In this paper we construct separated variables for quantum integrable models related to the algebra $U_q(\hat{sl}_N)$. This generalizes the results by Sklyanin for $N=2,3$.
We consider an unified model, called ancestor model, associated with twisted trigonometric $R$ matrix which model leads to several descendant integrable lattice models related to the U$_{q^{1/2}}(\hat{sl_2})$ symmetry. Boundary operators compatible with integrability are introduced to this model. Reflection and dual reflection equations to ensure integrability of the system are shown to be same as the untwisted case. It follows that underlying symmetry of the ancestor model with integrable boundaries is identified with the q-deformed analogue of Onsager's symmetry. The transfer matrix and its …
A plane algebraic curve whose Newton polygone contains d lattice points can be given by d points it passes through. Then the coefficients of its equation Poisson commute having been regarded as functions of coordinates of those points. It is observed in the work by O.Babelon and M.Talon, 2002. We formulate a generalization of this fact in terms of separation of variables and prove relations implying the Poisson commutativity. The examples of the integrable systems obtained this way include coefficients of the Lagrange and Hermit interpolation polynomials, coefficients of the Weierstrass models…
It has been recently discovered in the context of the six vertex or XXZ model in the fundamental representation that new symmetries arise when the anisotropy parameter $(q+q^{-1})/2$ is evaluated at roots of unity $q^{N}=1$. These new symmetries have been linked to an $U(A^{(1)}_1)$ invariance of the transfer matrix and the corresponding spin-chain Hamiltonian. In this paper these results are generalized for odd primitive roots of unity to all vertex models associated with trigonometric solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation by invoking representation independent methods which only take the alge…
Using the orbit method we attempt to reveal geometric and algebraic meaning of separation of variables for the integrable systems on coadjoint orbits in an $\mathfrak{sl}(3)$ loop algebra. We consider two types of generic orbits embedded into a common manifold, endowed with two nonsingular Lie-Poisson brackets. We prove that separation of variables on orbits of both types is realized by the same variables of separation. We also construct the integrable systems on these orbits: a coupled 3-component nonlinear Schrödinger equation and an isotropic SU(3) Landau-Lifshitz equation.
Separation of variables by means of the orbit method is implemented to integrable systems on coadjoint orbits in an $\mathfrak{sl}(4)$ loop algebra. This is a development and a kind of explanation for Sklyanin's procedure of separation of variables. It is shown that points on a spectral curve serve as variables of separation for two integrable systems living on two generic orbits embedded into a common manifold. These orbits are endowed with different nonsingular Lie-Poisson brackets. Explicit expressions for the case of $\mathfrak{sl}(4)$ loop algebra are given.
An explicit homomorphism that relates the elements of the infinite dimensional non-Abelian algebra generating $O_q(\hat{sl_2})$ currents and the standard generators of the $q-$Onsager algebra is proposed. Two straightforward applications of the result are then considered: First, for the class of quantum integrable models which integrability condition originates in the $q-$Onsager spectrum generating algebra, the infinite $q-$deformed Dolan-Grady hierarchy is derived - bypassing the transfer matrix formalism. Secondly, higher Askey-Wilson relations that arise in the study of symmetric special f…
The negative symmetry flows are incorporated into the Riemann-Hilbert problem for the homogeneous $A_m$-hierarchy and its $\hat{gl} (m+1, C)$ extension. A loop group automorphism of order two is used to define a sub-hierarchy of $\hat{gl} (m+1, C)$ hierarchy containing only the odd symmetry flows. The positive and negative flows of the $\pm 1$ grade coincide with equations of the multidimensional Toda model and of topological-anti-topological fusion.
We extend Sklyanin's method of separation of variables to quantum integrable models associated to elliptic curves. After reviewing the differential case, the elliptic Gaudin model studied by Enriquez, Feigin and Rubtsov, we consider the difference case and find a class of transfer matrices whose eigenvalue problem can be solved by separation of variables. These transfer matrices are associated to representations of the elliptic quantum group $E_{τ,η}(sl_2)$ by difference operators. One model of statistical mechanics to which this method applies is the IRF model with antiperiodic boundary condi…
A notion of the generalized invariant manifold for a nonlinear integrable lattice is considered. Earlier it has been observed that this kind objects provide an effective tool for evaluating the recursion operators and Lax pairs. In this article we show with an example of the Volterra chain that the generalized invariant manifold can be used for constructing exact particular solutions as well. To this end we first find an invariant manifold depending on two constant parameters. Then we assume that ordinary difference equation defining the generalized invariant manifold has a solution polynomial…
New variables of separation for few integrable systems on the two-dimensional sphere with higher order integrals of motion are considered in detail. We explicitly describe canonical transformations of initial physical variables to the variables of separation and vice versa, calculate the corresponding quadratures and discuss some possible integrable deformations of initial systems.
