We prove that there exist diffeomorphisms of tori, supported in a disc, which are not isotopic to symplectomorphisms with respect to any symplectic structure. This yields a partial negative answer to a question of Benson and Gordon about the existence of symplectic structures on tori with exotic differential structure.
We prove that $π_1(\text{Ham}(M))$ contains an infinite cyclic subgroup, where $\text{Ham}(M)$ is the Hamiltonian group of the one point blow up of ${\Bbb C}P^3$. We give a sufficient condition for the group $π_1(\text{Ham}(M))$ to contain an infinite cyclic subgroup, when $M$ is a general toric manifold.
By a theorem of Banyaga the group of diffeomorphisms of a manifold $P$ preserving a regular contact form $α$ is a central $S^1$ extension of the commutator of the group of symplectomorphisms of the base $B = P/S^1$. We show that if $T$ is a Hamiltonian maximal torus in the group of symplectomorphism of $B$, then its preimage under the extension map is a maximal torus not only in the group $\Diff(P, α)$ of diffeomorphisms of $P$ preserving $α$ but also in the much bigger group of contactomorphisms $\Diff (P, ξ)$, the group of diffeomorphism of $P$ preserving the contact distribution $ξ= \ker α$…
In this paper we study the parabolic evolution equation $\partial_t u=(|Du|^{2}+2|\det Du|)^{-1} Δu$, where $u : M\times[0,\infty) \to N$ is an evolving map between compact flat surfaces. We use a tensor maximum principle for the induced metric to establish two-sided bounds on the singular values of Du, which shows that unlike harmonic map heat flow, this flow preserves diffeomorphisms. A change of variables for Du then allows us to establish a $C^α$ estimate for the coefficient of the tension field, and thus (thanks to the quasilinear structure and the Schauder estimates) we get full regulari…
A smooth diffeomorphism is said to be distributionally uniquely ergodic (DUE for short) when it is uniquely ergodic and its unique invariant probability measure is the only invariant distribution (up to multiplication by a constant). Ergodic translations on tori are classical examples of DUE diffeomorphisms. In this article we construct DUE diffeomorphisms supported on closed manifolds different from tori, providing some counterexamples to a conjecture proposed by Forni in [For08].
In 1993, Y.-G. Oh proposed a problem whether standard Lagrangian tori in C^n are volume minimizing under Hamiltonian isotopies of C^n. In this article, we prove that most of them do not have such property if the dimension n is greater than two. We also discuss the existence of Hamiltonian non-volume minimizing Lagrangian torus orbits of compact toric Kahler manifolds.
In this paper, we investigate the ergodic and rigidity properties of weakly hyperbolic group actions. Motivated by classical theorems describing Anosov diffeomorphisms, we obtain two main results: First, all C^2 volume preserving weakly hyperbolic actions on closed manifolds are ergodic. This result generalizes Anosov's classical theorem on ergodicity of Anosov diffeomorphisms to the wider class of weakly hyperbolic group actions. To state the second main result, suppose that A denotes a weakly hyperbolic action of a higher rank lattice (such as SL(n,Z) for n>2) by C^2 volume preserving diffeo…
Motivated by the torus stability problem, in this work we study Kähler metrics with almost non-negative scalar curvature on complex torus. We prove that after passing to a subsequence, non-collapsing sequence of Kähler metrics with almost non-negative scalar curvature will converge to flat torus weakly.
In this work, we consider sequence of metrics with almost non-negative scalar curvature on torus. We show that if the sequence is uniformly conformal to another sequence of metrics with uniformly controlled geometry, then it converges to a flat metric in the volume preserving intrinsic flat sense, $L^{p}$ sense and the measured Gromov-Hausdorff sense.
The smallest $r$ so that a metric $r$-ball covers a metric space $M$ is called the radius of $M$. The volume of a metric $r$-ball in the space form of constant curvature $k$ is an upper bound for the volume of any Riemannian manifold with sectional curvature $\geq k$ and radius $\leq r$. We show that when such a manifold has volume almost equal to this upper bound, it is diffeomorphic to a sphere or a real projective space.
