Let $(M,ω)$ be a symplectic manifold compact or convex at infinity. Consider a closed Lagrangian submanifold $L$ such that $ω|_{π_2(M,L)}=0$ and $μ|_{π_2(M,L)}=0$, where $μ$ is the Maslov index. Given any Lagrangian submanifold $L'$, Hamiltonian isotopic to $L$, we define Lagrangian spectral invariants associated to the non zero homology classes of $L$, depending on $L$ and $L'$. We show that they naturally generalize the Hamiltonian spectral invariants introduced by Oh and Schwarz, and that they are the homological counterparts of higher order invariants, which we also introduce here, via spectral sequence machinery introduced by Barraud and Cornea. These higher order invariants are new even in the Hamiltonian case. We provide a way to distinguish them one from another and estimate their difference in terms of a geometric quantity.
Floer's chain complexes for Lagrangian submanifolds in closed symplectic manifolds are generated by intersection points of Lagrangian submanifolds and whose differentials count pseudo-holomorphic strips with Lagrangian boundary conditions. In this paper we will propose Floer's chain complexes for Lagrangian submanifolds in symplectic manifolds with concave ends.
We consider Floer homology associated to a pair of closed Lagrangian submanifolds that satisfy a monotonicty assumption. If the Lagrangians intersect cleanly we decribe two spectral sequences which help to compute their Floer homology. The spectral sequences are constructed using a Morse-Bott version of Floer homology. We give a full treatment of the theory including orientations.
We introduce the notion of (graded) anchored Lagrangian submanifolds and use it to study the filtration of Floer' s chain complex. We then obtain an anchored version of Lagrangian Floer homology and its (higher) product structures. They are somewhat different from the more standard non-anchored version. The anchored version discussed in this paper is more naturally related to the variational picture of Lagrangian Floer theory and so to the likes of spectral invariants. We also discuss rationality of Lagrangian submanifold and reduction of the coefficient ring of Lagrangian Floer cohomology of …
In this paper we establish a Floer-theoretical analog of the classical Gysin long exact sequence from algebraic topology for circle bundles. We study algebraic and functorial properties of this sequence and derive applications to computations of Lagrangian Floer homologies as well as to questions on the topology of Lagrangian submanifolds.
We study the Floer cohomology of the Dehn twist along a real Lagrangian sphere in a symplectic manifold endowed with an anti-symplectic involution. We prove that there exists a distinguished element in the Floer group that is a fixed point of the automorphism induced by the involution. Our methods of proof are based on Mak-Wu's cobordism and Floer-theoretic considerations.
We consider symplectic fibrations as in Guillemin-Lerman-Sternberg, and derive a spectral sequence to compute the Floer cohomology of certain fibered Lagrangians sitting inside a compact symplectic fibration with small monotone fibers and a rational base. We show if the Floer cohomology with field coefficients of the fiber Lagrangian vanishes, then the Floer cohomology with field coefficients of the total Lagrangian also vanishes. We give an application to certain non-torus fibers of the Gelfand-Cetlin system in Flag manifolds, and show that their Floer cohomology vanishes.
We use Floer cohomology to prove the monotone version of a conjecture of Audin: the minimal Maslov number of a monotone Lagrangian torus in C^n is 2. Our approach is based on the study of the quantum cup product on Floer cohomology and in particular the behaviour of Oh's spectral sequence with respect to this product. As further applications we prove existence of holomorphic disks with boundaries on Lagrangians as well as new results on Lagrangian intersections.
This is a translation of an article appeared in Japanese in Suugaku 63 (2011), no. 1, 43-66 (MR2790665) and is a survey of Lagrangian Floer homology which the author studies jointly with Y.-G.Oh, H. Ohta, and K. Ono. It also contains some explanation on its relation to (homological) mirror symmetry.
