In the present paper, we obtain the basic Chen inequalities for submanifolds of quaternion Kaehler-like statistical manifolds. Also, we discuss the same inequality for Lagrangian submanifolds.
We call a quaternionic Kaehler manifold with non-zero scalar curvature, whose quaternionic structure is trivialized by a hypercomplex structure, a hyper-Hermitian quaternionic Kaehler manifold. We prove that every locally symmetric hyper-Hermitian quaternionic Kaehler manifold is locally isometric to the quaternionic projective space or to the quaternionic hyperbolic space. We describe locally the hyper-Hermitian quaternionic Kaehler manifolds with closed Lee form and show that the only complete simply connected such manifold is the quaternionic hyperbolic space.
In this paper we study 3-submersions from a QR-hypersurface of a quaternionic Kaehler manifold onto an almost quaternionic hermitian manifold. We also prove the non-existence of quaternionic submersions between quaternionic Kaehler manifolds which are not locally hyper-Kaehler.
The purpose of the present paper is to study the differential geometric properties of a quaternion CR-submanifold in a locally conformal quaternion Kaehler manifold.
Almost hypercomplex manifolds with Hermitian and Norden metrics and more specially the corresponding quaternionic Kaehler manifolds are considered. Some necessary and sufficient conditions the investigated manifolds be isotropic hyper-Kaehlerian and flat are found. It is proved that the quaternionic Kaehler manifolds with the considered metric structure are Einstein for dimension at least 8. The class of the non-hyper-Kaehler quaternionic Kaehler manifold of the considered type is determined.
Positive Quaternion Kaehler Manifolds are Riemannian manifolds with holonomy contained in Sp(n)Sp(1) and with positive scalar curvature. Conjecturally, they are symmetric spaces. We prove this conjecture in dimension 20 under additional assumptions and we provide recognition theorems for quaternionic projective spaces (in low dimensions) as well as the real Grassmanian (which is Positive Quaternion Kaehler).
In the present paper, we study the hemi-slant submanifolds of nearly Kaehler manifolds. We study the integrability of distributions involved in the definition of hemi-slant submanifolds. some results are worked out on totally umbilical hemi-slant submanifolds. we study the cohomology class for hemi-slant submanifolds of nearly Kaehler manifolds.
We study the moduli space of quaternionic Kaehler structures on a compact manifold of dimension 4n (n>2) from a point of view of Riemannian geometry, not twistor theory. Then we obtain a rigidity theorem for quaternionic Kaehler structures of nonzero scalar curvature by observing the moduli space.
We construct left invariant quaternionic contact (qc) structures on Lie groups with zero and non-zero torsion and with non-vanishing quaternionic contact conformal curvature tensor, thus showing the existence of non-flat quaternionic contact manifolds. We prove that the product of the real line with a seven dimensional manifold, equipped with a certain qc structure, has a quaternionic Kaehler metric as well as a metric with holonomy contained in Spin(7). As a consequence we determine explicit quaternionic Kaehler metrics and Spin(7)-holonomy metrics which seem to be new. Moreover, we give expl…
We consider $F: M \to N$ a minimal oriented compact real 2n-submanifold M, immersed into a Kaehler-Einstein manifold N of complex dimension 2n, and scalar curvature R. We assume that $n \geq 2$ and F has equal Kaehler angles. Our main result is to prove that, if n = 2 and $R \neq 0$, then F is either a complex submanifold or a Lagrangian submanifold. We also prove that, if $n \geq 3$ and F has no complex points, then: (A) If R < 0, then F is Lagrangian; (B) If R = 0, the Kaehler angle must be constant. We also study pluriminimal submanifolds with equal Kaehler angles, and prove that, if they a…
We construct a new family of compact orbifolds with a positive self dual Einstein metric and a one-dimensional group of isometries. Together with another known family, these examples classify all 4-dimensional orbifolds that are quaternion Kaehler quotients by a torus of real Grassmannians.
In this paper, authors have established Chen's inequalities for the submanifolds of quaternionic Kaehler manifolds characterized by Ricci quarter-symmetric metric connection. Other than these inequalities, we have also derived generalized normalized Casorati curvature inequalities for the same submanifolds.
