We extend recent results on affine Volterra processes to the inhomogeneous case. This includes moment bounds of solutions of Volterra equations driven by a Brownian motion with an inhomogeneous kernel $K(t,s)$ and inhomogeneous drift and diffusion coefficients $b(s,X_s)$ and $σ(s,X_s)$. In the case of affine $b$ and $σσ^T$ we show how the conditional Fourier-Laplace functional can be represented by a solution of an inhomogeneous Riccati-Volterra integral equation. For a kernel of convolution type $K(t,s)=\overline{K}(t-s)$ we establish existence of a solution to the stochastic inhomogeneous Volterra equation. If in addition $b$ and $σσ^T$ are affine, we prove that the conditional Fourier-Laplace functional is exponential-affine in the past path. Finally, we apply these results to an inhomogeneous extension of the rough Heston model used in mathematical finance.
The theory of affine processes has been recently extended to the framework of stochastic Volterra equations with continuous trajectories. These so-called affine Volterra processes overcome modeling shortcomings of affine processes because they can have trajectories whose regularity is different from the regularity of the paths of Brownian motion. More specifically, singular kernels yield rough affine processes. This paper extends the theory by considering affine stochastic Volterra equations with jumps. This extension is not straightforward because the jump structure together with possible sin…
We introduce affine Volterra processes, defined as solutions of certain stochastic convolution equations with affine coefficients. Classical affine diffusions constitute a special case, but affine Volterra processes are neither semimartingales, nor Markov processes in general. We provide explicit exponential-affine representations of the Fourier-Laplace functional in terms of the solution of an associated system of deterministic integral equations of convolution type, extending well-known formulas for classical affine diffusions. For specific state spaces, we prove existence, uniqueness, and i…
We consider stochastic (partial) differential equations appearing as Markovian lifts of affine Volterra processes with jumps from the point of view of the generalized Feller property which was introduced in e.g.~\cite{doetei:10}. In particular we provide new existence, uniqueness and approximation results for Markovian lifts of affine rough volatility models of general jump diffusion type. We demonstrate that in this Markovian light the theory of stochastic Volterra processes becomes almost classical.

We characterize the Markovian and affine structure of the Volterra Heston model in terms of an infinite-dimensional adjusted forward process and specify its state space. More precisely, we show that it satisfies a stochastic partial differential equation and displays an exponentially-affine characteristic functional. As an application, we deduce an existence and uniqueness result for a Banach-space valued square-root process and provide its state space. This leads to another representation of the Volterra Heston model together with its Fourier-Laplace transform in terms of this possibly infini…
We consider stochastic partial differential equations appearing as Markovian lifts of matrix valued (affine) Volterra type processes from the point of view of the generalized Feller property (see e.g., \cite{doetei:10}). We introduce in particular Volterra Wishart processes with fractional kernels and values in the cone of positive semidefinite matrices. They are constructed from matrix products of infinite dimensional Ornstein Uhlenbeck processes whose state space are matrix valued measures. Parallel to that we also consider positive definite Volterra pure jump processes, giving rise to multi…
We provide existence, uniqueness and stability results for affine stochastic Volterra equations with $L^1$-kernels and jumps. Such equations arise as scaling limits of branching processes in population genetics and self-exciting Hawkes processes in mathematical finance. The strategy we adopt for the existence part is based on approximations using stochastic Volterra equations with $L^2$-kernels combined with a general stability result. Most importantly, we establish weak uniqueness using a duality argument on the Fourier--Laplace transform via a deterministic Riccati--Volterra integral equatio…
This paper concerns portfolio selection with multiple assets under rough covariance matrix. We investigate the continuous-time Markowitz mean-variance problem for a multivariate class of affine and quadratic Volterra models. In this incomplete non-Markovian and non-semimartingale market framework with unbounded random coefficients, the optimal portfolio strategy is expressed by means of a Riccati backward stochastic differential equation (BSDE). In the case of affine Volterra models, we derive explicit solutions to this BSDE in terms of multi-dimensional Riccati-Volterra equations. This framew…
The Volterra square-root process on $\mathbb{R}_+^m$ is an affine Volterra process with continuous sample paths. Under a suitable integrability condition on the resolvent of the second kind associated with the Volterra convolution kernel, we establish the existence of limiting distributions. In contrast to the classical square-root diffusion process, here the limiting distributions may depend on the initial state of the process. Our result shows that the non-uniqueness of limiting distributions is closely related to the integrability of the Volterra convolution kernel. Using an extension of th…

We price American options using kernel-based approximations of the Volterra Heston model. We choose these approximations because they allow simulation-based techniques for pricing. We prove the convergence of American option prices in the approximating sequence of models towards the prices in the Volterra Heston model. A crucial step in the proof is to exploit the affine structure of the model in order to establish explicit formulas and convergence results for the conditional Fourier-Laplace transform of the log price and an adjusted version of the forward variance. We illustrate with numerica…
In this paper we study time-inhomogeneous affine processes beyond the common assumption of stochastic continuity. In this setting times of jumps can be both inaccessible and predictable. To this end we develop a general theory of finite dimensional affine semimartingales under very weak assumptions. We show that the corresponding semimartingale characteristics have affine form and that the conditional characteristic function can be represented with solutions to measure differential equations of Riccati type. We prove existence of affine Markov processes and affine semimartingales under mild co…
Time homogeneous polynomial processes are Markov processes whose moments can be calculated easily through matrix exponentials. In this work, we develop a notion of time inhomogeneous polynomial processes where the coeffiecients of the process may depend on time. A full characterization of this model class is given by means of their semimartingale characteristics. We show that in general, the computation of moments by matrix exponentials is no longer possible. As an alternative we explore a connection to Magnus series for fast numerical approximations. Time-inhomogeneity is important in a numbe…