We introduce a contravariant functor, called Floer functor, from the category of Lagrangian conductors of a symplectic manifold to the homotopy category of bounded chain complexes of open strings in this manifold. The latter two categories are defined for all symplectic manifolds, whereas Floer functor is defined for semipositive manifolds which are either closed or convex at infinity. We then prove that when the first Chern class of the symplectic manifold vanishes, Lagrangian spheres define Lagrangian conductors so that in particular their integral Floer cohomology is well defined. This requ…
We show how to compute the Lagrangian Floer homology in the one-point blow up of the proper transform of Lagrangians submanifolds, solely in terms of information of the base manifold. As an example we present an alternative computation of the Lagrangian quantum homology in the one-point blow up of (CP^2,ω) of the proper transform of the Clifford torus.
In this article we address two issues. First, we explore to what extent the techniques of Piunikhin, Salamon and Schwarz in [PSS96] can be carried over to Lagrangian Floer homology. In [PSS96] an isomorphism between Hamiltonian Floer homology and the singular homology is established. In contrast, Lagrangian Floer homology is not isomorphic to the singular homology of the Lagrangian submanifold, in general. Depending on the minimal Maslov number, we construct for certain degrees two homomorphisms between Lagrangian Floer homology and singular homology. In degrees where both maps are defined we …
We define partial quasi-morphisms on the group of Hamiltonian diffeomorphisms of the cotangent bundle using the spectral invariants in Lagrangian Floer homology with conormal boundary conditions, where the product compatible with the PSS isomorphism and the homological intersection product is lacking.
We show that in many examples the non-displaceability of Lagrangian submanifolds by Hamiltonian isotopy can be proved via Lagrangian Floer cohomology with non-unitary line bundle. The examples include all monotone Lagrangian torus fibers in toric Fano manifold (which was also proven by Entov and Polterovich via the theory of symplectic quasi-states), some non-monotone Lagrangian torus fibers. We also extend the results by Oh and the author about the computations of Floer cohomology of Lagrangian torus fibers to the case of all toric Fano manifolds, removing the convexity assumption in the prev…
We study Lagrangian correspondences between Liouville manifolds and construct functors between wrapped Fukaya categories. The study naturally brings up the question on comparing two versions of wrapped Fukaya categories of the product manifold, which we prove quasi-isomorphism on the level of wrapped Floer cohomology. To prove representability of these functors constructed from Lagrangian correspondences, we introduce the geometric compositions of Lagrangian correspondences under wrapping, as new classes of objects in the wrapped Fukaya category, which we prove to represent the functors by est…
We calculate the self-Floer cohomology with Z/2 coefficients of some immersed Lagrangian spheres in the affine symplectic submanifolds of C^3 that are smoothings of A_N surfaces. The immersed spheres are exact and graded. Moreover, they satisfy a positivity assumption that allows us to calculate the Floer cohomology as follows: Given auxiliary data a Morse function on S^2 and a time-dependent almost complex structure, the Floer cochain complex is the Morse complex plus two generators for each self-intersection point of the Lagrangian sphere. The Floer differential is defined by counting combin…
In this article, we consider the Floer cohomology (with $\Z_2$ coefficients) between torus fibers and the real Lagrangian in Fano toric manifolds. We first investigate the conditions under which the Floer cohomology is defined, and then develop a combinatorial description of the Floer complex based on the polytope of the toric manifold. We show that if the Floer cohomology is defined, and the Floer cohomology of the torus fiber is non-zero, then the Floer cohomology of the pair is non-zero. We use this result to develop some applications to non-displaceability and the minimum number of interse…
Using a simplified version of Kuranishi perturbation theory that we call semi-global Kuranishi structures, we give a definition of the equivariant Lagrangian Floer cohomology of a pair of Lagrangian submanifolds that are fixed under a finite symplectic group action and satisfy certain simplifying assumptions.
We define Lagrangian Floer cohomology over $\mathbb Z_2$-coefficients by counting pearly trajectories for graded, exact Lagrangian immersions that satisfy certain positivity condition on the index of the non-embedded points, and show that it is an invariant of the Lagrangian immersion under Hamiltonian deformations. We also show that it is naturally isomorphic to the Hamiltonian perturbed version of Lagrangian Floer cohomology as defined in [4]. As an application, we prove that the number of non-embedded points of such a Lagrangian in $\mathbb C^n$ is no less than the sum of its Betti numbers.
