A Kaehler-Nijenhuis manifold is a Kaehler manifold M, with metric g, complex structure J and Kaehler form F, endowed with a Nijenhuis tensor field A that is compatible with the Poisson stucture defined by F in the sense of the theory of Poisson-Nijenhuis structures. If this happens, and if either AJ=JA or AJ=-JA, M is foliated by im A into non degenerate Kaehler-Nijenhuis submanifolds. If A is a non degenerate (1,1)-tensor field on M, (M,g,J,A) is a Kaehler-Nijenhuis manifold iff one of the following two properties holds: 1) A is associated with a symplectic structure of M that defines a Poisson structure compatible with the Poisson structure defined by F; 2) A and its inverse are associated with closed 2-forms. On a Kaehler-Nijenhuis manifold, if A is non degenerate and AJ=-JA, A must be a parallel tensor field.
We study almost Hermitian structures admitting a Hermitian connexion with totally skew-symmetric torsion or equivalently, those almost Hermitian structures with totally skew-symmetric Nijenhuis tensor. We investigate up to what extent the Nijenhuis tensor fails to be parallel with respect to the characteristic connexion. This is naturally described by means of an extension of the notion of Killing form to almost Hermitian geometry. In this context, we also make an essentially self-contained survey of nearly-Kaehler geometry, but from the perspective of non-integrable holonomy systems.
Let $(M,I)$ be an almost complex 6-manifold. The obstruction to integrability of almost complex structure (so-called Nijenhuis tensor) maps a 3-dimensional bundle to a 3-dimensional one. We say that Nijenhuis tensor is non-degenerate if it is an isomorphism. An almost complex manifold is called nearly Kaehler if it admits a Hermitian form $ω$ such that $\nabla(ω)$ is totally antisymmetric, $\nabla$ being the Levi-Civita connection. We show that a nearly Kaehler metric on a given almost complex 6-manifold with non-degenerate Nijenhuis tensor is unique (up to a constant). We interpret the nearly…
We extend the Falceto-Zambon version of Marsden-Ratiu Poisson reduction to Poisson quasi-Nijenhuis structures with background on manifolds. We define gauge transformations of Poisson quasi-Nijenhuis structures with background, study some of their properties and show that they are compatible with reduction procedure. We use gauge transformations to construct Poisson quasi-Nijenhuis structures with background.
We introduce the notion of Poisson quasi-Nijenhuis manifolds generalizing the Poisson-Nijenhuis manifolds of Magri-Morosi. We also investigate the integration problem of Poisson quasi-Nijenhuis manifolds. In particular, we prove that, under some topological assumption, Poisson (quasi)-Nijenhuis manifolds are in one-one correspondence with symplectic (quasi)-Nijenhuis groupoids. As an application, we study generalized complex structures in terms of Poisson quasi-Nijenhuis manifolds. We prove that a generalized complex manifold corresponds to a special class of Poisson quasi-Nijenhuis structures…
We introduce the notion of pseudo-Poisson Nijenhuis manifolds. These manifolds are generalizations of Poisson Nijenhuis manifolds by Magri and Morosi \cite{MM}. We show that any pseudo-Poisson Nijenhuis manifold has an associated quasi-Lie bialgebroid as in the case of Poisson quasi-Nijenhuis manifolds by Sti$\acute{\mathrm{e}}$non and Xu \cite{SX}. Hence, since a quasi-Lie bialgebroid has an associated Courant algebroid, we have new materials to construct Courant algebroids. In the "nondegenerate" case, we show that the conditions of pseudo-Poisson Nijenhuis structures can be reduced. Therefo…
We generalize Poisson-Nijenhuis structures. We prove that on a manifold endowed with a Nijenhuis tensor and a Jacobi structure which are compatible, there is a hierarchy of pairwise compatible Jacobi structures. Furthermore, we study the homogeneous Poisson-Nijenhuis structures and their relations with Jacobi structures.
We give several explicit examples of compact manifolds with a $1$-parameter family of almost complex structures having arbitrarily small Nijenhuis tensor in the $C^0$-norm. The $4$-dimensional examples possess no complex structure, whereas the $6$-dimensional example does not possesses a left invariant complex structure, and whether it possesses a complex structure appears to be unknown.
We consider the problem of the symplectic realization of a Poisson-Nijenhuis manifold. By applying a new technique developed by M. Crainic and I. Marcut for the study of the above problem in the case of a Poisson manifold, we establish the existence, under a condition, of a nondegenerate Poisson-Nijenhuis structure on an open neighborhood of the zero-section of the cotangent bundle of the manifold, which symplectizes the initial structure. Additionally, we present some examples.
