$W$-algebras are certain algebraic structures associated to a finite dimensional Lie algebra $\mathfrak g$ and a nilpotent element $f$ via Hamiltonian reduction. In this note we give a review of a recent approach to the study of (classical affine and quantum finite) $W$-algebras based on the notion of Lax type operators. For a finite dimensional representation of $\mathfrak g$ a Lax type operator for $W$-algebras is constructed using the theory of generalized quasideterminants. This operator carries several pieces of information about the structure and properties of the $W$-algebras and shows the deep connection of the theory of $W$-algebras with Yangians and integrable Hamiltonian hierarchies of Lax type equations.
The Lax type integrability of a two-component polynomial Burgers type dynamical system within a differential-algebraic approach is studied, its linear adjoint matrix Lax representation is constructed. A related recursion operator and infnite hierarchy of Lax integrable nonlinear dynamical systems of the Burgers-Korteweg-de Vries type are derived by means of the gradient-holonomic technique, the corresponding Lax type representations are presented.
A Lax operator algebra is constructed for an arbitrary semi-simple Lie algebra over $\mathbb C$ equipped with a $\mathbb Z$-grading, and arbitrary compact Riemann surface with marked points. In this set-up, a treatment of almost graded structures, and classification of the central extensions of Lax operator algebras are given. A relation to the earlier approach based on the Tyurin parameters is established.
We define a Lax operator as a monic pseudodifferential operator $L(\partial)$ of order $N\geq 1$, such that the Lax equations $\dfrac{\partial L(\partial)}{\partial t_k}=[(L^{\frac kN}(\partial))_+,L(\partial)]$ are consistent and non-zero for infinitely many positive integers $k$. Consistency of an equation means that its flow is defined by an evolutionary vector field. In the present paper we demonstrate that the traditional theory of the KP and the $N$-th KdV hierarchies holds for arbitrary scalar Lax operators.
We consider Fredholm determinants of matrix convolution operators associated to matrix versions of the $n - $th Airy functions. Using the theory of integrable operators, we relate them to a fully noncommutative Painlevé II hierarchy, defined through a matrix valued version of the Lenard operators. In particular, the Riemann-Hilbert technique used to study these integrable operators allows to find a Lax pair for each member of the hierarchy. Finally, the coefficients of the Lax matrices are explicitely written in terms of these matrix valued Lenard operators and some solution of the hierarchy a…
We consider non-ultra local linear Poisson algebras on a continuous line . Suitable combinations of representations of these algebras yield representations of novel generalized linear Poisson algebras or "boundary" extensions. They are parametrized by a "boundary" scalar matrix and depend in addition on the choice of an anti-automorphism. The new algebras are the classical-linear counterparts of known quadratic quantum boundary algebras. For any choice of parameters the non-ultra local contribution of the original Poisson algebra disappears. We also systematically construct the associated clas…
The S-matrices corresponding to PT-symmetric ρ-perturbed operators are defined and calculated by means of an approach based on an operator-theoretical interpretation of the Lax-Phillips scattering theory.
Following Shastry and Sutherland I construct the super Lax operators for the Calogero model in the oscillator potential. These operators can be used for the derivation of the eigenfunctions and integrals of motion of the Calogero model and its supersymmetric version. They allow to infer several relations involving the Lax matrices for this model in a fast way. It is shown that the super Lax operators for the Calogero and Sutherland models can be expressed in terms of the supercharges and so called local Dunkl operators constructed in our recent paper with M. Ioffe. Several important relations …
We consider the theory of Lax equations in complex simple and reductive classical Lie algebras with the spectral parameter on a Riemann surface of finite genus. Our approach is based on the new objects -- the Lax operator algebras, and develops the approach of I.Krichever treating the $\gl(n)$ case. For every Lax operator considered as the mapping sending a point of the cotangent bundle on the space of extended Tyrin data to an element of the corresponding Lax operator algebra we construct the hierarchy of mutually commuting flows given by Lax equations and prove that those are Hamiltonian wit…
We derive the Lax connection of the free fermion model on a lattice starting from the fermionic formulation of Bazhanov-Stroganov's three-parameter elliptic parametrization for the R-operator. It results in the Yang-Baxter and decorated Yang-Baxter equations of difference type in one of the spectral parameters, which is the most suitable form to obtain any relativistic model of free fermions in the continuous limit.
