C-holomorphic functions defined on algebraic sets and having algebraic graphs can be considered as a complex counterpart of regulous functions introduced recently in real geometry. This note is a part of our study on the subject; we prove herein some effective Nullstellensätze.
We prove a local Nullstellensatz with parameter for a continuous family of c-holomorphic functions with an effective exponent independent of the parameter: the local degree of the cycle of zeroes of the central section section. We assume that this central section defines a proper intersection and we show that we can omit this assumption in case of isolated zeroes.
This paper introduces the foundations of the polynomial algebra and basic structures for algebraic geometry over the extended tropical semiring. Our development, which includes the tropical version for the fundamental theorem of algebra, leads to the reduced polynomial semiring -- a structure that provides a basis for developing a tropical analogue to the classical theory of commutative algebra. The use of the new notion of tropical algebraic com-sets, built upon the complements of tropical algebraic sets, eventually yields the tropical algebraic Nullstellensatz.
In this paper we define the algebraic sets and the ideal of points for bijective skew PBW extensions with coefficients in left Noetherian domains. Some properties of affine algebraic sets of commutative algebraic geometry will be extended, in particular, a Zariski topology will be constructed. Assuming additionally that the extension is quasi-commutative with polynomial center and the ring of coefficients is an algebraically closed field, we will prove an adapted version of the Hilbert's Nullstellensatz theorem that covers the classical one. The Gröbner bases of skew PBW extensions will be use…
We give the first known bound for orders of differentiations in differential Nullstellensatz for both partial and ordinary algebraic differential equations. This problem was previously addressed by A. Seidenberg but no complete solution was given. Our result is a complement to the corresponding result in algebraic geometry, which gives a bound on degrees of polynomial coefficients in effective Nullstellensatz.
The amoeba of an affine algebraic variety V in (C^*)^r is the image of V under the map (z_1, ..., z_r) -> (log|z_1|, ..., log|z_r|). We give a characterisation of the amoeba based on the triangle inequality, which we call testing for lopsidedness. We show that if a point is outside the amoeba of V, there is an element of the defining ideal which witnesses this fact by being lopsided. This condition is necessary and sufficient for amoebas of arbitrary codimension, as well as for compactifications of amoebas inside any toric variety. Our approach naturally leads to methods for approximating hype…
Tropical algebra is an emerging field with a number of applications in various areas of mathematics. In many of these applications appeal to tropical polynomials allows to study properties of mathematical objects such as algebraic varieties and algebraic curves from the computational point of view. This makes it important to study both mathematical and computational aspects of tropical polynomials. In this paper we prove a tropical Nullstellensatz and moreover we show an effective formulation of this theorem. Nullstellensatz is a natural step in building algebraic theory of tropical polynomial…
Tropical algebra emerges in many fields of mathematics such as algebraic geometry, mathematical physics and combinatorial optimization. In part, its importance is related to the fact that it makes various parameters of mathematical objects computationally accessible. Tropical polynomials play a fundamental role in this, especially for the case of algebraic geometry. On the other hand, many algebraic questions behind tropical polynomials remain open. In this paper we address four basic questions on tropical polynomials closely related to their computational properties: 1. Given a polynomial wit…
We consider (small) algebraic deformations of germs of real-algebraic CR submanifolds in complex space and study the biholomorphic equivalence problem for such deformations. We show that two algebraic deformations of minimal holomorphically nondegenerate real-algebraic CR submanifolds are holomorphically equivalent if and only if they are algebraically equivalent.
In this paper we prove a Nullstellensatz for supersymmetric polynomials. This gives a bijection between radical ideals and superalgebraic sets. These are algebraic sets which are invariant under the Weyl groupoid of Sergeev and Veselov, \cite{SV2}. Note that the algebra of supersymmetric polynomials is not Noetherian, so the usual Nullstellensatz does not apply. However it deos satisfy the ascending chain condition on radical ideals and this allows for the decomposition of superalgebraic sets into irreducible components. Analogous results hold for the a ring of Laurent supersymmetric polynomia…
We prove effective Nullstellensatz and elimination theorems for difference equations in sequence rings. More precisely, we compute an explicit function of geometric quantities associated to a system of difference equations (and these geometric quantities may themselves be bounded by a function of the number of variables, the order of the equations, and the degrees of the equations) so that for any system of difference equations in variables $\mathbf{x} = (x_1, \ldots, x_m)$ and $\mathbf{u} = (u_1, \ldots, u_r)$, if these equations have any nontrivial consequences in the $\mathbf{x}$ variables,…
Applying the Second Main Theorem we deal with the algebraic degeneracy of entire holomorphic curves from the complex plane into a complex algebraic normal variety of positive log Kodaira dimension that admits a finite proper morphism to a semi-abelian variety. We will also discuss applications to the Kobayashi hyperbolicity problem.
