We define broadly-pluriminimal immersed 2n-submanifold F: M --> N into a Kaehler-Einstein manifold of complex dimension 2n and scalar curvature R. We prove that, if M is compact, n \geq 2, and R < 0, then: (i) Either F has complex or Lagrangian directions; (ii) If n = 2, M is oriented, and F has no complex directions, then it is a Lagrangian submanifold, generalising the well-known case n = 1 for minimal surfaces due to Wolfson. We also prove that, if F has constant Kaehler angles with no complex directions, and is not Lagrangian, then R = 0 must hold. Our main tool is a formula on the Laplacian of a symmetric function on the Kaehler angles.
In this note we prove a Weierstrass representation formula for pluriminimal submanifolds of euclidean spaces. We use this formula to produce new families of examples of pluriminimal submanifolds. We also prove that any affine algebraic manifold can be pluriminimally embedded into some euclidean space in a non holomorphic manner.
We consider $F: M \to N$ a minimal oriented compact real 2n-submanifold M, immersed into a Kaehler-Einstein manifold N of complex dimension 2n, and scalar curvature R. We assume that $n \geq 2$ and F has equal Kaehler angles. Our main result is to prove that, if n = 2 and $R \neq 0$, then F is either a complex submanifold or a Lagrangian submanifold. We also prove that, if $n \geq 3$ and F has no complex points, then: (A) If R < 0, then F is Lagrangian; (B) If R = 0, the Kaehler angle must be constant. We also study pluriminimal submanifolds with equal Kaehler angles, and prove that, if they a…
In the present paper, we study the hemi-slant submanifolds of nearly Kaehler manifolds. We study the integrability of distributions involved in the definition of hemi-slant submanifolds. some results are worked out on totally umbilical hemi-slant submanifolds. we study the cohomology class for hemi-slant submanifolds of nearly Kaehler manifolds.
In the present paper, we obtain the basic Chen inequalities for submanifolds of quaternion Kaehler-like statistical manifolds. Also, we discuss the same inequality for Lagrangian submanifolds.
By making use of the symplectic reduction and the cohomogeneity method, we give a general method for constructing Hamiltonian minimal submanifolds in Kaehler manifolds with symmetries. As applications, we construct infinitely many nontrivial complete Hamiltonian minimal submanifolds in CP^n and C^n.
B. Y. Chen established sharp inequalities between certain Riemannian invariants and the squared mean curvature for submanifolds in real space form as well as in complex space form. In this paper we generalize Chen inequalities for submanifolds of Bochner Kaehler manifolds. Moreover, we consider CR-warped product submanifolds of Bochner Kaehler manifold and establish an inequality for scalar curvature.
It is known that there exist no warped product semi-slant submanifolds in Kaehler manifolds \cite{Sahin}. Recently, Chen and Garay studied pointwise-slant submanifolds of almost Hermitian manifolds in \cite{CG} and obtained many new results for such submanifolds. In this paper, we first introduce pointwise semi-slant submanifolds of Kaehler manifolds and then we show that there exists non-trivial warped product pointwise semi-slant submanifolds of Kaehler manifold by giving an example, contrary to the semi-slant case. We present a characterization theorem and establish an inequality for the sq…
The purpose of the present paper is to study the differential geometric properties of a quaternion CR-submanifold in a locally conformal quaternion Kaehler manifold.
We prove that under certain conditions on the mean curvature and on the Kaehler angles, a compact submanifold M of real dimension 2n, immersed into a Kaehler-Einstein manifold N of complex dimension 2n, must be either a complex or a Lagrangian submanifold of N, or have constant Kaehler angle, depending on n=1, n=2, or n \geq 3, and the sign of the scalar curvature of N. These results generalize to non-minimal submanifolds some known results for minimal submanifolds. Our main tool is a Bochner-type technique involving a formula on the Laplacian of a symmetric function on the Kaehler angles and …
In this paper, we investigate Lagrangian submanifolds in the nearly Kaehler $S^3 \times S^3$. We construct a new example which is a at Lagrangian torus. We give a complete classification of all the Lagrangian immersions of spaces of constant sectional curvature in the nearly Kaehler $S^3\times S^3$.
In this paper, authors have established Chen's inequalities for the submanifolds of quaternionic Kaehler manifolds characterized by Ricci quarter-symmetric metric connection. Other than these inequalities, we have also derived generalized normalized Casorati curvature inequalities for the same submanifolds.
