Let M be the moduli space of semistable rank 2 Higgs pairs (V,ϕ) with trivial determinant over a smooth projective curve X of genus g>1. We compute the stringy E-function of M and prove that there does not exist a symplectic desingularization of M for g>2.
We compute the stringy E function of the moduli space of rank 2 bundles over a Riemann surface of genus 3. In doing so, we answer a question of Batyrev about the stringy E functions of the GIT quotients of linear representations.
The Pfaffian-Grassmannian correspondence relates certain pairs of derived equivalent non-birational Calabi-Yau 3-folds. Given such a pair, I construct a set of derived equivalences corresponding to mutations of an exceptional collection on the relevant Grassmannian, and give a mirror symmetry interpretation, following a physical analysis of Eager, Hori, Knapp, and Romo.
Let $X$ be a complex projective algebraic variety with Gorenstein quotient singularities and $\X$ a smooth Deligne-Mumford stack having $X$ as its coarse moduli space. We show that the CSM class $c^{SM}(X)$ coincides with the pushforward to $X$ of the total Chern class $c(T_{I\X})$ of the inertia stack $I\X$. We also show that the stringy Chern class $c_{str}(X)$ of $X$, whenever is defined, coincides with the pushforward to $X$ of the total Chern class $c(T_{II\X})$ of the double inertia stack $II\X$. Some consequences concerning stringy/orbifold Hodge numbers are deduced.
We study the moduli space M(G,A) of flat G-bundles on an Abelian surface A, where G is a compact, simple, simply connected, connected Lie group. Equivalently, M(G,A) is the (coarse) moduli space of s-equivalence classes of holomorphic semi-stable G_C-bundles with trivial Chern classes where G_C is the complexified group. M(G,A) has the structure of a hyperkahler orbifold. We show that when G is Sp(n) or SU(n), M(G,A) has a natural hyperkahler desingularization which we exhibit as a moduli space of G_C-bundles with an altered stability condition. In this way, we obtain the two known families of…
Let $R$ be a complete discrete valuation ring with fraction field of characteristic $0$ and algebraically closed residue field of characteristic $p>0$. Let $X_R \to \mathrm{Spec}(R)$ be a smooth projective morphism of relative dimension $1$. We prove that, given a line bundle $\mathcal{L}_R$ the moduli space of Gieseker stable torsion-free sheaves of rank $r\geq 2$ over $X_R$, with determinant $\mathcal{L}_R$, is smooth over $R$.
Let SU_X(3) be the moduli space of semi-stable vector bundles of rank 3 and trivial determinant on a curve X of genus 2. It maps onto P^8 and the map is a double cover branched over a sextic hypersurface called the Coble sextic. In the dual P^8 there is a unique cubic hypersurface, the Coble cubic, singular exactly along the abelian surface of degree 1 line bundles on X. We give a new proof that these two hypersurfaces are dual. As an immediate corollary, we derive a Torelli-type result.
