An action of a Lie algebra $\frak g$ on a manifold $M$ is just a Lie algebra homomorphism $ζ:\frak g\to \frak X(M)$. We define orbits for such an action. In general the space of orbits $M/\frak g$ is not a manifold and even has a bad topology. Nevertheless for a $\frak g$-manifold with equidimensional orbits we treat such notions as connection, curvature, covariant differentiation, Bianchi identity, parallel transport, basic differential forms, basic cohomology, and characteristic classes, which generalize the corresponding notions for principal $G$-bundles. As one of the applications, we derive a sufficient condition for the projection $M\to M/\frak g$ to be a bundle associated to a principal bundle.
We are interested in the study of the space of $n$-ary differential operators denoted by $\mathfrak{D}_{\underlineł,μ}$ where $\underlineł=(ł_{1},...,ł_{n})$ acting on weighted densities from $\frak F_{ł_1}\otimes\frak F_{ł_2}\otimes...\otimes\frak F_{ł_n}$ to $\frak F_μ$ as a module over the orthosymplectic superalgebra $\mathfrak{osp}(1|2)$. As a consequence, we prove the existence and the uniqueness of a canonical conformally equivariant symbol map from $\mathfrak{D}_{\underlineλ,μ}^k$ to the corresponding space of symbols as well for the explicit expression of the associated quantization m…
We study geodesics in generalized Wallach spaces which are expressed as orbits of products of three exponential terms. These are homogeneous spaces $M=G/K$ whose isotropy representation decomposes into a direct sum of three submodules $\frak{m}=\frak{m}_1\oplus\frak{m}_2\oplus\frak{m}_3$, satisfying the relations $[\frak{m}_i,\frak{m}_i]\subset \frak{k}$. Assuming that the submodules $\frak{m}_i$ are pairwise non isomorphic, we study geodesics on such spaces of the form $γ(t)=\exp (tX)\exp (tY)\exp (tZ)\cdot o$, where $X\in\fr{m}_1, Y\in\fr{m}_2, Z\in\fr{m}_3$ ($o=eK$), with respect to a $G$-i…
Let $G\subset GL(V)$ be a linear Lie group with Lie algebra $\frak g$ and let $A(\frak g)^G$ be the subalgebra of $G$-invariant elements of the associative supercommutative algebra $A(\frak g)= S(\frak g^*)\otimes \La(V^*)$. To any $G$-structure $π:P\to M$ with a connection $ω$ we associate a homomorphism $μ_ω:A(\frak g)^G\to Ω(M)$. The differential forms $μ_ω(f)$ for $f\in A(\frak g)^G$ which are associated to the $G$-structure $π$ can be used to construct Lagrangians. If $ω$ has no torsion the differential forms $μ_ω(f)$ are closed and define characteristic classes of a $G$-structure. The in…
Over the $(1,n)$-dimensional real supercircle, we consider the $\mathcal{K}(n)$-modules of linear differential operators, $\frak{D}^n_{λ,μ}$, acting on the superspaces of weighted densities, where $\mathcal{K}(n)$ is the Lie superalgebra of contact vector fields. We give, in contrast to the classical setting, a classification of these modules for $n=1$. We also prove that $\frak{D}^{n}_{λ,μ}$ and $\frak{D}_{ρ,ν}^{n}$ are isomorphic for $ρ=\frac{2-n}{2}-μ$ and $ν=\frac{2-n}{2}-λ$. This work is the simplest superization of a result by Gargoubi and Ovsienko [Modules of Differential Operators on t…
A CR manifold $M$, with CR distribution $\mathcal D^{10}\subset T^\mathbb C M$, is called {\it totally nondegenerate of depth $μ$} if: (a) the complex tangent space $T^\mathbb C M$ is generated by all complex vector fields that might be determined by iterated Lie brackets between at most $μ$ fields in $\mathcal D^{10} + \overline{\mathcal D^{10}}$; (b) for each integer $2 \leq k \leq μ-1$, the families of all vector fields that might be determined by iterated Lie brackets between at most $k$ fields in $\mathcal D^{10} + \overline{\mathcal D^{10}}$ generate regular complex distributions; (c) th…
We obtain a characterization of the real Lie algebras admitting abelian complex structures in terms of certain affine Lie algebras $\frak a \frak f \frak f (A)$, where $A$ is a commutative algebra. These affine Lie algebras are natural generalizations of $\frak a \frak f \frak f (\Bbb C)$ and the corresponding Lie groups are complex affine manifolds. It turns out that all 4-dimensional Lie algebras carrying abelian complex structures are central extensions of such affine Lie algebras.
