The canonical involution of a double (=iterated) tangent bundle may be dualized in different ways to yield relations between the Tulczyjew diffeomorphism, the Poisson anchor associated with the standard symplectic structure on the cotangent space,and the reversal diffeomorphism. We show that the constructions which yield these maps extend very generally to the double Lie algebroids of double Lie groupoids, where they play a crucial role in the relations between double Lie algebroids and Lie bialgebroids.
We prove the bounded isometry conjecture of F. Lalonde and L. Polterovich for a special class of closed symplectic manifolds. As a byproduct, it is shown that the flux group of a product of these special symplectic manifold is isomorphic to the direct sum of the flux group of each symplectic manifold.
By considering suitable Poisson groupoids, we develop an approach to obtain Lie group structures on (subgroups of) the Poisson diffeomorphism groups of various classes of Poisson manifolds. As applications, we show that the Poisson diffeomorphism groups of (normal-crossing) log-symplectic, elliptic symplectic, scattering-symplectic and cosymplectic manifolds are regular infinite-dimensional Lie groups.
We study the action of Hamiltonian diffeomorphisms of a compact symplectic manifold ($X,ω$) on $C^\infty(X)$ and on functions $C^\infty(X)\to \mathbb R$. We describe various properties of invariant convex functions on $C^\infty(X)$. Among other things we show that continuous convex functions $C^\infty(X)\to \mathbb R$ that are invariant under the action are automatically invariant under so called strict rearrangements and they are continuous in the sup norm topology of $C^\infty(X)$; but this is not generally true if the convexity condition is dropped.
We prove that there exist diffeomorphisms of tori, supported in a disc, which are not isotopic to symplectomorphisms with respect to any symplectic structure. This yields a partial negative answer to a question of Benson and Gordon about the existence of symplectic structures on tori with exotic differential structure.
We show the existence of a weak bi-invariant symmetric nondegenerate 2-form on the symplectic diffeomorphisms group $\mathcal{D}_ω$ of a symplectic Riemannian manifold $(M,g,ω)$ and study its properties. We describe the Euler's equation on a Lie algebra of group $\mathcal{D}_ω$ and calculate the sectional curvature of $\mathcal{D}_ω(T^n)$.
We compute the Poisson cohomology of a class of Poisson manifolds that are symplectic away from a collection $D$ of hypersurfaces. These Poisson structures induce a generalization of symplectic and cosymplectic structures, which we call a k-cosymplectic structure, on the intersection of hypersurfaces in $D$.
The imploded cross-section of a symplectic manifold is a stratified space allowing for an abelianization of its symplectic reduction. After recalling symplectic and Poisson reduction and reviewing the basics of symplectic implosion, we prove a cross-section theorem for Poisson manifolds, generalizing the Guillemin-Sternberg theorem for symplectic manifolds, which constitutes a first step towards Poisson implosion. We define the symplectic displacement energy of a non-empty subset of a compact symplectic manifold as the infimum of the Hofer-like norm [5] of symplectic diffeomorphisms that displace the set. We show that this energy (like the usual displacement energy defined using Hamiltonian diffeomorphisms) is a strictly positive number on sets with non-empty interior. As a consequence we prove a result justifying the introduction of the notion of strong symplectic homeomorphisms [4].
We introduce scattering-symplectic manifolds, manifolds with a type of minimally degenerate Poisson structure that is not too restrictive so as to have a large class of examples, yet restrictive enough for standard Poisson invariants to be computable. This paper will demonstrate the potential of the scattering symplectic setting. In particular, we construct scattering-symplectic spheres and scattering symplectic gluings between strong convex symplectic fillings of a contact manifold. We show how one can handle the formalism developped by Yurii Vorobjev in order to give general results about the problems of linearisation and of normal form of a Poisson structure in the neighborhood of one of its symplectic leaves.
