Motivated by a recent study of Bessel operators in connection with a refinement of Hardy's inequality involving $1/\sin^2(x)$ on the finite interval $(0,π)$, we now take a closer look at the underlying Bessel-type operators with more general inverse square singularities at the interval endpoints. More precisely, we consider quadratic forms and operator realizations in $L^2((a,b); dx)$ associated with differential expressions of the form \[ ω_{s_a} = - \frac{d^2}{dx^2} + \frac{s_a^2 - (1/4)}{(x-a)^2}, \quad s_a \in \mathbb{R}, \; x \in (a,b), \] and \begin{align*} τ_{s_a,s_b} = - \frac{d^2}{dx^2} + \frac{s_a^2 - (1/4)}{(x-a)^2} + \frac{s_b^2 - (1/4)}{(x-b)^2} + q(x), \quad x \in (a,b),& \\ s_a, s_b \in [0,\infty), \; q \in L^{\infty}((a,b); dx), \; q \text{ real-valued~a.e.~on $(a,b)$,}& \end{align*} where $(a,b) \subset \mathbb{R}$ is a bounded interval.
As an explicit illustration we describe the Krein-von Neumann extension of the minimal operator corresponding $ω_{s_a}$ and $τ_{s_a,s_b}$.
In this paper we study fractional powers of the Bessel differential operator defined on a semiaxis. Some important properties of such fractional powers of the Bessel differential operator are proved. They include connections with Legendre functions for kernel representations, fractional integral operators of Liouville and Saigo, Mellin transform and index laws. Possible applications are indicated to differential equations with fractional powers of the Bessel differential operator.
We prove sharp power-weighted strong type, weak type and restricted weak type inequalities for the heat and Poisson integral maximal operators, Riesz transform and a Littlewood-Paley type square function, emerging naturally in the harmonic analysis related to Bessel operators.
Let $L f(x):=-\frac{d^2}{dx^2}f(x)-\frac{ r}{x}\frac{d}{dx}f(x),\quad x>0, r>0$ be the Bessel operator on $((0,\infty), |\cdot|, x^rdx)$. In this paper, we prove the sharp weak type $(1,1)$ estimate for the imaginary power $L^{iα}, α\in \mathbb R$, of the Bessel operator.
In this paper we consider the Bessel-Struve operator $l_α$ and the Bessel-Struve intertwining operator $χ_α$ and its dual, we define and study the Bessel-Struve Sonine transform $S_{α,β}$ on $\mathcal{E}(\mathbb{R})$. We prove that $S_{α,β}$ is a transmutation operator from $l_α$ into $l_β$ on $\mathcal{E}(\mathbb{R})$ and we deduce similar result for its dual $S_{α,β}^*$ on $\mathcal{E}'(\mathbb{R})$. Furthermore, invoking Weyl integral transform and the Dual Sonine transform $^tS_{α,β}$ on $\mathcal{D}(\mathbb{R})$, we get a relation between the Bessel-Struve transforms $\mathcal{F}^α_{BS} $…
In this paper, we introduce the Bessel-Struve transform, we establish an inversion theorem of the Weyl integral transform associated with this transform, in the case of half integers, we give a characterization of the range of $\mathcal{D}(\mathbb{R})$ by Bessel-Struve transform and we prove a Schwartz-Paley-Wiener theorem on $\mathcal{E}'(\mathbb{R})$.
The main object of this article is to present an interesting double integral involving generalized Bessel-Maitland function defined by Ghaysuddin et al., which is expressed in terms of generalized (Wright) hypergeometric function. We also considered some special cases as an application of the main result.
Two integral operator involving the Appell's functions, or Horn's function in the kernel are considered. Composition of such functions with generalized Bessel functions of the first kind are expressed in term of generalized Wright function and generalized hypergeometric series. Many special cases, including cosine and sine function are also discussed.
