We define an affine Jacquet functor and use it to describe the structure of induced affine Harish-Chandra modules at noncritical levels, extending the theorem of Kac and Kazhdan [KK] on the structure of Verma modules in the Bernstein-Gelfand-Gelfand categories O for Kac-Moody algebras. This is combined with a vanishing result for certain extension groups to construct a block decomposition of the categories of affine Harish-Chandra modules of Lian and Zuckerman [LZ]. The latter provides an extension of the works of Rocha-Caridi, Wallach [RW] and Deodhar, Gabber, Kac [DGK] on block decompositions of BGG categories for Kac-Moody algebras. We also prove a compatibility relation between the affine Jacquet functor and the Kazhdan-Lusztig tensor product. A modification of this is used to prove that the affine Harish-Chandra category is stable under fusion tensoring with the Kazhdan-Lusztig category (a case of our finiteness result [Y]) and will be further applied in studying translation functors for Kac-Moody algebras, based on the fusion tensor product.
In this thesis, we study the Casselman-Jacquet functor. We discuss a new technical approach which makes the Casselman-Jacquet functor right adjoint to the Bernstein functor. We give an explanation, using D-modules, of the Bruhat filtration appearing on the module obtained by applying the Casselman-Jacquet functor to a principal series representation. We record some conjectures.
In the first part of the paper we generalize a descent technique due to Harish-Chandra to the case of a reductive group acting on a smooth affine variety both defined over an arbitrary local field F of characteristic zero. Our main tool is the Luna Slice Theorem. In the second part of the paper we apply this technique to symmetric pairs. In particular we prove that the pairs (GL(n+k,F), GL(n,F) x GL(k,F)) and (GL(n,E), GL(n,F)) are Gelfand pairs for any local field F and its quadratic extension E. In the non-Archimedean case, the first result was proven earlier by Jacquet and Rallis and the se…
We propose a new approach for the study of the Jacquet module of a Harish-Chandra module of a real semisimple Lie group. Using this method, we investigate the structure of the Jacquet module of principal series representation generated by the trivial $K$-type.
We study the Casselman-Jacquet functor $J$, viewed as a functor from the (derived) category of $(\mathfrak{g},K)$-modules to the (derived) category of $(\mathfrak{g},N^-)$-modules, $N^-$ is the negative maximal unipotent. We give a functorial definition of $J$ as a certain right adjoint functor, and identify it as a composition of two averaging functors $\text{Av}^{N^-}_!\circ \text{Av}^N_*$. We show that it is also isomorphic to the composition $\text{Av}^{N^-}_*\circ \text{Av}^N_!$. Our key tool is the pseudo-identity functor that acts on the (derived) category of (twisted) $D$-modules on an…
The Emerton-Jacquet functor is a tool for studying locally analytic representations of p-adic Lie groups. It provides a way to access the theory of p-adic automorphic forms. Here we give an adjunction formula for the Emerton-Jacquet functor, relating it directly to locally analytic inductions, under a strict hypothesis that we call non-critical. We also further study the relationship to socles of principal series in the non-critical setting.
Let $G$ be a $p$-adic Lie group associated to a connected reductive group over $\mathbb{Q}_{p}$. Let $P$ be a parabolic subgroup of $G$ and let $M$ be a Levi quotient of $P$. In this paper, we define a $δ$-functor $H^{\star}J_{P}$ from the category of admissible locally analytic $G$-representations to the category of essentially admissible locally analytic $M$-representations that extends the Jacquet-Emerton module functor $J_{P}$ defined by Emerton.
Let (G,K) be a symmetric pair over the complex numbers, and let X=K\G be the corresponding symmetric space. In this paper we study a nearby cycles functor associated to a degeneration of X to MN\G, which we call the "wonderful degeneration". We show that on the category of character sheaves on X, this functor is isomorphic to a composition of two averaging functors (a parallel result, on the level of functions in the p-adic setting, was obtained in [BK, SV]). As an application, we obtain a formula for the geometric Jacquet functor of [ENV] and use this formula to give a geometric proof of the …
This paper studies Emerton's Jacquet module functor for locally analytic representations of p-adic reductive groups. When P is a parabolic subgroup whose Levi factor M is not commutative, we show that passing to an isotypical subspace for the derived subgroup of M gives rise to essentially admissible locally analytic representations of the torus Z(M), which have a natural interpretation in terms of rigid geometry. We use this to extend Emerton's representation-theoretic construction of eigenvarieties by constructing eigenvarieties interpolating automorphic representations whose local component…
Let F be a non-Archimedean local field or a finite field. Let n be a natural number and k be 1 or 2. Consider G:=GL(n+k,F) and let M:=GL(n,F) x GL(k,F)<G be a maximal Levi subgroup. Let U< G be the corresponding unipotent subgroup and let P=MU be the corresponding parabolic subgroup. Let J denote the Jacquet functor from representations of G to representations of M (i.e. the functor of coinvariants w.r.t. U). In this paper we prove that J is a multiplicity free functor, i.e. dim Hom(J(π),ρ)<= 1, for any irreducible representations πof G and ρof M. To do that we adapt the classical method of Ge…
The main result of the paper is a natural construction of the spherical subalgebra in a symplectic reflection algebra associated with a wreath-product in terms of quantum hamiltonian reduction of an algebra of differential operators on a representation space of an extended Dynkin quiver. The existence of such a construction has been conjectured in [EG]. We also present a new approach to reflection functors and shift functors for generalized preprojective algebras and symplectic reflection algebras associated with wreath-products.
