Given a proper morphism X -> S, we show that a large class of objects in the derived category of X naturally form an Artin stack locally of finite presentation over S. This class includes S-flat coherent sheaves and, more generally, contains the collection of all S-flat objects which can appear in the heart of a reasonable sheaf of t-structures on X. In this sense, this is the Mother of all Moduli Spaces (of sheaves). The proof proceeds by studying the finite presentation properties, deformation theory, and Grothendieck existence theorem for objects in the derived category, and then applying Artin's representability theorem.
In this article, we mainly obtain the Riemann-Hurwitz theorems for harmonic morphisms on (vertex-weighted) metric graphs or metrized complexes of algebraic curves, inspired of the recent work on harmonic morphisms of graphs or metrized complexes due to many researchers. By making use of these Riemann-Hurwitz theorems, we then systematically establish the second main theorems for harmonic morphisms on finite graphs, vertex-weighted graphs, (vertex-weighted) metric graphs or metrized complexes of algebraic curves, from the viewpoint of Nevanlinna theory.
We introduce exponential complexes of sheaves on manifolds. They are resolutions of the (Tate twisted) constant sheaves of the rational numbers, generalising the short exact exponential sequence. There are canonical maps from the exponential complexes to the de Rham complex. Using this, we introduce new complexes calculating the rational Deligne cohomology. We call them exponential Deligne complexes. Their advantage is that, at least at the generic point of a complex variety, one can define Beilinson's regulator map to the rational Deligne cohomology on the level of complexes. Namely, we defin…
We describe the moduli spaces of morphisms between polarized complex abelian varieties. The discrete invariants, derived from a Poincare' decomposition of morphisms, are the types of polarizations and of lattice homomorphisms occurring in the decomposition. For a given type of morphisms the moduli variety is irreducible, and is obtained from a product of Siegel spaces modulo the action of a discrete group.
In this note it is shown that associating to a principally polarized abelian variety its de Rham cohomology defines a faithfully flat morphism of the moduli space of principally polarized abelian varieties in positive characteristics to the moduli space of symplectic $F$-Zips as defined in \cite{MW}.
A morphism of nonreduced Gieseker - Maruyama functor (of semistable coherent torsion-free sheaves) on a surface to the nonreduced functor of admissible semistable pairs with the same Hilbert polynomial, is constructed. This leads to the morphism of moduli schemes with possibly nonreduced scheme structures. As usually, we consider subfunctors corresponding to main components of moduli schemes.
We give a sufficient condition under which the moduli space of morphisms between logarithmic schemes is quasifinite under the moduli space of morphisms between the underlying schemes. This implies that the moduli space of stable maps from logarithmic curves to a target logarithmic scheme is finite over the moduli space of stable maps, and therefore that it has a projective coarse moduli space when the target is projective.
Let X be a smooth projective variety with the action of the n dimensional torus. The article describes the moduli space of torus equivariant morphisms from stable toric varieties into X as the inverse limit of the GIT quotients of X and their flips when these spaces are enhanced with a naturally associated Deligne-Mumford stack structure. This description is used for constructing a class in the Chow group of the moduli space of dimension dim(X)-n which is invariant to equivariant deformations of X.
In this paper we prove several lifting theorems for morphisms of tropical curves. We interpret the obstruction to lifting a finite harmonic morphism of augmented metric graphs to a morphism of algebraic curves as the non-vanishing of certain Hurwitz numbers, and we give various conditions under which this obstruction does vanish. In particular we show that any finite harmonic morphism of (non-augmented) metric graphs lifts. We also give various applications of these results. For example, we show that linear equivalence of divisors on a tropical curve C coincides with the equivalence relation g…
We study birational morphisms between smooth projective surfaces that respect a given Poisson structure, with particular attention to induced birational maps between the (Poisson) moduli spaces of sheaves on those surfaces. In particular, to any birational morphism, we associate a corresponding "minimal lift" operation on sheaves of homological dimension <=1, and study its properties. In particular, we show that minimal lift induces a stratification of the moduli space of simple sheaves on the codomain by open subspaces of the moduli space of simple sheaves on the domain, compatibly with the i…
We prove formal GAGA for good moduli space morphisms under an assumption of "enough vector bundles" (which holds for instance for quotient stacks). This supports the philosophy that though they are non-separated, good moduli space morphisms largely behave like proper morphisms.
We show that there is a logarithmic algebraic space parameterizing logarithmic morphisms between fixed logarithmic schemes when those logarithmic schemes satisfy natural hypotheses. As a corollary, we obtain the algebraicity of the stack of stable logarithmic maps without restriction on the logarithmic structure of the target.
