The caustics of Fourier integral operators are defined as caustics of the corresponding Schwartz kernels (Lagrangian distributions on $X\times Y$). The caustic set $Σ(C)$ of the canonical relation $C$ is characterized as the set of points where the rank of the projection $π:C\to X\times Y$ is smaller than its maximal value, $dim(X\times Y)-1$. We derive the $L\sp p(Y)\to L\sp q(X)$ estimates on Fourier integral operators with caustics of corank 1 (such as caustics of type $A\sb{m+1}$, $m\in\N$). For the values of $p$ and $q$ outside of certain neighborhood of the line of duality, $q=p'$, the $L\sp p\to L\sp q$ estimates are proved to be caustics-insensitive.
We apply our results to the analysis of the blow-up of the estimates on the half-wave operator just before the geodesic flow forms caustics.
In general the composition of Fourier integral operators (FIOs) need not be an FIO. Motivated by the problem of linearized seismic inversion in the presence of cusp caustics for the background sound speed, we consider FIOs whose canonical relations have certain two-sided cusp degeneracies, and show that the resulting compositions have wave-front relations in the union of the diagonal and an open umbrella, the simplest type of singular Lagrangian manifold.
We suggest a new representation of Maslov's canonical operator in a neighborhood of the caustics using a special class of coordinate systems ("eikonal coordinates") on Lagrangian manifolds.
We study the continuity in weighted Fourier Lebesgue spaces for a class of pseudodifferential operators, whose symbol has finite Fourier Lebesgue regularity with respect to $x$ and satisfies a quasi-homogeneous decay of derivatives with respect to the $ξ$ variable. Applications to Fourier Lebesgue microlocal regularity of linear and nonlinear partial differential equations are given.
We give a detailed microlocal study of X-ray transforms over geodesics-like families of curves with conjugate points of fold type. We show that the normal operator is the sum of a pseudodifferential operator and a Fourier integral operator. We compute the principal symbol of both operators and the canonical relation associated to the Fourier integral operator. In two dimensions, for the geodesic transform, we show that there is always a cancellation of singularities to some order, and we give an example where that order is infinite; therefore the normal operator is not microlocally invertible …
We obtain optimal continuity in Sobolev spaces for the Fourier integral operators associated to singular canonical relations, when one of the two projections is a Whitney fold. The regularity depends on the type, $k$, of the other projection from the canonical relation ($k=1$ for a Whitney fold). We prove that one loses $(4+\frac{2}{k})^{-1}$ of a derivative in the regularity properties. The proof is based on the $L^2$ estimates for oscillatory integral operators.
We consider the Navier-Stokes-Fourier system with the inhomogeneous boundary conditions for the velocity and the temperature. We show that solutions emanating from sufficiently regular data remain regular as long as the density $\varrho$, the absolute temperature $\vartheta$, and the modulus of the fluid velocity $|\textbf{u}|$ remain bounded.
We show that any weak solution to the full Navier-Stokes-Fourier system emanating from the data belonging to the Sobolev space W^{3,2} remains regular as long as the velocity gradient is bounded. The proof is based on the weak-strong uniqueness property and parabolic a priori estimates for the local strong solutions.
We study the strong ill-posedness (norm inflation with infinite loss of regularity) for the nonlinear wave equation at every initial data in Wiener amalgam and Fourier amalgam spaces with negative regularity. In particular these spaces contain Fourier-Lebesgue, Sobolev and some modulation spaces. The equations are posed on $\mathbb R^d$ and on torus $\mathbb T^d$ and involve a smooth power nonlinearity. Our results are sharp with respect to well-posedness results of Bényi and Okoudjou (2009) and Cordero and Nicola (2009) in the Wiener amalgam and modulation space cases. In particular, we also …
We consider nonlinear Schr{ö}dinger equations in Fourier-Lebesgue and modulation spaces involving negative regularity. The equations are posed on the whole space, and involve a smooth power nonlinearity. We prove two types of norm inflation results. We first establish norm inflation results below the expected critical regularities. We then prove norm inflation with infinite loss of regularity under less general assumptions. To do so, we recast the theory of multiphase weakly nonlinear geometric optics for nonlinear Schr{ö}dinger equations in a general abstract functional setting.
