In the first part of the paper we generalize a descent technique due to Harish-Chandra to the case of a reductive group acting on a smooth affine variety both defined over arbitrary local field F of characteristic zero. Our main tool is Luna slice theorem.
In the second part of the paper we apply this technique to symmetric pairs. In particular we prove that the pair (GL(n,C),GL(n,R)) is a Gelfand pair. We also prove that any conjugation invariant distribution on GL(n,F) is invariant with respect to transposition. For non-archimedean F the later is a classical theorem of Gelfand and Kazhdan.
We use the techniques developed here in our subsequent work [AG3] where we prove an archimedean analog of the theorem on uniqueness of linear periods by H. Jacquet and S. Rallis.
We address two problems regarding the structure and representation theory of finite W-algebras associated with the general linear Lie algebras. Finite W-algebras can be defined either via the Whittaker model of Kostant or, equivalently, by the quantum Hamiltonian reduction. Our first main result is a proof of the Gelfand-Kirillov conjecture for the skew fields of fractions of the finite W-algebras. The second main result is a parametrization of finite families of irreducible Harish-Chandra modules by the characters of the Gelfand-Tsetlin subalgebra. As a corollary, we obtain a complete classif…
The category of character D-modules is realized as Drinfeld center of the abelian monoidal category of Harish-Chandra bimodules. Tensor product of Harish-Chandra bimodules is related to convolution of D-modules via the long intertwining functor (Radon transform) by a result of Beilinson and Ginzburg. Exactness property of the long intertwining functor on a cell subquotient of the Harish-Chandra bimodules category shows that the truncated convolution category can be realized as a subquotient of the category of Harish-Chandra bimodules. Together with the description of the truncated convolution …
Let $ (G,K) $ be an irreducible Hermitian symmetric pair of non-compact type with $G=SU(p,q)$, and let $ λ$ be an integral weight such that the simple highest weight module $ L(λ) $ is a Harish-Chandra $ (\mathfrak{g},K) $-module. We give a combinatoric algorithm for the Gelfand-Kirillov dimension of $ L(λ) $. This enables us to prove that the Gelfand-Kirillov dimension of $ L(λ) $ decreases as the integer $ \langleλ+ρ,β^\vee\rangle $ increases, where $ρ$ is the half sum of positive roots and $β$ is the maximal noncompact root. As a byproduct, we obtain a description on the associated variety …
Let g be a complex simple Lie algebra and h a Cartan subalgebra. The Clifford algebra C(g) of g admits a Harish-Chandra map. Kostant conjectured (as communicated to Bazlov in about 1997) that the value of this map on a (suitably chosen) fundamental invariant of degree 2m+1 is just the zero weight vector of the simple 2m+1-dimensional module of the principal s-triple obtained from the Langlands dual. Bazlov settled this conjecture positively in type A. The Kostant conjecture was reformulated (Alekseev-Bazlov-Rohr) in terms of the Harish-Chandra map for the enveloping algebra U(g) composed with …
Characteristic cycles, leading term cycles, associated varieties and Harish-Chandra cells are computed for the family of highest weight Harish-Chandra modules for Sp(2n, R) having regular integral infinitesimal character.
Let G be a reductive group and L a Levi subgroup. Parabolic induction and restriction are a pair of adjoint functors between Ad-equivariant derived categories of either constructible sheaves or (not necessarily holonomic) D-modules on G and L, respectively. Bezrukavnikov and Yom Din proved, generalizing a classic result of Lusztig, that these functors are exact. In this paper, we consider a special case where L=T is a maximal torus. We give explicit formulas for parabolic induction and restriction in terms of the Harish-Chandra D-module on G x T. We show that this module is flat over D(T), whi…
We study Harish-Chandra representations of Yangian for gl(2). We prove an analogue of Kostant theorem showing that resterited Yangians for gl(2) are free modules over certain maximal commutative subalgebras. We also study the categories of generic Harish-Chandra modules, describe their simple modules and indecomposable modules in tame blocks.
In this paper, it is proved that all irreducible Harish-Chandra modules over the $\Q$ Heisenberg-Virasoro algebra are of intermediate series (all weight spaces are 1-dimensional).