We study potential operators (Riesz and Bessel potentials) associated with classical Jacobi and Fourier-Bessel expansions. We prove sharp estimates for the corresponding potential kernels. Then we characterize those $1 \le p,q \le \infty$, for which the potential operators are of strong type $(p,q)$, of weak type $(p,q)$ and of restricted weak type $(p,q)$. These results may be thought of as analogues of the celebrated Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev fractional integration theorem in the Jacobi and Fourier-Bessel settings. As an ingredient of our line of reasoning, we also obtain sharp estimates of t…
In this paper we obtain quantitative weighted $L^p$-inequalities for some operators involving Bessel convolutions. We consider maximal operators, Littlewood-Paley functions and variational operators. We obtain $L^p(w)$-operator norms in terms of the $A_p$-characteristic of the weight $w$. In order to do this we show that the operators under consideration are dominated by a suitable family of sparse operators in the space of homogeneous type $((0,\infty),|\cdot |,x^{2λ}dx)$.
Hardy-Littlewood maximal, generalized Bessel-Riesz and generalized fractional integral operators in generalized Morrey and $BMO_ϕ$ spaces associated with Dunkl operator on the real line
We prove sharp power-weighted $L^p$, weak type and restricted weak type inequalities for the heat semigroup maximal operator and Riesz transforms associated with the Bessel operator $B_ν$ in the exotic range of the parameter $-\infty < ν< 1$. Moreover, in the same framework, we characterize basic mapping properties for other fundamental harmonic analysis operators, including the heat semigroup based vertical $g$-function and fractional integrals (Riesz potential operators).
By means of the Bessel operator a polynomial sequence is constructed to which several properties are given. Among them, its explicit expression, the connection with the Euler numbers, its integral representation via the Kontorovich-Lebedev transform. Despite its non-orthogonality, it is possible to associate to the canonical element of its dual sequence a positive-definite measure as long as certain stronger constraints are imposed.
This paper was published in the special issue of the Journal of Inequalities and Special Functions dedicated to Professor Ivan Dimovski's contributions to different fields of mathematics: transmutation theory, special functions, integral transforms, function theory etc. In this paper we study fractional powers of the Bessel differential operator. The fractional powers are defined explicitly in the integral form without use of integral transforms in its definitions. Some general properties of the fractional powers of the Bessel differential operator are proved and some are listed. Among them ar…
The article discusses the fractional powers of the Bessel operator and their numerical implementation. An extensive literature is devoted to the study of fractional powers of the Laplace operator and their applications. Such degrees are used in the construction of functional spaces, in the natural generalization of the Schrödinger equation in quantum theory, in the construction of the models of acoustic wave propagation in complex media (for example, biological tissues) and space-time models of anomalous (very slow or very fast) diffusion, in spectral theory etc. If we assume the radiality of …
Let $λ>0$ and $\triangle_λ:=-\frac{d^2}{dx^2}-\frac{2λ}{x} \frac d{dx}$ be the Bessel operator on $\mathbb R_+:=(0,\infty)$. We first introduce and obtain an equivalent characterization of ${\rm CMO}(\mathbb R_+,\, x^{2λ}dx)$. By this equivalent characterization and establishing a new version of the Fréchet-Kolmogorov theorem in the Bessel setting, we further prove that a function $b\in {\rm BMO}(\mathbb R_+,\, x^{2λ}dx)$ is in ${\rm CMO}(\mathbb R_+,\, x^{2λ}dx)$ if and only if the Riesz transform commutator $[b, R_{Δ_λ}]$ is compact on $L^p(\mathbb R_+, x^{2λ}dx)$ for any $p\in(1, \infty)$.
In this paper we consider square functions (also called Littlewood-Paley g-functions) associated to Hankel convolutions acting on functions in the Bochner-Lebesgue space $L^p((0,\infty),B)$, where $B$ is a UMD Banach space. As special cases we study square functions defined by fractional derivatives of the Poisson semigroup for the Bessel operator $Δ_λ=-x^{-λ}\frac{d}{dx}x^{2λ}\frac{d}{dx}x^{-λ}$, $λ>0$. We characterize the UMD property for a Banach space $B$ by using $L^p((0,\infty),B)$-boundedness properties of g-functions defined by Bessel-Poisson semigroups. As a by product we prove that t…
In this paper, the mean value formula depends on the Bessel generalized shift operator corresponding to the solutions of the boundary value problem related to the Bessel operator are studied. In addition to, Riesz Bessel transforms related to the Bessel operators are studied. Since Bessel generalized shift operator is translation operator corresponding to the Bessel operator, we construct a family of RBxj by using Bessel generalized shift operator. Finally, we analysis weighted inequalities involving Riesz Bessel transforms .
