We show how to make the additive Chow groups of Bloch-Esnault, Ruelling and Park into a graded module for Bloch's higher Chow groups, in the case of a smooth projective variety over a field. This yields a a projective bundle formula as well as a blow-up formula for the additive Chow groups of a smooth projective variety.
In case the base-field admits resolution of singularieties, these properties allow us to apply the technique of Guille'n and Navarro Aznar to define the additive Chow groups "with log poles at infinity" for an arbitrary finite-type k-scheme X. This theory has the usual properties of a Borel-Moore theory on finite type k-schemes: it is covariantly functorial for projective morphisms, contravariantly functorial for morphisms of smooth schemes, and has a projective bundle formula, homotopy property, Mayer-Vietoris and localization sequences.
Finally, we show that the regulator map defined by Park from the additive Chow groups of 1-cycles to the modules of absolute Kaehler differentials of an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero is surjective, giving an evidence of conjectured isomorphism between these two groups.
We prove moving lemma for additive higher Chow groups of smooth projective varieties. As applications, we prove the very general contravariance property of additive higher Chow groups. Using the moving lemma, we establish the structure of graded-commutative differential graded algebra (CDGA) on these groups.
Over a field of characteristic zero, we introduce two motivic operations on additive higher Chow cycles: analogues of the Connes boundary $B$ operator and the shuffle product on Hochschild complexes. The former allows us to apply the formalism of mixed complexes to additive Chow complexes building a bridge between additive higher Chow theory and additive $K$-theory. The latter induces a wedge product on additive Chow groups for which we show that the Connes operator is a graded derivation for the wedge product using a variation of a Totaro's cycle. Hence, the additive higher Chow groups with t…
We show that the multivariate additive higher Chow groups of a smooth affine $k$-scheme $\Spec (R)$ essentially of finite type over a perfect field $k$ of characteristic $\not = 2$ form a differential graded module over the big de Rham-Witt complex $\W_mΩ^{\bullet}_{R}$. In the univariate case, we show that additive higher Chow groups of $\Spec (R)$ form a Witt-complex over $R$. We use these structures to prove an étale descent for multivariate additive higher Chow groups.
As an attempt to understand motives over $k[x]/(x^m)$, we define the cubical additive higher Chow groups with modulus for all dimensions extending the works of S. Bloch, H. Esnault and K. Rülling on 0-dimensional cycles. We give an explicit construction of regulator maps on the groups of 1-cycles with an aid of the residue theory of A. Parshin and V. Lomadze.
We begin a study of the intersection theory of the moduli spaces of degree two stable maps from two-pointed rational curves to arbitrary-dimensional projective space. First we compute the Betti numbers of these spaces using Serre polynomial and equivariant Serre polynomial methods developed by E. Getzler and R. Pandharipande. Then, via the excision sequence, we compute an additive basis for their Chow rings in terms of Chow rings of nonlinear Grassmannians, which have been described by Pandharipande. The ring structure of one of these Chow rings is addressed in a sequel to this paper.
The additive invariants of an algebraic variety is calculated in terms of those of the fixed point set under the action of additive and multiplicative groups, by using Bialynicki-Birula's fixed point formula for a projective algebraicset with a G_m-action or G_a-action. The method is also generalized to calculate certain additive invariants for Chow varieties. As applications, we obtain the Hodge polynomial of Chow varieties in characteristic zero and the number of points for Chow varieties over finite fields. As applications, we obtain the l-adic Euler-Poincare characteristic for the Chow var…
The cosimplicial scheme $$Delta^bullet = Δ^0 smallmatrix \to smallmatrix Δ^1 smallmatrix to smallmatrix ...;\quad Δ^n :=\Spec\Big(k[t_0,...c,t_n]/(\sum t_i -t)\Big)$$ was used in B to define higher Chow groups. In this note, we let t tend to 0 and replace Δ^\bullet by a degenerate version $$Q^\bullet = Q^0 smallmatrix to smallmatrix Q^1 smallmatrix to smallmatrix ...;\quad Q^n := \Spec\Big(k[t_0,...c,t_n]/(\sum t_i)\Big) $$ to define an additive version of the higher Chow groups. For a field k, we show the Chow group of 0-cycles on $Q^n$ in this theory is isomorphic to the absolute $(n-1)$-Käh…
In this paper we calculate the ring of unstable (possibly non-additive) operations from algebraic Morava K-theory K(n) to Chow groups with $\mathbb{Z}_{(p)}$-coefficients. More precisely, we prove that it is a formal power series ring on generators $c_i:K(n)\rightarrow CH^i \otimes \mathbb{Z}_{(p)}$, which satisfy a Cartan-type formula.