In this paper, we prove that, if a full irreducible infinite dimensional anti-Kaehler isoparametric submanifold of codimension greater than one has $J$-diagonalizable shape operators, then it is homogeneous.
Non-existence of warped product semi-slant submanifolds of Kaehler manifolds was proved in [17], it is interesting to find their existence. In this paper, we prove the existence of warped product semi-slant submanifolds of nearly Kaehler manifolds by a characterization. To this end we obtain an inequality for the squared norm of second fundamental form in terms of the warping function and the slant angle. The equality case is also discussed.
We introduce a new class of lightlike submanifolds, namely, Screen Transversal Cauchy Riemann (STCR)-lightlike submanifolds, of indefinite Kaehler manifolds. We show that this new class is an umbrella of screen transversal lightlike, screen transversal totally real lightlike and CR-lightlike submanifolds. We give a few examples of a STCR lightlike submanifold, investigate the integrability of various distributions, obtain a characterization of such lightlike submanifolds in a complex space form and find new conditions for the induced connection to be a metric connection. Moreover, we investiga…
For a Legendrian submanifold $M$ of a Sasaki manifold $N$, we study harmonicity and biharmonicity of the corresponding Lagrangian cone submanifold C(M) of a Kaehler manifold C(N). We show that, if $C(M)$ is biharmonic in C(N), then it is harmonic; and $M$ is proper biharmonic in $N$ if and only if C(M) has a non-zero eigen-section of the Jacobi operator with the eigenvalue $m=dim M$.
Let $f\colon M^{2n}\to\mathbb{R}^{2n+\ell}$, $n \geq 5$, denote a conformal immersion into Euclidean space with codimension $\ell$ of a Kaehler manifold of complex dimension $n$ and free of flat points. For codimensions $\ell=1,2$ we show that such a submanifold can always be locally obtained in a rather simple way, namely, from an isometric immersion of the Kaehler manifold $M^{2n}$ into either $\mathbb{R}^{2n+1}$ or $\mathbb{R}^{2n+2}$, the latter being a class of submanifolds already extensively studied.
Warped product manifolds have been studied for a long period of time. In contrast, the study of warped product submanifolds from extrinsic point of view was initiated by the first author around the beginning of this century in [7, 8]. Since then the study of warped product submanifolds has been investigated by many geometers. The notion of slant submanifolds of almost Hermitian manifolds was introduced in [5]. Bi-slant submanifolds in almost contact metric manifolds were defined in [4] by J. L. Cabrerizo et al. In [26], we studied bi-slant submanifolds and warped product bi-slant submanifolds …
In the present paper, we introduce screen almost semi-invariant (SASI) lightlike submanifolds of indefinite Keahler manifolds. We obtain the neccesary and sufficient condition for the induced connection to be a metric connection on SASI-lightlike submanifolds and construct an example for this manifold. Also we find some conditions for integrability of distributions and investigate certain characterizations.
Let $M$ be a real $l$-dimensional minimal submanifold with flat normal connection in a kaehler product manifold $\overline{M}^m\times \overline{M}^n$ where $\overline{M}^m$ and $\overline{M}^n$ are complex $m$-dimensional and complex $n$-dimensional kaehler manifolds with constant holomorphic sectional curvature $c_1$ and $c_2$ respectively. We give a formula for the Laplacian of the second fundamental form of $M$. Specially we discuss the F-anti invariant case. We also give some applications of this formula.
In this paper, we prove that, if a full irreducible infinite dimensional anti-Kaehler isoparametric submanifold of codimension greater than one has $J$-diagonalizable shape operators, then it is an orbit of the action of a Banach Lie group generated by one-parameter transformation groups induced by holomorphic Killing vector fields defined entirely on the ambient Hilbert space.
We show that generic rank conditions on the second fundamental form of an isometric immersion $f\colon M^{2n}\to\mathbb{R}^{2n+p}$ of a Kaehler manifold of complex dimension $n\geq 2$ into Euclidean space with low codimension $p$ implies that the submanifold has to be minimal. If $M^{2n}$ if simply connected, this amounts to the existence of a one-parameter associated family of isometric minimal immersions unless $f$ is holomorphic.
