We study the closure in the Hardy space or the disk algebra of algebras generated by two bounded functions, of which one is a finite Blaschke product. We give necessary and sufficient conditions for density or finite codimension of such algebras. The conditions are expressed in terms of the inner part of a function which is explicitly derived from each pair of generators. Our results are based on identifying z-invariant subspaces included in the closure of the algebra. Versions of these results for the case of the disk algebra are given.
A sequence of points $z_k$ in the unit disk is said to be thin for a given decrease function $ρ$, if there is a nontrivial bounded holomorphic function such that the infinite series $\sum_k ρ(1-|z_k|)|f(z_k)|$ converges. All sequences will be assumed hyperbolically separated. We give necessary and sufficient conditions for the problem of thinness of a sequence to be non-trivial (one way or the other), and for two different decrease functions to give rise to the same thin sequences. Along the way, some concrete conditions (necessary or sufficient) for a sequence to be thin are obtained.
We provide results of uniqueness for holomorphic functions in the Nevanlinna class bridging those previously obtained by Hayman and Lyubarskii-Seip. Namely, we propose certain classes of hyperbolically separated sequences in the disk, in terms of the rate of non-tangential accumulation to the boundary (the endpoints of this spectrum of classes being respectively the sequences with a non-tangential cluster set of positive measure, and the sequences violating the Blaschke condition); and for each of those classes, we give a critical condition of radial decrease on the modulus which will force a …
We prove that two proper holomorphic polynomial maps between bounded symmetric domains of classical type which preserve the origin are equivalent if and only if they are isotropically equivalent.
In this article, we study holomorphic isometric embeddings between bounded symmetric domains. In particular, we show the total geodesy of any holomorphic isometric embedding between reducible bounded symmetric domains with the same rank.
Given a sequence of automorphisms of the polydisk, we show that the associated composition semigroup homomorphisms on the ball of bounded holomorphic functions on the polydisk admit a universal inner function if a certain condition on the automorphisms are satisfied.
We consider the weighted $A^p(ω)$ and $B_p(ω)$ spaces of holomorphic functions on the polydisk (in the case of $p>1$). We prove some theorems about the boundedness of Toeplitz operators on weighted Besov spaces $B_p(ω)$ and about the boundedness of generalized little Hankel and Berezin- type operators on $A^p(ω)$.
In this article we prove a general result which in particular suggests that, on a simply connected domain in C, all the derivatives and anti-derivatives of the generic holomorphic function are unbounded. A similar result holds for the operator of partial sums of the Taylor expansion with center z at 0, seen as functions of the center z. We also discuss a universality result of these operators.
Let M be a simply-connected complete Kahler manifold whose sectional curvature is bounded between two negative numbers. In this paper we prove the existence of non-constant bounded holomorphic functions on M if the complex dimension of M is greater or equal to three. Our proof uses bounded plurisubharmonic exhaustion functions, the Cauchy-Riemann equations and uniform Holder estimates for CR functions on geodesic spheres.
We realize the relative discrete series of a weighted $L^2$-space on a bounded symmetric doamin as kernels of invariant Cauchy-Riemann operator, and thus as the spaces of nearly holomorphic functions.
Applying a linearization theorem due to J. Mujica, we study the ideals of bounded holomorphic mappings $\mathcal{H}^\infty\circ\mathcal{I}$ generated by composition with an operator ideal $\mathcal{I}$. The bounded-holomorphic dual ideal of $\mathcal{I}$ is introduced and its elements are characterized as those that admit a factorization through $\mathcal{I}^\mathrm{dual}$. For complex Banach spaces $E$ and $F$, we also analyze new ideals of bounded holomorphic mappings from an open subset $U\subseteq E$ to $F$ such as $p$-integral holomorphic mappings and $p$-nuclear holomorphic mappings with…
Our first main result gives assumptions guaranteeing that proper holomorphic maps between Cartan type I bounded symmetric domains have simple block matrix shape, answering positively a question of Mok. The proof is based on the second main result establishing similar phenomenon for local CR maps between arbitrary boundary components of two bounded symmetric domains of the above type. Since boundary components other than Shilov boundaries are Levi-degenerate, our analysis is based on their $2$-nondegeneracy combining Levi forms with higher order tensors.
