The Hopf order of an element $h$ of a Hopf algebra $H$ is the least $n$ such that the $n$-th Hopf power of $h$ is trivial. For some bismash product Hopf algebras obtained from factorizable groups (including Drinfeld doubles of some groups) we compute the dimensions of the spaces of elements with trivial $n$-th Hopf powers, and determine which Hopf orders of elements are possible. We discuss the behavior under twists and duality.
We prove that all irreducible representations of the bismash product $H = \mathbb{k} ^G \# \mathbb{k} S_{n-k}$ have Frobenius-Schur indicators +1 or 0 where $\mathbb{k}$ is an algebraically closed field and $S_n = S_{n-k}\cdot G$ is an exact factorization. Moreover, we have an description of those simple modules which are not self-dual. We prove some new results for bismash products in general and make conjectures about bismash products that arise from other exact factorizations of $S_n$.
We introduce Brauer characters for representations of the bismash products of groups in characteristic p > 0, p not 2 and study their properties analogous to the classical case of finite groups. We then use our results to extend to bismash products a theorem of Thompson on lifting Frobenius-Schur indicators from characteristic p to characteristic 0
We study the representations and their Frobenius-Schur indicators of two semisimple Hopf algebras related to the symmetric group $S_n$, namely the bismash products $H_n = k^{C_n}# kS_{n-1}$ and its dual $J_n = k^{S_{n-1}}# kC_n = (H_n)^*,$ where $k$ is an algebraically closed field of characteristic 0. Both algebras are constructed using the standard representation of $S_n$ as a factorizable group, that is $S_n = S_{n-1}C_n = C_nS_{n-1}$. We prove that for $H_n$, the indicators of all simple modules are +1. For the dual Hopf algebra $J_n = k^{S_{n_1}}# kC_n$, the indicator can have values eith…
We calculate Frobenius-Schur indicator values for some fusion categories obtained from inclusions of finite groups $H\subset G$, where more concretely $G$ is symmetric or alternating, and $H$ is a symmetric, alternating or cyclic group. Our work is strongly related to earlier results by Kashina-Mason-Montgomery, Jedwab-Montgomery, and Timmer for bismash product Hopf algebras obtained from exact factorizations of groups. We can generalize some of their results, settle some open questions and offer shorter proofs; this already pertains to the Hopf algebra case, while our results also cover fusio…

We give some general results on the ring structure of Hochschild cohomology of smash products of algebras with Hopf algebras. We compute this ring structure explicitly for a large class of finite dimensional Hopf algebras of rank one.
Given a weak distributive law between algebras underlying two weak bialgebras, we present sufficient conditions under which the corresponding weak wreath product algebra becomes a weak bialgebra with respect to the tensor product coalgebra structure. When the weak bialgebras are weak Hopf algebras, then the same conditions are shown to imply that the weak wreath product becomes a weak Hopf algebra, too. Our sufficient conditions are capable to describe most known examples, (in particular the Drinfel'd double of a weak Hopf algebra).
The link relation on simple subcoalgebras is used for decompositions of coalgebras. In this paper, we provide more sufficient conditions for this link relation, and prove a formula on the products between link-indecomposable components of Hopf algebras with the dual Chevalley property. Furthermore, we show that each of its component is generated by a simple subcoalgebra, as a faithfully flat module (in fact, a projective generator) over a Hopf subalgebra which is the component containing the unit element. Our conclusions generalize some relevant results on pointed Hopf algebras, which were est…
We introduce the Hom-analogue of the L-R-smash product and use it to define the Hom-analogue of the diagonal crossed product. When H is a finite dimensional Hom-Hopf algebra with bijective antipode and bijective structure map, we define the Drinfeld double of H; its algebra structure is a Hom-diagonal crossed product and it has all expected properties, namely it is quasitriangular and modules over it coincide with left-right Yetter-Drinfeld modules over H.
A pseudo-Galois extension is shown to be a depth two extension. Studying its left bialgebroid, we construct an enveloping Hopf algebroid for the semi-direct product of groups, or more generally involutive Hopf algebras, and their module algebras. It is a type of cofibered sum of two inclusions of the Hopf algebra into the semi-direct product and its derived right crossed product. Van Oystaeyen and Panaite observe that this Hopf algebroid is non-trivially isomorphic to a Connes-Moscovici Hopf algebroid, which raises interesting comparative questions.
