The aim of this paper is to give a review of local and global properties of Fourier integral operators with real and complex phases, in local $L^p$, global $L^2$, and in Colombeau's spaces.
While the local $L^p$-boundedness of nondegeneral Fourier integral operators is known from the work of Seeger, Sogge and Stein, not so many results are available for the global boundedness on $L^p(\mathbb R^n)$. In this paper we give a sufficient condition for the global $L^p$-boundedness for a class of Fourier integral operators which includes many natural examples. We also describe a construction that can be used to deduce global results from the local ones. An application is given to obtain global $L^p$-estimates for solutions to Cauchy problems for hyperbolic partial differential equations…
We study the regularity of Fourier integral operators, by allowing their symbols to satisfy certain multi-parameter characteristics. As a result, we give an extension of Seeger-Sogge-Stein theorem on product spaces.
We introduce the class of Beurling-Fourier algebras on locally compact groups and show that they are non-commutative analogs of classical Beurling algebras. We obtain various results with regard to the operator amenability, operator weak amenability and Arens regularity of Beurling-Fourier algebras on compact groups and show that they behave very similarly to the classical Beurling algebras of discrete groups. We then apply our results to study explicitly the Beurling-Fourier algebras on SU(2), the 2 $\times$ 2 unitary group. We demonstrate that how Beurling-Fourier algebras are closely connec…
We give some new results related to the directional short-time Fourier transform (DSTFT) and extend them on the spaces $\mathcal K_{1}(\mathbb R^{n})$ and $\mathcal K_{1}({\mathbb R})\widehat{\otimes}\mathcal U(\mathbb C^n)$ and their duals. Then, we define multi-directional STFT and, for tempered distributions, directional regular sets and their complements, directional wave fronts. Different windows with mild conditions on their support show the invariance of these notions related to window functions. Smoothness of $f$ follows from the assumptions of the directional regularity in any directi…
We study the regularity of smooth functions whose derivatives are dominated by sequences of the form $M_p^{τ,\s}=p^{τp^{\s}}$, $τ>0$, $\s\geq1$. We show that such functions can be characterized through the decay properties of their short-time Fourier transforms (STFT), and recover \cite[Theorem 3.1]{CNR} as the special case when $ \t>1$ and $\s = 1$, i.e. when the Gevrey type regularity is considered. These estimates lead to a Paley-Wiener type theorem for extended Gevrey classes. In contrast to the related result from \cite{PTT-05, PTT-04}, here we relax the assumption on compact support of t…
We consider Fourier integral operators with symbols in modulation spaces and non-smooth phase functions whose second orders of derivatives belong to certain types of modulation space. We establish continuity and Schatten-von Neumann properties of such operators when acting on modulation spaces.
A general principle says that the matrix of a Fourier integral operator with respect to wave packets is concentrated near the curve of propagation. We prove a precise version of this principle for Fourier integral operators with a smooth phase and a symbol in the Sjoestrand class and use Gabor frames as wave packets. The almost diagonalization of such Fourier integral operators suggests a specific approximation by (a sum of) elementary operators, namely modified Gabor multipliers. We derive error estimates for such approximations. The methods are taken from time-frequency analysis.

We construct a one-parameter family of algebras consisting of Fourier integral operators. We derive boundedness results, composition rules, and the spectral invariance of this class of operators. The operator algebra is defined by the decay properties of an associated Gabor matrix around the graph of the canonical transformation.
In this paper we develop elements of the global calculus of Fourier integral operators in $R^n$ under minimal decay assumptions on phases and amplitudes. We also establish global weighted Sobolev $L^2$ estimates for a class of Fourier integral operators that appears in the analysis of global smoothing problems for dispersive partial differential equations. As an application, we exhibit a new type of smoothing estimates for hyperbolic equations, where the decay of data in space is quantitatively translated into the time decay of solutions.
We carry on the study of Fourier integral operators of H{ö}rmander's type acting on the spaces $(\mathcal{F}L^p)_{comp}$, $1\leq p\leq\infty$, of compactly supported distributions whose Fourier transform is in $L^p$. We show that the sharp loss of derivatives for such an operator to be bounded on these spaces is related to the rank $r$ of the Hessian of the phase $Φ(x,η)$ with respect to the space variables $x$. Indeed, we show that operators of order $m=-r|1/2-1/p|$ are bounded on $(\mathcal{F}L^p)_{comp}$, if the mapping $x\longmapsto\nabla_xΦ(x,η)$ is constant on the fibers, of codimension …
We give a criterion for the global boundedness of integral operators which are known to be locally bounded. As an application, we discuss the global $L^p$-boundedness for a class of Fourier integral operators. While the local $L^p$-boundedness of Fourier integral operators is known from the work of Seeger, Sogge and Stein, not so many results are available for the global boundedness on $L^p({\mathbb R}^n)$. We give several natural sufficient conditions for them.
