Let $D$ be a domain in the complex plane, $M$ be an extended real function on $D$. If $f$ is a non-zero holomorphic function on $D$ with an upper constraint $|f|\leq \exp M$ on this domain $D$, then it is natural to expect that there must be some upper constraints on the distribution of zeros of this holomorphic function exclusively in terms of the function $M$ and the geometry of the domain $D$. We have investigated this question in detail in our previous works in the case when $M$ is a subharmonic function and the domain $D$ is arbitrary or with a non-polar boundary. The answer was given in terms of limiting the distribution of zeros of $f$ from above via the Riesz measure of the subharmonic function $M$. In this article, the function $M$ is the difference of subharmonic functions, or a $δ$-subharmonic function, and the upper constraints are given in terms of the Riesz charge of this $δ$-subharmonic function $M$. These results are also new to a certain extent for the subharmonic function $M$. The case when the domain D is the complex plane is considered separately. For the complex plane, it is possible to reach the criterion level.
We show that any finitely connected domain $U\subset\CC$ can be properly embedded into $\CC^2$. For some sequences $\{p_j\}\subset U$, $U\setminus\{p_j\}$ can also be properly embedded into $\CC^2$.
We discuss a general result of holomorphic extension of a real analytic function $f$ defined on the boundary $\partial D$ of a real analytic strictly convex subset $D\subset\subset \C^n$. We show that this follows from the hypothesis of separate holomorphic extension along stationary/extremal discs.
Let $Γ$ be a $C^\infty $ curve in $\Bbb{C}$ containing 0; it becomes $Γ_θ$ after rotation by angle $θ$ about 0. Suppose a $C^\infty $ function $f$ can be extended holomorphically to a neighborhood of each element of the family $\{Γ_θ\}$. We prove that under some conditions on $Γ$ the function $f$ is necessarily holomorphic in a neighborhood of the origin. In case $Γ$ is a straight segment the well known Bochnak-Siciak Theorem gives such a proof for \textit{real analyticity}. We also provide several other results related to testing holomorphy property on a family of certain subsets of a domain …
We consider inductive limits of weighted spaces of holomorphic functions in the unit ball of $\mathbb C^n$. The relationship between sets of uniqueness, weakly sufficient sets and sampling sets in these spaces is studied. In particular, the equivalence of these sets, under general conditions of the weights, is obtained.
We study Segre varieties associated to Levi-flat subsets in complex manifolds and apply them to establish local and global results on the integration of tangent holomorphic foliations.
In this article we prove a global result in the spirit of Basener's theorem regarding the relation between q-pseudoconvexity and q-holomorphic convexity: we prove that any smoothly bounded strictly q-pseudoconvex open subset of the complex Euclidean space is (q + 1)-holomorphically convex; moreover, assuming that the given open set verifies an additional assumption, we prove that it is q-holomorphically convex. We also prove that any open subset of the complex n-dimensional Euclidean space is n-holomorphically convex.
Let $D_j\subset\Bbb C^{k_j}$ be a pseudoconvex domain and let $A_j\subset D_j$ be a locally pluripolar set, $j=1,...,N$. Put$$X:=\bigcup_{j=1}^N A_1\times...\times A_{j-1}\times D_j\times A_{j+1}\times...\times A_N\subset\Bbb C^{k_1+...+k_N}.$$Let $U$ be an open connected neighborhood of $X$ and let $M\varsubsetneq U$ be an analytic subset. Then there exists an analytic subset $\hat M$ of the `envelope of holomorphy' $\hat X$ of $X$ with $\hat M\cap X\subset M$ such that for every function $f$ separately holomorphic on $X\setminus M$ there exists an $\hat f$ holomorphic on $\hat X\setminus\hat…
Let $D\subset \C^n,$ $G\subset \C^m$ be pseudoconvex domains, let $A$ (resp. $B$) be an open subset of the boundary $\partial D$ (resp. $\partial G$) and let $X$ be the 2-fold cross $((D\cup A)\times B)\cup (A\times(B\cup G)).$ Suppose in addition that the domain $D$ (resp. $G$) is {\it locally $\mathcal{C}^2$ smooth on $A$} (resp. $B$). We shall determine the "envelope of holomorphy" $\hat{X}$ of $X$ in the sense that any function continuous on $X$ and separately holomorphic on $(A\times G) \cup (D\times B)$ extends to a function continuous on $\hat{X}$ and holomorphic on the interior of $\ha…
We show, e.g., that a holomorphic Banach vector bundle over a pseudoconvex open subset of, say, Hilbert space is holomorphically trivial if it is continuously trivial. Some applications are also given.
