The purpose of this article is twofold. The first is to strengthen fractional Sobolev type inequalities in Besov spaces via the classical Lorentz space. In doing so, we show that the Sobolev inequality in Besov spaces is equivalent to the fractional Hardy inequality and the iso-capacitary type inequality. Secondly, we will strengthen fractional Sobolev type inequalities in Besov spaces via capacitary Lorentz spaces associated with Besov capacities. For this purpose, we first study the embedding of the associated capacitary Lorentz space to the classical Lorentz space. Then, the embedding of the Besov space to the capacitary Lorentz space is established. Meanwhile, we show that these embeddings are closely related to the iso-capacitary type inequalities in terms of a new-introduced fractional $(β, p, q)$-perimeter. Moreover, characterizations of more general Sobolev type inequalities in Besov spaces have also been established.
Our goal in this work is to present some function spaces on the complex plane $\C$, $X(\C)$, for which the quasiregular solutions of the Beltrami equation, $\bar\partial f (z) = μ(z) \partial f (z)$, have first derivatives locally in $X(\C)$, provided that the Beltrami coefficient $μ$ belongs to $X(\C)$.
Elliptic problems with additional unknown distributions in boundary conditions are investigated in Besov and Sobolev-Triebel-Lizorkin spaces of low regularity, specifically of an arbitrary negative order. We find that the problems induce Fredholm bounded operators on appropriate pairs of these spaces.
Matrix-Weighted Besov-Triebel-Lizorkin Spaces of Optimal Scale: Real-Variable Characterizations, Invariance on Integrable Index, and Sobolev-Type Embedding
We study the interrelation between the limit $L_p(Ω)$-Sobolev regularity $\overline{s}_p$ of (classes of) functions on bounded Lipschitz domains $Ω\subseteq\mathbb{R}^d$, $d\geq 2$, and the limit regularity $\overlineα_p$ within the corresponding adaptivity scale of Besov spaces $B^α_{τ,τ}(Ω)$, where $1/τ=α/d+1/p$ and $α>0$ ($p>1$ fixed). The former determines the convergence rate of uniform numerical methods, whereas the latter corresponds to the convergence rate of best $N$-term approximation. We show how additional information on the Besov or Triebel-Lizorkin regularity may be used to deduc…
We study the regularity of solutions of the Poisson equation with Dirichlet, Neumann and mixed boundary values in polyhedral cones $K\subset \mathbb{R}^3$ in the specific scale $\ B^α_{τ,τ}, \ \frac{1}τ=\fracα{d}+\frac{1}{p}\ $ of Besov spaces. The regularity of the solution in these spaces determines the order of approximation that can be achieved by adaptive and nonlinear numerical schemes. We aim for a thorough discussion of homogeneous and inhomogeneous boundary data in all settings studied and show that the solutions are much smoother in this specific Besov scale compared to the fractiona…
The existence of local unique mild solutions to the Navier-Stokes equations in the whole space with an initial tempered distribution datum in critical homogeneous or inhomogeneous Sobolev spaces is shown. Especially, the case when the integral-exponent is less than 2 is investigated. The global existence is also obtained for the initial datum in critical homogeneous Sobolev spaces with a norm small enough in suitable critical Besov spaces. The key lemma is to establish the bilinear estimates in these spaces, due to the point-wise decay of the kernel of the heat semigroup.
This article studies strong A-infinity weights in Ahlfors Q-regular and geodesic metric spaces satisfying a weak (1,s)-Poincare inequality for some 1<s<=Q, where Q is finite. It is shown that whenever max(1,Q-1)<s<=Q, a function u yields a strong A-infinity weight of the form w=exp(Qu) if u has a minimal s-weak upper gradient with sufficiently small Morrey norm. Similarly, it is proved that if 1<Q<p for some finite p, then w=exp(Qu) is a strong A-infinity weight whenever u has sufficiently small Besov p-seminorm.