We prove that on any symplectic manifold whose symplectic form represents a rational cohomology class there exists a sequence of compatible almost complex structures whose Nijenhuis energy (the $L^2$-norm of the Nijenhuis tensor) tends to zero. The sequence is obtained by stretching the neck around a Donaldson hypersurface.
In this article, we summarize our recent results on the study of manifolds with special holonomy via the Frölicher-Nijenhuis bracket. This bracket enables us to define the Frölicher-Nijenhuis cohomologies which are analogues of the $d^c$ and the Dolbeault cohomologies in Kähler geometry, and assigns an $L_\infty$-algebra to each associative submanifold. We provide several concrete computations of the Frölicher-Nijenhuis cohomology.
Let M be a Kaehler manifold with a free, holomorphic and Hamiltonian action of the standard n-torus T. We give a simple, explicit and canonical formula for the Kaehler potential on the Kaehler reduction of M. As a consequence we can derive improvements of several classical results known for more general Hamiltonian reductions. Among these are a forms-level proof of the Duistermaat-Heckman theorem; an elementary proof of Atiyah's proof of the convexity of the moment image of a complexified T-orbit; another formula due to Biquard-Gauduchon for the Kaehler potential; and a formula in terms of mom…

An associated Nijenhuis tensor of endomorphisms in the tangent bundle is introduced. Special attention is paid to such tensors for an almost hypercomplex structure and the metric of Hermitian-Norden type. There are studied relations between the six associated Nijenhuis tensors as well as their vanishing. It is given a geometric interpretation of the vanishing of these tensors as a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of a unique connection with totally skew-symmetric torsion tensor. Similar idea is used in the paper of T. Friedrich and S. Ivanov in Asian J. Math. (2002) for som…
In this paper we show that a parallel differential form $Ψ$ of even degree on a Riemannian manifold allows to define a natural differential both on $Ω^\ast(M)$ and $Ω^\ast(M, TM)$, defined via the Frölicher-Nijenhuis bracket. For instance, on a Kähler manifold, these operators are the complex differential and the Dolbeault differential, respectively. We investigate this construction when taking the differential w.r.t. the canonical parallel $4$-form on a $G_2$- and ${\rm Spin}(7)$-manifold, respectively. We calculate the cohomology groups of $Ω^\ast(M)$ and give a partial description of the co…
Using as an underlying manifold an alpha-Sasakian manifold we introduce warped product Kaehler manifolds. We prove that if the underlying manifold is an alpha-Sasakian space form, then the corresponding Kaehler manifold is of quasi-constant holomorphic sectional curvatures with special distribution. Conversely, we prove that any Kaehler manifold of quasi-constant holomorphic sectional curvatures with special distribution locally has the structure of a warped product Kaehler manifold whose base is an alpha-Sasakian space form. Considering the scalar distribution generated by the scalar curvatur…
We discuss the construction of toric Kaehler metrics on symplectic 2n-manifolds with a hamiltonian n-torus action and present a simple derivation of the Guillemin formula for a distinguished Kaehler metric on any such manifold. The results also apply to orbifolds.
We show that the Weyl structure of an almost-Hermitian Weyl manifold of dimension at least 6 is trivial if the associated curvature operator satisfies the Kaehler identity. Similarly if the curvature of an almost para-Hermitian Weyl manifold of dimension at least 6 satisfies the para-Kaehler identity, then the Weyl structure is trivial as well.
We extend to the context of Courant algebroids several hierarchies that can be constructed on Poisson-Nijenhuis manifolds. More precisely, we introduce several notions (Poisson-Nijenhuis, deformation-Nijenhuis and Nijenhuis pairs) that extend to Courant algebroids the notion of a Poisson-Nijenhuis manifold, by using the idea that both the Poisson and the Nijenhuis structures, although they seem to be different in nature when considered on manifolds, are just $(1,1)$-tensors on the usual Courant algebroid $TM \oplus T^*M $ satisfying several constraints. For each of the generalizations mentione…
Almost hypercomplex manifolds with Hermitian and Norden metrics and more specially the corresponding quaternionic Kaehler manifolds are considered. Some necessary and sufficient conditions the investigated manifolds be isotropic hyper-Kaehlerian and flat are found. It is proved that the quaternionic Kaehler manifolds with the considered metric structure are Einstein for dimension at least 8. The class of the non-hyper-Kaehler quaternionic Kaehler manifold of the considered type is determined.
