We consider convolution-type stochastic Volterra equations with additive Hilbert-valued fractional Brownian motion, $0<H<1$. We find the weak solution to this stochastic Volterra equation, and study its stochastic integral part, the stochastic convolution, which we show to be mean-zero Gaussian. We develop an Itô isometry for stochastic integrals with respect to a Hilbert-valued fractional Brownian motion, and use it to compute the covariance of the stochastic convolution. This formula, which uses fractional integrals and derivatives, generalizes the well-known formula from the case $H=1/2$.
Based on the recent development of the framework of Volterra rough paths, we consider here the probabilistic construction of the Volterra rough path associated to the fractional Brownian motion with $H>\frac{1}{2}$ and for the standard Brownian motion. The Volterra kernel $k(t,s)$ is allowed to be singular, and behaving similar to $|t-s|^{-γ}$ for some $γ\geq 0$. The construction is done in both the Stratonovich and Itô sense. It is based on a modified Garsia-Rodemich-Romsey lemma which has an interest in its own right, as well as tools from Malliavin calculus. A discussion of challenges and p…
In this note we prove an existence and uniqueness result of solution for stochastic Volterra integral equations driven by a fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter H > 1/2, showing also that the solution has finite moments. The stochastic integral with respect to the fractional Brownian motion is a pathwise Riemann-Stieltjes integral.
In this paper we investigate a problem of large deviations for continuous Volterra processes under the influence of model disturbances. More precisely, we study the behavior, in the near future after $T$, of a Volterra process driven by a Brownian motion in a case where the Brownian motion is not directly observable, but only a noisy version is observed or some linear functionals of the noisy version are observed. Some examples are discussed in both cases.
This paper generalizes the integration theory for volatility modulated Brownian-driven Volterra processes onto the space G* of Potthoff-Timpel distributions. Sufficient conditions for integrability of generalized processes are given, regularity results and properties of the integral are discussed. We introduce a new volatility modulation method through the Wick product and discuss its relation to the pointwise-multiplied volatility model.
We show that a sequence of stochastic spatial Lotka-Volterra models, suitably rescaled in space and time, converges weakly to super-Brownian motion with drift. The result includes both long range and nearest neighbor models, the latter for dimensions three and above. These theorems are special cases of a general convergence theorem for perturbations of the voter model.
This note is devoted to construct a rough path above a multidimensional fractional Brownian motion $B$ with any Hurst parameter $H\in(0,1)$, by means of its representation as a Volterra Gaussian process. This approach yields some algebraic and computational simplifications with respect to [Stochastic Process. Appl. 120 (2010) 1444--1472], where the construction of a rough path over $B$ was first introduced.
This paper is devoted to study a class of stochastic Volterra equations associated with fractional Brownian motion. We first prove the Driver type integration by parts formula and the shift Harnack type inequalities. As a direct application, we provide an alternative method to describe the regularities of the law of the solution. Secondly, by using the Malliavin calculus, the Bismut type derivative formula is established, which is then applied to the study of the gradient estimate and the strong Feller property. Finally, we establish the Talagrand type transportation cost inequalities for the …

We construct the basis of a stochastic calculus for so-called Volterra processes, i.e., processes which are defined as the stochastic integral of a time-dependent kernel with respect to a standard Brownian motion. For these processes which are natural generalization of fractional Brownian motion, we construct a stochastic integral and show some of its main properties: regularity with respect to time and kernel, transformation under an absolutely continuous change of probability, possible approximation schemes and Ito formula.
In the paper stochastic Volterra equations with noise terms driven by series of independent scalar Wiener processes are considered. In our study we use the resolvent approach to the equations under consideration. We give sufficient condition for the existence of strong solution to the class of stochastic Volterra equations of convolution type. We provide regularity of stochastic convolution, as well.
The aim of this note is to provide some results for stochastic convolutions corresponding to stochastic Volterra equations in separable Hilbert space. We study convolution of the form $W^Ψ(t):=\int_0^t S(t-τ)Ψ(τ)dW(τ)$, $t\geq 0$, where $S(t), t\geq 0$, is so-called {\em resolvent} for Volterra equation considered,$Ψ$ is an appropriate process and $W$ is a cylindrical Wiener process.
We consider stochastic Volterra integral equations driven by a fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter H > 1/2 . We first derive supremum norm estimates for the solution and its Malliavin derivative. We then show existence and smoothness of the density under suitable nondegeneracy conditions. This extends the results in Hu-Nualart and Nualart-Saussereau where stochastic differential equations driven by fractional Brownian motion are considered. The proof uses a priori estimates for deterministic differential equations driven by a function in a suitable Sobolev space.