Two universal spectral parameter-dependent Lax operators are presented in terms of the elements of the Drinfeld double $D(D_3)$ of the dihedral group $D_3$. Applying representations of $D(D_3)$ to these yields matrix solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation with spectral parameter.
We generalize the classical study of (generalized) Lax pairs and the related $O$-operators and the (modified) classical Yang-Baxter equation by introducing the concepts of nonabelian generalized Lax pairs, extended $\calo$-operators and the extended classical Yang-Baxter equation. We study in this context the nonabelian generalized $r$-matrix ansatz and the related double Lie algebra structures. Relationship between extended $O$-operators and the extended classical Yang-Baxter equation is established, especially for self-dual Lie algebras. This relationship allows us to obtain explicit descrip…
Generalized PT-symmetric operators acting an a Hilbert space $\mathfrak{H}$ are defined and investigated. The case of PT-symmetric extensions of a symmetric operator $S$ is investigated in detail. The possible application of the Lax-Phillips scattering methods to the investigation of PT-symmetric operators is illustrated by considering the case of 0-perturbed operators.
Given a Lax system of equations with the spectral parameter on a Riemann surface we construct a projective unitary representation of the Lie algebra of Hamiltonian vector fields by Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov operators. This provides a prequantization of the Lax system. The representation operators of Poisson commuting Hamiltonians of the Lax system projectively commute. If Hamiltonians depend only on action variables then the corresponding operators commute.
We study integrable hierarchies associated with spectral problems of the form $Pψ=λQψ$ where $P,Q$ are difference operators. The corresponding nonlinear differential-difference equations can be viewed as inhomogeneous generalizations of the Bogoyavlensky type lattices. While the latter turn into the Korteweg--de Vries equation under the continuous limit, the lattices under consideration provide discrete analogs of the Sawada--Kotera and Kaup--Kupershmidt equations. The $r$-matrix formulation and several simplest explicit solutions are presented.
We show that evolutionary Hirota type Euler-Lagrange equations in (2+1) dimensions have a symplectic Monge-Ampère form. We consider integrable equations of this type in the sense that they admit infinitely many hydrodynamic reductions and determine Lax pairs for them. For two seven-parameter families of integrable equations converted to two-component form we have constructed Lagrangians, recursion operators and bi-Hamiltonian representations. We have also presented a six-parameter family of tri-Hamiltonian systems.
A new class of infinite-dimensional Lie algebras given a name of Lax operator algebras, and the related unifying approach to finite-dimensional integrable systems with spectral parameter on a Riemann surface, such as Calogero--Moser and Hitchin systems, are presented. In particular, our approach includes (the non-twisted) Kac--Moody algebras and integrable systems with rational spectral parameter. The presentation is based on the quite simple ideas related to gradings of semisimple Lie algebras, and their interaction with the Riemann--Roch theorem. The basic properties of the Lax operator alge…
The Hamiltonian representation for the hierarchy of Lax-type flows on a dual space to the Lie algebra of shift operators coupled with suitable eigenfunctions and adjoint eigenfunctions evolutions of associated spectral problems is found by means of a specially constructed Backlund transformation. The Hamiltonian description for the corresponding set of squared eigenfunction symmetry hierarchies is represented. The relation of these hierarchies with Lax integrable (2+1)-dimensional differential-difference systems and their triple Lax-type linearizations is analysed. The existence problem of a H…
Given a classical $r$-matrix on a Poisson algebra, we show how to construct a natural family of compatible Poisson structures for the Hamiltonian formulation of Lax equations. Examples for which our formalism applies include the Benny hierachy, the dispersionless Toda lattice hierachy, the dispersionless KP and modified KP hierachies, the dispersionless Dym hierachy etc.
Recently, Lax operator algebras appeared as a new class of higher genus current type algebras. Based on I.Krichever's theory of Lax operators on algebraic curves they were introduced by I. Krichever and O. Sheinman. These algebras are almost-graded Lie algebras of currents on Riemann surfaces with marked points (in-points, out-points, and Tyurin points). In a previous joint article of the author with Sheinman the local cocycles and associated almost-graded central extensions are classified in the case of one in-point and one out-point. It was shown that the almost-graded extension is essential…
It is explained how the time evolution of the operadic variables may be introduced by using the operadic Lax equation. The operadic Lax representations for the harmonic oscillator are constructed in 3-dimensional binary anti-commutative algebras. As an example, an operadic Lax representation for the harmonic oscillator in the Lie algebra sl(2) is constructed.