Using anisotropic R-matrices associated with affine Lie algebras $\hat g$ (specifically, $A_{2n}^{(2)}, A_{2n-1}^{(2)}, B_n^{(1)}, C_n^{(1)}, D_n^{(1)}$) and suitable corresponding K-matrices, we construct families of integrable open quantum spin chains of finite length, whose transfer matrices are invariant under the quantum group corresponding to removing one node from the Dynkin diagram of $\hat g$. We show that these transfer matrices also have a duality symmetry (for the cases $C_n^{(1)}$ and $D_n^{(1)}$) and additional $Z_2$ symmetries that map complex representations to their conjugates…
We obtain the Baxter Q-operators in the $U_q(\hat{sl}_2)$ invariant integrable models as a special limits of the quantum transfer matrices corresponding to different spins in the auxiliary space both from the functional relations and from the explicit calculations. We derive the Baxter equation from the well known fusion relations for the transfer matrices. Our method is valid for an arbitrary integrable model corresponding to the quantum group $U_q(\hat{sl}_2)$ for example for the XXZ- spin chain.
We present a microscopic approach in the framework of Sklyanin's quantum separation of variables (SOV) for the exact solution of 1+1-dimensional quantum field theories by integrable lattice regularizations. Sklyanin's SOV is the natural quantum analogue of the classical method of separation of variables and it allows a more symmetric description of classical and quantum integrability w.r.t. traditional Bethe ansatz methods. Moreover, it has the advantage to be applicable to a more general class of models for which its implementation gives a characterization of the spectrum complete by construc…
We study quantum integrable models with GL(3) trigonometric $R$-matrix and solvable by the nested algebraic Bethe ansatz. Using the presentation of the universal Bethe vectors in terms of projections of products of the currents of the quantum affine algebra $U_q(\hat{\mathfrak{gl}}_3)$ onto intersections of different types of Borel subalgebras, we prove that the set of the nested Bethe vectors is closed under the action of the elements of the monodromy matrix.
Integrable quantum mechanical systems with magnetic fields are constructed in two-dimensional Euclidean space. The integral of motion is assumed to be a first or second order Hermitian operator. Contrary to the case of purely scalar potentials, quadratic integrability does not imply separation of variables in the Schroedinger equation. Moreover, quantum and classical integrable systems do not necessarily coincide: the Hamiltonian can depend on the Planck constant in a nontrivial manner.
In this paper we take further steps towards developing the separation of variables program for integrable spin chains with gl(N) symmetry. By finding, for the first time, the matrix elements of the SoV measure explicitly we were able to compute correlation functions and wave function overlaps in a simple determinant form. In particular, we show how an overlap between on-shell and off-shell algebraic Bethe states can be written as a determinant. Another result, particularly useful for AdS/CFT applications, is an overlap between two Bethe states with different twists, which also takes a determin…
We show that the space of orthogonally separable coordinates on the sphere $S^3$ induces a natural family of integrable systems, which after symplectic reduction leads to a family of integrable systems on $S^2 \times S^2$. The generic member of the family corresponds to ellipsoidal coordinates. We use the theory of compatible Poisson structures to study the critical points and critical values of the momentum map. Interesting structure arises because the ellipsoidal coordinate system can degenerate in a variety of ways, and all possible orthogonally separable coordinate systems on $S^3$ (includ…
We explore the structure of the bosonic analogues of the $k$-clustered ``parafermion'' quantum Hall states. We show how the many-boson wave functions of $k$-clustered quantum Hall droplets appear naturally as matrix elements of ladder operators in integrable representations of the affine Lie algebra $\hat{su}(2)_k$. Using results of Feigin and Stoyanovsky, we count the dimensions of spaces of symmetric polynomials with given $k$-clustering properties and show that as the droplet size grows the partition function of its edge excitations evolves into the character of the representation. This con…
A quantum integrable model related to $U_q(\hat{sl}(N))$ is considered. A reduced model is introduced which allows interpretation in terms of quantized affine Jacobi variety. Closed commutation relations for observables of reduced model are found.
