We derive exactly scalar products and form factors for integrable higher-spin XXZ chains through the algebraic Bethe-ansatz method. Here spin values are arbitrary and different spins can be mixed. We show the affine quantum-group symmetry, $U_q(\hat{sl_2})$, for the monodromy matrix of the XXZ spin chain, and then obtain the exact expressions. Furthermore, through the quantum-group symmetry we explicitly derive the diagonalized forms of the $B$ and $C$ operators in the $F$-basis for the spin-1/2 XXZ spin chain, which was conjectured in the algebraic Bethe-ansatz calculation of the XXZ correlation functions. The results should be fundamental in studying form factors and correlation functions systematically for various solvable models associated with the integrable XXZ spin chains.
Revising the derivation of the previous papers, for the integrable spin-$s$ XXZ chain we express any form factor in terms of a single sum over scalar products of the spin-1/2 XXZ chain. With the revised method we express the spin-$s$ XXZ correlation function of any given entry at zero temperature in terms of a single sum of multiple integrals.
We consider integrable deformations of the XXZ spin chain for periodic and open boundary conditions. In particular, we classify all long-range deformations and study their impact on the spectrum. As compared to the XXX case, we have the z-spin at our disposal, which induces two additional deformations: the short-range magnetic twist and a new long-range momentum-dependent twist.
For the integrable higher-spin XXX and XXZ spin chains we present multiple-integral representations for the correlation function of an arbitrary product of Hermitian elementary matrices in the massless ground state. We give a formula expressing it by a single term of multiple integrals. In particular, we explicitly derive the emptiness formation probability (EFP). We assume $2s$-strings for the ground-state solution of the Bethe ansatz equations for the spin-$s$ XXZ chain, and solve the integral equations for the spin-$s$ Gaudin matrix. In terms of the XXZ coupling $Δ$ we define $ζ$ by $Δ=\cos…
We discuss some fundamental properties of the XXZ spin chain, which are important in the algebraic Bethe-ansatz derivation for the multiple-integral representations of the spin-s XXZ correlation function with an arbitrary product of elementary matrices. For instance, we construct Hermitian conjugate vectors in the massless regime and introduce the spin-s Hermitian elementary matrices.
We calculate the scalar product of Bethe states of the XXZ spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ chain with general integrable boundary conditions. The off-shell equations satisfied by the transfer matrix and the off-shell Bethe vectors allow one to derive a linear system for the scalar product of off-shell and on-shell Bethe states. We show that this linear system can be solved in terms of a compact determinant formula that involves the Jacobian of the transfer matrix eigenvalue and certain q-Pochhammer polynomials of the boundary couplings.
For the integrable spin-s XXZ chain we express explicitly any given spin-$s$ form factor in terms of a sum over the scalar products of the spin-1/2 operators. Here they are given by the operator-valued matrix elements of the monodromy matrix of the spin-1/2 XXZ spin chain. In the paper we call an arbitrary matrix element of a local operator between two Bethe eigenstates a form factor of the operator. We derive all important formulas of the fusion method in detail. We thus revise the derivation of the higher-spin XXZ form factors given in a previous paper. The revised method has several interes…
We show some symmetry relations among the correlation functions of the integrable higher-spin XXX and XXZ spin chains, where we explicitly evaluate the multiple integrals representing the one-point functions in the spin-1 case. We review the multiple-integral representations of correlation functions for the integrable higher-spin XXZ chains derived in a region of the massless regime including the anti-ferromagnetic point. Here we make use of the gauge transformations between the symmetric and asymmetric R-matrices, which correspond to the principal and homogeneous gradings, respectively, and w…
We investigate the integrable higher spin XXZ chain at the Razumov-Stroganov point. We present a method to evaluate the exact value of the eigenvalue which is conjectured to correspond to the groundstate of the Hamiltonian for finite size chain from the Baxter Q operator. This allows us to examine the exact total energy difference between different number of total sites, from which we find strong evidence for the absence of finite size correction to the groundstate energy.
