We construct the basis of a stochastic calculus for so-called Volterra processes, i.e., processes which are defined as the stochastic integral of a time-dependent kernel with respect to a standard Brownian motion. For these processes which are natural generalization of fractional Brownian motion, we construct a stochastic integral and show some of its main properties: regularity with respect to time and kernel, transformation under an absolutely continuous change of probability, possible approximation schemes and Ito formula.
This papers develops a stochastic integration theory with respect to volatility modulated Lévy-driven Volterra (VMLV) processes. It extends recent results in the literature to allow for stochastic volatility and pure jump processes in the integrator. The new integration operator is based on Malliavin calculus and describes an anticipative integral. Fundamental properties of the integral are derived and important applications are given.
We define and solve Volterra equations driven by an irregular signal, by means of a variant of the rough path theory called algebraic integration. In the Young case, that is for a driving signal with Hölder exponent greater than 1/2, we obtain a global solution, and are able to handle the case of a singular Volterra coefficient. In case of a driving signal with Hölder exponent in (1/3,1/2], we get a local existence and uniqueness theorem. The results are easily applied to the fractional Brownian motion with Hurst coefficient H>1/3.
This paper generalizes the integration theory for volatility modulated Brownian-driven Volterra processes onto the space G* of Potthoff-Timpel distributions. Sufficient conditions for integrability of generalized processes are given, regularity results and properties of the integral are discussed. We introduce a new volatility modulation method through the Wick product and discuss its relation to the pointwise-multiplied volatility model.
We introduce a pathwise integration for Volterra processes driven by Lévy noise or martingale noise. These processes are widely used in applications to turbulence, signal processes, biology, and in environmental finance. Indeed they constitute a very flexible class of models, which include fractional Brownian and Lévy motions and it is part of the so-called ambit fields. A pathwise integration with respect of such Volterra processes aims at producing a framework where modelling is easily understandable from an information perspective. The techniques used are based on fractional calculus and in…
We treat a stochastic integration theory for a class of Hilbert-valued, volatility-modulated, conditionally Gaussian Volterra processes. We apply techniques from Malliavin calculus to define this stochastic integration as a sum of a Skorohod integral, where the integrand is obtained by applying an operator to the original integrand, and a correction term involving the Malliavin derivative of the same altered integrand, integrated against the Lebesgue measure. The resulting integral satisfies many of the expected properties of a stochastic integral, including an Itô formula. Moreover, we derive…
In this paper we develop a Malliavin-Skorohod type calculus for additive processes in the $L^0$ and $L^1$ settings, extending the probabilistic interpretation of the Malliavin-Skorohod operators to this context. We prove calculus rules and obtain a generalization of the Clark-Hausmann-Ocone formula for random variables in $L^1$. Our theory is then applied to extend the stochastic integration with respect to volatility modulated Lévy-driven Volterra processes recently introduced in the literature. Our work yields to substantially weaker conditions that permit to cover integration with respect, …
By using a simple method based on the fractional integration by parts, we prove the existence and the Besov regularity of the density for solutions to stochastic differential equations driven by an additive Gaussian Volterra process. We assume weak regularity conditions on the drift. Several examples of Gaussian Volterra noises are discussed.
We investigate stochastic Volterra equations and their limiting laws. The stochastic Volterra equations we consider are driven by a Hilbert space valued \Levy noise and integration kernels may have non-linear dependence on the current state of the process. Our method is based on an embedding into a Hilbert space of functions which allows to represent the solution of the Volterra equation as the boundary value of a solution to a stochastic partial differential equation. We first gather abstract results and give more detailed conditions in more specific function spaces.
Volterra processes appear in several applications ranging from turbulence to energy finance where they are used in the modelling of e.g. temperatures and wind and the related financial derivatives. Volterra processes are in general non-semimartingales and a theory of integration with respect to such processes is in fact not standard. In this work we suggest to construct an approximating sequence of Lévy driven Volterra processes, by perturbation of the kernel function. In this way, one can obtain an approximating sequence of semimartingales. Then we consider fractional integration with respect…
This paper is devoted to study a class of stochastic Volterra equations associated with fractional Brownian motion. We first prove the Driver type integration by parts formula and the shift Harnack type inequalities. As a direct application, we provide an alternative method to describe the regularities of the law of the solution. Secondly, by using the Malliavin calculus, the Bismut type derivative formula is established, which is then applied to the study of the gradient estimate and the strong Feller property. Finally, we establish the Talagrand type transportation cost inequalities for the …
Complementary regularity between the integrand and integrator is a well known condition for the integral $\int_0^T f(r) \, \mathrm{d} g(r)$ to exist in the Riemann-Stieltjes sense. This condition also applies to the multi-dimensional case, in particular the 2D integral $\int_{[0, T]^2} f(s,t) \, \mathrm{d} g(s,t)$. In the paper, we give a new condition for the existence of the integral under the assumption that the integrator $g$ is a Volterra covariance function. We introduce the notion of strong Hölder bi-continuity, and show that if the integrand possess this property, the assumption on com…
We introduce affine Volterra processes, defined as solutions of certain stochastic convolution equations with affine coefficients. Classical affine diffusions constitute a special case, but affine Volterra processes are neither semimartingales, nor Markov processes in general. We provide explicit exponential-affine representations of the Fourier-Laplace functional in terms of the solution of an associated system of deterministic integral equations of convolution type, extending well-known formulas for classical affine diffusions. For specific state spaces, we prove existence, uniqueness, and i…
In this article we give necessary and sufficient conditions providing regularity of solutions to stochastic Volterra equations with infinite delay on a $d$-dimensional torus. The harmonic analysis techniques and stochastic integration in function spaces are used. The work applies to both the stochastic heat and wave equations.