In the paper regularity of solutions to stochastic Volterra equations in a separable Hilbert space is studied. Sufficient conditions for the temporal and spatial regularity of stochastic convolutions corresponding to the equations under consideration are provided. The results obtained generalize some well-known regularity results for solutions to stochastic differential equations. The paper is a continuation of previous author's papers concerning stochastic Volterra equations.
Recently, it has been shown that stochastic spatial Lotka-Volterra models when suitably rescaled can converge to a super Brownian motion. We show that the limit process could be a super stable process if the kernel of the underlying motion is in the domain of attraction of a stable law. The corresponding results in Brownian setting were proved by Cox and Perkins (2005, 2008). As applications of the convergence theorems, some new results on the asymptotics of the voter model started from single 1 at the origin are obtained which improve the results by Bramson and Griffeath (1980).
Motivated by the potential applications to the fractional Brownianmotion, we study Volterra stochasticdifferential of the form~:\begin{equation}X\_t = x+ \int\_0^tK(t,s)b(s,X\_s)ds + \int\_0^tK(t,s) σ(s,X\_s)\,dB\_s ,\tag{E} \label{eq:sdefbm}\end{equation}where $(B\_s, \, s\in [0,1])$ is a one-dimensional standard Brownianmotion and $(K(t,s), \, t,s \in [0,1])$ is a deterministic kernelwhose properties will be precised below but for which we don't assumeany boundedness property.
This work concerns stochastic Volterra equations with singular kernels. Under the suitable conditions, we prove the central limit theorem for them. Moreover, we apply our result to stochastic Volterra equations with the kernels of fractional Brownian motions with the Hurst parameter $H\in(0, 1)$.
We study the existence and uniqueness of solutions to stochastic differential equations with Volterra processes driven by Lévy noise. For this purpose, we study in detail smoothness properties of these processes. Special attention is given to two kinds of Volterra-Gaussian processes that generalize the compact interval representation of fractional Brownian motion and to stochastic equations with such processes.
We define and solve Volterra equations driven by an irregular signal, by means of a variant of the rough path theory allowing to handle generalized integrals weighted by an exponential coefficient. The results are applied to the fractional Brownian motion with Hurst coefficient greater than 1/3
We consider Volterra Gaussian processes on [0,T], where T>0 is a fixed time horizon. These are processes of type X_t=\int^t_0 z_X(t,s)dW_s, t\in[0,T], where z_X is a square-integrable kernel, and W is a standard Brownian motion. An example is fractional Brownian motion. By using classical techniques from operator theory, we derive measure-preserving transformations of X, and their inherently related bridges of X. As a closely connected result, we obtain a Fourier-Laguerre series expansion for the first Wiener chaos of a Gaussian martingale over [0,\infty).
We consider stochastic differential equations driven by some Volterra processes. Under time reversal, these equations are transformed into past dependent stochastic differential equations driven by a standard Brownian motion. We are then in position to derive existence and uniqueness of solutions of the Volterra driven SDE considered at the beginning.
The purpose of this paper is to establish the multivariate normal convergence for the average of certain Volterra processes constructed from a fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter H>1/2. Some applications to parameter estimation are then discussed.
The purpose of this paper is to establish the convergence in distribution of the normalized error in the Euler approximation scheme for stochastic Volterra equations driven by a standard Brownian motion, with a kernel of the form $(t-s)^α$, where $α\in (-\frac 12, \frac 12)$.
We present an explicit solution triplet $(Y, Z, K)$ to the backward stochastic Volterra integral equation (BSVIE) of linear type, driven by a Brownian motion and a compensated Poisson random measure. The process $Y$ is expressed by an integral whose kernel is explicitly given. The processes $Z$ and $K$ are expressed by Hida-Malliavin derivatives involving $Y$.
The aim of this work is to present, in self-contained form, results concerning fundamental and the most important questions related to linear stochastic Volterra equations of convolution type. The paper is devoted to study the existence and some kind of regularity of solutions to stochastic Volterra equations in Hilbert space and the space of tempered distributions, as well. In recent years the theory of Volterra equations, particularly fractional ones, has undergone a big development. This is an emerging area of research with interesting mathematical questions and various important applicatio…
In this paper, we study backward stochastic Volterra integral equations introduced in [26, 45] and extend the existence, uniqueness or comparison results for general filtration as in [31] (not only Brownian-Poisson setting). We also consider Lp-data and explore the time regularity of the solution in the It{ô} setting, which is also new in this jump setting.
