We introduce a contravariant functor, called Floer functor, from the category of Lagrangian conductors of a symplectic manifold to the homotopy category of bounded chain complexes of open strings in this manifold. The latter two categories are defined for all symplectic manifolds, whereas Floer functor is defined for semipositive manifolds which are either closed or convex at infinity. We then prove that when the first Chern class of the symplectic manifold vanishes, Lagrangian spheres define Lagrangian conductors so that in particular their integral Floer cohomology is well defined. This requires the introduction of singular almost-complex structures given by symplectic field theory.
We introduce a class of Liouville manifolds with boundary which we call Liouville sectors. We define the wrapped Fukaya category, symplectic cohomology, and the open-closed map for Liouville sectors, and we show that these invariants are covariantly functorial with respect to inclusions of Liouville sectors. From this foundational setup, a local-to-global principle for Abouzaid's generation criterion follows.
The results in this paper concern computations of Floer cohomology using generating functions. The first part proves the isomorphism between Floer cohomology and Generating function cohomology introduced by Lisa Traynor. The second part proves that the Floer cohomology of the cotangent bundle (in the sense of Part I), is isomorphic to the cohomology of the loop space of the base. This has many consequences, some of which were given in Part I (GAFA, Geom. funct. anal. Vol. 9 (1999) 985-1033), others will be given in forthcoming papers. The results in this paper had been announced (with indicati…
We study Lagrangian correspondences between Liouville manifolds and construct functors between wrapped Fukaya categories. The study naturally brings up the question on comparing two versions of wrapped Fukaya categories of the product manifold, which we prove quasi-isomorphism on the level of wrapped Floer cohomology. To prove representability of these functors constructed from Lagrangian correspondences, we introduce the geometric compositions of Lagrangian correspondences under wrapping, as new classes of objects in the wrapped Fukaya category, which we prove to represent the functors by est…
Family Floer theory yields a functor from the Fukaya category of a symplectic manifold admitting a Lagrangian torus fibration to a (twisted) category of perfect complexes on the mirror rigid analytic space. This functor is shown to be faithful by a degeneration argument involving moduli spaces of annuli.
Using quilted Floer cohomology and relative quilt invariants, we define a composition functor for categories of Lagrangian correspondences in monotone and exact symplectic Floer theory. We show that this functor agrees with geometric composition in the case that the composition is smooth and embedded. As a consequence we obtain 'categorification commutes with composition' for Lagrangian correspondences.
In this paper we establish a Floer-theoretical analog of the classical Gysin long exact sequence from algebraic topology for circle bundles. We study algebraic and functorial properties of this sequence and derive applications to computations of Lagrangian Floer homologies as well as to questions on the topology of Lagrangian submanifolds.
It has been a central open problem in Heegaard Floer theory whether cobordisms of links induce homomorphisms on the associated link Floer homology groups. We provide an affirmative answer by introducing a natural notion of cobordism between sutured manifolds, and showing that such a cobordism induces a map on sutured Floer homology. This map is a common generalization of the hat version of the closed 3-manifold cobordism map in Heegaard Floer theory, and the contact gluing map defined by Honda, Kazez, and Matić. We show that sutured Floer homology, together with the above cobordism maps, forms…
Categorical symplectic geometry is the study of a rich collection of invariants of symplectic manifolds, including the Fukaya $A_\infty$-category, Floer cohomology, and symplectic cohomology. Beginning with work of Wehrheim and Woodward in the late 2000s, several authors have developed techniques for functorial manipulation of these invariants. We survey these functorial structures, including Wehrheim-Woodward's quilted Floer cohomology and functors associated to Lagrangian correspondences, Fukaya's alternate approach to defining functors between Fukaya $A_\infty$-categories, and the second au…
Fixing a weakly unobstructed Lagrangian torus in a symplectic manifold X, we define a holomorphic function W known as the Floer potential. We construct a canonical A-infinity functor from the Fukaya category of X to the category of matrix factorizations of W. It provides a unified way to construct matrix factorizations from Lagrangian Floer theory. The technique is applied to toric Fano manifolds to transform Lagrangian branes to matrix factorizations. Using the method, we also obtain an explicit expression of the matrix factorization mirror to the real locus of the complex projective space.