The Calogero type matrix discretization scheme is applied to constructing the Lax type integrable discretizations of one wide enough class of nonlinear integrable dynamical systems on functional manifolds. Their Lie-algebraic structure and complete integrability related with co-adjoint orbits on the Markov co-algebras is discussed. It is shown that a set of conservation laws and the associated Poisson structure ensue as a byproduct of the approach devised. Based on the Lie algebras quasi-representation property the limiting procedure of finding the nonlinear dynamical systems on the correspond…
For a reductive Lie algebra g, its nilpotent element f and its faithful finite dimensional representation, we construct a Lax operator L(z) with coefficients in the quantum finite W-algebra W(g,f). We show that for the classical linear Lie algebras gl_N, sl_N, so_N and sp_N, the operator L(z) satisfies a generalized Yangian identity. The operator L(z) is a quantum finite analogue of the operator of generalized Adler type which we recently introduced in the classical affine setup. As in the latter case, L(z) is obtained as a generalized quasideterminant.
We construct a family of $GL_n$ rational and trigonometric Lax matrices $T_D(z)$ parametrized by $Λ^+$-valued divisors $D$ on $\mathbb{P}^1$. To this end, we study the shifted Drinfeld Yangians $Y_μ(\mathfrak{gl}_n)$ and quantum affine algebras $U_{μ^+,μ^-}(L\mathfrak{gl}_n)$, which slightly generalize their $\mathfrak{sl}_n$-counterparts. Our key observation is that both algebras admit the RTT type realization when $μ$ (respectively, $μ^+$ and $μ^-$) are antidominant coweights. We prove that $T_D(z)$ are polynomial in $z$ (up to a rational factor) and obtain explicit simple formulas for those…
We derive the $2$d Zakharov-Mikhailov action from $4$d Chern-Simons theory. This $2$d action is known to produce as equations of motion the flatness condition of a large class of Lax connections of Zakharov-Shabat type, which includes an ultralocal variant of the principal chiral model as a special case. At the $2$d level, we determine for the first time the covariant Poisson bracket $r$-matrix structure of the Zakharov-Shabat Lax connection, which is of rational type. The flatness condition is then derived as a covariant Hamilton equation. We obtain a remarkable formula for the covariant Hami…
We establish a direct link between Dunkl operators and quantum Lax matrices $\mathcal L$ for the Calogero--Moser systems associated to an arbitrary Weyl group $W$ (or an arbitrary finite reflection group in the rational case). This interpretation also provides a companion matrix $\mathcal A$ so that $\mathcal L, \mathcal A$ form a quantum Lax pair. Moreover, such an $\mathcal A$ can be associated to any of the higher commuting quantum Hamiltonians of the system, so we obtain a family of quantum Lax pairs. These Lax pairs can be of various sizes, matching the sizes of orbits in the reflection r…
Lax operator algebras constitute a new class of infinite dimensional Lie algebras of geometric origin. More precisely, they are algebras of matrices whose entries are meromorphic functions on a compact Riemann surface. They generalize classical current algebras and current algebras of Krichever-Novikov type. Lax operators for $\gl(n)$, with the spectral parameter on a Riemann surface, were introduced by Krichever. In joint works of Krichever and Sheinman their algebraic structure was revealed and extended to more general groups. These algebras are almost-graded. In this article their definitio…
Links of factorization theory, supersymmetry and Darboux transformations as isospectral deformations are considered in the context of quantum theory. The infinite chain equations for factorizing operators for a spectral problem are derived. A closure of the chain defines a symmetry of the system. Examples of matrix-differential operators of Pauli and Dirac type are analyzed.
We find a new $4\times4$ solution to the $osp_q(1|2)$-invariant Yang-Baxter equation with simple dependence on the spectral parameter and propose $2\times 2$ matrix expressions for the corresponding Lax operator. The general inhomogeneous universal spectral-parameter dependent $R$-matrix is derived. It is proven, that there are two independent solutions to the homogeneous $osp_q(1|2)$-invariant YBE, defined on the fundamental three dimensional representations. One of them is the particular case of the universal matrix, while the second one does not admit generalization to the higher dimensiona…
Calogero-Moser models can be generalised for all of the finite reflection groups. These include models based on non-crystallographic root systems, that is the root systems of the finite reflection groups, H_3, H_4, and the dihedral group I_2(m), besides the well-known ones based on crystallographic root systems, namely those associated with Lie algebras. Universal Lax pair operators for all of the generalised Calogero-Moser models and for any choices of the potentials are constructed as linear combinations of the reflection operators. The consistency conditions are reduced to functional equati…
A new Lax pair for the sixth Painlevé equation $P_{VI}$ is constructed in the framework of the loop algebra $\mathfrak{so}(8)[z,z^{-1}]$. The whole affine Weyl group symmetry of $P_{VI}$ is interpreted as gauge transformations of the corresponding linear problem.
