We introduce Lie-Nijenhuis bialgebroids as Lie bialgebroids endowed with an additional derivation-like object. They give a complete infinitesimal description of Poisson-Nijenhuis groupoids, and key examples include Poisson-Nijenhuis manifolds, holomorphic Lie bialgebroids and flat Lie bialgebra bundles. To achieve our goal we develop a theory of "generalized derivations" and their duality, extending the well-established theory of derivations on vector bundles.
We propose a definition of Poisson quasi-Nijenhuis Lie algebroids as a natural generalization of Poisson quasi-Nijenhuis manifolds and show that any such Lie algebroid has an associated quasi-Lie bialgebroid. Therefore, also an associated Courant algebroid is obtained. We introduce the notion of a morphism of quasi-Lie bialgebroids and of the induced Courant algebroids morphism and provide some examples of Courant algebroid morphisms. Finally, we use paired operators to deform doubles of Lie and quasi-Lie bialgebroids and find an application to generalized complex geometry.
We propose a definition of Jacobi quasi-Nijenhuis algebroid and show that any such Jacobi algebroid has an associated quasi-Jacobi bialgebroid. Therefore, also an associated Courant-Jacobi algebroid is obtained. We introduce the notions of quasi-Jacobi bialgebroid morphism and Courant-Jacobi algebroid morphism providing also some examples of Courant-Jacobi algebroid morphisms.
In this paper, we develop the theory of Hom-Lie algebroids, Hom-Lie bialgebroids and Hom-Courant algebroids introduced by Cai, Liu and Sheng. Specifically, we introduce the notions of Hom-Poisson, Hom-Nijenhuis and Hom-Poisson-Nijenhuis structures on a Hom-Lie algebroid and the notion of Hom-Dirac structures on a Hom-Courant algebroid. We show that these structures satisfy similar properties to structures non "Hom-"version. For example, there exists the hierarchy of a Hom-Poisson-Nijenhuis structure and we have a relation between Hom-Dirac structures and Maurer-Cartan type equation. Moreover w…
The notion of a generalized Lie bialgebroid (a generalization of the notion of a Lie bialgebroid) is introduced in such a way that a Jacobi manifold has associated a canonical generalized Lie bialgebroid. As a kind of converse, we prove that a Jacobi structure can be defined on the base space of a generalized Lie bialgebroid. We also show that it is possible to construct a Lie bialgebroid from a generalized Lie bialgebroid and, as a consequence, we deduce a duality theorem. Finally, some special classes of generalized Lie bialgebroids are considered: triangular generalized Lie bialgebroids and…
Jacobi groupoids are introduced as a generalization of Poisson and contact groupoids and it is proved that generalized Lie bialgebroids are the infinitesimal invariants of Jacobi groupoids. Several examples are discussed.
We show that well known structures on Lie algebroids can be viewed as Nijenhuis tensors or pairs of compatible tensors on Courant algebroids. We study compatibility and construct hierarchies of these structures.
We study quasi-Jacobi and Jacobi-quasi bialgebroids and their relationships with twisted Jacobi and quasi Jacobi manifolds. We show that we can construct quasi-Lie bialgebroids from quasi-Jacobi bialgebroids, and conversely, and also that the structures induced on their base manifolds are related via a quasi Poissonization.
We show how to reduce, under certain regularities conditions, a Poisson-Nijenhuis Lie algebroid to a symplectic-Nijenhuis Lie algebroid with nondegenerate Nijenhuis tensor. We generalize the work done by Magri and Morosi for the reduction of Poisson-Nijenhuis manifolds. The choice of the more general framework of Lie algebroids is motivated by the geometrical study of some reduced bi-Hamiltonian systems. An explicit example of reduction of a Poisson-Nijenhuis Lie algebroid is also provided.
