We give functorial recipes to get, out of any Hopf algebra over a field, two pairs of Hopf algebras which have some geometrical content. When the ground field has characteristic zero, the first pair is made by a function algebra over a connected Poisson group and a universal enveloping algebra over a Lie bialgebra. In addition, the Poisson group as a variety is an affine space, and the Lie bialgebra as a Lie algebra is graded. Forgetting these last details, the second pair is of the same type.
When the Hopf algebra H we start from is already of geometric type the result involves Poisson duality: the first Lie bialgebra associated to H = F[G] is g^* (with g := Lie(G)), and the first Poisson group H = U(g) is of type G^*, i.e. it has g as cotangent Lie bialgebra.
If the ground field has positive characteristic, then the same recipes give similar results, but for the fact that the Poisson groups obtained have dimension 0 and height 1, and restricted universal enveloping algebras are obtained.
We show how these "geometrical" Hopf algebras are linked to the original one via 1-parameter deformations, and explain how these results follow from quantum group theory. The cases of hyperalgebras and group algebras are examined in some detail (thus recovering some well-known, classical construction), along with some relevant examples.
We give a coring version for the duality theorem for actions and coactions of a finitely generated projective Hopf algebra. We also provide a coring analogue for a theorem of H.-J. Schneider, which generalizes and unifies the duality theorem for finite Hopf algebras and its refinements.
Let $H$ be an infinite-dimensional braided Hopf algebra and assume that the braiding is symmetric on $H$ and its quasi-dual $H^d$. We prove the Blattner-Montgomery duality theorem, namely we prove $$ (R # H)# H^{d} \cong R \otimes (H # H^{d}) \hbox {as algebras in braided tensor category} {\cal C}.$$ In particular, we present two duality theorems for infinite braided Hopf algebras in the Yetter-Drinfeld module category.
We explore special features of the pair (U^*, U_*) formed by the right and left dual over a (left) bialgebroid U in case the bialgebroid is, in particular, a left Hopf algebroid. It turns out that there exists a bialgebroid morphism S^* from one dual to another that extends the construction of the antipode on the dual of a Hopf algebra, and which is an isomorphism if U is both a left and right Hopf algebroid. This structure is derived from Phung's categorical equivalence between left and right comodules over U without the need of a (Hopf algebroid) antipode, a result which we review and extend…
We develop the Tannaka-Krein duality for monoidal functors with target in the categories of bimodules over a ring. The $\coend$ of such a functor turns out to be a Hopf algebroid over this ring. Using the result of a previous paper we characterize a small abelian, locally finite rigid monoidal category as the category of rigid comodules over a transitive Hopf algebroid.
We show that various cyclic and cocyclic modules attached to Hopf algebras and Hopf modules are related to each other via Connes' duality isomorphism for the cyclic category.
The duality between partial actions (partial $H$-module algebras) and co-actions (partial $H$-comodule algebras) of a Hopf algebra $H$ is fully explored in this work. A connection between partial (co)actions and Hopf algebroids is established under certain commutativity conditions. Moreover, we continue this duality study, introducing also partial $H$-module coalgebras and their associated $C$-rings, partial $H$-comodule coalgebras and their associated cosmash coproducts, as well as the mutual interrelations between these structures.
In this paper, we study the duality theory of Hopf $C^*$-algebras in a general ``Hilbert-space-free'' framework. Our particular interests are the ``full duality'' and the ``reduced duality''. In order to study the reduced duality, we define the interesting notion of Fourier algebra of a general Hopf $C^*$-algebra.
We introduce partial (co)actions of a Hopf algebra $H$ on an algebra. To this end, we introduce first the notion of lax coring, generalizing Wisbauer's notion of weak coring. We also have the dual notion of lax ring. Several duality results are given, and we develop Galois theory for partial $H$-comodule algebras.
Like quantum groups, quantum groupoids frequently appear in pairs of mutually dual objects. We develop a general Pontrjagin duality theory for quantum groupoids in the algebraic setting that extends Van Daele's duality theory for multiplier Hopf algebras and overcomes the finiteness restrictions of the approach of Kadison, Szlachányi, Böhm and Schauenburg. Our construction is based on the integration theory for multiplier Hopf algebroids and yields, as a corollary, a duality theory for weak multiplier Hopf algebras with integrals. We compute the duals in several examples and introduce morphism…
The Hopf order of an element $h$ of a Hopf algebra $H$ is the least $n$ such that the $n$-th Hopf power of $h$ is trivial. For some bismash product Hopf algebras obtained from factorizable groups (including Drinfeld doubles of some groups) we compute the dimensions of the spaces of elements with trivial $n$-th Hopf powers, and determine which Hopf orders of elements are possible. We discuss the behavior under twists and duality.