We connect Poisson and near-symplectic geometry by showing that there is a singular Poisson structure on a near-symplectic 4-manifold. The Poisson structure $π$ is defined on the tubular neighbourhood of the singular locus $Z_ω$ of the 2-form $ω$, it is of maximal rank 4 and it vanishes on a degeneracy set containing $Z_ω$. We compute its smooth Poisson cohomology, which depends on the modular vector field and it is finite dimensional. In this paper we introduce the notion of a smooth structure on a stratified space, the notion of a Poisson smooth structure and the notion of a weakly symplectic smooth structure on a stratified symplectic space, refining the concept of a stratified symplectic Poisson algebra introduced by Sjamaar and Lerman. We show that these smooth spaces possess several important properties, e.g. the existence of smooth partitions of unity. We show that, for any regular Poisson manifold, there is an injective natural linear map from the first leafwise cohomology space into the first Poisson cohomology space which maps the Reeb class of the symplectic foliation to the modular class of the Poisson manifold. The Riemannian interpretation of those classes will permit us to show that a regular Poisson manifold whose symplectic foliation is of codimension one is unimodular if and only if its symplectic foliation is Riemannian foliation. We use the techniques of integration of Poisson manifolds into symplectic Lie groupoids to build symplectic resolutions (= desingularizations) of the closure of a symplectic leaf. More generally, we show how Lie groupoids can be used to lift singularities, in particular when one imposes a compatibility condition with an additional structure given by a multi-vector field.
Symplectic manifolds which are homogeneous spaces of Poisson-Lie groups are studied in this paper. We show that these spaces are, under certain assumptions, covering spaces of dressing orbits of the Poisson-Lie groups which act on them. The effect of the Poisson induction procedure on such spaces is also examined, thus leading to an interesting generalization of the notion of homogeneous space. Some examples of homogeneous spaces of Poisson-Lie groups are discussed in the light of the previous results.
A geometric description of the first Poisson cohomology groups is given in the semilocal context, around (possibly singular) symplectic leaves. This result is based on the splitting theorems for infinitesimal automorphisms of coupling Poisson structures which describe the interaction between the tangential and transversal data of the characteristic distributions. As a consequence, we derive some criteria of vanishing of the first Poisson cohomology groups and apply the general splitting formulas to some particular classes of Poisson structures associated with singular symplectic foliations.
We present a general framework for reduction of symplectic Q-manifolds via graded group actions. In this framework, the homological structure on the acting group is a multiplicative multivector field.
During the last thirty years, symplectic or Marsden--Weinstein reduction has been a major tool in the construction of new symplectic manifolds and in the study of mechanical systems with symmetry. This procedure has been traditionally associated to the canonical action of a Lie group on a symplectic manifold, in the presence of a momentum map. In this note we show that the symplectic reduction phenomenon has much deeper roots. This article addresses the problem of developing an extension of the Marsden- Weinstein reduction process to symplectic Lie algebroids, and in particular to the case of the symplectic cover of a fiberwise linear Poisson structure, whose reduction process is the analogue to cotangent bundle reduction in the context of Lie algebroids.
An embedding of the group $\Diff(S^{1})$ of orientation preserving diffeomorphims of the unit circle $S^1$ into an infinite-dimensional symplectic group, $\Sp(\infty)$, is studied. The authors prove that this embedding is not surjective. A Brownian motion is constructed on $\Sp(\infty)$. This study is motivated by recent work of H. Airault, S. Fang and P. Malliavin.
We show that generalized broken fibrations in arbitrary dimensions admit rank-2 Poisson structures compatible with the fibration structure. After extending the notion of wrinkled fibration to dimension 6 we prove that these wrinkled fibrations also admit compatible rank-2 Poisson structures. In the cases with indefinite singularities we can provide these wrinkled fibrations in dimension 6 with near-symplectic structures.
Several types of generically-nondegenerate Poisson structures can be effectively studied as symplectic structures on naturally associated Lie algebroids. Relevant examples of this phenomenon include log-, elliptic, $b^k$-, scattering and elliptic-log Poisson structures. In this paper we discuss topological obstructions to the existence of such Poisson structures, obtained through the characteristic classes of their associated symplectic Lie algebroids. In particular we obtain the full obstructions for surfaces to carry such Poisson structures.

Let $M^{2n}$ be a Poisson manifold with Poisson bivector field $Π$. We say that $M$ is b-Poisson if the map $Π^n:M\toΛ^{2n}(TM)$ intersects the zero section transversally on a codimension one submanifold $Z\subset M$. This paper will be a systematic investigation of such Poisson manifolds. In particular, we will study in detail the structure of $(M,Π)$ in the neighbourhood of $Z$ and using symplectic techniques define topological invariants which determine the structure up to isomorphism. In this paper we study Poisson actions of complete Poisson groups, without any connectivity assumption or requiring the existence of a momentum map. For any complete Poisson group $G$ with dual $G^\star$ we obtain a suitably connected integrating symplectic double groupoid $\calS$. As a consequence, the cotangent lift of a Poisson action on an integrable Poisson manifold $P$ can be integrated to a Poisson action of the symplectic groupoid $\poidd{\calS}{G^\star}$ on the symplectic groupoid for $P$. A $n$-dimensional Lie group $G$ equipped with a left invariant symplectic form $\om^+$ is called a symplectic Lie group. It is well-known that $\om^+$ induces a left invariant affine structure on $G$. Relatively to this affine structure we show that the left invariant Poisson tensor $π^+$ corresponding to $\om^+$ is polynomial of degree 1 and any right invariant $k$-multivector field on $G$ is polynomial of degree at most $k$. A surface $Σ$ endowed with a Poisson tensor $π$ is known to admit a canonical integration $\mathcal{G}(π)$, which is a 4-dimensional manifold with a (symplectic) groupoid structure. In this short note we show that when $π$ is not an area form on the 2-sphere, then $\mathcal{G}(π)$ is diffeomorphic to the cotangent bundle $T^*Σ$, this extending results in \cite{Ma09} and \cite{BCST12}.