We construct the coarse moduli space $\cM_{qc}(σ)$ of quadratic line complexes with a fixed Segre symbol $σ$ as well as the moduli space $\cM_{ss}(σ)$ of the corresponding singular surfaces. We show that the map associating to a quadratic line complex its singular surface induces a morphism $π: \cM_{qc}(σ) \ra \cM_{ss}(σ)$. Finally we deduce that the varieties of cosingular quadratic line complexes are almost always curves.
We contribute to the foundations of tropical geometry with a view towards formulating tropical moduli problems, and with the moduli space of curves as our main example. We propose a moduli functor for the moduli space of curves and show that it is representable by a geometric stack over the category of rational polyhedral cones. In this framework the natural forgetful morphisms between moduli spaces of curves with marked points function as universal curves. Our approach to tropical geometry permits tropical moduli problems---moduli of curves or otherwise---to be extended to logarithmic schemes…
We consider moduli stacks of Bridgeland semistable objects that previously had only set-theoretic identifications with Uhlenbeck compactification spaces. On a K3 surface $X$, we give examples where such a moduli stack is isomorphic to a moduli stack of slope semistable locally free sheaves on the Fourier-Mukai partner $\hat{X}$. This yields a morphism from the stack of Bridgeland semistable objects to a projective scheme, which induces an injection on closed points. It also allows us to extend a theorem of Bruzzo-Maciocia on Hilbert schemes to a statement on moduli of complexes.
Let $f : X \longrightarrow Y$ be a proper and local complete intersection morphism of schemes. We prove that $\mathbb{R}f_{*}$ preserves perfect complexes, without any projectivity or noetherian assumptions. This provides a different proof of a theorem by Neeman and Lipman based on techniques from derived algebraic geometry to proceed a reduction to the noetherian case.
Given a collection of boundary divisors in the moduli space of stable genus-zero n-pointed curves, Giansiracusa proved that their intersection is nonempty if and only if all pairwise intersections are nonempty. We give a complete classification of the pairs (g,n) for which the analogous statement holds in the moduli space of n-pointed curves of genus g.
We show a few basic results about moduli spaces of semistable modules over Lie algebroids. The first result shows that such moduli spaces exist for relative projective morphisms of noetherian schemes, removing some earlier constraints. The second result proves general separatedness Langton type theorem for such moduli spaces. More precisely, we prove S-completness of some moduli stacks of semistable modules. In some special cases this result identifies closed points of the moduli space of Gieseker semistable sheaves on a projective scheme and of the Donaldson--Uhlenbeck compactification of the…
We propose an alternative definition for families of stable pairs $(X,D)$ over a possibly non-reduced base when $D$ is reduced, by replacing $(X,D)$ with an appropriate orbifold pair $(\mathcal X,\mathcal D)$. This definition of a stable family ends up being equivalent to previous ones, but has the advantage of being more amenable to the tools of deformation theory. Moreover, adjunction for $(\mathcal X,\mathcal D)$ holds on the nose; there is no correction term coming from the different. This leads to the existence of functorial gluing morphisms for families of stable surfaces and functorial …
In this article we study the deformation of finite maps and show how to use this deformation theory to construct varieties with given invariants in a projective space. Among other things, we prove a criterion that determines when a finite map can be deformed to a one--to--one map. We use this criterion to construct new simple canonical surfaces with different $c_1^2$ and $χ$. Our general results enable us to describe some new components of the moduli of surfaces of general type. We also find infinitely many moduli spaces $\mathcal M_{(x',0,y)}$ having one component whose general point correspo…
We generalize Illusie's result to prove the decomposition of the de Rham complex with smooth horizontal coefficients for a semistable $S$-morphism $f:X\ra Y$ which is liftable over $\Z/p^2\Z$. As an application, we prove the Kollár vanishing theorem in positive characteristic for a semistable $S$-morphism $f:X\ra Y$ which is liftable over $\Z/p^2\Z$, where all concerned horizontal divisors are smooth over $Y$.
The Gieseker-Uhlenbeck morphism maps the Gieseker moduli space of stable rank-2 sheaves on a smooth projective surface to the Uhlenbeck compactification, and is a generalization of the Hilbert-Chow morphism for Hilbert schemes of points. When the surface is the complex projective plane, we determine all the 1-point genus-0 Gromov-Witten invariants extremal with respect to the Gieseker-Uhlenbeck morphism. The main idea is to understand the virtual fundamental class of the moduli space of stable maps by studying the obstruction sheaf and using a meromorphic 2-form on the Gieseker moduli space.