We formulate the functional Bethe ansatz for bosonic (infinite dimensional) representations of the Yang-Baxter algebra. The main deviation from the standard approach consists in a half infinite 'Sklyanin lattice' made of the eigenvalues of the operator zeros of the Bethe annihilation operator. By a separation of variables, functional TQ equations are obtained for this half infinite lattice. They provide valuable information about the spectrum of a given Hamiltonian model. We apply this procedure to integrable spin-boson models subject to both twisted and open boundary conditions. In the case o…
Bi-presymplectic chains of one-forms of arbitrary co-rank are considered. The conditions in which such chains represent some Liouville integrable systems and the conditions in which there exist related bi-Hamiltonian chains of vector fields are presented. In order to derived the construction of bi-presymplectic chains, the notions of dual Poisson-presymplectic pair, d-compatibility of presymplectic forms and d-compatibility of Poisson bivectors is used. The completely algorithmic construction of separation coordinates is demonstrated. It is also proved that Stäckel separable systems have bi-in…
Using the example of Liouville theory, we show how the separation into left- and rightmoving degrees of freedom of a nonrational conformal field theory can be made explicit in terms of its integrable structure. The key observation is that there exist separate Baxter Q-operators for left- and right-moving degrees of freedom. Combining a study of the analytic properties of the Q-operators with Sklyanin's Separation of Variables Method leads to a complete characterization of the spectrum. Taking the continuum limit allows us in particular to rederive the Liouville reflection amplitude using only …
Supersymmetrical intertwining relations of second order in the derivatives are investigated for the case of supercharges with deformed hyperbolic metric $g_{ik}=diag(1,-a^2)$. Several classes of particular solutions of these relations are found. The corresponding Hamiltonians do not allow the conventional separation of variables, but they commute with symmetry operators of fourth order in momenta. For some of these models the specific SUSY procedure of separation of variables is applied.
In this paper we apply our new separation of variables approach to completely characterize the transfer matrix spectrum for quantum integrable lattice models associated to fundamental evaluation representations of $\mathcal{U}_{q} (\widehat{gl_{n}})$ with general quasi-periodic boundary conditions. We consider here the case of generic deformations associated to a parameter $q$ which is not a root of unity. The Separation of Variables (SoV) basis for the transfer matrix spectral problem is generated by using the action of the transfer matrix itself on a generic co-vector of the Hilbert space, f…
The relation between solutions to Helmholtz's equation on the sphere $S^{n-1}$ and the $[{\gr sl}(2)]^n$ Gaudin spin chain is clarified. The joint eigenfuctions of the Laplacian and a complete set of commuting second order operators suggested by the $R$--matrix approach to integrable systems, based on the loop algebra $\wt{sl}(2)_R$, are found in terms of homogeneous polynomials in the ambient space. The relation of this method of determining a basis of harmonic functions on $S^{n-1}$ to the Bethe ansatz approach to integrable systems is explained.
The g-function is a measure of degrees of freedom associated to a boundary of two-dimensional quantum field theories. In integrable theories, it can be computed exactly in a form of the Fredholm determinant, but it is often hard to evaluate numerically. In this paper, we derive functional equations---or equivalently integral equations of the thermodynamic Bethe ansatz (TBA) type---which directly compute the g-function in the simplest integrable theory; the sinh-Gordon theory at the self-dual point. The derivation is based on the classic result by Tracy and Widom on the relation between Fredhol…
We construct the 1- and 2-point integrable maps (Bäcklund transformations) for the symmetric Lagrange top. We show that the Lagrange top has the same algebraic Poisson structure that belongs to the $sl(2)$ Gaudin magnet. The 2-point map leads to a real time-discretization of the continuous flow. Therefore, it provides an integrable numerical scheme for integrating the physical flow. We illustrate the construction by few pictures of the discrete flow calculated in MATLAB.
We construct quantum Separation of Variables (SoV) bases for both the fundamental inhomogeneous $gl_{\mathcal{M}|\mathcal{N}}$ supersymmetric integrable models and for the inhomogeneous Hubbard model both defined with quasi-periodic twisted boundary conditions given by twist matrices having simple spectrum. The SoV bases are obtained by using the integrable structure of these quantum models,i.e. the associated commuting transfer matrices, following the general scheme introduced in [1]; namely, they are given by set of states generated by the multiple action of the transfer matrices on a generi…
An integral presentation for the scalar products of nested Bethe vectors for the quantum integrable models associated with the quantum affine algebra $U_q(\hat{\mathfrak{gl}}_3)$ is given. This result is obtained in the framework of the universal Bethe ansatz, using presentation of the universal Bethe vectors in terms of the total currents of a "new" realization of the quantum affine algebra $U_q(\hat{\mathfrak{gl}}_3)$.