This article takes up the challenge of extending the classical Real Nullstellensatz of Dubois and Risler to left ideals in a *-algebra A. After introducing the notions of non-commutative zero sets and real ideals, we develop three themes related to our basic question: does an element p of A having zero set containing the intersection of zero sets of elements from a finite set S of A belong to the smallest real ideal containing S? Firstly, we construct some general theory which shows that if a canonical topological closure of certain objects are permitted, then the answer is yes, while at the p…
We obtain results on approximation of holomorphic maps by algebraic maps, jet transversality theorems for holomorphic and algebraic maps, and the homotopy principle for holomorphic submersions of Stein manifolds to certain algebraic manifolds.
Let $G$ be a reductive group. We prove that a family of polynomial actions of $G$ on $\mathbb{C}^2$, holomorphically parametrized by an open Riemann surface, is linearizable. As an application, we show that a particular class of reductive group actions on $\mathbb{C}^3$ is linearizable. The main step of our proof is to establish a certain restrictive Oka property for groups of equivariant algebraic automorphisms of $\mathbb{C}^2$.
Let HN denote the problem of determining whether a system of multivariate polynomials with integer coefficients has a complex root. It has long been known that HN in P implies P=NP and, thanks to recent work of Koiran, it is now known that the truth of the Generalized Riemann Hypothesis (GRH) yields the implication that HN not in NP implies P is not equal to NP. We show that the assumption of GRH in the latter implication can be replaced by either of two more plausible hypotheses from analytic number theory. The first is an effective short interval Prime Ideal Theorem with explicit dependence …
We show that the group of all holomorphic automorphisms of complex affine space $\mathbb C^n$, $n>1$, and several of its subgroups satisfy the parametric Oka property with approximation and with interpolation on discrete sets.
This paper is the first of a series dealing with c-holomorphic functions defined on algebraic sets and having algebraic graphs. These functions may be seen as the complex counterpart of the recently introduced \textit{regulous} functions. Herein we study their growth exponent at infinity. A general result on injectivity on fibres of an analytic set together with a theorem of Tworzewski and Winiarski gives a bound for the growth exponent of a c-holomorphic function with algebraic graph in terms of the projective degrees of the sets involved. We prove also that algebricity of the graph is equiva…
We prove that the canonical bundle of any holomorphic family of compact complex algebraic manifolds carries a singular Hermitian metric having non-negative curvature current and such that every holomorphic section of the canonical bundle of the central fiber is L^2 with respect to this metric. This result was proved by Siu when the members of the family are general type, and used to establish the deformation invariance of plurigenera in that case. In fact, we prove our result in a more general setting of a smooth hypersurface with not-necessarily normal trivial bundle in a manifold that is Ste…
We show that a $2k$-current $T$ on a complex manifold is a real holomorphic $k$-chain if and only if $T$ is locally real rectifiable, $d$-closed and has $\mathcal{H}^{2k}$-locally finite support. This result is applied to study homology classes represented by algebraic cycles.
The existence problem for holomorphic structures on vector bundles over non-algebraic surfaces is in general still open. We solve this problem in the case of rank 2 vector bundles over K3 surfaces and in the case of vector bundles of arbitrary rank over all known surfaces of class VII. Our methods, which are based on Donaldson theory and deformation theory, can be used to solve the existence problem of holomorphic vector bundles on further classes of non-algebraic surfaces.
For $q\leq 3$ smooth plane algebraic curves $\mathcal{C}_i$ having simple normal crossings, if the invariant logarithmic $2$-jet differential bundle associated to $(\mathbb{P}^2(\mathbb{C}), \sum_{i=1}^q \mathcal{C}_i)$ has a nonzero section vanishing on some ample divisor, then, for every algebraically nondegenerate entire holomorphic curve $f\colon\mathbb{C}\rightarrow\mathbb{P}^2(\mathbb{C})$, we have a Second Main Theorem type estimate: \[ T_f(r) \leq c\sum_{i=1}^q\,N_f^{[1]}(r,\mathcal{C}_i) + o\big(T_f(r) \big)\parallel, \] where $T_f(r)$ and $N_f^{[1]}(r,C_i)$ stand for the order functi…
We present a new notion of decomposition of semialgebraic sets by introducing a mode of irreducibility based on arc-analytic functions. The result is a refinement of the decomposition of such sets with respect to the Zariski topology as well as a refinement of the decomposition in each of the recent approaches based on Nash and continuous rational functions. In addition, by pairing the ring of arc-analytic functions with semialgebraic sets, we obtain a theory of algebraic geometry equipped with strong tools such as the Identity Principle and the Nullstellensatz.
