Given a real analytic (or, more generally, semianalytic) set R in the n-dimensional complex space, there is, for every point p in the closure of R, a unique smallest complex analytic germ X_p that contains the germ R_p. We call the complex dimension of X_p the holomorphic closure dimension of R at p. We show that the holomorphic closure dimension of an irreducible R is constant on the complement of a closed proper analytic subset of R, and discuss the relationship between this dimension and the CR dimension of R.
Given a semianalytic set S in a complex space and a point p in S, there is a unique smallest complex-analytic germ at p which contains the germ of S, called the holomorphic closure of S at p. We show that if S is semialgebraic then its holomorphic closure is a Nash germ, for every p, and S admits a semialgebraic filtration by the holomorphic closure dimension. As a consequence, every semialgebraic subset of a complex vector space admits a semialgebraic stratification into CR manifolds satisfying a strong version of the condition of the frontier.
Let D be a domain in C^n with smooth boundary, of finite 1-type at a point p in the boundary and such that the closure of D has a basis of Stein Runge neighborhoods. Assume that there exists an analytic disc which intersects the closure of D exactly at p. We construct proper holomorphic maps from any open Riemann surface S which are attached to the closure of D exactly at p.
Let D be a bounded strongly pseudoconvex domain in a Stein manifold S and let Y be a complex manifold. We prove that the graph of any continuous map from the closure of D to Y which is holomorphic in D admits a basis of open Stein neighborhoods in S x Y. Using this we show that many classical spaces of maps from the closure of D to Y which are holomorphic in D are infinite dimensional complex manifolds which are modeled on locally convex topological vector spaces (Banach, Hilbert or Frechet).
Let $Ω$ be a bounded pseudoconvex domain in $\mathbb{C}^2$ with Lipschitz boundary or a bounded convex domain in $\mathbb{C}^n$ and $ϕ\in C(\overlineΩ)$ such that $H_ϕ$ is compact on $A^2(Ω)$. Then $ϕ\circ f$ is holomorphic for any holomorphic $f:\mathbb{D}\rightarrow bΩ$.
Given a set E in a complex space and a point p in E, there is a unique smallest complex-analytic germ containing the germ of E at p, called the holomorphic closure of E at p. We study the holomorphic closure of semialgebraic arc-symmetric sets. Our main application concerns CR-continuation of semialgebraic arc-analytic mappings: A mapping f on a real-analytic CR manifold M which is semialgebraic arc-analytic and CR on a non-empty open subset of M is CR on the whole M.
Let D be a bounded domain in the complex plane whose boundary consists of finitely many pairwise disjoint simple closed curves. Give bD the standard orientation and let A(D) be the algebra of all continuous functions on the closure of D which are holomorphic on D. In the paper we prove that a continuous function f on bD extends to a function in A(D) if and only if for each g in A(D) such that f+g has no zero on bD the change of argument of f+g along bD is nonnegative.
We study the closure in the Hardy space or the disk algebra of algebras generated by two bounded functions, of which one is a finite Blaschke product. We give necessary and sufficient conditions for density or finite codimension of such algebras. The conditions are expressed in terms of the inner part of a function which is explicitly derived from each pair of generators. Our results are based on identifying z-invariant subspaces included in the closure of the algebra. Versions of these results for the case of the disk algebra are given.
The initial motivation for this paper is to discuss a more concrete approach to an approximation theorem of Axler and Shields, which says that the uniform algebra on the closed unit disc closure(D) generated by z and h --- where h is a nowhere-holomorphic harmonic function on D that is continuous up to the boundary --- equals the algebra of continuous functions on closure(D). The abstract tools used by Axler and Shields make harmonicity of h an essential condition for their result. We use the concepts of plurisubharmonicity and polynomial convexity to show that, in fact, the same conclusion is…
The following result is proved: Let $D$ and $D'$ be bounded domains in $\mathbb C^n$, $\partial D$ is smooth, real-analytic, simply connected, and $\partial D'$ is connected, smooth, real-algebraic. Then there exists a proper holomorphic correspondence $f:D\to D'$ if and only if $\partial D$ and $\partial D'$ a locally CR-equivalent. This leads to a characterization of the equivalence relationship between bounded domains in $\mathbb C^n$ modulo proper holomorphic correspondences in terms of CR-equivalence of their boundaries.
