In this note we are going to understand two questions. One is the fiber of the natural map from a projective algebraic group $G$ to $G/Γ$, where $Γ$ denotes the $Γ$-equivalence on $G$. The other one is to define a natural map from Hilbert scheme of the generic fiber of a fibration $X\to S$ to the Chow group of relative zero cycles on $X\to S$ and to understand the fibers of this map.
The aim of this note is to show that the properties like motivic decomposability, Chow theoretic decomposition of the diagonal etc. happens for the special member of a family if it happens for a general member of the family.
Let $X$ be a complex projective surface with arbitrary singularities. We construct a generalized Abel--Jacobi map $A_0(X)\to J^2(X)$ and show that it is an isomorphism on torsion subgroups. Here $A_0(X)$ is the appropriate Chow group of smooth 0-cycles of degree 0 on $X$, and $J^2(X)$ is the intermediate Jacobian associated with the mixed Hodge structure on $H^3(X)$. Our result generalizes a theorem of Roitman for smooth surfaces: if $X$ is smooth then the torsion in the usual Chow group $A_0(X)$ is isomorphic to the torsion in the usual Albanese variety $J^2(X)\cong Alb(X)$ by the classical A…
In this paper we study the integral Chow ring of toric Deligne-Mumford stacks. We prove that the integral Chow ring of a semi-projective toric Deligne-Mumford stack is isomorphic to the Stanley-Reisner ring of the associated stacky fan. The integral orbifold Chow ring is also computed. Our results are illustrated with several examples.
Generalizing toric varieties, we introduce toric Deligne-Mumford stacks which correspond to combinatorial data. The main result in this paper is an explicit calculation of the orbifold Chow ring of a toric Deligne-Mumford stack. As an application, we prove that the orbifold Chow ring of the toric Deligne-Mumford stack associated to a simplicial toric variety is a flat deformation of (but is not necessarily isomorphic to) the Chow ring of a crepant resolution.
Hypertoric varieties are determined by hyperplane arrangements. In this paper, we use stacky hyperplane arrangements to define the notion of hypertoric Deligne-Mumford stacks. Their orbifold Chow rings are computed. As an application, some examples related to crepant resolutions are discussed.
We prove a formula for the orbifold Chow ring of semi-projective toric DM stacks, generalizing the orbifold Chow ring formula of projective toric DM stacks by Borisov-Chen-Smith. We also consider a special kind of semi-projective toric DM stacks, the Lawrence toric DM stacks. We prove that the orbifold Chow ring of a Lawrence toric DM stack is isomorphic to the orbifold Chow ring of its associated hypertoric DM stack studied in \cite{JT}.
A theorem of Esnault, Srinivas and Viehweg asserts that if the Chow group of 0-cycles of a smooth complete complex variety decomposes, then the top-degree coherent cohomology group decomposes similarly. In this note, we prove a similar statement for Chow groups of arbitrary codimension, provided the variety satisfies the Lefschetz standard conjecture.
We show the existence of a regular universal quotient as a smooth commutative algebraic group of the Chow group of 0-cycles on a projective reduced variety, and give over the field of complex numbers an analytic description of it. This generalizes the classical theory of the Albanese. The Chow group of 0-cycles is then isomorphic to this smooth algebraic group if and only if it is finite dimensional in the sense of Mumford. This generalizes the classical theorem of Roitman.
We introduce extended toric Deligne-Mumford stacks. We use an extended toric Deligne-Mumford stack to get the toric stack bundle and compute its orbifold Chow ring. Finally we generalize one result of Borisov, Chen and Smith so that the orbifold Chow ring of the toric stack bundle and the Chow ring of its crepant resolution are fibres of a flat family.
The arithmetic Chow groups and their product structure are extended from the category of regular arithmetic varieties to regular Deligne-Mumford stacks over the ring of integers in a number field.
We prove an extension of the Kato-Saito class field theory for smooth projective schemes over a finite field to schemes with singularities. As an application, we obtain Bloch's formula for the Chow groups of 0-cycles on such schemes. We identify the Chow group of 0-cycles on a normal projective scheme over an algebraically closed field to the Suslin homology of its regular locus. Our final result is a Roitman torsion theorem for smooth quasi-projective schemes over algebraically closed fields. This completes the missing $p$-torsion part in the torsion theorem of Spiess and Szamuely.
The aim of this note is to provide a variant statement of Mumford's theorem. This variant states that for a general variety, all Chow groups are "as large as possible", in the sense that they cannot be supported on a divisor.
We define and compare two different definitions of Chow motives for Deligne-Mumford stacks, associated with two definitions of Chow rings. The main result we prove is that both categories of motives are equivalent to the usual category of motives of algebraic varieties, but the motives of a given stack associated with both theories are not isomorphic. We will also give some examples of motives associated with some alegbraic stacks.