It is an open conjecture of Orlov that the bounded derived category of coherent sheaves of a smooth projective variety determines its Chow motive with rational coefficients. In this master's thesis we introduce a category of \emph{perfect correspondences}, whose objects are smooth projective varieties and morphisms $X \to Y$ are perfect complexes on $X \times Y$. We show that isomorphism in this category is the same as equivalence of derived categories, and use this to show that the derived category determines the noncommutative Chow motive (in the sense of Tabuada) and, up to Tate twists, the…
Bloch and Esnault defined additive higher Chow groups with modulus (m+1) on the level of zero cycles over a field k, denoted by TH^n(k,n;m), n,m >0. They prove that TH^n(k,n;1) is isomorphic to the group of absolute Kaehler differentials of degree n-1 over k. In this paper we generalize their result and show that TH^n(k,n;m) is isomorphic to W_mΩ^{n-1}_k, the group of degree n-1 elements in the generalized de Rham-Witt of length m over k. This complex was defined by Hesselholt and Madsen and generalizes the p-typical de Rham-Witt complex of Bloch-Deligne-Illusie. Before we can prove this theor…
Based on Balmer's tensor triangular Chow group, we propose K-theoretic Chow groups of derived categories of noetherian schemes and their Milnor variants for regular schemes and their thickenings. We discuss functoriality and show that our Chow groups agree with the classical ones for regular schemes. Moreover, we also define tangent spaces to our Chow groups as usually and identify them with cohomology groups of differentials. As an application, we extend Bloch-Quillen identification and soule's variant from regular schemes to their thickenings. This gives a positive answer to a question by Gr…
The higher Chow group with modulus was introduced by Binda-Saito as a common generalization of Bloch's higher Chow group and the additive higher Chow group. In this paper, we study invariance properties of the higher Chow group with modulus. First, we formulate and prove "cube invariance," which generalizes $\mathbb{A}^1$-homotopy invariance of Bloch's higher Chow group. Next, we introduce the nilpotent higher Chow group with modulus, as an analogue of the nilpotent algebraic $K$-group, and define a module structure on it over the big Witt ring of the base field. We deduce from the module stru…
We show that the higher Chow groups with modulus of Binda-Kerz-Saito for a smooth quasi-projective scheme $X$ is a module over the Chow ring of $X$. From this, we deduce certain pull-backs, the projective bundle formula, and the blow-up formula for higher Chow groups with modulus. We prove vanishing of $0$-cycles of higher Chow groups with modulus on various affine varieties of dimension at least two. This shows in particular that the multivariate analogue of Bloch-Esnault--Rülling computations of additive higher Chow groups of 0-cycles vanishes.
We study $T$-linear schemes, a class of objects that includes spherical and Schubert varieties. We provide a localization theorem for the equivariant Chow cohomology of these schemes that does not depend on resolution of singularities. Furthermore, we give an explicit presentation of the equivariant Chow cohomology of possibly singular complete spherical varieties admitting a smooth equivariant envelope (e.g. group embeddings).