By making use of the symplectic reduction and the cohomogeneity method, we give a general method for constructing Hamiltonian minimal submanifolds in Kaehler manifolds with symmetries. As applications, we construct infinitely many nontrivial complete Hamiltonian minimal submanifolds in CP^n and C^n.
B. Y. Chen established sharp inequalities between certain Riemannian invariants and the squared mean curvature for submanifolds in real space form as well as in complex space form. In this paper we generalize Chen inequalities for submanifolds of Bochner Kaehler manifolds. Moreover, we consider CR-warped product submanifolds of Bochner Kaehler manifold and establish an inequality for scalar curvature.
It is known that there exist no warped product semi-slant submanifolds in Kaehler manifolds \cite{Sahin}. Recently, Chen and Garay studied pointwise-slant submanifolds of almost Hermitian manifolds in \cite{CG} and obtained many new results for such submanifolds. In this paper, we first introduce pointwise semi-slant submanifolds of Kaehler manifolds and then we show that there exists non-trivial warped product pointwise semi-slant submanifolds of Kaehler manifold by giving an example, contrary to the semi-slant case. We present a characterization theorem and establish an inequality for the sq…
We prove that under certain conditions on the mean curvature and on the Kaehler angles, a compact submanifold M of real dimension 2n, immersed into a Kaehler-Einstein manifold N of complex dimension 2n, must be either a complex or a Lagrangian submanifold of N, or have constant Kaehler angle, depending on n=1, n=2, or n \geq 3, and the sign of the scalar curvature of N. These results generalize to non-minimal submanifolds some known results for minimal submanifolds. Our main tool is a Bochner-type technique involving a formula on the Laplacian of a symmetric function on the Kaehler angles and …
In this paper, we investigate Lagrangian submanifolds in the nearly Kaehler $S^3 \times S^3$. We construct a new example which is a at Lagrangian torus. We give a complete classification of all the Lagrangian immersions of spaces of constant sectional curvature in the nearly Kaehler $S^3\times S^3$.
We discuss a peculiar interplay between the representation theory of the holonomy group of a Riemannian manifold, the Weitzenboeck formula for the Hodge-Laplace operator on forms and the Lichnerowicz formula for twisted Dirac operators. For quaternionic Kaehler manifolds this leads to simple proofs of eigenvalue estimates for Dirac and Laplace operators. Moreover it enables us to determine which representations can contribute to harmonic forms. As a corollary we prove the vanishing of certain odd Betti numbers on compact quaternionic Kaehler manifolds of negative scalar curvature. We simplify …
In this paper, we prove that, if a full irreducible infinite dimensional anti-Kaehler isoparametric submanifold of codimension greater than one has $J$-diagonalizable shape operators, then it is homogeneous.
Non-existence of warped product semi-slant submanifolds of Kaehler manifolds was proved in [17], it is interesting to find their existence. In this paper, we prove the existence of warped product semi-slant submanifolds of nearly Kaehler manifolds by a characterization. To this end we obtain an inequality for the squared norm of second fundamental form in terms of the warping function and the slant angle. The equality case is also discussed.
We introduce a new class of lightlike submanifolds, namely, Screen Transversal Cauchy Riemann (STCR)-lightlike submanifolds, of indefinite Kaehler manifolds. We show that this new class is an umbrella of screen transversal lightlike, screen transversal totally real lightlike and CR-lightlike submanifolds. We give a few examples of a STCR lightlike submanifold, investigate the integrability of various distributions, obtain a characterization of such lightlike submanifolds in a complex space form and find new conditions for the induced connection to be a metric connection. Moreover, we investiga…
For a Legendrian submanifold $M$ of a Sasaki manifold $N$, we study harmonicity and biharmonicity of the corresponding Lagrangian cone submanifold C(M) of a Kaehler manifold C(N). We show that, if $C(M)$ is biharmonic in C(N), then it is harmonic; and $M$ is proper biharmonic in $N$ if and only if C(M) has a non-zero eigen-section of the Jacobi operator with the eigenvalue $m=dim M$.
