Based on the recent development of the framework of Volterra rough paths, we consider here the probabilistic construction of the Volterra rough path associated to the fractional Brownian motion with $H>\frac{1}{2}$ and for the standard Brownian motion. The Volterra kernel $k(t,s)$ is allowed to be singular, and behaving similar to $|t-s|^{-γ}$ for some $γ\geq 0$. The construction is done in both the Stratonovich and Itô sense. It is based on a modified Garsia-Rodemich-Romsey lemma which has an interest in its own right, as well as tools from Malliavin calculus. A discussion of challenges and potential extensions is provided.
In this note we prove an existence and uniqueness result of solution for stochastic Volterra integral equations driven by a fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter H > 1/2, showing also that the solution has finite moments. The stochastic integral with respect to the fractional Brownian motion is a pathwise Riemann-Stieltjes integral.
We consider convolution-type stochastic Volterra equations with additive Hilbert-valued fractional Brownian motion, $0<H<1$. We find the weak solution to this stochastic Volterra equation, and study its stochastic integral part, the stochastic convolution, which we show to be mean-zero Gaussian. We develop an Itô isometry for stochastic integrals with respect to a Hilbert-valued fractional Brownian motion, and use it to compute the covariance of the stochastic convolution. This formula, which uses fractional integrals and derivatives, generalizes the well-known formula from the case $H=1/2$.
In this paper we investigate a problem of large deviations for continuous Volterra processes under the influence of model disturbances. More precisely, we study the behavior, in the near future after $T$, of a Volterra process driven by a Brownian motion in a case where the Brownian motion is not directly observable, but only a noisy version is observed or some linear functionals of the noisy version are observed. Some examples are discussed in both cases.
This paper generalizes the integration theory for volatility modulated Brownian-driven Volterra processes onto the space G* of Potthoff-Timpel distributions. Sufficient conditions for integrability of generalized processes are given, regularity results and properties of the integral are discussed. We introduce a new volatility modulation method through the Wick product and discuss its relation to the pointwise-multiplied volatility model.
We show that a sequence of stochastic spatial Lotka-Volterra models, suitably rescaled in space and time, converges weakly to super-Brownian motion with drift. The result includes both long range and nearest neighbor models, the latter for dimensions three and above. These theorems are special cases of a general convergence theorem for perturbations of the voter model.
This note is devoted to construct a rough path above a multidimensional fractional Brownian motion $B$ with any Hurst parameter $H\in(0,1)$, by means of its representation as a Volterra Gaussian process. This approach yields some algebraic and computational simplifications with respect to [Stochastic Process. Appl. 120 (2010) 1444--1472], where the construction of a rough path over $B$ was first introduced.
We define and solve Volterra equations driven by an irregular signal, by means of a variant of the rough path theory allowing to handle generalized integrals weighted by an exponential coefficient. The results are applied to the fractional Brownian motion with Hurst coefficient greater than 1/3
This paper is devoted to study a class of stochastic Volterra equations associated with fractional Brownian motion. We first prove the Driver type integration by parts formula and the shift Harnack type inequalities. As a direct application, we provide an alternative method to describe the regularities of the law of the solution. Secondly, by using the Malliavin calculus, the Bismut type derivative formula is established, which is then applied to the study of the gradient estimate and the strong Feller property. Finally, we establish the Talagrand type transportation cost inequalities for the …
We define and solve Volterra equations driven by an irregular signal, by means of a variant of the rough path theory called algebraic integration. In the Young case, that is for a driving signal with Hölder exponent greater than 1/2, we obtain a global solution, and are able to handle the case of a singular Volterra coefficient. In case of a driving signal with Hölder exponent in (1/3,1/2], we get a local existence and uniqueness theorem. The results are easily applied to the fractional Brownian motion with Hurst coefficient H>1/3.

We extend the recently developed rough path theory for Volterra equations from (Harang and Tindel, 2019) to the case of more rough noise and/or more singular Volterra kernels. It was already observed in (Harang and Tindel, 2019) that the Volterra rough path introduced there did not satisfy any geometric relation, similar to that observed in classical rough path theory. Thus, an extension of the theory to more irregular driving signals requires a deeper understanding of the specific algebraic structure arising in the Volterra rough path. Inspired by the elements of "non-geometric rough paths" d…
We consider stochastic Volterra integral equations driven by a fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter H > 1/2 . We first derive supremum norm estimates for the solution and its Malliavin derivative. We then show existence and smoothness of the density under suitable nondegeneracy conditions. This extends the results in Hu-Nualart and Nualart-Saussereau where stochastic differential equations driven by fractional Brownian motion are considered. The proof uses a priori estimates for deterministic differential equations driven by a function in a suitable Sobolev space.
