We analyse holomorphic discs on Lagrangian SU(2)-orbits in a family of quasihomogeneous threefolds of SL(2, C), previously studied by Evans-Lekili, introducing several techniques that should be applicable to wider classes of homogeneous Lagrangians. By studying the closed-open map we place strong restrictions on the self-Floer cohomology of these Lagrangians, which we then compute using the Biran-Cornea pearl complex.
Let f be a polynomial over the complex numbers with an isolated singularity at 0. We show that the multiplicity and the log canonical threshold of f at 0 are invariants of the link of f viewed as a contact submanifold of the sphere. This is done by first constructing a spectral sequence converging to the fixed point Floer cohomology of any iterate of the Milnor monodromy map whose E^1 page is explicitly described in terms of a log resolution of f. In this paper, we give partial answers to the following questions: Which contact manifolds are contactomorphic to links of isolated complex singularities? Which symplectic manifolds are symplectomorphic to smooth affine varieties? The invariant that we will use to distinguish such manifolds is called the growth rate of wrapped Floer cohomology. In this article, we consider the Floer cohomology (with $\Z_2$ coefficients) between torus fibers and the real Lagrangian in Fano toric manifolds. We first investigate the conditions under which the Floer cohomology is defined, and then develop a combinatorial description of the Floer complex based on the polytope of the toric manifold. We show that if the Floer cohomology is defined, and the Floer cohomology of the torus fiber is non-zero, then the Floer cohomology of the pair is non-zero. We use this result to develop some applications to non-displaceability and the minimum number of interse…
Ideas of Fukaya and Kontsevich-Soibelman suggest that one can use Strominger-Yau-Zaslow's geometric approach to mirror symmetry as a torus duality to construct the mirror of a symplectic manifold equipped with a Lagrangian torus fibration as a moduli space of simple objects of the Fukaya category supported on the fibres. In the absence of singular fibres, the construction of the mirror is explained in this framework, and, given a Lagrangian submanifold, a (twisted) coherent sheaf on the mirror is constructed.
We study the Floer cohomology of the Dehn twist along a real Lagrangian sphere in a symplectic manifold endowed with an anti-symplectic involution. We prove that there exists a distinguished element in the Floer group that is a fixed point of the automorphism induced by the involution. Our methods of proof are based on Mak-Wu's cobordism and Floer-theoretic considerations.
We construct shift operators on equivariant symplectic cohomology which generalise the shift operators on equivariant quantum cohomology in algebraic geometry. That is, given a Hamiltonian action of the torus $T$, we assign to a cocharacter of $T$ an endomorphism of $(S^1 \times T)$-equivariant Floer cohomology based on the equivariant Floer Seidel map. We prove the shift operator commutes with a connection. This connection is a multivariate version of Seidel's $q$-connection on $S^1$-equivariant Floer cohomology and generalises the Dubrovin connection on equivariant quantum cohomology. We pro…
We generalize Lagrangian Floer cohomology to sequences of Lagrangian correspondences. For sequences related by the geometric composition of Lagrangian correspondences we establish an isomorphism of the Floer cohomologies. We give applications to calculations of Floer cohomology, displaceability of Lagrangian correspondences, and transfer of displaceability under geometric composition.
Various Seiberg-Witten Floer cohomologies are defined for a closed, oriented 3-manifold; and if it is the mapping torus of an area-preserving surface automorphism, it has an associated periodic Floer homology as defined by Michael Hutchings. We construct an isomorphism between a certain version of Seiberg-Witten Floer cohomology and the corresponding periodic Floer homology, and describe some immediate consequences.
We use Floer cohomology to prove the monotone version of a conjecture of Audin: the minimal Maslov number of a monotone Lagrangian torus in C^n is 2. Our approach is based on the study of the quantum cup product on Floer cohomology and in particular the behaviour of Oh's spectral sequence with respect to this product. As further applications we prove existence of holomorphic disks with boundaries on Lagrangians as well as new results on Lagrangian intersections.
The long exact sequence describes how the Floer cohomology of two Lagrangian submanifolds changes if one of them is modified by applying a Dehn twist. We give a proof in the simplest case (no bubbling). The paper contains a certain amount of material that may be of interest independently of the exact sequence: in particular, chapter 1 covers "symplectic Picard-Lefschetz theory" in some detail, and chapter 2 contains a generalization of the usual TQFT setup for Floer cohomology.
This is a continuation of part I in the series of the papers on Lagrangian Floer theory on toric manifolds. Using the deformations of Floer cohomology by the ambient cycles, which we call bulk deformations, we find a continuum of non-displaceable Lagrangian fibers on some compact toric manifolds. We also provide a method of finding all fibers with non-vanishing Floer cohomology with bulk deformations in arbitrary compact toric manifolds, which we call bulk-balanced Lagrangian fibers.
