Let r : G_Q -> GL_2(Fpbar) be a p-ordinary and p-distinguished irreducible residual modular Galois representation. We show that the vanishing of the algebraic or analytic Iwasawa mu-invariant of a single modular form lifting r implies the vanishing of the corresponding mu-invariant for all such forms. Assuming that the mu-invariant vanishes, we also give explicit formulas for the difference in the algebraic or analytic lambda-invariants of modular forms lifting r. In particular, our formula shows that the lambda-invariant is constant on branches of the Hida family of r. We further show that our formulas are identical for the algebraic and analytic invariants, so that the truth of the main conjecture of Iwasawa theory for one form in the Hida family of r implies it for the entire Hida family.
Building on the construction of big Heegner points in the quaternionic setting, and their relation to special values of Rankin-Selberg $L$-functions, we obtain anticyclotomic analogues of the results of Emerton-Pollack-Weston on the variation of Iwasawa invariants in Hida families. In particular, combined with the known cases of the anticyclotomic Iwasawa main conjecture in weight $2$, our results yield a proof of the main conjecture for $p$-ordinary newforms of higher weights and trivial nebentypus.
The purpose of this paper is to build on results in {\it{higher codimension Iwasawa theory}}. The setting of our results involves Galois representations arising as cyclotomic twist deformations associated to (i) the tensor product of two cuspidal Hida families $F$ and $G$, and (ii) the tensor product of three cuspidal Hida families $F$, $G$ and $H$. On the analytic side, we consider (i) a pair of $3$-variable Rankin-Selberg $p$-adic $L$-functions constructed by Hida and (ii) a balanced $4$-variable $p$-adic $L$-function (due to Hsieh and Yamana) and an unbalanced $4$-variable $p$-adic $L$-func…
The central result of this paper is a refinement of Hida's duality theorem between ordinary Lambda-adic modular forms and the universal ordinary Hecke algebra. Specifically, we give a necessary condition for this duality to be integral with respect to particular submodules of the space ordinary Lambda-adic modular forms. This refinement allows us to give a simple proof that the universal ordinary cuspidal Hecke algebra modulo Eisenstein ideal is isomorphic to the Iwasawa algebra modulo an ideal related to the Kubota-Leopoldt p-adic L-function. The motivation behind these results stems from Oht…
This article extends our study of the geometry of the $p$-adic eigencurve at a point defined by a weight $1$ cuspform $f$ irregular at $p$ and having complex multiplication, and the implications in Iwasawa and in Hida theories. The novel results include the determination of the Fourier coefficients of certain non-classical $p$-adic modular forms belonging to the generalized eigenspace of $f$, in terms of $p$-adic logarithms of algebraic numbers. We also compute the "mysterious" cross-ratios of the $p$-ordinary filtrations of the Hida families containing $f$.
We establish a duality result proving the `functional equation' of the characteristic ideal of the Selmer group associated to a nearly ordinary Hilbert modular form over the cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_{p}$ extension of a totally real number field. Further, we use this result to establish a duality or algebraic `functional equation' for the `big' Selmer groups associated to the corresponding nearly ordinary Hida deformation. The multivariable cyclotomic Iwasawa main conjecture for nearly ordinary Hida family of Hilbert modular forms is not established yet and this can be thought of as an evidence t…
We develop Hida theory for Shimura varieties of type A without ordinary locus. In particular we show that the dimension of the space of ordinary forms is bounded independently of the weight and that there is a module of $Λ$-adic cuspidal ordinary forms which is of finite type over $Λ$, where $Λ$ is a twisted Iwasawa algebra.
We prove under mild hypotheses the three-variable Iwasawa main conjecture for $p$-ordinary modular forms in the indefinite setting. Our result is in a setting complementary to that in the work of Skinner-Urban, and it has applications to Greenberg's nonvanishing conjecture for the first derivatives at the center of $p$-adic $L$-functions of cusp forms in Hida families with root number $-1$ and to Howard's horizontal nonvanishing conjecture.
For a given Coleman family of modular forms, we construct a formal modeland prove the existence of a family of Galois representations associated to the Colemanfamily. As an application, we study the variations of Iwasawa $λ$- and $μ$-invariants of dualfine (strict) Selmer groups over the cyclotomic Zp-extension of Q in Coleman families ofmodular forms. This generalizes an earlier work of Jha and Sujatha for Hida families.