In this article we prove dimension free $L^p$-boundedness of Riesz transforms associated with a Bessel diferential operator. We obtain explicit estimates of the $L^p$-norms for the Bessel-Riesz transforms in terms of p, establishing a linear behaviour with respect to p. We use the Bellman function technique to prove a bilinear dimension free inequality involving Poisson semigroups defined through this Bessel operator.
This paper provides a method to study the non-negativity of certain linear operators, from other operators with similar spectral properties. If these new operators are formally self-adjoint and non-negative, we can study the complex powers using an appropriate locally convex space. In this case, the initial operator also will be non-negative and we will be able to study their powers. In particular, we have applied this method to Bessel-type operators.
Partial Fourier transforms are used to find explicit formulas for two remarkable fundamental solutions for a generalized Tricomi operator. These fundamental solutions reflect clearly the mixed type of the operator. In order to prove these results, we establish explicit formulas for Fourier transforms of some type of Bessel functions.
Fix $λ>0$. Consider the Bessel operator $\triangle_λ:=-\frac{d^2}{dx^2}-\frac{2λ}{x} \frac d{dx}$ on $\mathbb{R_+}$, where $\mathbb{R_+}:=(0,\infty)$ and $dm_λ:=x^{2λ}dx$ with $dx$ the Lebesgue measure. We provide a deeper study of the Bessel Riesz transform and fractional integral operator via the related Besov and Triebel--Lizorkin spaces associated with $\triangle_λ$. Moreover, we investigate some possible characterization of the commutator of fractional integral operator, which was missing in the literature of the Bessel setting.
We study the inverse problem of recovering Sturm-Liouville operators on the half-line with a Bessel-type singularity inside the interval from the given Weyl function. The corresponding uniqueness theorem is proved, a constructive procedure for the solution of the inverse problem is provided, also necessary and sufficient conditions for the solvability of the inverse problem are obtained.
We find an explicit integral formula for the eigenfunctions of a fourth order differential operator against the kernel involving two Bessel functions. Our formula establishes the relation between K-types in two different realizations of the minimal representation of the indefinite orthogonal group, namely the L^2-model and the conformal model.
The aim of this work is to study new functions arising from the limit transition of the Jackson's $q$-Bessel functions when $q\rightarrow -1$. These functions coincide with the $cas$ function for particular values of their parameters. We prove also that these functions are eigenfunction of differential-difference operators of Dunkl-type. Further, we consider special cases of the Askey-Wilson algebra $AW(3)$ that have these operators (up to constants) as one of their three generators and whose defining relations are given in terms of anticommutators.
In the article we propose and study a method to solve ordinary differential equations with left-sided fractional Bessel derivatives on semi-axes of Gerasimov-Caputo type. We derive explicit solutions to equations with fractional powers of Bessel operator using the Meijer integral transform.
In this paper we consider the evolution equation $\partial_t u=Δ_μu+f$ and the corresponding Cauchy problem, where $Δ_μ$ represents the Bessel operator $\partial_x^2+(\frac{1}{4}-μ^2)x^{-2}$, for every $μ>-1$. We establish weighted and mixed weighted Sobolev type inequalities for solutions of Bessel parabolic equations. We use singular integrals techniques in a parabolic setting.
The generalized operators of fractional integration involving Appell's function $F_{3}(.) $ due to Marichev-Saigo-Maeda, is applied to the Bessel Struve kernel function $S_{α}\left( λz\right),λ,z\in \mathbb{C}$ to obtain the results in terms of generalized Wright functions. The pathway integral representations Bessel Struve kernel function and its relation between many other functions also derived in this study.