Let X be a smooth projective toric surface, and H^d(X) the Hilbert scheme parametrising the length d zero-dimensional subschemes of X. We compute the rational Chow ring A^*(H^d(X))\_Q. More precisely, if T is the two-dimensional torus contained in X, we compute the rational equivariant Chow ring A\_T^*(H^d(X))\_Q and the usual Chow ring is an explicit quotient of the equivariant Chow ring. The case of some quasi-projective toric surfaces such as the affine plane are described by our method too.
The main goal of this paper is to define the so-called Chow weight structure for the category of Beilinson motives over any 'reasonable' base scheme $S$ (this is the version of Voevodsky's motives over $S$ defined by Cisinski and Deglise). We also study the functoriality properties of the Chow weight structure (they are very similar to the well-known functoriality of weights for mixed complexes of sheaves). As shown in a preceding paper, the Chow weight structure automatically yields an exact conservative weight complex functor (with values in $K^b(Chow(S))$). Here $Chow(S)$ is the heart of th…
Let H(d) be the (open) Hilbert scheme of rational normal curves of degree d in P^d. A presentation of the integral Chow ring of H(d) is given via equivariant Chow ring computations. Included also in the paper are algebraic computations of the integral equivariant Chow rings of the algebraic groups O(n), SO(2k+1). The results for S0(3)=PGL(2) are needed for the Hilbert scheme calculation.
The purpose of this paper is to prove an equivariant Riemann-Roch theorem for schemes or algebraic spaces with an action of a linear algebraic group $G$. For a $G$-space $X$, this theorem gives an isomorphism between a completion of the equivariant Grothendieck group and a completion of equivariant equivariant Chow groups. The key to proving this isomorphism is a geometric description of completions of the equivariant Grothendieck group. Besides Riemann-Roch, this result has some purely $K$-theoretic applications. In particular, we prove a conjecture of Köck (in the case of regular schemes) an…
For a quasi-projective smooth scheme X of pure dimension d over a field k and an effective Cartier divisor D on X whose support is a simple normal crossing divisor, we construct a cycle class map from the Chow group of zero-cycles with modulus to the top cohomology of the dth relative Milnor K-sheaf.
In this note we are going to understand two questions. One is the fiber of the natural map from a projective algebraic group $G$ to $G/Γ$, where $Γ$ denotes the $Γ$-equivalence on $G$. The other one is to define a natural map from Hilbert scheme of the generic fiber of a fibration $X\to S$ to the Chow group of relative zero cycles on $X\to S$ and to understand the fibers of this map.
For a perfect field $k$, we construct a triangulated category of mixed motives over $k[t]/{(t^{m+1})}$. The ext groups in this category are given by higher Chow groups, and additive higher Chow groups.
Let $C_{2}$ be a smooth and projective curve over the ring of dual numbers of a field $k.$ Given non-zero rational functions $f,g,$ and $h$ on $C_{2},$ we define an invariant $ρ(f\wedge g \wedge h) \in k.$ This is an analog of the real analytic Chow dilogarithm and the extension to non-linear cycles of the additive dilogarithm. Using this construction we state and prove an infinitesimal version of the strong reciprocity conjecture. Also using $ρ,$ we define an infinitesimal regulator on algebraic cycles of weight two which generalizes Park's construction in the case of cycles with modulus.
We prove a moving lemma which implies the contravariance of Bloch-Esnault's additive higher Chow group in smooth affine varieties and Binda-Saito's higher Chow group (taken in the Nisnevich topology) in smooth varieties equipped with effective Cartier divisors. The new ingredients in the moving method are parallel translation {\em with modulus} in the affine space that involves a new integer parameter, and Noether's normalization lemma over a Dedekind base.