We study the regular conditional law of mixed Gaussian Volterra processes under the influence of model disturbances. More precisely, we study prediction of Gaussian Volterra processes driven by a Brownian motion in a case where the Brownian motion is not observable, but only a noisy version is observed. As an application, we discuss how our result can be applied to variance reduction in the presence of measurement errors.
Stochastic Volterra integral equations with jumps (SVIEs) have become very common and widely used in numerous branches of science, due to their connections with mathematical finance, biology, engineering and so on. In this paper, we apply the successive approximation method to investigate the existence and uniqueness of solutions to the SVIEs driven by Brownian motion and compensated Poisson random measure under non-Lipschitz condition.
Space-time regularity of linear stochastic partial differential equations is studied. The solution is defined in the mild sense in the state space $L^p$. The corresponding regularity is obtained by showing that the stochastic convolution integrals are Hölder continuous in a suitable function space. In particular cases, this allows to show space-time Hölder continuity of the solution. The main tool used is a hypercontractivity result on Banach-space valued random variables in a finite Wiener chaos.
The theory of affine processes has been recently extended to the framework of stochastic Volterra equations with continuous trajectories. These so-called affine Volterra processes overcome modeling shortcomings of affine processes because they can have trajectories whose regularity is different from the regularity of the paths of Brownian motion. More specifically, singular kernels yield rough affine processes. This paper extends the theory by considering affine stochastic Volterra equations with jumps. This extension is not straightforward because the jump structure together with possible sin…
Explicit solutions for a class of linear backward stochastic differential equations (BSDE) driven by Gaussian Volterra processes are given. These processes include the multifractional brownian motion and the multifractional Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process. By an Itô formula, proven in the context of Malliavin calculus, the BSDE is associated to a linear second order partial differential equation with terminal condition whose solution is given by a Feynman-Kac type formula. An application to self-financing trading strategies is discussed.
We obtain general weak existence and stability results for stochastic convolution equations with jumps under mild regularity assumptions, allowing for non-Lipschitz coefficients and singular kernels. Our approach relies on weak convergence in $L^p$ spaces. The main tools are new a priori estimates on Sobolev-Slobodeckij norms of the solution, as well as a novel martingale problem that is equivalent to the original equation. This leads to generic approximation and stability theorems in the spirit of classical martingale problem theory. We also prove uniqueness and path regularity of solutions u…
We study solutions of a class of one-dimensional continuous reflected backward stochastic Volterra integral equations driven by Brownian motion, where the reflection keeps the solution above a given stochastic process (lower obstacle). We prove existence and uniqueness by a fixed point argument and we derive a comparison result. Moreover, we show how the solution of our problem is related to a time-inconsistent optimal stopping problem and derive an optimal strategy.
In this paper, we study a class of backward stochastic Volterra integral equations driven by Teugels martingales associated with an independent Lévy process and an independent Brownian motion (BSVIELs). We prove the existence and uniqueness as well as stability of the adapted M-solutions for those equations. Moreover, a duality principle and then a comparison theorem are established. As an application, we derive a class of dynamic risk measures by means of M-solutions of certain BSVIELs.
We introduce affine Volterra processes, defined as solutions of certain stochastic convolution equations with affine coefficients. Classical affine diffusions constitute a special case, but affine Volterra processes are neither semimartingales, nor Markov processes in general. We provide explicit exponential-affine representations of the Fourier-Laplace functional in terms of the solution of an associated system of deterministic integral equations of convolution type, extending well-known formulas for classical affine diffusions. For specific state spaces, we prove existence, uniqueness, and i…
We consider a stochastic Volterra integral equation with regular path-dependent coefficients and a Brownian motion as integrator in a multidimensional setting. Under an imposed absolute continuity condition, the unique solution is a semimartingale that admits almost surely Hölder continuous paths. Based on functional Itô calculus, we prove that the support of its law in the Hölder norm can be described by a flow of mild solutions to ordinary integro-differential equations that are constructed by means of the vertical derivative of the diffusion coefficient.
We define and solve Volterra equations driven by an irregular signal, by means of a variant of the rough path theory called algebraic integration. In the Young case, that is for a driving signal with Hölder exponent greater than 1/2, we obtain a global solution, and are able to handle the case of a singular Volterra coefficient. In case of a driving signal with Hölder exponent in (1/3,1/2], we get a local existence and uniqueness theorem. The results are easily applied to the fractional Brownian motion with Hurst coefficient H>1/3.
In the paper we study stochastic convolution appearing in Volterra equation driven by so called Lévy process. By Lévy process we mean a process with homogeneous independent increments, continuous in probability and cadlag.