We classify graded Hopf algebras structures over path coalgebras, that is over free pointed coalgebras, using Hopf quivers which are analogous to Cayley graphs. The description involves formulas for the product besides the canonical formulas for the coproduct. This makes explicit the quantum shuffle product making use of natural elements in a Hopf bimodule having a simple "geometrical" interpretation in the quiver sense, rather than working systematically with right or left coinvariants.
The transfer of the generating operations of an algebra to a homotopy equivalent chain complex produces higher operations. The first goal of this paper is to describe precisely the higher structure obtained when the unary operations commute with the contracting homotopy. To solve this problem, we develop the Koszul duality theory of operads in the category of modules over a cocommutative Hopf algebra. This gives rise to a simpler category of homotopy algebras and infinity-morphisms, which allows us to get a new description of the homotopy category of algebras over such operads. The main exampl…
A fundamental feature of quantum groups is that many come in pairs of mutually dual objects, like finite-dimensional Hopf algebras and their duals, or quantisations of function algebras and of universal enveloping algebras of Poisson-Lie groups. The same phenomenon was studied for quantum groupoids in various settings. In the purely algebraic setup, the construction of a dual object was given by Schauenburg and by Kadison and Szlachányi, but required the quantum groupoid to be finite with respect to the base. A sophisticated duality for measured quantum groupoids was developed by Enock, Lesieu…
Some duality properties for induced representations of enveloping algebras involve the character $Trad_{\goth g}$. We extend them to deformation Hopf algebras $A_{h}$ of a noetherian Hopf $k$-algebra $A_{0}$ satistying $Ext^{i}_{A_{0}}(k, A_{0})=\{0\}$ except for $i=d$ where it is isomorphic to $k$. These duality properties involve the character of $A_{h}$ defined by right multiplication on the one dimensional free $k[[h]]$-module $Ext^{d}_{A_{h}} (k[[h]], A_{h})$. In the case of quantized enveloping algebras, this character lifts the character $Trad_{\goth g}$. We also prove Poincar{é} dualit…
A coaction of a Hopf algebra on a unital algebra is called homogeneous if the algebra of coinvariants equals the ground field. A coaction of a Hopf algebra on a (not necessarily unital) algebra is called Galois, or principal, or free, if the canonical map, also known as the Galois map, is bijective. In this paper, we establish a duality between a particular class of homogeneous coactions, up to equivariant Morita equivalence, and Galois coactions, up to isomorphism.
Associated to an Hadamard matrix $H\in M_N(\mathbb C)$ is the spectral measure $μ\in\mathcal P[0,N]$ of the corresponding Hopf image algebra, $A=C(G)$ with $G\subset S_N^+$. We study here a certain family of discrete measures $μ^r\in\mathcal P[0,N]$, coming from the idempotent state theory of $G$, which converge in Cesàro limit to $μ$. Our main result is a duality formula of type $\int_0^N(x/N)^pdμ^r(x)=\int_0^N(x/N)^rdν^p(x)$, where $μ^r,ν^r$ are the truncations of the spectral measures $μ,ν$ associated to $H,H^t$. We prove as well, using these truncations $μ^r,ν^r$, that for any deformed Fou…
We study generalised differential structures $Ω^1,d$ on an algebra $A$, where $A\tens A\to Ω^1$ given by $a\tens b\to a d b$ need not be surjective. The finite set case corresponds to quivers with embedded digraphs, the Hopf algebra left covariant case to pairs $(Λ^1,ω)$ where $Λ^1$ is a right module and $ω$ a right module map, and the Hopf algebra bicovariant case corresponds to morphisms $ω:A^+\to Λ^1$ in the category of right crossed (or Drinfeld-Radford-Yetter) modules over $A$. When $A=U(g)$ the generalised left-covariant differential structures are classified by cocycles $ω\in Z^1(g,Λ^1)…
In this paper we present solutions to the non-commutative geometrical version of the Yang-Mills-Scalar-Matter theory in the Hopf fibration using the $3D$--calculus.