We study the matrix elements of local operators in the eigenstates of the integrable XXZ chain and of the quantum-chaotic model obtained by locally perturbing the XXZ chain with a magnetic impurity. We show that, at frequencies that are polynomially small in the system size, the behavior of the variances of the off-diagonal matrix elements can be starkly different depending on the operator. In the integrable model we find that, as the frequency $ω\rightarrow0$, the variances are either nonvanishing (generic behavior) or vanishing (for a special class of operators). In the quantum-chaotic model…
Finding out root patterns of quantum integrable models is an important step to study their physical properties in the thermodynamic limit. Especially for models without $U(1)$ symmetry, their spectra are usually given by inhomogeneous $T-Q$ relations and the Bethe root patterns are still unclear. In this paper with the antiperiodic $XXZ$ spin chain as an example, an analytic method to derive both the Bethe root patterns and the transfer-matrix root patterns in the thermodynamic limit is proposed. Based on them the ground state energy and elementary excitations in the gapped regime are derived.…

We will review some known exact solutions for the steady state of the open quantum Heisenberg $XXZ$ spin chain coupled to a pair of baths [Phys. Rev. Lett. 107, 137201 (2011).]. The dynamics is modelled by the Lindblad master equation. We also review how to calculate some relevant physical observables and provide the statistics of spin current assuming the spin chain is weakly coupled to the baths [Phys. Rev. Lett. 112, 067201 (2014).].
We propose an extension of the numerical approach for integrable Richardson-Gaudin models based on a new set of eigenvalue-based variables. Starting solely from the Gaudin algebra, the approach is generalized towards the full class of XXZ Richardson-Gaudin models. This allows for a fast and robust numerical determination of the spectral properties of these models, avoiding the singularities usually arising at the so-called singular points. We also provide different determinant expressions for the normalization of the Bethe Ansatz states and form factors of local spin operators, opening up poss…
We present an expression for the generating function of correlation functions of the sine-Gordon integrable field theory on a cylinder, with compact space. This is derived from the Destri-De Vega integrable lattice regularization of the theory, formulated as an inhomogeneous Heisenberg XXZ spin chain, and from more recent advances in the computations of spin form factors in the thermodynamic limit.
The hamiltonian of an asymmetric diffusion process with injection and ejection of particles at the ends of a chain of finite length is known to be relevant to that of the spin-1/2 XXZ chain with integrable boundary terms. However, the inclusion of boundary sources and sinks of particles breaks the arrow-reversal symmetry necessary for solution via the usual Bethe Ansatz approach. Developments in solving the model in the absence of arrow-reversal symmetry are discussed.
In this article we demonstrate a recently developed technique which addresses the problem of obtaining non-universal prefactors of the correlation functions of 1D systems at zero temperature. Our approach combines the effective field theory description of generic 1D quantum liquids with the finite size scaling of form factors (matrix elements) which are obtained using microscopic techniques developed in the context of integrable models. We thus establish exact analytic forms for the prefactors of the long-distance behavior of equal time correlation functions as well as prefactors of singularit…
We investigate special solutions to the Bethe Ansatz equations (BAE) for open integrable $XXZ$ Heisenberg spin chains containing phantom (infinite) Bethe roots. The phantom Bethe roots do not contribute to the energy of the Bethe state, so the energy is determined exclusively by the remaining regular excitations. We rederive the phantom Bethe roots criterion and focus on BAE solutions for mixtures of phantom roots and regular (finite) Bethe roots. We prove that in the presence of phantom Bethe roots, all eigenstates are split between two invariant subspaces, spanned by chiral shock states. Bet…
Quantum integrable systems, such as the interacting Bose gas in one dimension and the XXZ quantum spin chain, have an extensive number of local conserved quantities that endow them with exotic thermalization and transport properties. We discuss recently introduced hydrodynamic approaches for such integrable systems from the viewpoint of kinetic theory and extend the previous works by proposing a numerical scheme to solve the hydrodynamic equations for finite times and arbitrary locally equilibrated initial conditions. We then discuss how such methods can be applied to describe non-equilibrium …

