We investigate weight modules for finite and infinite Weyl algebras, classifying all such simple modules. We also study the representation type of the blocks of locally-finite weight module categories and describe indecomposable modules in tame blocks.
We calculate the cohomology of $\mathfrak{sl}_3(k)$ over an algebraically closed field $k$ of characteristic $p>3$ with coefficients in simple modules and Weyl modules. We also give descriptions of the corresponding cohomology of $\mathfrak{gl}_3(k)$.
We construct explicit resolutions of Weyl modules by divided powers and of co-Specht modules by permutational modules. We also prove a conjecture of Boltje-Hartmann on resolutions of co-Specht modules.
In vertex algebra theory, fusion rules are described as the dimension of the vector space of intertwining operators between three irreducible modules. We describe fusion rules in the category of weight modules for the Weyl vertex algebra. This way we confirm the conjecture on fusion rules based on the Verlinde algebra. We explicitly construct intertwining operators appearing in the formula for fusion rules. We present a result which relates irreducible weight modules for the Weyl vertex algebra to the irreducible modules for the affine Lie superalgebra $\widehat{gl(1 \vert 1)}$.
We study finite-dimensional respresentations of twisted current algebras and show that any graded twisted Weyl module is isomorphic to level one Demazure module for the twisted affine Kac-Moody algebra. Using the tensor product property of Demazure modules, we obtain, by analyzing the fundamental Weyl modules, dimension and character formulas. Moreover we prove that graded twisted Weyl modules can be obtained by taking the associated graded modules of Weyl modules for the loop algebra, which implies that its dimension and classical character are independent of the support and depend only on it…
Given an algebraically closed field $\Bbbk$ of characteristic zero, a Lie superalgebra $\mathfrak{g}$ over $\Bbbk$ and an associative, commutative $\Bbbk$-algebra $A$ with unit, a Lie superalgebra of the form $\mathfrak{g} \otimes_\Bbbk A$ is known as a map superalgebra. Map superalgebras generalize important classes of Lie superalgebras, such as, loop superalgebras (where $A=\Bbbk[t, t^{-1}]$), and current superalgebras (where $A=\Bbbk[t]$). In this paper, we define Weyl functors, global and local Weyl modules for all map superalgebras where $\mathfrak{g}$ is either $\mathfrak{sl} (n,n)$ with…
We identify $\lie{sl}_{n+1}$--isotypical components of global Weyl modules with natural subspaces in a polynomial ring, and then apply the representation theory of current algebras to classical problems in invariant theory.
One of the most important questions in the Bagger-Lambert-Gustavsson (BLG) theory of multiple M2-branes is the choice of the Lie 3-algebra. The Lie 3-algebra should be chosen such that the corresponding BLG model is unitary and admits fuzzy 3-sphere as a solution. In this paper we propose another new condition: the Lie 3-algebras of use must be connected to the semisimple Lie algebras describing the gauge symmetry of D-branes via a certain reduction condition. We show that this reduction condition leads to a natural generalization of the Cartan-Weyl 3-algebras introduced in arXiv:1004.1397. Si…
As Lie algebras of compact connected Lie groups, semisimple Lie algebras have wide applications in the description of continuous symmetries of physical systems. Mathematically, semisimple Lie algebra admits a Cartan-Weyl basis of generators which consists of a Cartan subalgebra of mutually commuting generators H_I and a number of step generators E^αthat are characterized by a root space of non-degenerate one-forms α. This simple decomposition in terms of the root space allows for a complete classification of semisimple Lie algebras. In this paper, we introduce the analogous concept of a Cartan…
Global and local Weyl modules for the untwisted multiloop Lie algebras were defined by Chari, the first and the second author via homological properties. In this paper we extended the ideas to give a categorical definition of the Weyl modules for twisted multiloop algebras. Our methods led us to describe an identification of the finite--dimensional highest weight modules for twisted multiloop algebras with suitably chosen finite--dimensional highest weight modules for untwisted multiloop algebras.
The aim of this paper is to give relations between the category of finetely generated graded modules over the homogeneized Weyl algebra $B_{n}$, the finetely generated modules over the Weyl algebra $A_{n}$ and the finetely generated graded modules over the Yoneda algebra $B_{n}^{!}$ of $B_{n}$. We will give these relations both at the level of the categories of modules and at the level of the derived categories.