We consider local modifications $ω_n+f^*ω_d$ of the Fubini-Study metric (with associated $(1,1)$-form $ω_n$) on an open subset $Ω\subset \bC\bP^n$ induced by a local holomorphic mapping $f\colon Ω\to \bP^d$. Our main result is that there are "gaps" in potential dimensions $m$ such that the modification can be obtained as $h^*ω_m$ for some local holomorphic mapping $h\colon Ω\to \bC\bP^m$. We also consider the case of rational conformal factors.
Let $D_j\subset\Bbb C^{n_j}$ be a pseudoconvex domain and let $A_j\subset D_j$ be a locally pluriregular set, $j=1,...,N$. Put $$ X:=\bigcup_{j=1}^N A_1\times...\times A_{j-1}\times D_j\times A_{j+1}\times ...\times A_N\subset\Bbb C^{n_1}\times...\times\Bbb C^{n_N}=\Bbb C^n. $$ Let $U\subset\Bbb C^n$ be an open neighborhood of $X$ and let $M\subset U$ be a relatively closed subset of $U$. For $j\in\{1,...,N\}$ let $Σ_j$ be the set of all $(z',z'')\in(A_1\times...\times A_{j-1}) \times(A_{j+1}\times...\times A_N)$ for which the fiber $M_{(z',\cdot,z'')}:=\{z_j\in\Bbb C^{n_j}\: (z',z_j,z'')\in M…
We consider the behaviour at a boundary point of an open subset $U\subset\mathbb{C}$ of distributions that are holomorphic on $U$ and belong to what are called negative Lipschitz classes. The result explains the significance for holomorphic functions of series of Wiener type involving Hausdorff contents of dimension between $0$ and $1$. We begin with a survey about function spaces and capacities that sets the problem in context and reviews the relevant general theory. The techniques used include the construction of a special partition of the identity that may be of independent interest.
We study Banach-valued holomorphic functions defined on open subsets of the maximal ideal space of the Banach algebra H^\infty of bounded holomorphic functions on the unit disk D\subset C with pointwise multiplication and supremum norm. In particular, we establish vanishing cohomology for sheaves of germs of such functions and, solving a Banach-valued corona problem for H^\infty, prove that the maximal ideal space of the algebra H_{\rm comp}^\infty (A) of holomorphic functions on $\Di$ with relatively compact images in a commutative unital complex Banach algebra A is homeomorphic to the direct…
We consider convergence sets of formal power series of the form $f(z,t)=\sum_{n=0}^{\infty} f_n(z)t^n$, where $f_n(z)$ are holomorphic functions on a domain $Ω$ in $\mathbb{C}$. A subset $E$ of $Ω$ is said to be a convergence set in $Ω$ if there is a series $f(z,t)$ such that $E$ is exactly the set of points $z$ for which $f(z,t)$ converges as a power series in a single variable $t$ in some neighborhood of the origin. A $σ$-convex set is defined to be the union of a countable collection of polynomially convex compact subsets. We prove that a subset of $\mathbb{C}$ is a convergence set if and o…
We consider a continuous function $f$ on a domain in $\mathbf C^n$ satisfying the inequality that $|\bar \partial f|\leq |f|$ off its zero set. The main conclusion is that the zero set of $f$ is a complex variety. We also obtain removable singularity theorem of Rado type for J-holomorphic maps. Let $Ω$ be an open subset in $\mathbf C$ and let $E$ be a closed polar subset of $Ω$. Let $u$ be a continuous map from $Ω$ into an almost complex manifold $(M,J)$ with $J$ of class $C^1$. We show that if $u$ is J-holomorphic on $Ω\setminus E$ then it is J-holomorphic on $Ω$.
