In this paper, we present several algorithms for dealing with graded components of Laurent polynomial rings. To be more precise, let $S$ be the Laurent polynomial ring $k[x_1,...,x_{r},x_{r+1}^{\pm 1},..., x_n^{\pm 1}]$, $k$ algebraicaly closed field of characteristic 0. We define the multigrading of $S$ by an arbitrary finitely generated abelian group $A$. We construct a set of fans compatible with the multigrading and use this fans to compute the graded components of $S$ using polytopes. We give an algorithm to check whether the graded components of $S$ are finite dimensional. Regardless of the dimension, we determine a finite set of generators of each graded component as a module over the component of homogeneous polynomials of degree 0.
Let $R=\bigoplus_{n\ges0}R_n$ be a graded commutative ring generated over a field $K=R_0$ by homogeneous elements $x_1,\dots,x_e$ of positive degrees $d_1,\dots,d_e$. The Hilbert-Serre Theorem shows that for each finite graded $R$--module $M=\bigoplus_{n\in\BZ}M_n$ the {\it Hilbert series\/} $\sum_{n\in\BZ}(\rank_K M_n)t^n$ is the Laurent expansion around $0$ of a rational function $$ H_M(t)=\frac{q_M(t)}{\prod_{i=1}^e(1-t^{d_i})} $$ with $q_M(t)\in\BZ[t,\ti]$. We demonstrate that Laurent expansions $\left[M\right]_z$ of $H_M(t)$ around other points $z$ of the extended complex plane $\overline…
If $R$ is an integral domain and $A$ is an $R$-algebra, then $A$ has the {\it Laurent cancellation property over $R$} if $A^{[\pm n]}\cong_RB^{[\pm n]}$ implies $A\cong_RB$ ($n\ge 0$ and $B$ an $R$-algebra). Here, $A^{[\pm n]}$ denotes the ring of Laurent polynomials in $n$ variables over $A$. Our main result (Thm. 4.3) is that, if the transcendence degree of $A$ over $R$ is one, then $A$ has the Laurent cancellation property. The proof uses the characterization of Laurent polynomial rings given in Thm. 3.2.
We prove constructively that for any finite-dimensional commu- tative ring R, every stably free module over R[X;X^{1}] of rank > dim R is free, i.e., R[X;X^{-1}] is (dimR)-Hermite.
We study the question if projective modules over formal Laurent series rings are extended. We relate this question to the Bass-Quillen conjecture for commutative regular local rings and to the Hermite ring conjecture for all commutative local rings. Using our result about projective modules over formal Laurent series rings, we prove a reduction step for the Hermite ring conjecture. We show that the Hermite ring conjecture holds for all commutative local rings if and only if it holds for complete intersection rings which are also unique factorization domains.
In this paper we proved that if $R$ is right $ω$-Euclidean domain, then skew Laurent formal series ring is right $ω$-Euclidean domain. We also showed that if $R$ is a right $ω$-Euclidean domain with multiplicative norm, then skew Laurent formal series ring is a right principal ideal domain. In addition, we proved that if $R$ is a noncommutative $ω$-Euclidean domain with a multiplicative norm, then $R$ and skew Laurent formal series ring is a ring with elementary reduction of matrices.
Dolgachev proved that, for any field k, the ring naturally associated to a generic Laurent polynomial in d variables, $d \geq 4$, is factorial. We prove a sufficient condition for the ring associated to a very general complex Laurent polynomial in d=3 variables to be Q-factorial.
A finitely generated module over the ring L=Z[t, t^{-1}] of integer Laurent polynomials that has no Z-torsion is determined by a pair of sub-lattices of L^d. Their indices are the absolute values of the leading and trailing coefficients of the order of the module. This description has applications in knot theory.
We first present a filtration on the ring L of Laurent polynomials such that the direct sum decomposition of its associated graded ring gr L agrees with the direct sum decomposition of gr L, as a module over the complex general linear Lie algebra gl(n), into its simple submodules. Next, generalizing the simple modules occurring in gr L, we give some explicit constructions of weight multiplicity-free irreducible representations of gl(n).