The first Weyl algebra, $A_1 = k \langle x, y\rangle/(xy-yx - 1)$ is naturally $\mathbb{Z}$-graded by letting $\operatorname{deg} x = 1$ and $\operatorname{deg} y = -1$. Sue Sierra studied $\operatorname{gr}- A_1$, category of graded right $A_1$-modules, computing its Picard group and classifying all rings graded equivalent to $A_1$. In this paper, we generalize these results by studying the graded module category of certain generalized Weyl algebras. We show that for a generalized Weyl algebra $A(f)$ with base ring $k[z]$ defined by a quadratic polynomial $f$, the Picard group of $\operatorna…
In this paper we generalize the classical Groebner basis technique to prove the existence and present a method of computation of a dimension polynomial in two variables associated with a finitely generated D-module, that is, a finitely generated module over a Weyl algebra. We also present corresponding algorithms and examples of computation of such polynomials and show that a bivariate dimension polynomial can contain some invariants that are not carried by the Bernstein dimension polynomial. The obtained results are applied to the isomorphism problem for $D$-modules; they have also potential …
For an irreducible module $P$ over the Weyl algebra $\mathcal{K}_n^+$ (resp. $\mathcal{K}_n$) and an irreducible module $M$ over the general liner Lie algebra $\mathfrak{gl}_n$, using Shen's monomorphism, we make $P\otimes M$ into a module over the Witt algebra $W_n^+$ (resp. over $W_n$). We obtain the necessary and sufficient conditions for $P\otimes M$ to be an irreducible module over $W_n^+$ (resp. $W_n$), and determine all submodules of $P\otimes M$ when it is reducible. Thus we have constructed a large family of irreducible weight modules with many different weight supports and many irred…
We define global and local Weyl modules for Lie superalgebras of the form $\mathfrak{g} \otimes A$, where $A$ is an associative commutative unital $\mathbb{C}$-algebra and $\mathfrak{g}$ is a basic Lie superalgebra or $\mathfrak{sl}(n,n)$, $n \ge 2$. Under some mild assumptions, we prove universality, finite-dimensionality, and tensor product decomposition properties for these modules. These properties are analogues of those of Weyl modules in the non-super setting. We also point out some features that are new in the super case.
Global and local Weyl Modules were introduced via generators and relations in the context of affine Lie algebras in a work by the first author and Pressley and were motivated by representations of quantum affine algebras. A more general case was considered by Feigin and Loktev by replacing the polynomial ring with the coordinate ring of an algebraic variety. We show that there is a natural definition of the local and global modules via homological properties. This characterization allows us to define the Weyl functor from the category of left modules of a commutative algebra to the category of…
A new class of Poisson algebras, the class of {\em generalized Weyl Poisson algebras}, is introduced. It can be seen as Poisson algebra analogue of generalized Weyl algebras or as giving a Poisson structure to (certain) generalized Weyl algebras. A Poisson simplicity criterion is given for generalized Weyl Poisson algebras and explicit descriptions of the Poisson centre and the absolute Poisson centre are obtained. Many examples are considered.
We define a notion of pseudo-unitarizability for weight modules over a generalized Weyl algebra (of rank one, with commutative coeffiecient ring $R$), which is assumed to carry an involution of the form $X^*=Y$, $R^*\subseteq R$. We prove that a weight module $V$ is pseudo-unitarizable iff it is isomorphic to its finitistic dual $V^\sharp$. Using the classification of weight modules by Drozd, Guzner and Ovsienko, we obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for an indecomposable weight module to be isomorphic to its finitistic dual, and thus to be pseudo-unitarizable. Some examples are given,…
Kanel-Belov and Kontsevich's conjecture in \cite[Conjecture 1]{BeKo} is proved: The automorphism group of the $n$-th Weyl algebra is isomorphic to the Poisson automorphism group of the $n$-th Poisson Weyl algebra.
Deformation theory can be used to compute the cohomology of a deformed algebra with coefficients in itself from that of the original. Using the invariance of the Euler-Poincare characteristic under deformation, it is applied here to compute the cohomology of the Weyl algebra, the algebra of the quantum plane, and the q-Weyl algebra. The behavior of the cohomology when q is a root of unity may encode some number theoretic information.