This article, based on the author's PhD thesis, reviews recent advancements in the field of quantum integrability, in particular the separation of variables (SoV) program for high-rank integrable spin chains and the boost mechanism for solving the Yang-Baxter equation. We begin with a general overview of quantum integrable systems with special emphasis on their description in terms of quantum algebras. We then provide a detailed account of the Yangian of $\mathfrak{gl}(n)$ in particular the Bethe algebra, fusion, and T- and Q-systems. We then introduce the notion of separation of variables in …
In this paper we construct integrable three-dimensional quantum-mechanical systems with magnetic fields, admitting pairs of commuting second-order integrals of motion. The case of Cartesian coordinates is considered. Most of the systems obtained are new and not related to the separation of variables in the corresponding Schrödinger equation.
For an integrable Hamiltonian system we construct a representation of the phase space symmetry algebra over the space of functions on a Lagrangian manifold. The representation is a result of the canonical quantization of the integrable system in terms of separation variables. The variables are chosen in such way that a half of them parameterizes the Lagrangian manifold, which coincides with the Liouville torus of the integrable system. The obtained representation is indecomposable and non-exponentiated.
We apply our new approach of quantum Separation of Variables (SoV) to the complete characterization of the transfer matrix spectrum of quantum integrable lattice models associated to gl(n)-invariant R-matrices in the fundamental representations. We consider lattices with N sites and quasi-periodic boundary conditions associated to an arbitrary twist K having simple spectrum (but not necessarily diagonalizable). In our approach the SoV basis is constructed in an universal manner starting from the direct use of the conserved charges of the models, i.e., from the commuting family of transfer matr…
We discuss the Poisson structures, Lax matrices, $r$-matrices, bi-hamiltonian structures, the variables of separation and other attributes of the modern theory of dynamical systems in application to the integrable Euler top and to the nonholonomic Chaplygin ball.
The Stäckel separability of a Hamiltonian system is well known to ensure existence of a complete set of Poisson commuting integrals of motion quadratic in the momenta. In the present paper we consider a class of Stäckel separable systems where the entries of the Stäckel matrix are monomials in the separation variables. We show that the only systems in this class for which the integrals of motion arising from the Stäckel construction keep commuting after quantization are, up to natural equivalence transformations, the so-called Benenti systems. Moreover, it turns out that the latter are the onl…
We derive exactly scalar products and form factors for integrable higher-spin XXZ chains through the algebraic Bethe-ansatz method. Here spin values are arbitrary and different spins can be mixed. We show the affine quantum-group symmetry, $U_q(\hat{sl_2})$, for the monodromy matrix of the XXZ spin chain, and then obtain the exact expressions. Furthermore, through the quantum-group symmetry we explicitly derive the diagonalized forms of the $B$ and $C$ operators in the $F$-basis for the spin-1/2 XXZ spin chain, which was conjectured in the algebraic Bethe-ansatz calculation of the XXZ correlat…
We perform separation of variables for the symplectic Weyl character using Sklyanin's scheme. Viewing the characters as eigenfunctions of a quantum integrable system, we explicitly construct the separating operator using the Q-operator method. We also construct the inverse of the separating operator, as well as the factorised Hamiltonian.
We study certain subspaces of solutions to the sl_2 rational qKZ equation at level zero. Each subspace is specified by the vanishing of the residue at a certain divisor which stems from models in two dimensional integrable field theories. We determine the character of the subspace which is parametrized by the number of variables and the sl_2 weight of the solutions. The sum of all characters with a fixed weight gives rise to the branching functions of the irreducible representations of sl_2 in the level one integrable highest weight representations of \hat{sl_2}. It is written in the fermionic…
We consider two well-known integrable systems on the plane using the concept of natural Poisson bivectors on Riemaninan manifolds. Geometric approach to construction of variables of separation and separated relations for the generalized Henon-Heiles system and the generalized system with quartic potential is discussed in detail.
