A 4-parametric family of 4-dimensional quasi-Kaehler manifolds with Norden metric is constructed on a Lie group. This family is characterized geometrically. The condition for such a 4-manifold to be isotropic Kaehler is given.
A 4n-parametric family of 4n-dimensional quasi-Kaehler manifolds with Killing Norden metric is constructed on a Lie group. This family is characterized geometrically.
The basic class of the non-integrable almost complex manifolds with Norden metric is considered. Its curvature properties are studied. The isotropic Kaehler type of investigated manifolds is introduced and characterized geometrically.
Almost hypercomplex manifolds with Hermitian and Norden metrics and more specially the corresponding quaternionic Kaehler manifolds are considered. Some necessary and sufficient conditions the investigated manifolds be isotropic hyper-Kaehlerian and flat are found. It is proved that the quaternionic Kaehler manifolds with the considered metric structure are Einstein for dimension at least 8. The class of the non-hyper-Kaehler quaternionic Kaehler manifold of the considered type is determined.
The basic class of the non-integrable almost complex manifolds with a pair of Norden metrics are considered. The interconnections between corresponding quantities at the transformation between the two Levi-Civita connections are given. A 4-parametric family of 4-dimensional quasi-Kaehler manifolds with Norden metric is characterized with respect to the associated Levi-Civita connection.
A 3-parametric family of 6-dimensional quasi-Kaehler manifolds with Norden metric is constructed on a Lie group. This family is characterized geometrically. The condition for such a 6-manifold to be isotropic Kaehler is given.
We study Kaehlerian manifolds with Norden metric $g$ and develop the theory of their holomorphic hypersurfaces with constant totally real sectional curvatures. We prove a classification theorem for the holomorphic hypersurfaces of $(\mathbb{R}^{2n+2}, g, J)$ with constant totally real sectional curvatures.
A type of almost contact hypersurfaces with Norden metric of a Kaehler manifold with Norden metric is considered. The curvature tensor and the special sectional curvatures are characterized. The canonical connection on such manifolds is studied and the form of the corresponding Kaehler curvature tensor is obtained. Some curvature properties of the manifolds belonging to the widest integrable main class of the considered type of hypersurfaces are given.
We study the geometry of the canonical connection on a quasi-Kaehler manifold with Norden metric. We consider the cases when the canonical connection has Kaehler curvature tensor and parallel torsion, and derive conditions for an isotropic-Kaehler manifold. We give the relation between the canonical connection, the B-connection, and the connection with totally skew-symmetric torsion on quasi-Kaehler manifolds with Norden metric.
We consider an almost complex manifold with Norden metric (i. e. a metric with respect to which the almost complex structure is an anti-isometry). On such a manifold we study a linear connection preserving the almost complex structure and the metric and having a totally skew symmetric torsion tensor (i. e. a 3-form). We prove that if a non-Kaehler almost complex manifold with Norden metric admits such connection then the manifold is quasi-Kaehlerian (i. e. has non-integrable almost complex structure). We prove that this connection is unique, determine its form, and construct an example of it o…
In the present work we consider an almost complex manifold with Norden metric (i.e. a metric with respect to which the almost complex structure is an antiisometry). On such a manifold we study a linear connection preserving the almost complex structure and the metric and having a totally skew-symmetric torsion tensor. We consider the case when the manifold admits a connection with parallel totally skew-symmetric torsion and the case when such connection has a Kaehler curvature tensor. We get necessary and sufficient conditions for an isotropic Kaehler manifold with Norden metric.
In this paper we introduce radical transversal lightlike hypersurfaces of almost complex manifolds with Norden metric. The study of these hypersurfaces is motivated by the fact that for indefinite almost Hermitian manifolds this class of lightlike hypersurfaces does not exist. We also establish that radical transversal lightlike hypersurfaces of almost complex manifolds with Norden metric have nice properties as a unique screen distribution and a symmetric Ricci tensor of the considered hypersurfaces of Kaehler manifolds with Norden metric. We obtain new results about lightlike hypersurfaces c…
A 6-parametric family of 6--dimensional quasi-Kähler manifolds with Norden metric is constructed on a Lie group. This family is characterized geometrically.
