For a commutative algebra the shuffle product is a morphism of complexes. We generalize this result to the quantum shuffle product, associated to a class of non-commutative algebras (for example all the Hopf algebras). As a first application we show that the Hochschild-Serre identity is the dual statement of our result. In particular, we extend this identity to Hopf algebras. Secondly, we clarify the construction of a class of quasi-Hopf algebras.
The Poisson algebra $\mathfrak h$ of invariants of the Nambu-Goto string, which was first introduced by K. Pohlmeyer in 1982, is described using the Shuffle Hopf algebra. In particular, an underlying auxiliary Lie algebra is reformulated in terms of the image of the first Eulerian idempotent of the Shuffle Hopf algebra. This facilitates the comparison of different approaches to the quantization of $\mathfrak h$.
The quasi-shuffle product and mixable shuffle product are both generalizations of the shuffle product and have both been studied quite extensively recently. We relate these two generalizations and realize quasi-shuffle product algebras as subalgebras of mixable shuffle product algebras. As an application, we obtain Hopf algebra structures in free Rota-Baxter algebras.
We compute the Hochschild and Gerstenhaber-Schack cohomological dimensions of the universal cosovereign Hopf algebras, when the matrix of parameters is a generic asymmetry. Our main tools are considerations on the cohomologies of free product of Hopf algebras, and on the invariance of the cohomological dimensions under graded twisting by a finite abelian group.
A recent result of ours [GM] shows that all Hopf algebra liftings of a given diagram in the sense of Andruskiewitsch and Schneider are cocycle deformations of each other. Here we develop a "non-abelian" cohomology theory, which gives a method for an explicit description of cocycles relevant to the lifting process.
The operator valued distributions which arise in quantum field theory on the noncommutative Minkowski space can be symbolized by a generalization of chord diagrams, the dotted chord diagrams. In this framework, the combinatorial aspects of quasiplanar Wick products are understood in terms of the shuffle Hopf algebra of dotted chord diagrams, leading to an algebraic characterization of quasiplanar Wick products as a convolution. Moreover, it is shown that the distributions do not provide a weight system for universal knot invariants.
Given a locally finite graded set A and a commutative, associative operation on A that adds degrees, we construct a commutative multiplication * on the set of noncommutative polynomials in A which we call a quasi-shuffle product; it can be viewed as a generalization of the shuffle product. The resulting commutative algebra can be given the structure of a Hopf algebra (_A_,*,Delta). In the case where A is the set of positive integers and the operation on A is addition, (_A_,*,Delta) is the Hopf algebra of quasi-symmetric functions. If rational coefficients are allowed, there is a Hopf algebra i…
We discuss the question of whether the global dimension is a monoidal invariant for Hopf algebras, in the sense that if two Hopf algebras have equivalent monoidal categories of comodules, then their global dimensions should be equal. We provide several positive new answers to this question, under various assumptions of smoothness, cosemisimplicity or finite dimension. We also discuss the comparison between the global dimension and the Gerstenhaber-Schack cohomological dimension in the cosemisimple case, obtaining equality in the case the latter is finite. One of our main tools is the new conce…
We investigate a Hopf algebra structure on the cotensor coalgebra associated to a Hopf bimodule algebra which contains universal version of Clifford algebras and quantum groups as examples. It is shown to be the bosonization of the quantum quasi-shuffle algebra built on the space of its right coinvariants. The universal property and a Rota-Baxter algebra structure are established on this new algebra.
We propose a variant to the Etingof-Kazhdan construction of quantization functors. We construct the twistor J_Φassociated to an associator Φusing cohomological techniques. We then introduce a criterion ensuring that the ``left Hopf algebra'' of a quasitriangular QUE algebra is flat. We prove that this criterion is satisfied at the universal level. This provides a construction of quantization functors, equivalent to the Etingof-Kazhdan construction.