We present several local and global results on isometric immersions of Kaehler manifolds $M^{2n}$ into hyperbolic space $\Hy^{2n+p}$. For instance, a classification is given in the case of dimension $n\geq 4$ and codimension $p=2$. Moreover, as corollaries of general results, we conclude that there are no isometric immersion in codimension $p\leq n-2$ if the Kaehler manifold is of dimension $n\geq 4$ and either has a point of positive holomorphic sectional curvature or is compact.
We study bi-warped product submanifolds of nearly Kaehler manifolds which are the natural extension of warped products. We prove that every bi-warped product submanifold of the form $M=M_T\times_{f_1}\! M_\perp\times_{f_2}\! M_θ$ in a nearly Kaehler manifold satisfies the following sharp inequality: $$\|h\|^2\geq 2p\|\nabla (\ln f_1)\|^2+4q\left(1+{\small \frac{10}{9}}\cot^2θ\right)\|\nabla(\ln f_2)\|^2,$$ where $p=\dim M_\perp$, $q=\frac{1}{2}\dim M_θ$, and $f_1,\,f_2$ are smooth positive functions on $M_T$. We also investigate the equality case of this inequality. Further, some applications …
The warped product $N_1\times_f N_2$ of two Riemannian manifolds $(N_1,g_1)$ and $(N_2,g_2)$ is the product manifold $N_1\times N_2$ equipped with the warped product metric $g=g_1+f^2 g_2$, where $f$ is a positive function on $N_1$. Warped products play very important roles in differential geometry as well as in physics. A submanifold $M$ of a Kaehler manifold $\tilde M$ is called a $CR$-warped product if it is a warped product $M_T\times_f N_\perp$ of a complex submanifold $M_T$ and a totally real submanifold $M_\perp$ of $\tilde M$. In this article we survey recent results on warped product …
Given a Kaehler manifold of complex dimension 4, we consider submanifolds of (real) dimension 4, whose Kaehler angles coincide. We call these submanifolds Cayley. We investigate some of their basic properties, and prove that (a) if the ambient manifold is a Calabi-Yau, the minimal Cayley submanifolds are just the Cayley submanifolds as defined by Harvey and Lawson; (b) if the ambient is a Kaehler-Einstein manifold of non-zero scalar curvature, then minimal Cayley submanifolds have to be either complex or Lagrangian.
Let $f\colon M^{2n}\to\mathbb{R}^{2n+4}$ be an isometric immersion of a Kaehler manifold of complex dimension $n\geq 5$ into Euclidean space with complex rank at least $5$ everywhere. Our main result is that, along each connected component of an open dense subset of $M^{2n}$, either $f$ is holomorphic in $\mathbb{R}^{2n+4}\cong\mathbb{C}^{n+2}$ or it is in a unique way a composition $f=F\circ h$ of isometric immersions. In the latter case, we have that $h\colon M^{2n}\to N^{2n+2}$ is holomorphic and $F\colon N^{2n+2}\to\mathbb{R}^{2n+4}$ belongs to the class, by now quite well understood, of n…
We investigate the local geometry of a class of Kähler submanifolds $M \subset \R^n$ which generalize surfaces of constant mean curvature. The role of the mean curvature vector is played by the $(1,1)$-part (i.e. the $dz_id\bar z_j$-components) of the second fundamental form $α$, which we call the pluri-mean curvature. We show that these Kähler submanifolds are characterized by the existence of an associated family of isometric submanifolds with rotated second fundamental form. Of particular interest is the isotropic case where this associated family is trivial. We also investigate the propert…
In generalized complex geometry, we revisit linear subspaces and submanifolds that have an induced generalized complex structure. We give an expression of the induced structure that allows us to deduce a smoothness criteria, we dualize the results to submersions and we make a few comments on generalized complex mappings. Then, we discuss submanifolds of generalized Kaehler manifolds that have an induced generalized Kaehler structure. These turn out to be the common invariant submanifolds of the two classical complex structures of the generalized Kaehler manifold.
In this paper we show that two Kähler manifolds which do not share a Kähler submanifold, do not share either a Levi degenerate CR-submanifold with constant dimension Levi kernel. In particular, they do not share a CR-product. Further, we obtain that a Levi degenerate CR-submanifold of $\mathbb C^n$ cannot be isometrically immersed into a flag manifold.
