We consider non-ultra local linear Poisson algebras on a continuous line . Suitable combinations of representations of these algebras yield representations of novel generalized linear Poisson algebras or "boundary" extensions. They are parametrized by a "boundary" scalar matrix and depend in addition on the choice of an anti-automorphism. The new algebras are the classical-linear counterparts of known quadratic quantum boundary algebras. For any choice of parameters the non-ultra local contribution of the original Poisson algebra disappears. We also systematically construct the associated classical Lax pair. The classical boundary PCM model is examined as a physical example.
We derive the $2$d Zakharov-Mikhailov action from $4$d Chern-Simons theory. This $2$d action is known to produce as equations of motion the flatness condition of a large class of Lax connections of Zakharov-Shabat type, which includes an ultralocal variant of the principal chiral model as a special case. At the $2$d level, we determine for the first time the covariant Poisson bracket $r$-matrix structure of the Zakharov-Shabat Lax connection, which is of rational type. The flatness condition is then derived as a covariant Hamilton equation. We obtain a remarkable formula for the covariant Hami…
A construction of multidimensional parametric Yang-Baxter maps is presented. The corresponding Lax matrices are the symplectic leaves of first degree matrix polynomials equipped with the Sklyanin bracket. These maps are symplectic with respect to the reduced symplectic structure on these leaves and provide examples of integrable mappings. An interesting family of quadrirational symplectic YB maps on $\mathbb{C}^4 \times \mathbb{C}^4$ with $3\times 3$ Lax matrices is also presented.
We establish the algebraic origin of the following observations made previously by the authors and coworkers: (i) A given integrable PDE in $1+1$ dimensions within the Zakharov-Shabat scheme related to a Lax pair can be cast in two distinct, dual Hamiltonian formulations; (ii) Associated to each formulation is a Poisson bracket and a phase space (which are not compatible in the sense of Magri); (iii) Each matrix in the Lax pair satisfies a linear Poisson algebra a la Sklyanin characterized by the {\it same} classical $r$ matrix. We develop the general concept of dual Lax pairs and dual Hamilto…
In the paper Lax pairs for linear Hamiltonian systems of differential equations are constructed. In particular, Gröbner bases are used for the computations. It is proved that the maps which appear in the construction of Lax pairs are Poisson. Various properties of first integrals of the system which are obtained from the Lax pairs are investigated.
We define and illustrate the novel notion of dual integrable hierarchies, on the example of the nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) hierarchy. For each integrable nonlinear evolution equation (NLEE) in the hierarchy, dual integrable structures are characterized by the fact that the zero-curvature representation of the NLEE can be realized by two Hamiltonian formulations stemming from two distinct choices of the configuration space, yielding two inequivalent Poisson structures on the corresponding phase space and two distinct Hamiltonians. This is fundamentally different from the standard bi-Hamiltonia…

We bring together aspects of covariant Hamiltonian field theory and of classical integrable field theories in $1+1$ dimensions. Specifically, our main result is to obtain for the first time the classical $r$-matrix structure within a covariant Poisson bracket for the Lax connection, or Lax one form. This exhibits a certain covariant nature of the classical $r$-matrix with respect to the underlying spacetime variables. The main result is established by means of several prototypical examples of integrable field theories, all equipped with a Zakharov-Shabat type Lax pair. Full details are present…
We reconcile the Hamiltonian formalism and the zero curvature representation in the approach to integrable boundary conditions for a classical integrable system in 1+1 space-time dimensions. We start from an ultralocal Poisson algebra involving a Lax matrix and two (dynamical) boundary matrices. Sklyanin's formula for the double-row transfer matrix is used to derive Hamilton's equations of motion for both the Lax matrix {\bf and} the boundary matrices in the form of zero curvature equations. A key ingredient of the method is a boundary version of the Semenov-Tian-Shansky formula for the genera…
A systematic approach to Liouville integrable defects is proposed, based on an underlying Poisson algebraic structure. The non-linear Schrodinger model in the presence of a single particle-like defect is investigated through this algebraic approach. Local integrals of motions are constructed as well as the time components of the corresponding Lax pairs. Continuity conditions imposed upon the time components of the Lax pair to all orders give rise to sewing conditions, which turn out to be compatible with the hierarchy of charges in involution. Coincidence of our results with the continuum limi…
The all-loop anisotropic Thirring model interpolates between the WZW model and the non-Abelian T-dual of the anisotropic principal chiral model. We focus on the SU(2) case and we prove that it is classically integrable by providing its Lax pair formulation. We derive its underlying symmetry current algebra and use it to show that the Poisson brackets of the spatial part of the Lax pair, assume the Maillet form. In this way we procure the corresponding r and s matrices which provide non-trivial solutions to the modified Yang-Baxter equation.
We formulate an analog of Inverse Scattering Method for integrable systems on noncommutative associative algebras. In particular we define Hamilton flows, Casimir elements and noncommutative analog of the Lax matrix. The noncommutative Lax element generates infinite family of commuting Hamilton flows on an associative algebra. The proposed approach to integrable systems on associative algebras satisfy certain universal property, in particular it incorporates both classical and quantum integrable systems as well as provides a basis for further generalization. We motivate our definition by expli…
A common approach to the quantization of integrable models starts with the formal substitution of the Yang-Baxter Poisson algebra with its quantum version. However it is difficult to discern the presence of such an algebra for the so-called non-ultralocal models. The latter includes the class of non-linear sigma models which are most interesting from the point of view of applications. In this work, we investigate the emergence of the Yang-Baxter Poisson algebra in a non-ultralocal system which is related to integrable deformations of the Principal Chiral Field.
We discuss a non-Hamiltonian vector field appearing in consideration of a partial motion of the Chaplygin ball rolling on a horizontal plane which rotates with constant angular velocity. In two partial cases this vector field is expressed via Hamiltonian vector fields using a non-algebraic deformation of the canonical Poisson bivector on e^*(3). For the symmetric ball we also calculate variables of separation, compatible Poisson brackets, algebra of Haantjes operators and 2x2 Lax matrices.
We discuss the Poisson structures, Lax matrices, $r$-matrices, bi-hamiltonian structures, the variables of separation and other attributes of the modern theory of dynamical systems in application to the integrable Euler top and to the nonholonomic Chaplygin ball.
We study integrable geodesic flows on Stiefel varieties $V_{n,r}=SO(n)/SO(n-r)$ given by the Euclidean, normal (standard), Manakov-type, and Einstein metrics. We also consider natural generalizations of the Neumann systems on $V_{n,r}$ with the above metrics and proves their integrability in the non-commutative sense by presenting compatible Poisson brackets on $(T^*V_{n,r})/SO(r)$. Various reductions of the latter systems are described, in particular, the generalized Neumann system on an oriented Grassmannian $G_{n,r}$ and on a sphere $S^{n-1}$ in presence of Yang-Mills fields or a magnetic m…
We apply the new method for constructing integrable Hamiltonian hierarchies of Lax type equations developed in our previous paper, to show that all W-algebras W(gl_N,f) carry such a hierarchy. As an application, we show that all vector constrained KP hierarchies and their matrix generalizations are obtained from these hierarchies by Dirac reduction, which provides the former with a bi-Poisson structure.