Let X be a complex nonsingular affine algebraic variety, K a holomorphically convex subset of X, and Y a homogeneous variety for some complex linear algebraic group. We prove that a holomorphic map f:K-->Y can be uniformly approximated on K by regular maps K-->Y if and only if f is homotopic to a regular map K-->Y. However, it can happen that a null homotopic holomorphic map K-->Y does not admit uniform approximation on K by regular maps X-->Y. Here, a map g:K-->Y is called holomorphic (resp. regular) if there exist an open (resp. a Zariski open) neighborhood U of K in X and a holomorphic (res…
We give an example of a real algebraic manifold embedded in a complex space that does not satisfy the Nash-Artin approximation Property. This Nash-Artin approximation Property is closely related to the problem of determining when the biholomorphic equivalence for germs of real algebraic manifolds coincides with the algebraic equivalence. This example is an elliptic Bishop surface, and its construction is based on the functional equation satisfied by the generating series of some walks restricted to the quarter plane.
This article discusses the recent transcendental techniques used in the proofs of the following three conjectures. (1)~The plurigenera of a compact projective algebraic manifold are invariant under holomorphic deformation. (2)~There exists no smooth Leviflat hypersurface in the complex projective plane. (3)~A generic hypersurface of sufficiently high degree in the complex projective space is hyperbolic in the sense that there is no nonconstant holomorphic map from the complex Euclidean line to it.
We consider the only one known class of non-Kähler irreducible holomorphic symplectic manifolds, described in the works of D. Guan and the first author. Any such manifold $Q$ of dimension $2n-2$ is obtained as a finite degree $n^2$ cover of some non-Kähler manifold $W_F$ which we call the base of $Q$. We show that the algebraic reduction of $Q$ and its base is the projective space of dimension $n-1$. Besides, we give a partial classification of submanifolds in $Q$, describe the degeneracy locus of its algebraic reduction, and prove that the automorphism group of $Q$ satisfies the Jordan proper…
We prove the algebraicity of smooth $CR$-mappings between algebraic Cauchy--Riemann manifolds. A generalization of separate algebraicity principle is established.
As a result of our study of the hyperbolicity of the moduli space of polarized manifold, we give a general big Picard theorem for a holomorphic curve on a log-smooth pair $(X,D)$ such that $W=X\setminus D$ admits a Finsler pseudometric that is strongly negatively curved when pulled back to the curve. We show, by some refinements of the classical Viehweg-Zuo construction, that this latter condition holds for the base space $W$, if nonsingular, of any algebraic family of polarized complex projective manifolds with semi-ample canonical bundles whose induced moduli map $ϕ$ to the moduli space of s…
In this thesis, we study deformations of compact holomorphic Poisson manifolds and algebraic Poisson schemes in the framework of Kodaira-Spencer's analytic deformation theory and Grothendieck's algebraic deformation theory.
It is proved that on nilmanifolds with abelian complex structure, there exists a canonically constructed non-trivial holomorphic Poisson structure. We identify the necessary and sufficient condition for its associated cohomology to be isomorphic to the cohomology associated to trivial (zero) holomorphic Poisson structure. We also identify a sufficient condition for this isomorphism to be at the level of Gerstenhaber algebras.
Let M be a complex nilmanifold, that is, a compact quotient of a nilpotent Lie group endowed with an invariant complex structure by a discrete lattice. A holomorphic differential on M is a closed, holomorphic 1-form. We show that $a(M)\leq k$, where $a(M)$ is the algebraic dimension $a(M)$ (i.e. the transcendence degree of the field of meromorphic functions) and $k$ is the dimension of the space of holomorphic differentials. We prove a similar result about meromorphic maps to Kahler manifolds.
The paper consider regulous functions on the real affine space $\mathbb{R}^N$. We shall study some algebraic properties of the ring of those functions. It is presented a proof of the regulous version of Nullstellensatz based on the substitution property and the Artin-Lang property for the considered function ring. We prove that every maximal ideal in the ring of regulous functions on $\mathbb{R}^N$ when $N\geq 2$ is not finitely generated. Finally, we extend the latter result to an arbitrary, smooth, real affine algebraic variety of dimension $d\geq 2$.
Given an ample real Hermitian holomorphic line bundle $L$ over a real algebraic variety $X$, the space of real holomorphic sections of $L^{\otimes d}$ inherits a natural Gaussian probability measure. We prove that the probability that the zero locus of a real holomorphic section $s$ of $L^{\otimes d}$ defines a maximal hypersurface tends to $0$ exponentially fast as $d$ goes to infinity. This extends to any dimension a result of Gayet and Welschinger valid for maximal real algebraic curves inside a real algebraic surface. The starting point is a low degree approximation property which relates …
This paper attempts to provide an analogue of the Novikov conjecture for algebraic (or Kähler) manifolds. Inter alia, we prove a conjecture of Rosenberg's on the birational invariance of higher Todd genera. We argue that in the algebraic geometric setting the Novikov philosophy naturally includes non-birational mappings.