We show that the Gerstenhaber-Schack cohomology of a Hopf algebra determines its Hochschild cohomology, and in particular its Gerstenhaber-Schack cohomological dimension bounds its Hochschild cohomological dimension, with equality of the dimensions when the Hopf algebra is cosemisimple of Kac type. Together with some general considerations on free Yetter-Drinfeld modules over adjoint Hopf subalgebras and the monoidal invariance of Gerstenhaber-Schack cohomology, this is used to show that both Gerstenhaber-Schack and Hochschild cohomological dimensions of the coordinate algebra of the quantum p…
In this report we give an intrinsic treatment of the results we developed in a previous work connecting the differential calculi on Hopf algebras to the Drinfeld double. In the first place we recover that bicovariant bimodules are in one to one correspondence with the Drinfeld double representations; we then introduce a Hochschild cohomology of the algebra of functions and discuss the main result stating that each differential calculus is associated to a 1-cocycle satisfying an additional invariance condition with respect to a natural action. Defining a Hochschild cohomology of the double, the…
We introduce and study non-abelian cohomology sets of Hopf algebras with coefficients in Hopf comodule algebras. We prove that these sets generalize as well Serre's non-abelian group cohomology theory as the cohomological theory constructed by the authors in a previous article. We establish their functoriality and compute explicit examples. Further we classify Hopf torsors.
Rota-Baxter algebras and the closely related dendriform algebras have important physics applications, especially to renormalization of quantum field theory. Braided structures provide effective ways of quantization such as for quantum groups. Continuing recent study relating the two structures, this paper considers Rota-Baxter algebras and dendriform algebras in the braided contexts. Applying the quantum shuffle and quantum quasi-shuffle products, we construct free objects in the categories of braided Rota-Baxter algebras and braided dendriform algebras, under the commutativity condition. We f…
In this article, we study the multi-parameter quantum groups defined by generators and relations associated with symmetrizable generalized Cartan matrices, together with their representations in the category $\mathcal O$. This presentation will be convenient for our later discussions. We present two explicit descriptions here: as a Hopf 2-cocycle deformation, and as the multi-parameter quantum shuffle realization of the positive part.
We consider finite-dimensional Hopf algebras $u$ which admit a smooth deformation $U\to u$ by a Noetherian Hopf algebra $U$ of finite global dimension. Examples of such Hopf algebras include small quantum groups over the complex numbers, restricted enveloping algebras in finite characteristic, and Drinfeld doubles of height $1$ group schemes. We provide a means of analyzing (cohomological) support for representations over such $u$, via the singularity categories of the hypersurfaces $U/(f)$ associated to functions $f$ on the corresponding parametrization space. We use this hypersurface approac…
An internal coproduct is described, which is compatible with Hoffman's quasi-shuffle product. Hoffman's quasi-shuffle Hopf algebra, with deconcatenation coproduct, is a comodule-Hopf algebra over the bialgebra thus defined. The relation with J. Ecalle's mould calculus, i.e. mould composition and contracting arborification, is precised.
We classify graded Hopf algebras structures over path coalgebras, that is over free pointed coalgebras, using Hopf quivers which are analogous to Cayley graphs. The description involves formulas for the product besides the canonical formulas for the coproduct. This makes explicit the quantum shuffle product making use of natural elements in a Hopf bimodule having a simple "geometrical" interpretation in the quiver sense, rather than working systematically with right or left coinvariants.