In this paper we study a generalization of the Jacquet module of a parabolic induction and construct a filtration on it. The successive quotient of the filtration is written by using the twisting functor.
The Slodowy slice is an especially nice slice to a given nilpotent conjugacy class in a semisimple Lie algebra. Premet introduced noncommutative quantizaions of the Poisson algebra of polynomial functions on the Slodowy slice. In this paper, we define and study Harish-Chandra bimodules over Premet's algebras. We apply the technique of Harish-Chandra bimodules to prove a conjecture of Premet concerning primitive ideals, and to construct `noncommutative resolutions' of Slodowy slices via translation functors.
Harish-Chandra induction and restriction functors play a key role in the representation theory of reductive groups over finite fields. In this paper, extending earlier work of Dat, we introduce and study generalisations of these functors which apply to a wide range of finite and profinite groups, typical examples being compact open subgroups of reductive groups over non-archimedean local fields. We prove that these generalisations are compatible with two of the tools commonly used to study the (smooth, complex) representations of such groups, namely Clifford theory and the orbit method. As a t…

We present a categorical point of view on dynamical quantum groups in terms of categories of Harish-Chandra bimodules. We prove Tannaka duality theorems for forgetful functors into the monoidal category of Harish-Chandra bimodules in terms of a slight modification of the notion of a bialgebroid. Moreover, we show that the standard dynamical quantum groups $F(G)$ and $F_q(G)$ are related to parabolic restriction functors for classical and quantum Harish-Chandra bimodules. Finally, we exhibit a natural Weyl symmetry of the parabolic restriction functor using Zhelobenko operators and show that it…
We establish several new properties of the $p$-adic Jacquet-Langlands functor defined by Scholze in terms of the cohomology of the Lubin-Tate tower. In particular, we reprove Scholze's basic finiteness theorems, prove a duality theorem, and show a kind of partial Künneth formula. Using these results, we deduce bounds on Gelfand-Kirillov dimension, together with some new vanishing and nonvanishing results. Our key new tool is the six functor formalism with solid almost $\mathcal{O}^+/p$-coefficients developed recently by the second author [Man22]. One major point of this paper is to extend the …
The category of character D-modules is realized as Drinfeld center of the abelian monoidal category of Harish-Chandra bimodules. Tensor product of Harish-Chandra bimodules is related to convolution of D-modules via the long intertwining functor (Radon transform) by a result of Beilinson and Ginzburg. Exactness property of the long intertwining functor on a cell subquotient of the Harish-Chandra bimodules category shows that the truncated convolution category can be realized as a subquotient of the category of Harish-Chandra bimodules. Together with the description of the truncated convolution …
Let G be a reductive group and L a Levi subgroup. Parabolic induction and restriction are a pair of adjoint functors between Ad-equivariant derived categories of either constructible sheaves or (not necessarily holonomic) D-modules on G and L, respectively. Bezrukavnikov and Yom Din proved, generalizing a classic result of Lusztig, that these functors are exact. In this paper, we consider a special case where L=T is a maximal torus. We give explicit formulas for parabolic induction and restriction in terms of the Harish-Chandra D-module on G x T. We show that this module is flat over D(T), whi…
An interpretation of the Casselman-Wallach (C-W) Theorem is that the $K$-finite functor is an isomorphism of categories from the category of finitely generated, admissible smooth Fréchet modules of moderate growth to the category of Harish-Chandra modules for a real reductive group, $G$ (here $K$ is a maximal compact subgroup of G).In this paper we study the dependence of this functor on parameters. Our main result implies that holomorphic dependence implies holomorphic dependence. The work uses results from the excellent thesis of van der Noort. Also a remarkable family of Universal Harish-Ch…
We continue the study of the fundamental series of generalized Harish-Chandra modules initiated in [PZ2]. Generalized Harish-Chandra modules are (g,k)-modules of finite type where g is a semisimple Lie algebra and k \subset g is a reductive in g subalgebra. A first result of the present paper is that a fundamental series module is a g-module of finite length. We then define the notions of strongly and weakly reconstructible simple (g,k)-modules M which reflect to what extent M can be determined via its appearance in the socle of a fundamental series module. In the second part of the paper we c…