Homological smoothness and twisted Calabi-Yau property of generalized Weyl algebras over polynomial algebras in two variables is studied. A necessary and sufficient condition to be homologically smooth is given. The Nakayama automorphisms of such algebras are also computed in terms of the Jacobian determinants of defining automorphisms.
We study the invariant theory of a class of quantum Weyl algebras under group actions and prove that the fixed subrings are always Gorenstein. We also verify the Tits alternative for the automorphism groups of these quantum Weyl algebras.
We introduce a new family of twisted generalized Weyl algebras, called multiparameter twisted Weyl algebras, for which we parametrize all simple quotients of a certain kind. Both Jordan's simple localization of the multiparameter quantized Weyl algebra and Hayashi's q-analog of the Weyl algebra are special cases of this construction. We classify all simple weight modules over any multiparameter twisted Weyl algebra. Extending results by Benkart and Ondrus, we also describe all Whittaker pairs up to isomorphism over a class of twisted generalized Weyl algebras which includes the multiparameter …
We introduce nil-Hecke algebras for Weyl groupoids. We describe a basis and some properties of these algebras which lead to a notion of Bruhat order for Weyl groupoids.
Motivated by Weyl algebra analogues of the Jacobian conjecture and the Tame Generators problem, we prove quantum versions of these problems for a family of analogues to the Weyl algebras. In particular, our results cover the Weyl-Hayashi algebras and tensor powers of a quantization of the first Weyl algebra which arises as a primitive factor algebra of $U_q^+(\mathfrak{so}_5)$.
We prove that any twisted generalized Weyl algebra satisfying certain consistency conditions can be embedded into a crossed product. We also introduce a new family of twisted generalized Weyl algebras, called multiparameter twisted Weyl algebras, for which we parametrize all simple quotients of a certain kind. Both Jordan's simple localization of the multiparameter quantized Weyl algebra and Hayashi's $q$-analog of the Weyl algebra are special cases of this construction. We classify all simple weight modules over any multiparameter twisted Weyl algebra. Extending results by Benkart and Ondrus,…
We show that to determine all solvable elements in the Weyl algebra is closely related to the Dixmier's open question. Sufficient conditions for an elements being unsolvable are given, and properties of solvable elements are obtained.
We classify up to isomorphism the quantum generalized Weyl algebras and determine their automorphism groups in all cases in a uniform way, including those where the parameter q is a root of unity, thereby completing the results obtained by [Bavula, V. V.; Jordan, D. A. Isomorphism problems and groups of automorphisms for generalized Weyl algebras. Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. 353 (2001), no. 2, 769-794] and [Richard, L.; Solotar, A. Isomorphisms between quantum generalized Weyl algebras. J. Algebra Appl. 5 (2006), no. 3, 271-285]
Twisted generalized Weyl algebras (TGWAs) $A(R,σ,t)$ are defined over a base ring $R$ by parameters $σ$ and $t$, where $σ$ is an $n$-tuple of automorphisms, and $t$ is an $n$-tuple of elements in the center of $R$. We show that, for fixed $R$ and $σ$, there is a natural algebra map $A(R,σ,tt')\to A(R,σ,t)\otimes_R A(R,σ,t')$. This gives a tensor product operation on modules, inducing a ring structure on the direct sum (over all $t$) of the Grothendieck groups of the categories of weight modules for $A(R,σ,t)$. We give presentations of these Grothendieck rings for $n=1,2$, when $R=\mathbb{C}[z]…
We first prove that for a Weyl algebra over a field of positive characteristic, its norm based extension is locally Auslander regular. We then prove that given an algebra which is Zariski locally isomorphic to the Weyl algebra, its norm based extension similarly defined is locally Auslander regular if and only if it is isomorphic to the original Weyl algebra.
We continue the development of the homological theory of quantum general linear groups previously considered by the first author. The development is used to transfer information to the representation theory of quantised Schur algebras. The acyclicity of induction from some rank-one modules for quantised Borel-Schur subalgebras is deduced. This is used to prove the exactness of the complexes recently constructed by Boltje and Maisch, giving resolutions of the co-Specht modules for Hecke algebras.
The inversion formula is given for automorphisms of the Weyl algebras with polynomial coefficients over a field of characteristic zero. The theorem of Gabber on the degree of polynomial automorphism is extended. It is proved that any automorphism of the Weyl algebra with polynomial coefficients is determined by its left (right) faces (extending the result of J. H. McKay and S. S.-S. Wang for polynomial automorphisms).