We propose a three-step program for the classification of stable rank 2 bundles on the projective space $\mathbb{P}^3$ inspired by an article by Hartshorne and Rao. While this classification program has been successfully completed for stable rank 2 bundles with even determinant and $c_2\le5$, much less is known for bundles with odd determinant. After revising the known facts about these objects, we list all possible spectra and minimal monads for stable rank 2 bundles with odd determinant and $c_2\le8$. We provide a full classification of all bundles with positive minimal monads, provide a neg…
Let $M$ be the moduli space of generalized parabolic bundles (GPBs) of rank $r$ and degree $d$ on a smooth curve $X$. Let $M_{\bar L}$ be the closure of its subset consisting of GPBs with fixed determinant ${\bar L}$. We define a moduli functor for which $M_{\bar L}$ is the coarse moduli scheme. Using the correspondence between GPBs on $X$ and torsion-free sheaves on a nodal curve $Y$ of which $X$ is a desingularization, we show that $M_{\bar L}$ can be regarded as the compactified moduli scheme of vector bundles on $Y$ with fixed determinant. We get a natural scheme structure on the closure o…
Let $X$ be an irreducible smooth projective curve, defined over an algebraically closed field $k$, of genus at least three and $L$ a line bundle on $X$. Let ${\mathcal M}_X(r,L)$ be the moduli space of stable vector bundles on $X$ of rank $r$ and determinant $L$ with $r\geq 2$. We prove that the Brauer group ${\rm Br}(\mathcal{M}_X(r,L))$ is cyclic of order ${\rm g.c.d.}(r,{\rm degree}(L))$. We also prove that ${\rm Br}(\mathcal{M}_X(r,L))$ is generated by the class of the projective bundle obtained by restricting the universal projective bundle. These results were proved earlier in \cite{BBGN…
Let $Y$ be an integral nodal projective curve of arithmetic genus $g\ge 2$ with $m$ nodes defined over an algebraically closed field $k$ and $x$ a nonsingular closed point of $Y$. Let $n$ and $d$ be coprime integers with $n\ge 2$. Fix a line bundle $L$ of degree $d$ on $Y$. Let $U_Y(n,d,L)$ denote the (compactified) "fixed determinant moduli space". We prove that the restriction $\mathcal{U}_{L,x}$ of the Poincare bundle to $x \times U_Y(n,d,L)$ is stable with respect to the polarisation $θ_L$ and its restriction to $x \times U'_Y(n,d,L)$, where $U'_Y(n,d,L)$ is the moduli space of vector bund…
Let $X$ be any smooth simply connected projective surface. We consider some moduli space of pure sheaves of dimension one on $X$, i.e. $\mhu$ with $u=(0,L,χ(u)=0)$ and $L$ an effective line bundle on $X$, together with a series of determinant line bundles associated to $r[\mo_X]-n[\mo_{pt}]$ in Grothendieck group of $X$. Let $g_L$ denote the arithmetic genus of curves in the linear system $\ls$. For $g_L\leq2$, we give a upper bound of the dimensions of sections of these line bundles by restricting them to a generic projective line in $\ls$. Our result gives, together with Göttsche's computati…
Let $\mhu$ be the moduli space of semi-stable pure sheaves of class $u$ on a smooth complex projective surface $X$. We specify $u=(0,L,χ(u)=0),$ i.e. sheaves in $u$ are of dimension $1$. There is a natural morphism $π$ from the moduli space $\mhu$ to the linear system $\ls$. We study a series of determinant line bundles $\lcn$ on $\mhu$ via $π.$ Denote $g_L$ the arithmetic genus of curves in $\ls.$ For any $X$ and $g_L\leq0$, we compute the generating function $Z^r(t)=\sum_{n}h^0(\mhu,\lcn)t^n$. For $X$ being $\mathbb{P}^2$ or $\mathbb{P}(\mo_{\pone}\oplus\mo_{\pone}(-e))$ with $e=0,1$, we com…
We describe new irreducible components of the moduli space of rank $2$ semistable torsion free sheaves on the three-dimensional projective space whose generic point corresponds to non-locally free sheaves whose singular locus is either 0-dimensional or consists of a line plus disjoint points. In particular, we prove that the moduli spaces of semistable sheaves with Chern classes $(c_1,c_2,c_3)=(-1,2n,0)$ and $(c_1,c_2,c_3)=(0,n,0)$ always contain at least one rational irreducible component. As an application, we prove that the number of such components grows as the second Chern class grows, an…
We constructed a projective moduli space of semistable torsion free sheaves with `fixed determinant' on a reducible curve. When a family of smooth curves degenerates to the reducible curve, our moduli space is a degeneration of the moduli spaces of semistable vector bundles with a fixed determinant on the smooth curves. Moreover, the moduli space is reduced and seminormal.