In this note we prove an existence and uniqueness result of solution for stochastic Volterra integral equations driven by a fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter H > 1/2, showing also that the solution has finite moments. The stochastic integral with respect to the fractional Brownian motion is a pathwise Riemann-Stieltjes integral.
We consider convolution-type stochastic Volterra equations with additive Hilbert-valued fractional Brownian motion, $0<H<1$. We find the weak solution to this stochastic Volterra equation, and study its stochastic integral part, the stochastic convolution, which we show to be mean-zero Gaussian. We develop an Itô isometry for stochastic integrals with respect to a Hilbert-valued fractional Brownian motion, and use it to compute the covariance of the stochastic convolution. This formula, which uses fractional integrals and derivatives, generalizes the well-known formula from the case $H=1/2$.
We investigate nonlinear stochastic Volterra equations in space and time that are driven by Lévy bases. Under a Lipschitz condition on the nonlinear term, we give existence and uniqueness criteria in weighted function spaces that depend on integrability properties of the kernel and the characteristics of the Lévy basis. Particular attention is devoted to equations with stationary solutions, or more generally, to equations with infinite memory, that is, where the time domain of integration starts at minus infinity. Here, in contrast to the case where time is positive, the usual integrability co…
This note is devoted to construct a rough path above a multidimensional fractional Brownian motion $B$ with any Hurst parameter $H\in(0,1)$, by means of its representation as a Volterra Gaussian process. This approach yields some algebraic and computational simplifications with respect to [Stochastic Process. Appl. 120 (2010) 1444--1472], where the construction of a rough path over $B$ was first introduced.
We investigate the probabilistic and analytic properties of Volterra processes constructed as pathwise integrals of deterministic kernels with respect to the Hölder continuous trajectories of Hilbert-valued Gaussian processes. To this end, we extend the Volterra sewing lemma from \cite{HarangTindel} to the two dimensional case, in order to construct two dimensional operator-valued Volterra integrals of Young type. We prove that the covariance operator associated to infinite dimensional Volterra processes can be represented by such a two dimensional integral, which extends the current notion of…
Motivated by the traditional Lotka-Volterra competitive models, this paper proposes and analyzes a class of stochastic reaction-diffusion partial differential equations. In contrast to the models in the literature, the new formulation enables spatial dependence of the species. In addition, the noise process is allowed to be space-time white noise. In this work, wellposedness, regularity of solutions, existence of density, and existence of an invariant measure for stochastic reaction-diffusion systems with non-Lipschitz and non-linear growth coefficients and multiplicative noise are considered.…
We study Volterra processes $X_t = \int_0^t K(t,s) dW_s$, where $W$ is a standard Wiener process, and the kernel has the form $K(t,s) = a(s) \int_s^t b(u) c(u-s) du$. This form generalizes the Volterra kernel for fractional Brownian motion (fBm) with Hurst index $H>1/2$. We establish smoothness properties of $X$, including continuity and Holder property. It happens that its Holder smoothness is close to well-known Holder smoothness of fBm but is a bit worse. We give a comparison with fBm for any smoothness theorem. Then we investigate the problem of inverse representation of $W$ via $X$ in the…
We study a two-dimensional process $(X, Y)$ arising as the unique nonnegative solution to a pair of stochastic differential equations driven by independent Brownian motions and compensated spectrally positive Lévy random measures. Both processes $X$ and $Y$ can be identified as continuous-state nonlinear branching processes where the evolution of $Y$ is negatively affected by $X$. Assuming that process $X$ extinguishes, i.e. it converges to $0$ but never reaches $0$ in finite time, and process $Y$ converges to $0$, we identify rather sharp conditions under which the process $Y$ exhibits, respe…
For an $\cF_T$-measurable payoff of a European type contingent claim, the recursive utility process/dynamic risk measure can be described by the adapted solution to a backward stochastic differential equation (BSDE). However, for an $\cF_T$-measurable stochastic process (called a position process, not necessarily $\dbF$-adapted), mimicking BSDE's approach will lead to a time-inconsistent recursive utility/dynamic risk measure. It is found that a more proper approach is to use the adapted solution to a backward stochastic Volterra integral equation (BSVIE). The corresponding notions are called …