The word `double' was used by Ehresmann to mean `an object X in the category of all X'. Double categories, double groupoids and double vector bundles are instances, but the notion of Lie algebroid cannot readily be doubled in the Ehresmann sense, since a Lie algebroid bracket cannot be defined diagrammatically. In this paper we use the duality of double vector bundles to define a notion of double Lie algebroid, and we show that this abstracts the infinitesimal structure (at second order) of a double Lie groupoid. We further show that the cotangent of either Lie algebroid in a Lie bialgebroid h…
We define \textit{graded manifolds} as a version of supermanifolds endowed with an additional $\mathbb Z$-grading in the structure sheaf, called \textit{weight} (not linked with parity). Examples are ordinary supermanifolds, vector bundles over supermanifolds, double vector bundles, iterated constructions like $TTM$, etc. I give a construction of \textit{doubles} for \textit{graded} $QS$- and \textit{graded $QP$-manifolds} (graded manifolds endowed with a homological vector field and a Schouten/Poisson bracket). Relation is explained with Drinfeld's Lie bialgebras and their doubles. Graded $QS…
Motivated by a search for Lie group structures on groups of Poisson diffeomorphisms [24], we investigate linearizability of Poisson structures of Poisson groupoids around the unit section. After extending the Lagrangian neighbourhood theorem to the setting of cosymplectic Lie algebroids, we establish that dual integrations of triangular bialgebroids are always linearizable. Additionally, we show that the (non-dual) integration of a triangular Lie bialgebroid is linearizable whenever the $r$-matrix is of so-called cosymplectic type. The proof relies on the integration of a triangular Lie bialge…
We develop a theory of quasi-Lie bialgebroids using a homological approach. This notion is a generalization of quasi-Lie bialgebras, as well as twisted Poisson structures with a 3-form background which have recently appeared in the context of string theory, and were studied by Ševera and Weinstein using a different method.
In his study of Dirac structures, a notion which includes both Poisson structures and closed 2-forms, T. Courant introduced a bracket on the direct sum of vector fields and 1-forms. This bracket does not satisfy the Jacobi identity except on certain subspaces. In this paper we systematize the properties of this bracket in the definition of a Courant algebroid. This structure on a vector bundle $E\rightarrow M$, consists of an antisymmetric bracket on the sections of $E$ whose ``Jacobi anomaly'' has an explicit expression in terms of a bundle map $E\rightarrow TM$ and a field of symmetric bilin…
We first recall some basic definitions and facts about Jacobi manifolds, generalized Lie bialgebroids, generalized Courant algebroids and Dirac structures. We establish an one-one correspondence between reducible Dirac structures of the generalized Lie bialgebroid of a Jacobi manifold $(M,Λ,E)$ for which 1 is an admissible function and Jacobi quotient manifolds of $M$. We study Jacobi reductions from the point of view of Dirac structures theory and we present some examples and applications.
In this dissertation we study Courant algebroids, objects that first appeared in the work of T. Courant on Dirac structures; they were later studied by Liu, Weinstein and Xu who used Courant algebroids to generalize the notion of the Drinfeld double to Lie bialgebroids. As a first step towards understanding the complicated properties of Courant algebroids, we interpret them by associating to each Courant algebroid a strongly homotopy Lie algebra in a natural way. Next, we propose an alternative construction of the double of a Lie bialgebroid as a homological hamiltonian vector field on an even…
We study integrability of generalized almost contact structures, and find conditions under which the main associated maximal isotropic vector bundles form Lie bialgebroids. These conditions differentiate the concept of generalized contact structures from a counterpart of generalized complex structures on odd-dimensional manifolds. We name the latter strong generalized contact structures. Using a Boothby-Wang construction bridging symplectic structures and contact structures, we find examples to demonstrate that, within the category of generalized contact structures, classical contact structure…
We study generalized Lie bialgebroids over a single point, that is, generalized Lie bialgebras. Lie bialgebras are examples of generalized Lie bialgebras. Moreover, we prove that the last ones can be considered as the infinitesimal invariants of Lie groups endowed with a certain type of Jacobi structures. We also propose a method to obtain generalized Lie bialgebras. It is a generalization of the Yang-Baxter equation method. Finally, we describe the structure of a compact generalized Lie bialgebra.
We study pairs of structures, such as the Poisson-Nijenhuis structures, on the tangent bundle of a manifold or, more generally, on a Lie algebroid or a Courant algebroid. These composite structures are defined by two of the following, a closed 2-form, a Poisson bivector or a Nijenhuis tensor, with suitable compatibility assumptions. We establish the relationships between such composite structures. We then show that the non-degenerate Monge-Ampère structures on 2-dimensional manifolds satisfying an integrability condition provide numerous examples of such structures, while in the case of 3-dime…
We provide explicit formulas for integrating multiplicative forms on local Lie groupoids in terms of infinitesimal data. Combined with our previous work [8], which constructs the local Lie groupoid of a Lie algebroid, these formulas produce concrete integrations of several geometric stuctures defined infinitesimally. In particular, we obtain local integrations and non-degenerate realizations of Poisson, Nijenhuis-Poisson, Dirac, and Jacobi structures by local symplectic, symplectic-Nijenhuis, presymplectic, and contact groupoids, respectively.