We address the computation of the Loschmidt echo in interacting integrable spin chains after a quantum quench. We focus on the massless regime of the XXZ spin-1/2 chain and present exact results for the dynamical free energy (Loschmidt echo per site) for a special class of integrable initial states. For the first time we are able to observe and describe points of non-analyticities using exact methods, by following the Loschmidt echo up to large real times. The dynamical free energy is computed as the leading eigenvalue of an appropriate Quantum Transfer Matrix, and the non-analyticities arise …
The XXZ open spin chain with general integrable boundary conditions is shown to possess a q-deformed analogue of the Onsager's algebra as fundamental non-abelian symmetry which ensures the integrability of the model. This symmetry implies the existence of a finite set of independent mutually commuting nonlocal operators which form an abelian subalgebra. The transfer matrix and local conserved quantities, for instance the Hamiltonian, are expressed in terms of these nonlocal operators. It follows that Onsager's original approach of the planar Ising model can be extended to the XXZ open spin cha…
Using the algebraic Bethe ansatz method, and the solution of the quantum inverse scattering problem for local spins, we obtain multiple integral representations of the $n$-point correlation functions of the XXZ Heisenberg spin-$1 \over 2$ chain in a constant magnetic field. For zero magnetic field, this result agrees, in both the massless and massive (anti-ferromagnetic) regimes, with the one obtained from the q-deformed KZ equations (massless regime) and the representation theory of the quantum affine algebra ${\cal U}_q (\hat{sl}_2)$ together with the corner transfer matrix approach (massive…
In this note we relate the Hamiltonian of the integrable non-compact spin $s$ XXZ chain to the Markov generator of a stochastic particle process. The hopping rates of the continuous-time process are identified with the ones of a q-Hahn asymmetric zero range model. The main difference with the asymmetric simple exclusion process (ASEP), which can be mapped to the ordinary XXZ spin chain, is that multiple particles can occupy one and the same site. For the non-compact spin $\frac{1}{2}$ XXZ chain the associated stochastic process reduces to the multiparticle asymmetric diffusion model introduced…
In spin chains with local unitary evolution preserving the magnetization $S^{\rm z}$, the domain-wall state $\left| \dots \uparrow \uparrow \uparrow \uparrow \uparrow \downarrow \downarrow \downarrow \downarrow \downarrow \dots \right>$ typically "melts". At large times, a non-trivial magnetization profile develops in an expanding region around the initial position of the domain-wall. For non-integrable dynamics the melting is diffusive, with entropy production within a melted region of size $\sqrt{t}$. In contrast, when the evolution is integrable, ballistic transport dominates and results in…
Motivated by recent investigations of transport properties of strongly correlated 1d models and thermal conductivity measurements of quasi 1d magnetic systems we present results for the integrable spin-1/2 $XXZ$ chain. The thermal conductivity $κ(ω)$ of this model has $\Reκ(ω)=\tildeκδ(ω)$, i.e. it is infinite for zero frequency $ω$. The weight $\tildeκ$ of the delta peak is calculated exactly by a lattice path integral formulation. Numerical results for wide ranges of temperature and anisotropy are presented. The low and high temperature limits are studied analytically.
In this paper we apply the nested algebraic Bethe ansatz to compute the eigenvalues and the Bethe equations of the transfer matrix of the new integrable Lindbladian found in [1]. We show that it can be written as an integrable spin chain consisting of two interacting XXZ spin chains. We numerically compute the Liouville gap and its dependence on the parameters in the system such as scaling with the system length and interaction strength.
The integrable XXZ alternating spin chain with generic non-diagonal boundary terms specified by the most general non-diagonal K-matrices is studied via the off-diagonal Bethe Ansatz method. Based on the intrinsic properties of the fused R-matrices and K-matrices, we obtain certain closed operator identities and conditions, which allow us to construct an inhomogeneous T-Q relation and the associated Bethe Ansatz equations accounting for the eigenvalues of the transfer matrix.