This paper dwells upon two aspects of affine supergroup theory, investigating the links among them. First, I discuss the "splitting" properties of affine supergroups, i.e. special kinds of factorizations they may admit - either globally, or pointwise. Second, I present a new contribution to the study of affine supergroups by means of super Harish-Chandra pairs (a method already introduced by Koszul, and later extended by other authors). Namely, I provide an explicit, functorial construction Ψwhich, with each super Harish-Chandra pair, associates an affine supergroup that is always globally str…
In the first part of the paper we generalize a descent technique due to Harish-Chandra to the case of a reductive group acting on a smooth affine variety both defined over arbitrary local field F of characteristic zero. Our main tool is Luna slice theorem. In the second part of the paper we apply this technique to symmetric pairs. In particular we prove that the pair (GL(n,C),GL(n,R)) is a Gelfand pair. We also prove that any conjugation invariant distribution on GL(n,F) is invariant with respect to transposition. For non-archimedean F the later is a classical theorem of Gelfand and Kazhdan. W…
We present a simple proof of a strengthening of the derived Beilinson-Bernstein localization theorem using the formalism of descent in derived algebraic geometry. The arguments and results apply to arbitrary modules without the need to fix infinitesimal character. Roughly speaking, we demonstrate that all Ug-modules are the invariants, or equivalently coinvariants, of the action of intertwining functors (a refined form of Weyl group symmetry). This is a quantum version of descent for the Grothendieck-Springer simultaneous resolution. In an appendix we present an alternative perspective, which …
In a previous work, we have shown that a representation of a $p$-adic group obtained by (normalized) parabolic induction from an irreducible supercuspidal representation $σ$ of a Levi subgroup $M$ contains a subquotient which is square integrable, if and only if Harish-Chandra's $μ$-function has a pole in $σ$ of order equal to the parabolic rank of $M$. The aim of the present article is to interpret this result in terms of Langlands' functoriality principle.
We use analogues of Enright's and Arkhipov's functors to determine the quiver and relations for a category of $\mathfrak{sl}_2 \ltimes L(4)$-modules which are locally finite (and with finite multiplicities) over $\mathfrak{sl}_2$. We also outline serious obstacles to extend our result to $\mathfrak{sl}_2 \ltimes L(k)$, for $k>4$.
We review the Beilinson-Ginzburg construction of equivariant derived categories of Harish-Chandra modules, and introduce analogues of Zuckerman functors in this setting. They are given by an explicit formula, which works equally well in the case of modules with a given infinitesimal character, which is important if one wants to apply Beilinson-Bernstein localization. We also show how to recover the usual Zuckerman functors from the equivariant ones by passing to cohomology.
We define exact functors from categories of Harish-Chandra modules for certain real classical groups to finite-dimensional modules over an associated graded affine Hecke algebra with parameters. We then study some of the basic properties of these functors. In particular, we show that they map irreducible spherical representations to irreducible spherical representations and, moreover, that they preserve unitarity. In the case of split classical groups, we thus obtain a functorial inclusion of the real spherical unitary dual (with real infinitesimal character) into the corresponding p-adic sphe…
We define an exact functor $F_{n,k}$ from the category of Harish-Chandra modules for $GL(n,R)$ to the category of finite-dimensional representations for the degenerate affine Hecke algebra for $gl(k)$. Under certain natural hypotheses, we prove that the functor maps standard modules to standard modules (or zero) and irreducibles to irreducibles (or zero).
We prove that the Jacquet restriction functor for a parabolic subgroup of a reductive group over a non-Archimedean local field is right adjoint to the parabolic induction functor for the opposite parabolic subgroup, in the generality of smooth group representations on R-modules for any unital ring R in which the residue field characteristic is invertible. Correction: it turned out that the paper contains a mistake (in Lemma 3.4), which the authors have been unable to fix. This renders the proof of the main theorem incomplete.