We study existence of invariant Einstein metrics on complex Stiefel manifolds $G/K = \SU(\ell+m+n)/\SU(n) $ and the special unitary groups $G = \SU(\ell+m+n)$. We decompose the Lie algebra $\frak g$ of $G$ and the tangent space $\frak p$ of $G/K$, by using the generalized flag manifolds $G/H = \SU(\ell+m+n)/\s(\U(\ell)\times\U(m)\times\U(n))$. We parametrize scalar products on the 2-dimensional center of the Lie algebra of $H$, and we consider $G$-invariant and left invariant metrics determined by $\Ad(\s(\U(\ell)\times\U(m)\times\U(n))$-invariant scalar products on $\frak g$ and $\frak p$ res…
Consider the principal $U(n)$ bundles over the dual of Grassmann manifolds $U(n)\ra U(n,m)/U(m) \stackrelπ\ra D_{n,m}$. Given a 2-dimensional subspace $\frakm' \subset \frakm $ $ \subset \mathfrak{u}(n,m), $ assume either $\frakm'$ is induced by $X,Y \in U_{m,n}(\bbc)$ with $X^{*}Y = μI_n$ for some $μ\in \bbr$ or by $X,iX \in U_{m,n}(\bbc)$. Then $\frakm'$ gives rise to a complete totally geodesic surface $S$ in the base space. Furthermore, let $γ$ be a piecewise smooth, simple closed curve on $S$ parametrized by $0\leq t\leq 1$, and $\wtγ$ its horizontal lift on the bundle $U(n) \ra π^{-1}(S)…
Recently, it has been shown that the statistical manifold, related to exponential families, has a Frobenius manifold structure and appears as the fourth class of Frobenius manifolds. It has a structure of a projective manifold over a rank two Frobenius algebra $\frak{A}$, being the algebra of paracomplex numbers and generated by $1, ε$ such that $ε^2=1$. This result is a key step towards an algebraization of the results concerning the manifold of probability distributions and thus offers a new perspective on it. In this paper, we prove that the fourth Frobenius manifold is decomposed into a pa…
Let $M=Σ_1\times Σ_2$ be the product of two compact Riemannian manifolds of dimension $n\geq 2 $ and two, respectively. Let $Σ$ be the graph of a smooth map $f:Σ_1\mapsto Σ_2$, then $Σ$ is an $n$-dimensional submanifold of $M$. Let ${\frak G}$ be the Grassmannian bundle over $M$ whose fiber at each point is the set of all $n$-dimensional subspaces of the tangent space of $M$. The Gauss map $γ:Σ\mapsto \frak{G} $ assigns to each point $x\in Σ$ the tangent space of $Σ$ at $x$. This article considers the mean curvature flow of $Σ$ in $M$. When $Σ_1$ and $Σ_2$ are of the same non-negative curvatur…
Given a multisymplectic manifold $(M,ω)$ and a Lie algebra $\frak{g}$ acting on it by infinitesimal symmetries, Fregier-Rogers-Zambon define a homotopy (co-)moment as an $L_{\infty}$-algebra-homomorphism from $\frak{g}$ to the observable algebra $L(M,ω)$ associated to $(M,ω)$, in analogy with and generalizing the notion of a co-moment map in symplectic geometry. We give a cohomological characterization of existence and unicity for homotopy co-moment maps and show its utility in multisymplectic geometry by applying it to special cases as exact multisymplectic manifolds and simple Lie groups and…
We study local ($n+1$)-webs of codimension 1 on a manifold of dimension $n.$ We give a complete description of their possible Lie algebras of infinitesimal diffeomorphisms. More precisely we show that these Lie algebras are direct products of sub-algebras which are isomorphic to $\frak{sl}(2),$ to the non-commutative 2-dimensional Lie algebra or commutative. We give also a precise limitation of the number of such direct factors and examples.
