In this paper we examine how the notion of algebra of quotients for Lie algebras ties up with the corresponding well-known concept in the associative case. Specifically, we completely characterize when a Lie algebra $Q$ is an algebra of quotients of a Lie algebra $L$ in terms of the associative algebras generated by the adjoint operators of $L$ and $Q$ respectively. In a converse direction, we also provide with new examples of algebras of quotients of Lie algebras and these come from associative algebras of quotients. In the course of our analysis, we make use of the notions of density and multiplicative semiprimeness to link our results with the maximal symmetric ring of quotients.
We continue the study of the lower central series L_i(A) and its successive quotients B_i(A) of a noncommutative associative algebra A, defined by L_1(A)=A, L_{i+1}(A)=[A,L_i(A)], and B_i(A)=L_i(A)/L_{i+1}(A). We describe B_{2}(A) for A a quotient of the free algebra on two or three generators by the two-sided ideal generated by a generic homogeneous element. We prove that it is isomorphic to a certain quotient of Kaehler differentials on the non-smooth variety associated to the abelianization of A.
We investigate Lie algebras whose Lie bracket is also an associative or cubic associative multiplication to characterize the class of nilpotent Lie algebras with a nilindex equal to 2 or 3. In particular we study the class of 2-step nilpotent Lie algebras, their deformations and we compute the cohomology which parametrize the deformations in this class.
Let $A$ be an associative algebra over a field of characteristic $\neq 2$ that is generated by a finite collection of nilpotent elements. We prove that all Lie derived powers of $A$ are finitely generated Lie algebras.
We study Jordan-Lie inner ideals of finite dimensional associative algebras and the corresponding Lie algebras and prove that they admit Levi decompositions. Moreover, we classify Jordan-Lie inner ideals satisfying a certain minimality condition and show that they are generated by pairs of idempotents.
Adjoint functors between the categories of crossed modules of dialgebras and Leibniz algebras are constructed. The well-known relations between the categories of Lie, Leibniz, associative algebras and dialgebras are extended to the respective categories of crossed modules.
We prove that a Lie nilpotent one-sided ideal of an associative ring $R$ is contained in a Lie solvable two-sided ideal of $R$. An estimation of derived length of such Lie solvable ideal is obtained depending on the class of Lie nilpotency of the Lie nilpotent one-sided ideal of $R.$ One-sided Lie nilpotent ideals contained in ideals generated by commutators of the form $[... [ [r_1, r_{2}], ... ], r_{n-1}], r_{n}]$ are also studied.
The aim of this paper is to introduce $n$-ary BiHom-algebras, generalizing BiHom-algebras. We introduce an alternative concept of BiHom-Lie algebra called BiHom-Lie-Leibniz algebra and study various type of $n$-ary BiHom-Lie algebras and BiHom-associative algebras. We show that $n$-ary BiHom-Lie-Leibniz algebra can be represented by BiHom-Lie-Leibniz algebra through fundamental objets. Moreover, we provide some key constructions and study $n$-ary BiHom-Lie algebras induced by $(n-1)$-ary BiHom-Lie algebras.
We prove that the only proper right ideal of the universal enveloping algebra of a finite-dimensional central simple Lie triple system over a field of characteristic zero is its augmentation ideal.
Feigin and Shoikhet conjectured in math/0610410 that successive quotients $B_m(A_n)$ of the lower central series filtration of a free associative algebra $A_n$ have polynomial growth. In this paper we give a proof of this conjecture, using the structure of $W_n$-representation on $B_m(A_n)$ which was defined in math/0610410 . We also prove that the number of squares in a Young diagram $D$ corresponding to an irreducible $W_n$-module in the Jordan-Holder series of $B_m(A_n)$ is bounded above by the integer $(m-1)^2+2[(n-2)/2](m-1)$. This bound combined with MAGMA computations by Rains in math/0…
Let $\mathfrak{a},\mathfrak{b},\mathfrak{e}$ be algebras over a field $k$. Then $\mathfrak{e}$ is an extension of $\mathfrak{a}$ by $\mathfrak{b}$ if $\mathfrak{a}$ is an ideal of $\mathfrak{e}$ and $\mathfrak{b}$ is isomorphic to the quotient algebra $\mathfrak{e}/\mathfrak{a}$. In this paper, by using Gröbner-Shirshov bases theory for associative (resp. Lie) algebras, we give complete characterizations of associative (resp. Lie) algebra extensions of $\mathfrak{a}$ by $\mathfrak{b}$, where $\mathfrak{b}$ is presented by generators and relations.