This paper is concerned with the regularity of solutions to linear and nonlinear evolution equations extending our findings in [22] to domains of polyhedral type. In particular, we study the smoothness in the specific scale $B^r_{τ,τ}$, $\frac{1}τ=\frac rd+\frac 1p$ of Besov spaces. The regularity in these spaces determines the approximation order that can be achieved by adaptive and other nonlinear approximation schemes. We show that for all cases under consideration the Besov regularity is high enough to justify the use of adaptive algorithms.
In this paper we prove structural and topological characterizations of the screened Sobolev spaces with screening functions bounded below and above by positive constants. We generalize a method of interpolation to the case of seminormed spaces. This method, which we call the truncated method, generates the screened Sobolev subfamily and a more general screened Besov scale. We then prove that the screened Besov spaces are equivalent to the sum of a Lebesgue space and a homogeneous Sobolev space and provide a Littlewood-Paley frequency space characterization.
In this paper we fix $1\le p<\infty$ and consider $(\Om,d,μ)$ be an unbounded, locally compact, non-complete metric measure space equipped with a doubling measure $μ$ supporting a $p$-Poincaré inequality such that $\Om$ is a uniform domain in its completion $\bar\Om$. We realize the trace of functions in the Dirichlet-Sobolev space $D^{1,p}(\Om)$ on the boundary $\partial\Om$ as functions in the homogeneous Besov space $HB^α_{p,p}(\partial\Om)$ for suitable $α$; here, $\partial\Om$ is equipped with a non-atomic Borel regular measure $ν$. We show that if $ν$ satisfies a $θ$-codimensional condit…
On the framework of the 2-adic group Z_2, we study a Sobolev-like inequality where we estimate the L^2 norm by a geometric mean of the BV norm and the Besov space B(-1,\infty,\infty) norm. We first show, using the special topological properties of the p-adic groups, that the set of functions of bounded variations BV can be identified to the Besov space B(1,\infty,1). This identification lead us to the construction of a counterexample to the improved Sobolev inequality.
We introduce heat semigroup-based Besov classes in the general framework of Dirichlet spaces. General properties of those classes are studied and quantitative regularization estimates for the heat semigroup in this scale of spaces are obtained. As a highlight of the paper, we obtain a far reaching $L^p$-analogue, $p \ge 1$, of the Sobolev inequality that was proved for $p=2$ by N. Varopoulos under the assumption of ultracontractivity for the heat semigroup. The case $p=1$ is of special interest since it yields isoperimetric type inequalities.
In this article, the authors establish the pointwise characterization of Besov and Triebel-Lizorkin spaces on spaces of homogeneous type via clarifying the relationship among Hajłasz-Sobolev spaces, Hajłasz-Besov and Hajłasz-Triebel-Lizorkin spaces, grand Besov and Triebel-Lizorkin spaces, and Besov and Triebel-Lizorkin spaces. A major novelty of this article is that all results presented in this article get rid of both the dependence on the reverse doubling condition of the measure and the metric condition of the quasi-metric under consideration. Moreover, the pointwise characterization of th…
Let $u(\cdot,\cdot)$ be the Caffarelli-Silvestre extension of $f.$ The first goal of this article is to establish the fractional trace type inequalities involving the Caffarelli-Silvestre extension $u(\cdot,\cdot)$ of $f.$ In doing so, firstly, we establish the fractional Sobolev/ logarithmic Sobolev/ Hardy trace inequalities in terms of $\nabla_{(x,t)}u(x,t).$ Then, we prove the fractional anisotropic Sobolev/ logarithmic Sobolev/ Hardy trace inequalities in terms of $ {\partial_{t} u(x,t)}$ or $(-Δ)^{-γ/2}u(x,t)$ only. Moreover, based on an estimate of the Fourier transform of the Caffarelli…
Let $Ω$ be a smooth bounded domain in $\mathbb R^n$ and u be a measurable function on $Ω$ such that $|u(x)|=1$ almost everywhere in $Ω$. Assume that u belongs to the $B^s_{p,q}(Ω)$ Besov space. We investigate whether there exists a real-valued function $φ\in B^s_{p,q}$ such that $u=e^{iφ}$. This extends the corresponding study in Sobolev spaces due to Bourgain, Brezis and the first author. The analysis of this lifting problem leads us to prove some interesting new properties of Besov spaces, in particular a non restriction property when $q>p$.
