions satisfy the set-theoretical Yang-Baxter equation. The corresponding collision maps are symplectic and admit a Lax representation. Furthermore, they can be considered as reductions of a higher dimensional integrable Yang-Baxter map on an invariant manifold. In this framework, we study the integrability of transfer maps that represent particular periodic sequences of collisions.
We continue our systematic construction of Baxter Q-operators for spin chains, which is based on certain degenerate solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation. Here we generalize our approach from the fundamental representation of gl(n) to generic finite-dimensional representations in quantum space. The results equally apply to non-compact representations of highest or lowest weight type. We furthermore fill an apparent gap in the literature, and provide the nearest-neighbor Hamiltonians of the spin chains in question for all cases where the gl(n) representations are described by rectangular Young …
Based on the formulation of Yang-Baxter sigma models developed by Klimcik and Delduc-Magro-Vicedo, we explain that various deformations of type IIB superstring on AdS$_5\times$S$^5$ can be characterized by classical $r$-matrices satisfying the classical Yang-Baxter equation (CYBE). The relation may be referred to as `the gravity/CYBE correspondence.' We present non-trivial examples of the correspondence including Lunin-Maldacena backgrounds for $β$-deformations of the ${\cal N} = 4$ super Yang-Mills theory and the gravity duals for non-commutative gauge theories. We also discuss non-integrable…
We establish that the quadrirational Yang-Baxter maps, considered on their symmetry-complete lattice, give an un-normalized form of the Painleve systems associated with affine-E8 symmetry. This is a unified representation bringing KdV-type and Painleve-type systems together outside of the usual paradigm of reductions. Our approach exploits the geometric characterisation of the Painleve equations and the formulation of both kinds of systems in terms of birational groups.
For every quantized Lie algebra there exists a map from the tensor square of the algebra to itself, which by construction satisfies the set-theoretic Yang-Baxter equation. This map allows one to define an integrable discrete quantum evolution system on quadrilateral lattices, where local degrees of freedom (dynamical variables) take values in a tensor power of the quantized Lie algebra. The corresponding equations of motion admit the zero curvature representation. The commuting Integrals of Motion are defined in the standard way via the Quantum Inverse Problem Method, utilizing Baxter's famous…
We solve the longstanding problem to define a functional characterization of the spectrum of the transfer matrix associated to the most general spin-1/2 representations of the 6-vertex reflection algebra for general inhomogeneous chains. The corresponding homogeneous limit reproduces the spectrum of the Hamiltonian of the spin-1/2 open XXZ and XXX quantum chains with the most general integrable boundaries. The spectrum is characterized by a second order finite difference functional equation of Baxter type with an inhomogeneous term which vanishes only for some special but yet interesting non-d…
We study the diagonalization problem of certain discrete quantum integrable models by the method of Baxter's T-Q relation from the algebraic geometry aspect. Among those the Hofstadter type model (with the rational magnetic flux), discrete quantum pendulum and discrete sine-Gordon model are our main concern in this report. By the quantum inverse scattering method, the Baxter's T-Q relation is formulated on the associated spectral curve, a high genus Riemann surface in general, arisen from the study of the spectrum problem of the system. In the case of degenerated spectral curve where the spect…
We present Yang-Baxter maps associated to elliptic curves. They are related to discrete versions of the Krichever-Novikov and the Landau-Lifshits equations. A lifting of scalar integrable quad-graph equations to two-field equations is also shown.
The Yang-Baxter equation has long been recognised as the masterkey to integrability, providing the basis for exactly solved models which capture the fundamental physics of a number of realistic classical and quantum systems. In this article we provide an introductory overview of the impact of Yang-Baxter integrable models on experiments in condensed matter physics and ultracold atoms. A number of prominent examples are mentioned, including the hard-hexagon model, the Heisenberg spin chain, the transverse quantum Ising chain, a spin ladder model, the Lieb-Liniger Bose gas, the Gaudin-Yang Fermi…
We construct birational maps that satisfy the parametric set-theoretical Yang-Baxter equation and its entwining generalisation. For this purpose, we employ Darboux transformations related to integrable Nonlinear Schrödinger type equations and study the refactorisation problems of the product of their associated Darboux matrices. Additionally, we study various algebraic properties of the derived maps, such as invariants and associated symplectic or Poisson structures, and we prove their complete integrability in the Liouville sense.