Given a closed, connected, oriented 3-manifold with positive first Betti number, one can define an instanton Floer group as well as a quilted Lagrangian Floer group. The quilted Atiyah-Floer conjecture states that these cohomology groups are isomorphic. We initiate a program for proving this conjecture.
We calculate the self-Floer cohomology with Z/2 coefficients of some immersed Lagrangian spheres in the affine symplectic submanifolds of C^3 that are smoothings of A_N surfaces. The immersed spheres are exact and graded. We consider Lagrangian Floer cohomology for a pair of Lagrangian submanifolds in a symplectic manifold M. Suppose that M carries a symplectic involution, which preserves both submanifolds. Under various topological hypotheses, we prove a localization theorem for Floer cohomology, which implies a Smith-type inequality for the Floer cohomology groups in M and its fixed point set. Two applications to symplectic Khovanov cohomology are included.
We study Lagrangian correspondences between Liouville manifolds and construct functors between wrapped Fukaya categories. The study naturally brings up the question on comparing two versions of wrapped Fukaya categories of the product manifold, which we prove quasi-isomorphism on the level of wrapped Floer cohomology. We use quasimap Floer cohomology for varying symplectic quotients to resolve several puzzles regarding displaceability of toric moment fibers. For example, we (i) present a compact Hamiltonian torus action containing an {\em open} subset of non-displaceable orbits and a codimension four singular set, partly answering a question of McDuff, and (ii) determine displaceability for most of the moment fibers of a symplectic ellipsoid.
The objective of this paper is to clarify the relationships between the quantum D-module and equivariant Floer theory. Equivariant Floer theory was introduced by Givental in his paper ``Homological Geometry''. He conjectured that the quantum D-module of a symplectic manifold is isomorphic to the equivariant Floer cohomology for the universal cover of the free loop space. In the series of papers "Embedded contact homology and Seiberg-Witten Floer cohomology I-V", Taubes defines an isomorphism between the embedded contact homology (ECH) of Y and its Seiberg-Witten Floer cohomology. Both the ECH of Y and the Seiberg-Witten Floer cohomology of Y admit absolute gradings by homotopy classes of oriented two-plane fields. We show that Taubes' isomorphism preserves these gradings. In this paper we study Lagrangian Floer theory on toric manifolds from the point of view of mirror symmetry. We construct a natural isomorphism between the Frobenius manifold structures of the (big) quantum cohomology of the toric manifold and of Saito's theory of singularities of the potential function constructed in \cite{fooo09} via the Floer cohomology deformed by ambient cycles. Our proof of the isomorphism involves the open-closed Gromov-Witten theory of one-loop.
Using a simplified version of Kuranishi perturbation theory that we call semi-global Kuranishi structures, we give a definition of the equivariant Lagrangian Floer cohomology of a pair of Lagrangian submanifolds that are fixed under a finite symplectic group action and satisfy certain simplifying assumptions.
The Floer cohomology of a symplectic automorphism and that of its square are related by the pair-of-pants product. For exact symplectic automorphisms, we introduce an equivariant version of that product, and use it to prove a Smith-type inequality of ranks between Floer cohomology groups. Under additional topological assumptions, the same inequality was previously proved by Hendricks, using a different strategy.
We show that in many examples the non-displaceability of Lagrangian submanifolds by Hamiltonian isotopy can be proved via Lagrangian Floer cohomology with non-unitary line bundle. The examples include all monotone Lagrangian torus fibers in toric Fano manifold (which was also proven by Entov and Polterovich via the theory of symplectic quasi-states), some non-monotone Lagrangian torus fibers. We consider symplectic fibrations as in Guillemin-Lerman-Sternberg, and derive a spectral sequence to compute the Floer cohomology of certain fibered Lagrangians sitting inside a compact symplectic fibration with small monotone fibers and a rational base. We show if the Floer cohomology with field coefficients of the fiber Lagrangian vanishes, then the Floer cohomology with field coefficients of the total Lagrangian also vanishes. We give an application to certain non-torus fibers of the Gelfand-Cetlin system in Flag manifolds, and show that their Floer cohomology vanishes.
Let M be the total space of a negative line bundle over a closed symplectic manifold. We prove that the quotient of quantum cohomology by the kernel of a power of quantum cup product by the first Chern class of the line bundle is isomorphic to symplectic cohomology. We also prove this for negative vector bundles and the top Chern class. We explicitly calculate the symplectic and quantum cohomologies of O(-n) over P^m. We define an integer graded symplectic Floer cohomology and a Fintushel-Stern type spectral sequence which are new invariants for monotone Lagrangian sub-manifolds and exact isotopes. The Z-graded symplectic Floer cohomology is an integral lifting of the usual Z_Sigma(L)-graded Floer-Oh cohomology. We prove the Kunneth formula for the spectral sequence and an ring structure on it. The ring structure on the Z_Sigma(L)-graded Floer cohomology is induced from the ring structure of the cohomology of the Lagrangian sub-manifold via the spectral sequence. We define Lagrangian Floer cohomology over $\mathbb Z_2$-coefficients by counting pearly trajectories for graded, exact Lagrangian immersions that satisfy certain positivity condition on the index of the non-embedded points, and show that it is an invariant of the Lagrangian immersion under Hamiltonian deformations. We also show that it is naturally isomorphic to the Hamiltonian perturbed version of Lagrangian Floer cohomology as defined in [4]. As an application, we prove that the number of non-embedded points of such a Lagrangian in $\mathbb C^n$ is no less than the sum of its Betti numbers.