For any vector bundle $V$ on a toric Deligne-Mumford stack $\ix$ the formalism of \cite{EJK:16} defines two intertial products $\star_{V^{+}}$ and $\star_{V^{-}}$ on the Chow group of the inertia stack. We give an explicit presentation for the integral $\star_{V^+}$ and $\star_{V^-}$ Chow rings, extending earlier work of Boris-Chen-Smith \cite{BCS:05} and Jiang-Tsen \cite{JiTs:10} in the orbifold Chow ring case, which corresponds to $V = 0$. We also describe an {\em asymptotic} product on the rational Chow group of the inertia stack obtained by letting the rank of the bundle $V$ go to infinity…
Given a smooth variety $X$ and an effective Cartier divisor $D \subset X$, we show that the cohomological Chow group of 0-cycles on the double of $X$ along $D$ has a canonical decomposition in terms of the Chow group of 0-cycles ${\rm CH}_0(X)$ and the Chow group of 0-cycles with modulus ${\rm CH}_0(X|D)$ on $X$. When $X$ is projective, we construct an Albanese variety with modulus and show that this is the universal regular quotient of ${\rm CH}_0(X|D)$. As a consequence of the above decomposition, we prove the Roitman torsion theorem for the 0-cycles with modulus. We show that ${\rm CH}_0(X|…
Let k be an algebraically closed field and X a smooth projective k-variety. A famous theorem of A. A. Roitman states that the canonical map from the degree zero part of the Chow group of zero cycles on X to the group of k-points of its Albanese variety induces an isomorphism on torsion prime to the characteristic of k. In the present paper we prove a generalisation to quasi-projective varieties admitting a smooth compactification. As was first observed by Ramachandran, for such a generalisation one should replace the Chow group of zero cycles by Suslin's 0-th algebraic singular homology group …
Let $X$ be a projective algebraic manifold and let $CH^r(X)$ be the Chow group of algebraic cycles of codimension $r$ on $X$, modulo rational equivalence. Working with a candidate Bloch-Beilinson filtration $\{F^ν\}_{ν\geq 0}$ on $CH^r(X)\otimes {\Bbb Q}$ due to the second author, we construct a space of arithmetic Hodge theoretic invariants $\nabla J^{r,ν}(X)$ and corresponding map $ϕ_{X}^{r,ν} : Gr_{F}^νCH^r(X)\otimes {\Bbb Q} \to \nabla J^{r,ν}(X)$, and determine conditions on $X$ for which the kernel and image of $ϕ_{X}^{r,ν}$ are ``uncountably large''.
Chow stability is one notion of Mumford's Geometric Invariant Theory for studying the moduli space of polarized varieties. Kapranov, Sturmfels and Zelevinsky detected that Chow stability of polarized toric varieties is determined by its inherent {\it secondary polytope}, which is a polytope whose vertices correspond to regular triangulations of the associated polytope \cite{KSZ}. In this paper, we give a purely convex-geometrical proof that the Chow form of a projective toric variety is $H$-semistable if and only if it is $H$-polystable with respect to the standard complex torus action $H$. Th…
Mumford proved that psi^g - lambda_1 psi^{g-1} + ... + (-1)^g lambda_g = 0 in the Chow ring of M_{g,1} [Mum83]. We find an explicit recursive formula for psi^g - lambda_1 psi^{g-1} + ... + (-1)^g lambda_g in the tautological ring of \Mbar_{g,1} as a combination of classes supported on boundary strata.
We prove the bigness of the Chow-Mumford line bundle associated to a $\mathbb{Q}$-Gorenstein family of log Fano varieties of maximal variation with uniformly K-stable general geometric fibers. This result generalizes a recent theorem of Codogni and Patakfalvi to the logarithmic setting.
We identify the difference between the CM polarisation and the Chow polarisation on the ``Hilbert scheme''. As a consequence, we give a numerical criterion for the CM stability as in Mumfords' G.I.T.. Also, we write down an explicit formula for the generalised futaki invariant interms of weights and multiplicities of the associated degeneration.
If $M$ is a projective manifold in $P^N$, then one can associate to each one parameter subgroup $H$ of $SL(N+1)$ the Mumford $μ$ invariant. The manifold $M$ is Chow-Mumford stable if $μ$ is positive for all $H$. Tian has defined the notion of K-stability, and has shown it to be intimately related to the existence of Kähler-Einstein metrics. The manifold $M$ is K-stable if $μ'$ is positive for all $H$, where $μ'$ is an invariant which is defined in terms of the Mabuchi K-energy. In this paper we derive an explicit formula for $μ'$ in the case where $M$ is a curve. The formula is similar to Mumf…
We compute the rational Chow class of the locus of genus 2 curves admitting a d-to-1 map to a genus 1 curve, recovering a result of Faber-Pagani when d=2. The answer exhibits quasi-modularity properties similar to those in the Gromov-Witten theory of a fixed genus 1 curve. Along the way, we give a classification of Harris-Mumford admissible covers of a genus 1 curve by a genus 2 curve, which may be of independent interest. As an application of the main calculation, we compute the number of d-elliptic curves in a very general family of genus 2 curves obtained by fixing five branch points of the…