Using 4D Chern-Simons (CS) theory with gauge symmetry $G$ having minuscule coweights, we develop a suitable operator basis to deal with the explicit calculation of the Lax operator of integrable spin chain satisfying the RLL equation. Using this basis, we derive the oscillator realisations of the full list of the minuscule L-operators which are classified by the gauge symmetries A$_{N}$, B$_{N}$, C$_{N}$, D$_{N}$, E$_{6}$, E$_{7}$. We also complete missing results regarding the non simply laced $SO_{2N+1}$ and $SP_{2N}$ gauge symmetries and comment on their intrinsic features. Moreover, we inv…
The work is devoted to constructing a wide class of differential-functional dynamical systems, whose rich algebraic structure makes their integrability analytically effective. In particular, there is analyzed in detail the operator Lax type equations for factorized seed elements, there is proved an important theorem about their operator factorization and the related analytical solution scheme to the corresponding nonlinear differential-functional dynamical systems.
A regular approach to studying the Lax type integrability of the AKNS hierarchy of nonlinear Lax type integrable dynamical systems in the vertex operator representation is devised. The relationship with the Lie-algebraic integrability scheme is analyzed, the connection with the tau-function representation is briefly discussed.
Polynomials in differentiation operators are considered. The Darboux transformations covariance determines non-Abelian entries to form the coefficients of the polynomials. Joint covariance of a pair of such polynomials (Lax pair) as a function of one-field is studied. Methodically, the transforms of the coefficients are equalized to Frechet derivatives (first term of the Taylor series on prolonged space) to establish the operator forms. In the commutative (Abelian) case that results in binary Bell (Faa de Bruno) differential polynomials having natural bilinear representation. The example of ge…
We present a family of novel Lax operators corresponding to representations of the RTT-realisation of the Yangian associated with $D$-type Lie algebras. These Lax operators are of oscillator type, i.e. one space of the operators is infinite-dimensional while the other is in the first fundamental representation of $\mathfrak{so}(2r)$. We use the isomorphism between the first fundamental representation of $D_3$ and the $\mathbf{6}$ of $A_3$, for which the degenerate oscillator type Lax matrices are known, to derive the Lax operators for $r=3$. The results are used to generalise the Lax matrices …
Rational Lax hierarchies introduced by Krichever are generalized. A systematic construction of infinite multi-Hamiltonian hierarchies and related conserved quantities is presented. The method is based on the classical R-matrix approach applied to Poisson algebras. A proof, that Poisson operators constructed near different points of Laurent expansion of Lax functions are equal, is given. All results are illustrated by several examples.
We propose a method for constructing the Lax connection of two-dimensional relativistic integrable sigma models on coset spaces by means of exponentiation of a suitable operator. We derive a simple quadratic relation that this operator must satisfy for an entire one-parameter family of connections to be flat.
A differential-algebraic approach to studying the Lax type integrability of the generalized Riemann type hydrodynamic hierarchy is revisited, its new Lax type representation and Poisson structures constructed in exact form. The related bi-Hamiltonian integrability and compatible Poissonian structures of the generalized Riemann type hierarchy are also discussed.
Let $M$ denote a finite volume, non-compact Riemann surface without elliptic points, and let $B$ denote the Lax-Phillips scattering operator. Using the superzeta function approach due to Voros, we define a Hurwitz-type zeta function $ζ^{\pm}_{B}(s,z)$ constructed from the resonances associated to $zI -[ (1/2)I \pm B]$. We prove the meromorphic continuation in $s$ of $ζ^{\pm}_{B}(s,z)$ and, using the special value at $s=0$, define a determinant of the operators $zI -[ (1/2)I \pm B]$. We obtain expressions for Selberg's zeta function and the determinant of the scattering matrix in terms of the o…

A differential-algebraic approach to studying the Lax type integrability of the generalized Riemann type hydrodynamic equations at N = 3; 4 is devised. The approach is also applied to studying the Lax type integrability of the well known Korteweg-de Vries dynamical system.
