We review the developments in the Lie theory for non-associative products from 2000 to date and describe the current understanding of the subject in view of the recent works, many of which use non-associative Hopf algebras as the main tool.
A short proof is given of the fact that various classes of algebras including the free associative algebra are Hopfian, i.e., every epimorphism is an automorphism. This further simplifies the Dicks-Lewin solution of the Jacobian conjecture for the free associative algebra.
We show that the invariants of a free associative algebra of finite rank under a linear action of a finite-dimensional Hopf algebra generated by group-like and skew-primitive elements form a finitely generated algebra exactly when the action is scalar. This generalizes an analogous result for group actions by automorphisms obtained by Dicks and Formanek, and Kharchenko.
In this paper, we consider graded associative conformal algebras. The class of these objects includes pseudo-algebras over non-cocommutative Hopf algebras of regular functions on some linear algebraic groups. In particular, an associative conformal algebra which is graded by a finite group $Γ$ is a pseudo-algebra over the coordinate Hopf algebra of a linear algebraic group $G$ such that the identity component $G^0$ is the affine line and $G/G^0\simeq Γ$. A classification of simple and semisimple graded associative conformal algebras of finite type is obtained.
We prove the analog of Amitsur's conjecture on asymptotic behavior for codimensions of several generalizations of polynomial identities for finite dimensional associative algebras over a field of characteristic 0, including G-identities for any finite (not necessarily Abelian) group G and H-identities for a finite dimensional semisimple Hopf algebra H. In addition, we prove that the Hopf PI-exponent of Sweedler's 4-dimensional algebra with the action of its dual equals 4.
We introduce a notion of split extension of (non-associative) bialgebras which generalizes the notion of split extension of magmas introduced by M. Gran, G. Janelidze and M. Sobral. We show that this definition is equivalent to the notion of action of (non-associative) bialgebras. We particularize this equivalence to (non-associative) Hopf algebras by defining split extensions of (non-associative) Hopf algebras and proving that they are equivalent to actions of (non-associative) Hopf algebras. Moreover, we prove the validity of the Split Short Five Lemma for these kinds of split extensions, an…
In this paper, we generalize Schur-Weyl duality and Morita Theorem on associative algebras to those on associative $H$-pseudoalgebras. Meanwhile, we get a plenty of associative $H$-pseudoalgebras over a cocommutative Hopf algebra $H$.
The aim of this paper is to extend to Hom-algebra structures the theory of formal deformations of algebras which was introduced by Gerstenhaber for associative algebras and extended to Lie algebras by Nijenhuis-Richardson. We deal with Hom-associative and Hom-Lie algebras. We construct the first groups of a deformation cohomology and give several examples of deformations. We provide families of Hom-Lie algebras deforming Lie algebra $sl_2$ and describe as formal deformations the q-deformed Witt algebra and Jackson $sl_2$.
In this note, we introduce a class of algebras that are in some sense related to conformal algebras. This class (called TC-algebras) includes Weyl algebras and some of their (associative and Lie) subalgebras. By a conformal algebra we generally mean what is known as $H$-pseudo-algebra over the polynomial Hopf algebra $H=\Bbbk[T_1,..., T_n]$. Some recent results in structure theory of conformal algebras are applied to get a description of TC-algebras.
We studied both the double cross product and the bicrossproduct constructions for the Hom-Hopf algebras of general $(α,β)$-type. This allows us to consider the universal enveloping Hom-Hopf algebras of Hom-Lie algebras, which are of $(α,{\rm Id})$-type. We show that the universal enveloping Hom-Hopf algebras of a matched pair of Hom-Lie algebras form a matched pair of Hom-Hopf algebras. We observe also that, the semi-dualization of a double cross product Hom-Hopf algebra is a bicrossproduct Hom-Hopf algebra. In particular, we apply this result to the universal enveloping Hom-Hopf algebras of a…
A BiHom-associative algebra is a (nonassociative) algebra $A$ endowed with two commuting multiplicative linear maps $α,β\colon A\rightarrow A$ such that $α(a)(bc)=(ab)β(c)$, for all $a, b, c\in A$. This concept arose in the study of algebras in so-called group Hom-categories. In this paper, we introduce as well BiHom-Lie algebras (also by using the categorical approach) and BiHom-bialgebras. We discuss these new structures by presenting some basic properties and constructions (representations, twisted tensor products, smash products etc).