Generalized Hydrodynamics is a recent theory that describes the large scale transport properties of one dimensional integrable models. At the heart of this theory lies an exact quantum-classical correspondence, which states that the flows of the conserved quantities are essentially quasi-classical even in the interacting quantum many body models. We provide the algebraic background to this observation, by embedding the current operators of the integrable spin chains into the canonical framework of Yang-Baxter integrability. Our construction can be applied in a large variety of models including…
The half-infinite XXZ open spin chain with general integrable boundary conditions is considered within the recently developed `Onsager's approach'. Inspired by the finite size case, for any type of integrable boundary conditions it is shown that the transfer matrix is simply expressed in terms of the elements of a new type of current algebra recently introduced. In the massive regime $-1<q<0$, level one infinite dimensional representation ($q-$vertex operators) of the new current algebra are constructed in order to diagonalize the transfer matrix. For diagonal boundary conditions, known result…
We study an effective Hamiltonian generating time evolution of states on intermediate time scales in the strong-coupling limit of the spin-1/2 XXZ model. To leading order, it describes an integrable model with local interactions. We solve it completely by means of a coordinate Bethe Ansatz that manifestly breaks the translational symmetry. We demonstrate the existence of exponentially many jammed states and estimate their stability under the leading correction to the effective Hamiltonian. Some ground state properties of the model are discussed.
We construct defects in the XXZ and sine-Gordon models by making use of the representation theory of quantum affine sl_2. The representations involved are generalisations of the infinite-dimensional, q-oscillator representations used in the construction of Q-operators. We present new results for intertwiners of these representations, and use them to consider both quantum spin-chain Hamiltonians with defects and quantum defects in the sine-Gordon model. We connect specialisations our results with the work of Corrigan and Zambon on type I and type II defects, and present sine-Gordon soliton/defe…
We consider the integrable one-dimensional spin-$1$ chain defined by the Zamolodchikov-Fateev (ZF) Hamiltonian. The latter is parametrized, analogously to the XXZ spin-$1/2$ model, by a continuous anisotropy parameter and at the isotropic point coincides with the well-known spin-$1$ Babujian-Takhtajan Hamiltonian. Following a procedure recently developed for the XXZ model, we explicitly construct a continuous family of quasi-local conserved operators for the periodic spin-$1$ ZF chain. Our construction is valid for a dense set of commensurate values of the anisotropy parameter in the gapless r…
Diffusion-limited erosion is a distinct universality class of fluctuating interfaces. Although its dynamical exponent $z=1$, none of the known variants of conformal invariance can act as its dynamical symmetry. In $d=1$ spatial dimensions, its infinite-dimensional dynamic symmetry is constructed and shown to be isomorphic to the direct sum of three loop-Virasoro algebras, with the maximal finite-dimensional sub-algebra $\mathfrak{sl}(2,\mathbb{R})\oplus\mathfrak{sl}(2,\mathbb{R})\oplus\mathfrak{sl}(2,\mathbb{R})$. The infinitesimal generators are spatially non-local and use the Riesz-Feller fr…
The level-spacing distributions of XXZ spin chains with next-nearest-neighbor couplings are studied under periodic boundary conditions. We confirm that integrable XXZ spin chains mostly have the Poisson distribution as expected. On the contrary, the level-spacing distributions of next-nearest-neighbor coupled XXZ chains are given by non-Wigner distributions. It is against the expectations, since the models are nonintegrable.