We compare the restriction to the context of weak Hopf algebras of the notion of crossed product with a Hopf algebroid introduced in \cite{BB} with the notion of crossed product with a weak Hopf algebra introduced in~\cite{AG}
The unified product was defined in \cite{am3} related to the restricted extending structure problem for Hopf algebras: a Hopf algebra $E$ factorizes through a Hopf subalgebra $A$ and a subcoalgebra $H$ such that $1\in H$ if and only if $E$ is isomorphic to a unified product $A \ltimes H$. Using the concept of normality of a morphism of coalgebras in the sense of Andruskiewitsch and Devoto we prove an equivalent description for the unified product from the point of view of split morphisms of Hopf algebras. A Hopf algebra $E$ is isomorphic to a unified product $A \ltimes H$ if and only if there …
We classify graded Hopf algebras structures over path coalgebras, that is over free pointed coalgebras, using Hopf quivers which are analogous to Cayley graphs. The description involves formulas for the product besides the canonical formulas for the coproduct. This makes explicit the quantum shuffle product making use of natural elements in a Hopf bimodule having a simple "geometrical" interpretation in the quiver sense, rather than working systematically with right or left coinvariants.
For a semisimple quasi-triangular Hopf algebra $\left( H,R\right) $ over a field $k$ of characteristic zero, and a strongly separable quantum commutative $H$-module algebra $A$ over which the Drinfeld element of $H$ acts trivially, we show that $A\#H$ is a weak Hopf algebra, and it can be embedded into a weak Hopf algebra $\operatorname{End}A^{\ast}\otimes H$. With these structure, $_{A\#H}\operatorname{Mod}$ is the monoidal category introduced by Cohen and Westreich, and $_{\operatorname{End}A^{\ast}\otimes H}\mathcal{M}$ is tensor equivalent to $_{H}\mathcal{M}$. If $A$ is in the M{ü}ger cen…
In this paper we continue the study started recently in \cite{ABMbp} by describing and classifying all Hopf algebras $E$ that factorize through two Sweedler's Hopf algebras. Equivalently, we classify all bicrossed products $H_4 \bowtie H_4$. There are three steps in our approach. First, we explicitly describe the set of all matched pairs $(H_4, H_4, \triangleright, \triangleleft)$ by proving that, with the exception of the trivial pair, this set is parameterized by the ground field $k$. Then, for any $λ\in k$, we describe by generators and relations the associated bicrossed product, \mathcal{H…
Let $G$ be a group which admits a generating set consisting of finite order elements. We prove that any Hopf algebra which factorizes through the Taft algebra and the group Hopf algebra $K[G]$ (equivalently, any bicrossed product between the aforementioned Hopf algebras) is isomorphic to a smash product between the same two Hopf algebras. The classification of these smash products is shown to be strongly linked to the problem of describing the group automorphisms of $G$. As an application, we completely describe by generators and relations and classify all bicrossed products between the Taft a…
We studied both the double cross product and the bicrossproduct constructions for the Hom-Hopf algebras of general $(α,β)$-type. This allows us to consider the universal enveloping Hom-Hopf algebras of Hom-Lie algebras, which are of $(α,{\rm Id})$-type. We show that the universal enveloping Hom-Hopf algebras of a matched pair of Hom-Lie algebras form a matched pair of Hom-Hopf algebras. We observe also that, the semi-dualization of a double cross product Hom-Hopf algebra is a bicrossproduct Hom-Hopf algebra. In particular, we apply this result to the universal enveloping Hom-Hopf algebras of a…
Many related products and coproducts (e.g. Hadamard, Cauchy, Kronecker, induction, internal, external, Solomon, composition, Malvenuto-Reutenauer, convolution, etc.) have been defined in the following objects : species, representations of the symmetric groups, symmetric functions, endomorphisms of graded connected Hopf algebras, permutations, non-commutative symmetric functions, quasi-symmetric functions, etc. With the purpose of simplifying and unifying this diversity we introduce yet, another -non graded- product the Heisenberg product, that for the highest and lowest degrees produces the cl…