We prove a formula for Chow groups of $Quot$-schemes which resolve degeneracy loci of a map between vector bundles, under expected dimension conditions. This result provides a unified way to understand known formulae for various geometric situations such as blowups, Cayley's trick, projectivizations, Grassmannian bundles, flops from Springer type resolutions, as well as provide new phenomena such as formulae for Grassmannain type flips/flops and virtual flips. We also give applications to blowups of determinantal ideals, moduli spaces of linear series on curves, and Hilbert schemes of points o…
We give a presentation for the (integral) torus-equivariant Chow ring of the quot scheme, a smooth compactification of the space of rational curves of degree d in the Grassmannian. For this presentation, we refine Evain's extension of the method of Goresky, Kottwitz, and MacPherson to express the torus-equivariant Chow ring in terms of the torus-fixed points and explicit relations coming from the geometry of families of torus-invariant curves. As part of this calculation, we give a complete description of the torus-invariant curves on the quot scheme and show that each family is a product of p…
In this paper, the Lawson homology and morphic cohomology are defined on the Chow motives. We also define the rational coefficient Lawson homology and morphic cohomology of the Chow motives of finite quotient projective varieties. As a consequence, we obtain a formula for the Hilbert scheme of points on a smooth complex projective surface. Further discussion concerning generic finite maps is given. As a result, we give examples of self-product of smooth projective curves with nontrivial Griffiths groups by using a result of Ceresa.
We construct an action of the Neron--Severi part of the Looijenga-Lunts-Verbitsky Lie algebra on the Chow ring of the Hilbert scheme of points on a K3 surface. This yields a simplification of Maulik and Negut's proof that the cycle class map is injective on the subring generated by divisor classes as conjectured by Beauville. The key step in the construction is an explicit formula for Lefschetz duals in terms of Nakajima operators. Our results also lead to a formula for the monodromy action on Hilbert schemes in terms of Nakajima operators.
The main result of this note is a hard Lefschetz theorem for the Chow groups of generalized Kummer varieties. The same argument also proves hard Lefschetz for Chow groups of Hilbert schemes of abelian surfaces. As a consequence, we obtain new information about certain pieces of the Chow groups of generalized Kummer varieties, and Hilbert schemes of abelian surfaces. The proofs are based on work of Shen-Vial and Fu-Tian-Vial on multiplicative Chow-Künneth decompositions.
In this article we prove a fundamental inequality between Artin-Mazur heights and Yobuko heights of certain proper log smooth schemes of Cartier type over a fine log scheme whose underlying scheme is the spectrum of a perfect field $κ$ of characteristic $p>0$. We also prove that the cohomologies of Witt-sheaves of them are finitely generated ${\cal W}(κ)$-modules if the Yobuko heights of them are finite. As an application, we prove that the $p$-primary torsion parts of the Chow groups of codimension $2$ of proper smooth threefolds over $κ$ is of finite cotype if the Yobuko heights of them are …
The Chow group of zero cycles in the moduli space of stable pointed curves of genus zero is isomorphic to the integer additive group. Let $M$ be monomial in this Chow group. If no two factors of $M$ fulfill a particular quadratic relation, then the monomial can be represented equivalently by a specific tree; otherwise, $M$ is mapped to zero under the stated isomorphism. Starting from this tree representation, we introduce a graphical algorithm for computing the corresponding integer for $M$ under the aforementioned isomorphism. The algorithm is linear with respect to the size of the tree.
For a smooth quasi-projective scheme $X$ over a field $k$ with an action of a reductive group, we establish a spectral sequence connecting the equivariant and the ordinary higher Chow groups of $X$. For $X$ smooth and projective, we show that this spectral sequence degenerates, leading to an explicit relation between the equivariant and the ordinary higher Chow groups. We obtain several applications to algebraic $K$-theory. We show that for a reductive group $G$ acting on a smooth projective scheme $X$, the forgetful map $K^G_i(X) \to K_i(X)$ induces an isomorphism $K^G_i(X)/{I_G K^G_i(X)} \co…
In this paper, we investigate the question of triviality of the rational Chow groups of complete intersections in projective spaces and obtain improved bounds for this triviality to hold. Along the way, we study the dimension and nonemptiness of some Hilbert schemes of fat $r$-planes contained in a complete intersection $Y$, generalizing well-known results on the Fano varieties of $r$-planes contained in $Y$.