We study wrapped Floer theory on product Liouville manifolds and prove that the wrapped Fukaya categories defined with respect to two different kinds of natural Hamiltonians and almost complex structures are equivalent. The implication is we can do quilted version of wrapped Floer theory, based on which we then construct functors between wrapped Fukaya categories of Liouville manifolds from certain classes of Lagrangian correspondences, by enlarging the wrapped Fukaya categories appropriately, allowing exact cylindrical Lagrangian immersions. For applications, we present a general Künneth form…
Liouville domains are a special type of symplectic manifolds with boundary (they have an everywhere defined Liouville flow, pointing outwards along the boundary). Symplectic cohomology for Liouville domains was introduced by Cieliebak-Floer-Hofer-Wysocki and Vitero. The latter constructed a restriction (or transfer) map associated to an embedding of one Liouville domain into another. In this preprint, we look at exact Lagrangian submanifolds with Legendrian boundary inside a Liouville domain. The analogue of symplectic cohomology for such submanifolds is called "wrapped Floer cohomology". We c…
We construct partial category-valued field theories in (2+1)-dimensions using Lagrangian Floer theory in moduli spaces of central-curvature unitary connections with fixed determinant of rank r and degree d where r,d are coprime positive integers. These theories associate to a closed, connected, oriented surface the Fukaya category of the moduli space, and to a connected bordism between two surfaces a functor between the Fukaya categories. We obtain the latter by combining Cerf theory with holomorphic quilt invariants.
We prove that the LOSS and GRID invariants of Legendrian links in knot Floer homology behave in certain functorial ways with respect to decomposable Lagrangian cobordisms in the symplectization of the standard contact structure on $\mathbb{R}^3$. Our results give new, computable, and effective obstructions to the existence of such cobordisms.
In their previous work, Barraud and Cornea enriched the Lagrangian Floer complex by adding cubical chains in the based loop space of the Lagrangian, and recovered the Leray-Serre spectral sequence of the based path space fibration, assuming that the Lagrangian is weakly exact and simply connected. In the present article, we remove the simple connectivity assumption and adapt the construction to any Hurewicz fibration. To this end, we introduce a stronger notion of local systems than the classical one, as a topological functor from the free path space of a manifold to the category of topologica…
We use monopole Floer homology for sutured manifolds to construct invariants of Legendrian knots in a contact 3-manifold. These invariants assign to a knot K in Y elements of the monopole knot homology KHM(-Y,K), and they strongly resemble the knot Floer homology invariants of Lisca, Ozsváth, Stipsicz, and Szabó. We prove several vanishing results, investigate their behavior under contact surgeries, and use this to construct many examples of non-loose knots in overtwisted 3-manifolds. We also show that these invariants are functorial with respect to Lagrangian concordance.
We develop a new approach to Lagrangian-Floer gluing. The construction of the gluing map is based on the intersection theory in some Hilbert manifold of paths $\mathcal{P} $. We consider some moduli spaces of perturbed holomorphic curves whose domains are either strips or more general Riemann surfaces with strip-like ends. These moduli spaces can be injectively immersed into the Hilbert manifold $\mathcal{P} $ by taking the restriction to non-Lagrangian boundary. Some subsets $ \mathcal{M}^T(U) $ and $ \mathcal{M}^{\infty} (U) $ of the aforementioned moduli spaces of perturbed holomorphic stri…
We consider the Fukaya category associated to a basis of vanishing cycles in a Lefschetz fibration. We show that each element of the Floer cohomology of the monodromy around infinity gives rise to a natural transformation from the Serre functor to the identity functor. This complements previously known constructions, in a way which fits in well with homological mirror symmetry.
Floer field theory is a construction principle for e.g. 3-manifold invariants via decomposition in a bordism category and a functor to the symplectic category, and is conjectured to have natural 4-dimensional extensions. This survey provides an introduction to the categorical language for the construction and extension principles and provides the basic intuition for two gauge theoretic examples which conceptually frame Atiyah-Floer type conjectures in Donaldson theory as well as the relations of Heegaard Floer homology to Seiberg-Witten theory.
For a simply-connected compact semisimple Lie group $G$ and its maximal torus $T$, we study the $A_{\infty}$-functor associated to the moment Lagrangian correspondence from the cotangent bundle $T^*G$ to the square $G/T^{-} \times G/T$. In particular, we compute the leading term of the $A_{\infty}$-homomorphism from the wrapped Floer cohomology $HW^*(T^*_e G, T^*_e G)$ of the cotangent fiber $T_e^*G$ to the Floer cohomology $HF^*(Δ, Δ)$ of the diagonal $Δ$ in the square $G/T^{-} \times G/T$ by determining the count of certain pseudo-holomorphic quilts. As a consequence, we prove that the Floer…
We recently defined an invariant of contact manifolds with convex boundary in Kronheimer and Mrowka's sutured monopole Floer homology theory. Here, we prove that there is an isomorphism between sutured monopole Floer homology and sutured Heegaard Floer homology which identifies our invariant with the contact class defined by Honda, Kazez and Matić in the latter theory. One consequence is that the Legendrian invariants in knot Floer homology behave functorially with respect to Lagrangian concordance. In particular, these invariants provide computable and effective obstructions to the existence …
A three-manifold equipped with a Heegaard diagram can be used to set up a Floer homology theory whose differential counts pseudo-holomorphic disks in the $g$-fold symmetric product of the Heegaard surface. This leads to a topological invariant for three-manifolds, Heegaard Floer homology, which is functorial under cobordisms. In this survey article, we sketch this construction and describe some of its topological applications.