For the anticyclotomic p-adic Rankin--Selberg L-function attached to a fixed Hecke eigenform and an imaginary quadratic field we introduce the second p-adic variable by considering Hida families of Hecke eigenforms parametrized by the weight.
In this article, we discuss Iwasawa Main Conjecture for $p$-adic families of elliptic modular cuspforms. After the overview on the situation of the ordinary case of Hida family, we will introduce a Coleman map for Coleman family for the non-ordinary case (Coleman family) which was obtained as a joint work with Filippo Nuccio [NO16] and we give some results on Iwasawa Theory for Coleman families as applications of . First, we give a construction of a two-variable $p$-adic $L$-function for a Coleman family thanks to the ingredients given in [NO16] (Theorem 5.1). Combining this result and Coleman…
A major theme in the theory of $p$-adic deformations of automorphic forms is how $p$-adic $L$-functions over eigenvarieties relate to the geometry of these eigenvarieties. In this article we prove results in this vein for the ordinary part of the eigencurve (i.e. Hida families). We address how Taylor expansions of one variable $p$-adic $L$-functions varying over families can detect "bad" geometric phenomena: crossing components of a certain intersection multiplicity and ramification over the weight space. Our methods involve proving a converse to a result of Vatsal relating congruences between…
Given a weight two modular form f with associated p-adic Galois representation V_f, for certain quadratic imaginary fields K one can construct canonical classes in the Galois cohomology of V_f by taking the Kummer images of Heegner points on the modular abelian variety attached to f. We show that these classes can be interpolated as f varies in a Hida family, and construct an Euler system of big Heegner points for Hida's universal ordinary deformation of V_f. We show that the specialization of this big Euler system to any form in the Hida family is nontrivial, extending results of Cornut and V…
We prove a result of the following type: given a Hida family of modular forms, if there exists a weight two form in the family whose L-function vanishes to exact order one at s=1, then all but finitely many weight two forms in the family enjoy this same property. The analogous result for order of vanishing zero is also true, and is an easy consequence of the existence of the Mazur-Kitagawa two-variable p-adic L-function.
The global deformation theory of residually reducible Galois representations with fixed auxiliary conditions is studied. We show that $\barρ:\operatorname{Gal}(\bar{\mathbb{Q}}/\mathbb{Q})\rightarrow \operatorname{GL}_2(\bar{\mathbb{F}}_p)$ lifts to a Hida line for which the weights range over a congruence class modulo-$p^2$. The advantage of the purely Galois theoretic approach is that it allows us to construct $p$-adic families of Galois representations lifting the actual representation $\barρ$, and not just the semisimplification.
In 2006, Fukaya and Kato formulated a general conjecture about $p$-adic $L$-functions for a large class of motives and derived a precise conjectural interpolation formula from the ETNC. We study this conjectural $p$-adic $L$-function in the setting of Hida families and compare it to the $p$-adic $L$-function constructed by Kitagawa. A priori it is not clear whether the interpolation formulas coincide, mainly because of the rather inexplicit definition of periods (via comparison isomorphisms) that appear in the general formula. Using $p$-adic Eichler-Shimura isomorphisms and their interpolation…
In this paper we prove one side divisibility of the Iwasawa-Greenberg main conjecture for Rankin-Selberg product of a weight two cusp form and an ordinary CM form of higher weight, using congruences between Klingen Eisenstein series and cusp forms on $\mathrm{GU}(3,1)$, generalizing earlier result of the third-named author to allow non-ordinary cusp forms. The main result is a key input in the third author's proof for Kobayashi's $\pm$-main conjecture for supersingular elliptic curves. The new ingredient here is developing a semi-ordinary Hida theory along an appropriate smaller weight space, …
Iwasawa theory of Heegner points on abelian varieties of GL_2 type has been studied by, among others, Mazur, Perrin-Riou, Bertolini and Howard. The purpose of this paper is to describe extensions of some of their results in which abelian varieties are replaced by the Galois cohomology of Deligne's p-adic representation attached to a modular form of even weight >2. In this setting, the role of Heegner points is played by higher-dimensional Heegner-type cycles that have been recently defined by Bertolini, Darmon and Prasanna. Our results should be compared with those obtained, via deformation-th…