Automorphisms of a perfect complex naturally have the structure of an $\infty$-group: the 1-morphisms are quasi-isomorphisms, the 2-morphisms are homotopies, etc. This article starts by proving some basic properties of this $\infty$-group. We go on to study the deformation theory of this stack of $\infty$-groups and give a criterion for this stack to be formally smooth. The classifying stack of this $\infty$-group classifies forms of a complex. We discuss a version of Hilbert 90 for perfect complexes.
We generalize Luna's fundamental lemma to smooth morphisms between stacks with good moduli spaces. We also give a precise condition for when it holds for non-smooth morphisms and versions for coherent sheaves and complexes. This generalizes earlier results by Alper, Abramovich--Temkin, Edidin and Nevins.
For an abelian or a projective K3 surface $X$ over an algebraically closed field $k$, consider the moduli space $\splcpx_{X/k}\uet$ of the objects $E$ in $D^b(\mathrm{Coh}(X))$ satisfying $\Ext^{-1}_X(E,E)=0$ and $\Hom(E,E)\cong k$. Then we can prove that $\splcpx_{X/k}\uet$ is smooth and has a symplectic structure.
We describe the action of the different Frobenius morphisms on the cohomology ring of the moduli stack of algebraic vector bundles of fixed rank and determinant on an algebraic curve over a finite field in characteristic p and analyse special situations like vector bundles on the projective line and relations with infinite Grassmannians.
We compute the rational homology of the moduli stack $\mathcal{M}$ of objects in the derived category of certain smooth complex projective varieties $X$ including toric varieties, flag varieties, curves, surfaces, and some 3- and 4-folds. We identify Joyce's vertex algebra construction on $H_\ast(\mathcal{M},\mathbb{Q})$ with a generalized super-lattice vertex algebra associated to $K^0_{\rm top}(X^{\rm an}) \oplus K^1_{\rm top}(X^{\rm an})$.
We construct a moduli scheme for semistable pre-$\D$-modules with prescribed singularities and numerical data on a smooth projective variety. These pre-$\D$-modules are to be viewed as regular holonomic $\D$-modules with `level structure'. We also construct a moduli scheme for perverse sheaves on the variety with prescribed singularities and other numerical data, and represent the de Rham functor (which gives the Riemann-Hilbert correspondence) by an analytic morphism between the two moduli schemes.
We modify the standard perfect symmetric obstruction theory for moduli spaces of simple perfect complexes, to the situation of complexes on abelian threefolds with fixed determinant and Fourier-Mukai determinant. As outcome we attach nontrivial Donaldson-Thomas invariants to moduli spaces for complexes modulo twist and translation.
Hurwitz numbers are a weighted count of degree d ramified covers of curves with specified ramification profiles at marked points on the codomain curve. Isomorphism classes of these covers can be included as a dense open set in a moduli space, called a Hurwitz space. The Hurwitz space has a forgetful morphism to the moduli space of marked, stable curves, and the degree of this morphism encodes the Hurwitz numbers. Mikhalkin has constructed a moduli space of tropical marked, stable curves, and this space is a tropical variety. In this paper, I construct a tropical analogue of the Hurwitz space i…
Let K be an algebraically closed, complete non-Archimedean field. The purpose of this paper is to carefully study the extent to which finite morphisms of algebraic K-curves are controlled by certain combinatorial objects, called skeleta. A skeleton is a metric graph embedded in the Berkovich analytification of X. A skeleton has the natural structure of a metrized complex of curves. We prove that a finite morphism of K-curves gives rise to a finite harmonic morphism of a suitable choice of skeleta. We use this to give analytic proofs of stronger "skeletonized" versions of some foundational resu…
We study cyclic covering morphisms from $\bar{M}_{0,n}$ to moduli spaces of unpointed stable curves of positive genus or compactified moduli spaces of principally polarized abelian varieties. Our main application is a construction of new semipositive vector bundles and nef divisors on $\bar{M}_{0,n}$, with a view toward the F-conjecture. In particular, we construct new extremal rays of the symmetric nef cone of $\bar{M}_{0,n}$. We also find an alternate description of all sl level 1 conformal blocks divisors on $\bar{M}_{0,n}$.
In this paper we define a Poisson structure on some moduli spaces related to principal G-bundles on elliptic curves, the simplest example being the moduli space of stable pairs: a vector bundle and its global section. We also study birational morphisms between projective spaces appearing as such moduli spaces.