The present article takes advantage of the properties of algebras in the category of S-modules (twisted algebras) to investigate further the fine algebraic structure of Hopf operads. We prove that any Hopf operad P carries naturally the structure of twisted Hopf P-algebra. Many properties of classical Hopf algebraic structures are then shown to be encapsulated in the twisted Hopf algebraic structure of the corresponding Hopf operad. In particular, various classical theorems of Lie theory relating Lie polynomials to words (i.e. elements of the tensor algebra) are lifted to arbitrary Hopf operad…
Lie conformal algebras appear in the theory of vertex algebras. Their relation is similar to that of Lie algebras and their universal enveloping algebras. Associative conformal algebras play a role in conformal representation theory. We introduce the notions of conformal identity and unital associative conformal algebras and classify finitely generated simple unital associative conformal algebras of linear growth. These are precisely the complete algebras of conformal endomorphisms of finite modules.
We introduce a non-symmetric operad $\mathcal{N}$, whose dimension in degree $n$ is given by the Catalan number $c_{n-1}$. It arises naturally in the study of coalgebra structures defined on compatible associative algebras. We prove that any free compatible associative algebra admits a compatible infinitesimal bialgebra structure, whose subspace of primitive elements is a $\mathcal{N}$-algebra. The data $({\rm As},{\rm As}^2, \mathcal{N})$ is a good triple of operads, in J.-L. Loday's sense. Our construction induces another triple of operads $({\rm As},{\rm As}_2,{\rm As})$, where ${\rm As}_2$…
We investigate a method of construction of central deformations of associative algebras, which we call centrification. We prove some general results in the case of Hopf algebras and provide several examples.
The aim of this paper is to generalize the concept of Lie-admissible coalgebra introduced by Goze and Remm to Hom-coalgebras and to introduce Hom-Hopf algebras with some properties. These structures are based on the Hom-algebra structures introduced by the authors.
Classes of $G$-Hom-associative algebras are constructed as deformations of $G$-associative algebras along algebra endomorphisms. As special cases, we obtain Hom-associative and Hom-Lie algebras as deformations of associative and Lie algebras, respectively, along algebra endomorphisms. Chevalley-Eilenberg type homology for Hom-Lie algebras are also constructed.
We investigate Lie algebras whose Lie bracket is also an associative or cubic associative multiplication to characterize the class of nilpotent Lie algebras with a nilindex equal to 2 or 3. In particular we study the class of 2-step nilpotent Lie algebras, their deformations and we compute the cohomology which parametrize the deformations in this class.
This paper studies the concepts of a totally compatible dialgebra and a totally compatible Lie dialgebra, defined to be a vector space with two binary operations that satisfy individual and mixed associativity conditions and Lie algebra conditions respectively. We show that totally compatible dialgebras are closely related to bimodule algebras and semi-homomorphisms. More significantly, Rota-Baxter operators on totally compatible dialgebras provide a uniform framework to generalize known results that Rota-Baxter related operators give tridendriform algebras. Free totally compatible dialgebras …
Let $A$ be an associative algebra over a field of characteristic $\neq 2$ that is generated by a finite collection of nilpotent elements. We prove that all Lie derived powers of $A$ are finitely generated Lie algebras.
We study Jordan-Lie inner ideals of finite dimensional associative algebras and the corresponding Lie algebras and prove that they admit Levi decompositions. Moreover, we classify Jordan-Lie inner ideals satisfying a certain minimality condition and show that they are generated by pairs of idempotents.
In his generalization of reductive homogeneous spaces, Lev Sabinin showed that Lie's fundamental theorems hold for local analytic hyporeductive and pseudoreductive loops. We derive Sabinin's results in an algebraic context in terms of non-associative Hopf algebras that satisfy the analog of the hyporeductive and pseudoreductive identities for loops.
This note discusses a framework for the investigation of the prime spectrum of an associative algebra A that is equipped with an action of a Hopf algebra H. In particular, we study a notion of H-rationality for ideals of A and comment on a possible Dixmier-Moeglin equivalence for H-prime ideals of A.
It is shown that the subalgebra of invariants of a free associative algebra of finite rank under a linear action of a semisimple Hopf algebra has a rational Hilbert series with respect to the usual degree function, whenever the ground field has zero characteristic.
Adjoint functors between the categories of crossed modules of dialgebras and Leibniz algebras are constructed. The well-known relations between the categories of Lie, Leibniz, associative algebras and dialgebras are extended to the respective categories of crossed modules.
We prove that a Lie nilpotent one-sided ideal of an associative ring $R$ is contained in a Lie solvable two-sided ideal of $R$. An estimation of derived length of such Lie solvable ideal is obtained depending on the class of Lie nilpotency of the Lie nilpotent one-sided ideal of $R.$ One-sided Lie nilpotent ideals contained in ideals generated by commutators of the form $[... [ [r_1, r_{2}], ... ], r_{n-1}], r_{n}]$ are also studied.