This survey paper reports on the properties of the fourth-order Bessel-type linear ordinary differential equation, on the generated self-adjoint differential operators in two associated Hilbert function spaces, and on the generalisation of the classical Hankel integral transform. These results are based upon the properties of the classical Bessel and Laguerre secondorder differential equations, and on the fourth-order Laguerre-type differential equation. From these differential equations and their solutions, limit processes yield the fourth-order Bessel-type functions and the associated differ…
In this paper we establish the product Hardy spaces associated with the Bessel Schrödinger operator introduced by Muckenhoupt and Stein, and provide equivalent characterizations in terms of the Bessel Riesz transforms, non-tangential and radial maximal functions, and Littlewood--Paley theory, which are consistent with the classical product Hardy space theory developed by Chang and Fefferman. Moreover, in this specific setting, we also provide another characterization via the Telyakovskií transform, which further implies that the product Hardy space associated with this Bessel Schrödinger opera…
Let $λ>0$, $p\in((2\lz+1)/(2\lz+2), 1]$, and $\triangle_λ\equiv-\frac{d^2}{dx^2}-\frac{2λ}{x} \frac d{dx}$ be the Bessel operator. In this paper, the authors establish the characterizations of atomic Hardy spaces $H^p((0, \infty), dm_λ)$ associated with $\triangle_λ$ in terms of the radial maximal function, the nontangential maximal function, the grand maximal function, the Littlewood-Paley $g$-function and the Lusin-area function, where $dm_λ(x)\equiv x^{2λ}\,dx$. As an application, the authors further obtain the Riesz transform characterization of these Hardy spaces.
A representation for the kernel of the transmutation operator relating the perturbed Bessel equation with the unperturbed one is obtained in the form of a functional series with coefficients calculated by a recurrent integration procedure. New properties of the transmutation kernel are established. A new representation of the regular solution of the perturbed Bessel equation is given presenting a remarkable feature of uniform error bound with respect to the spectral parameter for partial sums of the series. A numerical illustration of application to the solution of Dirichlet spectral problems …
In this article we consider certain types of weighted generalized functions associated with nondegenerate quadratic forms. Such functions and their derivatives are used for constructing fundamental solutions of iterated ultra-hyperbolic equations with Bessel operator and for constructing negative real powers of ultra-hyperbolic operators with Bessel operator.
In a rectangular domain, a boundary-value problem is considered for a mixed-type equation with a regularized Caputo-like counterpart of hyper-Bessel differential operator and the bi-ordinal Hilfer's fractional derivative. Using the method of separation of variables, Laplace transform, a unique solvability of the considered problem has been established. Moreover, we have found the explicit solution of initial problems for a differential equation with the bi-ordinal Hilfer's derivative and regularized Caputo-like counterpart of the hyper-Bessel differential operator with the non-zero starting po…
In the enduring, fruitful research on spectral differential equations with polynomial eigenfunctions, Koornwinder's generalized Laguerre polynomials are playing a prominent role. Being orthogonal on the positive half-line with respect to the Laguerre weight and an additional point mass $N \ge 0$ at the origin, these polynomials satisfy, for any $α\in\mathbb{N}_{0}$, a linear differential equation of order $2α+4$. In the present paper we establish a new elementary representation of the corresponding 'Laguerre-type' differential operator and show its symmetry with respect to the underlying weigh…
In a previous paper the boundedness properties of Riesz Potentials, Bessel potentials and Fractional Derivatives were studied in detail on Gaussian Besov-Lipschitz spaces $B_{p,q}^α(γ_d)$. In this paper we will continue our study proving the boundedness of those operators on Gaussian Triebel-Lizorkin spaces $F_{p,q}^α(γ_d)$. Also these results can be extended to the case of Laguerre or Jacobi expansions and even further to the general framework of diffusions semigroups.
In this paper we analyze the convergence of the following type of series \begin{equation*} T_N f(x)=\sum_{j=N_1}^{N_2} v_j\Big(\mathcal{P}_{a_{j+1}} f(x)-\mathcal{P}_{a_{j}} f(x)\Big),\quad x\in \mathbb R_+, \end{equation*} where $\{\mathcal{P}_t \}_{t>0}$ is the Poisson semigroup of the Bessel operator $\displaystyle Δ_λ:=-{d^2\over dx^2}-{2λ\over x}{d\over dx}$ with $λ$ being a positive constant, $N=(N_1, N_2)\in \mathbb Z^2$ with $N_1<N_2,$ $\{v_j\}_{j\in \mathbb Z}$ is a bounded real sequences and $\{a_j\}_{j\in \mathbb Z}$ is an increasing real sequence. {Our analysis will consist in the …
In the paper we find solution representations in the compact integral form to the Cauchy problem for a general form of the Euler--Poisson--Darboux equation with Bessel operators via generalized translation and spherical mean operators for all values of the parameter $k$, including also not studying before exceptional odd negative values. We use a Hankel transform method to prove results in a unified way. Under additional conditions we prove that a distributional solution is a classical one too. A transmutation property for connected generalized spherical mean is proved and importance of applyi…
In Random Matrix Theory the local correlations of the Laguerre and Jacobi Unitary Ensemble in the hard edge scaling limit can be described in terms of the Bessel kernel (containing a parameter $α$). In particular, the so-called hard edge gap probabilities can be expressed as the Fredholm determinants of the corresponding integral operator restricted to the finite interval [0, R]. Using operator theoretic methods we are going to compute their asymptotics as R goes to infinity under certain assumption on the parameter $α$.