We establish a new version of Floer homology for monotone Lagrangian submanifolds and apply it to prove the following (generalized) version of Audin's conjecture : if $L$ is an aspherical manifold which admits a monotone Lagrangian embedding in ${\bf C^{n}}$, then its Maslov number equals $2$. We also prove other results on the topology of monotone Lagrangian submanifolds $L\subset M$ of maximal Maslov number under the hypothesis that they are displaceable through a Hamiltonian isotopy.
We generalize Lagrangian Floer cohomology to sequences of Lagrangian correspondences. For sequences related by the geometric composition of Lagrangian correspondences we establish an isomorphism of the Floer cohomologies. We give applications to calculations of Floer cohomology, displaceability of Lagrangian correspondences, and transfer of displaceability under geometric composition.
In this paper we study the Lagrangian Floer theory over $\Z$ or $\Z_2$. Under an appropriate assumption on ambient symplectic manifold, we show that the whole story of Lagrangian Floer theory in \cite{fooo-book} can be developed over $\Z_2$ coefficients, and over $\Z$ coefficients when Lagrangian submanifolds are relatively spin. The main technical tools used for the construction are the notion of the sheaf of groups, and stratification and compatibility of the normal cones applied to the Kuranishi structure of the moduli space of pseudo-holomorphic discs.
This is a continuation of part I in the series of the papers on Lagrangian Floer theory on toric manifolds. Using the deformations of Floer cohomology by the ambient cycles, which we call bulk deformations, we find a continuum of non-displaceable Lagrangian fibers on some compact toric manifolds. We also provide a method of finding all fibers with non-vanishing Floer cohomology with bulk deformations in arbitrary compact toric manifolds, which we call bulk-balanced Lagrangian fibers.
Using quilted Floer cohomology and relative quilt invariants, we define a composition functor for categories of Lagrangian correspondences in monotone and exact symplectic Floer theory. We show that this functor agrees with geometric composition in the case that the composition is smooth and embedded. As a consequence we obtain 'categorification commutes with composition' for Lagrangian correspondences.
The purpose of this survey is to explain an approach to the Atiyah-Floer conjecture via a new instanton Floer homology with Lagrangian boundary conditions. This is a joint project with Dietmar Salamon. This paper also provides a rough guide to the analysis of anti-self-dual instantons with Lagrangian boundary conditions (in earlier papers), which is the crucial ingredient of our approach.
We compute the Lagrangian Floer cohomology groups of certain tori in closed simply connected symplectic 4-manifolds arising from Fintushel-Stern knot surgery. These manifolds are usually not symplectically aspherical. As a result of the computation we observe examples where $HF(L_0)\cong HF(L_1)$ and $L_0$ and $L_1$ are smoothly isotopic but $L_0,L_1$ are not symplectically isotopic and are distinguished by $HF(L_0,L_1)$.
We study the following rigidity problem in symplectic geometry:can one displace a Lagrangian submanifold from a hypersurface? We relate this to the Arnold Chord Conjecture, and introduce a refined question about the existence of relative leaf-wise intersection points, which are the Lagrangian-theoretic analogue of the notion of leaf-wise intersection points defined by Moser. Our tool is Lagrangian Rabinowitz Floer homology, which we define first for Liouville domains and exact Lagrangian submanifolds with Legendrian boundary. We then extend this to the `virtually contact' setting. By means of …
We develop Lagrangian Floer Theory for exact, graded, immersed Lagrangians with clean self-intersection using Seidel's setup. A positivity assumption on the index of the self intersection points is imposed to rule out certain (but not all) disc bubbles. This allows the Lagrangians to be included in the exact Fukaya category. We also study quasi-isomorphism of Lagrangians under certain exact deformations which are not Hamiltonian.