Cosymplectic geometry can be viewed as an odd dimensional counterpart of symplectic geometry. Likely in the symplectic case, a related property which is preservation of closed forms $ω$ and $η$, refers to the theoretical possibility of further understanding a cosymplectic manifold $(M, ω, η)$ from its group of diffeomorphisms. In this paper we study the structures of the group of cosymplectic diffeomorphisms and the group of almost cosymplectic diffeomorphisms of a cosymplectic manifold $(M, ω, η)$ in threefold:first of all, we study cosymplectics counterpart of the Moser isotopy method, a pro…
An almost Kähler structure is {\it extremal} if the Hermitian scalar curvature is a Killing potential [29]. When the almost complex structure is integrable it coincides with extremal Kähler metric in the sense of Calabi [8]. We observe that the existence of an extremal {\it toric} almost Kähler structure of involutive type implies uniform K-stability and we point out the existence of a formal solution of the Abreu equation for any angle along the invariant divisor. Applying the recent result of Chen--Cheng [10] and He [27], we conclude that the existence of a compatible extremal toric almost K…
To each non-isotropic almost-complex immersion of a 2-torus into $ S ^ 6 $ we associate an algebraic curve, called the spectral curve, and a linear flow in the intersection of two Prym varieties on this spectral curve. We show that generically the spectral curve is smooth and compute the dimension of the moduli space of such curves and of the torus in which the eigenline bundles lie.
In this article we reduce the geometric stability conjecture for the scalar torus rigidity theorem to the conformal case via the Yamabe problem. Then we are able to prove the case where a sequence of Riemannian manifolds is conformal to a uniformly controlled sequence of flat tori and satisfies the geometric stability conjecture. We are also able to handle the case where a sequence of Riemannian manifolds is conformal to a sequence of constant negative scalar curvature Riemannian manifolds which converge to a flat torus in $C^1$. The full conjecture from the conformal perspective is also discu…
By works of Schoen-Yau and Gromov-Lawson any Riemannian manifold with nonnegative scalar curvature and diffeomorphic to a torus is isometric to a flat torus. Gromov conjectured subconvergence of tori with respect to a weak Sobolev type metric when the scalar curvature goes to $0$. We prove flat and intrinsic flat subconvergence to a flat torus for noncollapsing sequences of $3$-dimensional tori $M_j$ that can be realized as graphs of certain functions defined over flat tori satisfying a uniform upper diameter bound and scalar curvature bounds of the form $R_{g_{M_j}} \geq -1/j$. We also show t…
We study the compactness of sequences of diffeomorphisms in almost complex manifolds in terms of the direct images of the standard integrable structure.
Normal forms of almost complex structures in a neighborhood of pseudoholomorphic curve are considered. We define normal bundles of such curves and study the properties of linear bundle almost complex structures. We describe 1-jet of the almost complex structure along a curve in terms of its Nijenhuis tensor. For pseudoholomorphic tori we investigate the problem of pseudoholomorphic foliation of the neighborhood. We obtain some results on nonexistence of the tori deformation.
We give a necessary and sufficient condition for the smooth extension of a diffeomorphism between smooth strictly pseudoconvex domains in four real dimensional almost complex manifolds. The proof is mainly based on a reflection principle for pseudoholomorphic discs, on precise estimates of the Kobayashi-Royden infinitesimal pseudometric and on the scaling method in almost complex manifolds.
This is a book aimed at graduate students and researchers in symplectic geometry, based on a course I taught in 2019. The primary message is that the base of a Lagrangian torus fibration inherits an integral affine structure, which you can use to "read off" a lot of interesting geometry of the total space. Topics covered include: action-angle coordinates, symplectic reduction, toric manifolds, visible and tropical Lagrangians, almost toric systems, Milnor fibres of cyclic quotient singularities, mutation of polygons, non-toric blow-up, an almost toric view on Lisca's classification of fillings…
The natural bundle $π:E\to M$ of almost-complex structures is considered. The action of the pseudogroup of all diffeomorphisms of $M$ on the total space $E$ is investigated. A nontrivial 1-st order differential invariant of this action is constructed. It is proved that the Nijenhuise tensor of an almost-complex structures is equal to zero iff the constructed invariant for this structure is zero.