An equivalence between Lu's bialgebroids, Xu's bialgebroids with an anchor and Takeuchi's $\times_{A}$-bialgebras is explicitly proven. A new class of examples of bialgebroids is constructed. A (formal) dual of a bialgebroid, termed bicoalgebroid, is defined. A weak Hopf algebra is shown to be an example of such a bicoalgebroid.
We analyze some relations between quasi-Hopf smash products and certain twisted tensor products of quasialgebras. Along the way we obtain also some results of independent interest, such as a duality theorem for finite dimensional quasi-Hopf algebras and a universal property for generalized diagonal crossed products.
We introduce Yetter-Drinfeld modules over a weak Hopf algebra $H$, and show that the category of Yetter-Drinfeld modules is isomorphic to the center of the category of $H$-modules. The categories of left-left, left-right, right-left and right-right Yetter-Drinfeld modules are isomorphic as braided monoidal categories. Yetter-Drinfeld modules can be viewed as weak Doi-Hopf modules, and, a fortiori, as weak entwined modules. If $H$ is finitely generated and projective, then we introduce the Drinfeld double using duality results between entwining structures and smash product structures, and show …
We find the Hopf algebra $U_{g,h}$ dual to the Jordanian matrix quantum group $GL_{g,h}(2)$. As an algebra it depends only on the sum of the two parameters and is split in two subalgebras: $U'_{g,h}$ (with three generators) and $U(Z)$ (with one generator). The subalgebra $U(Z)$ is a central Hopf subalgebra of $U_{g,h}$. The subalgebra $U'_{g,h}$ is not a Hopf subalgebra and its coalgebra structure depends on both parameters. We discuss also two one-parameter special cases: $g =h$ and $g=-h$. The subalgebra $U'_{h,h}$ is a Hopf algebra and coincides with the algebra introduced by Ohn as the dua…
In \cite{fl}, the authors get a new presentation of two-parameter quantum algebra $U_{v,t}(\mathfrak{g})$. Their presentation can cover all Kac-Moody cases. In this paper, we construct a suitable Hopf pairing such that $U_{v,t}(sl_{n})$ can be realized as Drinfeld double of certain Hopf subalgebras with respect to the Hopf pairing. Using Hopf pairing, we construct a $R$-matrix for $U_{v,t}(sl_{n})$ which will be used to give the Schur-Weyl dual between $U_{v,t}(sl_{n})$ and Hecke algebra $H_{k}(v,t)$. Furthermore, using the Fusion procedure we construct the primitive orthogonal idempotents of …
Partial actions of Hopf algebras can be considered as a generalization of partial actions of groups on algebras. Among important properties of partial Hopf actions, it is possible to prove the existence of enveloping actions, i.e., every partial Hopf action on a algebra A is induced by a Hopf action on a algebra B that contains A as a right ideal. This globalization theorem allows to extend several results from the theory of partial group actions to the Hopf algebraic setting. In this article, we prove a dual version of the globalization theorem: that every partial coaction of a Hopf algebra a…
A vector species is a functor from the category of finite sets with bijections to vector spaces (over a fixed field); informally, one can view this as a sequence of $S_n$-modules. A Hopf monoid (in the category of vector species) consists of a vector species with unit, counit, product, and coproduct morphisms satisfying several compatibility conditions, analogous to a graded Hopf algebra. A vector species has a basis if and only if it is given by a sequence of $S_n$-modules which are permutation representations. We say that a Hopf monoid is freely self-dual if it is connected and finite-dimens…
The Heisenberg double of a Hopf algebra may be regarded as a quantum analogue of the cotangent bundle of a Lie group. Quantum duality principle describes relations between a Hopf algebra, its dual, and their Heisenberg double in a way which extends both the theory of coadjoint orbits and the classical Fourier transform. We also describe the twisted Heisenberg double which is relevant for the study of nontrivial deformations of the quantized universal enveloping algebras.
Quantum duality principle is applied to study classical limits of quantum algebras and groups. For a certain type of Hopf algebras the explicit procedure to construct both classical limits is presented. The canonical forms of quantized Lie-bialgebras are proved to be two-parametric varieties with two classical limits called dual. When considered from the point of view of quantized symmetries such varieties can have boundaries that are noncommutative and noncocommutative. In this case the quantum duality and dual limits still exist while instead of Lie bialgebra one has a pair of tangent vector…
In braided tensor categories we show the Maschke's theorem and give the necessary and sufficient conditions for double cross biproducts and crossbiproducts and biproducts to be bialgebras. We obtain the factorization theorem for braided Hopf algebras; In symmetric tensor categories, we show the duality theorem and construct quantum double; In ordinary vector space category with ordinary twist, we obtain the relation between the global dimension, the weak dimension, the Jacbson radical, Baer radical of algebra $R$ and its crossed product $R #_σH$. We also give the relation between the decomposi…
We find a relation between two Hopf algebras built on rooted trees. The first is the Connes-Kreimer Hopf algebra H_R which describes a certain type of renormalization in quantum field theory; the second is the Grossman-Larson Hopf algebra A introduced ten years ago by some "differential" and combinatorial reasons. Roughly, the relation is the following: there exists a duality between these two Hopf algebras. We study then two natural operators on A, inspired by similar ones introduced by Connes and Kreimer for H_R.