We extend Floer theory for monotone Lagrangians to allow coefficients in local systems of arbitrary rank. Unlike the rank 1 case, this is often obstructed by Maslov 2 discs. We study exactly what the obstruction is and define some natural unobstructed subcomplexes. To illustrate these constructions we do some explicit calculations for the Chiang Lagrangian $L_Δ \subseteq \mathbb{C}P^3$. For example, we equip $L_Δ$ with a particular rank 2 local system $W$ over the field with 2 elements such that the resulting Floer complex $CF^*(W,W)$ is unobstructed despite the presence of Maslov 2 discs. We …
We show that the transfer map on Floer homotopy types associated to an exact Lagrangian embedding is an equivalence. This provides an obstruction to representing isotopy classes of Lagrangian immersions by Lagrangian embeddings, which, unlike previous obstructions, is sensitive to information that cannot be detected by Floer cochains. We show this by providing a concrete computation in the case of spheres.
In this note we present a brief introduction to Lagrangian Floer homology and its relation with the solution of Arnol'd conjecture, on the minimal number of non-degenerate fixed points of a Hamiltonian diffeomorphism. We start with the basic definition of critical point on smooth manifolds, in oder to sketch some aspects of Morse theory. Introduction to the basics concepts of symplectic geometry are also included, with the idea of understanding the statement of Arnol'd Conjecture and how is related to the intersection of Lagrangian submanifolds.
We prove that the LOSS and GRID invariants of Legendrian links in knot Floer homology behave in certain functorial ways with respect to decomposable Lagrangian cobordisms in the symplectization of the standard contact structure on $\mathbb{R}^3$. Our results give new, computable, and effective obstructions to the existence of such cobordisms.
Answering a question of Witten, we introduce a novel method for defining an integral version of Lagrangian Floer homology, removing the standard restriction that the Lagrangians in question must be relatively Pin. Using this technique, we derive stronger bounds on the self-intersection of certain exact Lagrangians $\mathbb{RP}^2 \times L'$ than those that follow from traditional methods. We define a integral version of Lagrangian Floer homology all oriented closed exact Lagrangians $L$ in a Liouville domain and prove a general self-intersection bound coming from the algebraic properties of the…
We define an integer graded symplectic Floer cohomology and a Fintushel-Stern type spectral sequence which are new invariants for monotone Lagrangian sub-manifolds and exact isotopes. The Z-graded symplectic Floer cohomology is an integral lifting of the usual Z_Sigma(L)-graded Floer-Oh cohomology. We prove the Kunneth formula for the spectral sequence and an ring structure on it. The ring structure on the Z_Sigma(L)-graded Floer cohomology is induced from the ring structure of the cohomology of the Lagrangian sub-manifold via the spectral sequence. Using the Z-graded symplectic Floer cohomolo…
We analyse holomorphic discs on Lagrangian SU(2)-orbits in a family of quasihomogeneous threefolds of SL(2, C), previously studied by Evans-Lekili, introducing several techniques that should be applicable to wider classes of homogeneous Lagrangians. By studying the closed-open map we place strong restrictions on the self-Floer cohomology of these Lagrangians, which we then compute using the Biran-Cornea pearl complex.
We define and investigate spectral invariants for Floer homology $HF(H,U:M)$ of an open subset $U\subset M$ in $T^*M$, defined by Kasturirangan and Oh as a direct limit of Floer homologies of approximations. We define a module structure product on $HF(H,U:M)$ and prove the triangle inequality for invariants with respect to this product. We also prove the continuity of these invariants and compare them with spectral invariants for periodic orbits case in $T^*M$.
This is the third paper in a series of papers studying intersection Floer theory of Lagrangians in the complement of a smooth divisor. We complete the construction of Floer homology for such Lagrangians.