Form factors for local spin operators of the XXZ Heisenberg spin-1/2 finite chain are computed. Representation theory of Drinfel'd twists for the sl2 quantum affine algebra in finite dimensional modules is used to calculate scalar products of Bethe states (leading to Gaudin formula) and to solve the quantum inverse problem for local spin operators in the finite XXZ chain. Hence, we obtain the representation of the n-spin correlation functions in terms of expectation values(in ferromagnetic reference state) of the operator entries of the quantum monodromy matrix satisfying Yang-Baxter algebra. …
We consider multi-point correlation functions in the open XXZ chain with longitudinal boundary fields and in a uniform external magnetic field. We show that, at finite temperature, these correlation functions can be written in the quantum transfer matrix framework as sums over thermal form factors. More precisely, and quite remarkably, each term of the sum is given by a simple product of usual matrix elements of the quantum transfer matrix multiplied by a unique factor containing the whole information about the boundary fields. As an example, we provide a detailed expression for the longitudin…
We use non-equilibrium steady states to study the effect of dissipation-assisted operator evolution (DAOE) on the scaling behavior of transport in one-dimensional spin chains. We consider three models in the XXZ family: the XXZ model with staggered anisotropy, which is chaotic; XXZ model with no external field and tunable interaction, which is Bethe ansatz integrable and (in the zero interaction limit) free fermion integrable; and the disordered XY model, which is free-fermion integrable and Anderson localized. We find evidence that DAOE's effect on transport is controlled by its effect on the…
The thermodynamic properties of the XXZ spin chain with integrable open boundary conditions at the gaped region (i.e., the anisotropic parameter $η$ being a real number) are investigated. It is shown that the contribution of the inhomogeneous term in the $T-Q$ relation of the ground state and elementary excited state can be neglected when the size of the system $N$ tends to infinity. The surface energy and elementary excitations induced by the unparallel boundary magnetic fields are obtained.
Non-polynomial Baxterized solutions of reflection equations associated with affine Hecke and affine Birman-Murakami-Wenzl algebras are found. Relations to integrable spin chain models with nontrivial boundary conditions are discussed.
We introduce a deformation of the affine Hecke algebra of type GL which describes the commutation relations of the divided difference operators found by Lascoux and Schutzenberger and the multiplication operators. Making use of its representation we construct an integrable stochastic particle system. It is a generalization of the q-Boson system due to Sasamoto and Wadati. We also construct eigenfunctions of its generator using the propagation operator. As a result we get the same eigenfunctions for the (q, μ, ν)-Boson process obtained by Povolotsky.
In this work we analyze the simultaneous emergence of diffusive energy transport and local thermalization in a nonequilibrium one-dimensional quantum system, as a result of integrability breaking. Specifically, we discuss the local properties of the steady state induced by thermal boundary driving in a XXZ spin chain with staggered magnetic field. By means of efficient large-scale matrix product simulations of the equation of motion of the system, we calculate its steady state in the long-time limit. We start by discussing the energy transport supported by the system, finding it to be ballistic…
We study the statistical properties of the off-diagonal matrix elements of observables in the energy eigenstates of integrable quantum systems. They have been found to be dense in the spin-1/2 XXZ chain, while they are sparse in noninteracting systems. We focus on the quasimomentum occupation of hard-core bosons in one dimension, and show that the distributions of the off-diagonal matrix elements are well described by generalized Gamma distributions, in both the presence and absence of translational invariance but not in the presence of localization. We also show that the results obtained for …
We study the bipartite von Neumann entanglement entropy and matrix elements of local operators in the eigenstates of an interacting integrable Hamiltonian (the paradigmatic spin-1/2 XXZ chain), and we contrast their behavior with that of quantum chaotic systems. We find that the leading term of the average (over all eigenstates in the zero magnetization sector) eigenstate entanglement entropy has a volume-law coefficient that is smaller than the universal (maximal entanglement) one in quantum chaotic systems. This establishes the entanglement entropy as a powerful measure to distinguish integr…
With the XXZ spin chains as examples, we prove two theorems: (1) the functional relations derived from the off-diagonal Bethe Ansatz scheme are the sufficient and necessary conditions to characterize the complete spectrum of the corresponding transfer matrix; (2) each eigenvalue of the transfer matrix can be parameterized by a minimal inhomogeneous T-Q relation. These statements hold for both with and without inhomogeneity. The proof can be generalized to other finite-dimensional quantum integrable models.