Let X be a smooth projective curve of genus at least two over the complex numbers. A pair (E,ϕ) over X consists of an algebraic vector bundle E over X and a holomorphic section ϕof E. There is a concept of stability for pairs which depends on a real parameter τ. Here we prove that the third cohomology groups of the moduli spaces of τ-stable pairs with fixed determinant and rank at least two are polarised pure Hodge structures, and they are isomorphic to H^1(X) with its natural polarisation (except in very few exceptional cases). This implies a Torelli theorem for such moduli spaces. We recover…
Over the past 20 years, a great deal of work has been done on the moduli spaces of coherent systems on algebraic curves. Until recently, however, there has been very little work on the fixed determinant case, except for the special case of rank 2 and canonical determinant. This situation has changed due to two papers of B. Osserman, who has obtained lower bounds for the dimensions of the fixed determinant moduli spaces in some cases. Our object in this paper is to show that some of Osserman's bounds are sharp.
We give a moduli-theoretic treatment of the existence and properties of moduli spaces of semistable quiver representations, avoiding methods from geometric invariant theory. Using the existence criteria of Alper--Halpern-Leistner--Heinloth, we show that for many stability functions, the stack of semistable representations admits an adequate moduli space, and prove that this moduli space is proper over the moduli space of semisimple representations. We construct a natural determinantal line bundle that descends to a semiample line bundle on the moduli space and provide new effective bounds for …
We perform an exact computation of the gauged linear sigma model associated to a D1-D5 brane system on a resolved A_1 singularity. This is accomplished via supersymmetric localization on the blown-up two-sphere. We show that in the blow-down limit C^2/Z_2 the partition function reduces to the Nekrasov partition function evaluating the equivariant volume of the instanton moduli space. For finite radius we obtain a tower of world-sheet instanton corrections, that we identify with the equivariant Gromov-Witten invariants of the ADHM moduli space. We show that these corrections can be encoded in a…
For singular metrics, there is no Quillen metric formalism on cohomology determinant. In this paper, we develop an admissible theory, with which the arithmetic Deligne-Riemann-Roch isometry can be established for singular metrics. As an application, we first study Weil-Petersson metrics and Takhtajan-Zograf metrics on moduli spaces of punctured Riemann surfaces, and then give a more geometric interpretation of our determinant metrics in terms of Selberg zeta functions. We end this paper by proposing an arithmetic factorization for Weil-Petersson metrics, cuspidal metrics and Selberg zeta funct…
We study the Chow group of 1-cycles of the moduli space of semistable parabolic vector bundles of fixed rank, determinant and a generic weight over a nonsingular projective curve over $\mathbb{C}$ of genus at least 3. We show that, the Chow group of 1-cycles remains isomorphic as we vary the generic weight. As a consequence, we can give an explicit description of the Chow group in the case of rank 2 and determinant $\mathcal{O}(x)$, where $x\in X$ is a fixed point.
In this article we extend the proof given by Biswas and Gomez of a Torelli theorem for the moduli space of Higgs bundles with fixed determinant, to the parabolic situation.
We modify the standard perfect symmetric obstruction theory for moduli spaces of simple perfect complexes, to the situation of complexes on abelian threefolds with fixed determinant and Fourier-Mukai determinant. As outcome we attach nontrivial Donaldson-Thomas invariants to moduli spaces for complexes modulo twist and translation.
We present a new family of monads whose cohomology is a stable rank two vector bundle on $\mathbb{P}^3$. We also study the irreducibility and smoothness together with a geometrical description of some of these families. These facts are used to construct a new infinite series of rational moduli components of stable rank two vector bundles with trivial determinant and growing second Chern class. We also prove that the moduli space of stable rank two vector bundles with trivial determinant and second Chern class equal to 5 has exactly three irreducible rational components.
The moduli space M(r,d) of stable, rank r, degree d vector bundles on a smooth projective curve of genus g>1 is shown to be birational to M(h,0) x A, where h=hcf(r,d) and A is affine space of dimension (r^2-h^2)(g-1). The birational isomorphism is compatible with fixing determinants in M(r,d) and M(h,0) and we obtain as a corollary that the moduli space of bundles of rank r and fixed determinant of degree d is rational, when r and d are coprime. A key ingredient in the proof is the use of a naturally defined Brauer class for the function field of M(r,d).