The Cauchy problem for the Yang-Mills system in three space dimensions with data in Fourier-Lebesgue spaces $\hat{H}^{s,r}$ , $1 < r \le 2$ , is shown to be locally well-posed, where we have to assume only almost optimal minimal regularity for the data with respect to scaling as $r \to 1$ . This is true despite of the fact that no null condition is known for one of the critical quadratic nonlinearities, which prevented by now the corresponding result in the classical case $r=2$ with data in standard Sobolev spaces.
Let $E$ be a bounded domain in $\mathbb R^d$. We study regularity property of $χ_E$ and integrability of $\widehat {χ_E }$ when its boundary $\partial E$ satisfies some conditions. At the critical case these properties are generally known to fail. By making use of Lorentz and Lorentz-Sobolev spaces we obtain the endpoint cases of the previous known results. Our results are based on a refined version of Littlewood-Paley inequality, which makes it possible to exploit cancellation effectively.
We consider Benjamin-Bona-Mahony (BBM) equation of the form $$ u_t+u_x+uu_x-u_{xxt}=0, \quad (x, t)\in \mathcal{M}\times \mathbb R $$ where $\mathcal{M}= \mathbb T$ or $\mathbb R.$ We establish norm inflation (NI) with infinite loss of regularity at general initial data in Fourier amalgam and Wiener amalgam spaces with negative regularity. This strengthen several known NI results at zero initial data in $H^s(\mathbb T)$ established by Bona-Dai (2017) and ill-posedness result established by Bona-Tzvetkov (2008) and Panthee (2011) in $H^s(\mathbb R).$ Our result is sharp with respect to local we…
In this article, we consider the kinetic derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equation (KDNLS), which is a one-dimensional nonlinear Schrödinger equation with a cubic derivative nonlinear term containing the Hilbert transformation. For the Cauchy problem both on the real line and on the circle, we apply the short-time Fourier restriction method to establish a priori estimate for small and smooth solutions in Sobolev spaces $H^s$ with $s>1/4$.
This paper addresses a nonstationary flow of heat-conductive incompressible Newtonian fluid with temperature-dependent viscosity coupled with linear heat transfer with advection and a viscous heat source term, under Navier/Dirichlet boundary conditions. The partial regularity for the velocity of the fluid is proved to each proper weak solution, that is, for such weak solutions which satisfy some local energy estimates in a similar way to the suitable weak solutions of the Navier-Stokes system. Finally, we study the nature of the set of points in space and time upon which proper weak solutions …
We find optimal conditions on $m$-linear Fourier multipliers to give rise to bounded operators from a product of Hardy spaces $H^{p_j}$, $0<p_j\le 1$, to Lebesgue spaces $L^p$. The conditions we obtain are necessary and sufficient for boundedness and are expressed in terms of $L^2$-based Sobolev spaces. Our results extend those obtained in the linear case ($m=1 $) by Calderón and Torchinsky [http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0001870877800169] and in the bilinear case ($m=2$) by Miyachi and Tomita [http://www.ems-ph.org/journals/show_abstract.php?issn=0213-2230&vol=29&iss=2&rank…
We investigate the global continuity on $L^p$ spaces with $p\in [1,\infty]$ of Fourier integral operators with smooth and rough amplitudes and/or phase functions subject to certain non-degeneracy conditions. We initiate the investigation of the continuity of smooth and rough Fourier integral operators on weighted $L^{p}$ spaces, $L_{w}^p$ with $1< p < \infty$ and $w\in A_{p},$ (i.e. the Muckenhoput weights), and establish weighted norm inequalities for operators with rough and smooth amplitudes and phase functions satisfying a suitable rank condition. These results are then applied to prove we…