We prove that any Kaehler manifold admitting a flat complex conformal connection is a Bochner-Kaehler manifold with special scalar distribution and zero geometric constants. Applying the local structural theorem for such manifolds we obtain a complete description of the Kaehler manifolds under consideration.
In this paper we study 3-submersions from a QR-hypersurface of a quaternionic Kaehler manifold onto an almost quaternionic hermitian manifold. We also prove the non-existence of quaternionic submersions between quaternionic Kaehler manifolds which are not locally hyper-Kaehler.
We find a minimal differential graded (dg) operad whose generic representations in $R^n$ are in one-to-one correspondence with formal germs of those endomorphisms of the tangent bundle to $R^n$ which satisfy the Nijenhuis integrability condition. This operad is of a surprisingly simple origin -- it is the cobar construction on the quadratic operad of homologically trivial dg Lie algebras. As a by product we obtain a strong homotopy generalization of this geometric structure and show its homotopy equivalence to the structure of contractible dg manifold.
We study generalized Kaehler manifolds for which the corresponding complex structures commute and classify completely the compact generalized Kaehler four-manifolds for which the induced complex structures yield opposite orientations.
We call a quaternionic Kaehler manifold with non-zero scalar curvature, whose quaternionic structure is trivialized by a hypercomplex structure, a hyper-Hermitian quaternionic Kaehler manifold. We prove that every locally symmetric hyper-Hermitian quaternionic Kaehler manifold is locally isometric to the quaternionic projective space or to the quaternionic hyperbolic space. We describe locally the hyper-Hermitian quaternionic Kaehler manifolds with closed Lee form and show that the only complete simply connected such manifold is the quaternionic hyperbolic space.
We relate certain universal curvature identities for Kaehler manifolds to the Euler-Lagrange equations of the scalar invariants which are defined by pairing characteristic forms with powers of the Kaehler form.
Let H be a 4 dimensional almost Hermitian manifold which satisfies the Kaehler identity. Then H is complex Osserman if and only if H has constant holomorphic sectional curvature. We also classify in arbitrary dimensions all the complex Osserman Kaehler manifolds which do not have 3 eigenvalues.
We study almost Kaehler manifolds whose curvature tensor satisfies the third curvature condition of Gray. We show that the study of manifolds within this class reduces to the study of a subclass having the property that the torsion of the first canonical Hermitian connection has the simplest possible algebraic form. This allows to understand the structure of the Kaehler nullity of an almost Kaehler manifold with parallel torsion.
We show how to reduce, under certain regularities conditions, a Poisson-Nijenhuis Lie algebroid to a symplectic-Nijenhuis Lie algebroid with nondegenerate Nijenhuis tensor. We generalize the work done by Magri and Morosi for the reduction of Poisson-Nijenhuis manifolds. The choice of the more general framework of Lie algebroids is motivated by the geometrical study of some reduced bi-Hamiltonian systems. An explicit example of reduction of a Poisson-Nijenhuis Lie algebroid is also provided.
We give an analog of triangle comparison for Kaehler manifolds with a lower bound on the holomorphic bisectional curvature. We show that the condition passes to noncollapsed Gromov-Hausdorff limits. We discuss tangent cones and singular Kaehler spaces.
We investigate Nijenhuis deformations of $L_\infty$-algebras, a notion that unifies several Nijenhuis deformations, namely those of Lie algebras, Lie algebroids, Poisson structures and Courant structures. Additional examples, linked to Lie $n$-algebras and $n$-plectic manifolds, are included.
We study and classify almost complex totally geodesic submanifolds of the nearly Kaehler flag manifold $F_{1,2}(\mathbb C^3)$, and of its semi-Riemannian counterpart. We also develop a structural approach to the nearly Kaehler flag manifold $F_{1,2}(\mathbb C^3)$, expressing for example the curvature tensor in terms of the nearly Kaehler structure $J$ and the three canonical orthogonal complex structures.
In the present paper, we study the hemi-slant submanifolds of nearly Kaehler manifolds. We study the integrability of distributions involved in the definition of hemi-slant submanifolds. some results are worked out on totally umbilical hemi-slant submanifolds. we study the cohomology class for hemi-slant submanifolds of nearly Kaehler manifolds.