Let $R$ be a $G$-graded ring. In this article, we introduce two new concepts on graded rings, namely, weakly graded rings and invertible graded rings, and we discuss the relations between these concepts and several properties of graded rings. Also, we study the concept of weakly crossed products and study some properties defined on weakly crossed product and give the relationship between this new concept and several properties of graded rings. Moreover, in this article, we give a generalization for the concept of graded essential submodules, and introduce the concept of graded semi-uniform mod…
Let $G$ be a group with identity $e$. Let $R$ be a $G$-graded commutative ring and $M$ a graded $R$-module. In this paper, we introduce the concept of graded classical and graded strongly classical 2-absorbing second submodules of graded modules over a graded commutative rings. A number of results concerning these classes of graded submodules and their homogeneous components are given.
Let $k$ be a field. We determine the ideals $I$ in a finitely generated graded $k$-algebra $A$, whose associated graded rings are isomorphic to $A$. Also we compute the graded local cohomologies of the Rees rings $A[I t]$ and give the condition for $A[I t]$ to be generalized Cohen-Macaulay.
This paper deals with the graded commutative rings in which every homogeneous prime ideal is contained in a unique homogeneous maximal ideal called Gelfand graded ring. The purpose is to establish some topological and algebraic characterizations of these rings, one of which is the algebraic analogue of the Urysohn's lemma. Finally we look at a special class of those graded rings called pm$^+$ graded rings which can be viewed as graded ring with a Gelfand strong property.
We study chains of lattice ideals that are invariant under a symmetric group action. In our setting, the ambient rings for these ideals are polynomial rings which are increasing in (Krull) dimension. Thus, these chains will fail to stabilize in the traditional commutative algebra sense. However, we prove a theorem which says that "up to the action of the group", these chains locally stabilize. We also give an algorithm, which we have implemented in software, for explicitly constructing these stabilization generators for a family of Laurent toric ideals involved in applications to algebraic sta…
Let R be a Noetherian commutative ring of dimension n >2 and let A=R[T,T^{-1}]. Assume that the height of the Jacobson radical of R is atleast 2. Let P be a projective A-module of rank n=dim A - 1 with trivial determinant. We define an abelian group called the "Euler class group of A", denoted by E(A). Let χbe an isomorphism from A to det(P). To the pair (P,χ), we associate an element of E(A), called the Euler class of P, denoted by e(P,χ). Then we prove that a necessary and sufficient condition for P to have a unimodular element is the vanishing of e(P,χ) in E(A). Earlier, Bhatwadekar and Raj…
Let $G$ be a group with identity $e$. Let $R$ be a $G$-graded commutative ring and $M$ a graded $R$-module. In this paper, we introduce the concept of graded primary-like submodules as a new generalization of graded primary ideals and give some basic results about graded primary-like submodules of graded modules. Special attention has been paid, when graded submodules satisfies the gr-primeful property, to find extra properties of these graded submodules.
Let $R$ be a $G$-graded ring and M be a $G$-graded $R$-module. We define the graded primary spectrum of $M$, denoted by $\mathcal{PS}_G(M)$, to be the set of all graded primary submodules $Q$ of M such that $(Gr_M(Q):_R M)=Gr((Q:_R M))$. In this paper, we define a topology on $\mathcal{PS}_G(M)$ having the Zariski topology on the graded prime spectrum $Spec_G(M)$ as a subspace topology, and investigate several topological properties of this topological space.
In this paper, we study the structure of the graded ring associated to a limit key polynomial $Q_n$ in terms of the key polynomials that define $Q_n$. In order to do that, we use direct limits. In general, we describe the direct limit of a family of graded rings associated to a totally ordered set of valuations. As an example, we describe the graded ring associated to a valuation-algebraic valuation as a direct limit of graded rings associated to residue-transcendental valuations.