We develop a new approach to Lagrangian-Floer gluing. The construction of the gluing map is based on the intersection theory in some Hilbert manifold of paths $\mathcal{P} $. We consider some moduli spaces of perturbed holomorphic curves whose domains are either strips or more general Riemann surfaces with strip-like ends. These moduli spaces can be injectively immersed into the Hilbert manifold $\mathcal{P} $ by taking the restriction to non-Lagrangian boundary. Some subsets $ \mathcal{M}^T(U) $ and $ \mathcal{M}^{\infty} (U) $ of the aforementioned moduli spaces of perturbed holomorphic stri…
We derive constraints on Lagrangian concordances from Legendrian submanifolds of the standard contact sphere admitting exact Lagrangian fillings. More precisely, we show that such a concordance induces an isomorphism on the level of bilinearised Legendrian contact cohomology. This is used to prove the existence of non-invertible exact Lagrangian concordances in all dimensions. In addition, using a result of Eliashberg-Polterovich, we completely classify exact Lagrangian concordances from the Legendrian unknot to itself in the tight contact-three sphere: every such concordance is the trace of a…
The purpose of this paper is to extend the construction of the PSS-type isomorphism between the Floer homology and the quantum homology of a monotone Lagrangian submanifold $L$ of a symplectic manifold $M$, provided that the minimal Maslov number of $L$ is at least two, to arbitrary coefficients. We provide a proof, again over arbitrary coefficients, that this isomorphism respects the natural algebraic structures on both sides, such as the quantum product and the quantum module action. This isomorphism serves as the technical foundation for the construction of Lagrangian spectral invariants in…
Lagrangian Floer homology in a general case has been constructed by Fukaya, Oh, Ohta and Ono, where they construct an $\AI$-algebra or an $\AI$-bimodule from Lagrangian submanifolds, and studied the obstructions and deformation theories. But for obstructed Lagrangian submanifolds, standard Lagrangian Floer homology can not be defined. We explore several well-known cohomology theories on these $\AI$-objects and explore their properties, which are well-defined and invariant even in the obstructed cases. These are Hochschild and cyclic homology of an $\AI$-objects and Chevalley-Eilenberg or cycli…
Let X be the Fermat quintic threefold. The set of real solutions L forms a Lagrangian submanifold of X. Multiplying the homogeneous coordinates of X by various fifth roots of unity gives automorphisms of X; the images of L under these automorphisms defines a family of 625 different Lagrangian submanifolds, called real Lagrangians. In this paper we try to calculate the Floer cohomology between all pairs of these Lagrangians. We are able to complete most of the calculations, but there are a few cases we cannot do. The basic idea is to explicitly describe some low energy moduli spaces and then us…
Around 1988, Floer introduced two important theories: instanton Floer homology as invariants of 3-manifolds and Lagrangian Floer homology as invariants of pairs of Lagrangians in symplectic manifolds. Soon after that, Atiyah conjectured that the two theories should be related to each other and Lagrangian Floer homology of certain Lagrangians in the moduli space of flat connections on Riemann surfaces should recover instanton Floer homology. However, the space of flat connections on a Riemann surface is singular and the first step to address this conjecture is to make sense of Lagrangian Floer …
In this paper we study Lagrangian Floer theory on toric manifolds from the point of view of mirror symmetry. We construct a natural isomorphism between the Frobenius manifold structures of the (big) quantum cohomology of the toric manifold and of Saito's theory of singularities of the potential function constructed in \cite{fooo09} via the Floer cohomology deformed by ambient cycles. Our proof of the isomorphism involves the open-closed Gromov-Witten theory of one-loop.
Given an exact Lagrangian submanifold $L$ in $T^*N$, we want to construct a complex of sheaves in the derived category of sheaves on $N\times {\mathbb R} $, such that its singular support, $SS({\mathcal F}^\bullet_L)$, is equal to $\widehat L$, the cone constructed over $L$. Its existence was stated in \cite{Viterbo-ISTST} in 2011, with a sketch of proof, which however contained a gap (fixed here by the rectification). A complete proof was shortly after provided by Guillermou (\cite{Guillermou}) by a completely different method, in particular Guillermou's method does not use Floer theory. The …