To any field K of characteristic 0, we associate a set Sha(K). Elements of Sha(K) are equivalence classes of families of Lie polynomials subject to associativity relations. We construct an injection and a retraction between Sha(K) and the set of quantization functors of Lie bialgebras over K. This construction involves the following steps. 1) To each element \varpi of Sha(K), we associate a functor g\mapsto Sh(g) from the category of Lie algebras to that of Hopf algebras; Sh(g) contains Ug. 2) When g and h are Lie algebras, and r_{gh} \in g\otimes h, we construct an element R(r_{gh}) of Sh(g)\…
We relate shuffle algebras, as defined by Nichols, Feigin-Odesskii and Rosso, to perverse sheaves on symmetric products of the complex line (i.e., on the spaces of monic polynomials stratified by multiplicities of roots). More precisely, we construct an equivalence between: (i) Braided Hopf algebras of a certain type. (ii) Factorizable collections of perverse sheaves on all the symmetric products. Under this eqiuvalence, the Nichols algebra associated to an object V corresponds to the collection of the intersection cohomology extensions of the local systems on the open configuration spaces ass…
The real multiple zeta values $ζ(k_1,\ldots,k_r)$ are known to form a ${\bf Q}$-algebra; they satisfy a pair of well-known families of algebraic relations called the double shuffle relations. In order to study the algebraic properties of multiple zeta values, one can replace them by formal symbols $Z(k_1,\ldots,k_r)$ subject only to the double shuffle relations. These form a graded Hopf algebra over ${\bf Q}$, and quotienting this algebra by products, one obtains a vector space. A difficult theorem due to G. Racinet proves that this vector space carries the structure of a Lie coalgebra; in fac…
Consider the coradical filtrations of the Hopf algebras of planar binary trees of Loday and Ronco and of permutations of Malvenuto and Reutenauer. We give explicit isomorphisms showing that the associated graded Hopf algebras are dual to the cocommutative Hopf algebras introduced in the late 1980's by Grossman and Larson. These Hopf algebras are constructed from ordered trees and heap-ordered trees, respectively. These results follow from the fact that whenever one starts from a Hopf algebra that is a cofree graded coalgebra, the associated graded Hopf algebra is a shuffle Hopf algebra.
In a previous paper the authors constructed a class of quasi-Hopf algebras $D^ω(G, A)$ associated to a finite group $G$, generalizing the twisted quantum double construction. We gave necessary and sufficient conditions, cohomological in nature, that the corresponding module category $Rep(D^ω(G, A))$ is a modular tensor category.\ In the present paper we verify the cohomological conditions for the class of groups $G$ which \emph{contain a unique involution}, and in this way we obtain an explicit construction of a new class of modular quasi-Hopf algebras.\ We develop the basic theory for general…
We construct rank varieties for the Drinfel'd double of the Taft algebra and for U_q(sl2). For the Drinfel'd double when n=2 this uses a result which identifies a family of subalgebras that control projectivity of A-modules whenever A is a Hopf algebra satisfying a certain homological condition. In this case we show that our rank variety is homeomorphic to the cohomological support variety. We also show that Ext^*(M,M) is finitely generated over the cohomology ring of the Drinfel'd double for any finitely-generated module M.
We give a systematic construction of Hopf algebra structures on braided cofree coalgebras. The relevant underlying structures are braided algebras and braided coalgebras. We provide some interesting examples of these algebras and coalgebras related to quantum groups. We introduce quantum multi-brace algebras which are generalizations of both braided algebras and $\textbf{B}_\infty$-algebras, as the natural framework. This new subject enables one to quantize some important algebra structures in a uniform way. Particular interesting examples are quantum quasi-shuffle algebras.