Let $F$ be a field of characteristic not $2$ . An associative $F$-algebra $R$ gives rise to the commutator Lie algebra $R^{(-)}=(R,[a,b]=ab-ba).$ If the algebra $R$ is equipped with an involution $*:R\rightarrow R$ then the space of the skew-symmetric elements $K=\{a \in R \mid a^{*}=-a \}$ is a Lie subalgebra of $R^{(-)}.$ In this paper we find sufficient conditions for the Lie algebras $[R,R]$ and $[K,K]$ to be finitely generated.
We introduce post-associative algebra structures and study their relationship to post-Lie algebra structures, Rota--Baxter operators and decompositions of associative algebras and Lie algebras. We show several results on the existence of such structures. In particular we prove that there exists no post-Lie algebra structure on a pair $(\mathfrak{g},\mathfrak{n})$, where $\mathfrak{n}$ is a simple Lie algebra and $\mathfrak{g}$ is a reductive Lie algebra, which is not isomorphic to $\mathfrak{n}$. We also show that there is no post-associative algebra structure on a pair $(A,B)$ arising from a …
We continue the study of the lower central series and its associated graded components for a free associative algebra with n generators, as initiated by B. Feigin and B. Shoikhet. We establish a linear bound on the degree of tensor field modules appearing in the Jordan-Hoelder series of each graded component, which is conjecturally tight. We also bound the leading coefficient of the Hilbert polynomial of each graded component. As applications, we confirm conjectures of P. Etingof and B. Shoikhet concerning the structure of the third graded component.
Let $K$ be a 2-torsion free ring with identity. We give a description of the Lie derivations of $R=R_{n}(K,J)=NT_{n}(K)+M_{n}(J)$, the ring of all $n\times n$ matrices over $K$ such that the entries on and above the main diagonal are elements of an ideal $J$ of $K$.
We consider two families of finite-dimensional simple Lie superalgebras of Cartan type, denoted by HO and KO, over an algebraically closed field of characteristic p>3. Using the weight space decompositions and the principal gradings we first show that neither HO nor KO possesses a nondegenerate associative form. Then, by means of computing the superderivations from the Lie superalgebras in consideration into their dual modules, the second cohomology groups with coefficients in the trivial modules are proved to be vanishing.
We study gradings by abelian groups on associative algebras with involution over an arbitrary field. Of particular importance are the fine gradings (that is, those that do not admit a proper refinement), because any grading on a finite-dimensional algebra can be obtained from them via a group homomorphism (although not in a unique way). We classify up to equivalence the fine gradings on simple associative algebras with involution over the field of real numbers (or any real closed field) and, as a consequence, on the real forms of classical simple Lie algebras.
We consider associative algebras over a field. An algebra variety is said to be {\em Lie nilpotent} if it satisfies a polynomial identity of the kind $[x_1, x_2, ..., x_n] = 0$ where $[x_1,x_2] = x_1x_2 - x_2x_1$ and $[x_1, x_2, ..., x_n]$ is defined inductively by $[x_1, x_2, ..., x_n]=[[x_1, x_2, ..., x_{n-1}],x_n]$. By Zorn's Lemma every non-Lie nilpotent variety contains a minimal such variety, called {\em almost Lie nilpotent}, as a subvariety. A description of almost Lie nilpotent varieties for algebras over a field of characteristic 0 was made up by Yu.Mal'cev. We find a list of non-pri…
We address a Jordan version of Johnson theorem on (associative) algebras of quotients, namely whether a strongly nonsingular (the Jordan version of nonsingularity) has a von Neumann regular algebra of quotients. Although the answer is negative in general, we prove that the result holds in the important case of algebras satisfying a polynomial identity.