In this paper we develop a theory of Besov and Triebel--Lizorkin spaces on general noncompact Lie groups endowed with a sub-Riemannian structure. Such spaces are defined by means of hypoelliptic sub-Laplacians with drift, and endowed with a measure whose density with respect to a right Haar measure is a continuous positive character of the group. We prove several equivalent characterizations of their norms, we establish comparison results also involving Sobolev spaces of recent introduction, and investigate their complex interpolation and algebra properties.
The work is devoted to the relaxation limit in larger Besov spaces for compressible Euler equations, which contains previous results in Sobolev spaces and Besov spaces with critical regularity. Such an extension depends on a revision of commutator estimates and an elementary fact which indicates the connection between homogeneous and inhomogeneous Chemin-Lerner spaces.
In this article we give a straightforward proof of refined inequalities between Lorentz spaces and Besov spaces and we generalize previous results of H. Bahouri and A. Cohen. Our approach is based in the characterization of Lorentz spaces as real interpolation spaces. We will also study the sharpness and optimality of these inequalities.
We consider the d-dimensional Boussinesq system defined on a sufficiently smooth bounded domain, with homogeneous boundary conditions, and subject to external sources, assumed to cause instability. The initial conditions for both fluid and heat equations are taken of low regularity. We then seek to uniformly stabilize such Boussinesq system in the vicinity of an unstable equilibrium pair, in the critical setting of correspondingly low regularity spaces, by means of explicitly constructed, feedback controls, which are localized on an arbitrarily small interior subdomain. In addition, they will …
In this paper we define Besov-Lipschitz and Triebel-Lizorkin spaces in the context of Gaussian harmonic analysis, the harmonic analysis of Hermite polynomial expansions. We study inclusion relations among them, some interpolation results and continuity results of some important operators (the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck and the Poisson-Hermite semigroups and the Bessel potentials) on them. We also prove that the Gaussian Sobolev spaces $L^p_α(γ_d)$ are contained in them. The proofs are general enough to allow extensions of these results to the case of Laguerre or Jacobi expansions and even further in t…
We introduce the class of bounded variation (BV) functions in a general framework of strictly local Dirichlet spaces with doubling measure. Under the 2-Poincaré inequality and a weak Bakry-Émery curvature type condition, this BV class is identified with the heat semigroup based Besov class $\mathbf{B}^{1,1/2}(X)$ that was introduced in our previous paper. Assuming furthermore a quasi Bakry-Émery curvature type condition, we identify the Sobolev class $W^{1,p}(X)$ with $\mathbf{B}^{p,1/2}(X)$ for $p>1$. Consequences of those identifications in terms of isoperimetric and Sobolev inequalities wit…
We consider an equation similar to the Navier-Stokes equation. We show that there is initial data that exists in every Triebel-Lizorkin or Besov space (and hence in every Lebesgue and Sobolev space), such that after a finite time, the solution is in no Triebel-Lizorkin or Besov space (and hence in no Lebesgue or Sobolev space). The purpose is to show the limitations of the so called semigroup method for the Navier-Stokes equation. We also consider the possibility of existence of solutions with initial data in the Besov space $\dot B^{-1,\infty}_\infty$. We give initial data in this space for w…
We prove the existence of short time solutions to the incompressible, isotropic Lagrangian Averaged Navier-Stokes equation with low regularity initial data in Besov spaces $B^{r}_{p,q}(\mathbb{R}^n)$, $r>n/2p$. When $p=2$ and $n\geq 3$, we obtain global solutions, provided the parameters $r,q$ and $n$ satisfy certain inequalities. This is an improvement over known analogous Sobolev space results, which required $n=3$.
In this paper, we prove that the solution map of Fokas_Olver_Rosenau_Qiao equation (FORQ) is not uniformly continuous on the initial data in Besov spaces. Our result extends the previous non_uniform continuity in Sobolev spaces (Nonlinear Anal., 2014) to Besov spaces and is consistent with the present work (J. Math. Fluid Mech., 2020) on Novikov equation up to some coefficients when dropping the extra term $(\partial_xu)^3$ in FORQ.