We prove the generalised McKay correspondence for isolated singularities using Floer theory. Given an isolated singularity \C^n/G for a finite subgroup G in SL(n,\C) and any crepant resolution Y, we prove that the rank of positive symplectic cohomology SH_+(Y) is the number of conjugacy classes of G, and that twice the age grading on conjugacy classes is the \Z-grading on SH_+(Y) by the Conley-Zehnder index. The first part proves the isomorphism between Floer cohomology and Generating function cohomology introduced by Lisa Traynor. Building on Seidel-Solomon's fundamental work, we define the notion of a $\mathfrak{g}$-equivariant Lagrangian brane in an exact symplectic manifold $M$ where $\mathfrak{g} \subset SH^1(M)$ is a sub-Lie algebra of the symplectic cohomology of $M$. When $M$ is a (symplectic) mirror to an (algebraic) homogeneous space $G/P$, homological mirror symmetry predicts that there is an embedding of $\mathfrak{g}$ in $SH^1(M)$. We investigate the small area limit of the gauged Lagrangian Floer cohomology of Frauenfelder. The resulting cohomology theory, which we call quasimap Floer cohomology, is an obstruction to displaceability of Lagrangians in the symplectic quotient. We use the theory to reproduce the results of Fukaya-Oh-Ohta-Ono and Cho-Oh on non-displaceability of moment fibers of not-necessarily-Fano toric varieties and extend their results to toric orbifolds, without virtual fundamental chains. Finally we describe a conjectural relationship to Floer cohomology in the quotient.
The main purpose of the present paper is a study of orientations of the moduli spaces of pseudo-holomorphic discs with boundary lying on a \emph{real} Lagrangian submanifold, i.e., the fixed point set of an anti-symplectic involutions $τ$ on a symplectic manifold. We construct a family of Lagrangian submanifolds in the Landau--Ginzburg mirror to the projective plane equipped with a binodal cubic curve as anticanonical divisor. These objects correspond under mirror symmetry to the powers of the twisting sheaf O(1), and hence their Floer cohomology groups form an algebra isomorphic to the homogeneous coordinate ring. An interesting feature is the presence of a singular torus fibration on the mirror, of which the Lagrangians are sections. We compute the Bott-Morse Floer cohomology of the Clifford torus in $\CP^n$ with all possible spin-structures. Each spin structure is known to determine an orientation of the moduli space of holomorphic discs, and we analyze the change of orientation according to the change of spin structure of the Clifford torus. Also, we classify all holomorphic discs with boundary lying on the Clifford torus by establishing a Maslov index formula for such discs. Let X be the Fermat quintic threefold. The set of real solutions L forms a Lagrangian submanifold of X. Multiplying the homogeneous coordinates of X by various fifth roots of unity gives automorphisms of X; the images of L under these automorphisms defines a family of 625 different Lagrangian submanifolds, called real Lagrangians. In this paper we try to calculate the Floer cohomology between all pairs of these Lagrangians. We are able to complete most of the calculations, but there are a few cases we cannot do. There is a classical relationship in algebraic geometry between a hyperelliptic curve and an associated pencil of quadric hypersurfaces. We investigate symplectic aspects of this relationship, with a view to applications in low-dimensional topology. We construct a derived equivalence between the Fukaya category of a curve and the nilpotent summand of the Fukaya category of the associated complete intersection of two quadrics. This essentially determines the instanton Floer homology of a 3-manifold fibred by genus two curves.
We study the reduced symplectic cohomology of disk subbundles in negative symplectic line bundles. We show that this cohomology theory "sees" the spectrum of a quantum action on quantum cohomology. Precisely, quantum cohomology decomposes into generalized eigenspaces of the action of the first Chern class by quantum cup product. The reduced symplectic cohomology of a disk bundle of radius $R$ sees all eigenspaces whose eigenvalues have size less than $R$, up to rescaling by a fixed constant. Inspired by Kronheimer and Mrowka's approach to monopole Floer homology, we develop a model for $\mathbb{Z}/2$-equivariant symplectic Floer theory using equivariant almost complex structures, which admits a localization map to a twisted version of Floer cohomology in the invariant set. We then present applications to Steenrod operations on Lagrangian Floer cohomology, and to the Heegaard Floer homology of double covers of three-manifolds.