We compute the Hilbert series of the graded algebra of regular functions on a symplectic quotient of a unitary circle representation. Additionally, we elaborate explicit formulas for the lowest coefficients of the Laurent expansion of such a Hilbert series in terms of rational symmetric functions of the weights. Considerable efforts are devoted to including the cases where the weights are degenerate. We find that these Laurent expansions formally resemble Laurent expansions of Hilbert series of graded rings of real invariants of finite subgroups of $\U_n$. Moreover, we prove that certain Laure…
We prove necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of homogeneous prime elements in normal N-graded rings of dimension two, in terms of rational coefficient Weil divisors on projective curves.
Let $G$ be a group with identity $e$. Let $R$ be a $G$-graded commutative ring with identity and $M$ a graded $R$-module. In this paper, we introduce the concept of graded $I_{e}$-prime submodule as a generalization of a graded prime submodule for $I=\oplus_{g\in G}I_{g}$ a fixed graded ideal of $R$. We give a number of results concerning of these classes of graded submodules and their homogeneous components. A proper graded submodule $N$ of $M$ is said to be a graded $I_{e}$-prime submodule of $M$ if whenever $% r_{g}\in h(R)$ and $m_{h}\in h(M)$ with $r_{g}m_{h}\in N-I_{e}N,$ then either $r_…
In this article, we give the explicit minimal free resolution of the associated graded ring of certain affine monomial curves in affine 4-space based on the standard basis theory. As a result, we give the minimal graded free resolution and compute the Hilbert function of the tangent cone of these families.
Lance Bryant noticed in his thesis that there was a flaw in our paper "Associated graded rings of one-dimensional analytically irreducible rings", J. Algebra 304 (2006), 349-358. It can be fixed by adding a condition, called the BF condition. We discuss some equivalent conditions, and show that they are fulfilled for some classes of rings, in particular for our motivating example of semigroup rings. Furthermore we discuss the connection to a similar result, stated in more generality, by Cortadella-Zarzuela. Finally we use our result to conclude when a semigroup ring in embedding dimension at m…
In this paper, we give the necessary and sufficient conditions for the Cohen-Macaulayness of the associated graded ring of a simplicial affine semigroups using Gröbner basis. We generalize the concept of homogeneous numerical semigroup for the simplicial affine semigroup and show that the Betti numbers of the corresponding semigroup ring matches with the Betti numbers of the associated graded ring. We also define the nice extension for simplicial affine semigroups, motivated by the notion of a nice extension of the numerical semigroups.
Given a local Cohen-Macaulay ring $(R, {\mathfrak m})$, we study the interplay between the integral closedness -- or even the normality -- of an ${\mathfrak m}$-primary $R$-ideal $I$ and conditions on the Hilbert coefficients of $I$. We relate these properties to the depth of the associated graded ring of $I$.
We define what it means for a Cohen-Macaulay ring to to be super-stretched and show that Cohen-Macaulay rings of graded countable Cohen-Macaulay type are super-stretched. We use this result to show that rings of graded countable Cohen-Macaulay type, and positive dimension, have possible h-vectors (1), (1,n), or (1,n,1). Further, one dimensional standard graded Gorenstein rings of graded countable type are shown to be hypersurfaces; this result is not known in higher dimensions. In the non-Gorenstein case, rings of graded countable Cohen-Macaulay type of dimension larger than 2 are shown to be …
In this paper we show a partial answer the a question of C. Huneke and G. Leuschke (2003): Let R be a standard graded Cohen-Macaulay ring of graded countable Cohen-Macaulay representation type, and assume that R has an isolated singularity. Is R then necessarily of graded finite Cohen-Macaulay representation type? In particular, this question has an affirmative answer for standard graded non-Gorenstein rings as well as for standard graded Gorenstein rings of minimal multiplicity. Along the way, we obtain a partial classification of graded Cohen-Macaulay rings of graded countable Cohen-Macaulay…
In 2012, Ananthnarayan, Avramov and Moore gave a new construction of Gorenstein rings from two Gorenstein local rings, called their connected sum. In this article, we investigate conditions on the associated graded ring of a Gorenstein Artin local ring Q, which force it to be a connected sum over its residue field. In particular, we recover some results regarding short, and stretched, Gorenstein Artin rings. Finally, using these decompositions, we obtain results about the rationality of the Poincare series of Q.