Let $F\subset\Bbb C^n$ be a proper closed subset of $\Bbb C^n$ and $A\subset\Bbb C^n\setminus F$ at most countable ($n\geq 2$). We give conditions of $F$ and $A$, under which there exists a holomorphic immersion (or a proper holomorphic embedding) $ϕ:\Bbb C\to\Bbb C^n$ with $A\subsetϕ(\Bbb C)\subset\Bbb C^n\setminus F$.
Let $M\subset \mathbb C^n$ be a real analytic hypersurface, $M'\subset \mathbb C^N$ $(N\geq n)$ be a strongly pseudoconvex real algebraic hypersurface of the special form and $F$ be a meromorphic mapping in a neighborhood of a point $p\in M$ which is holomorphic in one side of $M$. Assuming some additional conditions for the mapping $F$ on the hypersurface $M$, we proved that $F$ has a holomorphic extension to $p$. This result may be used to show the regularity of CR mappings between real hypersurfaces of different dimensions.
We show that every holomorphic map $f\in\mathcal{H}(Ω\setminus K)$ ($K\subsetΩ\subset\mathbb{C}^n$, with $K$ compact, $Ω$ open, and $n\ge2$), has a unique "\emph{Hartogs companion}" $\tilde f\in\mathcal{H}(Ω)$ matching $f$ on an open subset $C_{K,Ω}\subsetΩ\setminus K$. Furthermore, $\tilde f$ extends $f$, \emph{if and only if} $\mathbb{C}^n\setminus K$ is a connected set; this equivalence proves the converse implication from the Hartogs Kugelsatz. The existence of vector-valued Hartogs companions in any dimension yields a Hartogs-type extension theorem for Gâteaux holomorphic maps $f\in\mathc…
Consider a domain $\varOmega$ in $\mathbb{C}^n$ with $n\geqslant 2$ and a compact subset $K\subset\varOmega$ such that $\varOmega\backslash K$ is connected. We address the problem whether a holomorphic line bundle defined on $\varOmega\backslash K$ extends to $\varOmega$. In 2013, Fornæss, Sibony and Wold gave a positive answer in dimension $n\geqslant 3$, when $\varOmega$ is pseudoconvex and $K$ is a sublevel set of a strongly plurisubharmonic exhaustion function. However, for $K$ of general shape, we construct counterexamples in any dimension $n\geqslant 2$. The key is a certain gluing lemma…
We prove that a Stein manifold admits a closed holomorphic 1-form without zeros in every class of the first cohomology group. We also prove an approximation result for closed holomorphic 1-forms without zeros defined in a neighborhood of a compact subset.
We construct holomorphically varying families of Fatou-Bieberbach domains with given centres in the complement of any compact polynomially convex subset $K$ of $\mathbb C^n$ for $n>1$. This provides a simple proof of the recent result of Yuta Kusakabe to the effect that the complement $\mathbb C^n\setminus K$ of any polynomially convex subset $K$ of $\mathbb C^n$ is an Oka manifold. The analogous result is obtained with $\mathbb C^n$ replaced by any Stein manifold with the density property.
We construct an example of a holomorphic motion of a five-point subset of the Riemann sphere over an annulus such that it satisfies the zero winding number condition but is not fully extendable.
Let $f$ be a nonzero holomorphic function in the unit ball $\mathbb B$ of the $n$-dimensional complex Euclidean space $\mathbb C^n$ such that the function $f$ vanishes on the set ${\sf Z}\subset \mathbb B$ and satisfies the constraint $|f|\leq \exp M$ on $\mathbb B$, where $M\not\equiv \pm \infty$ is $δ$-subharmonic function on $\mathbb B$ with Riesz charge $μ_M$. We give a scale of integral uniform constraints from above on the distribution of the set ${\sf Z}$ via the charge $ν_M$ in terms of $(2n-2)$-Hausdorff measure of the set $\sf Z$, as well as test convex radial functions and $ρ$-subsp…
We establish a general uniqueness theorem for subharmonic functions of several variables on a domain. A corollary from this uniqueness theorem for holomorphic functions is formulated in terms of the zero subset of holomorphic functions and restrictions on the growth of functions near the boundary of domain.