In the present paper, we obtain the basic Chen inequalities for submanifolds of quaternion Kaehler-like statistical manifolds. Also, we discuss the same inequality for Lagrangian submanifolds.
Positive Quaternion Kaehler Manifolds are Riemannian manifolds with holonomy contained in Sp(n)Sp(1) and with positive scalar curvature. Conjecturally, they are symmetric spaces. We prove this conjecture in dimension 20 under additional assumptions and we provide recognition theorems for quaternionic projective spaces (in low dimensions) as well as the real Grassmanian (which is Positive Quaternion Kaehler).
A 4-parametric family of 4-dimensional quasi-Kaehler manifolds with Norden metric is constructed on a Lie group. This family is characterized geometrically. The condition for such a 4-manifold to be isotropic Kaehler is given.
Let (g,b,J_+,J_-) be the bihermitian structure corresponding to a generalized Kaehler structure. We find natural integrability conditions under which db=0.
In this paper, we announce the following results: Let M be a Kaehler-Einstein manifold with positive scalar curvature. If the initial metric has nonnegative bisectional curvature and positive at least at one point, then the Kähler-Ricci flow converges exponentially fast to a Kaehler-Einstein metric with constant bisectional curvature.
The Kaehler manifolds of quasi-constant holomorphic sectional curvatures are introduced as Kaehler manifolds with complex distribution of codimension two, whose holomorphic sectional curvature only depends on the corresponding point and the geometric angle, associated with the section. A curvature identity characterizing such manifolds is found. The biconformal group of transformations whose elements transform Kaehler metrics into Kaehler ones is introduced and biconformal tensor invariants are obtained. This makes it possible to classify the manifolds under consideration locally. The class of…
We prove that the compact Kaehler manifolds with first Chern class nonnegative that admit holomorphic parabolic geometries are the flat bundles of rational homogeneous varieties over complex tori. We also prove that the compact Kaehler manifolds with negative first Chern class that admit holomorphic cominiscule geometries are the locally Hermitian symmetric varieties.
We consider 6-dimensional strict nearly Kaehler manifolds acted on by a compact, cohomogeneity one automorphism group G. We classify the compact manifolds of this class up to G-diffeomorphisms. We also prove that the manifold has constant sectional curvature whenever the group G is simple.
In this paper, improving a preceding work, we obtain asymptotic polybalanced kernels associated to extremal Kaehler metrics on polarized algebraic manifolds. As a corollary, we have a stronger asymptotic relative Chow-polystability for extremal Kaehler polarized algebraic manifolds. Finally, related to the Yau-Tian-Donaldson Conjecture for extremal Kaehler metrics, we shall discuss the difference between strong relative K-stability and relative K-stability.
The basic class of the non-integrable almost complex manifolds with Norden metric is considered. Its curvature properties are studied. The isotropic Kaehler type of investigated manifolds is introduced and characterized geometrically.
The purpose of the present paper is to study the differential geometric properties of a quaternion CR-submanifold in a locally conformal quaternion Kaehler manifold.
In this paper, for a Jacobi algebroid $A$, by introducing the notion of Jacobi quasi-Nijenhuis algebroids, which is a generalization of Poisson quasi-Nijenhuis manifolds introduced by Stiénon and Xu, we study generalized complex structures on the Courant-Jacobi algebroid $A\oplus A^*$, which unifies generalized complex (contact) structures on an even(odd)-dimensional manifold.
F. Podestà and A. Spiro introduced a class of $G$-manifolds $M$ with a cohomogeneity one action of a compact semisimple Lie group $G$ which admit an invariant Kaehler structure $(g,J)$ (``standard $G$-manifolds") and studied invariant Kaehler and Kaehler-Einstein metrics on $M$. In the first part of this paper, we gave a combinatoric description of the standard non compact $G$-manifolds as the total space $M_φ$ of the homogeneous vector bundle $M = G\times_H V \to S_0 =G/H$ over a flag manifold $S_0$ and we gave necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of an invariant Kaehler-Eins…
The main result of this paper is that a polar action on a compact irreducible homogeneous Kaehler manifold is coisotropic. This is then used to give new examples of polar actions and to classify coisotropic and polar actions on quadrics.
B. Y. Chen established sharp inequalities between certain Riemannian invariants and the squared mean curvature for submanifolds in real space form as well as in complex space form. In this paper we generalize Chen inequalities for submanifolds of Bochner Kaehler manifolds. Moreover, we consider CR-warped product submanifolds of Bochner Kaehler manifold and establish an inequality for scalar curvature.