We survey a number of recent generalizations and sharpenings of Nehari's extension of Schwarz' lemma for holomorphic self-maps of the unit disk. In particular, we discuss the case of infinitely many critical points and its relation to the zero sets and invariant subspaces for Bergman spaces, as well as the case of equality at the boundary.
An example is given of a hyperconvex manifold without non-constant bounded holomorphic functions, which is realized as a domain with real-analytic Levi-flat boundary in a projective surface.
We prove that a proper holomorphic map between two bounded symmetric domains of the same dimension, one of them being irreducible, is a biholomorphism. Our methods allow us to give a single, all-encompassing argument that unifies the various special cases in which this result is known. We discuss an application of these methods to domains having noncompact automorphism groups that are not assumed to act transitively.
We first study holomorphic isometries from the Poincaré disk into the product of the unit disk and the complex unit $n$-ball for $n\ge 2$. On the other hand, we observe that there exists a holomorphic isometry from the product of the unit disk and the complex unit $n$-ball into any irreducible bounded symmetric domain of rank $\ge 2$ which is not biholomorphic to any type-$\mathrm{IV}$ domain. In particular, our study provides many new examples of holomorphic isometries from the Poincaré disk into irreducible bounded symmetric domains of rank at least $2$ except for type-$\mathrm{IV}$ domains.
We prove that there is a continuous non-negative function $g$ on the unit sphere in $\cd$, $d \geq 2$, whose logarithm is integrable with respect to Lebesgue measure, and which vanishes at only one point, but such that no non-zero bounded analytic function $m$ in the unit ball, with boundary values $m^\star$, has $|m^\star| \leq g$ almost everywhere. The proof analyzes the common range of co-analytic Toeplitz operators in the Hardy space of the ball.
We study proper holomorphic maps between bounded symmetric domains $D$ and $Ω$. In particular, when $D$ and $Ω$ are of the same rank $\ge 2$ such that all irreducible factors of $D$ are of rank $\ge 2$, we prove that any proper holomorphic map from $D$ to $Ω$ is a totally geodesic holomorphic isometric embedding with respect to certain canonical Kähler metrics of $D$ and $Ω$. We also obtain some results regarding holomorphic maps $F:D\to Ω$ which map minimal disks of $D$ properly into rank-$1$ characteristic symmetric subspaces of $Ω$. On the other hand, we obtain new rigidity results regardin…
Assuming that $S$ is the space of functions of regular variation, $ω\in S$, $0< p<\infty$, a function $f$ holomorphic in $B^n$ is said to be of Besov space $B_p(ω)$ if $$\|f\|^p_{B_p(ω)}=\int_{B^n} (1-|z|^2)^p|Df(z)|^p\frac{ω(1-|z|)}{(1-|z|^2)^{n+1}}dν(z) <+\infty,$$ where $dν(z) $ is the volume measure on $B^n$ and $D $ stands for a fractional derivative of $f$. We consider operators on $B_p(ω)$ and show, that they are bounded.
We completely characterize the mean ergodic composition operators on $H^\infty(\mathbb{B}_n)$. In particular, we show that a composition operator acting on this space is mean ergodic if and only if it is uniformly mean ergodic.
We consider the spaces $H_{F}^{\infty}(Ω)$ and $\mathcal{A}_{F}(Ω)$ containing all holomorphic functions $f$ on an open set $Ω\subseteq \mathbb{C}$, such that all derivatives $f^{(l)}$, $l\in F \subseteq \mathbb{N}_0=\{ 0,1,...\}$, are bounded on $Ω$, or continuously extendable on $\overlineΩ$, respectively. We endow these spaces with their natural topologies and they become Fréchet spaces. We prove that the set $S$ of non-extendable functions in each of these spaces is either void, or dense and $G_δ$. We give examples where $S=\varnothing$ or not. Furthermore, we examine cases where $F$ can b…
We study sets $V$ in the tridisc that are relatively polynomially convex and have the polynomial extension property. If $V$ is one-dimensional, and is either algebraic, or has polynomially convex projections, we show that it is a retract. If $V$ is two-dimensional, we show that either it is a retract, or, for any choice of the coordinate functions, it is the graph of a function of two variables.