For a finite-dimensional Lie algebra $\mathfrak{L}$ over $\mathbb{C}$ with a fixed Levi decomposition $\mathfrak{L} = \mathfrak{g} \oplus \mathfrak{r}$ where $\mathfrak{g}$ is semi-simple, we investigate $\mathfrak{L}$-modules which decompose, as $\mathfrak{g}$-modules, into a direct sum of simple finite-dimensional $\mathfrak{g}$-modules with finite multiplicities. We call such modules $\mathfrak{g}$-Harish-Chandra modules. We give a complete classification of simple $\mathfrak{g}$-Harish-Chandra modules for the Takiff Lie algebra associated to $\mathfrak{g} = \mathfrak{sl}_2$, and for the Sc…
Let G=GL(N), K=GL(p)xGL(q), where p+q=N, and n be a positive integer. We construct a functor from the category of Harish-Chandra modules for the pair (G,K) to the category of representations of the degenerate affine Hecke algebra of type B_n, and a functor from the category of K-monodromic twisted D-modules on G/K to the category of representations of the degenerate double affine Hecke algebra of type BC_n; the second functor is an extension of the first one. These functors are generalizations of the type A functors from q-alg/9710037 and math/0702670, respectively.
For Iwahori-spherical representations of non-Archimedean general linear groups, Chan-Savin recently expressed the Whittaker functor as a restriction to an isotypic component of a finite Iwahori-Hecke algebra module. We generalize this method to describe principal degenerate Whittaker functors. Concurrently, we view Murnaghan's formula for the Harish-Chandra--Howe character as a Grothendieck group expansion of the same module. Comparing the two approaches through the lens of Zelevinsky's PSH-algebras, we obtain an explicit unitriangular transition matrix between coefficients of the character ex…
The paper studies quadratic and Koszul duality for modules over positively graded categories. Typical examples are modules over a path algebra, which is graded by the path length, of a not necessarily finite quiver with relations. We present a very general definition of quadratic and Koszul duality functors backed up by explicit examples. This generalises previous results in two substantial ways: We work in the setup of graded categories, i.e. we allow infinitely many idempotents and also define a ``Koszul'' duality functor for not necessarily Koszul categories. As an illustration of the techn…
In this article we prove a conjecture of Braverman-Kazhdan in \cite{BK} on the acyclicity of gamma sheaves in the de Rham setting. The proof relies on the techniques developed in \cite{BFO} on Drinfeld center of Harish-Chandra bimodules and character D-modules. As an application, we show that the functors of convolution with gamma D-modules, which can be viewed as a version of non-linear Fourier transforms, commute with induction functors and are exact on the category of admissible D-modules on a reductive group.
Let G=U(p,q) and K=U(p)xU(q). In arXiv:0801.1530, the authors construct a functor from the category of Harish-Chandra modules for the pair (G,K) to the category of representations of the degenerate affine Hecke algebra of type B_n. In this paper, we study the image of the principal series modules of G under this functor. We describe the dAHA module structure of the image by constructing a family of common eigenvectors of {y_i}. In the rank 1 case, we write down an explicit formula for the generator y_{1} in terms of central elements of U(g) and calculate the eigenvalue of y_{1} by using the ce…
This paper proves the existence of global rational structures on spaces of cusp forms of general reductive groups. We identify cases where the constructed rational structures are optimal, which includes the case of GL($n$). As an application, we deduce the existence of a natural set of periods attached to cuspidal automorphic representations of GL($n$). This has consequences for the arithmetic of special values of $L$-functions that we discuss in subsequent articles. In the course of proving our results, we lay the foundations for a general theory of Harish-Chandra modules over arbitrary field…
Let an algebraic group G act on X, a connected algebraic manifold, with finitely many orbits. For any Harish-Chandra pair (D,G) where D is a sheaf of twisted differential operators on X, we form a left ideal D.g in D generated by the Lie algebra g, of G. Then, D/D.g is a holonomic D-module and its restriction to a unique Zariski open dense G-orbit in X is a G-equivariant local system. We prove a criterion saying that the D-module D/D.g is isomorphic, under certain (quite restrictive) conditions, to a direct image of that local system to X. We apply this criterion in the special case where the …
The main goal of this paper is to compute two related numerical invariants of a primitive ideal in the universal enveloping algebra of a semisimple Lie algebra. The first one, very classical, is the Goldie rank of an ideal. The second one is the dimension of an irreducible module corresponding to this ideal over an appropriate finite W-algebra. We concentrate on the integral central character case. We prove, modulo a conjecture, that in this case the two are equal. Also, modulo the same conjecture, we compute certain scale factors introduced by Joseph. Our conjecture asserts that there is a on…
Motivated by studying the Unitary Dual Problem, a variation of Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials was defined in [Yee08] which encodes signature information at each level of the Jantzen filtration. These so called signed Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials may be used to compute the signatures of invariant Hermitian forms on irreducible highest weight modules. The key result of this paper is a simple relationship between signed Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials and classical Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials: signed Kahzdan-Lusztig polynomials are shown to equal classical Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials evaluated at $-q$ ra…