We study the vanishing of $L(f,χ,j)$ as $f$ runs through all classical forms in a $p$-adic Hida family (including forms with arbitrarily high nebentype at $p$), $χ$ runs through all characters of $p$-power conductor, and $j$ is a critical value. We show that if infinitely many of these $L$-values vanish (apart from the ones forced to vanish by the sign of their functional equation) then this infinitude of vanishing must be exceptionally regular, so regular in fact that one can typically rule out this possibility in any given example. Indeed, we systematically verified that such regular vanishi…
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the number of classical weight one specializations of a non-CM ordinary Hida family of parallel weight Hilbert cusp forms. It is known that a specialization of a primitive ordinary Hida family at any arithmetic points of weight at least two is a classical holomorphic Hilbert cusp form. However, this is not always the case for weight one specializations. Balasubramanyam, Ghate and Vatsal proved that such a Hida family admits infinitely many classical weight one specializations if and only if it is of CM type. We give an explicit upper bound on the num…
Let $p\geq 5$ be a prime and $\ell\neq p$ be a prime not dividing the tame level of a $p$-ordinary Hida family. We prove that the actions of the Frobenius element at $\ell$ on the Galois representations attached to almost all arithmetic specializations are semisimple and non-scalar. If $k_f$ denotes the weight of a cusp form $f(z)= \sum_{n\geq 1} a_\ell(f) e^{2πi n z}$, then the inequality $$|a_\ell(f) | \leq 2 \ell^{(k_f-1)/2},$$ predicted by the Ramanujan conjecture, is a strict inequality for almost all members $f$ of the family.
We construct the $Λ$-adic crystalline and Dieudonné analogues of Hida's ordinary $Λ$-adic étale cohomology, and employ integral $p$-adic Hodge theory to prove $Λ$-adic comparison isomorphisms between these cohomologies and the $Λ$-adic de Rham cohomology studied in the prequel to this paper as well as Hida's $Λ$-adic étale cohomology. As applications of our work, we provide a "cohomological" construction of the family of $(φ,Γ)$-modules attached to Hida's ordinary $Λ$-adic étale cohomology by the work of Dee, and we give a new and purely geometric proof of Hida's finitenes and control theorems…
In [Pollack-Stevens 2011], efficient algorithms are given to compute with overconvergent modular symbols. These algorithms then allow for the fast computation of $p$-adic $L$-functions and have further been applied to compute rational points on elliptic curves (e.g. [Darmon-Pollack 2006, Trifković 2006]). In this paper, we generalize these algorithms to the case of families of overconvergent modular symbols. As a consequence, we can compute $p$-adic families of Hecke-eigenvalues, two-variable $p$-adic $L$-functions, $L$-invariants, as well as the shape and structure of ordinary Hida-Hecke alge…
We construct the three-variable p-adic triple product L-functions attached to Hida families of ellptic newforms and prove the explicit interpolation formulae at all critical specializations by establishing explicit Ichino's formulae for the trilinear period integrals of automorphic forms. Our formulae perfectly fit the conjectural shape of p-adic L-functions predicted by Coates and Perrin-Riou. As an application, we prove the factorization of certain unbalanced p-adic triple product L-functions into a product of anticyclotomic p-adic L-functions for modular forms. By this factorization, we giv…
Let p be an odd prime number. In this paper, we show existence of certain infinite families of imaginary quadratic fields in which p splits and whose Iwasawa λ-invariant of the cyclotomic Zp-extension is equal to 1.
We construct the $Λ$-adic de Rham analogue of Hida's ordinary $Λ$-adic étale cohomology and of Ohta's $Λ$-adic Hodge cohomology, and by exploiting the geometry of integral models of modular curves over the cyclotomic extension of $\mathbf{Q}_p$, we give a purely geometric proof of the expected finiteness, control, and $Λ$-adic duality theorems. Following Ohta, we then prove that our $Λ$-adic module of differentials is canonically isomorphic to the space of ordinary $Λ$-adic cuspforms. In the sequel to this paper, we construct the crystalline counterpart to Hida's ordinary $Λ$-adic étale cohomo…
Bertolini-Darmon and Mok proved a formula of the second derivative of the two-variable $p$-adic $L$-function of a modular elliptic curve over a totally real field along the Hida family in terms of the image of a global point by some $p$-adic logarithm map. The theory of $p$-adic indefinite integrals and $p$-adic multiplicative integrals on $p$-adic upper half planes plays an important role in their work. In this paper, we generalize these integrals for $p$-adic measures which are not necessarily $\mathbf{Z}$-valued, and prove a formula of the second derivative of the two-variable $p$-adic $L$-…
We extend a result of Greenberg and Stevens on the interpolation of modular symbols in Hida families to the context of non-split rational quaternion algebras. Both the definite case and the indefinite case are considered.