Let $A$ and $H$ be two Hopf algebras. We shall classify up to an isomorphism that stabilizes $A$ all Hopf algebras $E$ that factorize through $A$ and $H$ by a cohomological type object ${\mathcal H}^{2} (A, H)$. Equivalently, we classify up to a left $A$-linear Hopf algebra isomorphism, the set of all bicrossed products $A \bowtie H$ associated to all possible matched pairs of Hopf algebras $(A, H, \triangleleft, \triangleright)$ that can be defined between $A$ and $H$. In the construction of ${\mathcal H}^{2} (A, H)$ the key role is played by special elements of $CoZ^{1} (H, A) \times \Aut_{\…
Let A be a Hopf algebra and H a coalgebra. We shall describe and classify up to an isomorphism all Hopf algebras E that factorize through A and H: that is E is a Hopf algebra such that A is a Hopf subalgebra of E, H is a subcoalgebra in E with 1_{E} \in H and the multiplication map $A\otimes H \to E$ is bijective. The tool we use is a new product, we call it the unified product, in the construction of which A and H are connected by three coalgebra maps: two actions and a generalized cocycle. Both the crossed product of an Hopf algebra acting on an algebra and the bicrossed product of two Hopf …
The notions of a cleft extension and a cross product with a Hopf algebroid are introduced and studied. In particular it is shown that an extension (with a Hopf algebroid $H= (H_L,H_R)$) is cleft if and only if it is $H_R$-Galois and has a normal basis property relative to the base ring $L$ of $H_L$. Cleft extensions are identified as crossed products with invertible cocycles. The relationship between the equivalence classes of crossed products and gauge transformations is established. Strong connections in cleft extensions are classified and sufficient conditions are derived for the Chern-Galo…
For a given Hopf algebra $A$ we classify all Hopf algebras $E$ that are coalgebra split extensions of $A$ by $H_4$, where $H_4$ is the Sweedler's 4-dimensional Hopf algebra. Equivalently, we classify all crossed products of Hopf algebras $A # H_4$ by computing explicitly two classifying objects: the cohomological 'group' ${\mathcal H}^{2} (H_4, A)$ and $\textsc{C}\textsc{r}\textsc{p} (H_4, A) :=$ the set of types of isomorphisms of all crossed products $A # H_4$. All crossed products $A #H_4$ are described by generators and relations and classified: they are parameterized by the set ${\mathcal…
The characterization of $H$-prime radical is given in many ways. Meantime, the relations between the radical of smash product $R # H$ and the $H$-radical of Hopf module algebra $R$ are obtained.
Motivated by partial group actions on unital algebras, in this article we extend many results obtained by Exel and Dokuchaev to the context of partial actions of Hopf algebras, according to Caenepeel and Jansen. First, we generalize the theorem about the existence of an enveloping action, also known as the globalization theorem. Second, we construct a Morita context between the partial smash product and the smash product related to the enveloping action. Third, we dualize the globalization theorem to partial coactions and finally, we define partial representations of Hopf algebras and show som…
In this work we investigate partial actions of a Hopf algebra H on nonunital algebras and the associated partial smash products. We show that our partial actions correspond to nonunital algebras in the category of partial representations of H. The central problem of existence of a globalization for a partial action is studied in detail, and we provide sufficient conditions for the existence (and uniqueness) of a minimal globalization for associative algebras in general. Extending previous results by Abadie, Dokuchaev, Exel and Simon, we define Morita equivalence for partial Hopf actions, and w…
In this work, the notion of a twisted partial Hopf action is introduced as a unified approach for twisted partial group actions, partial Hopf actions and twisted actions of Hopf algebras. The conditions on partial cocycles are established in order to construct partial crossed products, which are also related to partially cleft extensions of algebras. Examples are elaborated using algebraic groups.
We review the developments in the Lie theory for non-associative products from 2000 to date and describe the current understanding of the subject in view of the recent works, many of which use non-associative Hopf algebras as the main tool.
A family of algebra maps $H\to A_i$ whose common domain is a Hopf algebra is said to be jointly inner faithful if it does not factor simultaneously through a proper Hopf quotient of $H$. We show that tensor and free products of jointly inner faithful maps of Hopf algebras are again jointly inner faithful, generalizing a number of results in the literature on torus generation of compact quantum groups.