In this paper, we first study the existence-uniqueness and large deviation estimate of solutions for stochastic Volterra integral equations with singular kernels in 2-smooth Banach spaces. Then, we apply them to a large class of semilinear stochastic partial differential equations (SPDE) driven by Brownian motions as well as by fractional Brownian motions, and obtain the existence of unique maximal strong solutions (in the sense of SDE and PDE) under local Lipschitz conditions. Lastly, high order SPDEs in a bounded domain of Euclidean space, second order SPDEs on complete Riemannian manifolds,…
The first passage time problem for Brownian motions hitting a barrier has been extensively studied in the literature. In particular, many incarnations of integral equations which link the density of the hitting time to the equation for the barrier itself have appeared. Most interestingly, Peskir(2002b) demonstrates that a master integral equation can be used to generate a countable number of new equations via differentiation or integration by parts. In this article, we generalize Peskir's results and provide a more powerful unifying framework for generating integral equations through a new cla…
We extend recent results on affine Volterra processes to the inhomogeneous case. This includes moment bounds of solutions of Volterra equations driven by a Brownian motion with an inhomogeneous kernel $K(t,s)$ and inhomogeneous drift and diffusion coefficients $b(s,X_s)$ and $σ(s,X_s)$. In the case of affine $b$ and $σσ^T$ we show how the conditional Fourier-Laplace functional can be represented by a solution of an inhomogeneous Riccati-Volterra integral equation. For a kernel of convolution type $K(t,s)=\overline{K}(t-s)$ we establish existence of a solution to the stochastic inhomogeneous Vo…
In the paper stochastic Volterra equations of nonscalar type in Hilbert space are studied. The aim of the paper is to provide some results on stochastic convolution and mild solutions to those Volterra equations. The motivation of the paper comes from a model of aging viscoelastic materials. The pseudo-resolvent approach is used.
We define weighted fractional Brownian sheets, which are a class of Gaussian random fields with four parameters that include fractional Brownian sheets as special cases, and we give some of their properties. We show that for certain values of the parameters the weighted fractional Brownian sheets are obtained as limits in law of occupation time fluctuations of a stochastic particle model. In contrast with some known approximations of fractional Brownian sheets which use a kernel in a Volterra type integral representation of fractional Brownian motion with respect to ordinary Brownian motion, o…
We consider so-called regular invertible Gaussian Volterra processes and derive a formula for their prediction laws. Examples of such processes include the fractional Brownian motions and the mixed fractional Brownian motions. As an application, we consider conditional-mean hedging under transaction costs in Black-Scholes type pricing models where the Brownian motion is replaced with a more general regular invertible Gaussian Volterra process.
We consider a class of linear Volterra transforms of Brownian motion associated to a sequence of Müntz Gaussian spaces and determine explicitly their kernels; some interesting links with Müntz-Legendre polynomials are provided. This gives new explicit examples of progressive Gaussian enlargement of the Brownian filtration. By exploiting a link to stationarity, we give a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of kernels of infinite order associated to an infinite dimensional Müntz Gaussian space; we also examine when the transformed Brownian motion remains a semimartingale in the …
We define a class of functions which have a known decay rate coupled with a periodic fluctuation. We identify conditions on the kernel of a linear summation convolution Volterra equation which give the equivalence of the kernel lying in this class of functions and the solution lying in this class of functions. Some specific examples are examined. In particular this theory is used to provide a counter--example to a result regarding the rate of decay of the auto--covariance function of an ARCH($\infty$) process.
We derive a generalised Itō formula for stochastic processes which are constructed by a convolution of a deterministic kernel with a centred Lévy process. This formula has a unifying character in the sense that it contains the classical Itō formula for Lévy processes as well as recent change-of-variable formulas for Gaussian processes such as fractional Brownian motion as special cases. Our result also covers fractional Lévy processes (with Mandelbrot-Van Ness kernel) and a wide class of related processes for which such a generalised Itō formula has not yet been available in the literature.
We introduce a pathwise integration for Volterra processes driven by Lévy noise or martingale noise. These processes are widely used in applications to turbulence, signal processes, biology, and in environmental finance. Indeed they constitute a very flexible class of models, which include fractional Brownian and Lévy motions and it is part of the so-called ambit fields. A pathwise integration with respect of such Volterra processes aims at producing a framework where modelling is easily understandable from an information perspective. The techniques used are based on fractional calculus and in…
This article is devoted to the extension of the theory of rough paths in the context of Volterra equations with possibly singular kernels. We begin to describe a class of two parameter functions defined on the simplex called Volterra paths. These paths are used to construct a so-called Volterra-signature, analogously to the signature used in Lyon's theory of rough paths. We provide a detailed algebraic and analytic description of this object. Interestingly, the Volterra signature does not have a multiplicative property similar to the classical signature, and we introduce an integral product be…