In this paper, we show that the solution map of the two-component Novikov system is not uniformly continuous on the initial data in Besov spaces $B_{p, r}^{s-1}(\mathbb{R})\times B_{p, r}^s(\mathbb{R})$ with $s>\max\{1+\frac{1}{p}, \frac{3}{2}\}$, $1\leq p< \infty$, $1\leq r<\infty$. Our result covers and extends the previous non-uniform continuity in Sobolev spaces $H^{s-1}(\mathbb{R})\times H^s(\mathbb{R})$ for $s>\frac{5}{2}$ (J. Math. Phys., 2017) to Besov spaces.
The Lagrangian Averaged Navier-Stokes (LANS) equations are a recently derived approximation to the Navier-Stokes equations. Existence of global solutions for the LANS equation has been proven for initial data in the Sobolev space $H^{3/4,2}(\mathbb{R}^3)$ and in the Besov space $B^{3/2}_{2,q}(\mathbb{R}^3)$. In this paper, we use an interpolation based method to prove the existence of global solutions to the LANS equation with initial data in $B^{3/p}_{p,q}(\mathbb{R}^3)$ for any $p>3$.
This paper deals with the fractional Sobolev spaces W^[s,p]. We analyze the relations among some of their possible definitions and their role in the trace theory. We prove continuous and compact embeddings, investigating the problem of the extension domains and other regularity results. Most of the results we present here are probably well known to the experts, but we believe that our proofs are original and we do not make use of any interpolation techniques nor pass through the theory of Besov spaces. We also present some counterexamples in non-Lipschitz domains.
$L^{\infty}$ estimates in the integrability by compensation result of H. Wente fail in dimension larger than two when Sobolev spaces are replaced by the ad-hoc Morrey spaces. However, in this paper we prove that $L^{\infty}$ estimates hold in arbitrary dimension when Morrey spaces are replaced by their Littlewood Paley counterparts: Besov-Morrey spaces. As an application we prove the existence of conservation laws to solution of elliptic systems of the form $-Δu= Ω\cdot \nabla u$ where $Ω$ is antisymmetric and both $\nabla u$ and $Ω$ belong to these Besov-Morrey spaces for which the system is …
We use the scale $B^s_τ(L_τ(Ω))$, $1/τ=s/d+1/2$, $s>0$, to study the regularity of the stationary Stokes equation on bounded Lipschitz domains $Ω\subset\mathbb{R}^d$, $d\geq 3$, with connected boundary. The regularity in these Besov spaces determines the order of convergence of nonlinear approximation schemes. Our proofs rely on a combination of weighted Sobolev estimates and wavelet characterizations of Besov spaces. By using Banach's fixed point theorem, we extend this analysis to the stationary Navier-Stokes equation with suitable Reynolds number and data, respectively.
Interpolation inequalities in Triebel-Lizorkin-Lorentz spaces and Besov-Lorentz spaces are studied for both inhomogeneous and homogeneous cases. First we establish interpolation inequalities under quite general assumptions on the parameters of the function spaces. Several results on necessary conditions are also provided. Next, utilizing the interpolation inequalities together with some embedding results, we prove Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequalities for fractional derivatives in Lorentz spaces, which do hold even for the limiting case when one of the parameters is equal to 1 or $\infty$.