In this paper we continue the study of the category of modular Harish-Chandra bimodules initiated by Bezrukavnikov and Riche and also study the modular version of the BGG category $\mathcal{O}$. We prove a version of the Bezrukavnikov-Mirkovic-Rumynin localization theorem for the Harish-Chandra bimodules and for the category $\mathcal{O}$. We also relate the category of Harish-Chandra bimodules to the affine Hecke category building on the prior work of Bezrukavnikov and Riche.
In this paper, using the theory of $\A$-cover developed in \cite{B1,BF1}, we completely classify all simple Harish-Chandra modules over the high rank $W$-algebra $W(2,2)$. As a byproduct, we obtain the classification of simple Harish-Chandra modules over the classical $W$-algebra $W(2,2)$ studied in \cite{LGZ,CLW,GLZ1}.
Characteristic cycles and leading term cycles of irreducible highest weight Harish-Chandra modules of regular integral infinitesimal character are determined. In the simply laced cases they are irreducible, but in the nonsimply laced cases they are more complicated.
Many examples are given of irreducible Harish-Chandra modules for type C having reducible leading term cycles. Examples are also given of irreducibles in category O having reducible associated varieties in type C.
We show that the coefficients of Kazhdan-Lusztig-Vogan polynomials attached to certain blocks of Harish-Chandra modules satisfy a monotonicity property relative to the closure order on K-orbits in the flag variety.
We show that all the K-finite matrix elements of irreducible Harish-Chandra modules can can be expressed in spherical functions using finite number of operations
We study the effect of the Howe correspondence on Harish-Chandra series for type I dual pairs ($\mathbf{U}_m(\mathbb{F}_q),\mathbf{U}_n(\mathbb{F}_q$)) and ($\mathbf{Sp}_{2m}(\mathbb{F}_q),\mathbf{O}^\pm_{2n}(\mathbb{F}_q)$), where $\mathbb{F}_q$ denotes the finite field with $q$ elements ($q$ odd). We use the Lusztig correspondence to reduce the study of the Howe correspondence between Harish-Chandra series to a correspondence between unipotent Harish-Chandra series. Finally, we provide two applications of these results.
We show how to compute annihilators and associated varieties of simple Harish-Chandra modules for Sp(p,q) with trivial infinitesimal character from a pair of domino tableaux attached to a parameter for such a module.
In this paper, we give a new approach to classify all simple Harish-Chandra modules for the N=1 Ramond algebra based on the so called A-cover theory developed in \cite{BF}
An elementary and self-contained approach to smooth Frechet globalizations of Harish-Chandra modules is presented. We provide applications to the theory of Eisenstein series and Automatic Continuity.
We survey some results on tensor products of irreducible Harish-Chandra bimodules. It turns out that such tensor products are semisimple in suitable Serre quotient categories. We explain how to identify the resulting semisimple tensor categories and describe some applications to representation theory.
The distribution of the unipotent modules (in non-defining prime characteristic) of the finite unitary groups into Harish-Chandra series is investigated. We formulate a series of conjectures relating this distribution with the crystal graph of an integrable module for a certain quantum group. Evidence for our conjectures is presented, as well as proofs for some of their consequences for the crystal graphs involved. In the course of our work we also generalize Harish-Chandra theory for some of the finite classical groups, and we introduce their Harish-Chandra branching graphs.
In this paper we study the category of Harish-Chandra bimodules $HC_{χ,ψ}$ in the Deligne category $\text{Rep}(GL_t)$. In particular, we answer Question 3.25 posed in Pavel Etingof's paper arXiv:1407.0373 and determine for which central characters $χ$ and $ψ$ this category is not zero.
We formulate and prove a Paley-Wiener theorem for Harish-Chandra modules for a real reductive group. As a corollary we obtain a new and elementary proof of the Helgason conjecture.