Given a minimal Lagrangian submanifold L in a negative Kaehler--Einstein manifold M, we show that any small Kaehler--Einstein perturbation of M induces a deformation of L which is minimal Lagrangian with respect to the new structure. This provides a new source of examples of minimal Lagrangians. More generally, the same is true for the larger class of totally real J-minimal submanifolds in Kaehler manifolds with negative definite Ricci curvature.
The properties of Kaehler submanifolds with recurrent the second fundamental form in spaces of constant holomorphic sectional curvature are being studied in this article.
Warped product CR-submanifolds in Kaehlerian manifolds were intensively studied only since 2001 after the impulse given by B.Y. Chen. Immediately after, another line of research, similar to that concerning Sasakian geometry as the odd dimensional version of Kaehlerian geometry, was developed, namely warped product contact CR-submanifolds in Sasakian manifolds. In this note we proved that there exists no proper doubly warped product contact CR-submanifolds in trans-Sasakian manifolds.
Concerning the problem of classifying complete submanifolds of Euclidean space with codimension two admitting genuine isometric deformations, until now the only known examples with the maximal possible rank four are the real Kaehler minimal submanifolds classified by Dajczer-Gromoll \cite{dg3} in parametric form. These submanifolds behave like minimal surfaces, namely, if simple connected either they admit a nontrivial one-parameter associated family of isometric deformations or are holomorphic. In this paper, we characterize a new class of complete minimal genuinely deformable Euclidean subma…
This paper consists of two main results. In the first one we describe all Kaehler immersions of a bounded symmetric domain into the infinite dimensional complex projective space in terms of the Wallach set of the domain. In the second one we exhibit an example of complete and non-homogeneous Kaehler-Einstein metric with negative scalar curvature which admits a Kaehler immersion into the infinite dimensional complex projective space.
Austere submanifolds of Euclidean space were introduced in 1982 by Harvey and Lawson in their foundational work on calibrated geometries. In general, the austerity condition is much stronger than minimality since it express that the nonzero eigenvalues of the shape operator of the submanifold appear in opposite pairs for any normal vector at any point. Thereafter, the challenging task of finding non-trivial explicit examples, other than minimal immersions of Kaehler manifolds, only turned out submanifolds of rank two, and these are of limited interest in the sense that in this special situatio…
We study and classify almost complex totally geodesic submanifolds of the nearly Kaehler flag manifold $F_{1,2}(\mathbb C^3)$, and of its semi-Riemannian counterpart. We also develop a structural approach to the nearly Kaehler flag manifold $F_{1,2}(\mathbb C^3)$, expressing for example the curvature tensor in terms of the nearly Kaehler structure $J$ and the three canonical orthogonal complex structures.
Let $M$ be a projective toric manifold. We prove two results concerning respectively Kaehler-Einstein submanifolds of M and symplectic embeddings of the standard euclidean ball in M. Both results use the well-known fact that M contains an open dense subset biholomorphic to C^n.
We prove an extension of a theorem of A.Ros on a characterization of seven compact Kaehler submanifolds by holomorphic pinching to certain submanifolds of the complex Grassmannian manifolds.
In this paper, we study the geometry of pointwise semi-slant warped products in a locally conformal Kaehler manifold. In particular, we obtain several results which extend Chen's inequality for CR-warped product submanifolds in Kaehler manifolds. Also, we study the corresponding equality cases. Several related results on pointwise semi-slant warped products are also proved in this paper.
A Hamiltonian stationary Lagrangian submanifold of a Kaehler manifold is a Lagrangian submanifold whose volume is stationary under Hamiltonian variations. We find a sufficient condition on the curvature of a Kaehler manifold of real dimension four that guarantees the existence of a family of small Hamiltonian stationary Lagrangian tori.
Recently, we have shown that there do not exist the warped product semi-slant submanifolds of cosymplectic manifolds [10]. As nearly cosymplectic structure generalizes cosymplectic ones same as nearly Kaehler generalizes Kaehler structure in almost Hermitian setting. It is interesting that the warped product semi-slant submanifolds exist in nearly cosymplectic case while in case of cosymplectic do not exist. In the beginning, we prove some preparatory results and finally we obtain an inequality such as $\|h\|^2 \geq 4q\csc^2θ\{1+\frac{1}{9}\cos^2θ\}\|\nabla \ln f\|^2$ in terms of intrinsic and…
n this paper, we obtain a geometric inequality between the length of the second fundamental form and the length of Lee form in terms of the warping function for a CR-warped product submanifold in a locally conformal Kaehler space form. The equality case is also investigated. Furthermore, the inequality is discussed for the important subclass of locally conformal Kaehler manifolds i.e., Vaisman manifold.