We prove resolvent $L_p$ estimates and maximal $L_p$-$L_q$ regularity estimates for the Stokes equations with Dirichlet, Neumann and Robin boundary conditions in the half space. Each solution is constructed by a Fourier multiplier of $x'$-direction and an integral of $x_N$-direction. We decompose the solution such that the symbols of the Fourier multipliers are bounded and holomorphic. We see that the operator norms are dominated by a homogeneous function of order $-1$ for $x_N$-direction. The basis are Weis's operator-valued Fourier multiplier theorem and a boundedness of a kernel operator. W…
We consider local well-posedness for the Maxwell-Chern-Simons-Higgs system in Lorenz gauge for data with minimal regularity assumptions in Fourier-Lebesgue spaces $\widehat{H}^{s,r}$ , where $\|u\|_{\widehat{H}^{s,r}} := \| \langle ξ\rangle^s \widehat{u}(ξ)\|_{L^{r'}}$ , and $r$ and $r'$ are dual exponents. We show that the gap between this regularity and the regularity with respect to scaling shrinks in the case $r>1$ , $r \to 1$ compared to the classical case $r=2$ .
The aim of this paper is to give a review of local and global properties of Fourier integral operators with real and complex phases, in local $L^p$, global $L^2$, and in Colombeau's spaces.
We provide characterizations for boundedness of multilinear Fourier operators on Hardy-Lebesgue spaces with symbols locally in Sobolev spaces. Let $H^q(\mathbb R^n)$ denote the Hardy space when $0<q\le 1$ and the Lebesgue space $L^q(\mathbb R^n)$ when $1<q\le \infty$. We find optimal conditions on $m$-linear Fourier multiplier operators to be bounded from $H^{p_1}\times \cdots \times H^{p_m}$ to $L^p$ when $1/p=1/p_1+\cdots +1/p_m$ in terms of local $L^2$-Sobolev space estimates for the symbol of the operator. Our conditions provide multilinear analogues of the linear results of Calderón and T…
In this paper, we investigate that the Hölder regularity of solutions to the time fractional Schrödinger equation of order $1<α<2$, which interpolates between the Schrödinger and wave equations. This is inspired by Hirata and Miao's work which studied the fractional diffusion-wave equation. First, we give the asymptotic behavior for the oscillatory distributional kernels and their Bessel potentials by using Fourier analytic techniques. Then, the space regularity is derived by employing some results on singular Fourier multipliers. Using the asymptotic behavior for the above kernels, we prove t…
While the local $L^p$-boundedness of nondegeneral Fourier integral operators is known from the work of Seeger, Sogge and Stein, not so many results are available for the global boundedness on $L^p(\mathbb R^n)$. In this paper we give a sufficient condition for the global $L^p$-boundedness for a class of Fourier integral operators which includes many natural examples. We also describe a construction that can be used to deduce global results from the local ones. An application is given to obtain global $L^p$-estimates for solutions to Cauchy problems for hyperbolic partial differential equations…
In this paper we investigate the mapping properties of periodic Fourier integral operators in $L^p(\mathbb{T}^n)$-spaces. The operators considered are associated to periodic symbols (with limited regularity) in the sense of Ruzhansky and Turunen.
We prove a low regularity local well-posedness result for the Maxwell-Klein-Gordon system in three space dimensions for data in Fourier - Lebesgue spaces $\widehat{H}^{s,r}$ , where $\|f\|_{\widehat{H}^{s,r}} = \|\langle ξ\rangle^s \widehat{f}(ξ)\|_{\widehat{L}^{r'}}$ , $\frac{1}{r}+\frac{1}{r'} = 1$ . The assumed regularity for the data is almost optimal with respect to scaling as $r \to 1$ . This closes the gap between what is known in the case $r=2$ , namely $s > \frac{3}{4}$ , and the critical value $s_c = \frac{1}{2}$ with respect to scaling.
