The KdV-equation $u_t = -u_{xxx} + 6uu_x$ on the circle admits a global nonlinear Fourier transform, also known as Birkhoff map, linearizing the KdV flow. The regularity properties of $u$ are known to be closely related to the decay properties of the corresponding nonlinear Fourier coefficients. In this paper we obtain two-sided polynomial estimates of all integer Sobolev norms $||u||_m$, $m\ge 0$, in terms of the weighted norms of the nonlinear Fourier transformed, which are linear in the highest order. We further obtain quantitative estimates of the nonlinear Fourier transformed in arbitrary weighted Sobolev spaces.
We study the well-posedness of the complex-valued modified Korteweg-de Vries equation (mKdV) on the circle at low regularity. In our previous work (2019), we introduced the second renormalized mKdV equation, based on the conservation of momentum, which we proposed as the correct model to study the complex-valued mKdV outside of $H^\frac12(\mathbb{T})$. Here, we employ the method introduced by Deng-Nahmod-Yue (2019) to prove local well-posedness of the second renormalized mKdV equation in the Fourier-Lebesgue spaces $\mathcal{F}L^{s,p}(\mathbb{T})$ for $s\geq \frac12$ and $1\leq p <\infty$. As …
In this paper, we consider a discrete restriction associated with KdV equations. Some new Strichartz estimates are obtained. We also establish the local well-posedness for the periodic generalized Korteweg-de Vries equation with nonlinear term $ F(u)\p_x u$ provided $F\in C^5$ and the initial data $ϕ\in H^s$ with $s>1/2$.
We investigate the time propagation of singularity of a solution to linearized KdV equation by using the characterization of wave front sets with using to the wave packet transform (short time Fourier transform).
We study the complex-valued modified Korteweg-de Vries equation (mKdV) on the circle. We first consider the real-valued setting and show global well-posedness of the (usual) renormalized mKdV equation in the Fourier-Lebesgue spaces. In the complex-valued setting, we observe that the momentum plays an important role in the well-posedness theory. In particular, we prove that the complex-valued mKdV equation is ill-posed in the sense of non-existence of solutions when the momentum is infinite, in the spirit of the work on the nonlinear Schrödinger equation by Guo-Oh (2018). This non-existence res…
In this paper we prove new qualitative features of solutions of KdV on the circle. The first result says that the Fourier coefficients of a solution of KdV in Sobolev space $H^N,\, N\geq 0$, admit a WKB type expansion up to first order with strongly oscillating phase factors defined in terms of the KdV frequencies. The second result provides estimates for the approximation of such a solution by trigonometric polynomials of sufficiently large degree.
In this paper we prove that in appropriate weighted Sobolev spaces, in the case of no bound states, the scattering map of the Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) on $\mathbb R$ is a perturbation of the Fourier transform by a regularizing operator. As an application of this result, we show that the difference of the KdV flow and the corresponding Airy flow is 1-smoothing.
We obtain optimal continuity in Sobolev spaces for the Fourier integral operators associated to singular canonical relations, when one of the two projections is a Whitney fold. The regularity depends on the type, $k$, of the other projection from the canonical relation ($k=1$ for a Whitney fold). We prove that one loses $(4+\frac{2}{k})^{-1}$ of a derivative in the regularity properties. The proof is based on the $L^2$ estimates for oscillatory integral operators.
We show that the global attractor of a weakly damped and driven Korteweg-de Vries equation (KdV) is embedded in the long-time dynamics of an ordinary differential equation called a determining form. In particular, there is a one-to-one identification of the trajectories in the global attractor of the damped and driven KdV and the steady state solutions of the determining form. Moreover, we analyze a data assimilation algorithm (down-scaling) for the weakly damped and driven KdV. We show that given a certain number of low Fourier modes of a reference solution of the KdV equation, the algorithm …

Based on the nonlinear steepest descent method of Deift and Zhou for oscillatory Riemann--Hilbert problems and the Dbar approach, the long-time asymptotic behavior of solutions to the fifth-order modified Korteweg-de Vries equation on the line is studied in the case of initial conditions that belong to some weighted Sobolev spaces. Using techniques in Fourier analysis and the idea of $I$-method, we give its global well-posedness in lower regularity Sobolev spaces, and then obtain the asymptotic behavior in these spaces with weights.
We consider the KdV equation $$ \partial_t u +\partial^3_x u +u\partial_x u=0 $$ with quasi-periodic initial data whose Fourier coefficients decay exponentially and prove existence and uniqueness, in the class of functions which have an expansion with exponentially decaying Fourier coefficients, of a solution on a small interval of time, the length of which depends on the given data and the frequency vector involved. For a Diophantine frequency vector and for small quasi-periodic data (i.e., when the Fourier coefficients obey $|c(m)| \le \varepsilon \exp(-κ_0 |m|)$ with $\varepsilon > 0$ suffi…
For the damped-driven KdV equation $$ \dot u-ν{u_{xx}}+u_{xxx}-6uu_x=\sqrtνη(t,x), x\in S^1, \int u dx\equiv \intηdx\equiv0, $$ with $0<ν\le1$ and smooth in $x$ white in $t$ random force $η$, we study the limiting long-time behaviour of the KdV integrals of motions $(I_1,I_2,...)$, evaluated along a solution $u^ν(t,x)$, as $ν\to0$. We prove that %if $u=u^ν(t,x)$ is a solution of the equation above, for $0\leτ:= νt \lesssim1$ the vector $ I^ν(τ)=(I_1(u^ν(τ,\cdot)),I_2(u^ν(τ,\cdot)),...), $ converges in distribution to a limiting process $I^0(τ)=(I^0_1,I^0_2,...)$. The $j$-th component $I_j^0$ e…
The defocusing NLS-equation $\mathrm{i} u_t = -u_{xx} + 2|u|^2u$ on the circle admits a global nonlinear Fourier transform, also known as Birkhoff map, linearising the NLS-flow. The regularity properties of $u$ are known to be closely related to the decay properties of the corresponding nonlinear Fourier coefficients. In this paper we quantify this relationship by providing two sided polynomial estimates of all integer Sobolev norms $\|u\|_m$, $m\ge 0$, in terms of the weighted norms of the nonlinear Fourier transformed.
The Fourier restriction norm method is used to show local wellposedness for the Cauchy Problem for the generalized KdV-equation of order three with data in the usual Sobolev space H^s, s > -1/6. For real valued data in L^2 global wellposedness follows by the conservation of the L^2-norm. The main new tool is a bilinear estimate for solutions of the Airy- equation.
We investigate the decay for $|x|\rightarrow \infty$ of weak Sobolev type solutions of semilinear nonlocal equations $Pu=F(u)$. We consider the case when $P=p(D)$ is an elliptic Fourier multiplier with polyhomogeneous symbol $p(ξ)$ and derive sharp algebraic decay estimates in terms of weighted Sobolev norms. In particular, we state a precise relation between the singularity of the symbol at the origin and the rate of decay of the corresponding solutions. Our basic example is the celebrated Benjamin-Ono equation {equation} \label{BO}(|D|+c)u=u^2, \qquad c>0,{equation} for internal solitary wav…
We establish sharp $L^2$-Sobolev estimates for classes of pseudodifferential operators with singular symbols whose non-pseudodifferential (Fourier integral operator) parts exhibit two-sided fold singularities. The operators considered include both singular integral operators along curves in $R^2$ with simple inflection points and normal operators arising in linearized seismic imaging in the presence of fold caustics.