Let D be a relatively compact strongly pseudoconvex domain in a Stein manifold, and let Y be a complex manifold. We prove that the set A(D,Y), consisting of all continuous maps from the closure of D to Y which are holomorphic in D, is a complex Banach manifold. When D is the unit disc in C (or any other topologically trivial strongly pseudoconvex domain in a Stein manifold), A(D,Y) is locally modeled on the Banach space A(D,C^n)=A(D)^n with n=dim Y. Analogous results hold for maps which are holomorphic in D and of class C^r up to the boundary for any positive integer r. We also establish the O…
Let $B^n$ be the $n$-dimensional unit complex ball and let $a$ and $b$ be two distinct points in its closure. Let $f$ be a real-analytic function on the complex unit sphere $\partial B^n.$ Suppose that for any complex line $L,$ meeting the two points set $\{a,b\},$ the function $f$ admits one-dimensional holomorphic extension in the cross-section $L \cap B^n.$ Then $f$ is the boundary value of a function holomorphic in $B^n$. Two points can not be replaced by a single point. The proof essentially uses recent result of the author about characterization of polyanalytic functions in the complex p…
We give in \mathbb{R}^6 a real analytic almost complex structure J, a real analytic hypersurface M and a vector v in the Levi null set at 0 of M, such that there is no germ of J-holomorphic disc f included in M with f(0)=0 and \frac{\partial f}{\partial x}(0)=v, although the Levi form of M has constant rank. Then for any hypersurface M and any complex structure J, we give necessary conditions under which there exists such a germ of disc.
Let D be a strictly convex domain and X be a singular analytic subset of C^2 such that the intersection of X and D is non empty. We give conditions under which a function holomophic on the intersection of X and D can be extended holomorphically to D with growth estimates of BMO or L^q type. The extension is given by mean of integral representation formulas and new residual currents.
We discuss a general result of holomorphic extension of a real analytic function $f$ defined on the boundary $\partial D$ of a real analytic strictly convex subset $D\subset\subset \C^n$. We show that this follows from the hypothesis of separate holomorphic extension along stationary/extremal discs.
Let $M\subset \mathbb C^n$ be a real analytic hypersurface, $M'\subset \mathbb C^N$ $(N\geq n)$ be a strongly pseudoconvex real algebraic hypersurface of the special form and $F$ be a meromorphic mapping in a neighborhood of a point $p\in M$ which is holomorphic in one side of $M$. Assuming some additional conditions for the mapping $F$ on the hypersurface $M$, we proved that $F$ has a holomorphic extension to $p$. This result may be used to show the regularity of CR mappings between real hypersurfaces of different dimensions.
We investigate certain envelopes of open sets in dual Banach spaces which are related to extending holomorphic functions. We give a variety of examples of absolutely convex sets showing that the extension is in many cases not possible. We also establish connections to the study of iterated weak* sequential closures of convex sets in the dual of separable spaces.
We investigate germs of real analytic Levi-flat hypersurfaces tangent to germs of codimension one holomorphic webs. We introduce the notion of first integrals for local webs. In particular, we prove that a $k$-web with finitely many invariant analytic subvarieties through the origin tangent to a Levi-flat hypersurface has a holomorphic first integral.
We study holomorphic foliations tangent to singular real-analytic Levi-flat hypersurfaces in compact complex manifolds of complex dimension two. We give some hypotheses to guarantee the existence of dicritical singularities of these objects. As consequence, we give some applications to holomorphic foliations tangent to real-analytic Levi-flat hypersurfaces with singularities in $\mathbb{P}^2$.