Let $p$ be a prime number. We show that, there exists an infinite family of imaginary abelian fields such that, the Iwasawa module of the maximal multiple ${\Bbb Z}_p$-extension is non trivial and pseudo-null for each field in the family. We also discuss on an application to non-abelian Iwasawa theory in the sense of Ozaki.
A result of Bleher, Chinburg, Greenberg, Kakde, Pappas, Sharifi and Taylor has initiated the topic of higher codimension Iwasawa theory. As a generalization of the classical Iwasawa main conjecture, they prove a relationship between analytic objects (a pair of Katz's $2$-variable $p$-adic $L$-functions) and algebraic objects (two "everywhere unramified'' Iwasawa modules) involving codimension two cycles in a $2$-variable Iwasawa algebra. We prove a result by considering the restriction to an imaginary quadratic field $K$ (where an odd prime $p$ splits) of an elliptic curve $E$, defined over $\…
Ming-Lun Hsieh constructed three-variable triple product p-adic L-functions attached to triples of primitive Hida families and proved interpolation formulas. We generalize his result in the unbalanced case and construct a three-variable triple product p-adic L-function attached to a primitive Hida family and two more general p-adic families of modular forms.
We show that Hida's families of $p$-adic elliptic modular forms generalize to $p$-adic families of Jacobi forms. We also construct $p$-adic versions of theta lifts from elliptic modular forms to Jacobi forms. Our results extend to Jacobi forms previous works by Hida and Stevens on the related case of half-integral weight modular forms.
In \citenospec{MR1097615} several spectral sequences for (global and local) Iwasawa modules over (not necessarily commutative) Iwasawa algebras (mainly of $p$-adic Lie groups) over $\Z_p$ are established, which are very useful for determining certain properties of such modules in arithmetic applications. Slight generalizations of said results can be found in \citenospec{MR2333680} (for abelian groups and more general coefficient rings), \citenospec{MR1924402} (for products of not necessarily abelian groups, but with $\Z_p$-coefficients), and \citenospec{MR3084561}. Unfortunately, some of Janns…
Let $p$ be an odd prime. We prove the cyclotomic Iwasawa Main Conjecture of K.Kato for the motive attached to an eigencuspform $f\in S_{k}(Γ_{0}(N))$ with arbitrary reduction type at $p$ under mild assumptions on the residual Galois representation $\barρ_{f}$. Under the same hypotheses, we also prove the generalized Iwasawa Main Conjecture for $p$-adic families of modular forms. The Iwasawa Main Conjecture for $f$ is deduced by a limit argument involving fundamental lines from a universal Iwasawa Main Conjecture over the universal deformation space of $\barρ_{f}$, which itself follows from the…
The theme of this work is the study of the Nekovář-Selmer group H^1_f(K,T) attached to a twisted Hida family T of Galois representations and a quadratic number field K. The results that we obtain have the following shape: if a twisted L-function of a suitable modular form in the Hida family has order of vanishing r at most 1 at the central critical point then the rank of H^1_f(K,T) as a module over a certain local Hida-Hecke algebra is equal to r. Under the above assumption, we also show that infinitely many twisted L-functions of modular forms in the Hida family have the same order of vanishi…
We construct Λ-adic de Rham and crystalline analogues of Hida's ordinary Λ-adic etale cohomology, and by exploiting the geometry of integral models of modular curves over the cyclotomic extension of \Q_p, we prove appropriate finiteness and control theorems in each case. We then employ integral p-adic Hodge theory to prove Λ-adic comparison isomorphisms between our cohomologies and Hida's etale cohomology. As applications of our work, we provide a "cohomological" construction of the family of (ϕ,Γ)-modules attached to Hida's ordinary Λ-adic etale cohomology by Dee, and we give a new and purely…
This note is devoted to the study of families of quaternionic modular forms arising from orders defined by Pizer. In this situation, the Hecke-eigenspaces are 2-dimensional contrary to the classical case of Eichler orders. The main result is a Control Theorem in the spirit of Hida, interpolating these 2-dimensional Hecke-eigenspaces. We restrict our attention to a definite rational quaternion algebra ramified at a single odd prime $\ell$.