Here we utilize operator--valued Lq-Lp Fourier multiplier theorems to establish lower bound estimates for large class of elliptic integro-differential equations in Rd. Moreover, we investigate separability properties of parabolic convolution operator equations that arise in heat conduction problems in materials with fading memory. Finally, we give some remarks on optimal regularity of elliptic differential equations and Cauchy problem for parabolic equations.
We study resolvent estimate and maximal regularity of the Stokes operator in $L^q$-spaces with exponential weights in the axial directions of unbounded cylinders of ${\mathbb R}^n,n\geq 3$. For straights cylinders we obtain these results in Lebesgue spaces with exponential weights in the axial direction and Muckenhoupt weights in the cross-section. Next, for general cylinders with several exits to infinity we prove that the Stokes operator in $L^q$-spaces with exponential weight along the axial directions generates an exponentially decaying analytic semigroup and has maximal regularity. The pr…
We are interested in the long time behavior of solutions of the nonlinear Schr{ö}dinger equation on the $d$-dimensional torus in low regularity, i.e. for small initial data in the Sobolev space $H^{s_0}(\mathbb T^d)$ with $s_0>d/2$. We prove that, even in this context of low regularity, the $H^s$-norms, $s\geq 0$, remain under control during times, $T_\varepsilon= \exp \big(-\frac{|\log\varepsilon|^2}{4\log|\log\varepsilon|} \big)$, exponential with respect to the initial size of the initial datum in $H^{s_0}$, $\|u(0)\|_{H^{s_0}}=\varepsilon$. For this, we add to the linear part of the equati…
In this paper, we propose a new scheme for the integration of the periodic nonlinear Schrödinger equation and rigorously prove convergence rates at low regularity. The new integrator has decisive advantages over standard schemes at low regularity. In particular, it is able to handle initial data in $H^s$ for $0 < s\le 1$. The key feature of the integrator is its ability to distinguish between low and medium frequencies in the solution and to treat them differently in the discretization. This new approach requires a well-balanced filtering procedure which is carried out in Fourier space. The co…
This article addresses linear hyperbolic partial differential equations and pseudodifferential equations with strongly singular coefficients and data, modelled as members of algebras of generalised functions. We employ the recently developed theory of generalised Fourier integral operators to construct parametrices for the solutions and to describe propagation of singularities in this setting. As required tools, the construction of generalised solutions to eikonal and transport equations is given and results on the microlocal regularity of the kernels of generalised Fourier integral operators …
In this paper, we introduce a new set of vector fields for the relativistic transport equation, which is applicable for general Vlasov-Wave type coupled systems. By combining the strength of Klainerman vector field method and Fourier method, we prove global regularity and scattering for the $3D$ massive relativistic Vlasov-Nordström system for small initial data without any compact support assumption, which is widely used in the literature for the study of Vlasov solution.
Given any smooth, suitably small initial data, which decays polynomially at infinity, we prove global regularity for the $3D$ relativistic massive Vlasov-Maxwell system. In particular, the compact support assumption, which is widely used in the literature, is not imposed on the initial data. Our proofs are based on a combination of the Klainerman vector fields method and the Fourier method, which allows us to exploit a crucial hidden null structure in the relativistic Vlasov-Maxwell system.
The defocusing NLS-equation $\mathrm{i} u_t = -u_{xx} + 2|u|^2u$ on the circle admits a global nonlinear Fourier transform, also known as Birkhoff map, linearising the NLS-flow. The regularity properties of $u$ are known to be closely related to the decay properties of the corresponding nonlinear Fourier coefficients. In this paper we quantify this relationship by providing two sided polynomial estimates of all integer Sobolev norms $\|u\|_m$, $m\ge 0$, in terms of the weighted norms of the nonlinear Fourier transformed.