This survey examines separation of variables for algebraically integrable Hamiltonian systems whose tori are Jacobians of Riemann surfaces. For these cases there is a natural class of systems which admit separations in a nice geometric sense. This class includes many of the well-known cases.
We implement our new Separation of Variables (SoV) approach for open quantum integrable models associated to higher rank representations of the reflection algebras. We construct the (SoV) basis for the fundamental representations of the $Y(gl_n)$ reflection algebra associated to general integrable boundary conditions. Moreover, we give the conditions on the boundary $K$-matrices allowing for the transfer matrix to be diagonalizable with simple spectrum. These SoV basis are then used to completely characterize the transfer matrix spectrum for the rank one and two reflection algebras. The rank o…
In this paper we consider the possibility of application of the quantum inverse scattering method for studying the superconformal field theory and it's integrable perturbations. The classical limit of the considered constructions is based on $\hat{osp}(1|2)$ super-KdV hierarchy. The quantum counterpart of the monodromy matrix corresponding to the linear problem associated with the L-operator is introduced. Using the explicit form of the irreducible representations of $\hat{osp}_q(1|2)$, the ``fusion relations'' for the transfer-matrices (i.e. the traces of the monodromy matrices in different r…
We construct a Poisson map between manifolds with linear Poisson brackets corresponding to the Lie algebras $e(3)$ and $so(4)$. Using this map we establish a connection between the deformed Kowalevski top on $e(3)$ proposed by Sokolov and the Kowalevski top on $so(4)$. The connection between these systems leads to the separation of variables for the deformed system on $e(3)$ and yields the natural $5\times 5$ Lax pair for the Kowalevski top on $so(4)$.
First, we establish the relation between the associated varieties of modules over Kac-Moody algebras \hat{g} and those over affine W-algebras. Second, we prove the Feigin-Frenkel conjecture on the singular supports of G-integrable admissible representations. In fact we show that the associated variates of G-integrable admissible representations are irreducible G-invariant subvarieties of the nullcone of g, by determining them explicitly. Third, we prove the C_2-cofiniteness of a large number of simple W-algebras, including all minimal series principal W-algebras and the exceptional W-algebras …
We review the separation of variables for the Kowalevski top and for its generalization to the algebra o(4). We notice that the corresponding separation equations allow an interpretation of the Kowalevski top as a B2 integrable lattice. Consequently, we apply the quadratic r-matrix formalism to construct a new 2x2 Lax matrix for the top, which is responsible for its separation of variables.
The U_q(\hat{sl}_2) vertex model at q=0 with periodic boundary condition is an integrable cellular automaton in one-dimension. By the combinatorial Bethe ansatz, the initial value problem is solved for arbitrary states in terms of an ultradiscrete analogue of the Riemann theta function with rational characteristics.
Separation of variables (SoV) is a special property of integrable models which ensures that the wavefunction has a very simple factorised form in a specially designed basis. Even though the factorisation of the wavefunction was recently established for higher rank models by two of the authors and G. Sizov, the measure for the scalar product was not known beyond the case of rank one symmetry. In this paper we show how this measure can be found, bypassing an explicit SoV construction. A key new observation is that the measure for spin chains in a highest-weight infinite dimensional representatio…
In this paper we study the Yang-Baxter integrable structure of Conformal Field Theories with extended conformal symmetry generated by the W_3 algebra. We explicitly construct various T- and Q-operators which act in the irreducible highest weight modules of the W_3 algebra. These operators can be viewed as continuous field theory analogues of the commuting transfer matrices and Q-matrices of the integrable lattice systems associated with the quantum algebra U_q(\hat{sl}(3)). We formulate several conjectures detailing certain analytic characteristics of the Q-operators and propose exact asymptot…
An infinite family of exactly-solvable and integrable potentials on a plane is introduced. It is shown that all already known rational potentials with the above properties allowing separation of variables in polar coordinates are particular cases of this family. The underlying algebraic structure of the new potentials is revealed as well as its hidden algebra. We conjecture that all members of the family are also superintegrable and demonstrate this for the first few cases. A quasi-exactly-solvable and integrable generalization of the family is found.
We propose the integrable N-dimensional Calogero-Coulomb-Stark and two-center Calogero-Coulomb systems and construct their constants of motion via the Dunkl operators. Their Schrödinger equations decouple in parabolic and elliptic coordinates into the set of three differential equations like for the Coulomb-Stark and two-center Coulomb problems. The Calogero term preserves the energy levels, but changes their degrees of degeneracy.