The existence of dual structures in a Yangian Y(g) signify that the latter belongs to multidimensional naturally parametrized variety of Hopf algebras. These varieties have boundaries containing Yangians Y(a) inequivalent to the original Y(g). The new basic algebra $a$ is an algebra of the cotangent bundle attributed to the dual structure. We show how to construct such boundary Yangians and study some of their properties. We prove that the Hopf algebra Y(a) is a quantization of a parametric solution of the classical Yang-Baxter equation. The limiting procedure and the properties of the boundar…
For an action $α$ of a group $G$ on an algebra $R$ (over $\Bbb C$), the crossed product $R\times_αG$ is the vector space of $R$-valued functions with finite support in $G$, together with the twisted convolution product given by $$(ξη)(p) = \sum_{q \in G} ξ(q) α_q (η(q^{-1}p))$$ where $p\in G$. This construction has been extended to the theory of Hopf algebras. Given an action of a Hopf algebra $A$ on an algebra $R$, it is possible to make the tensor product $R\ot A$ into an algebra by using a twisted product, involving the action. In this case, the algebra is called the smash product and denot…
In this article we propose a new and so-called holomorphic deformation scheme for locally convex algebras and Hopf algebras. Essentially we regard converging power series expansion of a deformed product on a locally convex algebra, thus giving the means to actually insert complex values for the deformation parameter. Moreover we establish a topological duality theory for locally convex Hopf algebras. Examples coming from the theory of quantum groups are reconsidered within our holomorphic deformation scheme and topological duality theory. It is shown that all the standard quantum groups compri…
We give a detailed comparison between the notion of a weak Hopf algebra (also called a quantum groupoid by Nikshych and Vainerman), and that of a $\times_R$-bialgebra due to Takeuchi (and also called a bialgebroid or quantum (semi)groupoid by Lu and Xu). A weak bialgebra is the same thing as a $\times_R$-bialgebra in which $R$ is Frobenius-separable. We extend the comparison to cover module and comodule theory, duality, and the question when a bialgebroid should be called a Hopf algebroid.
We develop a general theory of Hopf image of a Hopf algebra representation, with the associated concept of inner faithful representation, modelled on the notion of faithful representation of a discrete group. We study several examples, including group algebras, enveloping algebras of Lie algebras, pointed Hopf algebras, function algebras, twistings and cotwistings, and we present a Tannaka duality formulation of the notion of Hopf image.
For a fixed finite group $Q$ and semi-simple finite dimensional algebra $S$, we examine an equivalence between strongly $Q$-graded algebras (extensions) with identity component $S$ and $S^1$-gerbes on action groupoids of $Q$ on the set of isomorphism classes of simple objects of the category of $S$-modules. This clarifies the nature of the map considered in arXiv:1312.7316. Motivated by this and arXiv:0909.3140(2) we suggest and study a notion of extensions suitable to the case when $S$ is replaced by a Hopf algebra, in the sense that there is a bijection between extensions with "fiber" $H$ an…
We show that the crossed modules and bicovariant different calculi on two Hopf algebras related by a cocycle twist are in 1-1 correspondence. In particular, for quantum groups which are cocycle deformation-quantisations of classical groups the calculi are obtained as deformation-quantisation of the classical ones. As an application, we classify all bicovariant differential calculi on the Planck scale Hopf algebra $\C[x]\bicross_{\hbar,\grav}\C[p]$. This is a quantum group which has an $\hbar\to 0$ limit as the functions on a classical but non-Abelian group and a $\grav\to 0$ limit as flat spac…
In this paper we establish a duality between etale Lie groupoids and a class of non-necessarily commutative algebras with a Hopf algebroid structure. For any etale Lie groupoid G over a manifold M, the groupoid algebra C_c(G) of smooth functions with compact support on G has a natural coalgebra structure over C_c(M) which makes it into a Hopf algebroid. Conversely, for any Hopf algebroid A over C_c(M) we construct the associated spectral etale Lie groupoid G_sp(A) over M such that G_sp(C_c(G)) is naturally isomorphic to G. Both these constructions are functorial, and C_c is fully faithful left…
Free Hopf modules and bimodules over a bialgebra are studied with some details. In particular, we investigate a duality in the category of bimodules in this context. This gives the correspondence between Woronowicz's quantum Lie algebra and algebraic vector fields.
