We consider toroidal pseudodifferential operators with operator-valued symbols, their mapping properties and the generation of analytic semigroups on vector-valued Besov and Sobolev spaces. We show that a parabolic toroiodal pseudodifferential operator generates an analytic semigroup both on Banach space-valued Besov spaces and on Banach space-valued Sobolev spaces. Here, no condition on the Banach space is imposed. For the proof of the Sobolev space result, we establish a uniform estimate on the kernel which is given as an infinite parameter-dependent sum. An application to abstract non-autonomous periodic pseudodifferential Cauchy problems gives the existence and uniqueness of classical solutions for such problems.
The purpose of this article is to establish upper and lower estimates for the integral kernel of the semigroup exp(-tP) associated to a classical, strongly elliptic pseudodifferential operator P of positive order on a closed manifold. The Poissonian bounds generalize those obtained for perturbations of fractional powers of the Laplacian. In the selfadjoint case, extensions to t in C_+ are studied. In particular, our results apply to the Dirichlet-to-Neumann semigroup.
In this paper, we consider pseudodifferential operators on the torus with operator-valued symbols and prove continuity properties on vector-valued toroidal Besov spaces, without assumptions on the underlying Banach spaces. The symbols are of limited smoothness with respect to $x$ and satisfy a finite number of estimates on the discrete derivatives. The proof of the main result is based on a description of the operator as a convolution operator with a kernel representation which is related to the dyadic decomposition appearing in the definition of the Besov space.
We develop a semiclassical second microlocal calculus of pseudodifferential operators associated to linear coisotropic submanifolds $\mathcal{C}\subset T^* \mathbb{T}^n$, where $\mathbb{T}^n = \mathbb{R}^n / \mathbb{Z}^n$. First microlocalization is localization in phase space $T^* \mathbb{T}^n$; second microlocalization is finer localization near a submanifold of $T^* \mathbb{T}^n$. Our second microlocal operators test distributions on $\mathbb{T}^n$ (e.g., Laplace eigenfunctions) for a coisotropic wavefront set, a second microlocal measure of absence of \emph{coisotropic regularity}. This wa…
We define a noncommutative residue for classical Euclidean pseudodifferential operators on a torus of arbitrary dimension. We prove that, up to multiplication by a constant, it is the unique trace on the algebra of classical pseudodifferential operators modulo infinitely smoothing operators. In the case of the two torus, we show that the noncommutative residue is the semiclassical limit of a noncommutative residue defined on classical pseudodifferential operators on noncommutative two tori.
The construction, in [AJN], of a pseudodifferential calculus analogous to the Weyl calculus, in an infinite dimensional setting, required the introduction of convenient classes of symbols. In this article, we proceed with the study of these classes in order to establish, later on, the properties that a pseudodifferential calculus is expected to satisfy. The introduction and the study of a new class are rendered necessary in view of applications in QED. We prove here that the symbols of both classes and the terms of their Taylorexpansions admit stochastic extensions. We define, in this infinite…
Near an arbitrary finite gap potential we construct real analytic, canonical coordinates for the KdV equation on the torus having the following two main properties: (1) up to a remainder term, which is smoothing to any given order, the coordinate transformation is a pseudodifferential operator of order 0 with principal part given by the Fourier transform and (2) the pullback of the KdV Hamiltonian is in normal form up to order three and the corresponding Hamiltonian vector field admits an expansion in terms of a paradifferential operator. Such coordinates are a key ingredient for studying the …
Using a global symbol calculus for pseudodifferential operators on tori, we build a canonical trace on classical pseudodifferential operators on noncommutative tori in terms of a canonical discrete sum on the underlying toroidal symbols. We characterise the canonical trace on operators on the noncommutative torus as well as its underlying canonical discrete sum on symbols of fixed (resp.\ any) non--integer order. On the grounds of this uniqueness result, we prove that in the commutative setup, this canonical trace on the noncommutative torus reduces to Kontsevich and Vishik's canonical trace w…
We study dispersive mixed-order systems of pseudodifferential operators in the setting of $L^p$-Sobolev spaces. Under the weak condition of quasi-hyperbolicity, these operators generate a semigroup in the space of tempered distributions. However, if the basic space is a tuple of $L^p$-Sobolev spaces, a strongly continuous semigroup is in many cases only generated if $p=2$ or $n=1$. The results are applied to the linear thermoelastic plate equation inertial term and with Fourier's or Maxwell-Cattaneo's law of heat conduction.