We study generalised differential structures $Ω^1,d$ on an algebra $A$, where $A\tens A\to Ω^1$ given by $a\tens b\to a d b$ need not be surjective. The finite set case corresponds to quivers with embedded digraphs, the Hopf algebra left covariant case to pairs $(Λ^1,ω)$ where $Λ^1$ is a right module and $ω$ a right module map, and the Hopf algebra bicovariant case corresponds to morphisms $ω:A^+\to Λ^1$ in the category of right crossed (or Drinfeld-Radford-Yetter) modules over $A$. When $A=U(g)$ the generalised left-covariant differential structures are classified by cocycles $ω\in Z^1(g,Λ^1)…
We show that the shuffle algebra associated to a doubled quiver (determined by 3-variable wheel conditions) is generated by elements of minimal degree. Together with results of Varagnolo-Vasserot and Yu Zhao, this implies that the aforementioned shuffle algebra is isomorphic to the localized K-theoretic Hall algebra associated to the quiver by Schiffmann-Vasserot. With small modifications, our theorems also hold under certain specializations of the equivariant parameters, which will allow us in Neguţ-Sala-Schiffmann to give a generators-and-relations description of the Hall algebra of any curv…
We refine the cyclic cohomological apparatus for computing the Hopf cyclic cohomology of the Hopf algebras associated to infinite primitive Cartan-Lie pseudogroups, and for the transfer of their characteristic classes to foliations. The main novel feature is the precise identification as a Hopf cyclic complex of the image of the canonical homomorphism from the Gelfand-Fuks complex to the Bott complex for equivariant cohomology. This provides a convenient new model for the Hopf cyclic cohomology of the geometric Hopf algebras, which allows for an efficient transport of the Hopf cyclic classes v…
For a given Hopf algebra $A$ we classify all Hopf algebras $E$ that are coalgebra split extensions of $A$ by $H_4$, where $H_4$ is the Sweedler's 4-dimensional Hopf algebra. Equivalently, we classify all crossed products of Hopf algebras $A # H_4$ by computing explicitly two classifying objects: the cohomological 'group' ${\mathcal H}^{2} (H_4, A)$ and $\textsc{C}\textsc{r}\textsc{p} (H_4, A) :=$ the set of types of isomorphisms of all crossed products $A # H_4$. All crossed products $A #H_4$ are described by generators and relations and classified: they are parameterized by the set ${\mathcal…
Let $A \subseteq E$ be a given extension of Hopf (respectively Lie) algebras. We answer the \emph{classifying complements problem} (CCP) which consists of describing and classifying all complements of $A$ in $E$. If $H$ is a given complement then all the other complements are obtained from $H$ by a certain type of deformation. We establish a bijective correspondence between the isomorphism classes of all complements of $A$ in $E$ and a cohomological type object ${\mathcal H}{\mathcal A}^{2} (H, A \, | \, (\triangleright, \triangleleft) )$, where $(\triangleright, \triangleleft)$ is the matched…
We discuss shuffle identities between Feynman graphs using the Hopf algebra structure of perturbative quantum field theory. For concrete exposition, we discuss vertex function in massless Yukawa theory.
The celebrated Milnor-Moore theorem and the more general Cartier-Kostant-Milnor-Moore theorem establish close relationships of a connected and a pointed cocommutative Hopf algebra with its Lie algebra of primitive elements and its group of group-like elements. Crossed homomorphisms for Lie algebras, groups and Hopf algebras have been studied extensively, first from a cohomological perspective and then more broadly, with an important case given by difference operators. This paper shows that the relationship among the different algebraic structures captured in the Milnor-Moore theorem can be str…
We prove a cyclic cohomological analogue of Haefliger's van Est-type theorem for the groupoid of germs of diffeomorphisms of a manifold. The differentiable version of cyclic cohomology is associated to the algebra of transverse differential operators on that groupoid, which is shown to carry an intrinsic Hopf algebraic structure. We establish a canonical isomorphism between the periodic Hopf cyclic cohomology of this extended Hopf algebra and the Gelfand-Fuchs cohomology of the Lie algebra of formal vector fields. We then show that this isomorphism can be explicitly implemented at the cochain …
We study deformations of graded braided bialgebras using cohomological methods. In particular, we show that many examples of Nichols algebras, including the finite-dimensional ones arising in the Andruskiewitsch-Schneider program of classification of pointed Hopf algebras, are rigid. This result can be regarded as nonexistence of "braided Lie algebras" with nontrivial bracket.