The object of investigations are almost hypercomplex structures with Hermitian-Norden metrics on 4-dimensional Lie groups considered as smooth manifolds. There are studied both the basic classes of a classification of 4-dimensional indecomposable real Lie algebras depending on two parameters. Some geometric characteristics of the respective almost hypercomplex manifolds with Hermitian-Norden metrics are obtained.
There are studied Lie groups considered as almost hypercomplex Hermitian-Norden manifolds, which are integrable and have the lowest dimension four. It is established a correspondence of the derived Lie algebras of types of invariant hypercomplex structures and the explicit matrix representation of their Lie groups. There are constructed examples of the considered structure of different types on some known Lie groups.
Integrable hypercomplex structures with Hermitian and Norden metrics on Lie groups of dimension 4 are considered. The corresponding five types of invariant hypercomplex structures with hyper-Hermitian metric, studied by M.L. Barberis, are constructed here. The different cases regarding the signature of the basic pseudo-Riemannian metric are considered.
Object of investigation are almost hypercomplex manifolds with Hermitian-Norden metrics of the lowest dimension. The considered manifolds are constructed on 4-dimensional Lie groups. It is established a relation between the classes of a classification of 4-dimensional indecomposable real Lie algebras and the classification of the manifolds under study. The basic geometrical characteristics of the constructed manifolds are studied in the frame of the mentioned classification of the Lie algebras.
An example of a four-dimensional special complex manifold with Norden metric of constant holomorphic sectional curvature is constructed via a two-parametric family of solvable Lie algebras. The curvature properties of the obtained manifold are studied. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the manifold to be isotropic Kählerian are given.
In the present paper, we describe two geometric notions, holomorphic Norden structures and Kähler-Norden structures on Hom-Lie groups, and prove that on Hom-Lie groups in the left invariant setting, these structures are related to each other. We study Kähler-Norden structures with abelian complex structures and give the curvature properties of holomorphic Norden structures on Hom-Lie groups. Finally, we show that any left-invariant holomorphic Hom-Lie group is a flat (holomorphic Norden Hom-Lie algebra carries a Hom-Left-symmetric algebra) if its left-invariant complex structure (complex struc…
In this paper we study submanifolds of almost contact manifolds with Norden metric of codimension two with totally real normal spaces. Examples of such submanifolds as a Lie subgroups are constructed.
The object of study are almost complex manifolds with a pair of Norden metrics, mutually associated by means of the almost complex structure. More precisely, a torsion-free connection and tensors with geometric interpretation are found which are invariant under the twin interchange, i.e. the swap of the counterparts of the pair of Norden metrics and the corresponding Levi-Civita connections. A Lie group depending on four real parameters is considered as an example of a 4-dimensional manifold of the studied type. The mentioned invariant objects are found in an explicit form.
The object of study in the present dissertation are some topics in differential geometry of smooth manifolds with additional tensor structures and metrics of Norden type. There are considered four cases depending on the dimension of the manifold: 2n, 2n + 1, 4n and 4n + 3. The studied tensor structures, which are counterparts in the different related dimensions, are the almost complex/contact/hypercomplex structure and the almost contact 3-structure. The considered metric on the 2n-dimensional case is the Norden metric, and the metrics in the other three cases are generated by it. The purpose …
The aim of this note is the study of Einstein condition for para-holomorphic Riemannian metrics in the para-complex geometry framework. Firstly, we make some general considerations about para-complex Riemannian manifolds (not necessarily para-holomorphic). Next, using an one-to-one correspondence between para-holomorphic Riemannian metrics and para-Kähler Norden metrics, we study the Einstein condition for a para-holomorphic Riemannian metric and the associated real para-Kähler Norden metric on a para-complex manifold. Finally, it is shown that every semi-simple para-complex Lie group inherits…
In this work we deal with left invariant complex and symplectic structures on simply connected four dimensional solvable real Lie groups. We search the general form of such structures, when they exist and we make use of this information to determine all left invariant Kaehler structures. Finally, as an appendix we compute explicitly the real cohomology of the corresponding Lie algebras.