In this paper we examine how the notion of algebra of quotients for Lie algebras ties up with the corresponding well-known concept in the associative case. Specifically, we completely characterize when a Lie algebra $Q$ is an algebra of quotients of a Lie algebra $L$ in terms of the associative algebras generated by the adjoint operators of $L$ and $Q$ respectively. In a converse direction, we also provide with new examples of algebras of quotients of Lie algebras and these come from associative algebras of quotients. In the course of our analysis, we make use of the notions of density and mul…
The purpose of this paper is to study the structure and the algebraic varieties of BiHom-associative algebras. We provide a classication of n-dimensional BiHom-associative and BiHom-bialgebras and BiHom Hopf algebras for n $\le$ 3.
The aim of this paper is to introduce $n$-ary BiHom-algebras, generalizing BiHom-algebras. We introduce an alternative concept of BiHom-Lie algebra called BiHom-Lie-Leibniz algebra and study various type of $n$-ary BiHom-Lie algebras and BiHom-associative algebras. We show that $n$-ary BiHom-Lie-Leibniz algebra can be represented by BiHom-Lie-Leibniz algebra through fundamental objets. Moreover, we provide some key constructions and study $n$-ary BiHom-Lie algebras induced by $(n-1)$-ary BiHom-Lie algebras.
We prove that the only proper right ideal of the universal enveloping algebra of a finite-dimensional central simple Lie triple system over a field of characteristic zero is its augmentation ideal.
We prove the existence of the Hopf PI-exponent for finite dimensional associative algebras $A$ with a generalized Hopf action of an associative algebra $H$ with $1$ over an algebraically closed field of characteristic $0$ assuming only the invariance of the Jacobson radical $J(A)$ under the $H$-action and the existence of the decomposition of $A/J(A)$ into the sum of $H$-simple algebras. As a consequence, we show that the analog of Amitsur's conjecture holds for $G$-codimensions of finite dimensional associative algebras over a field of characteristic $0$ with an action of an arbitrary group $…
Let $\mathfrak{a},\mathfrak{b},\mathfrak{e}$ be algebras over a field $k$. Then $\mathfrak{e}$ is an extension of $\mathfrak{a}$ by $\mathfrak{b}$ if $\mathfrak{a}$ is an ideal of $\mathfrak{e}$ and $\mathfrak{b}$ is isomorphic to the quotient algebra $\mathfrak{e}/\mathfrak{a}$. In this paper, by using Gröbner-Shirshov bases theory for associative (resp. Lie) algebras, we give complete characterizations of associative (resp. Lie) algebra extensions of $\mathfrak{a}$ by $\mathfrak{b}$, where $\mathfrak{b}$ is presented by generators and relations.
Let $F$ be a field of characteristic not $2$ . An associative $F$-algebra $R$ gives rise to the commutator Lie algebra $R^{(-)}=(R,[a,b]=ab-ba).$ If the algebra $R$ is equipped with an involution $*:R\rightarrow R$ then the space of the skew-symmetric elements $K=\{a \in R \mid a^{*}=-a \}$ is a Lie subalgebra of $R^{(-)}.$ In this paper we find sufficient conditions for the Lie algebras $[R,R]$ and $[K,K]$ to be finitely generated.
Lie superautomorphisms of prime associative superalgebras are considered. A definitive result is obtained for central simple superalgebras: their Lie superautomorphisms are of standard forms, except when the dimension of the superalgebra in question is 2 or 4.
We introduce post-associative algebra structures and study their relationship to post-Lie algebra structures, Rota--Baxter operators and decompositions of associative algebras and Lie algebras. We show several results on the existence of such structures. In particular we prove that there exists no post-Lie algebra structure on a pair $(\mathfrak{g},\mathfrak{n})$, where $\mathfrak{n}$ is a simple Lie algebra and $\mathfrak{g}$ is a reductive Lie algebra, which is not isomorphic to $\mathfrak{n}$. We also show that there is no post-associative algebra structure on a pair $(A,B)$ arising from a …
The operad Lie can be constructed as the operad of primitives Prim As from the operad As of associative algebras. This is reflected by the theorems of Friedrichs, Poincare'-Birkhoff-Witt and Cartier-Milnor-Moore. We replace As by families of free operads P, which include the operad Mag freely generated by a noncommutative non-associative binary operation and the operad of Stasheff polytopes. We obtain Poincare'-Birkhoff-Witt type theorems and collect information about the operads Prim P, e.g. in terms of characteristic functions.