We are interested in the convergence and the local regularity of the lacunary Fourier series $F_s(x) = \sum_{n=1}^{+\infty} \frac{e^{2iπn^2 x}}{n^s}$. In the 1850's, Riemann introduced the series $F_2$ as a possible example of nowhere differentiable function, and the study of this function has drawn the interest of many mathematicians since then. We focus on the case when $1/2<s\leq 1$, and we prove that $F_s(x)$ converges when $x$ satisfies a Diophantine condition. We also study the $L^2$- local regularity of $F_s$, proving that the local $L^2$-norm of $F_s$ around a point $x$ behave differen…
Using a variational approach we study interior regularity for quasiminimizers of a $(p,q)$-Dirichlet integral, as well as regularity results up to the boundary, in the setting of a metric space equipped with a doubling measure and supporting a Poincaré inequality. For the interior regularity, we use De Giorgi type conditions to show that quasiminimizers are locally Hölder continuous and they satisfy Harnack inequality, the strong maximum principle, and Liouville's Theorem. Furthermore, we give a pointwise estimate near a boundary point, as well as a sufficient condition for Hölder continuity a…
The admittable Sobolev regularity is quantified for a function, $w$, which has a zero in the $d$--dimensional torus and whose reciprocal $u=1/w$ is a $(p,q)$--multiplier. Several aspects of this problem are addressed, including zero--sets of positive Hausdorff dimension, matrix valued Fourier multipliers, and non--symmetric versions of Sobolev regularity. Additionally, we make a connection between Fourier multipliers and approximation properties of Gabor systems and shift--invariant systems. We exploit this connection and the results on Fourier multipliers to refine and extend versions of the …
In this article, we study properties of multilinear Fourier integral operators on weighted modulation spaces. In particular, using the theory of Gabor frames, we study boundedness of multilinear Fourier integral operators on products of weighted modulation spaces. Further, we investigate the periodic multilinear Fourier integral operator. Finally, we study continuity of bilinear pseudo-differential operators on modulation spaces for certain symbol classes, namely $\textbf{SG}$-class.
Using the matrix representation of Fourier integral operators with respect to a Gabor frame, we study their compactness on weighted modulation spaces. As a consequence, we recover and improve some compactness results for pseudodifferential operators.
We present new types of regularity for nonlinear generalized functions, based on the notion of regular growth with respect to the regularizing parameter of Colombeau's simplified model. This generalizes the notion of G^{\infty }-regularity introduced by M. Oberguggenberger. A key point is that these regularities can be characterized, for compactly supported generalized functions, by a property of their Fourier transform. This opens the door to microanalysis of singularities of generalized functions, with respect to these regularities. We present a complete study of this topic, including proper…
Fourier integral operators with sufficiently smooth phase act on the time-frequency content of functions. However time-frequency analysis has only recently been used to analyze these operators. In this paper, we show that if a Fourier integral operator has a smooth phase function and its symbol is well-localized in time and frequency, then the operator is Schatten \( p \)-class for \( p \in [1,2] \), with inclusion of the symbol in mixed modulation spaces serving as the appropriate measure of time-frequency localization. Our main results are sharp in the sense that larger mixed modulation spac…
While teaching a course on integral equations, I noticed that a straightforward combination of Neumann series and Fourier series for the resolvent (or the solution) of an integral equation has good approximation qualities. This short article presents and investigates this combination of approximating series.
Let X be a noncompact symmetric space of rank one and let h^1(X) be a local atomic Hardy space. We prove the boundedness from h^1(X) to L^1(X) and on h^1(X) of some classes of Fourier integral operators related to the wave equation associated with the Laplacian on X and we estimate the growth of their norms depending on time.
New sufficient conditions for representation of a function via the absolutely convergent Fourier integral are obtained in the paper. In the main result, Theorem 1.1, this is controlled by the behavior near infinity of both the function and its derivative. This result is extended to any dimension $d\ge2.$
In this note we study sharp sufficient conditions for the nuclearity of Fourier integral operators on $L^p$-spaces, $1< p\leq 2$. Our conditions and those presented in Cardona [2] provide a systematic investigation on the subject for all $1<p<\infty.$
We construct a calculus for generalized $\mathbf{SG}$ Fourier integral operators, extending known results to a broader class of symbols of $\mathbf{SG}$ type. In particular, we do not require that the phase functions are homogeneous. We also prove the $L^2(\mathbf{R}^{d})$-boundedness of the generalized $\mathbf{SG}$ Fourier integral operators having regular phase functions and amplitudes uniformly bounded on $\mathbf{R}^{2d}$.
We study two families of integral functionals indexed by a real number $p > 0$. One family is defined for 1-dimensional curves in $\R^3$ and the other one is defined for $m$-dimensional manifolds in $\R^n$. These functionals are described as integrals of appropriate integrands (strongly related to the Menger curvature) raised to power $p$. Given $p > m(m+1)$ we prove that $C^{1,α}$ regularity of the set (a curve or a manifold), with $α> α_0 = 1 - \frac{m(m+1)}p$ implies finiteness of both curvature functionals ($m=1$ in the case of curves). We also show that $α_0$ is optimal by constructing ex…
We consider integrals of spherical harmonics with Fourier exponents on the sphere $S^n ,\, n \geq 1$. Such transforms arise in the framework of the theory of weighted Radon transforms and vector diffraction in electromagnetic fields theory. We give analytic formulas for these integrals, which are exact up to multiplicative constants. These constants depend on choice of basis on the sphere. In addition, we find these constants explicitly for the class of harmonics arising in the framework of the theory of weighted Radon transforms. We also suggest formulas for finding these constants for the ge…
In this work, a class of semiclassical Fourier Integral Operators (FIOs) with complex phase associated to some canonical transformation of the phase space $T^*\R^d$ is constructed. Upon some general boundedness assumptions on the symbol and the canonical transformation, their continuity (as operators) from the Schwartz class into itself and from $L^2$ into itself are proven.