We prove that the information geometry's Frobenius manifold is a symplectic manifold having Poisson structures. By proving this statement, a bridge is created between the theories developed by Vinberg, Souriau and Koszul and the Frobenius manifold approach. Until now these approaches seemed disconnected.
We deform the moment map picture on the space of symplectic connections on a symplectic manifold. To do that, we study a vector bundle of Fedosov star product algebras on the space of symplectic connections. We describe a natural formal connection on this bundle adapted to the star product algebras on the fibers. We study its curvature and show the star product trace of the curvature is a formal symplectic form on the space of symplectic connections. The ``Flux conjecture'' for symplectic manifolds states that the group of Hamiltonian diffeomorphisms is C^1-closed in the group of all symplectic diffeomorphisms. We prove the conjecture for spherically rational manifolds and for those whose minimal Chern number on 2-spheres either vanishes or is large enough. We also confirm a natural version of the Flux conjecture for symplectic torus actions. In some cases we can go further and prove that the group of Hamiltonian diffeomorphisms is C^0-closed in the identity component of the group of all symplectic diffeomorphisms.
We prove unobstructed deformations for compact Kaehlerian even-dimensional Poisson manifolds whose Poisson tensor degenerates along a divisor with mild singularities. Examples include Hilbert schemes of del Pezzo surfaces.
We prove that the group of area-preserving diffeomorphisms of the 2-sphere admits a non-trivial homogeneous quasimorphism to the real numbers with the following property. Its value on any diffeomorphism supported in a sufficiently small open subset of the sphere equals to the Calabi invariant of the diffeomorphism. This result extends to more general symplectic manifolds: If the symplectic manifold is monotone and its quantum homology algebra is semi-simple we construct a similar quasimorphism on the universal cover of the group of Hamiltonian diffeomorphisms.
In this note we prove that an analytic symplectic action of a semisimple Lie algebra can be locally linearized in Darboux coordinates. This result yields simultaneous analytic linearization for Hamiltonian vector fields in a neighbourhood of a common zero. We also provide an example of smooth non-linearizable Hamiltonian action with semisimple linear part. The smooth analogue only holds if the semisimple Lie algebra is of compact type. We consider the problem of the symplectic realization of a Poisson-Nijenhuis manifold. By applying a new technique developed by M. Crainic and I. Marcut for the study of the above problem in the case of a Poisson manifold, we establish the existence, under a condition, of a nondegenerate Poisson-Nijenhuis structure on an open neighborhood of the zero-section of the cotangent bundle of the manifold, which symplectizes the initial structure. Additionally, we present some examples.
We provide an alternative method for obtaining of compatible Poisson structures on Lie groups by means of the adjoint representations of Lie algebras. In this way, we calculate some compatible Poisson structures on four dimensional and nilpotent six dimensional symplectic real Lie groups. Then using Magri-Morosi's theorem we obtain new bi-Hamiltonian systems with four dimensional and nilpotent six dimensional symplectic real Lie groups as phase spaces.
We establish a connection between smooth symplectic resolutions and symplectic deformations of a (possibly singular) affine Poisson variety. In particular, let V be a finite-dimensional complex symplectic vector space and G\subset Sp(V) a finite subgroup. Our main result says that the so-called Calogero-Moser deformation of the orbifold V/G is, in an appropriate sense, a versal Poisson deformation. We introduce a new kind of groupoid--a pseudo étale groupoid, which provides many interesting examples of noncommutative Poisson algebras as defined by Block, Getzler, and Xu. Following the idea that symplectic and Poisson geometries are the semiclassical limits of the corresponding quantum geometries, we quantize these noncommutative Poisson manifolds in the framework of deformation quantization.

