An exact uncertainty principle, formulated as the assumption that a classical ensemble is subject to random momentum fluctuations of a strength which is determined by and scales inversely with uncertainty in position, leads from the classical equations of motion to the Schrodinger equation. Thus there is an exact formulation of the uncertainty principle which precisely captures the essence of what is "quantum" about quantum mechanics.
In the present article, we discuss one of the basic relations of Quantum Mechanics - the Uncertainty Relation (UR). In 1930, few years after Heisenberg, Erwin Schrodinger generalized the famous Uncertainty Relation in Quantum Mechanics, making it more precise than the original. The present study discusses recent generalizations of Schrodinger's work and explains why his paper remains almost forgotten in the last century.
Uncertainty relation is one of the fundamental building blocks of quantum theory. Nevertheless, the traditional uncertainty relations do not fully capture the concept of incompatible observables. Here we present a stronger Schrödinger-like uncertainty relation, which is stronger than the relation recently derived by L. Maccone and A. K. Pati [Phys. Rev. Lett. 113 (2014) 260401]. Furthermore, we give an additive uncertainty relation which holds for three incompatible observables, which is stronger than the relation newly obtained by S. Kechrimparis and S. Weigert [Phys. Rev. A 90 (2014) 062118]…
We show in this paper that the basic representations of position and momentum in a quantum mechanical system, that are guided by a generalized uncertainty principle and lead to a corresponding one-parameter eigenvalue problem, can be interpreted in terms of an extended Schrodinger equation embodying momentum-dependent mass. Some simple consequences are pointed out.
The original Schrodinger's paper is translated and annotated in honour of the 70-th anniversary of his Uncertainty Relation [published also in: Bulg. Journal of Physics,vol.26,no.5/6 (1999) pp.193-203]. In the annotation it is shown that the Uncertainty Relation can be written in a complete compact canonical form.
It is explicitly shown that there exist physical states (normalized to 1) in which the Robertson- Schrödinger and Heisenberg uncertainty relations are invalid, namely, the mean values of the physical operators are infinite. Consequently, these relations cannot imply a general physical principle. The explanation by the theory of functional analysis is given : for these states even the definition of the uncertainty notion through the dispersion notion in the probability theory is irrelevant.
We consider quantum steering by non-Gaussian entangled states. The Reid steering criterion based on the Heisenberg uncertainty relation fails to detect steerability for many categories of such states. Here, we derive a tighter steering criterion using the Robertson-Schrödinger uncertainty relation. We show that our steering condition is able to detect steerability of several classes of non-Gaussian states such as entangled eigenstates of the two-dimensional harmonic oscillator, the photon subtracted squeezed vacuum state and the NOON state.
Inspired by the generalized uncertainty principle (GUP), which adds gravitational effects to the standard description of quantum uncertainty, we extend the exact uncertainty principle (EUP) approach by Hall and Reginatto [J. Phys. A: Math. Gen. (2002) 35 3289], and obtain a (quasi)nonlinear Schrödinger equation. This quantum evolution equation of unusual form, enjoys several desired properties like separation of non-interacting subsystems or planewave solutions for free particles. Starting with the harmonic oscillator example, we show that every solution of this equation respects the gravitati…
Resonance (quasinormal) states correspond to non-Hermitian solutions to the Schrödinger equation obeying outgoing boundary conditions which lead to complex energy eigenvalues and momenta. Following the normalization rule for resonance states obtained from the residue at a complex pole of the outgoing Green's function to the problem, we propose a definition of expectation value for these states and use it to investigate the extent of validity of the Heisenberg uncertainty relations for potentials that vanish after a distance. We derive analytical expressions for the expectation values involving…
A more general measurement disturbance uncertainty principle is presented in a Robertson-Schrödinger formulation. It is shown that it is stronger and having nicer properties than Ozawa's uncertainty relations. In particular is invariant under symplectic transformations. One shows also that there are states of the probe (measuring device) that saturate the matrix formulation of measurement disturbance uncertainty principle.