We define a sutured cobordism category of surfaces with boundary and 3-manifolds with corners. In this category a sutured 3-manifold is regarded as a morphism from the empty surface to itself. In the process we define a new class of geometric objects, called bordered sutured manifolds, that generalize both sutured 3-manifolds and bordered 3-manifolds. We extend the definition of bordered Floer homology to these objects, giving a functor from a decorated version of the sutured category to A-infinity algebras, and A-infinity bimodules. As an application we give a way to recover the sutured homol…
We formulate a constructive theory of noncommutative Landau-Ginzburg models mirror to symplectic manifolds based on Lagrangian Floer theory. The construction comes with a natural functor from the Fukaya category to the category of matrix factorizations of the constructed Landau-Ginzburg model. As applications, it is applied to elliptic orbifolds, punctured Riemann surfaces and certain non-compact Calabi-Yau threefolds to construct their mirrors and functors. In particular it recovers and strengthens several interesting results of Etingof-Ginzburg, Bocklandt and Smith, and gives a unified under…
In arXiv:1611.09927, we constructed a well-defined Lagrangian Floer invariant for any closed, oriented $3$-manifold $Y$ via the symplectic geometry of so-called traceless $\mathrm{SU}(2)$-character varieties. This invariant, $\mathrm{SI}(Y)$, which we refer to as the symplectic instanton homology of $Y$, was also shown to satisfy an exact triangle for Dehn surgeries on knots which is typical of Floer-theoretic invariants of $3$-manifolds. In this article, we demonstrate further structural properties of this symplectic instanton homology. For example, Floer theories are expected to roughly sati…
We define an extended field theory in dimensions $1+1+1$, that takes the form of a `quasi 2-functor' with values in a strict 2-category $\widehat{\mathcal{H}am}$, defined as the `completion of a partial 2-category' $\mathcal{H}am$, notions which we define. Our construction extends Wehrheim and Woodward's Floer Field theory, and is inspired by Manolescu and Woodward's construction of symplectic instanton homology. It can be seen, in dimensions $1+1$, as a real analog of a construction by Moore and Tachikawa. Our construction is motivated by instanton gauge theory in dimensions 3 and 4: we expec…
We find a relation between Lagrangian Floer pairing of a symplectic manifold and Kapustin-Li pairing of the mirror Landau-Ginzburg model under localized mirror functor. They are conformally equivalent with an interesting conformal factor $(vol^{Floer}/vol)^2$, which can be described as a ratio of Lagrangian Floer volume class and classical volume class. For this purpose, we introduce $B$-invariant of Lagrangian Floer cohomology with values in Jacobian ring of the mirror potential function. And we prove what we call a multi-crescent Cardy identity under certain conditions, which is a generalize…
We introduce a category of Kuranishi presentations, whose objects are a variant of the Kuranishi structures introduced by Fukaya and Ono, and which can be seen as a refinement of the version studied by Pardon. We then formulate the notion of virtual chains categorically as a natural transformation between two functors from this category to the category of chain complexes; we call such a datum 'a theory of virtual counts'. To show that this definition carries non-trivial content, we then construct a multicategory whose objects are Kuranishi flow categories, and show that a theory of virtual cou…
Given an exact relatively Pin Lagrangian embedding Q in a symplectic manifold M, we construct an A-infinity restriction functor from the wrapped Fukaya category of M to the category of modules on the differential graded algebra of chains over the based loop space of Q. If M is the cotangent bundle of Q, this functor induces an A-infinity equivalence between the wrapped Floer cohomology of a cotangent fibre and the chains over the based loop space of Q, extending a result proved by Abbondandolo and Schwarz at the level of homology.
Kronheimer and Mrowka defined invariants of balanced sutured manifolds using monopole and instanton Floer homology. Their invariants assign isomorphism classes of modules to balanced sutured manifolds. In this paper, we introduce refinements of these invariants which assign much richer algebraic objects called projectively transitive systems of modules to balanced sutured manifolds and isomorphisms of such systems to diffeomorphisms of balanced sutured manifolds. Our work provides the foundation for extending these sutured Floer theories to other interesting functorial frameworks as well, and …