We construct categories of Harish-Chandra bimodules for affine Lie algebras analogous to Harish-Chandra bimodules with infinitesimal characters for simple Lie algebras, addressing an old problem raised by I. Frenkel and Malikov. Under an integrality hypothesis, we establish monoidal equivalences between blocks of our affine Harish-Chandra bimodules and versions of the affine Hecke category. To do so, we introduce a new singular localization onto Whittaker flag manifolds. The argument for the latter specializes to a somewhat alternative treatment of regular localization, and identifies the cate…
The non-degenerate spherical principal series of quantum Harish-Chandra modules is constructed. These modules appear in the theory of quantum bounded symmertic domains.
In the first part of the paper we generalize a descent technique due to Harish-Chandra to the case of a reductive group acting on a smooth affine variety both defined over an arbitrary local field F of characteristic zero. Our main tool is the Luna Slice Theorem. In the second part of the paper we apply this technique to symmetric pairs. In particular we prove that the pairs (GL(n+k,F), GL(n,F) x GL(k,F)) and (GL(n,E), GL(n,F)) are Gelfand pairs for any local field F and its quadratic extension E. In the non-Archimedean case, the first result was proven earlier by Jacquet and Rallis and the se…
We prove a general existence result for infinite-dimensional admissible (g;k)-modules, where g is a reductive finite-dimensional complex Lie algebra and k is a reductive in g algebraic subalgebra.
We give examples of reducible characteristic cycles for irreducible Harish-Chandra modules for $\mathrm{U}(p,q)$ by analyzing a four-dimensional singular subvariety of $\mathbb{C}^8$. We relate this singularity to the Kashiwara-Saito singularity arising for Schubert varieties for ${\mathrm{GL}}(8,\mathbb{C})$ with reducible characteristic cycles, as well as recent related examples of Williamson. In particular, this gives another explanation of the simple highest weight modules for ${\mathfrak{g}}{\mathfrak{l}}(12,\mathbb{C})$ with reducible associated varieties that Williamson discovered.
We make a first step towards a classification of simple generalized Harish-Chandra modules which are not Harish-Chandra modules or weight modules of finite type. For an arbitrary algebraic reductive pair of complex Lie algebras $(\g,\k)$, we construct, via cohomological induction, the fundamental series $F^\cdot (\p,E)$ of generalized Harish-Chandra modules. We then use $F^\cdot (\p,E)$ to characterize any simple generalized Harish-Chandra module with generic minimal $\k$-type. More precisely, we prove that any such simple $(\g,\k)$-module of finite type arises as the unique simple submodule o…
In this article, we prove that the category of affine group schemes of finite type in the Verlinde category is equivalent to the category of Harish-Chandra pairs in the Verlinde category. Subsequently, we extend this equivalence to an equivalence between corresponding representation categories and then study some consequences of this equivalence to the representation theory of $GL(L)$, with $L$ a simple object in the Verlinde category.
We give a cohomological treatment of a character theory for (g,K)-modules. This leads to a nice formalism extending to large categories of not necessarily admissible (g,K)-modules. Due to results of Hecht, Schmid and Vogan the classical results of Harish-Chandra's global character theory extend to this general setting. As an application we consider a general setup, for which we show that algebraic characters answer discretely decomposable branching problems.
We prove a category equivalence between algebraic supergroups and Harish-Chandra pairs over a commutative ring which is $2$-torsion free. The result is applied to re-construct the Chevalley $\mathbb{Z}$-supergroups constructed by Fioresi and Gavarini [8] and by Gavarini [9, 10]. For a wide class of algebraic supergroups we describe their representations by using their super-hyperalgebras.
In the modular representation theory of finite unitary groups when the characteristic $\ell$ of the ground field is a unitary prime, the $\hat{\mathfrak{sl}}_e$-crystal on level $2$ Fock spaces graphically describes the Harish-Chandra branching of unipotent representations restricted to the tower of unitary groups. However, how to determine the cuspidal support of an arbitrary unipotent representation has remained an open question. We show that for $\ell$ sufficiently large, the $\mathfrak{sl}_\infty$-crystal on the same level $2$ Fock spaces provides the remaining piece of the puzzle for the …
Over an arbitrary field of characteristic $\ne 2$, we define the notion of Harish-Chandra pairs, and prove that the category of those pairs is anti-equivalent to the category of algebraic affine supergroup schemes. The result is applied to characterize some classes of affine supergroup schemes such as those which are (a) simply connected, (b) unipotent or (c) linearly reductive in positive characteristic.