The aim of this note is to announce some results on the GIT problem for the Hilbert and Chow scheme of curves of degree d and genus g in P^{d-g}, whose full details will appear in a subsequent paper. In particular, we extend the previous results of L. Caporaso up to d>4(2g-2) and we observe that this is sharp. In the range 2(2g-2)<d<7/2(2g-2), we get a complete new description of the GIT quotient. As a corollary, we get a new compactification of the universal Jacobian over the moduli space of pseudo-stable curves.
The moduli space $\bar{M}_A$ of weighted pointed stable curves of genus zero is stratified according to the degeneration types of such curves. We show that the homology groups of the moduli space $\bar{M}_A$ are generated by the strata of $\bar{M}_A$ and give all additive relations between them. We also observe that the Chow groups $A_i \bar{M}_A$ and the homology groups $H_{2i} \bar{M}_A$ are isomorphic. This generalizes Kontsevich-Manin's and Losev-Manin's theorems to arbitrary weight data $A$.
It is a fundamental property of the Chow groups of algebraic schemes that they are contra-functorial with respect to flat morphisms between schemes. While the pullback homomorphism is easy to define at the level of algebraic cycles, the crucial step is to show that the pullback of cycles preserves rational equivalence, so that it descends to the Chow groups. The purpose of this note is to give a natural sheaf theoretic proof of the preservation of rational equivalence under flat pullback on cycles.
Let $k$ be a commutative ring and let $R$ be a commutative $k-$algebra. The aim of this paper is to define and discuss some connection morphisms between schemes associated to the representation theory of a (non necessarily commutative) $R-$algebra $A. $ We focus on the scheme $\ran//\GL_n$ of the $n-$dimensional representations of $A, $ on the Hilbert scheme $\Hilb_A^n$ parameterizing the left ideals of codimension $n$ of $A$ and on the affine scheme Spec $Γ_R^n(A)^{ab} $ of the abelianization of the divided powers of order $n$ over $A. $ We give a generalization of the Grothendieck-Deligne no…
Let X be an abelian scheme over a base variety S with endomorphism algebra D. We prove that the relative Chow motive R(X/S) has a canonical decomposition as a direct sum of motives R^(ξ)$ where ξruns over an explicitly determined finite set of irreducible representations of the group D^{opp,*}, such that R^(ξ), seen as a functor from Chow motives to D^{\opp,*}-representations, is ξ-isotypic. Our decomposition refines the motivic decomposition of Deninger and Murre, as well as Beauville's decomposition of the Chow group. The second main result is that we construct a canonical generalized motivi…
We study the structure of various invariants of the symmetric powers of a smooth projective curve in terms of that of the Jacobian of the curve. We generalise the results of Macdonald and Collino to various invariants including the Weil-cohomology theory, the higher Chow groups, the additive higher Chow groups and the rational $K$-groups.
In this paper, we prove a decomposition result for the Chow groups of projectivizations of coherent sheaves of homological dimension $\le 1$. In this process, we establish the decomposition of Chow groups for the cases of Cayley's trick and standard flips. Moreover, we apply these results to study the Chow groups of symmetric powers of curves, nested Hilbert schemes of surfaces, and the varieties resolving Voisin maps for cubic fourfolds.
We prove a moving lemma for higher Chow groups with modulus, in the sense of Binda-Kerz-Saito, of projective schemes when the modulus is given by a very ample divisor. This provides one of the first cases of moving lemmas for cycles with modulus, not covered by the additive higher Chow groups. We apply this to prove a contravariant functoriality of higher Chow groups with modulus. We use our moving techniques to show that the higher Chow groups of a line bundle over a scheme, with the 0-section as the modulus, vanishes.
We describe a refined Chow theory for log schemes extending the theory of b-Chow suggested Holmes Pixton and Schmidt based off of a definition of Shokurov. This produces a dimension graded family of Abelian groups supporting a push-forward and pull-back along proper and log flat morphisms respectively, together with a bivariant theory satisfying Poincare Duality. In the final section we relate this construction to the construction of the log normal cone by Leo Herr.
