The purpose of this paper is to establish the convergence in distribution of the normalized error in the Euler approximation scheme for stochastic Volterra equations driven by a standard Brownian motion, with a kernel of the form $(t-s)^α$, where $α\in (-\frac 12, \frac 12)$.
In this paper, we are interested in comparing solutions to stochastic Volterra equations for the convex order on the space of continuous $\R^d$-valued paths and for the monotonic convex order when $d=1$. Even if in general these solutions are neither semi-martingales nor Markov processes, we are able to exhibit conditions on their coefficients enabling the comparison. Our approach consists in first comparing their Euler schemes and then taking the limit as the time step vanishes. We consider two types of Euler schemes depending on the way the Volterra kernels are discretized. The conditions en…
In this paper, we study backward doubly stochastic integral equations of the Volterra type (BDSIEVs in short). Under uniform Lipschitz assumptions, we establish an existence and uniqueness result.
We study uniqueness for a class of Volterra-type stochastic integral equations. We focus on the case of non-Lipschitz noise coefficients. The connection of these equations to certain degenerate stochastic partial differential equations plays a key role.
In this paper we obtain an Itô differential representation for a class of singular stochastic Volterra integral equations. As an application, we investigate the rate of convergence in the small time central limit theorem for the solution.
This note aims to give an explicit solution for backward stochastic Volterra integral equations with linear time delayed generators. The process $Y$ is expressed by an integral whose kernel is explicitly given. The processes $Z$ is expressed by Hida-Malliavin derivatives involving $Y$.
We introduce and study a new type of integral equations called anticipating backward stochastic Volterra integral equations (anticipating BSVIEs). In these equations the generator involves not only the present values but also the future values of the solutions. We obtain the existence and uniqueness theorem and a comparison theorem for the solutions to these anticipating BSVIEs.
We define and solve Volterra equations driven by an irregular signal, by means of a variant of the rough path theory allowing to handle generalized integrals weighted by an exponential coefficient. The results are applied to the fractional Brownian motion with Hurst coefficient greater than 1/3
This paper aims to study a new class of integral equations called backward doubly stochastic Volterra integral equations (BDSVIEs, for short). The notion of symmetrical martingale solutions (SM-solutions, for short) is introduced for BDSVIEs. And the existence and uniqueness theorem for BDSVIEs in the sense of SM-solutions is established.
In this paper, we study backward stochastic Volterra integral equations introduced in [26, 45] and extend the existence, uniqueness or comparison results for general filtration as in [31] (not only Brownian-Poisson setting). We also consider Lp-data and explore the time regularity of the solution in the It{ô} setting, which is also new in this jump setting.
Backward stochastic Volterra integral equations (BSVIEs in short) are studied. We introduce the notion of adapted symmetrical solutions (S-solutions in short), which are different from the M-solutions introduced by Yong [17]. We also give some new results for them. At last a class of dynamic coherent risk measures were derived via certain BSVIEs.
Stochastic Volterra integral equations with jumps (SVIEs) have become very common and widely used in numerous branches of science, due to their connections with mathematical finance, biology, engineering and so on. In this paper, we apply the successive approximation method to investigate the existence and uniqueness of solutions to the SVIEs driven by Brownian motion and compensated Poisson random measure under non-Lipschitz condition.
For backward stochastic Volterra integral equations (BSVIEs) in multi-dimensional Euclidean spaces, comparison theorems are established in a systematic way for the adapted solutions and adapted M-solutions. For completeness, comparison theorems for (forward) stochastic differential equations, backward stochastic differential equations, and (forward) stochastic Volterra integral equations (FSVIEs) are also presented. Duality principles are used in some relevant proofs. Also, it is found that certain kind of monotonicity conditions play crucial roles to guarantee the comparison theorems for FSVI…
In this paper, we provide variation of constants formulae for linear (forward) stochastic Volterra integral equations (SVIEs, for short) and linear Type-II backward stochastic Volterra integral equations (BSVIEs, for short) in the usual Itô's framework. For these purposes, we define suitable classes of stochastic Volterra kernels and introduce new notions of the products of adapted $L^2$-processes. Observing the algebraic properties of the products, we obtain the variation of constants formulae by means of the corresponding resolvent. Our framework includes SVIEs with singular kernels such as …
We study solutions of a class of one-dimensional continuous reflected backward stochastic Volterra integral equations driven by Brownian motion, where the reflection keeps the solution above a given stochastic process (lower obstacle). We prove existence and uniqueness by a fixed point argument and we derive a comparison result. Moreover, we show how the solution of our problem is related to a time-inconsistent optimal stopping problem and derive an optimal strategy.
