In this article, we study the componentwise linear ideals in the Veronese subrings of $R=K[x_1,\ldots,x_n]$. If char$(K)=0$, then we give a characterization for graded ideals in the $c^{th}$ Veronese ring $R^{(c)}$ to be componentwise linear. This characterization is an analogue of that over $R$ due to Aramova, Herzog and Hibi in \cite{ah00} and Conca, Herzog and Hibi in \cite{chh04}.
If $I$ is a monomial ideal with linear quotients, then it has componentwise linear quotients. However, the converse of this statement is an open question. In this paper, we provide two classes of ideals for which the converse of this statement holds. First class is the componentwise polymatroidal ideals in $K[x,y]$ and the second one is the componentwise polymatroidal ideals with strong exchange property.
Using the recent results on square-free Gröbner degenerations by Conca and Varbaro, we proved that if a homogeneous ideal $I$ of a polynomial ring is such that its initial ideal $\mathrm{in}_<(I)$ is square-free and $β_0(I) = β_0(\mathrm{in}_<(I))$, then $I$ is a componentwise linear ideal if and only if $\mathrm{in}_<(I)$ is a componentwise linear ideal. In particular, if furthermore one of $I$ and $\mathrm{in}_<(I)$ is componentwise linear, then their graded Betti numbers coincide.
Let $G$ be a finite simple graph and $J(G)$ denote its vertex cover ideal in a polynomial ring over a field. % $\mathbb{K}$. The $k$-th symbolic power of $J(G)$ is denoted by $J(G)^{(k)}$. In this paper, we give a criteria for cover ideals of vertex decomposable graphs to have the property that all their symbolic powers are not componentwise linear. Also, we give a necessary and sufficient condition on $G$ so that $J(G)^{(k)}$ is a componentwise linear ideal for some (equivalently, for all) $k \geq 2$ when $G$ is a graph such that $G \setminus N_G[A]$ has a simplicial vertex for any independen…
In 1999 Herzog and Hibi introduced componentwise linear ideals. A homogeneous ideal $I$ is componentwise linear if for all non-negative integers $d$, the ideal generated by the homogeneous elements of degree $d$ in $I$ has a linear resolution. For square-free monomial ideals, componentwise linearity is related via Alexander duality to the property of being sequentially Cohen-Macaulay for the corresponding simplicial complexes. In general, the property of being componentwise linear is not preserved by taking powers. In 2011, Herzog, Hibi, and Ohsugi conjectured that if $I$ is the cover ideal of…
Let $S=K[x_1,\ldots,x_n]$ be the polynomial ring over a field and $A$ a standard graded $S$-algebra. In terms of the Gröbner basis of the defining ideal $J$ of $A$ we give a condition, called the x-condition, which implies that all graded components $A_k$ of $A$ have linear quotients and with additional assumptions are componentwise linear. A typical example of such an algebra is the Rees ring $R(I)$ of a graded ideal or the symmetric algebra $Sym(M)$ of a module $M$. We apply our criterion to study certain symmetric algebras and the powers of vertex cover ideals of certain classes of graphs.
Let $S=\mathbb{K}[x_1,\dots, x_n]$ be a polynomial ring, where $\mathbb{K}$ is a field, and $G$ be a simple graph on $n$ vertices. Let $J(G)\subset S$ be the vertex cover ideal of $G$. Herzog, Hibi and Ohsugi have conjectured that all powers of vertex cover ideals of chordal graph are componentwise linear. Here we establish the conjecture for the special case of trees. We also show that if $G$ is a unicyclic vertex decomposable graph that does not contain $C_3$ or $C_5$, then symbolic powers of $J(G)$ are componentwise linear.
Let $I$ be a homogeneous ideal in a polynomial ring over a field. Let $I^{(n)}$ be the $n$-th symbolic power of $I$. Motivated by results about ordinary powers of $I$, we study the asymptotic behavior of the regularity function $\text{reg}~ (I^{(n)})$ and the maximal generating degree function $ω(I^{(n)})$, when $I$ is a monomial ideal. It is known that both functions are eventually quasi-linear. We show that, in addition, the sequences $\{\text{reg}~ I^{(n)}/n\}_n$ and $\{ω(I^{(n)})/n\}_n$ converge to the same limit, which can be described combinatorially. We construct an example of an equidi…
We extend the sortability concept to monomial ideals which are not necessarily generated in one degree and as an application we obtain normal Cohen-Macaulay toric rings attached to vertex cover ideals of graphs. Moreover, we consider a construction on a graph called a clique multi-whiskering which always produces vertex cover ideals with componentwise linear powers.