Let K be a field, then we exhibit two matrices in the full nxn matrix algebra M_{n}(K) which generate M_{n}(K) as a Lie K-algebra with the commutator Lie product. We also study Lie centralizers of a not necessarily commutative unitary algebra and obtain results which we hope will eventually be a step in the direction of, firstly, proving that a Lie-nilpotent K-subspace (or a sub Lie K-algebra) of a finite-dimensional associative algebra over K of index k (say) generates a Lie-nilpotent associative subalgebra of much higher nilpotency index, and secondly, in the light of the sharp upper bound f…
The motivation for this paper has been to study the relation between the zero component of the maximal graded algebra of quotients and the maximal graded algebra of quotients of the zero component, both in the Lie case and when considering Martindale algebras of quotients in the associative setting. We apply our results to prove that the finitary complex Lie algebras are (graded) strongly nondegenerate and compute their maximal algebras of quotients.
We define and investigate a geometric object, called an associative geometry, corresponding to an associative algebra (and, more generally, to an associative pair). Associative geometries combine aspects of Lie groups and of generalized projective geometries, where the former correspond to the Lie product of an associative algebra and the latter to its Jordan product. A further development of the theory encompassing involutive associative algebras will be given in subsequent work.

In this paper, by using Gröbner-Shirshov bases, we show that in the following classes, each (resp. countably generated) algebra can be embedded into a simple (resp. two-generated) algebra: associative differential algebras, associative $Ω$-algebras, associative $λ$-differential algebras. We show that in the following classes, each countably generated algebra over a countable field $k$ can be embedded into a simple two-generated algebra: associative algebras, semigroups, Lie algebras, associative differential algebras, associative $Ω$-algebras, associative $λ$-differential algebras. Also we pro…
Let $A$ be a semiprime 2 and 3-torsion free non-commutative associative algebra. We show that the Lie algebra $\der(A)$ of (associative) derivations of $A$ is strongly non-degenerate, which is a strong form of semiprimeness for Lie algebras, under some additional restrictions on the center of $A$. This result follows from a description of the quadratic annihilator of a general Lie algebra inside appropriate Lie overalgebras. Similar results are obtained for an associative algebra $A$ with involution and the Lie algebra $\sder(A)$ of involution preserving derivations of $A$.
We review the developments in the Lie theory for non-associative products from 2000 to date and describe the current understanding of the subject in view of the recent works, many of which use non-associative Hopf algebras as the main tool.
This paper concerns the associative lower central series ideals $M_i$ of the free algebra $A_n$ on $n$ generators. Namely, we study the successive quotients $N_i=M_i/M_{i+1}$, which admit an action of the Lie algebra $W_n$ of vector fields on $\Bbb C^n$. We bound the degree $|λ|$ of tensor field modules $F_λ$ appearing in the Jordan-Hölder series of each $N_i$, confirming a recent conjecture of Arbesfeld and Jordan. As an application, we compute these decompositions for small $n$ and $i$.
Let $\boldsymbolΛ_3(\mathbb C)\,(=\mathbb C^{27})$ be the space of structure vectors of $3$-dimensional algebras over $\mathbb C$ considered as a $G$-module via the action of $G={\rm GL}(3,\mathbb C)$ on $\boldsymbolΛ_3(\mathbb C)$ `by change of basis'. We determine the complete degeneration picture inside the algebraic subset $\mathcal A^s_3$ of $\boldsymbolΛ_3(\mathbb C)$ consisting of associative algebra structures via the corresponding information on the algebraic subsets $\mathcal L_3$ and $\mathcal J_3$ of $\boldsymbolΛ_3(\mathbb C)$ of Lie and Jordan algebra structures respectively. Thi…
Lie superautomorphisms of prime associative superalgebras are considered. A definitive result is obtained for central simple superalgebras: their Lie superautomorphisms are of standard forms, except when the dimension of the superalgebra in question is 2 or 4.