Recently, it has been shown that stochastic spatial Lotka-Volterra models when suitably rescaled can converge to a super Brownian motion. We show that the limit process could be a super stable process if the kernel of the underlying motion is in the domain of attraction of a stable law. The corresponding results in Brownian setting were proved by Cox and Perkins (2005, 2008). As applications of the convergence theorems, some new results on the asymptotics of the voter model started from single 1 at the origin are obtained which improve the results by Bramson and Griffeath (1980).
Motivated by the potential applications to the fractional Brownianmotion, we study Volterra stochasticdifferential of the form~:\begin{equation}X\_t = x+ \int\_0^tK(t,s)b(s,X\_s)ds + \int\_0^tK(t,s) σ(s,X\_s)\,dB\_s ,\tag{E} \label{eq:sdefbm}\end{equation}where $(B\_s, \, s\in [0,1])$ is a one-dimensional standard Brownianmotion and $(K(t,s), \, t,s \in [0,1])$ is a deterministic kernelwhose properties will be precised below but for which we don't assumeany boundedness property.
This work concerns stochastic Volterra equations with singular kernels. Under the suitable conditions, we prove the central limit theorem for them. Moreover, we apply our result to stochastic Volterra equations with the kernels of fractional Brownian motions with the Hurst parameter $H\in(0, 1)$.
We study the existence and uniqueness of solutions to stochastic differential equations with Volterra processes driven by Lévy noise. For this purpose, we study in detail smoothness properties of these processes. Special attention is given to two kinds of Volterra-Gaussian processes that generalize the compact interval representation of fractional Brownian motion and to stochastic equations with such processes.
We consider Volterra Gaussian processes on [0,T], where T>0 is a fixed time horizon. These are processes of type X_t=\int^t_0 z_X(t,s)dW_s, t\in[0,T], where z_X is a square-integrable kernel, and W is a standard Brownian motion. An example is fractional Brownian motion. By using classical techniques from operator theory, we derive measure-preserving transformations of X, and their inherently related bridges of X. As a closely connected result, we obtain a Fourier-Laguerre series expansion for the first Wiener chaos of a Gaussian martingale over [0,\infty).
We consider stochastic differential equations driven by some Volterra processes. Under time reversal, these equations are transformed into past dependent stochastic differential equations driven by a standard Brownian motion. We are then in position to derive existence and uniqueness of solutions of the Volterra driven SDE considered at the beginning.
The purpose of this paper is to establish the multivariate normal convergence for the average of certain Volterra processes constructed from a fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter H>1/2. Some applications to parameter estimation are then discussed.
This article is devoted to the extension of the theory of rough paths in the context of Volterra equations with possibly singular kernels. We begin to describe a class of two parameter functions defined on the simplex called Volterra paths. These paths are used to construct a so-called Volterra-signature, analogously to the signature used in Lyon's theory of rough paths. We provide a detailed algebraic and analytic description of this object. Interestingly, the Volterra signature does not have a multiplicative property similar to the classical signature, and we introduce an integral product be…
The purpose of this paper is to establish the convergence in distribution of the normalized error in the Euler approximation scheme for stochastic Volterra equations driven by a standard Brownian motion, with a kernel of the form $(t-s)^α$, where $α\in (-\frac 12, \frac 12)$.
We present an explicit solution triplet $(Y, Z, K)$ to the backward stochastic Volterra integral equation (BSVIE) of linear type, driven by a Brownian motion and a compensated Poisson random measure. The process $Y$ is expressed by an integral whose kernel is explicitly given. The processes $Z$ and $K$ are expressed by Hida-Malliavin derivatives involving $Y$.
In this paper, we study backward stochastic Volterra integral equations introduced in [26, 45] and extend the existence, uniqueness or comparison results for general filtration as in [31] (not only Brownian-Poisson setting). We also consider Lp-data and explore the time regularity of the solution in the It{ô} setting, which is also new in this jump setting.
We study the regular conditional law of mixed Gaussian Volterra processes under the influence of model disturbances. More precisely, we study prediction of Gaussian Volterra processes driven by a Brownian motion in a case where the Brownian motion is not observable, but only a noisy version is observed. As an application, we discuss how our result can be applied to variance reduction in the presence of measurement errors.
Given a solution $Y$ to a rough differential equation (RDE), a recent result [8] extends the classical Itö-Stratonovich formula and provides a closed-form expression for $\int Y \circ \mathrm{d} \mathbf{X} - \int Y \, \mathrm{d} X$, i.e. the difference between the rough and Skorohod integrals of $Y$ with respect to $X$, where $X$ is a Gaussian process with finite $p$-variation less than 3. In this paper, we extend this result to Gaussian processes with finite $p$-variation such that $3 \leq p < 4$. The constraint this time is that we restrict ourselves to Volterra Gaussian processes with kerne…
Stochastic Volterra integral equations with jumps (SVIEs) have become very common and widely used in numerous branches of science, due to their connections with mathematical finance, biology, engineering and so on. In this paper, we apply the successive approximation method to investigate the existence and uniqueness of solutions to the SVIEs driven by Brownian motion and compensated Poisson random measure under non-Lipschitz condition.