It is known that all $k$-homogeneous orthogonally additive polynomials $P$ over $C(K)$ are of the form $$ P(x)=\int_K x^k dμ. $$ Thus $x\mapsto x^k$ factors all orthogonally additive polynomials through some linear form $μ$. We show that no such linearization is possible without homogeneity. However, we also show that every orthogonally additive holomorphic functions of bounded type $f$ over $C(K)$ is of the form $$ f(x)=\int_K h(x) dμ$$ for some $μ$ and holomorphic $h\colon C(K) \to L^1(μ)$ of bounded type.
Let $ϕ$ and $ψ$ be holomorphic self-maps of the unit polydisc $U^n$ in the $n$-dimensional complex space, and denote by $C_ϕ$ and $C_ψ$ the induced composition operators. This paper gives some simple estimates of the essential norm for the difference of composition operators $C_ϕ-C_ψ$ from Bloch space to bounded holomorphic function space in the unit polydisc. Moreover the compactness of the difference is also characterized.
A relatively polynomially convex subset $V$ of a domain $Ω$ has the extension property if for every polynomial $p$ there is a bounded holomorphic function $ϕ$ on $Ω$ that agrees with $p$ on $V$ and whose $H^\infty$ norm on $Ω$ equals the sup-norm of $p$ on $V$. We show that if $Ω$ is either strictly convex or strongly linearly convex in ${\mathbb C}^2$, or the ball in any dimension, then the only sets that have the extension property are retracts. If $Ω$ is strongly linearly convex in any dimension and $V$ has the extension property, we show that $V$ is a totally geodesic submanifold. We show …
Given a fixed-point free compact holomorphic self-map $f$ on a bounded symmetric domain $D$, which may be infinite dimensional, we establish the existence of a family $\{H(ξ, λ)\}_{λ>0}$ of convex $f$-invariant domains at a point $ξ$ in the boundary $\partial D$ of $D$, which generalises completely Wolff's theorem for the open unit disc in $\mathbb{C}$. Further, we construct horoballs at $ξ$ and show that they are exactly the $f$-invariant domains when $D$ is of finite rank. Consequently, we show in the latter case that the limit functions of the iterates $(f^n)$ with weakly closed range all a…
We develop complex function theory within certain algebras of holomorphic functions on coverings of Stein manifolds. This, in particular, includes the results on holomorphic extension from complex submanifolds, corona type theorems, properties of divisors, holomorphic analogs of the Peter-Weyl approximation theorem, Hartogs type theorems, characterization of uniqueness sets. The model examples of these algebras are: (1) Bohr's algebra of holomorphic almost periodic functions on tube domains; (2) algebra of all fibrewise bounded holomorphic functions (e.g., arising in the corona problem for $H^…
In this note, our purpose is to establish shortly the algebraicity of a holomorphic mapping between real algebraic CR manifolds under a double reflection condition which generalizes the classical single reflection. A complete study of various double reflection conditions is also provided.
We establish basic results of complex function theory within certain algebras of holomorphic functions on coverings of Stein manifolds (such as algebras of Bohr's holomorphic almost periodic functions on tube domains or algebras of all fibrewise bounded holomorphic functions arising, e.g., in the corona problem for $H^\infty$). In particular, in this context we obtain results on holomorphic extension from complex submanifolds, properties of divisors, corona type theorems, holomorphic analogues of the Peter-Weyl approximation theorem, Hartogs type theorems, characterizations of uniqueness sets,…
The aim of this paper is to present a simple way to generate proper monomial rational maps between generalized balls and via the relations between generalized balls and bounded symmetric domains of type I, we suggest new examples of proper holomorphic maps between bounded symmetric domains of type I.
We prove a Fatou type theorem for bounded functions with d_J -bar differential of a controled growth on smoothly bounded domains in an almost complex manifold.
In this paper we characterize compact Hankel operators with conjugate holomorphic symbols on the Bergman space of bounded convex Reinhardt domains in $\mathbb{C}^2$. We also characterize compactness of Hankel operators with conjugate holomorphic symbols on smooth bounded pseudoconvex complete Reinhardt domains in $\mathbb{C}^2$.
The algebra $H^\infty(D)$ of bounded holomorphic functions on $D\subset\mathbb C$ is projective free for a wide class of infinitely connected domains. In particular, for such $D$ every rectangular left-invertible matrix with entries in $H^\infty(D)$ can be extended in this class of matrices to an invertible square matrix (the generalization of the corona theorem for $H^\infty(D)$). This follows from a new result on the structure of the maximal ideal space of $H^\infty(D)$ asserting that its covering dimension is $2$ and the second Čech cohomology group is trivial.