Let $K$ be a 2-torsion free ring with identity. We give a description of the Lie derivations of $R=R_{n}(K,J)=NT_{n}(K)+M_{n}(J)$, the ring of all $n\times n$ matrices over $K$ such that the entries on and above the main diagonal are elements of an ideal $J$ of $K$.
We consider two families of finite-dimensional simple Lie superalgebras of Cartan type, denoted by HO and KO, over an algebraically closed field of characteristic p>3. Using the weight space decompositions and the principal gradings we first show that neither HO nor KO possesses a nondegenerate associative form. Then, by means of computing the superderivations from the Lie superalgebras in consideration into their dual modules, the second cohomology groups with coefficients in the trivial modules are proved to be vanishing.
Considering a Poisson algebra as a non associative algebra satisfying the Markl-Remm identity, we study deformations of Poisson algebras as deformations of this non associative algebra. This gives a natural interpretation of deformations which preserves the underlying associative structure and we study deformations which preserve the underlying Lie algebra.
We study gradings by abelian groups on associative algebras with involution over an arbitrary field. Of particular importance are the fine gradings (that is, those that do not admit a proper refinement), because any grading on a finite-dimensional algebra can be obtained from them via a group homomorphism (although not in a unique way). We classify up to equivalence the fine gradings on simple associative algebras with involution over the field of real numbers (or any real closed field) and, as a consequence, on the real forms of classical simple Lie algebras.
We consider associative algebras over a field. An algebra variety is said to be {\em Lie nilpotent} if it satisfies a polynomial identity of the kind $[x_1, x_2, ..., x_n] = 0$ where $[x_1,x_2] = x_1x_2 - x_2x_1$ and $[x_1, x_2, ..., x_n]$ is defined inductively by $[x_1, x_2, ..., x_n]=[[x_1, x_2, ..., x_{n-1}],x_n]$. By Zorn's Lemma every non-Lie nilpotent variety contains a minimal such variety, called {\em almost Lie nilpotent}, as a subvariety. A description of almost Lie nilpotent varieties for algebras over a field of characteristic 0 was made up by Yu.Mal'cev. We find a list of non-pri…
The purpose of this paper is to study infinitesimal H-pseudobialgebra, which is an associative analogy of Lie H-pseudobialgebra. We first define the infinitesimal H-pseudobialgebra and investigate some properties of this new algebraic structure. Then we consider the coboundary infinitesimal H-pseudobialgebra, which is the subclass of infinitesimal H-pseudobialgebra and we obtain the associative Yang-Baxter equation over an associative H-pseudoalgebra. Finally, we found the connection between the (coboundary) infinitesimal H-pseudobialgebra and the (coboundary) Lie H-pseudobialgebra. Meanwhile,…
The notion of a non-associative universal enveloping algebra for a Lie triple system arises when Lie triple systems are considered as Bol algebras (more generally, Sabinin algebras). In this paper a new construction for these universal enveloping algebras is given, and their properties are studied. It is shown that universal enveloping algebras of Lie triple systems have surprisingly few ideals. It is conjectured, and the conjecture is verified on several examples, that the only proper ideal of the universal enveloping algebra of a simple Lie triple system is the augmentation ideal.
We describe subalgebras of the Lie algebra $\mf{gl}(n^2)$ that contain all inner derivations of $A=M_n(F)$ (where $n\ge 5$ and $F$ is an algebraically closed field of characteristic 0). In a more general context where $A$ is a prime algebra satisfying certain technical restrictions, we establish a density theorem for the associative algebra generated by all inner derivations of $A$.
In this paper, we begin a systematic study of modified Rota-Baxter algebras, as an associative analogue of the modified classical Yang-Baxter equation. We construct free commutative modified Rota-Baxter algebras by a variation of the shuffle product and describe the structure both recursively and explicitly. We then provide these algebras with a Hopf algebra structure by applying a Hochschild cocycle.
Let K be a field, then we exhibit two matrices in the full nxn matrix algebra M_{n}(K) which generate M_{n}(K) as a Lie K-algebra with the commutator Lie product. We also study Lie centralizers of a not necessarily commutative unitary algebra and obtain results which we hope will eventually be a step in the direction of, firstly, proving that a Lie-nilpotent K-subspace (or a sub Lie K-algebra) of a finite-dimensional associative algebra over K of index k (say) generates a Lie-nilpotent associative subalgebra of much higher nilpotency index, and secondly, in the light of the sharp upper bound f…
We define and investigate a geometric object, called an associative geometry, corresponding to an associative algebra (and, more generally, to an associative pair). Associative geometries combine aspects of Lie groups and of generalized projective geometries, where the former correspond to the Lie product of an associative algebra and the latter to its Jordan product. A further development of the theory encompassing involutive associative algebras will be given in subsequent work.