The paper presents a detailed description of duality for braided algebras, coalgebras, bialgebras, Hopf algebras and their modules and comodules in the infinite setting. Assuming that the dual objects exist, it is shown how a given braiding induces compatible braidings for the dual objects, and how actions (resp. coactions) can be turned into coactions (resp. actions) of the dual coalgebra (resp. algebra), with an emphasis on braided bialgebras and their braided (co)module algebras.
We define a natural concept of duality for the h-Hopf algebroids introduced by Etingof and Varchenko. We prove that the special case of the trigonometric SL(2) dynamical quantum group is self-dual, and may therefore be viewed as a deformation both of the function algebra F(SL(2)) and of the enveloping algebra U(sl(2)). Matrix elements of the self-duality in the Peter-Weyl basis are 6j-symbols; this leads to a new algebraic interpretation of the hexagon identity or quantum dynamical Yang-Baxter equation for quantum and classical 6j-symbols.
We present a simple and intuitive framework for duality of locally compacts groups, which is not based on the Haar measure. This is a map, functorial on a non-degenerate subcategory, on the category of coinvolutive Hopf \cst-algebras, and a similar map on the category of coinvolutive Hopf-von Neumann algebras. In the \cst-version, this functor sends $C_0(G)$ to $C^*(G)$ and vice versa, for every locally compact group $G$. As opposed to preceding approaches, there is an explicit description of commutative and co-commutative algebras in the range of this map (without assumption of being isomorph…
We revisit the notion of interacting Frobenius Hopf algebras for ZX-calculus in quantum computing, with focus on allowing the algebras to be noncommutative and coalgebras to be noncocommutative. We introduce the notion of *-structures in ZX-calculus at this algebraic level and construct examples based on the quantum group u_q(sl_2) at a root of unity. We provide an abstract formulation of the Hadamard gate at this level and clarify its relationship to Hopf algebra self-duality. We then solve the problem of extending the notion of interacting Hopf algebras and ZX-calculus to take place in a bra…
Coactions of Hopf C*-bimodules simultaneously generalize coactions of Hopf C*-algebras and actions of groupoids. Following an approach of Baaj and Skandalis, we construct reduced crossed products and establish a duality for fine coactions. Examples of coactions arise from Fell bundles on groupoids and actions of a groupoid on bundles of C*-algebras. Continuous Fell bundles on an etale groupoid correspond to coactions of the reduced groupoid algebra, and actions of a groupoid on a continuous bundle of C*-algebras correspond to coactions of the function algebra.
We study the behavior of the Etingof-Kazhdan quantization functors under the natural duality operations of Lie bialgebras and Hopf algebras. In particular, we prove that these functors are "compatible with duality", i.e., they commute with the operation of duality followed by replacing the coproduct by its opposite. We then show that any quantization functor with this property also commutes with the operation of taking doubles. As an application, we show that the Etingof-Kazhdan quantization of some affine Lie superalgebras coincide with their Drinfeld-Jimbo-type quantizations.
This is an introduction to double algebras which is the structure modelled by the properties of the convolution product in Hopf algebras, weak Hopf algebras and in Hopf algebroids. We show that Hopf algebroids with a Frobenius integral can be characterized as the double algebras in which the two multiplications satisfy distributivity. We discuss questions of duality, antipode, Maschke theorem and examples.
The origin and interplay of products and dualities in algebraic (co)homology theories is ascribed to a $\times_A$-Hopf algebra structure on the relevant universal enveloping algebra. This provides a unified treatment for example of results by Van den Bergh about Hochschild (co)homology and by Huebschmann about Lie-Rinehart (co)homology.
We suggest a new generalization of Pontryagin duality from the category of Abelian locally compact groups to a category which includes all Moore groups, i.e. groups whose irreducible representations are finite-dimensional. Objects in this category are pro-C*-algebras with a structure of Hopf algebras (in the strict algebraic sense) with respect to a certain topological tensor product.