Let $P_h$ be a self-adjoint semiclassical pseudodifferential operator on a manifold $M$ such that the bicharacteristic flow of the principal symbol on $T^*M$ is completely integrable and the subprincipal symbol of $P_h$ vanishes. Consider a semiclassical family of eigenfunctions, or, more generally, quasimodes $u_h$ of $P_h.$ We show that on a nondegenerate rational invariant torus, Lagrangian regularity of $u_h$ (regularity under test operators characteristic on the torus) propagates both along bicharacteristics, and also in an additional ``diffractive'' manner. In particular, in addition to …
We study the long time behavior of the stochastic quantization equation. Extending recent results by Mourrat and Weber we first establish a strong non-linear dissipative bound that gives control of moments of solutions at all positive times independent of the initial datum. We then establish that solutions give rise to a Markov process whose transition semigroup satisfies the strong Feller property. Following arguments by Chouk and Friz we also prove a support theorem for the laws of the solutions. Finally all of these results are combined to show that the transition semigroup satisfies the Do…
On the torus, it is possible to assign a global symbol to a pseudodifferential operator using Fourier series. In this paper we investigate the relations between the local and global symbols for the operators in the classical Hörmander calculus and describe the principal symbols, the non-commutative residue and the canonical trace of an operator in terms of its global symbol. We also generalise these results to any compact Lie group.
The aim of the present paper is twofold:(1) We carry on with developing an abstract method for deriving decay estimates on the semigroup associated to non-symmetric operators in Banach spaces as introduced in [10]. We extend the method so as to consider the shrinkage of the functional space. Roughly speaking, we consider a class of operators writing as a dissipative part plus a mild perturbation, and we prove that if the associated semigroup satisfies a decay estimate in some reference space then it satisfies the same decay estimate in another-smaller or larger-Banach space under the condition…
We study the fractional Laplacian $(-Δ)^{σ/2}$ on the $n$-dimensional torus $\mathbb{T}^n$, $n\geq1$. First, we present a general extension problem that describes \textit{any} fractional power $L^γ$, $γ>0$, where $L$ is a general nonnegative selfadjoint operator defined in an $L^2$-space. This generalizes to all $γ>0$ and to a large class of operators the previous known results by Caffarelli and Silvestre. In particular it applies to the fractional Laplacian on the torus. The extension problem is used to prove interior and boundary Harnack's inequalities for $(-Δ)^{σ/2}$, when $0<σ<2$. We dedu…
We present an abstract method for deriving decay estimates on the resolvents and semigroups of non-symmetric operators in Banach spaces in terms of estimates in another smaller reference Banach space. This applies to a class of operators writing as a regularizing part, plus a dissipative part. The core of the method is a high-order quantitative factorization argument on the resolvents and semigroups. We then apply this approach to the Fokker-Planck equation, to the kinetic Fokker- Planck equation in the torus, and to the linearized Boltzmann equation in the torus. We finally use this informati…
We study the Boltzmann equation on the $d$-dimensional torus in a perturbative setting around a global equilibrium under the Navier-Stokes linearisation. We use a recent functional analysis breakthrough to prove that the linear part of the equation generates a $C^0$-semigroup with exponential decay in Lebesgue and Sobolev spaces with polynomial weight, independently on the Knudsen number. Finally we show a Cauchy theory and an exponential decay for the perturbed Boltzmann equation, uniformly in the Knudsen number, in Sobolev spaces with polynomial weight. The polynomial weight is almost optima…
