Using the example of Liouville theory, we show how the separation into left- and rightmoving degrees of freedom of a nonrational conformal field theory can be made explicit in terms of its integrable structure. The key observation is that there exist separate Baxter Q-operators for left- and right-moving degrees of freedom. Combining a study of the analytic properties of the Q-operators with Sklyanin's Separation of Variables Method leads to a complete characterization of the spectrum. Taking the continuum limit allows us in particular to rederive the Liouville reflection amplitude using only the integrable structure.
We discuss the problem to develop a mathematical theory of a certain class of nonrational conformal field theories (CFT) which contain the unitary CFT. A variant of the concept of a modular functor is proposed that appears to be suitable for such CFT.
In these notes we study integrable structures of conformal field theory with $\textrm{BCD}$ symmetry. We realise these integrable structures as affine Yangian $\mathfrak{gl}(1)$ "spin chains" with boundaries. We provide three solutions of Sklyanin $\textrm{KRKR}$ equation compatible with affine Yangian $R$-matrix and derive Bethe ansatz equations for the spectrum.
In this work we initiate an integrability-based approach to multipoint conformal blocks for higher dimensional conformal field theories. Our main observation is that conformal blocks for $N$-point functions may be considered as eigenfunctions of integrable Gaudin Hamiltonians. This provides us with a complete set of differential equations that can be used to evaluate multipoint blocks.
We split the generic conformal mechanical system into a "radial" and an "angular" part, where the latter is defined as the Hamiltonian system on the orbit of the conformal group, with the Casimir function in the role of the Hamiltonian. We reduce the analysis of the constants of motion of the full system to the study of certain differential equations on this orbit. For integrable mechanical systems, the conformal invariance renders them superintegrable, yielding an additional series of conserved quantities originally found by Wojciechowski in the rational Calogero model. Finally, we show that,…
In this paper we relate a problem in representation theory - the study of Yetter-Drinfeld modules over certain braided Hopf algebras - to a problem in two-dimensional quantum field theory, namely the identification of integrable perturbations of a conformal field theory. A prescription that parallels Lusztig's construction allows one to read off the quantum group governing the integrable symmetry. As an example, we illustrate how the quantum group for the loop algebra of sl(2) appears in the integrable structure of the perturbed uncompactified and compactified free boson.
We study integrable deformations of sine-Liouville conformal field theory. Every integrable perturbation of this model is related to the series of quantum integrals of motion (hierarchy). We construct the factorized scattering matrices for different integrable perturbed conformal field theories. The perturbation theory, Bethe ansatz technique, renormalization group and methods of perturbed conformal field theory are applied to show that all integrable deformations of sine-Liouville model possess non-trivial duality properties.
We continue to investigate the relationship between the infrared physics of N=2 supersymmetric gauge theories in four dimensions and various integrable models such as Gaudin, Calogero-Moser and quantum spin chains. We prove interesting dualities among some of these integrable systems by performing different, albeit equivalent, quantizations of the Seiberg-Witten curve of the four dimensional theory. We also discuss conformal field theories related to N=2 4d gauge theories by the Alday-Gaiotto-Tachikawa (AGT) duality and the role of conformal blocks of those CFTs in the integrable systems. As a…
We calculate the vacuum expectation values of local fields for the two-parameter family of integrable field theories introduced and studied by Fateev. Using this result we propose an explicit expression for the vacuum expectation values of local operators in parafermionic sine-Gordon models and in integrable perturbed SU(2) coset conformal field theories.
Boundary integrable models with N=2 supersymmetry are considered. For the simplest boundary N=2 superconformal minimal model with a Chebyshev bulk perturbation we show explicitly how fermionic boundary degrees of freedom arise naturally in the boundary perturbation in order to maintain integrability and N=2 supersymmetry. A new boundary reflection matrix is obtained for this model and N=2 boundary superalgebra is studied. A factorized scattering theory is proposed for a N=2 supersymmetric extension of the boundary sine-Gordon model with either (i) fermionic or (ii) bosonic and fermionic bounda…
We consider classical and quantum integrable sigma models and their relations with the solutions of renormalization group equations. We say that an integrable sigma model possesses the "nice" duality property if the dual quantum field theory has the weak coupling region. As an example, we consider the deformed $CP(n-1)$ sigma model with additional quantum degrees of freedom. We formulate the dual integrable field theory and use perturbed conformal field theory, perturbation theory, $S$-matrix, Bethe Ansatz and renormalization group methods to show that this field theory has the "nice" duality …
Integrable boundary conditions are studied for critical A-D-E and general graph-based lattice models of statistical mechanics. In particular, using techniques associated with the Temperley-Lieb algebra and fusion, a set of boundary Boltzmann weights which satisfies the boundary Yang-Baxter equation is obtained for each boundary condition. When appropriately specialized, these boundary weights, each of which depends on three spins, decompose into more natural two-spin edge weights. The specialized boundary conditions for the A-D-E cases are naturally in one-to-one correspondence with the confor…
We explain how to incorporate the action of local integrals of motion into the fermionic basis for the sine-Gordon model and its UV CFT. The examples up to the level 4 are presented. Numerical computation support the results. Possible applications are discussed.