Four dimensional simply connected Lie groups admitting a pseudo Kähler metric are determined. The corresponding Lie algebras are modelized and the compatible pairs $(J,ω)$ are parametrized up to complex isomorphism (where $J$ is a complex structure and $ω$ is a symplectic structure). Such structure gives rise to a pseudo Riemannian metric $g$ for which $J$ is parallel. It is proved that most of these complex homogeneous spaces admit a pseudo Kähler Einstein metric. Ricci flat and flat metrics are determined. In particular Ricci flat unimodular Kähler Lie algebras are flat in dimension four. Ot…
We study G-invariant Kaehler metrics on G^C from the Hamiltonian point of view. As an application we show that there exist (GxG)-invariant Ricci-flat Kaehler metrics on G^C for any compact semisimple Lie group G.
F. Podestà and A. Spiro introduced a class of $G$-manifolds $M$ with a cohomogeneity one action of a compact semisimple Lie group $G$ which admit an invariant Kaehler structure $(g,J)$ (``standard $G$-manifolds") and studied invariant Kaehler and Kaehler-Einstein metrics on $M$. In the first part of this paper, we gave a combinatoric description of the standard non compact $G$-manifolds as the total space $M_φ$ of the homogeneous vector bundle $M = G\times_H V \to S_0 =G/H$ over a flag manifold $S_0$ and we gave necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of an invariant Kaehler-Eins…
Any pseudo-Hermitian or para-Hermitian manifold of dimension 4 admits a unique Kaehler-Weyl structure; this structure is locally conformally Kaehler if and only if the alternating Ricci tensor vanishes. The alternating Ricci tensor takes values in a certain representation space. In this paper, we show that any algebraic possibility in this representation space can in fact be geometrically realized by a left-invariant Kaehler-Weyl structure on a 4-dimensional Lie group in either the Hermitian or the para-Hermitian setting.
We prove various classification results for homogeneous locally conformally symplectic manifolds. In particular, we show that a homogeneous locally conformally Kaehler manifold of a reductive group is of Vaisman type, if the normalizer of the isotropy group is compact. We also show that such a result does not hold in the case of noncompact normalizer and determine all left-invariant locally conformally Kaehler structures on reductive Lie groups.
We classify isometric actions of compact Lie groups on quaternionic-Kähler projective spaces with vanishing homogeneity rank. We also show that they are not in general quaternion-coisotropic.
In this paper, we prove that, if a full irreducible infinite dimensional anti-Kaehler isoparametric submanifold of codimension greater than one has $J$-diagonalizable shape operators, then it is an orbit of the action of a Banach Lie group generated by one-parameter transformation groups induced by holomorphic Killing vector fields defined entirely on the ambient Hilbert space.
We deal with compact Kaehler manifolds M which are acted on by a semisimple compact Lie group G of isometries with codimension one regular orbits. We provide an explicit description of the standard blow-ups of such manifolds along complex singular orbits, in case b_1(M) = 0 and the regular orbits are Levi nondegenerate. Up to very few exceptions, all the nonhomogeneous manifolds in this class are shown to admit a G-invariant Kaehler-Einstein metric, giving completely new examples of compact Kaehler-Einstein manifolds.