Let $A$ and $H$ be two Hopf algebras. We shall classify up to an isomorphism that stabilizes $A$ all Hopf algebras $E$ that factorize through $A$ and $H$ by a cohomological type object ${\mathcal H}^{2} (A, H)$. Equivalently, we classify up to a left $A$-linear Hopf algebra isomorphism, the set of all bicrossed products $A \bowtie H$ associated to all possible matched pairs of Hopf algebras $(A, H, \triangleleft, \triangleright)$ that can be defined between $A$ and $H$. In the construction of ${\mathcal H}^{2} (A, H)$ the key role is played by special elements of $CoZ^{1} (H, A) \times \Aut_{\…
We show how to get a non-commutative product for functions on space-time starting from the deformation of the coproduct of the Poincare' group using the Drinfel'd twist. Thus it is easy to see that the commutative algebra of functions on space-time (R^4) can be identified as the set of functions on the Poincare' group invariant under the right action of the Lorentz group provided we use the standard coproduct for the Poincare' group. We obtain our results for the noncommutative Moyal plane by generalizing this result to the case of the twisted coproduct. This extension is not trivial and invol…
The problem of whether the cohomological support map of a finite dimensional Hopf algebra has the tensor product property has attracted a lot of attention following the earlier developments on representations of finite group schemes. Many authors have focussed on concrete situations where positive and negative results have been obtained by direct arguments. In this paper we demonstrate that it is natural to study questions involving the tensor product property in the broader setting of a monoidal triangulated category. We give an intrinsic characterization by proving that the tensor product pr…
Using the computational approach introduced in [Agore A.L., Bontea C.G., Militaru G., J. Algebra Appl. 12 (2013), 1250227, 24 pages, arXiv:1207.0411] we classify all coalgebra split extensions of $H_4$ by $k[C_n]$, where $C_n$ is the cyclic group of order $n$ and $H_4$ is Sweedler's $4$-dimensional Hopf algebra. Equivalently, we classify all crossed products of Hopf algebras $H_4 \# k[C_{n}]$ by explicitly computing two classifying objects: the cohomological 'group' ${\mathcal H}^{2} ( k[C_{n}], H_4)$ and $\text{CRP}( k[C_{n}], H_4):=$ the set of types of isomorphisms of all crossed products $…
L-infinity morphisms are studied from the point of view of perturbative quantum field theory, as generalizations of Feynman expansions. The connection with the Hopf algebra approach to renormalization is exploited. Using the coalgebra structure (Forest Formula), the weights of the corresponding expansions are proved to be cycles of the DG-coalgebra of Feynman graphs. The properties of integrals over configuration spaces (Feynman integrals) are investigated. The aim is to develop a cohomological approach in order to construct the coefficients of formality morphisms using an algebraic machinery,…
Given a pair of finite groups $F, G$ and a normalized 3-cocycle $ω$ of $G$, where $F$ acts on $G$ as automorphisms, we consider quasi-Hopf algebras defined as a cleft extension $\Bbbk^G_ω\#_c\,\Bbbk F$ where $c$ denotes some suitable cohomological data. When $F\rightarrow \overline{F}:=F/A$ is a quotient of $F$ by a central subgroup $A$ acting trivially on $G$, we give necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of a surjection of quasi-Hopf algebras and cleft extensions of the type $\Bbbk^G_ω\#_c\, \Bbbk F\rightarrow \Bbbk^G_ω\#_{\overline{c}} \, \Bbbk \overline{F}$. Our constructio…
Multiple zeta values have been studied by a wide variety of methods. In this article we summarize some of the results about them that can be obtained by an algebraic approach. This involves "coding" the multiple zeta values by monomials in two noncommuting variables x and y. Multiple zeta values can then be thought of as defining a map ζ: H^0 -> R, where H^0 is the graded rational vector space generated by the "admissible words" of the noncommutative polynomial algebra Q<x,y>. Now H^0 admits two (commutative) products making ζa homomorphism: the shuffle product and the "harmonic" product. The …