We establish an Eichler-Shimura isomorphism for weakly modular forms of level one. We do this by relating weakly modular forms with rational Fourier coefficients to the algebraic de Rham cohomology of the modular curve with twisted coefficients. This leads to formulae for the periods and quasi-periods of modular forms.
Let G be complex linear-algebraic group, H a subgroup, which is dense in G in the Zariski-topology. Assume that G/[G,G] is reductive and furthermore that (1) G is solvable, or (2) the semisimple elements in G'=[G,G] are dense. Then every H-invariant holomorphic function on G is constant. If G=G', furthermore every H-invariant meromorphic or plurisubharmonic function is constant. Finally an example of Margulis is used to show the existence of an algebraic group G with G=G' such that there exists a Zariski-dense discrete subgroup without any semisimple element.
Let $X$ be a compact connected Riemann surface of genus at least two and $G$ a connected reductive complex affine algebraic group. The Riemann--Hilbert correspondence produces a biholomorphism between the moduli space ${\mathcal M}_X(G)$ parametrizing holomorphic $G$--connections on $X$ and the $G$--character variety $${\mathcal R}(G):= \text{Hom}(π_1(X, x_0), G)/\!\!/G\, .$$ While ${\mathcal R}(G)$ is known to be affine, we show that ${\mathcal M}_X(G)$ is not affine. The scheme ${\mathcal R}(G)$ has an algebraic symplectic form constructed by Goldman. We construct an algebraic symplectic for…
In this paper we study the "holomorphic K-theory" of a projective variety, which is defined in terms of the homotopy type of spaces of holomorphic maps from the variety to Grassmannians and loop groups. This theory was introduced by Lawson, Lima-Filho and Michelsohn, and also by Friedlander and Walker, and a related theory was considered by Karoubi. Using the Chern character studied by the authors in a companion paper, we give a rational isomorphism between holomorphic $K$-theory and the "morphic cohomology" defined by Lawson and Friedlander. In doing so, we describe a geometric model for rati…
This paper is motivated by the real symplectic isotopy problem : does there exists a nonsingular real pseudoholomorphic curve not isotopic in the projective plane to any real algebraic curve of the same degree? Here, we focus our study on symmetric real curves on the projective plane. We give a classification of real schemes (resp. complex schemes) realizable by symmetric real curves of degree 7 with respect to the type of the curve (resp. M-symmetric real curves of degree 7). In particular, we exhibit two real schemes which are realizable by real symmetric dividing pseudoholomorphic curves of…
It is shown that every holomorphic map $f$ from a Runge domain $Ω$ of an affine algebraic variety $S$ into a projective algebraic manifold $X$ is a uniform limit of Nash algebraic maps $f_ν$ defined over an exhausting sequence of relatively compact open sets $Ω_ν$ in $Ω$. A relative version is also given: If there is an algebraic subvariety $A$ (not necessarily reduced) in $S$ such that the restriction of $f$ to $A\capΩ$ is algebraic, then $f_ν$ can be taken to coincide with $f$ on $A\capΩ_ν$. The main application of these results, when $Ω$ is the unit disk, is to show that the Kobayashi pseud…
Let X be a compact connected Riemann surface equipped with an anti-holomorphic involution σ. Let G be a connected complex reductive affine algebraic group, and let σ_G be a real form of G. We consider holomorphic principal G-bundles on X satisfying compatibility conditions with respect to σand σ_G. We prove that the points defined over $\mathbb R$ of the smooth locus of a moduli space of principal G-bundles on X are precisely these objects, under the assumption that {\rm genus}(X) > 2. Stable, semistable and polystable bundles are defined in this context. Relationship between any of these prop…
Let $X$ be an algebraic variety over $\mathbb{C}$. We say that $X$ is Borel hyperbolic if, for every finite type reduced scheme $S$ over $\mathbb{C}$, every holomorphic map $S^{an}\to X^{an}$ is algebraic. We use a transcendental specialization technique to prove that $X$ is Borel hyperbolic if and only if, for every smooth affine curve $C$ over $\mathbb{C}$, every holomorphic map $C^{an}\to X^{an}$ is algebraic. We use the latter result to prove that Borel hyperbolicity shares many common features with other notions of hyperbolicity such as Kobayashi hyperbolicity.
We describe a Lie Algebra on the moduli space of Calabi-Yau threefolds enhanced with differential forms and its relation to the Bershadsky-Cecotti-Ooguri-Vafa holomorphic anomaly equation. In particular, we describe algebraic topological string partition functions $F_g^{alg}, g\geq 1$, which encode the polynomial structure of holomorphic and non-holomorphic topological string partition functions. Our approach is based on Grothendieck's algebraic de Rham cohomology and on the algebraic Gauss-Manin connection. In this way, we recover a result of Yamaguchi-Yau and Alim-Länge in an algebraic conte…