The leaves in singular holomorphic foliation theory are examples of quasi-analytic layers. In the first part of our publication we are concerned with a theory of these subjects. A quasi-analytic decomposition of a complex manifold is a decomposition into pairwise disjoint connected quasi-analytic layers. These are holomorphic foliations in the sense of P. Stefan and K. Spallek. A very different but more usual conception of holomorphic foliations is develloped by P. Baum and R. Bott. It is based on holomorphic sheaf theory. In the second part we study the relation between quasi-analytic decompo…
We study the analytic continuation problem for a germ of a biholomorphic mapping from a non-minimal real hypersurface $M\subset\CC{n}$ into a real hyperquadric $\mathcal Q\subset\CP{n}$ and prove that under certain non-degeneracy conditions any such germ extends locally biholomorphically along any path lying in the complement $U\setminus X$ of the complex hypersurface $X$ contained in $M$ for an appropriate neighborhood $U\supset X$. Using the monodromy representation for the multiple-valued mapping obtained by the analytic continuation we establish a connection between nonminimal real hypersu…
Using recent development in Poletsky theory of discs, we prove the following result: Let $X,$ $Y$ be two complex manifolds, let $Z$ be a complex analytic space which possesses the Hartogs extension property, let $A$ (resp. $B$) be a non locally pluripolar subset of $X$ (resp. $Y$). We show that every separately holomorphic mapping $f: W:=(A\times Y) \cup (X\times B)\longrightarrow Z$ extends to a holomorphic mapping $\hat{f}$ on $\hat{W}:=\left\lbrace(z,w)\in X\times Y:\ \widetildeω(z,A,X)+\widetildeω(w,B,Y)<1 \right\rbrace$ such that $\hat{f}=f$ on $W\cap \hat{W},$ where $\widetildeω(\cdot,A,…
If $V$ is an analytic set in a pseudoconvex domain $Ω$, we show there is always a pseudoconvex domain $G \subseteq Ω$ that contains $V$ and has the property that every bounded holomorphic function on $V$ extends to a bounded holomorphic function on $G$ with the same norm. We find such a $G$ for some particular analytic sets. When $Ω$ is an operhedron we show there is a norm on holomorphic functions on $V$ that can always be preserved by extensions to $Ω$.
We establish new results on weighted $L^2$ extension of holomorphic top forms with values in a holomorphic line bundle, from a smooth hypersurface cut out by a holomorphic function. The weights we use are determined by certain functions that we call denominators. We give a collection of examples of these denominators related to the divisor defined by the submanifold.
We show that for every connected analytic subvariety $V$ there is a pseudoconvex set $Ω$ such that every bounded matrix-valued holomorphic function on $V$ extends isometrically to $Ω$. We prove that if $V$ is two analytic disks intersecting at one point, if every bounded scalar valued holomorphic function extends isometrically to $Ω$, then so does every matrix-valued function. In the special case that $Ω$ is the symmetrized bidisk, we show that this cannot be done by finding a linear isometric extension from the functions that vanish at one point.
Let {X_n} be a sequence of analytic sets converging to some analytic set X in the sense of holomorphic chains. We introduce a condition which implies that every irreducible component of X is the limit of a sequence of irreducible components of the sets from {X_n}. Next we apply the condition to approximate a holomorphic solution y=f(x) of a system Q(x,y)=0 of Nash equations by Nash solutions. Presented methods allow to construct an algorithm of approximation of the holomorphic solutions.
We prove some properties of analytic multiplicative and sub-multiplicative cocycles. The results allow to construct natural invariant analytic sets associated to complex dynamical systems.
Cartan-Thullen theorem is a basic one in the theory of analytic functions of several complex variables. It states that for any open set $U$ of ${\mathbb C}^k$, the following conditions are equivalent: (a) $U$ is a domain of existence, (b) $U$ is a domain of holomorphy and (c) $U$ is holomorphically convex. On the other hand, when $f \, (\, =(f_1,f_2,\cdots,f_n)\, )$ is a $\mathbb C^n$-valued function on an open set $U$ of $\mathbb C^{k_1}\times\mathbb C^{k_2}\times\cdots\times\mathbb C^{k_n}$, $f$ is said to be $\mathbb C^n$-analytic, if $f$ is complex analytic and for any $i$ and $j$, $i\not=…
It is proved that the germ of a holomorphic map from a real analytic hypersurface M in C^n into a strictly pseudoconvex compact real algebraic hypersurface M' in C^N, 1 < n < N extends holomorphically along any path on M.
We establish results on holomorphic extension of CR-mappings of class $C^\infty$ between a real-analytic CR-submanifold of $\C^N$ and a real-algebraic CR-submanifold of $\C^{N'}$.