Let $f\colon M^{2n}\to\mathbb{R}^{2n+\ell}$, $n \geq 5$, denote a conformal immersion into Euclidean space with codimension $\ell$ of a Kaehler manifold of complex dimension $n$ and free of flat points. For codimensions $\ell=1,2$ we show that such a submanifold can always be locally obtained in a rather simple way, namely, from an isometric immersion of the Kaehler manifold $M^{2n}$ into either $\mathbb{R}^{2n+1}$ or $\mathbb{R}^{2n+2}$, the latter being a class of submanifolds already extensively studied.
Warped product manifolds have been studied for a long period of time. In contrast, the study of warped product submanifolds from extrinsic point of view was initiated by the first author around the beginning of this century in [7, 8]. Since then the study of warped product submanifolds has been investigated by many geometers. The notion of slant submanifolds of almost Hermitian manifolds was introduced in [5]. Bi-slant submanifolds in almost contact metric manifolds were defined in [4] by J. L. Cabrerizo et al. In [26], we studied bi-slant submanifolds and warped product bi-slant submanifolds …
In the present paper, we introduce screen almost semi-invariant (SASI) lightlike submanifolds of indefinite Keahler manifolds. We obtain the neccesary and sufficient condition for the induced connection to be a metric connection on SASI-lightlike submanifolds and construct an example for this manifold. Also we find some conditions for integrability of distributions and investigate certain characterizations.
Let $M$ be a real $l$-dimensional minimal submanifold with flat normal connection in a kaehler product manifold $\overline{M}^m\times \overline{M}^n$ where $\overline{M}^m$ and $\overline{M}^n$ are complex $m$-dimensional and complex $n$-dimensional kaehler manifolds with constant holomorphic sectional curvature $c_1$ and $c_2$ respectively. We give a formula for the Laplacian of the second fundamental form of $M$. Specially we discuss the F-anti invariant case. We also give some applications of this formula.
We define broadly-pluriminimal immersed 2n-submanifold F: M --> N into a Kaehler-Einstein manifold of complex dimension 2n and scalar curvature R. We prove that, if M is compact, n \geq 2, and R < 0, then: (i) Either F has complex or Lagrangian directions; (ii) If n = 2, M is oriented, and F has no complex directions, then it is a Lagrangian submanifold, generalising the well-known case n = 1 for minimal surfaces due to Wolfson. We also prove that, if F has constant Kaehler angles with no complex directions, and is not Lagrangian, then R = 0 must hold. Our main tool is a formula on the Laplaci…
In this paper, we prove that, if a full irreducible infinite dimensional anti-Kaehler isoparametric submanifold of codimension greater than one has $J$-diagonalizable shape operators, then it is an orbit of the action of a Banach Lie group generated by one-parameter transformation groups induced by holomorphic Killing vector fields defined entirely on the ambient Hilbert space.
We show that generic rank conditions on the second fundamental form of an isometric immersion $f\colon M^{2n}\to\mathbb{R}^{2n+p}$ of a Kaehler manifold of complex dimension $n\geq 2$ into Euclidean space with low codimension $p$ implies that the submanifold has to be minimal. If $M^{2n}$ if simply connected, this amounts to the existence of a one-parameter associated family of isometric minimal immersions unless $f$ is holomorphic.
A hyperkaehler manifold with a circle action fixing just one complex structure admits a natural a hyperholomorphic line bundle. This forms the basis for the construction of a corresponding quaternionic Kaehler manifold in the work of A.Haydys. We construct in this paper the corresponding holomorphic line bundle on twistor space and compute many examples, including monopole and Higgs bundle moduli spaces. We also show that the bundle on twistor space has a natural meromorphic connection which realizes it as the quantum line bundle for the hyperkaehler family of holomorphic symplectic structures…
We present several local and global results on isometric immersions of Kaehler manifolds $M^{2n}$ into hyperbolic space $\Hy^{2n+p}$. For instance, a classification is given in the case of dimension $n\geq 4$ and codimension $p=2$. Moreover, as corollaries of general results, we conclude that there are no isometric immersion in codimension $p\leq n-2$ if the Kaehler manifold is of dimension $n\geq 4$ and either has a point of positive holomorphic sectional curvature or is compact.