We give conditions under which a germ of a holomorphic mapping in $\Bbb C^N$, mapping an irreducible real algebraic set into another of the same dimension, is actually algebraic. Let $A\subset \bC^N$ be an irreducible real algebraic set. Assume that there exists $\po \in A$ such that $A$ is a minimal, generic, holomorphically nondegenerate submanifold at $\po$. We show here that if $H$ is a germ at $p_1 \in A$ of a holomorphic mapping from $\bC^N$ into itself, with Jacobian $H$ not identically $0$, and $H(A)$ contained in a real algebraic set of the same dimension as $A$, then $H$ must extend …
If $V$ is an analytic set in a pseudoconvex domain $Ω$, we show there is always a pseudoconvex domain $G \subseteq Ω$ that contains $V$ and has the property that every bounded holomorphic function on $V$ extends to a bounded holomorphic function on $G$ with the same norm. We find such a $G$ for some particular analytic sets. When $Ω$ is an operhedron we show there is a norm on holomorphic functions on $V$ that can always be preserved by extensions to $Ω$.
We study general properties of holomorphic isometric embeddings of complex unit balls $\mathbb B^n$ into bounded symmetric domains of rank $\ge 2$. In the first part, we study holomorphic isometries from $(\mathbb B^n,kg_{\mathbb B^n})$ to $(Ω,g_Ω)$ with non-minimal isometric constants $k$ for any irreducible bounded symmetric domain $Ω$ of rank $\ge 2$, where $g_D$ denotes the canonical Kähler-Einstein metric on any irreducible bounded symmetric domain $D$ normalized so that minimal disks of $D$ are of constant Gaussian curvature $-2$. In particular, results concerning the upper bound of the …
We~identify the standard weighted Bergman kernels of spaces of nearly holomorphic functions, in~the sense of Shimura, on~bounded symmetric domains. This also yields a description of the analogous kernels for spaces of ``invariantly-polyanalytic'' functions -- a~generalization of the ordinary polyanalytic functions on the ball which seems to be the most appropriate one from the point of view of holomorphic invariance. In~both cases, the~kernels turn out to be given by certain spherical functions, or equivalently Heckman-Opdam hypergeometric functions, and a conjecture relating some of these to …
Let D be a bounded, finitely connected domain in the complex plane without isolated points in the boundary and let f be a continuous function on the boundary bD. Let F be a continuous extension of f to the closure of D. We prove that f extends holomorphically through D if and only if the degree of F+h is nonnegative for every holomorphic function h on D such that F+h is bounded away from zero near bD.
The following result is proved: Let $D$ and $D'$ be bounded domains in $\mathbb C^n$, $\partial D$ is smooth, real-analytic, simply connected, and $\partial D'$ is connected, smooth, real-algebraic. Then there exists a proper holomorphic correspondence $f:D\to D'$ if and only if $\partial D$ and $\partial D'$ a locally CR-equivalent. This leads to a characterization of the equivalence relationship between bounded domains in $\mathbb C^n$ modulo proper holomorphic correspondences in terms of CR-equivalence of their boundaries.
Let $D, Ω_1, ..., Ω_m$ be irreducible bounded symmetric domains. We study local holomorphic maps from $D$ into $Ω_1 \times... Ω_m$ preserving the invariant $(p, p)$-forms induced from the normalized Bergman metrics up to conformal constants. We show that the local holomorphic maps extends to algebraic maps in the rank one case for any $p$ and in the rank at least two case for certain sufficiently large $p$. The total geodesy thus follows if $D=\mathbb{B}^n, Ω_i = \mathbb{B}^{N_i}$ for any $p$ or if $D=Ω_1 =...=Ω_m$ with rank$(D)\geq 2$ and $p$ sufficiently large. As a consequence, the algebrai…
Based on a well known Sh.-T. Yau theorem we obtain that the real part of a holomorphic function on a Kähler manifold with the Ricci curvature bounded from below by $-1$ is contractive with respect to the distance on the manifold and the hyperbolic distance on $(-1,1)$ inhered from the domain $(-1,1)\times\mathbb{R}$. Moreover, in the case of bounded holomorphic functions we prove that the modulus is contractive with respect to the distance on the manifold and the hyperbolic distance on the unit disk.