We show that the holomorphic ideal sheaf of a linear section of a pseudoconvex open subset $Ω$ of, say, a Hilbert space $X=\ell_2$ is acyclic. We also prove an analog of Hefer's lemma, i.e., if $f:Ω\timesΩ\to\CC$ is holomorphic and $f(x,x)=0$ for $x\inΩ$, then there is a holomorphic $g:Ω\timesΩ\to X^*$ with values in the dual space $X^*$ of $X$ such that $f(x,y)=g(x,y)(x-y)$
In this paper we construct for every integer $n>1$ a complex manifold of dimension $n$ which is exhausted by an increasing sequence of biholomorphic images of $\mathbb C^n$ (i.e., a long $\mathbb C^n$), but it does not admit any nonconstant holomorphic or plurisubharmonic functions. Furthermore, we introduce new biholomorphic invariants of a complex manifold $X$, the stable core and the strongly stable core, that are based on the long term behavior of hulls of compact sets with respect to an exhaustion of $X$. We show that every compact polynomially convex set $B\subset \mathbb C^n$ which is t…
Real analytic functions on the boundary of the sphere which have separate holomorphic extension along the complex lines through a boundary point have holomorphic extension to the ball. This was proved in a previous preprint by an argument of CR geometry. We give here an elementary proof based on the expansion in holomorphic and antiholomorphic powers.
Let C be real-analytic simple closed curve in the complex plane which is symmetric with respect to the real axis. Let r>0 be such that C+ir misses C-ir. We prove that if a continuous function f extends holomorphically from C+it for each t in [-r,r] then f is holomorphic.
We study the behavior of the analytic capacity of a compact set under deformations obtained by families of conformal maps depending holomorphically on the complex parameter. We show that, under those deformations, the logarithm of the analytic capacity varies harmonically. We also show that the hypotheses in this result cannot be substantially weakened.
Let $X$ be a possibly non-reduced space of pure dimension. We introduce an essentially intrinsic pointwise Hermitian norm on smooth $(0,*)$-forms, in particular on holomorphic functions, on $X$. We prove that the space of holomorphic functions is complete with respect to the natural topology induced by this norm.
We prove that there is a continuous non-negative function $g$ on the unit sphere in $\cd$, $d \geq 2$, whose logarithm is integrable with respect to Lebesgue measure, and which vanishes at only one point, but such that no non-zero bounded analytic function $m$ in the unit ball, with boundary values $m^\star$, has $|m^\star| \leq g$ almost everywhere. The proof analyzes the common range of co-analytic Toeplitz operators in the Hardy space of the ball.
We study the holomorphic extendibility of $\text{Op}(p)u$, when $p$ is an analytic symbol, and explicit information is available on the domains of holomorphic extendibility of both $p$ and $u$. By a contour deformation argument, we obtain a precise local estimate of the domain of holomorphy of $\text{Op}(p)u$ in terms of the information on $p$ and $u$.
In any positive CR-dimension and CR-codimension we provide a construction of real-analytic holomorphically nondegenerate CR-submanifolds, which are $C^\infty$ CR-equivalent, but are inequivalent holomorphically. As a corollary, we provide the negative answer to the conjecture of Ebenfelt and Huang \cite{eh} on the analyticity of CR-equivalences between real-analytic Levi nonflat hypersurfaces in dimension 2.
It is shown that the Levi foliation of a real analytic Levi-flat hypersurface extends to a $d$-web near a nondicritical singular point and admits a multiple-valued meromorphic first integral.
This paper deals with analytic families of holomorphic iterated function systems. Using real analyticity of the pressure function (which we prove), we establish a classification theorem for analytic families of holomorphic iterated function systems which depend continuously on a parameter when the space of holomorphic iterated function systems is endowed with the "$λ$-topology". This classification theorem allows us to generalize some geometric results from the paper ("Lambda-Topology vs. Pointwise Topology", to appear in Ergod. Th. & Dynam. Sys.) of the authors, and gives us a better and clea…
Let $\{f_{λ; j}\}_{λ\in V; 1\le j\le k}$ be families of holomorphic functions in the open unit disk $\Di\subset\Co$ depending holomorphically on a parameter $λ\in V\subset \Co^n$. We establish a Rolle type theorem for the generalized multiplicity (called {\em cyclicity}) of zero of the family of univariate holomorphic functions ${\sum_{j=1}^k f_{λ;j}}_{λ\in V}$ at $0\in\Di$. As a corollary, we estimate the cyclicity of the family of generalized exponential polynomials, that is, the family of entire functions of the form $\sum_{k=1}^m P_k(z)e^{Q_k(z)}$, $z\in\Co$, where $P_k$ and $Q_k$ are holo…
We address the question "when the local image of a map is well defined" and answer it in case of holomorphic map germs with target $(\bC^{2}, 0)$. We prove a criterion for holomorphic map germs $(X, x)\to (Y, y)$ to be locally open, solving a conjecture by Huckleberry in all dimensions.