One of the advantages of a reconstruction of quantum mechanics based on transparent physical axioms is that it may offer insight to naturally generalize quantum mechanics by relaxing the axioms. Here, we discuss possible extensions of quantum mechanics within a general epistemic framework based on an operational scheme of estimation of momentum given positions under epistemic restriction. The epistemic restriction is parameterized by a global-nonseparable random variable on the order of Planck constant, an ontic extension to the separable classical phase space variables. Within the estimation …

Effective mass Schrodinger equation is solved exactly for a given potential. Nikiforov-Uvarov method is used to obtain energy eigenvalues and the corresponding wave functions. A free parameter is used in the transformation of the wave function. The effective mass Schrodinger equation is also solved for the Morse potential transforming to the constant mass Schrödinger equation for a potential. One can also get solution of the effective mass Schrodinger equation starting from the constant mass Schrodinger equation.
Exact boundary conditions at finite distance for the solutions of the time-dependent Schrodinger equation are derived. A numerical scheme based on Crank-Nicholson method is proposed to illustrate its applicability in several examples.
We deal with the exact solutions of Schrodinger equation characterized by position-dependent effective mass via point canonical transformations. The Morse, Poschl-Teller and Hulthen type potentials are considered respectively. With the choice of position-dependent mass forms, exactly solvable target potentials are constructed. Their energy of the bound states and corresponding wavefunctions are determined exactly.

A general form of the effective mass Schrodinger equation is solved exactly for Hulthen potential. Nikiforov-Uvarov method is used to obtain energy eigenvalues and the corresponding wave functions. A free parameter is used in the transformation of the wave function.
The Schrödinger equation with the central potential is first studied in the arbitrary dimensional spaces and obtained an analogy of the two-dimensional Schrödinger equation for the radial wave function through a simple transformation. As an example, applying an ${\it ansatz}$ to the eigenfunctions, we then arrive at an exact closed form solution to the modified two-dimensional Schrödinger equation with the octic potential, $V(r)=ar^2-br^4+cr^6-dr^4+er^{10}$.
By using an ansatz for the eigenfunction, we have obtained the exact analytical solutions of the radial Schrodinger equation for the pseudoharmonic and Kratzer potentials in two dimensions. The energy levels of all the bound states are easily calculated from this eigenfunction ansatz. The normalized wavefunctions are also obtained.
Exact solutions of Schrodinger equation for PT-/non-PT-symmetric and non-Hermitian Morse and Poschl-Teller potentials are obtained with the position-dependent effective mass by applying a point canonical transformation method. Three kinds of mass distributions are used in order to construct exactly solvable target potentials and obtain energy spectrum and corresponding wave functions.
We employ the point canonical transformation (PCT) to solve the D-dimensional Schrödinger equation with position-dependent effective mass (PDEM) function for two molecular pseudoharmonic and modified Kratzer (Mie-type) potentials. In mapping the transformed exactly solvable D-dimensional ($D\geq 2$) Schrödinger equation with constant mass into the effective mass equation by employing a proper transformation, the exact bound state solutions including the energy eigenvalues and corresponding wave functions are derived. The well-known pseudoharmonic and modified Kratzer exact eigenstates of vario…
Exact bound state solutions of the Schrodinger equation for generalized noncentral potential are examined by means of the Nikiforov-Uvarov method. The wavefunctions and the corresponding energy eigenvalues of the system are obtained analytically. The results examined for the potential are compatible with those obtained by the other methods.
The aim of this paper is to find the exact solutions of the Schrodinger equation. As is known, the Schrodinger equation can be reduced to the continuum equation. In this paper, using the non-linear Legendre transform the equation of continuity is linearized. Particular solutions of such a linear equation are found in the paper and an inverse Legendre transform is considered for them with subsequent construction of solutions of the Schrodinger equation. Examples of the classical and quantum systems are considered.