This work is motivated by a result of Drinfeld on Poisson homogeneous spaces. For each Poisson manifold $P$ with a Poisson action by a Poisson Lie group $G$, we describe a Lie algebroid structure on the direct sum vector bundle $P \times {\frak g} \oplus T^*P$, where ${\frak g}$ is the Lie algebra of $G$. It is built out of the transformation Lie algebroid $P \times {\frak g}$ and the cotangent bundle Lie algebroid $T^*P$ together with a pair of representations of them on each other. When the action of $G$ on $P$ is transitive, the kernel of the anchor map of this Lie algebroid gives a Lie alg…
Given a finite dimensional manifold $N$, the group $\operatorname{Diff}_{\mathcal S}(N)$ of diffeomorphism of $N$ which fall suitably rapidly to the identity, acts on the manifold $B(M,N)$ of submanifolds on $N$ of diffeomorphism type $M$ where $M$ is a compact manifold with $\dim M<\dim N$. For a right invariant weak Riemannian metric on $\operatorname{Diff}_{\mathcal S}(N)$ induced by a quite general operator $L:\frak X_{\mathcal S}(N)\to Γ(T^*N\otimes\operatorname{vol}(N))$, we consider the induced weak Riemannian metric on $B(M,N)$ and we compute its geodesics and sectional curvature. For …
Let $(M,ω)$ be a Hamiltonian $G$-space with a momentum map $F:M \to {\frak g}^*$. It is well-known that if $α$ is a regular value of $F$ and $G$ acts freely and properly on the level set $F^{-1}(G\cdot α)$, then the reduced space $M_α:=F^{-1}(G\cdot α)/G$ is a symplectic manifold. We show that if the regularity assumptions are dropped the space $M_α$ is a union of symplectic manifolds, and that the symplectic manifolds fit together in a nice way. In other words the reduced space is a {\em symplectic stratified space}. This extends results known for the Hamiltonian action of compact groups.
We study the de Rham 1-cohomology H^1_{DR}(M,G) of a smooth manifold M with values in a Lie group G. By definition, this is the quotient of the set of flat connections in the trivial principle bundle $M\times G$ by the so-called gauge equivalence. We consider the case when M is a compact Kähler manifold and G is a solvable complex linear algebraic group of a special class which contains the Borel subgroups of all complex classical groups and, in particular, the group $T_n(\Bbb C)$ of all triangular matrices. In this case, we get a description of the set H^1_{DR}(M,G) in terms of the 1-cohomolo…
We study differential forms and their higher-order generalizations by interpreting them as functions on map spaces. We get a series of approximations of "generalized manifolds" (i.e. of sheaves and stacks) somewhat akin to Taylor series.
Derived differential manifolds are constructed using the usual homotopy theory of simplicial rings of smooth functions. They are proved to be equivalent to derived differential manifolds of finite type, constructed using homotopy sheaves of homotopy rings (D.Spivak), thus preserving the classical cobordism ring. This reduction to the usual algebraic homotopy can potentially lead to virtual fundamental classes beyond obstruction theory.
We characterize all natural linear operations between spaces of differential forms on contact manifolds. Our main theorem says roughly that such operations are built from some algebraic operators which we introduce and the exterior derivative.
The closure conditions of the inexact exterior differential form and dual form (an equality to zero of differentials of these forms) can be treated as a definition of some differential-geometrical structure. Such a connection discloses the properties and specific features of the differential-geometrical structures. The using of skew-symmetric differential forms enables one to reveal a mechanism of forming differential-geometrical structures as well. To do this, it is necessary to consider the skew-symmetric differential forms whose basis, unlike to the case of exterior differential forms, are …
We consider several differential operators on compact almost-complex, almost-Hermitian and almost-Kähler manifolds. We discuss Hodge Theory for these operators and a possible cohomological interpretation. We compare the associated spaces of harmonic forms and cohomologies with the classical de Rham, Dolbeault, Bott-Chern and Aeppli cohomologies.
We prove metric rigidity for complete manifolds supporting solutions of certain second order differential systems, thus extending classical works on a characterization of space-forms. In the route, we also discover new characterizations of space-forms. We next generalize results concerning metric rigidity via equations involving vector fields.
In this paper, we prove Perelman type $\mathcal{W}$-entropy formulae and global differential Harnack estimates for positive solutions to porous medium equation on the closed Riemannian manifolds with Ricci curvature bounded below. As applications, we derive Harnack inequalities and Laplacian estimates.
A new class of harmonic Hadamard manifolds, those spaces called of hypergeometric type, is defined in terms of Gauss hypergeometric equations. Spherical Fourier transform defined on a harmonic Hadamard manifold of hypergeometric type admits an inversion formula. A characterization of harmonic Hadamard manifold being of hypergeometric type is obtained with respect to volume density.
Let $M$ be a complete connected Riemannian manifold. Assuming that the Riemannian measure is doubling, we define Hardy spaces $H^p$ of differential forms on $M$ and give various characterizations of them, including an atomic decomposition. As a consequence, we derive the $H^p$-boundedness for Riesz transforms on $M$, generalizing previously known results. Further applications, in particular to $H^{\infty}$ functional calculus and Hodge decomposition, are given.