In this article, a theory of generalized oscillatory integrals (OIs) is developed whose phase functions as well as amplitudes may be generalized functions of Colombeau type. Based on this, generalized Fourier integral operators (FIOs) acting on Colombeau algebras are defined. This is motivated by the need of a general framework for partial differential operators with non-smooth coefficients and distribution data. The mapping properties of these FIOs are studied, as is microlocal Colombeau regularity for OIs and the influence of the FIO action on generalized wave front sets.
The KdV-equation $u_t = -u_{xxx} + 6uu_x$ on the circle admits a global nonlinear Fourier transform, also known as Birkhoff map, linearizing the KdV flow. The regularity properties of $u$ are known to be closely related to the decay properties of the corresponding nonlinear Fourier coefficients. In this paper we obtain two-sided polynomial estimates of all integer Sobolev norms $||u||_m$, $m\ge 0$, in terms of the weighted norms of the nonlinear Fourier transformed, which are linear in the highest order. We further obtain quantitative estimates of the nonlinear Fourier transformed in arbitrary…
Based on the nonlinear steepest descent method of Deift and Zhou for oscillatory Riemann--Hilbert problems and the Dbar approach, the long-time asymptotic behavior of solutions to the fifth-order modified Korteweg-de Vries equation on the line is studied in the case of initial conditions that belong to some weighted Sobolev spaces. Using techniques in Fourier analysis and the idea of $I$-method, we give its global well-posedness in lower regularity Sobolev spaces, and then obtain the asymptotic behavior in these spaces with weights.
We show existence of small solitary and periodic traveling-wave solutions in Sobolev spaces ${\mathrm{H}^s}$, ${ s > 0 }$, to a class of nonlinear, dispersive evolution equations of the form \begin{equation*} u_t + \left(Lu+ n(u)\right)_x = 0, \end{equation*} where the dispersion ${L}$ is a negative-order Fourier multiplier whose symbol is of KdV type at low frequencies and has integrable Fourier inverse ${ K }$ and the nonlinearity ${n}$ is inhomogeneous, locally Lipschitz and of superlinear growth at the origin. This generalises earlier work by Ehrnström, Groves & Wahlén on a class of equati…
Generalized Fourier integral operators (FIOs) acting on Colombeau algebras are defined. This is based on a theory of generalized oscillatory integrals (OIs) whose phase functions as well as amplitudes may be generalized functions of Colombeau type. The mapping properties of these FIOs are studied as the composition with a generalized pseudodifferential operator. Finally, the microlocal Colombeau regularity for OIs and the influence of the FIO action on generalized wave front sets are investigated. This theory of generalized FIOs is motivated by the need of a general framework for partial diffe…
In this paper, the regularity properties of Cauchy problem for linear and nonlinear nonlocal wave equations are studied. The equation involves a convolution integral operators with a general kernel operator functions whose Fourier transform are operator functions defined in Hilbert space H together with some growth conditions. We establish local and global existence and uniqueness of solutions assuming enough smoothness on the initial data and the operator functions. By selecting the space H and the operators, the wide class of wave equations in the field of physics are obtained.
We show a smoothing effect of near full derivative for low-regularity global-in-time solutions of the periodic Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equation. The smoothing is given by slightly shifting the space-time Fourier support of the nonlinear solution, which we call \emph{resonant phase-shift}. More precisely, we show that $[\mathcal{S}u](t) - e^{-t\partial_x^3} u(0) \in H^{-s+1-}$ where $u(0) \in H^{-s}$ for $0\leq s <1/2$ where $\mathcal{S}$ is the resonant phase-shift operator described below. We use the normal form method to obtain the result.
We establish the regularity of bilinear Fourier integral operators with bilinear amplitudes in $S^m_{1,0} (n,2)$ and non-degenerate phase functions, from $L^p \times L^q \to L^r$ under the assumptions that $m\leq -(n-1)(|\frac{1}{p}-\frac{1}{2}|+|\frac{1}{q}-\frac{1}{2}|)$ and $\frac{1}{p}+\frac{1}{q}=\frac{1}{r}$. This is a bilinear version of the classical theorem of Seeger-Sogge-Stein concerning the $L^p$ boundedness of linear Fourier integral operators. Moreover, our result goes beyond the aforementioned theorem in that it also includes the case of non-Banach target spaces.