This monograph presents a comprehensive treatment of second order divergence form elliptic operators with bounded measurable t-independent coefficients in spaces of fractional smoothness, in Besov and weighted Sobolev classes. We establish mapping properties for the double and single layer potentials, as well as the Newton potential, on Besov spaces. We prove extrapolation-type solvability results: that is, we show that solvability of the Dirichlet or Neumann boundary value problem at any given L^p space automatically assures their solvability in an extended range of Besov spaces. We also esta…
In this paper, we consider the Cauchy problem for the generalized Camassa-Holm equation proposed by Hakkaev and Kirchev (2005) \cite{Hakkaev 2005}. We prove that the solution map of the generalized Camassa-Holm equation is not uniformly continuous on the initial data in Besov spaces. Our result include the present work (2020) \cite{Li 2020,Li 2020-1} on Camassa-Holm equation with $Q=1$ and extends the previous non-uniform continuity in Sobolev spaces (2015) \cite{Mi 2015} to Besov spaces. In addition, the non-uniform continuity in critical space $B_{2, 1}^{\frac{3}{2}}(\mathbb{R})$ is the firs…
We consider toroidal pseudodifferential operators with operator-valued symbols, their mapping properties and the generation of analytic semigroups on vector-valued Besov and Sobolev spaces. We show that a parabolic toroiodal pseudodifferential operator generates an analytic semigroup both on Banach space-valued Besov spaces and on Banach space-valued Sobolev spaces. Here, no condition on the Banach space is imposed. For the proof of the Sobolev space result, we establish a uniform estimate on the kernel which is given as an infinite parameter-dependent sum. An application to abstract non-auton…
It is known that the Sobolev space $L^2_s$ with $s>n/2$ appeared in the Hörmander multiplier theorem can be replaced by the Besov space $B^{2,1}_{n/2}$. On the other hand, the Besov space $B_{n/2}^{2,1}$ is continuously embedded in the modulation space $M^{2,1}_0$. In this paper, we consider the problem whether we can replace $B_{n/2}^{2,1}$ by $M^{2,1}_0$.
Profile decompositions for "critical" Sobolev-type embeddings are established, allowing one to regain some compactness despite the non-compact nature of the embeddings. Such decompositions have wide applications to the regularity theory of nonlinear partial differential equations, and have typically been established for spaces with Hilbert structure. Following the method of S. Jaffard, we treat settings of spaces with only Banach structure by use of wavelet bases. This has particular applications to the regularity theory of the Navier-Stokes equations, where many natural settings are non-Hilbe…
For both localized and periodic initial data, we prove local existence in classical energy space $H^s, s>\frac{3}{2}$, for a class of dispersive equations $u_{t}+(n(u))_{x}+Lu_{x}=0$ with nonlinearities of mild regularity. Our results are valid for symmetric Fourier multiplier operators $L$ whose symbol is of temperate growth, and $n(\cdot)$ in local Sobolev space $H^{s+2}_{\mathrm{loc}}(\mathbb{R})$. In particular, the results include non-smooth and exponentially growing nonlinearities. Our proof is based on a combination of semi-group methods and a new composition result for Besov spaces. In…
We construct an example showing that the solution map of the Euler equations is not continuous in the Hölder space from $C^{1,α}$ to $L^\infty_tC^{1,α}_x$ for any $0<α<1$. On the other hand we show that it is continuous when restricted to the little Hölder subspace $c^{1,α}$. We apply the latter to prove an ill-posedness result for solutions of the vorticity equations in Besov spaces near the critical space $B^1_{2,1}$. As a consequence we show that a sequence of best constants of the Sobolev embedding theorem near the critical function space is not continuous.
We establish some higher differentiability results of integer and fractional order for solution to non-autonomous obstacle problems of the form \begin{equation*} \min \left\{\int_Ωf(x, Dv(x))\,:\, v\in \mathcal{K}_ψ(Ω)\right\}, \end{equation*} where the function $f$ satisfies $p-$growth conditions with respect to the gradient variable, for $1<p<2$, and $\mathcal{K}_ψ(Ω)$ is the class of admissible functions $v\in u_0+W^{1, p}_0(Ω)$ such that $v\geψ$ a. e. in $Ω$, where $u_0\in W^{1,p}(Ω)$ is a fixed boundary datum. Here we show that a Sobolev or Besov-Lipschitz regularity assumption on the gra…