This article, based on the author's PhD thesis, reviews recent advancements in the field of quantum integrability, in particular the separation of variables (SoV) program for high-rank integrable spin chains and the boost mechanism for solving the Yang-Baxter equation. We begin with a general overview of quantum integrable systems with special emphasis on their description in terms of quantum algebras. We then provide a detailed account of the Yangian of $\mathfrak{gl}(n)$ in particular the Bethe algebra, fusion, and T- and Q-systems. We then introduce the notion of separation of variables in …
A transformation is obtained which completes the unification of quadrirational Yang-Baxter maps and known integrable multi-quadratic quad equations. By combining theory from these two classes of quad-graph models we find an extension of the known integrability feature, and show how this leads subsequently to a natural extension of the associated lattice geometry. The extended lattice is encoded in a birational representation of a particular sequence of Coxeter groups. In this setting the usual quad-graph is associated with a subgroup of type BC_n, and is part of a larger and more symmetric amb…
We introduce a class of new integrable lattice models labeled by a pair of positive integers N and r. The integrable model is obtained from the Gauge/YBE correspondence, which states the equivalence of the 4d N=1 S^1 \times S^3/Z_r index of a large class of SU(N) quiver gauge theories with the partition function of 2d classical integrable spin models. The integrability of the model (star-star relation) is equivalent with the invariance of the index under the Seiberg duality. Our solution to the Yang-Baxter equation is one of the most general known in the literature, and reproduces a number of …
Generalized Baxter's relations on the transfer-matrices (also known as Baxter's TQ relations) are constructed and proved for an arbitrary untwisted quantum affine algebra. Moreover, we interpret them as relations in the Grothendieck ring of the category O introduced by Jimbo and the second author in arXiv:1104.1891 involving infinite-dimensional representations constructed in arXiv:1104.1891, which we call here "prefundamental". We define the transfer-matrices associated to the prefundamental representations and prove that their eigenvalues on any finite-dimensional representation are polynomi…
We obtain the Baxter Q-operators in the $U_q(\hat{sl}_2)$ invariant integrable models as a special limits of the quantum transfer matrices corresponding to different spins in the auxiliary space both from the functional relations and from the explicit calculations. We derive the Baxter equation from the well known fusion relations for the transfer matrices. Our method is valid for an arbitrary integrable model corresponding to the quantum group $U_q(\hat{sl}_2)$ for example for the XXZ- spin chain.
Two-dimensional $σ$-models with $\mathbb{Z}_N$-symmetric homogeneous target spaces have been shown to be classically integrable when introducing WZ-terms in a particular way. This article continues the search for new models of this type now allowing some kinetic terms to be absent, analogously to the Green-Schwarz superstring $σ$-model on $\mathbb{Z}_4$-symmetric homogeneous spaces. A list of such integrable $\mathbb{Z}_N$-symmetric (super)coset $σ$-models for $N \leq 6$ and their Lax pairs is presented. For arbitrary $N$, a big class of integrable models is constructed that includes both the …
In this paper the proofs are given of important properties of deformed Abelian differentials introduced earlier in connection with quantum integrable systems. The starting point of the construction is Baxter equation. In particular, we prove Riemann bilinear relation. Duality plays important role in our consideration. Classical limit is considered in details.
Birational Yang-Baxter maps (`set-theoretical solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation') are considered. A birational map $(x,y)\mapsto(u,v)$ is called quadrirational, if its graph is also a graph of a birational map $(x,v)\mapsto(u,y)$. We obtain a classification of quadrirational maps on $\CP^1\times\CP^1$, and show that all of them satisfy the Yang-Baxter equation. These maps possess a nice geometric interpretation in terms of linear pencil of conics, the Yang-Baxter property being interpreted as a new incidence theorem of the projective geometry of conics.