In this paper, we study a class of backward stochastic Volterra integral equations driven by Teugels martingales associated with an independent Lévy process and an independent Brownian motion (BSVIELs). We prove the existence and uniqueness as well as stability of the adapted M-solutions for those equations. Moreover, a duality principle and then a comparison theorem are established. As an application, we derive a class of dynamic risk measures by means of M-solutions of certain BSVIELs.
This paper is devoted to the unique solvability of backward stochastic Volterra integral equations (BSVIEs for short), in terms of both M-solution introduced in [15] and the adapted solutions in [6], [11]. We prove the existence and uniqueness of M-solutions of BSVIEs in Lp (1<p<2), which extends the results in [15]. The unique solvability of adapted solutions of BSVIEs in Lp (p>1) is also considered, which also generalize the results in [6] and [11].
In this paper, we establish the relationship between backward stochastic Volterra integral equations (BSVIEs, for short) and a kind of non-local quasilinear (and possibly degenerate) parabolic equations. We first introduce the extended backward stochastic Volterra integral equations (EBSVIEs, for short). Under some mild conditions, we establish the well-posedness of EBSVIEs and obtain some regularity results of the adapted solution to the EBSVIEs via Malliavin calculus. We show that a given function expressed in terms of the solution to the EBSVIEs solves a certain system of non-local paraboli…
We investigate stochastic Volterra equations and their limiting laws. The stochastic Volterra equations we consider are driven by a Hilbert space valued \Levy noise and integration kernels may have non-linear dependence on the current state of the process. Our method is based on an embedding into a Hilbert space of functions which allows to represent the solution of the Volterra equation as the boundary value of a solution to a stochastic partial differential equation. We first gather abstract results and give more detailed conditions in more specific function spaces.
We consider a stochastic Volterra integral equation with regular path-dependent coefficients and a Brownian motion as integrator in a multidimensional setting. Under an imposed absolute continuity condition, the unique solution is a semimartingale that admits almost surely Hölder continuous paths. Based on functional Itô calculus, we prove that the support of its law in the Hölder norm can be described by a flow of mild solutions to ordinary integro-differential equations that are constructed by means of the vertical derivative of the diffusion coefficient.
In this paper, we study backward stochastic Volterra integral equations of type-I with time delayed generators. Under some condition (small time horizon or a Lipschitz constant), we derive an existence and uniqueness results. Next, with the help of two examples of this BSVIEs we provide this condition is necessary. However, for special class of delayed generators, the previous existence and uniqueness result hold for an arbitrary time horizon and Lipschitz constant. We end this paper by establishing under an additive assumptions, a path continuity property.
In this note we prove an existence and uniqueness result of solution for stochastic Volterra integral equations driven by a fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter H > 1/2, showing also that the solution has finite moments. The stochastic integral with respect to the fractional Brownian motion is a pathwise Riemann-Stieltjes integral.
Complementary regularity between the integrand and integrator is a well known condition for the integral $\int_0^T f(r) \, \mathrm{d} g(r)$ to exist in the Riemann-Stieltjes sense. This condition also applies to the multi-dimensional case, in particular the 2D integral $\int_{[0, T]^2} f(s,t) \, \mathrm{d} g(s,t)$. In the paper, we give a new condition for the existence of the integral under the assumption that the integrator $g$ is a Volterra covariance function. We introduce the notion of strong Hölder bi-continuity, and show that if the integrand possess this property, the assumption on com…
For backward stochastic Volterra integral equations (BSVIEs, for short), under some mild conditions, the so-called adapted solutions or adapted M-solutions uniquely exist. However, satisfactory regularity of the solutions is difficult to obtain in general. Inspired by the decoupling idea of forward-backward stochastic differential equations, in this paper, for a class of BSVIEs, a representation of adapted M-solutions is established by means of the so-called representation partial differential equations and (forward) stochastic differential equations. Well-posedness of the representation parti…
We consider stochastic Volterra integral equations driven by a fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter H > 1/2 . We first derive supremum norm estimates for the solution and its Malliavin derivative. We then show existence and smoothness of the density under suitable nondegeneracy conditions. This extends the results in Hu-Nualart and Nualart-Saussereau where stochastic differential equations driven by fractional Brownian motion are considered. The proof uses a priori estimates for deterministic differential equations driven by a function in a suitable Sobolev space.