Exact solution of Schrodinger equation for the pseudoharmonic potential is obtained for an arbitrary angular momentum. The energy eigenvalues and corresponding eigenfunctions are calculated by Nikiforov-Uvarov method. Wavefunctions are expressed in terms of Jacobi polynomials. The energy eigenvalues are calculated numerically for some values of l and n with n<5 for some diatomic molecules.
Utilizing an ${\it ansatz}$ for the eigenfunctions, we arrive at an exact closed form solution to the Schrödinger equation with the inverse-power potential, $V(r)=ar^{-4}+br^{-3}+cr^{-2}+dr^{-1}$ in two dimensions, where the parameters of the potential $a, b, c, d$ satisfy a constraint.

In the recent paper, Ref. 1, the l-waves Schrödinger equation for the Cornell's potential is solved in quantum mechanics with a generalized uncertainty principle by following Ref. 2. It is showed here that the approach of Ref. 2 can only be used for the s-waves, and then the solution given in Ref. 1 would be true only in the special case l=0. Furthermore, it is highlighted that the abstract and the conclusion of Ref. 1 do not accurately reflect the results of the paper.
By applying an ansatz to the eigenfunction, an exact closed form solution of the Schrödinger equation in 2D is obtained with the potentials, $V(r)=ar^2+br^4+cr^6$, $V(r)=ar+br^2+cr^{-1}$ and $V(r)=ar^2+br^{-2}+cr^{-4}+dr^{-6}$, respectively. The restrictions on the parameters of the given potential and the angular momentum $m$ are obtained.
Making use of an ${\it ansatz}$ for the eigenfunctions, we obtain an exact closed form solution to the non-relativistic Schrödinger equation with the anharmonic potential, $V(r)=a r^2+b r^{-4}+c r^{-6}$ in two dimensions, where the parameters of the potential $a, b, c$ satisfy some constraints.
We introduce an exactly integrable singular potential for which the solution of the one-dimensional stationary Schrödinger equation is written through irreducible linear combinations of the Gauss hypergeometric functions. The potential, which belongs to a general Heun family, is a short-range one that behaves as the inverse square root in the vicinity of the origin and vanishes exponentially at the infinity. We derive the exact spectrum equation for the energy and discuss the bound states supported by the potential.
The polynomial solution of the Schrodinger equation for the Pseudoharmonic potential is found for any arbitrary angular momentum $l$. The exact bound-state energy eigenvalues and the corresponding eigen functions are analytically calculated. The energy states for several diatomic molecular systems are calculated numerically for various principal and angular quantum numbers. By a proper transformation, this problem is also solved very simply by using the known eigensolutions of anharmonic oscillator potential.
We introduce two potentials explicitly given by the Lambert-W function for which the exact solution of the one-dimensional stationary Schrödinger equation is written through the first derivative of a double-confluent Heun function. One of these potentials is a singular potential that behaves as the inverse square root in the vicinity of the origin and vanishes exponentially at the infinity. The exact solution of the Schrödinger equation for this potential is given through fundamental solutions each of which presents an irreducible linear combination of two confluent hypergeometric functions. S…
Exact solutions of the Schrodinger equation are obtained for the Rosen-Morse and Scarf potentials with the position-dependent effective mass by appliying a general point canonical transformation. The general form of the point canonical transformation is introduced by using a free parameter. Two different forms of mass distributions are used. A set of the energy eigenvalues of the bound states and corresponding wave functions for target potentials are obtained as a function of the free parameter.
The general solutions of Schrodinger equation for non central potential are obtained by using Nikiforov Uvarov method. The Schrodinger equation with general non central potential is separated into radial and angular parts and energy eigenvalues and eigenfunctions for these potentials are derived analytically. Non central potential is reduced to Coulomb and Hartmann potential by making special selections, and the obtained solutions are compared with the solutions of Coulomb and Hartmann ring shaped potentials given in literature.