We consider the incompressible Navier-stokes equations (NS) in $\mathbb{R}^{n}$ for $n\geq2$. Global well-posedness is proved in critical Besov-weak-Herz spaces (BWH-spaces) that consist in Besov spaces based on weak-Herz spaces. These spaces are larger than some critical spaces considered in previous works for (NS). For our purposes, we need to develop a basic theory for BWH-spaces containing properties and estimates such as heat semigroup estimates, embedding theorems, interpolation properties, among others. In particular, it is proved a characterization of Besov-weak-Herz spaces as interpol…
It is common that a Sobolev space defined on $\mathbb{R}^m$ has a non-compact embedding into an $L^p$-space, but it has subspaces for which this embedding becomes compact. There are three well known cases of such subspaces, the Rellich compactness, for a subspace of functions on a bounded domain (or an unbounded domain, sufficiently thin at infinity), the Strauss compactness, for a subspace of radially symmetric functions in $\mathbb{R}^m$, and the weighted Sobolev spaces. Known generalizations of Strauss compactness include subspaces of functions with block-radial symmetry, subspaces of funct…
We focus on the existence and uniqueness of the three-dimensional Landau-Lifshitz-Bloch equation supplemented with the initial data in Besov space $\dot{B}_{2,1}^{\frac{3}{2}}$. Utilizing a new commutator estimate, we establish the local existence and uniqueness of strong solutions for any initial data in $\dot{B}_{2,1}^{\frac{3}{2}}$. When the initial data is small enough in $\dot{B}_{2,1}^{\frac{3}{2}}$, we obtain the global existence and uniqueness. Furthermore, we also establish a blow-up criterion of the solution to the Landau-Lifshitz-Bloch equation and then we prove the global existence…
In \cite{GW12} (Y. Guo, Y. Wang, Decay of dissipative equations and negative Sobolev spaces, Commun. Partial Differ. Equ. 37 (2012) 2165--2208), Y. Guo and Y. Wang developed a general new energy method for proving the optimal time decay rates of the solutions to dissipative equations. In this paper, we generalize this method in the framework of homogeneous Besov spaces. Moreover, we apply this method to a model arising from electro-hydrodynamics, which is a coupled system of the Navier-Stokes equations and the Poisson-Nernst-Planck equations through charge transport and external forcing terms.…
We obtain new oscillation inequalities in metric spaces in terms of the Peetre $K-$functional and the isoperimetric profile. Applications provided include a detailed study of Fractional Sobolev inequalities and the Morrey-Sobolev embedding theorems in different contexts. In particular we include a detailed study of Gaussian measures as well as probablity measures between Gaussian and exponential. We show a kind of reverse Polya-Szego principle that allows us to obtain continuity as a self improvement from boundedness, using symetrization inequalities. Our methods also allow for precise estimat…
Let $ϕ$ be a quasiconformal mapping, and let $T_ϕ$ be the composition operator which maps $f$ to $f\circϕ$. Since $ϕ$ may not be bi-Lipschitz, the composition operator need not map Sobolev spaces to themselves. The study begins with the behavior of $T_ϕ$ on $L^p$ and $W^{1,p}$ for $1<p<\infty$. This cases are well understood but alternative proofs of some known results are provided. Using interpolation techniques it is seen that compactly supported Bessel potential functions in $H^{s,p}$ are sent to $H^{s,q}$ whenever $0<s<1$ for appropriate values of $q$. The techniques used lead to sharp res…
In this paper, we consider the Cauchy problem of a two-component b-family system, which includes the two-component Camassa-Holm system and the two-component Degasperis-Procesi system. It is shown that the solution map of the two-component b-family system is not uniformly continuous on the initial data in Besov spaces $B_{p, r}^{s-1}(\mathbb{R})\times B_{p, r}^s(\mathbb{R})$ with $s>\max\{1+\frac{1}{p}, \frac{3}{2}\}$, $1\leq p, r< \infty$. Our result covers and extends the previous non-uniform continuity in Sobolev spaces $H^{s-1}(\mathbb{R})\times H^s(\mathbb{R})$ for $s>\frac{5}{2}$ (Nonline…
In this paper we study elliptic and parabolic boundary value problems with inhomogeneous boundary conditions in weighted function spaces of Sobolev, Bessel potential, Besov and Triebel-Lizorkin type. As one of the main results, we solve the problem of weighted $L_{q}$-maximal regularity in weighted Besov and Triebel-Lizorkin spaces for the parabolic case, where the spatial weight is a power weight in the Muckenhoupt $A_{\infty}$-class. In Besov space case we have the restriction that the microscopic parameter equals to $q$. Going beyond the $A_{p}$-range, where $p$ is the integrability paramet…