In this paper we introduce paraquaternionic CR-submanifolds of almost paraquaternionic hermitian manifolds and state some basic results on their differential geometry. We also study a class of semi-Riemannian submersions from paraquaternionic CR-submanifolds of paraquaternionic Kaehler manifolds.
In this article, we construct a new para-Kähler structure $({\mathcal G},{\mathcal J},Ω)$ in the space of oriented geodesics ${\mathbb L}(M)$ in a non-flat, real space form $M$. We first show that the para-Kähler metric ${\mathcal G}$ is scalar flat and when $M$ is a 3-dimensional real space form, ${\mathcal G}$ is locally conformally flat. Furthermore, we prove that the space of oriented geodesics in hyperbolic $n$-space, equipped with the constructed metric ${\mathcal G}$, is minimally isometric embedded in the tangent bundle of the hyperbolic $n$-space. We then study the submanifold theory,…
Our main results are: (1) The complex a Lagrangian points of a non-complex Lagrangian $2n$-dimensional submanifold $F:M\ra N$, immersed with parallel mean curvature and with equal Kaehler angles into a Kaehler-Einstein manifold $(N,J,g)$ of complex dimension $2n$, are zeros of finite order of $\sin^2θ$ and $\cos^2θ$ respectively, where $θ$ is the common $J$-Kaelher angle. (2) If $M$ is a Cayley submanifold of a Calabi-Yau (CY) manifold $N$ of complex dimension 4, then $\bigwedge^2_+NM$ is naturally isomorphic to $\bigwedge^2_+TM$. (3) If $N$ is Ricci-flat (not necessarily CY) and $M$ is a Cayl…
In this paper, we study a slant submanifold of a complex space form. We also obtain an integral formula of Simons' type for a Kaehlerian slant submanifold in a complex space form and apply it to prove our main result.
In this paper, we initiate the study of $\p R$-warped products in para-Kähler manifolds and prove some fundamental results on such submanifolds. In particular, we establish a general optimal inequality for $\p R$-warped products in para-Kähler manifolds involving only the warping function and the second fundamental form. Moreover, we completely classify $\p R$-warped products in the flat para-Kähler manifold with least codimension which satisfy the equality case of the inequality.
It is proved that the moduli space of all connected compact orientable embedded minimal affine Lagrangian submanifolds of a complex equiaffine space constitutes an infinite dimensional Frechet manifold (if it is not the empty set). The moduli space of all connected compact orientable metric Lagrangian embedded surfaces in an almost Kaehler 4-dimensional manifold forms an infinite dimensional Frechet manifold (if it is not the empty set).
In this paper, we first define the complexification of a real analytic map between real analytic Koszul manifolds and show that the complexified map is the holomorphic extension of the original map. Next we define an anti-Kaehler metric compatible with the adapted complex structure on the complexification of a real analytic pseudo-Riemannian manifold. In particular, for a pseudo-Riemannian homogeneous space, we define another complexification and a (complete) anti-Kaehler metric on the complexification. One of main purposes of this paper is to find the interesting relation between these two co…
This article sets out to serve a dual purpose. On the one hand, we give an explicit description of the Lagrangian submanifolds of the nearly Kaehler 6-sphere which are ruled by circles of constant radius using Weierstrass formulae. On the other, we recognise all previous known examples of these Lagrangians as being ruled by such circles. Therefore, we describe all families of Lagrangians in the 6-sphere whose second fundamental form satisfies natural pointwise conditions: so-called second order families.
We study the Dirichlet problem for complex Monge-Ampere equations in Hermitian manifolds with general (non-pseudoconvex) boundary. Our main result extends the classical theorem of Caffarelli, Kohn, Nirenberg and Spruck in the flat case. We also consider the equation on compact manifolds without boundary, attempting to generalize Yau's theorems in the Kaehler case. As applications of the main result we study some connections between the homogeneous complex Monge-Ampere ({\em HCMA}) equation and totally real submanifolds, and a special Dirichlet problem for the HCMA equation related to Donaldson…