We investigate properties of the covariance matrix in the framework of non-commutative quantum mechanics for an one-parameter family of transformations between the familiar Heisenberg-Weyl algebra and a particular extension of it. Employing as a measure of the Robertson-Schrödinger uncertainty principle the linear symplectic capacity of the Weyl ellipsoid (and its dual), we determine its corresponding bounds. Inequalities between the capacities for non-commutative phase-spaces are established. We also present a constructive example based on a simple model to justify our theoretical predictions…
We outline a general method for obtaining exact solutions of Schrödinger equations with a position dependent effective mass and compare the results with those obtained within the frame of supersymmetric quantum theory. We observe that the distinct effective mass Hamiltonians proposed in the literature in fact describe exactly equivalent systems having identical spectra and wave functions as far as exact solvability is concerned. This observation clarifies the Hamiltonian dependence of the band-offset ratio for quantum wells.
A prescription is given to obtain some exact results for certain external potentials $V\left({\vec r}\right)$ of the time-independent Gross-Pitaevskii and Schrödinger equations. The study motivation is the ability to program $V\left({\vec r}\right)$ experimentally in Bose-Einstein condensates. Rather than derive wavefunctions that are solutions for a given $V\left({\vec r}\right)$, we ask which $V\left({\vec r}\right)$ will have a given pdf (probability density function) $P\left({\vec r}\right)$. Several examples in 1D and 2D are presented for well-known pdfs and for the hydrogen atom in momen…
We present analytically the exact energy bound-states solutions of the Schrodinger equation in D-dimensions for a recently proposed modified Kratzer potential plus ring-shaped potential by means of the conventional Nikiforov-Uvarov method. We give a clear recipe of how to obtain an explicit solution to the wave functions in terms of orthogonal polynomials. The results obtained in this work are more general and true for any dimension which can be reduced to the standard forms in three-dimensions given by other works.
We consider the radial Schr\" odinger equation with the pseudo-Gaussian potential. By making an ansatz to the solution of the eigenvalue equation for the associate Hamiltonian, we arrive at the general exact eigenfunction. The values of energy levels for the bound states are calculated along with their corresponding normalized wave-functions. The case of positive energy levels, known as meta-stable states, is also discussed and the magnitude of transmission coefficient through the potential barrier is evaluated.
In order to know if the Schrodinger's cat is alive or dead without opening the box, observers have to play a game with nature. The observers have to "guess" (with degrees of belief) the state of the cat due to incomplete information; in other words, the observers' decision has to be made under uncertainty. We propose a quantum expected value theory for decision-making under uncertainty. Value operator is proposed to guide observers to choose corresponding actions based on their subjective beliefs through objective quantum world by maximizing the value from the measured historical results. The Darboux transformation operator technique in differential and integral forms is applied to the generalized Schrodinger equation with a position-dependent effective mass and with linearly energy-dependent potentials. Intertwining operators are obtained in an explicit form and used for constructing generalized Darboux transformations of an arbitrary order. A relation between supersymmetry and the generalized Darboux transformation is considered. The method is applied to generation of isospectral potentials with additional or removal bound states or construction of new partner potentials with…
The second order N-dimensional Schrodinger equation with Mie-type potentials is reduced to a first order differential equation by using the Laplace transformation. Exact bound state solutions are obtained using convolution or Faltungs theorem. The Ladder operators are also constructed for the Mie-type potentials in N- dimensions. Lie algebra associated with these operators are studied and it is found that they satisfy the commutation relations for the SU(1,1) group.
Using the coordinate transformation method, we solve the one-dimensional Schrödinger equation with position-dependent mass(PDM). The explicit expressions for the potentials, energy eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of the systems are given. The eigenfunctions can be expressed in terms of the Jacobi, Hemite and generalized Laguerre polynomials. All potentials for these solvable systems have an extra term $V_m$ which produced from the dependence of mass on the coordinate, compared with that for the systems of constant mass. The properties of $V_m$ for several mass functions are discussed.