Proofs of two results about a monomial ideal -- describing membership in auxiliary ideals associated to the monomial ideal -- are given which do not invoke resolution of singularities. The AM--GM inequality is used as a substitute for taking a log resolution of the monomial ideal.
Let X be a complex analytic space. A short analytic arc is a holomorphic map of the closed unit disc to X such that only the origin is mapped to a singular point. In contrast with the space of formal arcs studied by Nash, the moduli space of short analytic arcs usually has infinitely many connected components. We describe these for surface singularities, in terms of certain conjugacy classes of the fundamental group of the link. For quotient singularities (in any dimension), this gives a concrete realization of the McKay correspondence. Our results also give new connections between a surface c…
The goal of this contribution is to investigate L${}^2$ extension properties for holomorphic sections of vector bundles satisfying weak semi-positivity properties. Using techniques borrowed from recent proofs of the Ohsawa-Takegoshi extension theorem, we obtain several new surjectivity results for the restriction morphism to a non necessarily reduced subvariety, provided the latter is defined as the zero variety of a multiplier ideal sheaf. These extension results come with precise L${}^2$ estimates and (probably) optimal curvature conditions.
We investigate the local dynamics of antiholomorphic diffeomorphisms around a parabolic fixed point. We first give a normal form. Then we give a complete classification including a modulus space for antiholomorphic germs with a parabolic fixed point under analytic conjugacy. We then study some geometric applications: existence of real analytic invariant curve, existence of holomorphic and antiholomorphic roots of holomorphic and antiholomorphic parabolic germs, commuting holomorphic and antiholomorphic parabolic germs.
We continue the studies of Moutard-type transform for generalized analytic functions started in our previous paper: arXiv:1510.08764. In particular, we suggest an interpretation of generalized analytic functions as spinor fields and show that in the framework of this approach Moutard-type transforms for the aforementioned functions commute with holomorphic changes of variables.
We study the behaviour (in the infinitesimal neighbourhood of the singularity) of a singular plane branch under the action of holomorphic flows. The techniques we develop provide a new elementary, geometric and dynamical solution to Zariski's moduli problem for singular branches in $({\mathbb C}^{2},0)$. Furthermore, we study whether elements of the same class of analytic conjugacy are conjugated by a holomorphic flow; in particular we show that there exists an analytic class that is not complete: meaning that there are two elements of the class that are not analytically conjugated by a local …
We study analytic integrable deformations of the germ of a holomorphic foliation given by $df=0$ at the origin $0 \in \mathbb C^n, n \geq 3$. We consider the case where $f$ is a germ of an irreducible and reduced holomorphic function. Our central hypotheses is that, {\em outside of a dimension $\leq n-3$ analytic subset $Y\subset X$, the analytic hypersurface $X_f : (f=0)$ has only normal crossings singularities}. We then prove that, as germs, such deformations also exhibit a holomorphic first integral, depending analytically on the parameter of the deformation. This applies to the study of in…
Let $Ω$ be a complex manifold, and let $X\subset Ω$ be an open submanifold whose closure $\bar X$ is a (not necessarily compact) submanifold with smooth boundary. Let $G$ be a complex Lie group, $Π$ be a differentiable principal $G$-bundle on $Ω$ and $J$ a formally integrable bundle almost complex structure on the restriction $\bar P:= Π|_{\bar X}$. We prove that, if the boundary of $\bar X$ is strictly pseudoconvex, $J$ extends to a holomorphic structure on the restriction of $Π$ to a neighborhood of $\bar X$ in $Ω$. This answers positively and generalizes a problem stated in the article "Bou…