We show that for every connected analytic subvariety $V$ there is a pseudoconvex set $Ω$ such that every bounded matrix-valued holomorphic function on $V$ extends isometrically to $Ω$. We prove that if $V$ is two analytic disks intersecting at one point, if every bounded scalar valued holomorphic function extends isometrically to $Ω$, then so does every matrix-valued function. In the special case that $Ω$ is the symmetrized bidisk, we show that this cannot be done by finding a linear isometric extension from the functions that vanish at one point.
C-holomorphic functions defined on algebraic sets and having algebraic graphs can be considered as a complex counterpart of regulous functions introduced recently in real geometry. This note is a part of our study on the subject; we prove herein some effective Nullstellensätze.
In this paper, we characterize $C^2$-smooth totally geodesic isometric embeddings $f\colon Ω\toΩ'$ between bounded symmetric domains $Ω$ and $Ω'$ which extend $C^1$-smoothly over some open subset in the Shilov boundaries and have nontrivial normal derivatives on it. In particular, if $Ω$ is irreducible, there exist totally geodesic bounded symmetric subdomains $Ω_1$ and $Ω_2$ of $Ω'$ such that $f = (f_1, f_2)$ maps into $Ω_1\times Ω_2\subset Ω$ where $f_1$ is holomorphic and $f_2$ is anti-holomorphic totally geodesic isometric embeddings. If $\text{rank}(Ω')<2\text{rank}(Ω)$, then either $f$ o…
We show that several spaces of holomorphic functions on a Riemann domain over a Banach space, including the nuclear and Hilbert-Schmidt bounded type, are locally $m$-convex Fréchet algebras. We prove that the spectrum of these algebras has a natural analytic structure, which we use to characterize the envelope of holomorphy. We also show a Cartan-Thullen type theorem.
In 1985 Diederich and Ohsawa proved that every disc bundle over a compact Kähler manifold is weakly 1-complete. In this paper, under certain conditions we generalize this result to the case of fiber bundles over compact Kähler manifolds whose fibers are bounded symmetric domains. Moreover if the bundle is obtained by the diagonal action on the product of irreducible bounded symmetric domains, we show that it is hyperconvex.
We consider proper holomorphic mappings of equidimensional pseudoconvex domains in complex Euclidean space, where both source and target can be represented as Cartesian products of smoothly bounded domains. It is shown that such mappings extend smoothly up to the closures of the domains, provided each factor of the source satisfies Condition R. It also shown that the number of smoothly bounded factors in the source and target must be the same, and the proper holomorphic map splits as product of proper mappings between the factor domains.
We study proper holomorphic maps between type-$\mathrm{I}$ irreducible bounded symmetric domains. In particular, we obtain rigidity results for such maps under certain assumptions. More precisely, let $f:D^{\mathrm{I}}_{p,q}\to D^{\mathrm{I}}_{p',q'}$ be a proper holomorphic map, where $p\ge q\ge 2$ and $q'<\min\{2q-1,p\}$. Then, we show that $p'\ge p$ and $q'\ge q$. Moreover, we prove that there exist automorphisms $ψ$ and $Φ$ of $D^{\mathrm{I}}_{p,q}$ and $D^{\mathrm{I}}_{p',q'}$ respectively, such that $f=Φ\circ G_h\circ ψ$ for some map $G_h:D^{\mathrm{I}}_{p,q}\to D^{\mathrm{I}}_{p',q'}$ d…
We study in detail the one-variable local theory of functions holomorphic over a finite-dimensional commutative associative unital $\mathbb{C}$-algebra $\mathcal{A}$, showing that it shares a multitude of features with the classical one-variable Complex Analysis, including the validity of the Jacobian conjecture for $\mathcal{A}$-holomorphic regular maps and a generalized Homological Cauchy's Integral Formula. In fact, in doing so we replace $\mathcal{A}$ by a morphism $φ: \mathcal{A} \to \mathcal{B}$ in the category of finite-dimensional commutative associative unital $\mathbb{C}$-algebras in…
We characterize pairs of bounded Reinhardt domains in $\CC^2$ between which there exists a proper holomorphic map and find all proper maps that are not elementary algebraic.