In the first part of this paper, we get new Li-Yau type gradient estimates for positive solutions of heat equation on Riemmannian manifolds with $Ricci(M)\ge -k$, $k\in \mathbb R$. As applications, several parabolic Harnack inequalities are obtained and they lead to new estimates on heat kernels of manifolds with Ricci curvature bounded from below. In the second part, we establish a Perelman type Li-Yau-Hamilton differential Harnack inequality for heat kernels on manifolds with $Ricci(M)\ge -k$, which generalizes a result of L. Ni \cite{NL1,NL4}. As applications, we obtain new Harnack inequali…
Differential forms on the Fréchet manifold F(S,M) of smooth functions on a compact k-dimensional manifold S can be obtained in a natural way from pairs of differential forms on M and S by the hat pairing. Special cases are the transgression map associating (p-k)-forms on F(S,M) to p-forms on M (hat pairing with a constant function) and the bar map associating p-forms on F(S,M) to p-forms on M (hat pairing with a volume form). We develop a hat calculus similar to the tilda calculus for non-linear Grassmannians.
Tubular neighborhoods play an important role in differential topology. We have applied these constructions to geometry of almost Hermitian manifolds. At first, we consider deformations of tensor structures on a normal tubular neighborhood of a submanifold in a Riemannian manifold.Further, an almost hyperHermitian structure has been constructed on the tangent bundle TM with help of the Riemannian connection of an almost Hermitian structure on a manifold M then, we consider an embedding of the almost Hermitian manifold M in the corresponding normal tubular neighborhood of the null section in the…
We formulate stochastic partial differential equations on Riemannian manifolds, moving surfaces, general evolving Riemannian manifolds (with appropriate assumptions) and Riemannian manifolds with random metrics, in the variational setting of the analysis to stochastic partial differential equations. Considering mainly linear stochastic partial differential equations, we establish various existence and uniqueness theorems.
We study differential invariants of the third order linear differential operators and use them to find conditions for equivalence of differential operators acting in line bundles on two dimensional manifolds with respect to groups of authomorphisms.
We prove a version of differential Harnack inequality for a family of sub-elliptic diffusions on Sasakian manifolds under certain curvature conditions.
We prove a Poincare type inequality for differential forms on compact manifolds by means of a constructive 'globalization' of a local Poincare inequality on convex sets.
Any discrete differential manifold $M$ (finite set endowed with an algebraic differential calculus) can be represented by appropriate polyhedron ${\cal P}(M)$. This representation demonstrates the adequacy of the calculus of discrete differential manifolds and links this approach with that based on finitary substitutes of continuous spaces introduced by R.D.Sorkin.
In this paper we are concerned with a class of elliptic differential inequalities with a potential both on $\erre^m$ and on Riemannian manifolds. In particular, we investigate the effect of the geometry of the underlying manifold and of the behavior of the potential at infinity on nonexistence of nonnegative solutions.
In this note we establish the large time non-negativity of the heat kernel for a class of elliptic differential operators on closed, Riemannian manifolds, and apply this result to a problem from conformal differential geometry.
In this paper we establish a Gaffney type inequality, in $W^{\ell,p}$-Sobolev spaces, for differential forms on sub-Riemannian contact manifolds without boundary, having bounded geometry (hence, in particular, we have in mind non-compact manifolds). Here $p\in]1,\infty[$ and $\ell=1,2$ depending on the order of the differential form we are considering. The proof relies on the structure of the Rumin's complex of differential forms in contact manifolds, on a Sobolev-Gaffney inequality proved by Baldi-Franchi in the setting of the Heisenberg groups and on some geometric properties that can be pro…
In classical field theory, the composite fibred manifolds Y -> Z -> X provides the adequate mathematical formulation of gauge models with broken symmetries, e.g., the gauge gravitation theory. This work is devoted to connections on composite fibred manifolds. In particular, we get the horizontal splitting of the vertical tangent bundle of a composite fibred manifold, besides the familiar one of its tangent bundle. This splitting defines the modified covariant differential and implies the special fashion of Lagrangian densities of field models on composite manifolds. The spinor composite bundle…
By using a certain second order differential equation, the notion of adapted coordinates on Finsler manifolds is defined and some classifications of complete Finsler manifolds are found. Some examples of Finsler metrics, with positive constant sectional curvature, not necessarily of Randers type nor projectively flat, are found. This work generalizes some results in Riemannian geometry and open up, a vast area of research on Finsler geometry.