We analyze some relations between quasi-Hopf smash products and certain twisted tensor products of quasialgebras. Along the way we obtain also some results of independent interest, such as a duality theorem for finite dimensional quasi-Hopf algebras and a universal property for generalized diagonal crossed products.
Let H be a Hopf algebra and let B be a Koszul H-module algebra. We provide necessary and sufficient conditions for a filtered algebra to be a Poincare-Birkhoff-Witt (PBW) deformation of the smash product algebra B#H. Many examples of these deformations are given.
Let $A$ and $B$ be algebras and coalgebras in a braided monoidal category $\Cc$, and suppose that we have a cross product algebra and a cross coproduct coalgebra structure on $A\ot B$. We present necessary and sufficient conditions for $A\ot B$ to be a bialgebra, and sufficient conditions for $A\ot B$ to be a Hopf algebra. We discuss when such a cross product Hopf algebra is a double cross (co)product, a biproduct, or, more generally, a smash (co)product Hopf algebra. In each of these cases, we provide an explicit description of the associated Hopf algebra projection.
For a finite dimensional Hopf algebra we show that an associated natural inclusion of infinite crossed products is the crossed product by the Drinfeld double, and that this is a characterisation of the double.
The main properties of the crossed product in the category of Hopf algebras are investigated. Let $A$ and $H$ be two Hopf algebras connected by two morphism of coalgebras $\triangleright : H\ot A \to A$, $f:H\ot H\to A$. The crossed product $A #_{f}^{\triangleright} H$ is a new Hopf algebra containing $A$ as a normal Hopf subalgebra. Furthermore, a Hopf algebra $E$ is isomorphic as a Hopf algebra to a crossed product of Hopf algebras $A #_{f}^{\triangleright} H$ if and only if $E$ factorizes through a normal Hopf subalgebra $A$ and a subcoalgebra $H$ such that $1_{E} \in H$. The universality o…
We prove a structure theorem for Yetter-Drinfel'd Hopf algebras over groups of prime order that are nontrivial, cocommutative, and cosemisimple: Under certain assumptions on the base field, these algebras can be decomposed into a tensor product of the dual group ring of the group of prime order and an ordinary group ring of some other group. This tensor product is a crossed product as an algebra and an ordinary tensor product as a coalgebra. In particular, the dimension of such a Yetter-Drinfel'd Hopf algebra is divisible by the prime under consideration. We also find explicit examples of such…
In this paper we introduce generalizations of diagonal crossed products, two-sided crossed products and two-sided smash products, for a quasi-Hopf algebra H. The results we obtain may be applied to H^*-Hopf bimodules and generalized Yetter-Drinfeld modules. The generality of our situation entails that the "generating matrix" formalism cannot be used, forcing us to use a different approach. This pays off because as an application we obtain an easy conceptual proof of an important but very technical result of Hausser and Nill concerning iterated two-sided crossed products.
For a commutative algebra the shuffle product is a morphism of complexes. We generalize this result to the quantum shuffle product, associated to a class of non-commutative algebras (for example all the Hopf algebras). As a first application we show that the Hochschild-Serre identity is the dual statement of our result. In particular, we extend this identity to Hopf algebras. Secondly, we clarify the construction of a class of quasi-Hopf algebras.
Let H be a finite-dimensional Hopf algebra. We give a description of the tensor product of bimodule categories over Rep(H). When the bimodule categories are invertible this description can be given explicitly. We present some consequences of this description in the case H is a pointed Hopf algebra.
The notion of crossed product by a coquasi-bialgebra H is introduced and studied. The resulting crossed product is an algebra in the monoidal category of right H-comodules. We give an interpretation of the crossed product as an action of a monoidal category. In particular, necessary and sufficient conditions for two crossed products to be equivalent are provided. Then, two structure theorems for coquasi Hopf modules are given. First, these are relative Hopf modules over the crossed product. Second, the category of coquasi-Hopf modules is trivial, namely equivalent to the category of modules ov…
We introduce a more general version of the so-called L-R-smash product and study its relations with other kinds of crossed products (two-sided smash and crossed product and diagonal crossed product). We also give an interpretation of the L-R-smash product in terms of an L-R-twisting datum.