We study bi-warped product submanifolds of nearly Kaehler manifolds which are the natural extension of warped products. We prove that every bi-warped product submanifold of the form $M=M_T\times_{f_1}\! M_\perp\times_{f_2}\! M_θ$ in a nearly Kaehler manifold satisfies the following sharp inequality: $$\|h\|^2\geq 2p\|\nabla (\ln f_1)\|^2+4q\left(1+{\small \frac{10}{9}}\cot^2θ\right)\|\nabla(\ln f_2)\|^2,$$ where $p=\dim M_\perp$, $q=\frac{1}{2}\dim M_θ$, and $f_1,\,f_2$ are smooth positive functions on $M_T$. We also investigate the equality case of this inequality. Further, some applications …
The warped product $N_1\times_f N_2$ of two Riemannian manifolds $(N_1,g_1)$ and $(N_2,g_2)$ is the product manifold $N_1\times N_2$ equipped with the warped product metric $g=g_1+f^2 g_2$, where $f$ is a positive function on $N_1$. Warped products play very important roles in differential geometry as well as in physics. A submanifold $M$ of a Kaehler manifold $\tilde M$ is called a $CR$-warped product if it is a warped product $M_T\times_f N_\perp$ of a complex submanifold $M_T$ and a totally real submanifold $M_\perp$ of $\tilde M$. In this article we survey recent results on warped product …
Given a Kaehler manifold of complex dimension 4, we consider submanifolds of (real) dimension 4, whose Kaehler angles coincide. We call these submanifolds Cayley. We investigate some of their basic properties, and prove that (a) if the ambient manifold is a Calabi-Yau, the minimal Cayley submanifolds are just the Cayley submanifolds as defined by Harvey and Lawson; (b) if the ambient is a Kaehler-Einstein manifold of non-zero scalar curvature, then minimal Cayley submanifolds have to be either complex or Lagrangian.
Let $f\colon M^{2n}\to\mathbb{R}^{2n+4}$ be an isometric immersion of a Kaehler manifold of complex dimension $n\geq 5$ into Euclidean space with complex rank at least $5$ everywhere. Our main result is that, along each connected component of an open dense subset of $M^{2n}$, either $f$ is holomorphic in $\mathbb{R}^{2n+4}\cong\mathbb{C}^{n+2}$ or it is in a unique way a composition $f=F\circ h$ of isometric immersions. In the latter case, we have that $h\colon M^{2n}\to N^{2n+2}$ is holomorphic and $F\colon N^{2n+2}\to\mathbb{R}^{2n+4}$ belongs to the class, by now quite well understood, of n…
We consider the Dirac operator on compact quaternionic Kaehler manifolds and prove a lower bound for the spectrum. This estimate is sharp since it is the first eigenvalue of the Dirac operator on the quaternionic projective space.
We review the general properties of target spaces of hypermultiplets, which are quaternionic-like manifolds, and discuss the relations between these manifolds and their symmetry generators. We explicitly construct a one-to-one map between conformal hypercomplex manifolds (i.e. those that have a closed homothetic Killing vector) and quaternionic manifolds of one quaternionic dimension less. An important role is played by 'ξ-transformations', relating complex structures on conformal hypercomplex manifolds and connections on quaternionic manifolds. In this map, the subclass of conformal hyper-Kae…
We investigate the local geometry of a class of Kähler submanifolds $M \subset \R^n$ which generalize surfaces of constant mean curvature. The role of the mean curvature vector is played by the $(1,1)$-part (i.e. the $dz_id\bar z_j$-components) of the second fundamental form $α$, which we call the pluri-mean curvature. We show that these Kähler submanifolds are characterized by the existence of an associated family of isometric submanifolds with rotated second fundamental form. Of particular interest is the isotropic case where this associated family is trivial. We also investigate the propert…
The properties of Kaehler submanifolds with recurrent the second fundamental form in spaces of constant holomorphic sectional curvature are being studied in this article.
Let M be a positive quaternionic Kaehler manifold of dimension 4m. If the isometry group Isom(M) has rank at least m/2 +3, then M is isometric to HP^m or Gr_2(C^{m+2}). The lower bound for the rank is optimal if m is even.