We study the almost Kaehler geometry of adjoint orbits of non-compact real semisimple Lie groups endowed with the Kirillov-Kostant-Souriau symplectic form and a canonically defined almost complex structure. We give explicit formulas for the Chern-Ricci form, the Hermitian scalar curvature and the Nijenhuis tensor in terms of root data. We also discuss when the Chern-Ricci form is a multiple of the symplectic form, and when compact quotients of these orbits are of Kaehler type.
We prove that no nilpotent Lie algebra admits an invariant generalized Kaehler structure. This is done by showing that a certain differential graded algebra associated to a generalized complex manifold is formal in the generalized Kaehler case, while it is never formal for a generalized complex structure on a nilpotent Lie algebra.
We construct left invariant quaternionic contact (qc) structures on Lie groups with zero and non-zero torsion and with non-vanishing quaternionic contact conformal curvature tensor, thus showing the existence of non-flat quaternionic contact manifolds. We prove that the product of the real line with a seven dimensional manifold, equipped with a certain qc structure, has a quaternionic Kaehler metric as well as a metric with holonomy contained in Spin(7). As a consequence we determine explicit quaternionic Kaehler metrics and Spin(7)-holonomy metrics which seem to be new. Moreover, we give expl…
We study the projective special Kaehler condition on groups, providing an intrinsic definition of homogeneous projective special Kaehler that includes the previously known examples. We give intrinsic defining equations that may be used without resorting to computations in the special cone, and emphasise certain associated integrability equations. The definition is shown to have the property that the image of such structures under the c-map is necessarily a left-invariant quaternionic Kaehler structure on a Lie group.
We determine an explicit expression for the Ricci tensor of a K-manifold, that is of a compact Kaehler manifold M with vanishing first Betti number, on which a semisimple group G of biholomorphic isometries acts with an orbit of codimension one. We also prove that the Kaehler form and the Ricci form of M are uniquely determined by two special curves with values in g = Lie(G), say Z, Z': R \to g = Lie(G) and we show how the curve Z' is determined by the curve Z. These results are used in another work with F. Podesta', where new examples of non-homogeneous compact Kaehler-Einstein manifolds with…
The subject of investigations are the almost hypercomplex manifolds with Hermitian and anti-Hermitian (Norden) metrics. A linear connection D is introduced such that the structure of these manifolds is parallel with respect to D and its torsion is totally skew-symmetric. The class of the nearly Kaehler manifolds with respect to the first almost complex structure is of special interest. It is proved that D has a D-parallel torsion and is weak if it is not flat. Some curvature properties of these manifolds are studied.
In this paper we show as main results two structure theorems of a compact homogeneous locally conformally Kaehler (or shortly l.c.K.) manifold, a holomorphic structure theorem asserting that it has a structure of holomorphic principal fiber bundle over a flag manifold with fiber a 1-dimensional complex torus, and a metric structure theorem asserting that it is necessarily of Vaisman type. We also discuss and determine l.c.K. reductive Lie groups and compact locally homogeneous l.c.K. manifolds of reductive Lie groups.
A Vaisman manifold is a special kind of locally conformally Kaehler manifold, which is closely related to a Sasaki manifold. In this paper we show a basic structure theorem of simply connected homogeneous Sasaki and Vaisman manifods of unimodular Lie groups, up to holomorphic isometry. For the case of unimodular Lie groups, we obtain a complete classification of simply connected Sasaki and Vaisman unimodular Lie groups, up to modification.
We define the C^*-action on moduli spaces of reductive representations of fundamental groups of quasi-compact Kaehler manifolds by solving Hermitian-Yang-Mills equation. As applications in algebraic geometry we show a non-abelian Hodge (p,q)-type theorem for families of quasi-projective manifolds. We also prove that any discrete sub group of a Lie group of rank >1 that is not of Hodge type can't be the fundamental group of a quasi-compact Kaehler manifold.