In the paper we study applications of integral transforms composition method (ITCM) for obtaining transmutations via integral transforms. It is possible to derive wide range of transmutation operators by this method. Classical integral transforms are involved in the integral transforms composition method (ITCM) as basic blocks, among them are Fourier, sine and cosine-Fourier, Hankel, Mellin, Laplace and some generalized transforms. The ITCM and transmutations obtaining by it are applied to deriving connection formulas for solutions of singular differential equations and more simple non-singula…
New index transforms of the Lebedev type are investigated. It involves the real part of the product of the modified Bessel functions as the kernel. The boundedness and invertibility are examined for these operators in the Lebesgue weighted spaces. Inversion theorems are proved. Important particular cases are exhibited. The results are applied to solve an initial value problem for the fourth order PDE, involving the Laplacian. Finally, it is shown that the same PDE has another fundamental solution, which is associated with the generalized Lebedev index transform, involving the square of the mod…
Consider the Bessel operator with a potential on L^2((0,infty), x^a dx), namely Lf(x) = -f"(x) - a/x f'(x) + V(x)f(x). We assume that a>0 and V\in L^1_{loc}((0,infty), x^a dx) is a non-negative function. By definition, a function f\in L^1((0,infty), x^a dx) belongs to the Hardy space H^1(L) if sup_{t>0} |e^{-tL} f| \in L^1((0,infty), x^a dx). Under certain assumptions on V we characterize the space H^1(L) in terms of atomic decompositions of local type. In the second part we prove that this characterization can be applied to L for a \in (0,1) with no additional assumptions on the potential V.
We use the operator method to evaluate a class of integrals involving Bessel or Bessel-type functions. The technique we propose is based on the formal reduction of these family of functions to Gaussians.
Let $V_k$ denote Dunkl's intertwining operator for the root sytem $B_n$ with multiplicity $k=(k_1,k_2)$ with $k_1\geq 0, k_2>0$. It was recently shown that the positivity of the operator $V_{k^\prime\!,k} =V_{k^\prime}\circ V_k^{-1}$ which intertwines the Dunkl operators associated with $k$ and $k^\prime=(k_1+h,k_2)$ implies that $h\in[k_2(n-1),\infty[\,\cup\,(\{0,k_2,\ldots,k_2(n-1)\}-\mathbb Z_+)$. This is also a necessary condition for the existence of positive Sonine formulas between the associated Bessel functions. In this paper we present two partial converse positive results: For $k_1 \…
We construct an L^2-model of "very small" irreducible unitary representations of simple Lie groups G which, up to finite covering, occur as conformal groups Co(V) of simple Jordan algebras V. If $V$ is split and G is not of type A_n, then the representations are minimal in the sense that the annihilators are the Joseph ideals. Our construction allows the case where G does not admit minimal representations. In particular, applying to Jordan algebras of split rank one we obtain the entire complementary series representations of SO(n,1)_0. A distinguished feature of these representations in all c…
We study Hardy spaces for Fourier--Bessel expansions associated with Bessel operators on $((0,1), x^{2ν+1}\, dx)$ and $((0,1), dx)$. We define Hardy spaces $H^1$ as the sets of $L^1$-functions for which their maximal functions for the corresponding Poisson semigroups belong to $L^1$. Atomic characterizations are obtained.
We here present a method of performing integrals of products of spherical Bessel functions (SBFs) weighted by a power-law. Our method, which begins with double-SBF integrals, exploits a differential operator $\hat{D}$ defined via Bessel's differential equation. Application of this operator raises the power-law in steps of two. We also here display a suitable base integral expression to which this operator can be applied for both even and odd cases. We test our method by showing that it reproduces previously-known solutions. Importantly, it also goes beyond them, offering solutions in terms of …