We present (2+1)-dimensional generalizations of the k-constrained Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (k-cKP) hierarchy and corresponding matrix Lax representations that consist of two integro-differential operators. Additional reductions imposed on the Lax pairs lead to matrix generalizations of Davey-Stewartson systems (DS-I,DS-II,DS-III) and (2+1)-dimensional extensions of the modified Korteweg-de Vries and the Nizhnik equation. We also present an integro-differential Lax pair for a matrix version of a (2+1)-dimensional extension of the Chen-Lee-Liu equation.
Calogero-Moser models and Toda models are well-known integrable multi-particle dynamical systems based on root systems associated with Lie algebras. The relation between these two types of integrable models is investigated at the levels of the Hamiltonians and the Lax pairs. The Lax pairs of Calogero-Moser models are specified by the representations of the reflection groups, which are not the same as those of the corresponding Lie algebras. The latter specify the Lax pairs of Toda models. The Hamiltonians of the elliptic Calogero-Moser models tend to those of Toda models as one of the periods …
We formulate an analog of Inverse Scattering Method for integrable systems on noncommutative associative algebras. In particular we define Hamilton flows, Casimir elements and noncommutative analog of the Lax matrix. The noncommutative Lax element generates infinite family of commuting Hamilton flows on an associative algebra. The proposed approach to integrable systems on associative algebras satisfy certain universal property, in particular it incorporates both classical and quantum integrable systems as well as provides a basis for further generalization. We motivate our definition by expli…
In this paper a list of $R$-matrices on a certain coupled Lie algebra is obtained. With one of these $R$-matrices, we construct infinitely many bi-Hamiltonian structures for each of the two-component BKP and the Toda lattice hierarchies. We also show that, when such two hierarchies are reduced to their subhierarchies, these bi-Hamiltonian structures are reduced correspondingly.
In this paper we study the covering vertex model of the one-dimensional Hubbard Hamiltonian constructed by Shastry in the realm of algebraic geometry. We show that the Lax operator sits in a genus one curve which is not isomorphic but only isogenous to the curve suitable for the AdS/CFT context. We provide an uniformization of the Lax operator in terms of ratios of theta functions allowing us to establish relativistic like properties such as crossing and unitarity. We show that the respective $\mathrm{R}$-matrix weights lie on an Abelian surface being birational to the product of two elliptic …
We consider (3+1)-dimensional second-order evolutionary PDEs where the unknown $u$ enters only in the form of the 2nd-order partial derivatives. For such equations which possess a Lagrangian, we show that all of them have a symplectic Monge--Ampère form and determine their Lagrangians. We develop a calculus for transforming the symmetry condition to a "skew-factorized" form from which we immediately extract Lax pairs and recursion relations for symmetries, thus showing that all such equations are integrable in the traditional sense. We convert these equations together with their Lagrangians to…
We establish the algebraic origin of the following observations made previously by the authors and coworkers: (i) A given integrable PDE in $1+1$ dimensions within the Zakharov-Shabat scheme related to a Lax pair can be cast in two distinct, dual Hamiltonian formulations; (ii) Associated to each formulation is a Poisson bracket and a phase space (which are not compatible in the sense of Magri); (iii) Each matrix in the Lax pair satisfies a linear Poisson algebra a la Sklyanin characterized by the {\it same} classical $r$ matrix. We develop the general concept of dual Lax pairs and dual Hamilto…
Surprising links between the deformation of 2D quantum field theories induced by the composite $\textrm{T} \bar{\textrm{T}}$ operator, effective string models and the $AdS/$CFT correspondence, have recently emerged. The purpose of this article is to discuss various classical aspects related to the deformation of 2D interacting field theories. Special attention is given to the sin(h)-Gordon model, for which we were able to construct the $\textrm{T} \bar{\textrm{T}}$-deformed Lax pair. We consider the Lax pair formulation to be the first essential step toward a more satisfactory geometrical inte…
We consider a version of the non-linear Schrödinger equation with M bosons and N fermions. We first solve the classical and quantum versions of this equation, using a super-Zamolodchikov-Faddeev (ZF) algebra. Then we prove that the hierarchy associated to this model admits a super-Yangian Y(gl(M|N)) symmetry. We exhibit the corresponding (classical and quantum) Lax pairs. Finally, we construct explicitly the super-Yangian generators, in terms of the canonical fields on the one hand, and in terms of the ZF algebra generators on the other hand. The latter construction uses the well-bred operator…