In this paper some results on the Lie structure of prime superalgebras are discussed. We prove that, with the exception of some special cases, for a prime superalgebra, $A$, over a ring of scalars $Φ$ with $1/2\in Φ$, if $L$ is a Lie ideal of $A$ and $W$ is a subalgebra of $A$ such that $[W, L]\subseteq W$, then either $L\subseteq Z$ or $W\subseteq Z$. Likewise, if $V$ is a submodule of $A$ and $[V, L]\subseteq V$, then either $V\subseteq Z$ or $L\subseteq Z$ or there exists an ideal of $A$, $M$, such that $0\not= [M,A]\subseteq V$. This work extends to prime superalgebras some results of I. N…
In this paper, we introduce the notion of system of quotients of Lie triple systems and investigate some properties which can be lifted from a Lie triple system to its systems of quotients. We relate the notion of Lie triple system of Martindale-like quotients with respect to a filter of ideals and the notion of system of quotients, and prove that the system of quotients of a Lie triple system is equivalent to the algebra of quotients of a Lie algebra in some sense, and these allow us to construct the maximal system of quotients for nondegenerate Lie triple systems.
Construction of some non-associative algebras from Associative Algebras with an endomorphism operator, a differential operator or a left averaging operator
We present coalgebras of some classes of nonassociative algebras whose associator satisfies invariance conditions given by the action of the 3-order symmetric group. Amongst these algebras we find the well-known Vinberg algebras, the Pre-Lie algebras, the Lie-admissible algebras and the 3-power associative algebras. We study properties between these coalgebras and algebras which generalize the associative case.
The aim of this paper is to extend to Hom-algebra structures the theory of formal deformations of algebras which was introduced by Gerstenhaber for associative algebras and extended to Lie algebras by Nijenhuis-Richardson. We deal with Hom-associative and Hom-Lie algebras. We construct the first groups of a deformation cohomology and give several examples of deformations. We provide families of Hom-Lie algebras deforming Lie algebra $sl_2$ and describe as formal deformations the q-deformed Witt algebra and Jackson $sl_2$.
Denote by (R,.) the multiplicative semigroup of an associative algebra R over an infinite field, and let (R,*) represent R when viewed as a semigroup via the circle operation x*y=x+y+xy. In this paper we characterize the existence of an identity in these semigroups in terms of the Lie structure of R. Namely, we prove that the following conditions on R are equivalent: the semigroup (R,*) satisfies an identity; the semigroup (R,.) satisfies a reduced identity; and, the associated Lie algebra of R satisfies the Engel condition. When R is finitely generated these conditions are each equivalent to …
We study the quotient Q_i(A) of a free algebra A by the ideal M_i(A) generated by relation that the i-th commutator of any elements is zero. In particular, we completely describe such quotient for i=4 (for i<=3 this was done previously by Feigin and Shoikhet). We also study properties of the ideals M_i(A), e.g. when M_i(A)M_j(A) is contained in M_{i+j-1}(A) (by a result of Gupta and Levin, it is always contained in M_{i+j-2}(A)).
In this paper, we introduce the notion of algebras of quotients of Hom-Lie algebras and investigate some properties which can be lifted from a Hom-Lie algebra to its algebra of quotients. We also give some necessary and sufficient conditions for Hom-Lie algebras having algebras of quotients. We also examine the relationship between a Hom-Lie algebra and the associative algebra generated by inner derivations of the corresponding Hom-Lie algebra of quotients. Moreover, we introduce the notion of dense extensions and get a proposition about Hom-Lie algebras of quotients via dense extensions.
