Let $R=\bigoplus_{n\ges0}R_n$ be a graded commutative ring generated over a field $K=R_0$ by homogeneous elements $x_1,\dots,x_e$ of positive degrees $d_1,\dots,d_e$. The Hilbert-Serre Theorem shows that for each finite graded $R$--module $M=\bigoplus_{n\in\BZ}M_n$ the {\it Hilbert series\/} $\sum_{n\in\BZ}(\rank_K M_n)t^n$ is the Laurent expansion around $0$ of a rational function
$$ H_M(t)=\frac{q_M(t)}{\prod_{i=1}^e(1-t^{d_i})} $$
with $q_M(t)\in\BZ[t,\ti]$. We demonstrate that Laurent expansions $\left[M\right]_z$ of $H_M(t)$ around other points $z$ of the extended complex plane $\overline\BC$ also carry important structural information.
In this paper, we present several algorithms for dealing with graded components of Laurent polynomial rings. To be more precise, let $S$ be the Laurent polynomial ring $k[x_1,...,x_{r},x_{r+1}^{\pm 1},..., x_n^{\pm 1}]$, $k$ algebraicaly closed field of characteristic 0. We define the multigrading of $S$ by an arbitrary finitely generated abelian group $A$. We construct a set of fans compatible with the multigrading and use this fans to compute the graded components of $S$ using polytopes. We give an algorithm to check whether the graded components of $S$ are finite dimensional. Regardless of …
We compute the Hilbert series of the graded algebra of regular functions on a symplectic quotient of a unitary circle representation. Additionally, we elaborate explicit formulas for the lowest coefficients of the Laurent expansion of such a Hilbert series in terms of rational symmetric functions of the weights. Considerable efforts are devoted to including the cases where the weights are degenerate. We find that these Laurent expansions formally resemble Laurent expansions of Hilbert series of graded rings of real invariants of finite subgroups of $\U_n$. Moreover, we prove that certain Laure…
We first present a filtration on the ring L of Laurent polynomials such that the direct sum decomposition of its associated graded ring gr L agrees with the direct sum decomposition of gr L, as a module over the complex general linear Lie algebra gl(n), into its simple submodules. Next, generalizing the simple modules occurring in gr L, we give some explicit constructions of weight multiplicity-free irreducible representations of gl(n).
By a theorem of R. Stanley, a graded Cohen-Macaulay domain $A$ is Gorenstein if and only if its Hilbert series satisfies the functional equation \[ \operatorname{Hilb}_A(t^{-1})=(-1)^d t^{-a}\operatorname{Hilb}_A(t), \] where $d$ is the Krull dimension and $a$ is the a-invariant of $A$. We reformulate this functional equation in terms of an infinite system of linear constraints on the Laurent coefficients of $\operatorname{Hilb}_A(t)$ at $t=1$. The main idea consists of examining the graded algebra $\mathcal F=\bigoplus_{r\in \mathbb{Z}}\mathcal F_r$ of formal power series in the variable $x$ …
Let $K$ be the field of Laurent series with complex coefficients, let $\mathcal{R}$ be the inverse limit of the standard-graded polynomial rings $K[x_1, \ldots, x_n]$, and let $\mathcal{R}^{\flat}$ be the subring of $\mathcal{R}$ consisting of elements with bounded denominators. In previous joint work with Erman and Sam, we showed that $\mathcal{R}$ and $\mathcal{R}^{\flat}$ (and many similarly defined rings) are abstractly polynomial rings, and used this to give new proofs of Stillman's conjecture. In this paper, we prove the complementary result that $\mathcal{R}$ is a polynomial algebra ove…
We compute the Hilbert series of the graded algebra of real regular functions on the symplectic quotient associated to an $\operatorname{SU}_2$-module and give an explicit expression for the first nonzero coefficient of the Laurent expansion of the Hilbert series at $t = 1$. Our expression for the Hilbert series indicates an algorithm to compute it, and we give the output of this algorithm for representations of dimension at most $10$. Along the way, we compute the Hilbert series of the module of covariants of an arbitrary $\operatorname{Sl}_2$- or $\operatorname{SU}_2$-module as well its firs…
Let $A\subseteq B$ be a commutative ring extension. Let $\mathcal I(A, B)$ be the multiplicative group of invertible $A$-submodules of $B$. In this article, we extend a result of Sadhu and Singh by finding a necessary and sufficient condition on an integral birational extension $A\subseteq B$ of integral domains with $\dim A\leq 1$, so that the natural map $\mathcal I(A,B) \rightarrow \mathcal I (A [X, X^{-1}],B [X, X^{-1}])$ is an isomorphism. In the same situation, we show that if $\dim A\geq 2$ then the condition is necessary but not sufficient. We also discuss some properties of the cokern…
We study the question if projective modules over formal Laurent series rings are extended. We relate this question to the Bass-Quillen conjecture for commutative regular local rings and to the Hermite ring conjecture for all commutative local rings. Using our result about projective modules over formal Laurent series rings, we prove a reduction step for the Hermite ring conjecture. We show that the Hermite ring conjecture holds for all commutative local rings if and only if it holds for complete intersection rings which are also unique factorization domains.
Let $G$ be a group with identity $e$. Let $R$ be a $G$-graded commutative ring and $M$ a graded $R$-module. In this paper, we introduce the concept of graded primary-like submodules as a new generalization of graded primary ideals and give some basic results about graded primary-like submodules of graded modules. Special attention has been paid, when graded submodules satisfies the gr-primeful property, to find extra properties of these graded submodules.
We introduce a notion of degenerations of graded modules. In relation to it, we also introduce several partial orders as graded analogies of the hom order, the degeneration order and the extension order. We prove that these orders are identical on the graded Cohen-Macaulay modules if a graded ring is of graded finite representation type and representation directed.
Let $G$ be an abelian group with identity $e$. Let $R$ be a $G$-graded commutative ring and $M$ a graded $R$-module. In this paper we will obtain some results concerning the graded generalized 2-absorbing submodules and their homogeneous components. Special attention has been paid, when graded rings are graded gr-Noetherian, to find extra properties of these graded submodules.
Let $M$ and $N$ be finitely generated graded modules over a graded complete intersection $R$ such that $\operatorname{Ext}_R^i(M,N)$ has finite length for all $i\gg 0$. We show that the even and odd Hilbert polynomials, which give the lengths of $\operatorname{Ext}^i_R(M,N)$ for all large even $i$ and all large odd $i$, have the same degree and leading coefficient whenever the highest degree of these polynomials is at least the dimension of $M$ or $N$. Refinements of this result are given when $R$ is regular in small codimensions.
Let $S$ be a polynomial ring in $n$ variables over a field $K$ of characteristic $0$. A numerical characterization of all possible extremal Betti numbers of any graded submodule of a finitely generated graded free $S$-module is given.
We investigate scalar restriction, scalar extension, and scalar coextension functors for graded modules, including their interplay with coarsening functors, graded tensor products, and graded Hom functors. This leads to several characterisations of epimorphisms of graded rings.