Backward stochastic differential equations (BSDEs) belong nowadays to the most frequently studied equations in stochastic analysis and computational stochastics. In this paper we prove that Picard iterations of BSDEs with globally Lipschitz continuous nonlinearities converge exponentially fast to the solution. Our main result in this paper is to establish a fundamental lemma to prove the global existence and uniqueness of an adapted solution to a singular backward stochastic nonlinear Volterra integral equation (for short singular BSVIE) of order $α\in (\frac{1}{2},1)$ under a weaker condition…
We consider convolution-type stochastic Volterra equations with additive Hilbert-valued fractional Brownian motion, $0<H<1$. We find the weak solution to this stochastic Volterra equation, and study its stochastic integral part, the stochastic convolution, which we show to be mean-zero Gaussian. We develop an Itô isometry for stochastic integrals with respect to a Hilbert-valued fractional Brownian motion, and use it to compute the covariance of the stochastic convolution. This formula, which uses fractional integrals and derivatives, generalizes the well-known formula from the case $H=1/2$.
We present an explicit solution triplet $(Y, Z, K)$ to the backward stochastic Volterra integral equation (BSVIE) of linear type, driven by a Brownian motion and a compensated Poisson random measure. The process $Y$ is expressed by an integral whose kernel is explicitly given. The processes $Z$ and $K$ are expressed by Hida-Malliavin derivatives involving $Y$.
Space-time regularity of linear stochastic partial differential equations is studied. The solution is defined in the mild sense in the state space $L^p$. The corresponding regularity is obtained by showing that the stochastic convolution integrals are Hölder continuous in a suitable function space. In particular cases, this allows to show space-time Hölder continuity of the solution. The main tool used is a hypercontractivity result on Banach-space valued random variables in a finite Wiener chaos.
In this paper, a systematic investigation is carried out for the general solvability of multi-dimensional backward stochastic Volterra integral equations (BSVIEs) with the generators being super-linear in the adjustment variable $Z$. Two major situations are discussed: (i) When the free term is bounded with the dependence of the generator on $Z$ being of ``diagonally strictly'' quadratic growth and being sub-quadratically coupled with off-diagonal components; (ii) When the free term is unbounded having exponential moments of arbitrary order with the dependence of the generator on $Z$ being dia…
This papers develops a stochastic integration theory with respect to volatility modulated Lévy-driven Volterra (VMLV) processes. It extends recent results in the literature to allow for stochastic volatility and pure jump processes in the integrator. The new integration operator is based on Malliavin calculus and describes an anticipative integral. Fundamental properties of the integral are derived and important applications are given.
In this paper, we study a class of Type-II backward stochastic Volterra integral equations (BSVIEs). For the adapted M-solutions, we obtain two approximation results, namely, a BSDE approximation and a numerical approximation. The BSDE approximation means that the solution of a finite system of backward stochastic differential equations (BSDEs) converges to the adapted M-solution of the original equation. As a consequence of the BSDE approximation, we obtain an estimate for the $L^2$-time regularity of the adapted M-solutions of Type-II BSVIEs. For the numerical approximation, we provide a bac…
We construct the basis of a stochastic calculus for so-called Volterra processes, i.e., processes which are defined as the stochastic integral of a time-dependent kernel with respect to a standard Brownian motion. For these processes which are natural generalization of fractional Brownian motion, we construct a stochastic integral and show some of its main properties: regularity with respect to time and kernel, transformation under an absolutely continuous change of probability, possible approximation schemes and Ito formula.
We investigate the probabilistic and analytic properties of Volterra processes constructed as pathwise integrals of deterministic kernels with respect to the Hölder continuous trajectories of Hilbert-valued Gaussian processes. To this end, we extend the Volterra sewing lemma from \cite{HarangTindel} to the two dimensional case, in order to construct two dimensional operator-valued Volterra integrals of Young type. We prove that the covariance operator associated to infinite dimensional Volterra processes can be represented by such a two dimensional integral, which extends the current notion of…
We study discrete-time simulation schemes for stochastic Volterra equations, namely the Euler and Milstein schemes, and the corresponding Multi-Level Monte-Carlo method. By using and adapting some results from Zhang [22], together with the Garsia-Rodemich-Rumsey lemma, we obtain the convergence rates of the Euler scheme and Milstein scheme under the supremum norm. We then apply these schemes to approximate the expectation of functionals of such Volterra equations by the (Multi-Level) Monte-Carlo method, and compute their complexity.