We develop a new method to compute the exact overlaps between integrable boundary states and on-shell Bethe states for integrable spin chains. Our method is based on the coordinate Bethe Ansatz and does not rely on the "rotation trick" of the corresponding lattice model. It leads to a rigorous proof of the factorized overlap formulas in a number of cases, some of which were inaccessible to earlier methods. As concrete examples, we consider the compact XXX and XXZ Heisenberg spin chains, and the non-compact $SL(2,\mathbb{R})$ spin chain.
For a class of typical states, the real-time and real-space dynamics of non-equilibrium density profiles has been recently studied for integrable models, i.e. the spin-1/2 XXZ chain [PRB 95, 035155 (2017)] and the Fermi-Hubbard chain [PRE 96, 020105 (2017)]. It has been found that the non-equilibrium dynamics agrees with linear response theory. Moreover, in the regime of strong interactions, clear signatures of diffusion have been observed. However, this diffusive behavior strongly depends on the choice of the initial state and disappears for untypical states without internal randomness. In th…
Recently found spin-flip non-invariant (SFNI) conserved quantities play important roles in discussing nonequilibrium physics of the XXZ model. The representative examples are the generalized Gibbs ensemble (GGE) and the ballistic transport of the spin current. In spite of big progress in understanding nonequilibrium physics of integrable systems, the general framework to determine a minimal complete set of conserved quantities which describes the long-time steady state has not yet been found. This paper shows that the GGE of the gapless XXZ model consists of functionally independent conserved …
The spectra which occur in numerical density-matrix renormalization group (DMRG) calculations for quantum chains can be obtained analytically for integrable models via corner transfer matrices. This is shown in detail for the transverse Ising chain and the uniaxial XXZ Heisenberg model and explains in particular their exponential character in these cases.
These notes are based on a series of three lectures given at the Les Houches summer school on 'Integrability in Atomic and Condensed Matter Physics' in August 2018. They provide an introduction into the unusual transport properties of integrable models in the linear response regime focussing, in particular, on the spin-1/2 XXZ spin chain.
We compute the Drude weight and the critical exponents as functions of the density in non-integrable generalizations of XXZ or Hubbard chains, in the critical zero temperature regime where Luttinger liquid description breaks down and Bethe ansatz cannot be used. Even in the regions where irrelevant terms dominate, no difference between integrable and non integrable models appear in exponents and conductivity. Our results are based on a fully rigorous two-regime multiscale analysis and a recently introduced partially solvable model.
In this contribution we review the theory of integrability of quantum systems in one spatial dimension. We introduce the basic concepts such as the Yang-Baxter equation, commuting currents, and the algebraic Bethe ansatz. Quite extensively we present the treatment of integrable quantum systems at finite temperature on the basis of a lattice path integral formulation and a suitable transfer matrix approach (quantum transfer matrix). The general method is carried out for the seminal model of the spin-1/2 $XXZ$ chain for which thermodynamic properties like specific heat, magnetic susceptibility a…
We address the nature of spin transport in the integrable XXZ spin chain, focusing on the isotropic Heisenberg limit. We calculate the diffusion constant using a kinetic picture based on generalized hydrodynamics combined with Gaussian fluctuations: we find that it diverges, and show that a self-consistent treatment of this divergence gives superdiffusion, with an effective time-dependent diffusion constant that scales as $D(t) \sim t^{1/3}$. This exponent had previously been observed in large-scale numerical simulations, but had not been theoretically explained. We briefly discuss XXZ models …
We study spinon excitations of the integrable spin-1 (Fateev-Zamolodchikov; FZ) chain and their relation to the hidden supersymmetry. Using the notion of the supercharges earlier introduced to the spin chains, which change the system length by one, we found that they nontrivially act on one of two kinds of the degrees of freedom for the FZ chain. Their actions were obtained to be the same as those of the supercharges defined on the supersymmetric sine-Gordon model, the low-energy effective field theory of the FZ chain. Moreover, we construct the eigenstates which are invariant under the supers…