We show that if a compact Kaehler manifold $M$ of non-negative Ricci curvature admits closed Fedosov star product then the reduced Lie algebra of holomorphic vector fields on $M$ is reductive. This comes in pair with the obstruction previously found by La Fuente-Gravy. More generally we consider the squared norm of Cahen-Gutt moment map as in the same spirit of Calabi functional for the scalar curvature in cscK problem, and prove a Cahen-Gutt version of Calabi's theorem on the structure of the Lie algebra of holomorphic vector fields for extremal Kaehler manifolds. The proof uses a Hessian for…
In this work we investigate Ricci flows of almost Kaehler structures on Lie algebroids when the fundamental geometric objects are completely determined by (semi) Riemannian metrics, or effective) regular generating Lagrange/ Finsler, functions. There are constructed canonical almost symplectic connections for which the geometric flows can be represented as gradient ones and characterized by nonholonomic deformations of Grigory Perelman's functionals. The first goal of this paper is to define such thermodynamical type values and derive almost Kähler - Ricci geometric evolution equations. The se…
This is the geometric part of two papers on the cohomology of Kaehler groups. Using non-Abelian Hodge theory we show that if a finitely presented group with an unbounded complex linear morphism is the fundamental group of a compact Kaehler manifold then its second or its fourth Betti number does not vanish. Combined with our first paper this shows that a cocompact lattice in a real simple Lie group G of sufficiently large real rank is Kaehler if and only if G is of Hermitian type (a conjecture of Carlson and Toledo).
Given a compact Lie group, endowed with a bi-invariant Riemannian metric, its complexification inherits a Kaehler structure having twice the kinetic energy of the metric as its potential, and Kaehler reduction with reference to the adjoint action yields a stratified Kaehler structure on the resulting adjoint quotient. Exploiting classical invariant theory, in particular bisymmetric functions and variants thereof, we explore the singular Poisson-Kaehler geometry of this quotient. Among other things we prove that, for various compact groups, the real coordinate ring of the adjoint quotient is ge…
A solvmanifold is a compact differentiable manifold M on which a connected solvable Lie group G acts transitively. As the main result, we will see, applying a result of Arapura and Nori on solvable Kaehler groups and some of the author's previous results, that a compact solvmanifold admits a Kaehler structure if and only if it is a finite quotient of a complex torus which has a structure of a complex torus bundle over a complex torus. There are also quite a few comments and remarks on and around this result.
We prove that SU(n) (n > 2) and Sp(n)U(1) (n > 1) are the only connected Lie groups acting transitively and effectively on some sphere which can be weak holonomy groups of a Riemannian manifold without having to contain its holonomy group. In both cases the manifold is Kaehler.
Let M be a compact Sasakian manifold. We show that M admits a CR-embedding into a Sasakian manifold diffeomorphic to a sphere, and this embedding is compatible with the respective Reeb fields. We argue that a stronger embedding theorem cannot be obtained. We use an extension theorem for Kaehler geometry: given a compact Kaehler manifolds $X\subset Y$, and a Kaehler form $ω$ on $X$ which lies in a Kaehler class of $Y$ restricted to $X$, $ω$ can be extended to a Kaehler form on $Y$.
Given a compact Kaehler manifold, we consider the complement U of a divisor with normal crossings. We study the variety of unitary representations of the fundamental group of U with certain restrictions related to the divisor. We show that the possible singularities of this variety as well as of the corresponding moduli space of irreducible representations are quadratic. In the course of our proof we exhibit a differential graded Lie algebra of which reflects our deformation problem.
There is a rich theory of so-called (strict) nearly Kaehler manifolds, almost-Hermitian manifolds generalising the famous almost complex structure on the 6-sphere induced by octonionic multiplication. Nearly Kaehler 6-manifolds play a distinguished role both in the general structure theory and also because of their connection with singular spaces with holonomy group the compact exceptional Lie group G2: the metric cone over a Riemannian 6-manifold M has holonomy contained in G2 if and only if M is a nearly Kaehler 6-manifold. A central problem in the field has been the absence of any complete …
We will discuss in this paper homogeneous locally conformally Keahler (or shortly homogeneous l.c.K.) manifolds and locally homogeneous l.c.K. manifolds from various aspects of study in the field of l.c.K. geometry. We will provide a survey of known results along with some new results and observations; in particular we make a complete classification of 4-dimensional homogeneous and locally homogeneous l.c.K. manifolds in terms of Lie algebras.