Backward doubly stochastic Volterra integral equations (BDSVIEs, for short) are introduced and studied systematically. Well-posedness of BDSVIEs in the sense of introduced M-solutions is established. A comparison theorem for BDSVIEs is proved. By virtue of the comparison theorem, we derive the existence of solutions for BDSVIEs with continuous coefficients. Furthermore, a duality principle between linear (forward) doubly stochastic Volterra integral equation (FDSVIE, for short) and BDSVIE is obtained. A Pontryagin type maximum principle is also established for an optimal control problem of FDS…
Volterra processes appear in several applications ranging from turbulence to energy finance where they are used in the modelling of e.g. temperatures and wind and the related financial derivatives. Volterra processes are in general non-semimartingales and a theory of integration with respect to such processes is in fact not standard. In this work we suggest to construct an approximating sequence of Lévy driven Volterra processes, by perturbation of the kernel function. In this way, one can obtain an approximating sequence of semimartingales. Then we consider fractional integration with respect…
We establish existence and uniqueness for infinite dimensional Riccati equations taking values in the Banach space L 1 ($μ$ $\otimes$ $μ$) for certain signed matrix measures $μ$ which are not necessarily finite. Such equations can be seen as the infinite dimensional analogue of matrix Riccati equations and they appear in the Linear-Quadratic control theory of stochastic Volterra equations.
In this paper, we study extended backward stochastic Volterra integral equations (EBSVIEs, for short). We establish the well-posedness under weaker assumptions than the literature, and prove a new kind of regularity property for the solutions. As an application, we investigate, in the open-loop framework, a time-inconsistent stochastic recursive control problem where the cost functional is defined by the solution to a backward stochastic Volterra integral equation (BSVIE, for short). We show that the corresponding adjoint equations become EBSVIEs, and provide a necessary and sufficient conditi…
This paper formulates and studies a stochastic maximum principle for forward-backward stochastic Volterra integral equations (FBSVIEs in short), while the control area is assumed to be convex. Then a linear quadratic (LQ in short) problem for backward stochastic Volterra integral equations (BSVIEs in short) is present to illustrate the aforementioned optimal control problem. Motivated by the technical skills in solving above problem, a more convenient and briefer method for the unique solvability of M-solution for BSVIEs is proposed. At last, we will investigate a risk minimization problem by …
In this work, we develop a multifactor approximation for $d$-dimensional Stochastic Volterra Equations (SVE) with Lipschitz coefficients and kernels of completely monotone type that may be singular. First, we prove an $L^2$-estimation between two SVEs with different kernels, which provides a quantification of the error between the SVE and any multifactor Stochastic Differential Equation (SDE) approximation. For the particular rough kernel case with Hurst parameter lying in $(0,1/2)$, we propose various approximating multifactor kernels, state their rates of convergence and illustrate their eff…
We study a novel general class of multidimensional type-I backward stochastic Volterra integral equations. Toward this goal, we introduce an infinite dimensional system of standard backward SDEs and establish its well-posedness, and we show that it is equivalent to that of a type-I backward stochastic Volterra integral equation. We also establish a representation formula in terms of non-linear semilinear partial differential equation of Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman type. As an application, we consider the study of time-inconsistent stochastic control from a game-theoretic point of view. We show the…
In this paper, we prove both necessary and sufficient maximum principles for infinite horizon discounted control problems of stochastic Volterra integral equations with finite delay and a convex control domain. The corresponding adjoint equation is a novel class of infinite horizon anticipated backward stochastic Volterra integral equations. Our results can be applied to discounted control problems of stochastic delay differential equations and fractional stochastic delay differential equations. As an example, we consider a stochastic linear-quadratic regulator problem for a delayed fractional…
In this paper we study the unique solvability of backward stochastic Volterra integral equations (BSVIEs in short), in terms of both the M-solutions introduced in [17] and the adapted solutions in [6], [12] or [14]. A general existence and uniqueness of M-solutions is proved under non-Lipschitz conditions by virtue of a briefer argument than the one in [17], which also extends the results in [17]. For the adapted solutions, the unique solvability of BSVIEs, under more general stochastic non-Lipschitz conditions, is obtained which generalizes the results in [6], [12] and [14].