This article is devoted to the extension of the theory of rough paths in the context of Volterra equations with possibly singular kernels. We begin to describe a class of two parameter functions defined on the simplex called Volterra paths. These paths are used to construct a so-called Volterra-signature, analogously to the signature used in Lyon's theory of rough paths. We provide a detailed algebraic and analytic description of this object. Interestingly, the Volterra signature does not have a multiplicative property similar to the classical signature, and we introduce an integral product be…
Given a solution $Y$ to a rough differential equation (RDE), a recent result [8] extends the classical Itö-Stratonovich formula and provides a closed-form expression for $\int Y \circ \mathrm{d} \mathbf{X} - \int Y \, \mathrm{d} X$, i.e. the difference between the rough and Skorohod integrals of $Y$ with respect to $X$, where $X$ is a Gaussian process with finite $p$-variation less than 3. In this paper, we extend this result to Gaussian processes with finite $p$-variation such that $3 \leq p < 4$. The constraint this time is that we restrict ourselves to Volterra Gaussian processes with kerne…
The first passage time problem for Brownian motions hitting a barrier has been extensively studied in the literature. In particular, many incarnations of integral equations which link the density of the hitting time to the equation for the barrier itself have appeared. Most interestingly, Peskir(2002b) demonstrates that a master integral equation can be used to generate a countable number of new equations via differentiation or integration by parts. In this article, we generalize Peskir's results and provide a more powerful unifying framework for generating integral equations through a new cla…
We price American options using kernel-based approximations of the Volterra Heston model. We choose these approximations because they allow simulation-based techniques for pricing. We prove the convergence of American option prices in the approximating sequence of models towards the prices in the Volterra Heston model. A crucial step in the proof is to exploit the affine structure of the model in order to establish explicit formulas and convergence results for the conditional Fourier-Laplace transform of the log price and an adjusted version of the forward variance. We illustrate with numerica…
In this paper we are concerned with a class of stochastic Volterra integro-differential problems with completely monotone kernels, where we assume that the noise enters the system when we introduce a control. We start by reformulating the state equation into a semilinear evolution equation which can be treated by semigroup methods. The application to optimal control provide other interesting result and require a precise descriprion of the properties of the generated semigroup. The first main result of the paper is the proof of existence and uniqueness of a mild solution for the corresponding H…
We provide a detailed analysis of the Gelfand integral on Fréchet spaces, showing among other things a Vitali theorem, dominated convergence and a Fubini result. Furthermore, the Gelfand integral commutes with linear operators. The Skorohod integral is conveniently expressed in terms of a Gelfand integral on Hida distribution space, which forms our prime motivation and example. We extend several results of Skorohod integrals to a general class of pathwise Gelfand integrals. For example, we provide generalizations of the Hida-Malliavin derivative and extend the integration-by-parts formula in M…
This paper deals with optimal combined singular and regular controls for stochastic Volterra integral equations, where the solution X^{u,ξ}(t)=X(t) is given by X(t) =ϕ(t)+\int_{0}^{t}}b(t,s,X(s),u(s)) ds+\int_{0}^{t}σ(t,s,X(s),u(s))dB(s) +\int _{0}^{t}\int_{0}^{t}h(t,s) dξ(s). Here dB(s) denotes the Brownian motion Itô type differential and ξdenotes the singular control (singular in time t with respect to Lebesgue measure) and u denotes the regular control (absolutely continuous with respect to Lebesgue measure). Such systems may for example be used to model harvesting of populations with memo…
In this work, we develop a multifactor approximation for $d$-dimensional Stochastic Volterra Equations (SVE) with Lipschitz coefficients and kernels of completely monotone type that may be singular. First, we prove an $L^2$-estimation between two SVEs with different kernels, which provides a quantification of the error between the SVE and any multifactor Stochastic Differential Equation (SDE) approximation. For the particular rough kernel case with Hurst parameter lying in $(0,1/2)$, we propose various approximating multifactor kernels, state their rates of convergence and illustrate their eff…
We establish an integration by parts formula based on jumps times in an abstract framework in order to study the regularity of the law for processes solution of stochastic differential equations with jumps.