Let $Ω\subset \mathbb{C}^n$ be a bounded domain and let $\mathcal{A} \subset \mathcal{C}(\barΩ)$ be a uniform algebra generated by a set $F$ of holomorphic and pluriharmonic functions. Under natural assumptions on $Ω$ and $F$ we show that the only obstruction to $\mathcal{A} = \mathcal{C}(\barΩ)$ is that there is a holomorphic disk $D \subset \barΩ$ such that all functions in $F$ are holomorphic on $D$, i.e., the only obstruction is the obvious one. This generalizes work by A. Izzo. We also have a generalization of Wermer's maximality theorem to the (distinguished boundary of the) bidisk.
We show that each pseudoconvex domain $Ω\subset {\mathbb C}^n$ admits a holomorphic map $F$ to ${\mathbb C}^m$ with $|F|\le C_1 e^{C_2 \hatδ^{-6}}$, where $\hatδ$ is the minimum of the boundary distance and $(1+|z|^2)^{-1/2}$, such that every boundary point is a Casorati-Weierstrass point of $F$. Based on this fact, we introduce a new anti-hyperbolic concept --- universal dominability. We also show that for each $α>6$ and each pseudoconvex domain $Ω\subset {\mathbb C}^n$, there is a holomorphic function $f$ on $Ω$ with $|f|\le C_αe^{C_α' \hatδ^{-α}}$, such that every boundary point is a Picard…
Let $Ω\Subset\mathbb{C}^{n}$ be a domain with smooth boundary, $k\in\mathbb{N}$. It is shown that the integral of a holomorphic function in $L^1(Ω)$ may be represented as the integral of this function against a smooth function vanishing to order $k-1$ on $bΩ$. An application for a smoothing property of the Bergman projection for conjugate holomorphic functions is given.
We revisit the phenomenon where, for certain domains $D$, if the squeezing function $s_D$ extends continuously to a point $p\in \partial{D}$ with value $1$, then $\partial{D}$ is strongly pseudoconvex around $p$. In $\mathbb{C}^2$, we present weaker conditions under which the latter conclusion is obtained. In another direction, we show that there are bounded domains $D\Subset \mathbb{C}^n$, $n\geq 2$, that admit large $\partial{D}$-open subsets $\mathscr{O}\subset \partial{D}$ such that $s_D\to 0$ approaching any point in $\mathscr{O}$. This is impossible for planar domains. We pose a few ques…
In this paper we prove an isoperimetric inequality for holomorphic functions in the unit polydisc $\mathbf U^n$. As a corollary we derive an inclusion relation between weighted Bergman and Hardy spaces of holomorphic functions in the polydisc which generalizes the classical Hardy--Littlewood relation $H^p\subseteq A^{2p}$. Also, we extend some results due to Burbea.
We prove that for any complex manifold X, the set of all holomorphic maps from the unit disc to X whose images are everywhere dense in X forms a dense subset in the space of all holomorphic maps from the disc to X. We show by an example that this need not hold for maps from the disc to complex spaces with singularities.
We study the analytic continuation problem for a germ of a biholomorphic mapping from a non-minimal real hypersurface $M\subset\CC{n}$ into a real hyperquadric $\mathcal Q\subset\CP{n}$ and prove that under certain non-degeneracy conditions any such germ extends locally biholomorphically along any path lying in the complement $U\setminus X$ of the complex hypersurface $X$ contained in $M$ for an appropriate neighborhood $U\supset X$. Using the monodromy representation for the multiple-valued mapping obtained by the analytic continuation we establish a connection between nonminimal real hypersu…
Necessary and sufficient conditions are obtained under which the numerator of the partial derivative of a rational function holomorphic in open upper poly-halfplane is the sum of squares of polynomials.
In this paper we provide sufficient conditions for the graphs of holomorphic mappings on compact sets in complex manifolds to have Stein neighborhoods. We show that under these conditions the mappings have properties analogous to properties of holomorphic functions on compact sets in $\mathbb C^n$.