An Ore extension over a polynomial algebra F[x] is either a quantum plane, a quantum Weyl algebra, or an infinite-dimensional unital associative algebra A_h generated by elements x,y, which satisfy yx-xy = h, where h is in F[x]. When h is nonzero, these algebras are subalgebras of the Weyl algebra A_1 and can be viewed as differential operators with polynomial coefficients. In previous work, we studied the structure of A_h and determined its automorphism group and the subalgebra of invariants under the automorphism group. Here we determine the irreducible A_h-modules. In a sequel to this paper…
A short proof is given to Dixmier's 6'th problem for the Weyl algebra (and other algebras of Gelfand-Kirillov dimension which is less than 3 like rings of differential operators on smooth irreducible algebraic curves).
We observe \cite[Proposition 4.1]{LaLe} that Poisson polynomial extensions appear as semiclassical limits of a class of Ore extensions. As an application, a Poisson generalized Weyl algebra $A_1$ considered as a Poisson version of the quantum generalized Weyl algebra is constructed and its Poisson structures are studied. In particular, it is obtained a necessary and sufficient condition such that $A_1$ is Poisson simple and established that the Poisson endomorphisms of $A_1$ are Poisson analogues of the endomorphisms of the quantum generalized Weyl algebra.
Suppose a finite group acts on a scheme X and a finite-dimensional Lie algebra g. The associated equivariant map algebra is the Lie algebra of equivariant regular maps from X to g. Examples include generalized current algebras and (twisted) multiloop algebras. Local Weyl modules play an important role in the theory of finite-dimensional representations of loop algebras and quantum affine algebras. In the current paper, we extend the definition of local Weyl modules (previously defined only for generalized current algebras and twisted loop algebras) to the setting of equivariant map algebras wh…
In this paper, we study an irreducible decomposition structure of the $\Dc$-module direct image $π_+(\Oc_{ \bC^n})$ for the finite map $π: \bC^n \to \bC^n/ ({\Sc_{n_1}\times \cdots \times \Sc_{n_r}}).$ We explicitly construct the simple component of $π_+(\Oc_{\bC^n})$ by providing their generators and their multiplicities. Using an equivalence of categories and the higher Specht polynomials, we describe a $\D$-module decomposition of the polynomial ring localized at the discriminant of $π$. Furthermore, we study the action invariants, differential operators, on the higher Specht polynomials.
We show that endomorphisms of Weyl algebras over fields of characteristic zero are flat and that birational endomorphisms are automorphisms by reducing to positive characteristic. We also give examples showing that endomorphisms of Weyl algebras are not in general flat over fields of positive characteristic.
We discuss a conjecture which says that the automorphism group of the Weyl algebra in characteristic zero is canonically isomorphic to the automorphism group of the corresponding Poisson algebra of classical polynomial symbols. Several arguments in favor of this conjecture are presented, all based on the consideration of the reduction of the Weyl algebra to positive characteristic.
We study actions of pointed Hopf algebras in the $\ZZ$-graded setting. Our main result classifies inner-faithful actions of generalized Taft algebras on quantum generalized Weyl algebras which respect the $\ZZ$-grading. We also show that generically the invariant rings of Taft actions on quantum generalized Weyl algebras are commutative Kleinian singularities.
We consider decompositions of digraphs into edge-disjoint paths and describe their connection with the $n$-th Weyl algebra of differential operators. This approach gives a graph-theoretic combinatorial view of the normal ordering problem and helps to study skew-symmetric polynomials on certain subspaces of Weyl algebra. For instance, path decompositions can be used to study minimal polynomial identities on Weyl algebra, similar as Eulerian tours applicable for Amitsur--Levitzki theorem. We introduce the $G$-Stirling functions which enumerate decompositions by sources (and sinks) of paths.
We classify reflexive graded right ideals, up to isomorphism and shift, of generic cubic three dimensional Artin-Schelter regular algebras. We also determine the possible Hilbert functions of these ideals. These results are obtained by using similar methods as for quadratic Artin-Schelter algebras. In particular our results apply to the enveloping algebra of the Heisenberg-Lie algebra from which we deduce a classification of right ideals of an invariant ring of the first Weyl algebra.