We continue the program of Chinea, De Leon and Marrero who studied the topology of cosymplectic manifolds. We study 3-cosymplectic manifolds which are the closest odd-dimensional analogue of hyper-Kaehler structures. We show that there is an action of the Lie algebra so(4,1) on the basic cohomology spaces of a compact 3-cosymplectic manifold with respect to the Reeb foliation. This implies some topological obstructions to the existence of such structures which are expressed by bounds on the Betti numbers. It is known that every 3-cosymplectic manifold is a local Riemannian product of a hyper-K…
The cohomology of a compact Kaehler (resp. hyperKaehler) manifold admits the action of the Lie algebra so(2,1) (resp. so(4,1)). In this paper we show, following an idea of Witten, how this action follows from supersymmetry, in particular from the symmetries of certain supersymmetric sigma models. In addition, many of the fundamental identities in Hodge-Lefschetz theory are also naturally derived from supersymmetry.
We consider locally conformal Kaehler geometry as an equivariant (homothetic) Kaehler geometry: a locally conformal Kaehler manifold is, up to equivalence, a pair (K,Γ) where K is a Kaehler manifold and Γa discrete Lie group of biholomorphic homotheties acting freely and properly discontinuously. We define a new invariant of a locally conformal Kaehler manifold (K,Γ) as the rank of a natural quotient of Γ, and prove its invariance under reduction. This equivariant point of view leads to a proof that locally conformal Kaehler reduction of compact Vaisman manifolds produces Vaisman manifolds and…
We consider Lie(G)-valued G-invariant connections on bundles over spaces G/H, RxG/H and R^2xG/H, where G/H is a compact nearly Kaehler six-dimensional homogeneous space, and the manifolds RxG/H and R^2xG/H carry G_2- and Spin(7)-structures, respectively. By making a G-invariant ansatz, Yang-Mills theory with torsion on RxG/H is reduced to Newtonian mechanics of a particle moving in a plane with a quartic potential. For particular values of the torsion, we find explicit particle trajectories, which obey first-order gradient or hamiltonian flow equations. In two cases, these solutions correspond…
We consider non-Kaehler compact complex manifolds which are homogeneous under the action of a compact Lie group of biholomorphisms and we investigate the existence of special (invariant) Hermitian metrics on these spaces. We focus on a particular class of such manifolds comprising the case of Calabi-Eckmann manifolds and we prove the existence of an invariant Hermitian metric which is Chern-Einstein, namely whose second Ricci tensor of the associated Chern connection is a positive multiple of the metric itself. The uniqueness is also discussed.
We give a systematic treatment of the stability theory for action of a real reductive Lie group G on a topological space. More precisely, we introduce an abstract setting for actions of non-compact real reductive Lie groups on topological spaces that admit functions similar to the Kempf-Ness function. The point of this construction is that one can characterize stability, semi-stability and polystability of a point by numerical criteria, that is in terms of a function called maximal weight. We apply this setting to the actions of a real non-compact reductive Lie group G on a real compact subman…
This paper pursues the study of the Calabi-Yau equation on certain symplectic non-Kaehler 4-manifolds, building on a key example of Tosatti-Weinkove in which more general theory had proved less effective. Symplectic 4-manifolds admitting a 2-torus fibration over a 2-torus base are modelled on one of three solvable Lie groups. Having assigned an invariant almost-Kaehler structure and a volume form that effectively varies only on the base, one seeks a symplectic form with this volume. Our approach simplifies the previous analysis of the problem, and establishes the existence of solutions in vari…