We introduce a stochastic integral with respect to cylindrical Lévy processes with finite $p$-th weak moment for $p\in [1,2]$. The space of integrands consists of $p$-summing operators between Banach spaces of martingale type $p$. We apply the developed integration theory to establish the existence of a solution for a stochastic evolution equation driven by a cylindrical Lévy process.
In this work we introduce a theory of stochastic integration for operator-valued integrands with respect to some classes of cylindrical martingale-valued measures in Hilbert spaces. The integral is constructed via the radonification of cylindrical martingales by a Hilbert-Schmidt operator theorem and unifies several other theories of stochastic integration in Hilbert spaces. In particular, our theory covers the theory of stochastic integration with respect to a Hilbert space valued Lévy process (which is not required to satisfy any moment condition), with respect to a cylindrical Lévy processe…
For a parameter 0<q<1, we use the Jackson q-integral to define integration with respect to the so called q-Brownian motion. Our main results are the q-analogs of the L_2-isometry and of the Ito formula for polynomial integrands. We also indicate how the L_2-isometry extends the integral to more general functions.
The article is devoted to the integration order replacement technique for iterated Ito stochastic integrals and iterated stochastic integrals with respect to martingales. We consider the class of iterated Ito stochastic integrals, for which with probability 1 the formulas of integration order replacement corresponding to the rules of classical integral calculus are reasonable. The theorems on integration order replacement for the class of iterated Ito stochastic integrals is proven. Many examples of this theorems usage have been considered. These results are generalized for the class of iterat…
We show an It\^ o's formula for nondegenerate Brownian martingales $X_t=\int_0^t u_s dW_s$ and functions $F(x,t)$ with locally integrable derivatives in $t$ and $x$. We prove that one can express the additional term in Itô's s formula as an integral over space and time with respect to local time.
A cylindrical Levy process does not enjoy a cylindrical version of the semi-martingale decomposition which results in the need to develop a completely novel approach to stochastic integration. In this work, we introduce a stochastic integral for random integrands with respect to cylindrical Levy processes in Hilbert spaces. The space of admissible integrands consists of adapted stochastic processes with values in the space of Hilbert-Schmidt operators. Neither the integrands nor the integrator is required to satisfy any moment or boundedness condition. The integral process is characterised as …
In this work, we introduce a theory of stochastic integration with respect to symmetric $α$-stable cylindrical Lévy processes. Since $α$-stable cylindrical Lévy processes do not enjoy a semi-martingale decomposition, our approach is based on a decoupling inequality for the tangent sequence of the Radonified increments. This approach enables us to characterise the largest space of predictable Hilbert-Schmidt operator-valued processes which are integrable with respect to an $α$-stable cylindrical Lévy process as the collection of all predictable processes with paths in the Bochner space $L^α$. W…
In this work stochastic integration with respect to cylindrical Levy processes with weak second moments is introduced. It is well known that a deterministic Hilbert-Schmidt operator radonifies a cylindrical random variable, i.e. it maps a cylindrical random variable to a classical Hilbert space valued random variable. Our approach is based on a generalisation of this result to the radonification of the cylindrical increments of a cylindrical Levy process by random Hilbert-Schmidt operators. This generalisation enables us to introduce a Hilbert space valued random variable as the stochastic int…
In this article, we introduce a Lévy analogue of the spatially homogeneous Gaussian noise of Dalang (1999), and we construct a stochastic integral with respect to this noise. The spatial covariance of the noise is given by a tempered measure $μ$ on $\bR^d$, whose density is given by $|h|^2$ for a complex-valued function $h$. Without assuming that the Fourier transform of $μ$ is a non-negative function, we identify a large class of integrands with respect to this noise. As an application, we examine the linear stochastic heat and wave equations driven by this type of noise.
In this paper, we define a stochastic calculus with respect to the Rosenblatt process by means of white noise distribution theory. For this purpose, we compute the translated characteristic function of the Rosenblatt process at time $t>0$ in any direction $ξ\in S(\mathbb{R})$ and the derivative of the Rosenblatt process in the white noise sense. Using Wick multiplication by the former derivative and Pettis integration, we define our stochastic integral with respect to the Rosenblatt process for a wide class of distribution processes. We obtain an explicit formula for the variance of such a sto…
In this paper, based on the white noise analysis of square integrable pure-jump Levy process given by [1], we define the formal derivative of fractional Levy process defined by the square integrable pure-jump Levy process as the fractional Levy noises by considering fractional Levy process as the generalized functional of Levy process, and then we define the Skorohod integral with respect to the fractional Levy process. Moreover, we propose a class of stochastic Volterra equations driven by fractional Levy noises and investigate the existence and uniqueness of their solutions; In addition, we …