We investigate the Yang-Baxter algebra for $\mathrm{U}(1)$ invariant three-state vertex models whose Boltzmann weights configurations break explicitly the parity-time reversal symmetry. We uncover two families of regular Lax operators with nineteen non-null weights which ultimately sit on algebraic plane curves with genus five. We argue that these curves admit degree two morphisms onto elliptic curves and thus they are bielliptic. The associated $\mathrm{R}$-matrices are non-additive in the spectral parameters and it has been checked that they satisfy the Yang-Baxter equation. The respective i…
We recently introduced a class of ${\mathbb{Z}}_N$ graded discrete Lax pairs and studied the associated discrete integrable systems (lattice equations). In this paper we introduce the corresponding Yang-Baxter maps. Many well known examples belong to this scheme for $N=2$, so, for $N\geq 3$, our systems may be regarded as generalisations of these. In particular, for each $N$ we introduce a generalisation of the map $H_{III}^B$ in the classification of scalar Yang-Baxter maps. For $N=3$ this is equivalent to the Yang-Baxter map associated with the discrete modified Boussinesq equation. For $N\g…
The Lax-Sato approach to the hierarchies of Manakov-Santini type is formalized in order to extend it to a more general class of integrable systems. For this purpose some linear operators are introduced, which must satisfy some integrability conditions, one of them is the Rota-Baxter identity. The theory is illustrated by means of the algebra of Laurent series, the related hierarchies are classified and examples, also new, of Manakov-Santini type systems are constructed, including those that are related to the dispersionless modified Kadomtsev-Petviashvili equation and so called dispersionless …
We review and pursue further the study of constrained realisations of affine Gaudin models, which form a large class of two-dimensional integrable field theories with gauge symmetries. In particular, we develop a systematic gauging procedure which allows to reformulate the non-constrained realisations of affine Gaudin models considered recently in [JHEP 06 (2019) 017] as equivalent models with a gauge symmetry. This reformulation is then used to construct integrable deformations of these models breaking their diagonal symmetry. In a second time, we apply these general methods to the integrable…
We explore the reflection-transmission quantum Yang-Baxter equations, arising in factorized scattering theory of integrable models with impurities. The physical origin of these equations is clarified and three general families of solutions are described in detail. Explicit representatives of each family are also displayed. These results allow to establish a direct relationship with the different previous works on the subject and make evident the advantages of the reflection-transmission algebra as an universal approach to integrable systems with impurities.
A construction of multidimensional parametric Yang-Baxter maps is presented. The corresponding Lax matrices are the symplectic leaves of first degree matrix polynomials equipped with the Sklyanin bracket. These maps are symplectic with respect to the reduced symplectic structure on these leaves and provide examples of integrable mappings. An interesting family of quadrirational symplectic YB maps on $\mathbb{C}^4 \times \mathbb{C}^4$ with $3\times 3$ Lax matrices is also presented.
We use the classification of the quadrirational maps given by Adler, Bobenko and Suris to describe when such maps satisfy the Yang-Baxter relation. We show that the corresponding maps can be characterized by certain singularity invariance condition. This leads to some new families of Yang-Baxter maps corresponding to the geometric symmetries of pencils of quadrics.
Tensor solutions ($r$-matrices) of the classical Yang-Baxter equation (CYBE) in a Lie algebra, obtained as the classical limit of the $R$-matrix solution of the quantum Yang-Baxter equation (QYBE), is an important structure appearing in different areas such as integrable systems, symplectic geometry, quantum groups and quantum field theory. Further study of CYBE led to its interpretation as certain operators, giving rise to the concept of O-operators. In [3], the O-operators were in turn interpreted as tensor solutions of CYBE by enlarging the Lie algebra. The purpose of this paper is to exten…
We consider a family of deformations of T^{1,1} in the Yang-Baxter sigma model approach. We first discuss a supercoset description of T^{1,1}, which makes manifest the full symmetry of the space and leads to the standard Sasaki-Einstein metric. Next, we consider three-parameter deformations of T^{1,1} by using classical r-matrices satisfying the classical Yang-Baxter equation (CYBE). The resulting metric and NS-NS two-form agree exactly with the ones obtained via TsT transformations, and contain the Lunin-Maldacena background as a special case. It is worth noting that for AdS_5 x T^{1,1}, clas…
We construct two-parameter families of integrable $λ$-deformations of two-dimensional field theories. These interpolate between a CFT (a WZW/gauged WZW model) and the non-Abelian T-dual of a principal chiral model on a group/symmetric coset space. In examples based on the $SU(2)$ WZW model and the $SU(2)/U(1)$ exact coset CFT, we show that these deformations are related to bi-Yang-Baxter generalisations of $η$-deformations via Poisson-Lie T-duality and analytic continuation. We illustrate the quantum behaviour of our models under RG flow. As a byproduct we demonstrate that the bi-Yang-Baxter $…
We obtain a new solution of the star-triangle relation with positive Boltzmann weights which contains as special cases all continuous and discrete spin solutions of this relation, that were previously known. This new master solution defines an exactly solvable 2D lattice model of statistical mechanics, which involves continuous spin variables, living on a circle, and contains two temperature-like parameters. If one of the these parameters approaches a root of unity (corresponds to zero temperature), the spin variables freezes into discrete positions, equidistantly spaced on the circle. An abso…
Starting from multidimensional consistency of non-commutative lattice modified Gel'fand-Dikii systems we present the corresponding solutions of the functional (set-theoretic) Yang-Baxter equation, which are non-commutative versions of the maps arising from geometric crystals. Our approach works under additional condition of centrality of certain products of non-commuting variables. Then we apply such a restriction on the level of the Gel'fand-Dikii systems what allows to obtain non-autonomous (but with central non-autonomous factors) versions of the equations. In particular we recover known no…