By definition, an $\m$-primary ideal $I$ in a 2-dimensional regular local ring $(R, \m)$ is contracted if $I=R \cap IR[\m/x]$ for some $x \in \m \setminus \m^2$. Contracted ideals have been introduced by Zariski and used for proving the unique factorization theorem for complete (i.e. integrally closed) ideals. Any complete ideal is contracted but not the other way round. While the associated graded rings to complete ideals are always Cohen-Macaulay, this is not the case for contracted ideals. Our goal is to study depth, Hilbert function and defining equations of the graded rings of homogeneous…
If $i:A\subset B$ is a commutative ring extension, we show that the group $\mathcal I(A,B)$ of invertible $A$-submodules of $B$ is contracted in the sense of Bass, with $L\mathcal I(A,B)=H^0_{et}(A,i_*\mathbb Z/\mathbb Z)$. This gives a canonical decomposition for $\mathcal I(A[t,\frac1t],B[t,\frac1t])$.
Let $K$ be a non-empty set of ideals of the commutative ring $R$, closed under taking smaller ideals. A subset $X$ of the group ring $R[\mathbb{Z}^s]$ is called a $K$-set if the ideal generated by the coefficients of the elements of $X$ is in $K$. For $X$ not a $K$-set we investigate the set of those homomorphisms $p \colon \mathbb{Z}^s \to \mathbb{Z}^t$ such that $p_*(X)$ is a $K$-set. We also consider corresponding notions of rank of matrices and Betti numbers of chain complexes; this includes an analysis of the case of McCoy rank. Our setup also recovers results on jump loci obtained by Koh…
The behaviour under coarsening functors of simple, entire, or reduced graded rings, of free graded modules over principal graded rings, of superfluous monomorphisms and of homological dimensions of graded modules, as well as adjoints of degree restriction functors, are investigated.
We investigate scalar restriction, scalar extension, and scalar coextension functors for graded modules, including their interplay with coarsening functors, graded tensor products, and graded Hom functors. This leads to several characterisations of epimorphisms of graded rings.
Let $A$ be a commutative augmented ring and $I$ be its augmentation ideal. This paper shows that the sequence $\{I^n/I^{n+1}\}$ becomes stationary up to isomorphism. The result yields stability in the associated graded ring of $A$ along $I$.
Let $G$ be a group with identity $e$. Let $R$ be a $G$-graded commutative ring, $M$ a graded $R$-module and $A\subseteq h(R)$ a multiplicatively closed subset of $R$. In this paper, we introduce the concept of graded $A$-2-absorbing submodules of $M$ as a generalization of graded 2-absorbing submodules and graded $A$-prime submodules of $M.$ We investigate some properties of this class of graded submodules.
The main goal of this article is to introduce the concept of $EM-G-$graded rings. This concept is an extension of the notion of $EM-$rings. Let $G$ be a group and $R$ be a $G-$graded commutative ring. The $G-$gradation of $R$ can be extended to $R[x]$ by taking the components $(R[x])_σ=R_σ[x]$. We define $R$ to be $EM-G-$graded ring if every homogeneous zero divisor polynomial has an annihilating content. We provide examples of $EM-G-$graded rings that are not $EM-$rings and we prove some interesting results regarding these rings.
Cox rings of normal varieties are factorially graded, i.e. homogeneous elements allow a unique decomposition into homogeneous factors. We study this property from an algebraic point of view and give a criterion which in a sense reduces it to factoriality. This will allow us to detect and construct Cox rings in a purely algebraic manner.
Let $R$ be a commutative $G$-graded ring with a nonzero unity. In this article, we introduce the concept of graded radically principal ideals. A graded ideal $I$ of $R$ is said to be graded radically principal if $Grad(I)=Grad(\langle c\rangle)$ for some homogeneous $c\in R$, where $Grad(I)$ is the graded radical of $I$. The graded ring $R$ is said to be graded radically principal if every graded ideal of $R$ is graded radically principal. We study graded radically principal rings. We prove an analogue of the Cohen theorem, in the graded case, precisely, a graded ring is graded radically princ…