Let A be a closed polar subset of a domain D in the complex plane C. We give a complete description of the pluripolar hull in D X C of the graph of a holomorphic function defined on D A. To achieve this, we prove for pluriharmonic measure certain semi-continuity properties and a localization principle.
We give a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of nondegenerate holomorphic mappings between pseudoellipsoidal real hypersurfaces, and provide an explicit parametrization for the collection of all such mappings (in the situations where they exist).
If $V$ is an analytic set in a pseudoconvex domain $Ω$, we show there is always a pseudoconvex domain $G \subseteq Ω$ that contains $V$ and has the property that every bounded holomorphic function on $V$ extends to a bounded holomorphic function on $G$ with the same norm. We find such a $G$ for some particular analytic sets. When $Ω$ is an operhedron we show there is a norm on holomorphic functions on $V$ that can always be preserved by extensions to $Ω$.
Let $D, G\subset{\Bbb C}$ be domains, let $A\subset D$, $B\subset G$ be locally regular sets, and let $X:=(D\times B)\cup(A\times G)$. Assume that $A$ is a Borel set. Let $M$ be a proper analytic subset of an open neighborhood of $X$. Then there exists a pure 1-dimensional analytic subset $\hat M$ of the envelope of holomorphy $\hat X$ of $X$ such that any function separately holomorphic on $X\setminus M$ extends to a holomorphic function on $\hat X\setminus\hat M$. The result generalizes special cases which were studied in \cite{Ökt 1998}, \cite{Ökt 1999a}, and \cite{Sic 2000}.
This survey is about irreducibility for germs of a holomorphic functions $f$. I will show that when the dimension of the domain $U$ of this holomorphic function $f$ is greater than 2, the irreducibility of germs are not necessary to be stable. That means, if the germ of $f$ at point $p$ is irreducible in the stalk of holomorphic functions at $p$, this does NOT means there exists an open neighborhood $V\subset U$ of this point $p$, such that for any point $q\in V$, the germ of $f$ at $q$ is irreducible at the stalk of holomorphic functions at $q$
We prove that every reduced Stein space admits a holomorphic function without critical points. Furthermore, any closed discrete subset of such a space is the critical locus of a holomorphic function. We also show that for every complex analytic stratification with nonsingular strata on a reduced Stein space there exists a holomorphic function whose restriction to every stratum is noncritical. These result also provide some information on critical loci of holomorphic functions on desingularizations of Stein spaces. In particular, every 1-convex manifold admits a holomorphic function that is non…
Let D be a strictly convex domain and X be a singular analytic subset of C^2 such that the intersection of X and D is non empty. We give conditions under which a function holomophic on the intersection of X and D can be extended holomorphically to D with growth estimates of BMO or L^q type. The extension is given by mean of integral representation formulas and new residual currents.
Asymptotic total geodesy of local holomorphic curves exiting a bounded symmetric domain and applications to a uniformization problem for algebraic subsets
Let $D$ be a nonempty domain in $\mathbb C^n$. We give a scale of necessary conditions for the distribution of the zero set of holomorphic function $f$ on domain $D\subset {\mathbb C}^n$ under a restriction on its growth $|f|\leq \exp M$, where $M\not\equiv -\infty$ is a subharmonic function. If $n=1$, $D\neq \mathbb C$ is simply connected, and $M$ is continuous, then this conditions are sufficient.
Let $n\ge 2$ be an integer, and $B^{n}\subset \mathbb{C}^{n}$ the unit ball. Let $K\subset B^{n}$ be a compact subset such that $B^n\setminus K$ is connected, or $K=\{z=(z_1,\cdots, z_n)|z_1=z_2=0\}\subset \mathbb{C}^{n}$. By the theory of developing maps, we prove that a Kähler metric on $B^{n}\setminus K$ with constant holomorphic sectional curvature uniquely extends to $B^{n}$.
Given a semianalytic set S in a complex space and a point p in S, there is a unique smallest complex-analytic germ at p which contains the germ of S, called the holomorphic closure of S at p. We show that if S is semialgebraic then its holomorphic closure is a Nash germ, for every p, and S admits a semialgebraic filtration by the holomorphic closure dimension. As a consequence, every semialgebraic subset of a complex vector space admits a semialgebraic stratification into CR manifolds satisfying a strong version of the condition of the frontier.