We introduce the category of finite Chow-Witt correspondences over a perfect field k of characteristic not 2. We then use them to define bigraded generalized motivic cohomology groups of a smooth scheme over k and begin the study of their relationship with ordinary motivic cohomology groups.
For a smooth projective variety $P$, we construct a Cartier divisor supported on the incidence locus in $\mathscr{C}_a (P) \times \mathscr{C}_{\dim(P)-a-1}(P)$. There is a natural definition of the corresponding line bundle on a product of Hilbert schemes, and we show this bundle descends to the Chow varieties. This answers a question posed by Mazur.
A presentation of a degree $d$ form in $n+1$ variables as the sum of homogenous elements ``essentially'' involving $n$ variables is called a {\em codimension one decomposition}. Codimension one decompositions are introduced and the related Waring Problem is stated and solved. Natural schemes describing the codimension one decompositions of a generic form are defined. Dimension and degree formulae for these schemes are derived when the number of summands is the minimal one; in the zero dimensional case the scheme is showed to be reduced. These results are obtained by studying the Chow variety $…
For any algebraic scheme $X$ and every $(n,\mathscr{L})\in \mathbb{Z}\times \text{Pic}(X)$ we define an associated involution of its Chow group $A_*X$, and show that certain characteristic classes of (possibly singular) hypersurfaces in a smooth variety are interchanged via these involutions. For $X=\mathbb{P}^N$ we show that such involutions are induced by involutive correspondences.
We construct a cycle class map from the higher Chow groups of 0-cycles to the relative $K$-theory of a modulus pair. We show that this induces a pro-isomorphism between the additive higher Chow groups of relative 0-cycles and relative $K$-theory of truncated polynomial rings over a regular semi-local ring, essentially of finite type over a characteristic zero field.
The Beauville-Voisin conjecture for a hyperkähler manifold X states that the subring of the Chow ring A^*(X) generated by divisor classes and Chern characters of the tangent bundle injects into the cohomology ring of X. We prove a weak version of this conjecture when X is the Hilbert scheme of points on a K3 surface, for the subring generated by divisor classes and tautological classes. This in particular implies the weak splitting conjecture of Beauville for these geometries. In the process, we extend Lehn's formula and the Li-Qin-Wang W_{1+infinity} algebra action from cohomology to Chow gro…
We introduce in this note the notion of the category of twisted Chow-Witt correspondences $CHW(k)$ over a field $k$ of characteristic different from $2$. Moreover, we show that over an infinite perfect field this category $CHW(k)$ admits a fully faithful embedding into the geometric stable $\A^1$-derived category $D_{\A^1,gm}(k)$ after taking $\Q$-localization. We also prove a conjecture of F. Morel about the rational splitting of stable $\A^1$-cohomology over an essentially smooth scheme $S$ over a field $k$ of $char(k) \neq 2$.
We show that the Chow group of 0-cycles on a singular projective scheme $X$ over a finite field describes the abelian extensions of its function field which are unramified over the regular locus of $X$. As a consequence, we obtain the Bloch-Quillen formula for the Chow group of 0-cycles on such schemes. We deduce simple proofs of results of Kerz-Saito for a class of surfaces without any assumption on ${\rm char}(k)$.
Let $X$ be a hyperkähler variety, and let $G$ be a group of finite order non-symplectic automorphisms of $X$. Beauville's conjectural splitting property predicts that each Chow group of $X$ should split in a finite number of pieces. The Bloch-Beilinson conjectures predict how $G$ should act on these pieces of the Chow groups: certain pieces should be invariant under $G$, while certain other pieces should not contain any non-trivial $G$-invariant cycle. We can prove this for two pieces of the Chow groups when $X$ is the Hilbert scheme of a $K3$ surface and $G$ consists of natural automorphisms.…