Exact equations are proposed to describe g-function flows in integrable boundary quantum field theories which interpolate between different conformal field theories in their ultraviolet and infrared limits, extending previous work where purely massive flows were treated. The approach is illustrated with flows between the tricritical and critical Ising models, but the method is not restricted to these cases and should be of use in unravelling general patterns of integrable boundary flows between pairs of conformal field theories.
We present part of our investigations on two dimensional N=1 and N=2 superconformal field theories. As a direct generalization we consider the SU(2) coset models, in particular their renormalization group properties. A search and possible implementation of additional symmetries in related integrable models are also presented.
It is known that there are 48 Virasoro algebras acting on the monster conformal field theory. We call conformal field theories with such a property, which are not necessarily chiral, code conformal field theories. In this paper, we introduce a notion of a framed algebra, which is a finite-dimensional non-associative algebra, and showed that the category of framed algebras and the category of code conformal field theories are equivalent. We have also constructed a new family of integrable conformal field theories using this equivalence. These conformal field theories are expected to be useful f…
We study integrable and conformal boundary conditions for ^sl(2) Z_k parafermions on a cylinder. These conformal field theories are realized as the continuum scaling limit of critical A-D-E lattice models with negative spectral parameter. The conformal boundary conditions labelled by (a,m) in (G, Z_{2k}) are identified with associated integrable lattice boundary conditions labelled by (r,a) in (A_{g-2},G) where g is the Coxeter number of the A-D-E graph G. We obtain analytically the boundary free energies, present general expressions for the parafermion cylinder partition functions and confirm…
In this paper we study the Yang-Baxter integrable structure of Conformal Field Theories with extended conformal symmetry generated by the W_3 algebra. We explicitly construct various T- and Q-operators which act in the irreducible highest weight modules of the W_3 algebra. These operators can be viewed as continuous field theory analogues of the commuting transfer matrices and Q-matrices of the integrable lattice systems associated with the quantum algebra U_q(\hat{sl}(3)). We formulate several conjectures detailing certain analytic characteristics of the Q-operators and propose exact asymptot…
We study states of large charge density in integrable conformal coset models. For the O(2) coset, we consider two different S-matrices, one corresponding to a Thirring mass perturbation and the other to the continuation to O(2+epsilon). The former leads to simplification in the conformal limit; the latter gives a more complicated description of the O(2) system, with a large zero mode sector in addition to the right- and left-movers. We argue that for the conformal O(2+2M|2M) supergroup coset, the S-matrix is given by the analog of the O(2+epsilon) construction.
For positive integer p=k+2, we construct a logarithmic extension of the ^sl(2)_k conformal field theory of integrable representations by taking the kernel of two fermionic screening operators in a three-boson realization of ^sl(2)_k. The currents W^-(z) and W^+(z) of a W-algebra acting in the kernel are determined by a highest-weight state of dimension 4p-2 and charge 2p-1, and a (theta=1)-twisted highest-weight state of the same dimension 4p-2 and charge -2p+1. We construct 2p W-algebra representations, evaluate their characters, and show that together with the p-1 integrable representation c…
In this work we pursue the singular-vector analysis of the integrable perturbations of conformal theories that was initiated in hep-th/9603088. Here we consider the detailed study of the N=1 superconformal theory and show that all integrable perturbations can be identified from a simple singular-vector argument. We identify these perturbations as theories based on affine Lie superalgebras and show that the results we obtain relating two perturbations can be understood by the extension of affine Toda duality to these theories with fermions. We also discuss how this duality is broken in specific…
The $sl(2)$ minimal theories are labelled by a Lie algebra pair $(A,G)$ where $G$ is of $A$-$D$-$E$ type. For these theories on a cylinder we conjecture a complete set of conformal boundary conditions labelled by the nodes of the tensor product graph $A\otimes G$. The cylinder partition functions are given by fusion rules arising from the graph fusion algebra of $A\otimes G$. We further conjecture that, for each conformal boundary condition, an integrable boundary condition exists as a solution of the boundary Yang-Baxter equation for the associated lattice model. The theory is illustrated usi…
We demonstrate that the one-loop dilatation generator for the scalar sector of a certain perturbation of N=4 Super Yang-Mills with fundamentals is the Hamiltonian of an integrable spin chain with open boundary conditions. The theory is a supersymmetric defect conformal field theory (dCFT) with the fundamentals in hypermultiplets confined to a codimension one defect. We obtain a K-matrix satisfying a suitably generalized form of the boundary Yang-Baxter equation, study the Bethe ansatz equations and demonstrate how Dirichlet and Neumann boundary conditions arise in field theory, and match to ex…
We study integrable structure of the coset conformal field theory and define the system of Integrals of Motion which depends on external parameters. This system can be viewed as a quantization of the ILW type hierarchy. We propose a set of Bethe anzatz equations for its spectrum.