Suppose that p > 5 is a rational prime. Starting from a well-known p-adic analytic family of ordinary elliptic cusp forms of level p due to Hida, we construct a certain p-adic analytic family of holomorphic Siegel cusp forms of arbitrary even genus and of level p associated with Hida's p-adic analytic family via the Duke-Imamoglu lifting provided by Ikeda. Moreover, we also give a similar results for the Siegel Eisenstein series of even genus with trivial Nebentypus.
Given a newform f, we extend Howard's results on the variation of Heegner points in the Hida family of f to a general quaternionic setting. More precisely, we build big Heegner points and big Heegner classes in terms of compatible families of Heegner points on towers of Shimura curves. The novelty of our approach, which systematically exploits the theory of optimal embeddings, consists in treating both the case of definite quaternion algebras and the case of indefinite quaternion algebras in a uniform way. We prove results on the size of Nekovář's extended Selmer groups attached to suitable bi…
This paper is a continuation of the author's previous work, where we studied the variation of the number of isomorphic classes of $G_{\mathbb{Q}}$-stable lattices in p-adic families of residually reducible ordinary Galois representations. In this paper, we study the number of isomorphic classes of $G_{\mathbb{Q}}$-stable free lattices in a residually reducible Hida deformation and the variation of their related two-variable algebraic $p$-adic $L$-functions. This result gives an answer of a question asked by Ochiai.
Suppose that p > 5 is a rational prime. Starting from a well-known p-adic analytic family of ordinary elliptic cusp forms of level p due to Hida, we construct a certain p-adic analytic family of holomorphic Siegel cusp forms of arbitrary even genus and of level p associated with Hida's p-adic analytic family via the Duke-Imamoglu lifting which has been established by Ikeda. Moreover, we also give a similar results for the Siegel Eisenstein series of even genus with trivial Nebentypus.
We develop a theory of $p$-adic automorphic forms on unitary groups that allows $p$-adic interpolation in families and holds for all primes $p$ that do not ramify in the reflex field $E$ of the associated unitary Shimura variety. If the ordinary locus is nonempty (a condition only met if $p$ splits completely in $E$), we recover Hida's theory of $p$-adic automorphic forms, which is defined over the ordinary locus. More generally, we work over the $μ$-ordinary locus, which is open and dense. By eliminating the splitting condition on $p$, our framework should allow many results employing Hida's …
Norm-compatible families of cohomology classes for Shimura varieties, and other arithmetic symmetric spaces, play an important role in Iwasawa theory of automorphic forms. The aim of this note is to give a systematic approach to proving "vertical" norm-compatibility relations for such classes (where the level varies at a fixed prime p), treating the case of Betti and étale cohomology at once, and revealing an unexpected relation to the theory of spherical varieties. This machinery can be used to construct many new examples of norm-compatible families, potentially giving rise to new constructio…
We develop a new strategy for studying low weight specializations of $p$-adic families of ordinary modular forms. In the elliptic case, we give a new proof of a result of Ghate--Vatsal which states that a Hida family contains infinitely many classical eigenforms of weight one if and only if it has complex multiplication. Our strategy is designed to explicitly avoid use of the related facts that the Galois representation attached to a classical weight one eigenform has finite image, and that classical weight one eigenforms satisfy the Ramanujan conjecture. We indicate how this strategy might be…
In this article, we prove an explicit Waldspurger formula for the toric Hilbert modular forms. As an application, we construct a class of anticyclotomic p-adic Rankin-Selberg L-functions for Hilbert modular forms, generalizing the construction of Bertolini, Darmon and Prasanna in the elliptic case. Moreover, building on works of Hida, we give a necessary and sufficient condition when the Iwasawa mu-invariant of this p-adic L-function vanishes and prove a result on the non-vanishing modulo $p$ of central Rankin-Selberg L-values with anticyclotomic twists.
Let $f$ be a newform of weight $2$, square-free level and trivial character, let $A_f$ be the abelian variety attached to $f$ and for every good ordinary prime $p$ for $f$ let $\boldsymbol f^{(p)}$ be the $p$-adic Hida family through $f$. We prove that, for all but finitely many primes $p$ as above, if $A_f$ is an elliptic curve such that $A_f(\mathbb Q)$ has rank $1$ and the $p$-primary part of the Shafarevich-Tate group of $A_f$ over $\mathbb Q$ is finite then all specializations of $\boldsymbol f^{(p)}$ of weight congruent to $2$ modulo $2(p-1)$ and trivial character have finite ($p$-primar…