We continue the study of Harish-Chandra bimodules in the setting of the Deligne categories $\mathrm{Rep}(G_t)$, that was started in the previous work of the first author (arXiv:2002.01555). In this work we construct a family of Harish-Chandra bimodules that generalize simple finite dimensional bimodules in the classical case. It turns out that they have finite $K$-type, which is a non-vacuous condition for the Harish-Chandra bimodules in $\mathrm{Rep}(G_t)$. The full classification of (simple) finite $K$-type bimodules is yet unknown. This construction also yields some examples of central char…
The irreducible characters of a finite reductive group are partitioned into Harish-Chandra series that are labelled by cuspidal pairs. In this note, we describe how one can algorithmically calculate those cuspidal pairs using results of Lusztig.
We consider the category of Harish-Chandra modules for ${\rm SL}_2(\mathbb R)$ as a module over the category of finite-dimensional representations of ${\rm SL}(2)$ with respect to the tensor product. In this note we use classical results about principal series to obtain a classification of $\otimes$-submodules of the category of Harish-Chandra modules of ${\rm SL}_2(\mathbb R)$. The resulting classification recovers the classical classification of irreducible Harish-Chandra modules. Our methods are expected to generalize to arbitrary reductive pairs and more general base fields.
In this paper, we introduce the Harish-Chandra homomorphism for the quantum superalgebra $\mathrm{U}_q(\mathfrak{g})$ associated with a simple basic Lie superalgebra $\mathfrak{g}$ and give an explicit description of its image. We use it to prove that the center of $\mathrm{U}_q(\mathfrak{g})$ is isomorphic to a subring of the ring $J(\mathfrak{g})$ of exponential super-invariants in the sense of Sergeev and Veselov, establishing a Harish-Chandra type theorem for $\mathrm{U}_q(\mathfrak{g})$. As a byproduct, we obtain a basis of the center of $\mathrm{U}_q(\mathfrak{g})$ with the aid of quasi-…
For any complex reductive Lie algebra g and any locally finite g-module V, we extend to the tensor product of U(g) with V the Harish-Chandra description of g-invariants in the universal enveloping algebra U(g).
In the case of cyclic quiver we prove that the deformed Harish-Chandra map whose existence was conjectured by Etingof and Ginzburg is well defined. As an application we prove Kirillov-type formula for the cyclotomic Bessel function.
Let $\frak g$ be a reductive Lie algebra over $\bold C$. We say that a $\frak g$-module $M$ is a generalized Harish-Chandra module if, for some subalgebra $\frak k \subset\frak g$, $M$ is locally $\frak k$-finite and has finite $\frak k$-multiplicities. We believe that the problem of classifying all irreducible generalized Harish-Chandra modules could be tractable. In this paper, we review the recent success with the case when $\frak k$ is a Cartan subalgebra. We also review the recent determination of which reductive in $\frak g$ subalgebras $\frak k$ are essential to a classification. Finall…
In this paper, we classify simple strong Harish-Chandra modules over the Lie superalgebra $W_{m,n}$ of vector fields on $\C^{m|n}$. Any such module is the unique simple submodule of some tensor module $F(P,V)$ for a simple weight module $P$ over the Weyl superalgebra $\mathcal K_{m,n}$ and a simple weight module $V$ over the general linear superalgebra $\gl_{m,n}$.
In this paper, we classify all simple Harish-Chandra modules over the super affine-Virasoro algebra $\widehat{\mathcal{L}}=\mathcal{W}\ltimes(\mathfrak{g}\otimes \mathcal{A})\oplus \mathbb{C}C$, where $\mathcal{A}=\mathbb{C}[t^{\pm 1}]\otimesΛ(1)$ is the tensor superalgebra of the Laurent polynomial algebra in even variable $t$ and the Grassmann algebra in odd variable $ξ$, $\mathcal{W}$ is the Lie superalgebra of superderivations of $\mathcal{A}$, and $\mathfrak{g}$ is a finite-dimensional perfect Lie superalgebra.