We consider rough stochastic volatility models where the variance process satisfies a stochastic Volterra equation with the fractional kernel, as in the rough Bergomi and the rough Heston model. In particular, the variance process is therefore not a Markov process or semimartingale, and has quite low Hölder-regularity. In practice, simulating such rough processes thus often results in high computational cost. To remedy this, we study approximations of stochastic Volterra equations using an $N$-dimensional diffusion process defined as solution to a system of ordinary stochastic differential equ…
We extend the new approach introduced in arXiv:1912.02064v2 [math.PR] and arXiv:2102.10119v1 [math.PR] for dealing with stochastic Volterra equations using the ideas of Rough Path theory and prove global existence and uniqueness results. The main idea of this approach is simple: Instead of the iterated integrals of a path comprising the data necessary to solve any equation driven by that path, now iterated integral convolutions with the Volterra kernel comprise said data. This leads to the corresponding abstract objects called Volterra-type Rough Paths, as well as the notion of the convolution…
We prove an enhanced limit theorem for additive functionals of a multi-dimensional Volterra process $(y_t)_{t\geq 0}$ in the rough path topology. As an application, we establish weak convergence as $\varepsilon\to 0$ of the solution of the random ordinary differential equation (ODE) $\frac{d}{dt}x^\varepsilon_t=\frac{1}{\sqrt \varepsilon} f(x_t^\varepsilon,y_{\frac{t}{\varepsilon}})$ and show that its limit solves a rough differential equation driven by a Gaussian field with a drift coming from the Lévy area correction of the limiting rough driver. Furthermore, we prove that the stochastic flo…
The theory of affine processes has been recently extended to the framework of stochastic Volterra equations with continuous trajectories. These so-called affine Volterra processes overcome modeling shortcomings of affine processes because they can have trajectories whose regularity is different from the regularity of the paths of Brownian motion. More specifically, singular kernels yield rough affine processes. This paper extends the theory by considering affine stochastic Volterra equations with jumps. This extension is not straightforward because the jump structure together with possible sin…
Explicit solutions for a class of linear backward stochastic differential equations (BSDE) driven by Gaussian Volterra processes are given. These processes include the multifractional brownian motion and the multifractional Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process. By an Itô formula, proven in the context of Malliavin calculus, the BSDE is associated to a linear second order partial differential equation with terminal condition whose solution is given by a Feynman-Kac type formula. An application to self-financing trading strategies is discussed.
We study solutions of a class of one-dimensional continuous reflected backward stochastic Volterra integral equations driven by Brownian motion, where the reflection keeps the solution above a given stochastic process (lower obstacle). We prove existence and uniqueness by a fixed point argument and we derive a comparison result. Moreover, we show how the solution of our problem is related to a time-inconsistent optimal stopping problem and derive an optimal strategy.
In this paper, we study a class of backward stochastic Volterra integral equations driven by Teugels martingales associated with an independent Lévy process and an independent Brownian motion (BSVIELs). We prove the existence and uniqueness as well as stability of the adapted M-solutions for those equations. Moreover, a duality principle and then a comparison theorem are established. As an application, we derive a class of dynamic risk measures by means of M-solutions of certain BSVIELs.
We consider a stochastic Volterra integral equation with regular path-dependent coefficients and a Brownian motion as integrator in a multidimensional setting. Under an imposed absolute continuity condition, the unique solution is a semimartingale that admits almost surely Hölder continuous paths. Based on functional Itô calculus, we prove that the support of its law in the Hölder norm can be described by a flow of mild solutions to ordinary integro-differential equations that are constructed by means of the vertical derivative of the diffusion coefficient.
Based on the notion of paracontrolled distributions, we provide existence and uniqueness results for rough Volterra equations of convolution type with potentially singular kernels and driven by the newly introduced class of convolutional rough paths. The existence of such rough paths above a wide class of stochastic processes including the fractional Brownian motion is shown. As applications we consider various types of rough and stochastic (partial) differential equations such as rough differential equations with delay, stochastic Volterra equations driven by Gaussian processes and moving ave…
In this paper, we study rough path properties of stochastic integrals of Itô's type and Stratonovich's type with respect to $G$-Brownian motion. The roughness of $G$-Brownian Motion is estimated and then the pathwise Norris lemma in $G$-framework is obtained.