In this paper, we construct a homotopy Poisson algebra of degree 3 associated to a split Lie 2-algebroid, by which we give a new approach to characterize a split Lie 2-bialgebroid. We develop the differential calculus associated to a split Lie 2-algebroid and establish the Manin triple theory for split Lie 2-algebroids. More precisely, we give the notion of a strict Dirac structure and define a Manin triple for split Lie 2-algebroids to be a CLWX 2-algebroid with two transversal strict Dirac structures. We show that there is a one-to-one correspondence between Manin triples for split Lie 2-alg…
We introduce Poisson double algebroids, and the equivalent concept of double Lie bialgebroid, which arise as second-order infinitesimal counterparts of Poisson double groupoids. We develop their underlying Lie theory, showing how these objects are related by differentiation and integration. We use these results to revisit Lie 2-bialgebras by means of Poisson double structures.
We introduce a general notion of quantum universal enveloping algebroids (QUE algebroids), or quantum groupoids, as a unification of quantum groups and star-products. Some basic properties are studied including the twist construction and the classical limits. In particular, we show that a quantum groupoid naturally gives rise to a Lie bialgebroid as a classical limit. Conversely, we formulate a conjecture on the existence of a quantization for any Lie bialgebroid, and prove this conjecture for the special case of regular triangular Lie bialgebroids. As an application of this theory, we study t…
The canonical involution of a double (=iterated) tangent bundle may be dualized in different ways to yield relations between the Tulczyjew diffeomorphism, the Poisson anchor associated with the standard symplectic structure on the cotangent space, and the reversal diffeomorphism. We show that the constructions which yield these maps extend very generally to the double Lie algebroids of double Lie groupoids, where they play a crucial role in the relations between double Lie algebroids and Lie bialgebroids.
For a transitive Lie algebroid A on a connected manifold M and its a representation on a vector bundle F, we study the localization map Y^1: H^1(A,F)-> H^1(L_x,F_x), where L_x is the adjoint algebra at x in M. The main result in this paper is that: Ker Y^1_x=Ker(p^{1*})=H^1_{deR}(M,F_0). Here p^{1*} is the lift of H^1(\huaA,F) to its counterpart over the universal covering space of M and H^1_{deR}(M,F_0) is the F_0=H^0(L,F)-coefficient deRham cohomology. We apply these results to study the associated vector bundles to principal fiber bundles and the structure of transitive Lie bialgebroids.
In this paper we introduce multiplicative Dirac structures on Lie groupoids, providing a unified framework to study both multiplicative Poisson bivectors (i.e., Poisson group(oid)s) and multiplicative closed 2-forms (e.g., symplectic groupoids). We prove that for every source simply connected Lie groupoid $G$ with Lie algebroid $AG$, there exists a one-to-one correspondence between multiplicative Dirac structures on $G$ and Dirac structures on $AG$, which are compatible with both the linear and algebroid structures of $AG$. We explain in what sense this extends the integration of Lie bialgebro…
We show how to extend the construction of Tulczyjew triples to Lie algebroids via graded manifolds. We also provide a generalisation of triangular Lie bialgebroids as higher Poisson and Schouten structures on Lie algebroids.
Motivated by questions from quantum group and field theories, we review structures on manifolds that are weaker versions of Poisson structures, and variants of the notion of Lie algebroid. We give a simple definition of the Courant algebroids and introduce the notion of a deriving operator for the Courant bracket of the double of a proto-bialgebroid. We then describe and relate the various quasi-Poisson structures, which have appeared in the literature since 1991, and the twisted Poisson structures studied by Severa and Weinstein.
After a brief summary of the main properties of Poisson manifolds and Lie algebroids in general, we survey recent work on the modular classes of Poisson and twisted Poisson manifolds, of Lie algebroids with a Poisson or twisted Poisson structure, and of Poisson-Nijenhuis manifolds. A review of the spinor approach to the modular class concludes the paper.