We consider the moduli space $\cSU_C^s(r,\cO_C)$ of rank r stable vector bundles with trivial determinant on a smooth projective curve $C$ of genus $g$. We show that the Abel-Jacobi map on the rational Chow group $CH_1(\cSU_C^s(r,\cO_C))_{hom}\otimes \Q$ of one cycles which are homologous to zero, is an isomorphism onto the bottom weight intermediate Jacobian, which is identified with the Jacobian $Jac(C)\otimes \Q$. The result holds whenever $r\geq 2$ and $g\geq 4$.
We compute Betti numbers of both the components of the moduli space of rank 2 semi-stable torsion-free sheaves with fixed determinant over a reducible nodal curve with two smooth components intersecting at a node. We also compute the intersection Betti numbers of the moduli space.
Let $M(2,\textbf{\underline{w}},χ)$ be the moduli space of rank $2$ torsion-free sheaves over a reducible nodal curve with each component having utmost two nodal singularities. We show that in each component of $M(2,\textbf{\underline{w}},χ)$, the closure of rank $2$ vector bundles with fixed determinant is rational.
We study the rational Chow motives of certain moduli spaces of vector bundles on a smooth projective curve with additional structure (such as a parabolic structure or Higgs field). In the parabolic case, these moduli spaces depend on a choice of stability condition given by weights; our approach is to use explicit descriptions of variation of this stability condition in terms of simple birational transformations (standard flips/flops and Mukai flops) for which we understand the variation of the Chow motives. For moduli spaces of parabolic vector bundles, we describe the change in motive under …
In this paper we construct the analogue of Dedekind eta function for odd dimensional CY manifolds. We use the theory of determinant line bundles. We constructed a canonical holomorphic section $η^{N}$ of some power of the determinant line bundle on the moduli space of odd dimensional CY manifolds. According to Viehweg the moduli space of moduli space of polarized odd dimensional CY manifolds $\mathcal{M}(M)$ is quasi projective. According to a Theorem due to Hironaka we can find a projective smooth variety $\bar {\mathcal{M}(M)}$ such that $\bar{\mathcal{M}(M)}\backslash$ $\mathcal{M}(M)=\math…
Let $U^{'s}_L(n,d)$ be the moduli space of stable vector bundles of rank $n$ with determinant $L$ where $L$ is a fixed line bundle of degree $d$ over a nodal curve $Y$. We prove that the projective Poincare bundle on $Y \times U^{'s}_L(n,d)$ and the projective Picard bundle on $U^{'s}_L(n,d)$ are stable for suitable polarisation. For a nonsingular point $x \in Y$, we show that the restriction of the projective Poincare bundle to $x \times U^{'s}_L(n,d)$ is stable for any polarisation. We prove that for arithmetic genus $g\ge 3$ and for $g=n=2, d$ odd, the Picard group of the moduli space $U'_L…
We determine the Brauer group and Picard group of the moduli space $U^{' s}_{L,par}$ of stable parabolic vector bundles of rank $r$ with determinant $L$ on a real curve $Y$ of arithmetic genus $g \,\ge\, 2$ with at most nodes as singularities.
We find the automorphism group of the moduli space of parabolic bundles on a smooth curve (with fixed determinant and system of weights). This group is generated by: automorphisms of the marked curve, tensoring with a line bundle, taking the dual, and Hecke transforms (using the filtrations given by the parabolic structure). A Torelli theorem for parabolic bundles with arbitrary rank and generic weights is also obtained. These results are extended to the classification of birational equivalences which are defined over "big" open subsets (3-birational maps, i.e. birational maps giving an isomor…
In the prequel to this paper, two versions of Le Potier's strange duality conjecture for sheaves over abelian surfaces were studied. A third version is considered here. In the current setup, the isomorphism involves moduli spaces of sheaves with fixed determinant and fixed determinant of the Fourier-Mukai transform on one side, and moduli spaces where both determinants vary, on the other side. We first establish the isomorphism in rank one using the representation theory of Heisenberg groups. For product abelian surfaces, the isomorphism is then shown to hold for sheaves with fiber degree 1 vi…
Let $C$ be a chain-like curve over $\mathbb{C}$. In this paper, we investigate the rationality of moduli spaces of $w$-semistable vector bundles on $C$ of arbitrary rank and fixed determinant by putting some restrictions on the Euler characteristics.