We show that various notions of integrability for Poisson brackets are all equivalent, and we give the precise obstructions to integrating Poisson manifolds. We describe the integration as a symplectic quotient, in the spirit of the Poisson sigma-model of Cattaneo and Felder. For regular Poisson manifolds we express the obstructions in terms of variations of symplectic areas. As an application of these results, we show that a Poisson manifold admits a complete symplectic realization if, and only if, it is integrable. Groupoids are mathematical structures able to describe symmetry properties more general than those described by groups. They were introduced (and named) by H. Brandt in 1926. Around 1950, Charles Ehresmann used groupoids with additional structures (topological and differentiable) as essential tools in topology and differential geometry. We study noncommutative generalizations of such notions of the classical symplectic geometry as degenerate Poisson structure, Poisson submanifold and quotient manifold, symplectic foliation and symplectic leaf for associative Poisson algebras. We consider these structures for the case of the endomorphism algebra of a vector bundle, and give the full description of the family of Poisson structures for this algebra.
We show how to reduce, under certain regularities conditions, a Poisson-Nijenhuis Lie algebroid to a symplectic-Nijenhuis Lie algebroid with nondegenerate Nijenhuis tensor. We generalize the work done by Magri and Morosi for the reduction of Poisson-Nijenhuis manifolds. The choice of the more general framework of Lie algebroids is motivated by the geometrical study of some reduced bi-Hamiltonian systems. An explicit example of reduction of a Poisson-Nijenhuis Lie algebroid is also provided.
In this short note we give a complete characterization of a certain class of compact corank one Poisson manifolds, those equipped with a closed one-form defining the symplectic foliation and a closed two-form extending the symplectic form on each leaf. If such a manifold has a compact leaf, then all the leaves are compact, and furthermore the manifold is a mapping torus of a compact leaf. These manifolds and their regular Poisson structures admit an extension as the critical hypersurface of a Poisson b-manifold as we consider in a later paper.
Symplectic realization is a longstanding problem which can be traced back to Sophus Lie. In this paper, we present an explicit solution to this problem for an arbitrary holomorphic Poisson manifold. More precisely, for any holomorphic Poisson manifold $(X, π)$, we prove that there exists a holomorphic symplectic structure in a neighborhood $Y$ of the zero section of $T^*X$ such that the projection map is a symplectic realization of the given Poisson manifold, and moreover the zero section is a holomorphic Lagrangian submanifold. A symplectic groupoid $G.:=(G_1 \rightrightarrows G_0)$ determines a Poisson structure on $G_0$. In this case, we call $G.$ a symplectic groupoid of the Poisson manifold $G_0$. However, not every Poisson manifold $M$ has such a symplectic groupoid. This keeps us away from some desirable goals: for example, establishing Morita equivalence in the category of all Poisson manifolds. In this paper we study the symplectic and Poisson geometry of moduli spaces of flat connections over quilted surfaces. These are surfaces where the structure group varies from region to region in the surface, and where a reduction (or relation) of structure occurs along the boundaries of the regions. Our main theoretical tool is a new form moment-map reduction in the context of Dirac geometry. This reduction framework allows us to use very general relations of structure groups, and to investigate both the symplectic and Poisson geometry of the resulting moduli spaces from a unified perspective…
We extend the AKSZ formulation of the Poisson sigma model to more general target spaces, and we develop the general theory of graded geometry for poly-symplectic and poly-Poisson structures. In particular we prove a Schwarz-type theorem and transgression for graded poly-symplectic structures, recovering the action functional and the poly-symplectic structure of the reduced phase space of the poly-Poisson sigma model, from the AKSZ construction.
On a symplectic manifold a family of generalized Poisson brackets associated with powers of the symplectic form is studied. The extreme cases are related to the Hamiltonian and Liouville dynamics. It is shown that the Dirac brackets can be obtained in a similar way.
Using Fedosov's approach we give a geometric construction of a formal symplectic groupoid over any Poisson manifold endowed with a torsion-free Poisson contravariant connection. In the case of Kaehler-Poisson manifolds this construction provides, in particular, the formal symplectic groupoids with separation of variables. We show that the dual of a semisimple Lie algebra does not admit torsion-free Poisson contravariant connections.
By studying the Higgs bundle equations with the gauge group replaced by the group of symplectic diffeomorphisms of the 2-sphere we encounter the notion of a folded hyperkaehler 4-manifold and conjecture the existence of a family of such metrics parametrised by an infinite-dimensional analogue of Teichmueller space.