In generalized complex geometry, we revisit linear subspaces and submanifolds that have an induced generalized complex structure. We give an expression of the induced structure that allows us to deduce a smoothness criteria, we dualize the results to submersions and we make a few comments on generalized complex mappings. Then, we discuss submanifolds of generalized Kaehler manifolds that have an induced generalized Kaehler structure. These turn out to be the common invariant submanifolds of the two classical complex structures of the generalized Kaehler manifold.
In this paper we show that two Kähler manifolds which do not share a Kähler submanifold, do not share either a Levi degenerate CR-submanifold with constant dimension Levi kernel. In particular, they do not share a CR-product. Further, we obtain that a Levi degenerate CR-submanifold of $\mathbb C^n$ cannot be isometrically immersed into a flag manifold.
The authors obtained the classification theorem for Lagrangian H-umbilical submanifolds in quaternion Euclidean spaces using the idea of quaternion extensors.
In a previous paper we proved a lower bound for the spectrum of the Dirac operator on quaternionic Kaehler manifolds. In the present article we show that the only manifolds in the limit case, i.e. the only manifolds where the lower bound is attained as an eigenvalue, are the quaternionic projective spaces. We use the equivalent formulation in terms of the quaternionic Killing equation and show that a nontrivial solution defines a parallel spinor on the associated hyperkaehler manifold.
Given a minimal Lagrangian submanifold L in a negative Kaehler--Einstein manifold M, we show that any small Kaehler--Einstein perturbation of M induces a deformation of L which is minimal Lagrangian with respect to the new structure. This provides a new source of examples of minimal Lagrangians. More generally, the same is true for the larger class of totally real J-minimal submanifolds in Kaehler manifolds with negative definite Ricci curvature.
A quaternionic Kähler manifold M is called {\it positive} if it has positive scalar curvature. The main purpose of this paper is to prove several connectedness theorems for quaternionic immersions in a quaternionic Kähler manifold, e.g. the Barth-Lefschetz type connectedness theorem for quaternionic submanifolds in a positive quaternionic Kähler manifold. As applications we prove that, among others, a 4m-dimensional positive quaternionic Kähler manifold with symmetry rank at least (m-2) must be either isometric to \Bbb HP^m or Gr_2(\Bbb C^{m+2}), if m\ge 10.
Using the idea of special Legendre curves, the authors obtained the explicit description of flat Lagrangian H-umbilical submanifolds in quaternion Euclidean spaces.
BPS solutions of 5-dimensional supergravity correspond to certain gradient flows on the product M x N of a quaternionic-Kaehler manifold M of negative scalar curvature and a very special real manifold N of dimension n >=0. Such gradient flows are generated by the `energy function' f = P^2, where P is a (bundle-valued) moment map associated to n+1 Killing vector fields on M. We calculate the Hessian of f at critical points and derive some properties of its spectrum for general quaternionic-Kaehler manifolds. For the homogeneous quaternionic-Kaehler manifolds we prove more specific results depen…
In this paper we establish some inequalities concerning the $k$-Ricci curvature of a slant submanifold in a quaternionic space form. We also obtain obstructions to the existence of quaternionic slant immersions in quaternionic space forms with unfull first normal bundle.
A universal lower bound for the first positive eigenvalue of the Dirac operator on a compact quaternionic Kaehler manifold M of positive scalar curvature is calculated. It is shown that it is equal to the first positive eigenvalue on the quaternionic projective space. For this, the horizontal tangent bundle on the canonical SO(3)-bundle over M is equipped with a hyperkaehlerian structure and the corresponding splitting of the horizontal spinor bundle is considered. The desired estimate is obtained by looking at hyperkaehlerian twistor operators on horizontal spinors.
This paper consists of two main results. In the first one we describe all Kaehler immersions of a bounded symmetric domain into the infinite dimensional complex projective space in terms of the Wallach set of the domain. In the second one we exhibit an example of complete and non-homogeneous Kaehler-Einstein metric with negative scalar curvature which admits a Kaehler immersion into the infinite dimensional complex projective space.