Exact expectation values of the fields e^{aϕ} in the Bullough-Dodd model are derived by adopting the ``reflection relations'' which involve the reflection S-matrix of the Liouville theory, as well as special analyticity assumption. Using this result we propose explicit expressions for expectation values of all primary operators in the c<1 minimal CFT perturbed by the operator Φ_{1,2} or Phi_{2,1}. Some results concerning the $Φ_{1,5}$ perturbed minimal models are also presented.
Perturbation of logarithmic conformal field theories is investigated using Zamolodchikov's method. We derive conditions for the perturbing operator, such that the perturbed model be integrable. We also consider an example where integrable models arise out of perturbation of known logarithmic conformal field theories.
In this note, we extend the striking connections between quantum integrable systems and conformal blocks recently found in http://arxiv.org/abs/1602.01858 in several directions. First, we explicitly demonstrate that the action of quartic conformal Casimir operator on general d-dimensional scalar conformal blocks, can be expressed in terms of certain combinations of commuting integrals of motions of the two particle hyperbolic BC2 Calogero-Sutherland system. The permutation and reflection properties of the underlying Dunkl operators play crucial roles in establishing such a connection. Next, we…
We analyze the evolution of the effective potential and the particle spectrum of two-parameter families of non-integrable quantum field theories. These theories are defined by deformations of conformal minimal models M_m by using the operators Phi_{1,3}, Phi_{1,2} and Phi_{2,1}. This study extends to all minimal models the analysis previously done for the classes of universality of the Ising, the Tricritical Ising and the RSOS models. We establish the symmetry and the duality properties of the various models also identifying the limiting theories that emerge when m goes to infinity.
In this paper we fill some gaps in the arguments of our previous papers [hep-th/9412229,hep-th/9604044]. In particular, we give a proof that the L operators of Conformal Field Theory indeed satisfy the defining relations of the Yang-Baxter algebra. Among other results we present a derivation of the functional relations satisfied by ${\bf T}$ and ${\bf Q}$ operators and a proof of the basic analyticity assumptions for these operators used in [hep-th/9412229,hep-th/9604044].
We construct integrable realizations of conformal twisted boundary conditions for ^sl(2) unitary minimal models on a torus. These conformal field theories are realized as the continuum scaling limit of critical A-D-E lattice models with positive spectral parameter. The integrable seam boundary conditions are labelled by (r,s,ζ) in (A_{g-2},A_{g-1},Γ) where Γis the group of automorphisms of G and g is the Coxeter number of G. Taking symmetries into account, these are identified with conformal twisted boundary conditions of Petkova and Zuber labelled by (a,b,γ) in (A_{g-2}xG, A_{g-2}xG,Z_2) and …
We study integrable realizations of conformal twisted boundary conditions for sl(2) unitary minimal models on a torus. These conformal field theories are realized as the continuum scaling limit of critical G = A,D,E lattice models with positive spectral parameter u > 0 and Coxeter number g. Integrable seams are constructed by fusing blocks of elementary local face weights. The usual A-type fusions are labelled by the Kac labels (r, s) and are associated with the Verlinde fusion algebra. We introduce a new type of fusion in the two braid limits u->\pm i\infty associated with the graph fusion al…
We propose a $D$-dimensional generalization of $4D$ bi-scalar conformal quantum field theory recently introduced by Gürdogan and one of the authors as a strong-twist double scaling limit of $γ$-deformed $\mathcal{N}=4$ SYM theory. Similarly to the $4D$ case, this D-dimensional CFT is also dominated by "fishnet" Feynman graphs and is integrable in the planar limit. The dynamics of these graphs is described by the integrable conformal $SO(D+1,1)$ spin chain. In $2D$ it is the analogue of L. Lipatov's $SL(2,\mathbb{C})$ spin chain for the Regge limit of $QCD$, but with the spins $s=1/4$ instead o…
The non-conformal analog of abelian T-duality transformations relating pairs of axial and vector integrable models from the non abelian affine Toda family is constructed and studied in detail.