Motivated by applications in moduli theory, we introduce a flexible and powerful language for expressing lower bounds on relative dimension of morphisms of schemes, and more generally of algebraic stacks. We show that the theory is robust and applies to a wide range of situations. Consequently, we obtain simple tools for making dimension-based deformation arguments on moduli spaces. Additionally, in a complementary direction we develop the basic properties of codimension for algebraic stacks. One of our goals is to provide a comprehensive toolkit for working transparently with dimension statem…
We show for the moduli space of rank-2 coherent sheaves on an algebraic surface that there exists a 'dual' moduli space. This dual space allows a construction of the first one without using the GIT construction. Furthermore, we obtain a Barth-morphism, generalizing the concept of jumping lines. This morphism is by construction a finite morphism.
We extend the methods of geometric invariant theory to actions of non--reductive groups in the case of homomorphisms between decomposable sheaves whose automorphism groups are non--reductive. Given a linearization of the natural action of the group $\Aut(E)\times\Aut(F)$ on Hom(E,F), a homomorphism is called stable if its orbit with respect to the unipotent radical is contained in the stable locus with respect to the natural reductive subgroup of the automorphism group. We encounter effective numerical conditions for a linearization such that the corresponding open set of semi-stable homomorph…
We prove that the moduli b-divisor of an lc-trivial fibration from a log canonical pair is log abundant. The result follows from a theorem on the restriction of the moduli b-divisor, based on a theory of lc-trivial morphisms, which allows us to treat $\mathbb{R}$-divisors and proper morphisms possibly with disconnected fibres. We also prove a theorem on extending a finite cover over a closed subvariety to that over a variety in arbitrary characteristic.
We give a rigorous definition of tropical fans (the "local building blocks for tropical varieties") and their morphisms. For such a morphism of tropical fans of the same dimension we show that the number of inverse images (counted with suitable tropical multiplicities) of a point in the target does not depend on the chosen point - a statement that can be viewed as the beginning of a tropical intersection theory. As an application we consider the moduli spaces of rational tropical curves (both abstract and in some R^r) together with the evaluation and forgetful morphisms. Using our results this…
In the first part of this paper we construct a model structure for the category of filtered cochain complexes of modules over some commutative ring $R$ and explain how the classical Rees construction relates this to the usual projective model structure over cochain complexes. The second part of the paper is devoted to the study of derived moduli of sheaves: we give a new proof of the representability of the derived stack of perfect complexes over a proper scheme and then use the new model structure for filtered complexes to tackle moduli of filtered derived modules. As an application, we const…
We generalize the adjunction between the functors $Rf_*$ and $f^!$ of derived categories of quasi-coherent sheaves for proper morphisms $f\colon X \to Y$ of Noetherian schemes to the following situation: Let $f$ be a finite type morphism and let $Z' \subseteq X$ and $Z \subseteq Y$ be closed subsets such that $f$ restricts to a proper morphism $f'\colon Z'\to Z$ of $f$. Then the functor $Rf_*$ is left adjoint to $RΓ_{Z'}f^!$ when considered as functors between complexes supported on $Z'$ or $Z$.
We give a definition of tropical orbit spaces and their morphisms. We show that, under certain conditions, the weighted number of preimages of a point in the target of such a morphism does not depend on the choice of this point. We equip the moduli spaces of elliptic tropical curves with a structure of tropical orbit space and, using our results on tropical orbit spaces, simplify the known proof of the fact that the weighted number of plane elliptic tropical curves of degree d with fixed j-invariant which pass through 3d-1 points in general position in $\RR^2$ is independent of the choice of a…
Let $k$ be a commutative ring and let $R$ be a commutative $k-$algebra. The aim of this paper is to define and discuss some connection morphisms between schemes associated to the representation theory of a (non necessarily commutative) $R-$algebra $A. $ We focus on the scheme $\ran//\GL_n$ of the $n-$dimensional representations of $A, $ on the Hilbert scheme $\Hilb_A^n$ parameterizing the left ideals of codimension $n$ of $A$ and on the affine scheme Spec $Γ_R^n(A)^{ab} $ of the abelianization of the divided powers of order $n$ over $A. $ We give a generalization of the Grothendieck-Deligne no…
We translate the equivariant decomposition theorem (in the case of a proper morphism of toric varieties) in to the language of combinatorially defined ``shifted minimal complexes''.
In [BM14b], the first author and Macrì constructed a family of nef divisors on any moduli space of Bridgeland-stable objects on a smooth projective variety X. In this article, we extend this construction to the setting of any separated scheme Y of finite type over a field, where we consider moduli spaces of Bridgeland-stable objects on Y with compact support. We also show that the nef divisor is compatible with the polarising ample line bundle coming from the GIT construction of the moduli space in the special case when Y admits a tilting bundle and the stability condition arises from a θ-stab…