We show that the exact discrete analogue of Schrödinger equation can be derived naturally from the Hamiltonian operator of a Schrödinger field theory by using the discrete Fourier transform that transforms the operator from momentum representation into position representation. The standard central difference equation that is often used as the discretized Schrödinger equation actually describes a different theory since it is derived from a different Hamiltonian operator. The commutator relation between the position and momentum operators in discrete space is also derived and found to be differe…
We present analytically the exact energy bound-states solutions of the Schrodinger equation in $D$-dimensions for a pseudoharmonic potential plus ring-shaped potential of the form $V(r,θ)=D_{e}(\frac{r}{% r_{e}}-\frac{r_{e}}{r}) ^{2}+\frac{β\cos ^{2}θ}{r^{2}\sin ^{2}θ}$ by means of the conventional Nikiforov-Uvarov method. We also give a clear recipe of how to obtain an explicit solution to the radial and angular parts of the wave functions in terms of orthogonal polynomials. The total energy of the system is different from the pseudoharmonic potential because of the contribution of the angula…

We give a clear recipe of how to obtain an explicit solution to the radial and angular parts of the wave functions in terms of orthogonal polynomials. The total energy of the system is different from the pseudo-Coulomb potential because of the contribution of the a…
Using an isomorphism between Hilbert spaces $L^2$ and $\ell^{2}$ we consider Hamiltonians which have tridiagonal matrix representations (Jacobi matrices) in a discrete basis and an eigenvalue problem is reduced to solving a three term difference equation. Technique of intertwining operators is applied to creating new families of exactly solvable Jacobi matrices. It is shown that any thus obtained Jacobi matrix gives rise to a new exactly solvable non-local potential of the Schroedinger equation. We also show that the algebraic structure underlying our approach corresponds to supersymmetry. Sup…
Analytical solutions to the time-dependent Shrödinger equation in one dimension are developed for time-independent potentials, one consisting of an infinite wall and a repulsive delta function. An exact solution is obtained by means of a convolution of time-independent solutions spanning the given Hilbert space with appropriately chosen spectral functions. Square-integrability and the boundary conditions are satisfied. The probability for the particle to be found inside the potential well is calculated and shown to exhibit non-exponential decay decreasing at large times as $t^{-3}$. The result…
The Schrödinger equation is solved exactly for some well known potentials. Solutions are obtained reducing the Schrödinger equation into a second order differential equation by using an appropriate coordinate transformation. The Nikiforov-Uvarov method is used in the calculations to get energy eigenvalues and the corresponding wave functions.
Uncertainty relations based on information theory for both discrete and continuous distribution functions are briefly reviewed. We extend these results to account for (differential) Rényi entropy and its related entropy power. This allows us to find a new class of information-theoretic uncertainty relations (ITURs). The potency of such uncertainty relations in quantum mechanics is illustrated with a simple two-energy-level model where they outperform both the usual Robertson-Schrödinger uncertainty relation and Kraus-Maassen Shannon entropy based uncertainty relation. In the continuous case th…
By using the point canonical transformation approach in a manner distinct from previous ones, we generate some new exactly solvable or quasi-exactly solvable potentials for the one-dimensional Schrödinger equation with a position-dependent effective mass. In the latter case, SUSYQM techniques provide us with some additional new potentials.
We propose a refinement of the Robertson-Schrodinger uncertainty principle (RSUP) using Wigner distributions. This new principle is stronger than the RSUP. In particular, and unlike the RSUP, which can be saturated by many phase space functions, the refined RSUP can be saturated by pure Gaussian Wigner functions only. Moreover, the new principle is technically as simple as the standard RSUP. In addition, it makes a direct connection with modern harmonic analysis, since it involves the Wigner transform and its symplectic Fourier transform, which is the radar ambiguity function. As a by-product …