We classify nilpotent associative algebras of dimensions up to 4 over any field. This is done by constructing the nilpotent associative algebras as central extensions of algebras of smaller dimension, analogous to methods known for nilpotent Lie algebras.
In this paper we explore graded algebras of quotients of Lie algebras with special emphasis on the 3-graded case and answer some natural questions concerning its relation to maximal Jordan systems of quotients.
It is well known that any Lie algebra can be embedded into an associative algebra. We prove that any metabelian Lie algebra can be embedded into an algebra in the subvariety of perm algebras, i.e., associative algebras with the identity $abc-acb =0$. In addition, a technical method to construct the universal enveloping perm algebra for a metabelian Lie algebra is given.
We introduce the first hom-associative Weyl algebras over a field of prime characteristic as a generalization of the first associative Weyl algebra in prime characteristic. First, we study properties of hom-associative algebras constructed from associative algebras by a general "twisting" procedure. Then, with the help of these results, we determine the commuter, center, nuclei, and set of derivations of the first hom-associative Weyl algebras. We also classify them up to isomorphism, and show, among other things, that all nonzero endomorphisms on them are injective, but not surjective. Last, …
It is known that there are Lie algebras with non-semigroup gradings, i.e. such that the binary operation on the grading set is not associative. We provide a similar example in the class of associative algebras.
Considering a Poisson algebra as a non associative algebra satisfying the Markl-Remm identity, we study deformations of Poisson algebras as deformations of this non associative algebra. This gives a natural interpretation of deformations which preserves the underlying associative structure and we study deformations which preserve the underlying Lie algebra.
Suppose the ground field $\mathbb{F}$ is an algebraically closed field of characteristic different from 2, 3. We determine the Betti numbers and make a decomposition of the associative superalgebra of the cohomology for the model filiform Lie superalgebra. We also describe the associative superalgebra structures of the (divided power) cohomology for some low-dimensional filiform Lie superalgebras.
In this paper, by using the Composition-Diamond lemma for non-associative algebras invented by A. I. Shirshov in 1962, we give Gröbner-Shirshov bases for free Pre-Lie algebras and the universal enveloping non-associative algebra of an Akivis algebra, respectively. As applications, we show I.P. Shestakov's result that any Akivis algebra is linear and D. Segal's result that the set of all good words in $X^{**}$ forms a linear basis of the free Pre-Lie algebra $PLie(X)$ generated by the set $X$. For completeness, we give the details of the proof of Shirshov's Composition-Diamond lemma for non-ass…
The notion of a non-associative universal enveloping algebra for a Lie triple system arises when Lie triple systems are considered as Bol algebras (more generally, Sabinin algebras). In this paper a new construction for these universal enveloping algebras is given, and their properties are studied. It is shown that universal enveloping algebras of Lie triple systems have surprisingly few ideals. It is conjectured, and the conjecture is verified on several examples, that the only proper ideal of the universal enveloping algebra of a simple Lie triple system is the augmentation ideal.
The paper concerns an analogue of the famous Schur multiplier in the context of associative algebras and a measure of how far its dimension is from being maximal. Applying a methodology from Lie theory, we characterize all finite-dimensional nilpotent associative algebras for which this measure is ten or less.
We describe subalgebras of the Lie algebra $\mf{gl}(n^2)$ that contain all inner derivations of $A=M_n(F)$ (where $n\ge 5$ and $F$ is an algebraically closed field of characteristic 0). In a more general context where $A$ is a prime algebra satisfying certain technical restrictions, we establish a density theorem for the associative algebra generated by all inner derivations of $A$.
Throughout this paper, we will study Rota-Baxter operators and super O-operator of associative BiHom superalgebras, BiHom Lie superalgebras, BiHom pre-Lie superalgebras and BiHom-L-dendriform superalgebras. Then we give some properties of BiHom pre-Lie superalgebras constructed from associative BiHom superalgebras, BiHom Lie superalgebras and BiHom-L-dendriform superalgebras. As applications, we study the theory of cohomology groups of BiHom-pre-Lie superalgebras.