We show that conformal maps of simply connected domains with an analytic boundary to a unit disk have an intimate relation to the dispersionless 2D Toda integrable hierarchy. The maps are determined by a particular solution to the hierarchy singled out by the conditions known as "string equations". The same hierarchy locally solves the 2D inverse potential problem, i.e. reconstruction of the domain out of a set of its harmonic moments. This is the same solution which is known to describe 2D gravity coupled to c=1 matter. We also introduce a concept of the $τ$-function for analytic curves.
The purpose of this article is to explore the properties of integrable, purely transmitting, defects placed at the junctions of several one-dimensional domains within a network. The defect sewing conditions turn out to be quite restrictive - for example, requiring the number of domains meeting at a junction to be even - and there is a clear distinction between the behaviour of conformal and massive integrable models. The ideas are mainly developed within classical field theory and illustrated using a variety of field theory models defined on the branches of the network, including both linear a…
It is well known that rational 2D conformal field theories are connected with Chern-Simons theories defined on 3D real manifolds. We consider holomorphic analogues of Chern-Simons theories defined on 3D complex manifolds (six real dimensions) and describe 4D conformal field theories connected with them. All these models are integrable. We describe analogues of the Virasoro and affine Lie algebras, the local action of which on fields of holomorphic analogues of Chern-Simons theories becomes nonlocal after pushing down to the action on fields of integrable 4D conformal field theories. Quantizati…
We analyze the defect scaling Lee-Yang model from the perturbed defect conformal field theory (DCFT) point of view. First the defect Lee-Yang model is solved by calculating its structure constants from the sewing relations. Integrable defect perturbations are identified in conformal defect perturbation theory. Then pure defect flows connecting integrable conformal defects are described. We develop a defect truncated conformal space approach (DTCSA) to analyze the one parameter family of integrable massive perturbations in finite volume numerically. Fusing the integrable defect to an integrable…
In these notes we consider integrable structure of the conformal field theory with the algebra of symmetries $\mathcal{A}=W_{n}\otimes H$, where $W_{n}$ is $W-$algebra and $H$ is Heisenberg algebra. We found the system of commuting Integrals of Motion with relatively simple properties. In particular, this system has very simple spectrum and the matrix elements of special primary operators between its eigenstates have nice factorized form coinciding exactly with the contribution of the bifundamental multiplet to the Nekrasov partition function for U(n) gauge theories.
Integrable $λ$-deformed $σ$-models are characterized by an underlying current algebra/coset model CFT deformed, at the infinitesimal level, by current/parafermion bilinears. We promote the deformation parameters to dynamical functions of time introduced as an extra coordinate. It is conceivable that by appropriately constraining them, the beta-functions vanish and consequently the $σ$-model stays conformal. Remarkably, we explicitly materialize this scenario in several cases having a single and even multiple deformation parameters. These generically obey a system of non-linear second-order ord…
We use the connection between the Frobrenius manifold and the Douglas string equation to further investigate Minimal Liouville gravity. We search a solution of the Douglas string equation and simultaneously a proper transformation from the KdV to the Liouville frame which ensure the fulfilment of the conformal and fusion selection rules. We find that the desired solution of the string equation has explicit and simple form in the flat coordinates on the Frobenious manifold in the general case of (p,q) Minimal Liouville gravity.
A novel class of integrable $σ$-models interpolating between exact coset conformal field theories in the IR and hyperbolic spaces in the UV is constructed. We demonstrate the relation to the asymptotic limit of $λ$-deformed models for cosets of non-compact groups. An integrable model interpolating between two spacetimes with cosmological and black hole interpretations and exact conformal field theory descriptions is also provided. In the process of our work, a new zoom-in limit, distinct from the well known non-Abelian T-duality limit, is found.
AGT correspondence gives an explicit expressions for the conformal blocks of $d=2$ conformal field theory. Recently an explanation of this representation inside the CFT framework was given through the assumption about the existence of the special orthogonal basis in the module of algebra $\mathcal{A}=Vir\otimes\mathcal{H}$. The basis vectors are the eigenvectors of the infinite set of commuting integrals of motion. It was also proven that some of these vectors take form of Jack polynomials. In this note we conjecture and verify by explicit computations that in the case of the Virasoro central …
We study the energy level spacing of perturbed conformal minimal models in finite volume, considering perturbations of such models that are massive but not necessarily integrable. We compute their spectrum using a renormalization group improved truncated conformal spectrum approach. With this method we are able to study systems where more than 40000 states are kept and where we determine the energies of the lowest several thousand eigenstates with high accuracy. We find, as expected, that the level spacing statistics of integrable perturbed minimal models are Poissonian while the statistics of…