In this paper, the Cauchy problem for linear and nonlinear convolution wave equations are studied. The equation involves convolution terms with a general kernel functions whose Fourier transform are operator functions defined in a Banach space E together with some growth conditions. Here, assuming enough smoothness on the initial data and the operator functions, the local, global existence, uniqueness and regularity properties of solutions are established in terms of fractional powers of given sectorial operator functon. Furthermore, conditions for finite time blow-up are provided. By choosing …
We consider fully discrete schemes based on the scalar auxiliary variable (SAV) approach and stabilized SAV approach in time and the Fourier-spectral method in space for the phase field crystal (PFC) equation. Unconditionally energy stability is established for both first- and second-order fully discrete schemes. In addition to the stability, we also provide a rigorous error estimate which shows that our second-order in time with Fourier-spectral method in space converges with order $O(Δt^2+N^{-m})$, where $Δt$, $N$ and $m$ are time step size, number of Fourier modes in each direction, and reg…
In this paper, developing a new approach based on Fourier analysis methods for dispersive PDEs, we establish a low regularity NLS approximation for the one-dimensional cubic Klein-Gordon equation. Our main result includes energy class solutions which are formally asymptotically in $L^2(\mathbb{R})$. A precise rate of convergence is also obtained assuming more regularity.
Due to the dissipative structure of \textit{regularity-loss}, extra higher regularity than that for the global-in-time existence is usually imposed to obtain the optimal decay rates of classical solutions to dissipative systems. The aim of this paper is to seek the lowest regularity index for the optimal decay rate of $L^{1}(\mathbb{R}^n)$-$L^2(\mathbb{R}^n)$. Consequently, a notion of minimal decay regularity for dissipative systems of regularity-loss is firstly proposed. To do this, we develop a new time-decay estimate of $L^p(\mathbb{R}^n)$-$L^{q}(\mathbb{R}^n)$-$L^{r}(\mathbb{R}^n)$ type b…
We establish sharp $L^2$-Sobolev estimates for classes of pseudodifferential operators with singular symbols whose non-pseudodifferential (Fourier integral operator) parts exhibit two-sided fold singularities. The operators considered include both singular integral operators along curves in $R^2$ with simple inflection points and normal operators arising in linearized seismic imaging in the presence of fold caustics.

In this paper, we propose a first-order Fourier integrator for solving the cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation in one dimension. The scheme is explicit and can be implemented using the fast Fourier transform. By a rigorous analysis, we prove that the new scheme provides the first order accuracy in $H^γ$ for any initial data belonging to $H^γ$, for any $γ>\frac32$. That is, up to some fixed time $T$, there exists some constant $C=C(\|u\|_{L^\infty([0,T]; H^γ)})>0$, such that $$ \|u^n-u(t_n)\|_{H^γ(\mathbb T)}\le C τ, $$ where $u^n$ denotes the numerical solution at $t_n=nτ$. Moreover, the mass…
In this paper we establish global Lp regularity properties of Fourier integral operators. The orders of decay of the amplitude are determined for operators to be bounded on $L^p(\Rn)$, $1<p<\infty$, as well as to be bounded from Hardy space $H^1(\Rn)$ to $L^1(\Rn)$. The obtained results extend local $L^p$ regularity properties of Fourier integral operators established by Seeger, Sogge and Stein (1991) as well as global $L^2(\Rn)$ results of Asada and Fujiwara (1978) and Ruzhansky and Sugimoto (2006), to the global setting of $L^p(\Rn)$. Global boundedness in weighted Sobolev spaces $W^{σ,p}_s(…