In this paper, we generalize Liouville type theorems for some semilinear partial differential inequalities to sub-Riemannian manifolds satisfying a nonnegative generalized curvature-dimension inequality introduced by Baudoin and Garofalo in [5]. In particular, our results apply to all Sasakian manifolds with nonnegative horizontal Webster-Tanaka-Ricci curvature. The key ingredient is to construct a class of "good" cut-off functions. We also provide some upper bounds for lifespan to parabolic and hyperbolic inequalities.
Some model reduction techniques for multiple time-scale dynamical systems make use of the identification of low dimensional slow invariant attracting manifolds (SIAM) in order to reduce the dimensionality of the phase space by restriction to the slow flow. The focus of this work is on a proposition and discussion of a general viewpoint using differential geometric concepts for submanifolds to deal with slow invariant manifolds in an extended phase space. The motivation is a coordinate independent formulation of the manifold properties and its characterization problem treating the manifold as i…
A tangent category is a category equipped with an endofunctor that satisfies certain axioms which capture the abstract properties of the tangent bundle functor from classical differential geometry. Cockett and Cruttwell introduced differential bundles in 2017 as an algebraic alternative to vector bundles in an arbitrary tangent category. In this paper, we prove that differential bundles in the category of smooth manifolds are precisely vector bundles. In particular, this means that we can give a characterisation of vector bundles that exhibits them as models of a tangent categorical essentiall…
In this paper, we introduce the notion of a super tangent bundle of a manifold, and extend the basic notions of differential geometry such as differential forms, exterior derivation, connection, metric and divergence on manifolds that equipped with a super tangent bundle.
This article presents a new and more elementary proof of the main Seiberg-Witten-based obstruction to the existence of Einstein metrics on smooth compact 4-manifolds. It also introduces a new smooth manifold invariant which conveniently encapsulates those aspects of Seiberg-Witten theory most relevant to the study of Riemannian variational problems on 4-manifolds.
We consider differentiable maps in the setting of Abstract Differential Geometry and we study the conditions that ensure the uniqueness of differentials in this setting. In particular, we prove that smooth maps between smooth manifolds admit a unique differential, coinciding with the usual one. Thus smooth manifolds form a full subcategory of the category of differential triads, a result with physical implications.
On one hand, together with Pelle Steffens, we recently characterized the infinity category of derived manifolds up to equivalence by a universal property. On the other hand, it is shown in recent work of Behrend-Liao-Xu that the category of differential graded manifolds admits a homotopy theory. In this paper, we prove that the associated infinity category of dg-manifolds is equivalent to that of derived manifolds. This allows the well developed theory of dg-geometry to live in symbiosis with infinity categorical approach to derived differential geometry. As a consequence, we prove that a dg-C…
In [3], Connes found a conformal invariant using Wodzicki's 1-density and computed it in the case of 4-dimensional manifold without boundary. In [14], Ugalde generalized the Connes' result to $n$-dimensional manifold without boundary. In this paper, we generalize the results of [3] and [14] to the case of manifolds with boundary.
We give a lower bound for the bottom of the $L^2$ differential form spectrum on hyperbolic manifolds, generalizing thus a well-known result due to Sullivan and Corlette in the function case. Our method is based on the study of the resolvent associated with the Hodge-de Rham Laplacian and leads to applications for the (co)homology and topology of certain classes of hyperbolic manifolds.
In this paper, for an even dimensional compact manifold with boundary which has the non-product metric near the boundary, we use the noncommutative residue to define a conformal invariant pair. For a 4-dimensional manifold, we compute this conformal invariant pair under some conditions and point out the way of computations in the general.
The problem of determining the domain of the closure of the Laplace-Beltrami operator on a 2D almost-Riemannian manifold is considered. Using tools from theory of Lie groupoids natural domains of perturbations of the Laplace-Beltrami operator are found. The main novelty is that the presented method allows us to treat geometries with tangency points. This kind of singularity is difficult to treat since those points do not have a tubular neighbourhood compatible with the almost-Riemannian metric.
To better conform to data geometry, recent deep generative modelling techniques adapt Euclidean constructions to non-Euclidean spaces. In this paper, we study normalizing flows on manifolds. Previous work has developed flow models for specific cases; however, these advancements hand craft layers on a manifold-by-manifold basis, restricting generality and inducing cumbersome design constraints. We overcome these issues by introducing Neural Manifold Ordinary Differential Equations, a manifold generalization of Neural ODEs, which enables the construction of Manifold Continuous Normalizing Flows …