In this paper, we first study the existence-uniqueness and large deviation estimate of solutions for stochastic Volterra integral equations with singular kernels in 2-smooth Banach spaces. Then, we apply them to a large class of semilinear stochastic partial differential equations (SPDE) driven by Brownian motions as well as by fractional Brownian motions, and obtain the existence of unique maximal strong solutions (in the sense of SDE and PDE) under local Lipschitz conditions. Lastly, high order SPDEs in a bounded domain of Euclidean space, second order SPDEs on complete Riemannian manifolds,…
The first passage time problem for Brownian motions hitting a barrier has been extensively studied in the literature. In particular, many incarnations of integral equations which link the density of the hitting time to the equation for the barrier itself have appeared. Most interestingly, Peskir(2002b) demonstrates that a master integral equation can be used to generate a countable number of new equations via differentiation or integration by parts. In this article, we generalize Peskir's results and provide a more powerful unifying framework for generating integral equations through a new cla…
In this work we study rough differential equations driven by a fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter H>1/4 and establish Varadhan's small time estimates for the density of solutions of such equations under Hormander's type conditions.
Starting from the construction of a geometric rough path associated with a fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter $H\in]{1/4}, {1/2}[$ given by Coutin and Qian (2002), we prove a large deviation principle in the space of geometric rough paths, extending classical results on Gaussian processes. As a by-product, geometric rough paths associated to elements of the reproducing kernel Hilbert space of the fractional Brownian motion are obtained and an explicit integral representation is given.
This note extends the results in [8] to construct the rough super-Brownian motion on finite volume with Dirichlet boundary conditions. The backbone of this study is the convergence of discrete approximations of the parabolic Anderson model (PAM) on a box.
We extend recent results on affine Volterra processes to the inhomogeneous case. This includes moment bounds of solutions of Volterra equations driven by a Brownian motion with an inhomogeneous kernel $K(t,s)$ and inhomogeneous drift and diffusion coefficients $b(s,X_s)$ and $σ(s,X_s)$. In the case of affine $b$ and $σσ^T$ we show how the conditional Fourier-Laplace functional can be represented by a solution of an inhomogeneous Riccati-Volterra integral equation. For a kernel of convolution type $K(t,s)=\overline{K}(t-s)$ we establish existence of a solution to the stochastic inhomogeneous Vo…
The present paper is devoted to the study of sample paths of G-Brownian motion and stochastic differential equations (SDEs) driven by G-Brownian motion from the view of rough path theory. As the starting point, we show that quasi-surely, sample paths of G-Brownian motion can be enhanced to the second level in a canonical way so that they become geometric rough paths of roughness 2 < p < 3. This result enables us to introduce the notion of rough differential equations (RDEs) driven by G-Brownian motion in the pathwise sense under the general framework of rough paths. Next we establish the funda…
In this work we study the smoothing effect of rough differential equations driven by a fractional Brownian motion with parameter $H>1/4$. The regularization estimates we obtain generalize to the fractional Brownian motion previous results by Kusuoka and Stroock and can be seen as a quantitative version of the existence of smooth densities under Hörmander's type conditions.
We consider the stochastic continuity equation perturbed by a fractional Brownian motion and the drift is allowed to be discontinuous. We show that for almost all paths of the fractional Brownian motion there exists a solution to the equation.
This paper concerns portfolio selection with multiple assets under rough covariance matrix. We investigate the continuous-time Markowitz mean-variance problem for a multivariate class of affine and quadratic Volterra models. In this incomplete non-Markovian and non-semimartingale market framework with unbounded random coefficients, the optimal portfolio strategy is expressed by means of a Riccati backward stochastic differential equation (BSDE). In the case of affine Volterra models, we derive explicit solutions to this BSDE in terms of multi-dimensional Riccati-Volterra equations. This framew…
The research presented in this article provides an alternative option pricing approach for a class of rough fractional stochastic volatility models. These models are increasingly popular between academics and practitioners due to their surprising consistency with financial markets. However, they bring several challenges alongside. Most noticeably, even simple non-linear financial derivatives as vanilla European options are typically priced by means of Monte-Carlo (MC) simulations which are more computationally demanding than similar MC schemes for standard stochastic volatility models. In this…
We consider a geometric rough path associated with a fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter $H\in]{1/4}, {1/2}[$. We give an approximation result in a modulus type distance, up to the second order, by means of a sequence of rough paths lying above elements of the reproducing kernel Hilbert space.
We introduce the (path-valued) Brownian frame process whose evaluation at time t is the sample path of the underlying Brownian motion run from time t-1 to t. Due to its connections with Gaussian Volterra processes and SDDEs this is an interesting object to study. The first part deals with path-wise properties of the Brownian frame process in the p-variation norm. The second part shows the non-existence of a Levy area random variable in a particular norm, revealing the difficulty in establishing a Rough Path integration theory for the Brownian Frame process.