Let $φ$ be a plurisubharmonic function on a pseudoconvex domain $D \subset \mathbb C^n$. We show that there exists a nonzero holomorphic function $f$ on $D$ such that some local mean value of $φ$ with logarithmic additional terms majorizes $\log |f|$. A similar problem is discussed for a locally integrable function on $D$ in terms of balayage of positive measures. Key words: holomorphic function, plurisubharmonicity, minorant, balayage, Jensen inequality, mean value in the ball.
Let $M$ be a two dimensional complex manifold, $p \in M $ and \Fl a germ of holomorphic foliation of \M at $p$. Let $S\subset M$ be a germ of an irreducible, possibly singular, curve at $p$ in $M$ which is a separatrix for \Fl. We prove that if the Camacho-Sad-Suwa index $\id(\F,S,p)\not \in \Q^+\cup \{0\} $ then there exists another separatrix for \Fl at $p$. A similar result is proved for the existence of parabolic curves for germs of holomorphic diffeomorphisms near a curve of fixed points.
Given a real analytic (or, more generally, semianalytic) set R in the n-dimensional complex space, there is, for every point p in the closure of R, a unique smallest complex analytic germ X_p that contains the germ R_p. We call the complex dimension of X_p the holomorphic closure dimension of R at p. We show that the holomorphic closure dimension of an irreducible R is constant on the complement of a closed proper analytic subset of R, and discuss the relationship between this dimension and the CR dimension of R.
Let $X$ be an open subset of $\Bbb C^N$, and let $A$ be an $n\times n$ matrix of holomorphic functions on $X$. We call a point $ξ\in X$ $\mathbf{Jordan}$ $\mathbf{stable}$ for $A$ if $ξ$ is not a splitting point of the eigenvalues of $A$ and, moreover, there is a neighborhood $U$ of $ξ$ such that, for each $1\le k\le n$, the number of Jordan blocks of size $k$ in the Jordan normal forms of $A(ζ)$ is the same for all $ζ\in U$. H. Baumgärtel (Analytic perturbation theory for matrices and operators, Birkhäuser, 1985) proved that there is a nowhere dense closed analytic subset of $X$, which contai…
We show that biholomorphic mappings between two bounded, pseudoconvex domains with smooth boundary extend smoothly to the boundaries of the domains, under a regularity condition on a family of twisted Bergman-like projections. This result is inspired by and generalizes a sufficient condition for extension due to Bell and Ligocka.
Let $\{f_{λ; j}\}_{λ\in V; 1\le j\le k}$ be families of holomorphic functions in the open unit disk $\Di\subset\Co$ depending holomorphically on a parameter $λ\in V\subset \Co^n$. We establish a Rolle type theorem for the generalized multiplicity (called {\em cyclicity}) of zero of the family of univariate holomorphic functions ${\sum_{j=1}^k f_{λ;j}}_{λ\in V}$ at $0\in\Di$. As a corollary, we estimate the cyclicity of the family of generalized exponential polynomials, that is, the family of entire functions of the form $\sum_{k=1}^m P_k(z)e^{Q_k(z)}$, $z\in\Co$, where $P_k$ and $Q_k$ are holo…
Let $D$ be a domain in the complex plane $\mathbb C$. It follows from first part of our work that if a non-zero holomorphic function $f$ on $D$ vanishes on a sequence ${\sf Z}\subset D$ and satisfies $|f|\leq M$ on $D$, where $M$ is a subharmonic function on $D$, then the the distribution of ${\sf Z}$ is subordinated to the Riesz measure $ν_M$ of $M$ in a certain sense. Here we show that this result is "almost reversible".
Let $m,n\geq 1$ are integers and $D$ be a domain in the $$ $\mathbb C^n$ or in the $m$-dimensional real space $\mathbb R^m$. We build positive subharmonic functions on $D$ vanishing on the boundary $\partial D$ of $D$. We use such (test) functions to study the distribution of zero sets of holomorphic functions $f$ on $D\subset \mathbb C^n$ with restrictions on the growth of $f$ near the boundary $\partial D$.