Given a Hopf algebra A, there exist various cohomology theories for the category of Hopf bimodules over A, introduced by M. Gerstenhaber and S.D. Schack, and by C. Ospel. We prove, when A is finite dimensional, that they are equal to the Ext functor on the module category of an associative algebra associated to A, described by C. Cibils and M. Rosso. We also give an expression for a cup-product in the cohomology defined by C. Ospel, and prove that it corresponds to the Yoneda product of extensions.
The quasi-shuffle product and mixable shuffle product are both generalizations of the shuffle product and have both been studied quite extensively recently. We relate these two generalizations and realize quasi-shuffle product algebras as subalgebras of mixable shuffle product algebras. As an application, we obtain Hopf algebra structures in free Rota-Baxter algebras.
If H is a finite dimensional Hopf algebra, C. Cibils and M. Rosso found an algebra X having the property that Hopf bimodules over H^* coincide with left X-modules. We find two other algebras, Y and Z, having the same property; namely, Y is the "two-sided crossed product" H^*#(H\otimes H^{op})# H^{* op} and Z is the "diagonal crossed product" (H^*\otimes H^{*op})\bowtie (H\otimes H^{op}) (both concepts are due to F. Hausser and F. Nill). We also find explicit isomorphisms between the algebras X, Y, Z.
We construct cup products of two different kinds for Hopf-cyclic cohomology. When the Hopf algebra reduces to the ground field our first cup product reduces to Connes' cup product in ordinary cyclic cohomology. The second cup product generalizes Connes-Moscovici's characteristic map for actions of Hopf algebras on algebras.
We construct a Hopf action, with an invariant trace, of a bicrossed product Hopf algebra $\cH=\big( \cU(\Fg_1) \acr \cR(G_2) \big)^{\cop}$ constructed from a matched pair of Lie groups $G_1$ and $G_2$, on a convolution algebra $\cA=C_c^{\ify}(G_1)\rtimes G_2^δ$. We give an explicit way to construct Hopf cyclic cohomology classes of our Hopf algebra $\cH$ and then realize these classes in terms of explicit representative cocycles in the cyclic cohomology of the convolution algebra $\cA$.
Definitions of actions of Hopf quasigroups are discussed in the context of Long dimodules and smash products. In particular, Long dimodules are defined for Hopf quasigroups and coquasigroups, and solutions to Militaru's D-equation are constructed. A necessary compatibility condition between action and multiplication of a Hopf quasigroup acting on its quasimodule Hopf quasigroup for a smash product construction is derived.
We study the non-abelian Hopf cohomology theory of Radford products with coefficients in a comodule algebra. We show that these sets can be expressed in terms of the non-abelian Hopf cohomology theory of each factor of the Radford product. We write down an exact sequence relating these objects. This allows to compute explicitly the non-abelian Hopf cohomology sets in large classes of examples.
We show that when a co-involutive Hopf C*-algebra $S$ coacts via $δ$ on a C*-algebra $A$, there exists a full crossed product $A\times_δS$, with universal properties analogous to those of full crossed products by locally compact groups. The dual Hopf C*-algebra is then defined by $\hat S:={\Bbb C}\times_{\id} S$.
In this paper we introduce the notion of partial action of a weak Hopf algebra on algebras, unifying the notions of partial group action [11], partial Hopf action ([2],[3],[9]) and partial groupoid action [4]. We construct the fundamental tools to develop this new subject, namely, the partial smash product and the globalization of a partial action, as well as, we establish a connection between partial and global smash products via the construction of a surjective Morita context. In particular, in the case that the globalization is unital, these smash products are Morita equivalent. We show tha…
We consider a pair of independent scalar products, one scalar product on vectors, and another independent scalar product on dual space of co-vectors. The Clifford co-product of multivectors is calculated from the dual Clifford algebra. With respect to this co-product unit is not group-like and vectors are not primitive. The Clifford product and the Clifford co-product fits to the bi-gebra with respect to the family of the (pre)-braids. The Clifford bi-gebra is in a braided category iff at least one of these scalar products vanish.
We use stable anti Yetter-Drinfeld contramodules to improve the cup products in Hopf cyclic cohomology. The improvement fixes the lack of functoriality of the cup products previously defined and show that the cup products are sensitive to the coefficients.