We prove moduli spaces of semistable parabolic bundles and generalized parabolic sheaves with fixed determinant on a smooth projective curve are globally $F$-regular type.

In this short note, we show that any rational curve passing through the generic point in a moduli space of stable bundles with rank $r$ and fixed determinant on a smooth projective curve of genus $g\ge 4$ has degree (with respect to the anti-canonical line bundle of the moduli space) at least $2r$. It has degree $2r$ if and only if it is a Hecke curve.
We prove that the moduli space of stable maps of degree 2 to the moduli space of rank 2 stable bundles of fixed determinant O(-x) over a smooth projective curve of genus g>2 has two irre- ducible components which intersect transversely. One of them is Kir- wan's partial desingularization of the moduli space of rank 2 semistable bundles with determinant isomorphic to O(y-x) for some y in X. The other component is the partial desingularization of PHom(sl(2)^*;W)//PGL(2) for a vector bundle W of rank g over the Jacobian of X. We also show that the Hilbert scheme H, the Chow scheme C of conics in …
We completely describe the components of expected dimension of the Hilbert Scheme of rational curves of fixed degree $k$ in the moduli space ${\rm SU}_{C}(r,L)$ of semistable vector bundles of rank $r$ and determinant $L$ on a curve $C$. We show that for every $k \geq 1$ there are ${\rm gcd}(r, °L)$ unobstructed components. In addition, if $k$ is divisible by $r_1(r-r_1)(g-1)$ for $1\le r_1\le r-1$, there is an additional obstructed component of the expected dimension for each such $r_1$. We construct families of obstructed components and show that their generic point is not the generic vector…
The moduli spaces of flat $\mathrm{SL}_2$- and $\mathrm{PGL}_2$-connections are known to be singular SYZ-mirror partners. We establish the equality of Hodge numbers of their intersection (stringy) cohomology. In rank two, this answers a question raised by Tamás Hausel in Remark 3.30 of "Global topology of the Hitchin system".
Let $X$ be a smooth projective curve of genus $g\ge 3$ and $M_0$ be the moduli space of rank 2 semistable bundles over $X$ with trivial determinant. There are three desingularizations of this singular moduli space constructed by Narasimhan-Ramanan \cite{NR}, Seshadri \cite{Se1} and Kirwan \cite{k5} respectively. The relationship between them has not been understood so far. The purpose of this paper is to show that there is a morphism from Kirwan's desingularization to Seshadri's, which turns out to be the composition of two blow-downs. In doing so, we will show that the singularities of $M_0$ …
In this article, we prove the Hodge conjecture for a desingularization of the moduli space of rank 2, semi-stable, torsion-free sheaves with fixed odd degree determinant over a very general irreducible nodal curve of genus at least 2. We also compute the algebraic Poincare polynomial of the associated cohomology ring.
We study the Picard groups of moduli spaces in positive characteristics and we give a "$p$-adic" proof that the Picard group of moduli of vector bundles of fixed determinant is isomorphic to the group of integers. Along the way we prove that the local fundamental group scheme of a normal unirational projective variety is trivial. This is reminiscent of results of Serre and Nygaard who studied the fundamental groups of smooth, projective, unirational varieties.
We develop a holomorphic equivalence between on one hand the space of pairs (stable bundle, flat connection on the bundle) and the "sheaf of holomorphic connections" (the sheaf of splittings of the one-jet sequence) for the determinant (Quillen) line bundle over the moduli space of vector bundles on a compact connected Riemann surface. This equivalence is shown to be holomorphically symplectic. The equivalences, both holomorphic and symplectic, seem to be quite general, in that they extend to other general families of holomorphic bundles and holomorphic connections, in particular those arising…
In this paper, we give a construction of the moduli space of filtered representations of a given quiver of fixed dimension vector with the appropriate notion of stability. The construction of the moduli of filtered representations uses the moduli of representations of ladder quiver. The ladder quiver is introduced using a given quiver and a linear type quiver. We also study determinantal theta functions on such moduli spaces.
